Bruce Willis’ wife shares emotional 17th anniversary post amid his dementia battle: ‘I’d do it all over again’

Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis opened up about her “unconditional love” for the actor as he battles frontotemporal dementia.

The 46-year-old model shared an emotional post on Instagram to mark the couple’s 17th anniversary.  The post featured a throwback photo of Willis, 61, and Emma beaming and holding each other as they posed while standing in the ocean as the sun set behind them. The image that she shared was taken at Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands, where the pair tied the knot in 2009.

“17 years of us,” Emma began her caption, adding a red heart emoji. “Anniversaries used to bring excitement — now, if I’m honest, they stir up all the feelings, leaving a heaviness in my heart and a pit in my stomach.”

She continued, “I give myself 30 minutes to sit in the ‘why him, why us,’ to feel the anger and grief. Then I shake it off and return to what is. And what is… is unconditional love. I feel blessed to know it, and it’s because of him. I’d do it all over again and again in a heartbeat.”

BRUCE WILLIS’ DAUGHTER TALLULAH GIVES UPDATE ON HIS ‘PAINFUL’ DEMENTIA BATTLE

In March 2022, Willis stepped away from Hollywood after being diagnosed with aphasia. His family announced in February 2023 that the actor’s aphasia had progressed to frontotemporal dementia

The “Die Hard” star and Emma first met in 2007 and went public with their romance in January 2008 when the “Perfect Stranger” actress accompanied Willis to the premiere of his movie “What Just Happened?” at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

In a December 2022 Instagram post, Emma shared a throwback video in which she and Willis were seen having fun in the snow during a winter vacation.

“It was that winter, 15 years ago I fell head [over] heels in love with him #loveofmylife,” Emma wrote in the caption.

In a December 2020 interview with People magazine, the pair reminisced about their first meeting.

“I’d do it all over again and again in a heartbeat.”

“When we first met, I was surprised at how charming and how funny he was – and extremely handsome,” the former Victoria’s Secret angel said. “That was my first thought of you.”

“I was already in love with her,” “The Sixth Sense” actor said.

They tied the knot on March 21, 2009 at their home in Turks and Caicos and married again six days later in Beverly Hills. The couple welcomed daughter Mabel in 2012 and daughter Evelyn in 2014.

On Dec. 22, Emma shared a glimpse into Willis’ life as a family man ahead of the holidays.

In a series of Instagram stories, Emma posted family photos of Willis spending time with Mabel and Evelyn.

Among the images was a black and white picture of Heming and Willis with their daughters, which she captioned, “Them. Always.”  In the photo, the couple are smiling as they lovingly look each other in the eyes, with Mabel and Evelyn sitting on their laps.

In addition to his two children with Heming, Willis also shares three adult daughters, Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30, with his ex-wife, Demi Moore. The former couple finalized their divorce in 2000. They have remained close friends and co-parents.

The blended family has celebrated holidays and vacationed together. Moore, Emma and their daughters with Willis have also put on a united front regarding Willis’ dementia battle.

In an interview with Town & Country in October, Heming shared that the early symptoms of his dementia were dismissed since he struggled with stuttering as a child.

“He had a severe stutter as a child,” she explained. “Bruce has always had a stutter, but he has been good at covering it up. As his language started changing, it [seemed like it] was just a part of a stutter, it was just Bruce.”

According to the National Institute on Aging, frontotemporal dementia occurs as a “result of damage to neurons in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain,” and the symptoms include “unusual behaviors, emotional problems, trouble communicating, difficulty with work, or difficulty with walking.”

At the 2024 Hamptons International Film Festival, Moore addressed her ex-husband’s health struggles.

“You know, I’ve said this before. The disease is what the disease is,” “The Substance” star told the crowd while accepting the career achievement in acting award, according to People magazine. “And I think you have to be in real deep acceptance of what that is. But for where he’s at, he is stable.”

She also shared insight into how she and the rest of the family have learned to work with his diagnosis in their interactions with him, explaining you have “to just meet them where they’re at,” because “when you’re holding on to what was, I think it’s a losing game.”

Fox News Digital’s Lori Bashian contributed to this report.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, shared a touching message on their 17th wedding anniversary amid his battle with dementia. The post included a throwback photo of the couple on their wedding day, with Emma expressing her love and support for her husband during this difficult time.

In the emotional caption, Emma wrote, “17 years ago today I married my best friend, my partner in crime, my rock. Through the good times and the bad, you have always been by my side. And now, as we face this new challenge together, I want you to know that I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.”

She went on to praise Bruce for his strength and resilience, and thanked him for all the love and support he has given her over the years. The post quickly garnered an outpouring of support from fans and friends, with many sending their well wishes and prayers to the couple during this difficult time.

Bruce Willis was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year, and his family has been open about his struggles with the disease. Despite the challenges they may face, Emma’s post serves as a reminder of the power of love and the importance of standing by your partner through thick and thin. Earlier this year, Emma, who shares two daughters, Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10, with the “Die Hard” actor, opened up about her decision to be transparent with their children regarding his diagnosis.

In an interview for the October issue of Town & Country Magazine, she explained why she “never tried to sugarcoat” the reality of Bruce’s illness from them.

“This disease is misdiagnosed, it’s missed, it’s misunderstood,” she shared. “So finally getting to a diagnosis was key so that I could learn what frontotemporal dementia is and I could educate our children.”

The “Red 2” actress emphasized her honest approach: “I’ve never tried to sugarcoat anything for them. They’ve grown up with Bruce declining over the years. I’m not trying to shield them from it.”

Reflecting on how the family navigates the journey of caring for Bruce amid his dementia struggle, Emma explained that it is essential to be honest with their kids.

“What I learned from our therapist [is] that if children ask questions, they’re ready to know the answer,” she told the Publication. “If we could see that Bruce was struggling, I would address it with the kids so they could understand, but this disease is chronic, progressive, and terminal.”

The actress admitted she chooses to focus on the present with their children, noting that she doesn’t “like to speak about the terminal side of this with them, nor have they asked.”

However, Emma noted that their young daughters “know that Daddy’s not going to get better.”

During an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in September, Moore, 62, provided an update on Bruce’s health, noting that “given the givens, he is in a stable place.”

Moore also shared how the advice she gives their daughters as they navigate their father’s diagnosis.

“What I say to my kids is you meet [him] where [he’s] at,” she explained. “You don’t hold on to who [who he was] or what you want [him] to be, but who [he is] in this moment.”

She added, “And from that, there is such beauty and joy and loving and sweetness. When I’m in LA, I go over every week, and I really treasure the time that we all share.”

In a recent Instagram post, Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, shared a heartfelt message on their anniversary that has left fans feeling emotional. In the post, Emma opened up about the “heaviness” in her heart and expressed her love and gratitude for her husband.

  • Panama celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Panama Canal handover as Trump wants to take it back

Panama celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Panama Canal handover as Trump wants to take it back

PANAMA CITY (AP) — Panama on Tuesday celebrated the 25th anniversary of the U.S. handover of the Panama Canal, which President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to take back.

The commemoration was made more poignant by the death on Sunday of former President Jimmy Carter, who negotiated the 1999 handover deal.

“On this, such a special day … a mix of happiness for this 25th anniversary of having the canal in Panamanian hands, and the sadness we feel for the death of former President Jimmy Carter,” said Panama’s president, José Raúl Mulino.

The ceremony included a moment of silence for Carter, who reached the handover deal with former Panamanian leader Omar Torrijos.

Speaking at the main anniversary celebration in Panama City, Mulino said the two men “had the vision and nobility to take the road of justice.”

Meanwhile, Trump is decrying increased fees Panama has imposed to use the waterway linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. He has said if things don’t change after he takes office in late January, “we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to the United States of America, in full, quickly and without question.”

Trump has asserted that a 1977 treaty “foolishly” gave the canal away. He hasn’t said how he might make good on his threat.

During Tuesday’s ceremony, Mulino did not refer specifically to Trump’s statements. He did, however, try to deflect accusations that China may have too much influence over the waterway.

“There are no hands involved in the canal other than Panama’s,” Mulino said. “Rest assured, it will be in our hands forever.”

The deal involved two treaties. One was for the handover. The other, which continues in perpetuity, gives the U.S. the right to act to ensure the canal remains open and secure. It gives the U.S. the right to act if the canal’s operation is threatened due to military conflict — but not to reassert control.

Jorge Luis Quijano, who served as the canal’s administrator from 2014 to 2019, has said that “there’s no clause of any kind in the neutrality agreement that allows for the taking back of the canal.”

“There’s very little wiggle room, absent a second U.S. invasion of Panama, to retake control of the Panama Canal in practical terms,” said Benjamin Gedan, director of the Latin America Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington.

Traffic on the canal increased 17% between fiscal years 1999 and 2004. Panama’s voters approved a 2006 referendum authorizing a major expansion of the canal to accommodate larger, modern cargo ships. The expansion took until 2016 and cost more than $5.2 billion.

Shipping prices have increased because of droughts last year affecting the canal locks, forcing Panama to drastically cut shipping traffic and raise usage rates. Though the rains have mostly returned, Panama has said future fee increases might be necessary as it undertakes improvements to accommodate modern shipping needs.

Canal administrator Ricaurte Vásquez has said the canal “has demonstrated that Panamanians are people who can face challenges” including the effects of climate change, world economic cycles and international conflicts.

Panama celebrated a momentous occasion today as it marked the 25th anniversary of the handover of the Panama Canal from the United States. The historic event, which took place on December 31, 1999, symbolized Panama’s sovereignty and control over one of the world’s most important waterways.

However, amidst the celebrations, there are concerns that the Panama Canal’s future could be at risk. President Donald Trump has recently expressed interest in taking back control of the canal, citing national security concerns and the need to protect American interests.

Panamanian officials have strongly rejected Trump’s claims, stating that the canal is vital to their country’s economy and infrastructure. They have emphasized that the canal is operated efficiently and transparently, benefiting not only Panama but also the global economy.

As Panama reflects on the past 25 years of independence, it remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the canal’s continued success and prosperity. The handover was a momentous occasion that marked a new chapter in Panama’s history, and the country is determined to protect its sovereignty and control over this vital waterway.

  • Y2K’s 25th Anniversary – SMERCONISH

    Y2K’s 25th Anniversary – SMERCONISH

A quarter century ago, the US Government led a global effort to prevent the failure of computers and the systems they depend upon. Much of the software running those computers and other equipment had been written in the 1980s and early 1990s and were dependent upon a date/time indicator, without which many of the programs simply stalled or shut down. Unfortunately, in these programs the code for the year was entered into a two-digit space and when the field was “00,” some software failed, and machines stopped. Thus, when December 31, 1999 (12.31.99) rolled over into January 1, 2000 (01.01.00), some things would not work.

When this phenomenon was described in the mid-1990s, it quickly became evident that few people knew whether the software on their networks would have that problem. The first step in a remediation process was creating an inventory of the software in use in operating systems, in applications, and, crucially, embedded in devices and even at chip level (firmware). Two things were evident in that inventorying process. First, we were now much more dependent upon software, for nearly everything, than we had realized. The preceding decade had seen a massive proliferation of computing. Second, few software users and even developers had kept meticulous records.

So, what devices might stop at the stroke of midnight? The theoretical list included elevators, heart-lung machines, fuel pumps, navigation systems, telephone switches, internet routers, ATMs, traffic lights, stock trading exchanges, etc. It was easy to imagine that New Years Day 2000 and the week that would follow could involve a certain amount of chaos and disruption.

Two people were key to organizing the American and global response, a disciplined management effort to prevent that chaos.

The first was a lawyer originally from Kentucky, John Koskinen. He had spent two decades in the private sector specializing in the turn-around of failing corporations. He had joined the Clinton Administration as Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget, the number three official in the White House’s powerful OMB.

What Koskinen understood was that preventing the potential chaos required two things everyone in the Executive Branch wanted and almost no one had: a lot of discretionary spending and mandatory powers, or put more simply, cash and clout. Having explained the problem to Clinton and Vice President Al Gore, Koskinen got the clout. Now he needed the cash. For that he needed a Congressional champion.

Robert Bennett, a Republican, was an unlikely champion, having just been elected to the Senate from Utah in 1992, he had no seniority. What he did have were almost forty years in the corporate world, from being an aide to the mercurial billionaire Howard Hughes, to marketing the Franklin Planner kits popular in the pre-laptop era. Bennett wanted an issue to make his mark in the Senate and, having talked with Koskinen, he convinced the Senate leadership to create a rare thing, a special ad hoc committee to address a problem, the one that was by then known as Y2K. No one else in the Senate appeared either to understand the issue or want anything to do with the possible failure of our infrastructure, so freshman Senator Bob Bennett became the Chair.

Bennett orchestrated public hearings, with Koskinen’s backstage direction, and appropriations flowed to fix government systems. Then private sector leaders from every industry were called upon to explain what they were doing to address the problem. Groups were formed for banking, transportation, health care, energy, and other key sectors. Companies reported on their plans and progress. Experts shared recommended best practices, back-up or fail over systems were created, data was archived, new software was procured in a great boon to the young Information Technology industry.

Then, they took their show on the road internationally, with Koskinen leading experts at the United Nations and in a series of bi-lateral groups including with Russia. Bennett contacted parliamentarians around the world to urge them into action in their countries. Computer science experts globally were sought to assist government and industry to understand, assess, and mitigate the problem. By mid-1999, a national and global system to deal with Y2K was operating well and reporting in metrics, as, one after another, major systems were remediated.

Because there was a concern that malevolent actors could use the occasion of Y2K to conduct criminal acts, including terrorism, or that nation states might take military advantage of potential chaos, I was asked to run a parallel national security component to Koskinen’s efforts. Together we built a first of its kind, state of the art, public-private command center two blocks from the White House. On the operations center floor were representatives of every major critical infrastructure and every government agency. In a vault just off the main room, an intelligence fusion center monitored indicators of potential trouble. (We did become aware of an al Qaeda plan to conduct several terrorist attacks around the millennium rollover and were able to prevent them, but we were not confident that we had uncovered them all and, therefore, had intelligence and law enforcement assets on global alert.)

January 1, 2000 came first to Asia Pacific. Although glitches were reported by our counterparts in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, no major systems crashed. As the hours rolled on, that pattern continued across EurAsia. Thus, by early evening of December 31st, my major remaining concern was terrorism. I talked to my FBI colleague John O’Neill who was with the NYPD in a heavily patrolled and very crowded Times Square. I checked with the National Military Command Center, the CIA Operations Center, and a half dozen other nerve centers, then took a half hour to make a quick drop by to one of the millions of parties that were getting rolling. It was a black-tie affair and looked like it would be rocking when the clock struck midnight a few hours later, but I hurried back to our operations room.

Following a concert broadcast nationwide, President Clinton spoke to the nation from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial as midnight approached. I led the National Security Council team to the roof of the command center building and there, at midnight and still in black tie, popped a bottle of champagne and watched the fireworks shooting up at the nearby Lincoln Memorial. Then the call came. National Security Advisor Sandy Berger said the President, who was standing next to him at the Lincoln Memorial, wanted to know if we had detected any problems. “I think we can safely tell the President we made it through ok.”

And we had, but not because there would not have been any problems, but because the US government took the risks seriously and organized effectively, demonstrating what good government, bi-partisanism, and a public-private partnership can do, mitigating and managing risks. Koskinen and Bennett knew, as did the National Security team, that if we were very successful at the Y2K computer problem (and the terrorism alert), we would be criticized for having “cried wolf” and exaggerated the problem.

As predicted, that criticism came. Chaos did not.

The Y2K bug, also known as the Millennium bug, was a computer coding issue that many feared would cause widespread chaos and system failures when the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2000. Now, 25 years later, we look back on the hysteria surrounding Y2K and how it ultimately turned out to be much ado about nothing.

In a recent segment on his SiriusXM radio show, Michael Smerconish reflected on the Y2K scare and how it captured the world’s attention in the months leading up to the new millennium. Smerconish noted that while there were legitimate concerns about the potential impact of the Y2K bug on critical infrastructure systems, much of the panic and fear surrounding the issue turned out to be unfounded.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of Y2K, it serves as a reminder of how quickly technology can evolve and the importance of taking proactive measures to address potential threats and vulnerabilities in our digital systems. While the Y2K bug may have been a false alarm, it was a wake-up call for businesses and governments to prioritize cybersecurity and invest in robust IT infrastructure.

So, as we reflect on the Y2K scare 25 years later, let’s use it as a reminder to stay vigilant and proactive in safeguarding our digital systems against future threats. And who knows, maybe in another 25 years we’ll look back on the fears of today and chuckle at how overblown they were.

  • Anthony Hopkins Reveals Why He Stopped Drinking on 49th Anniversary of Sobriety

Anthony Hopkins Reveals Why He Stopped Drinking on 49th Anniversary of Sobriety

Anthony Hopkins is celebrating a big day ahead of the new year. Well, two big days: his 87th birthday, on Dec. 31, and the anniversary of his sobriety. The legendary actor took to Instagram on Dec. 29 to mark the occasion, revealing that he’s been sober for 49 years and reflecting on what inspired him to quit drinking — and how it’s changed his life for the better.

“Happy 29th of December!” Hopkins said in the video. “Why 29th? Well, 49 years ago today, I stopped,” he went on, making a drinking gesture. The Oscar-winning actor admitted he was “having such fun” drinking, yet decided to stop due to two main reasons. “I realized I was in big, big trouble because i couldn’t remember anything,” he explained. “And I was driving a car drunk out of my skull.”

On that day in 1975, Hopkins also concluded that he couldn’t stop on his own. “I realized I needed help, so I got it,” he explained. “I phoned up a group of people like me, alcoholic, and that was it. Sober.”

The video continues a tradition for Hopkins, who for the past two years has publicly recognized his sobriety anniversary with an inspirational, uplifting end-of-year message. In 2022, he recalled being in a “desperate situation, despair, and probably not long to live. I just happened to acknowledge one day that there was something really wrong with me.”

The moment actually occurred in an Arizona hotel room, he revealed in a 2020 New York Times interview, when he woke up with no memory of how he got there. “I thought, ‘Well, I’ve got to stop this because I’m either going to kill somebody or myself,’” Hopkins said in the interview. “My life, from that moment on, took on new meaning.”

With his yearly anniversary videos, Hopkins seeks to inspire others to be kind to themselves and seek help when they need it — whether it’s for addiction or another issue. “If you do have a problem — having fun is wonderful, having a drink is fine — but if you are having a problem with the booze, there is help,” Hopkins said. “… Phone any intergroup, 12-step program, whatever you could do, because it is a killer.” With New Year’s festivities and then dry January right around the corner, it’s as timely a message as ever. And while sobriety has felt a little like a wellness trend over the last few years, it’s also worth remembering that it’s a difficult and life-changing decision for many people.

For Hopkins part, he said that being sober has helped him lead a happier and “unexpectedly long life” as he prepares to celebrate his 87th birthday. Plus, he added, the good times didn’t stop just because he quit drinking. “I’ve had more fun these 49 years than ever,” Hopkins said. “… I got sober, and it sounds a dull word, but I’ve had a wonderful life.”
