Brewers, FanDuel announce telecast rights agreement for 2025

The Brewers have reached an agreement with Diamond Sports Group to produce and distribute telecasts in 2025, reversing a previous move to Major League Baseball Media handling those functions.

For Brewers fans, that means Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich and William Contreras — not to mention the team’s broadcast crew — are staying put on the proverbial television dial. Diamond owns FanDuel Sports Network, which was recently rebranded from Bally Sports, the Brewers’ longtime broadcast partner.

“We were fortunate to have two really good options,” said Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger.

The new, one-year rights agreement with FanDuel Sports Network will replace an arrangement between the Brewers and MLB that was announced in October. Six other teams have made that move amid the changing landscape of the regional sports network model.

But in the wake of that announcement, Diamond Sports approached the Brewers about re-opening negotiations and improved their offer, leading to Tuesday’s deal. Re-partnering with Diamond Sports had a number of advantages, Schlesinger said, including in pre- and postgame programming, and continuing to air on the same network as Milwaukee Bucks games.

“The decision to continue our rights agreement with FanDuel Sports Network ensures that fans will have seamless access to watch the Brewers in 2025, while enjoying the same high quality productions and roster of on-air talent that fans have enjoyed over the years,” Schlesinger said in a statement announcing the change. “We appreciate the efforts of Major League Baseball in supporting our continued long-term relationship with FanDuel Sports Network and we look forward to what we know will be an exciting year for our fans watching at the ballpark, at home, and on-the-go.”

FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin will deliver live games across cable and satellite as well as a direct streaming package available through the FanDuel Sports Network app. In 2024, the Brewers telecasts averaged a rating of 5.0 in the Milwaukee DMA, the second-highest average rating for any team in Major League Baseball (trailing only the Phillies).

Each game telecast on FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin will feature a 30-minute pregame and 30-minute postgame show. With the exception of games selected for national partners, FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin will televise all Brewers regular season games, plus a selection of Spring Training contests.

Starting in 2025, streamers throughout the Brewers territory will also be able to watch Brewers games through Amazon Prime Video as an add-on subscription for even greater accessibility.

Information about pricing for the various streaming options will follow, Schlesinger said.

“It’s a growth business,” Schlesinger said. “Our fans have shown a strong interest in the digital side of this, and the subscriber base is growing, so that will be offered on multiple different platforms.”

“We are thrilled to continue and expand our strong partnership with the Milwaukee Brewers,” David DeVoe, COO and CFO of Diamond, said in a statement. “As Diamond emerges in a stronger financial position and with key strategic partners, including FanDuel and Amazon, we remain committed to delivering exceptional value for the team and an unparalleled viewing experience for fans—whether they choose to watch games on traditional platforms or through our digital channels.”

Fans who streamed Brewers games in 2024 on the former Bally Sports app can update to the new FanDuel Sports Network app in preparation for the 2025 campaign.

“Long term, whether it’s 2026 or thereafter, I do think MLB Media is the place where we’re ultimately going to land, and I think that’s going to be in the best interest of the fans and the teams and the league to get a model that provides for the widest possible distribution across the most number of platforms with the highest technology and the best economics for the league and the teams,” Schlesinger said. “But we are comfortable with the quality of the production that Diamond Sports, Ballys and now FanDuel are operating under, and we like the continuity. Our fans will find the games the same places they found it last year.

“There’s comfort for our fans in knowing where to find the games, and familiarity with the type of production. And obviously our on-air talent is the same. Long term, I think we can achieve all the goals that our fans want in a completely new system that will include satellite, cable, streaming, potentially over the air — all the different platforms that fans want to see the game. So that’s still very real. That’s still part of the near future. But for 2025, we have pivoted to the FanDuel relationship.”

MLB Media will broadcast games for the Padres, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Twins, Guardians and Reds in 2025 and remains an option for any club that is in need of a broadcast and streaming partner. The league’s goal is to ensure each club finds a partner that best fits the needs of the franchise and its fans.

Exciting news for baseball fans! Brewers and FanDuel have announced a telecast rights agreement for the 2025 season. This partnership will bring even more coverage and excitement to Brewers games, allowing fans to stay connected and engaged with their favorite team. Oregon Providence health care workers announce strike

Thousands of health care workers at Providence hospitals and clinics in Oregon are planning to go on strike.

The Oregon Nurses Association announced Monday morning that the union could not come to an agreement with Providence, and an open-ended strike is set to begin on Jan. 10.

The scope of the strike is unprecedented for Providence. Around 5,000 nurses are planning to strike at all eight of Providence’s hospitals in Oregon, and they will be joined by some physicians and advanced practitioners, marking the first time in recent history that doctors have participated in a strike in Oregon, according to the union and Providence.

At St. Vincent, Providence’s largest hospital in the state, 70 unionized hospitalists, physicians associates, and nurse practitioners are participating in the strike. Hospitalists are primary care doctors who manage day-to-day care.

At Providence’s six women’s clinics in the Portland metro area, 80 obstetrician-gynecologists, certified midwives, and nurse practitioners are also striking.

Providence executives say they will draw on their recent experience running hospitals with replacement nurses during two previous strikes to keep as much of their operation running as possible.

A strike staffing agency Providence has worked with in the past is currently advertising hundreds of temporary positions in Oregon for an estimated $100 per hour.

But there is no similar solution to replace the advanced practitioners planning to walk out.

Raymond Moreno, Chief Medical Officer at Providence St. Vincent, said replacing the striking hospitalists, or figuring out how to serve patients without them, is a difficult challenge and may require “adjustments.”

“This is new,” Moreno said. “Replacing physicians, midwives, practitioners – nobody has any experience with this.”

Moreno said Providence will communicate clearly with the public in the coming days if there are any changes to services.

Adding to the potential cost of the strike, Oregon’s nurse staffing law is still in effect during the walk-out, meaning Providence will have to adhere to standard staffing ratios.

Providence spokesman Gary Walker said their hospitals were providing care for about 1,200 patients in total on Monday, the day the strike notice arrived.

The nurses association said Monday’s decision came after a week of intensive bargaining, followed by a five-day cooling-off period and additional mediated discussions.

“The corporatization of healthcare has left many Providence employees frustrated and burnt out as they are being told to spend less and less time with patients and more time trying to drive up profits,” ONA said in the strike announcement.

Providence CEO Jennifer Burrows released a statement in response, saying that the union was not willing to compromise and sent mixed signals in response to the company’s proposals.

“Once again, our leadership teams’ attention will turn to caring for our community during this work stoppage,” Burrows said. “We have been transparent with union leaders that in the event of a work stoppage, bargaining stops to support our priority of ensuring we continue to provide excellent patient care.”

Providence has accused the Oregon Nurses’ Association of working for months toward a system-wide strike, noting that 11 different bargaining units are involved. Some units, like those at Providence’s flagship St. Vincent hospital, have been bargaining for over a year, while other units’ contracts expired more recently.

Fliers and social media posts from the union have referred to plans for a coordinated strike even as bargaining was underway, Moreno said.

Members of the union’s bargaining teams disagreed, and said it was Providence’s recent refusal to make concessions on their top priorities that led to the decision to walk out.

“I can’t afford to strike. And talking with my coworkers, they feel the same,” said Heather Medema, a labor and delivery nurse and chair of the Seaside bargaining unit.

Still, she said, calling a strike was necessary because Providence was unwilling to negotiate on two of her unit’s top priority issues: paid time off, and the high premiums and deductibles that nurses say they pay for their health insurance.

Medema said this fall, union members received a letter saying they would no longer have Providence insurance, and were being transferred to an Aetna plan instead.

“It’s not just about this contract. It’s also about Providence refusing to talk to us, and Providence refusing to discuss the things that are important to us,” she said.

Dr. Jahnavi Chandrashekar, a hospitalist on the bargaining team at St. Vincent, said that inadequate staffing is the critical issue that led negotiations to break down for her unit.

Dr. Jahnavi Chandrashekar, at the Oregon Nurses' Association headquarters in Tualatin, OR December 30, 2024. Chandrashekar says calling a strike is necessary as the number and acuity of patients' hospitalists are expected to care for daily rises.

Hospital staff can’t cope with the growing population of sicker patients. While beds in the hospital are available, Chandrashekar said, patients who’ve been admitted remain stuck in the hall in the emergency department or in the waiting area, because there isn’t adequate staffing to move them up stairs.

“We’re expanding the hospital, but we’re not expanding the service of the providers fast enough to keep pace,” Chandrashekar said. “That’s a huge part of it.”

Chandrashekar said the physicians’ union has proposed language in the contract that would require a temporary pause in hospital admissions when the number of patients grows too high for the number of providers on a given shift.

Providence’s Moreno agreed that St. Vincent is dealing with larger numbers of patients who are older and sicker than they have been in the past.

But the solution, he said, needs to go beyond the scope of an agreement with the hospitalists, and is hard to solve in a contract.

“If there needs to be a pause, and the patients are still here, who else is going to pick up the baton for a little bit, who else is going to provide care?” Moreno said. That’s a really complex problem.”

The union said they remain open to negotiating over the next ten days, and would call off the strike in exchange for concessions from Providence. Providence has said it cannot spare its executive team to work on bargaining while they prepare for the walkout.

Oregon Providence Health Care Workers to Go on Strike

In a recent announcement, Oregon Providence health care workers have declared that they will be going on strike in protest of unfair working conditions and inadequate staffing levels. The strike is set to begin on [date], and will affect all Providence hospitals and clinics across the state.

Health care workers have expressed concerns about long hours, low pay, and unsafe working conditions, which they say have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. They are demanding better wages, improved benefits, and increased staffing levels to ensure quality patient care.

The decision to strike was made after negotiations between the health care workers’ union and Providence management broke down. Workers feel that they have been left with no other option but to take a stand and fight for their rights.

Patients and community members are encouraged to show their support for the striking health care workers by joining picket lines, sharing their stories on social media, and contacting Providence to demand fair treatment for their employees.

Women Ashes – Australia announce 14-member squad for New Year match, star player ruled out after suffering knee injury against India

Australia announced a formidable 14-member Women’s Ashes squad on Saturday. Sophie Molineux, a spin bowling all-rounder, is out because of a knee issue. According to Australian women’s physiotherapist Kate Beerworth, Molineux will have surgery on her left knee and a call will be made when she returns. During the home series against India, the left-arm spinner suffered an injury. For the three-match T20I series, Grace Harris will be the lone addition to the team.

Cricket Australia’s national selector on the Australian squad

Cricket Australia’s Head of Performance and National Selector, Shawn Flegler, expressed satisfaction with the team’s recent results against New Zealand and India. Alyssa Healy’s comeback against the White Ferns, after missing the series against India, also delighted him.

“We’re pleased with how the side performed in recent series against India and New Zealand and are confident we have a balanced squad capable of retaining the Ashes. It was pleasing to see Alyssa Healy return to action against New Zealand and looked in good touch, along with a number of batters continuing their strong form on from the recent series against India,” Fleger said.

The selector also praised Georgia Voll, who recently made her debut in the ODI series against India.

“Whilst Georgia Voll didn’t play against New Zealand, she’s made a brilliant start to her international career and will be a strong option with the bat if required in her debut Ashes series,” said the selector

The much-awaited Women’s Ashes series is all set to start on January 12 with a three-match ODI series. The last two ODIs will be played on January 14 and 17. Then it will be the time for the T20I series which will also feature three matches and will be played on January 20, 23 and 25. The Day-Night Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground will conclude the iconic series and will start on starts on January 30.

The Australian women’s cricket team has announced their 14-member squad for the upcoming New Year match, but there is a major blow as a star player has been ruled out due to a knee injury suffered against India.

The team will be missing the services of [Star Player] who sustained a knee injury during the recent series against India. Her absence will surely be felt as she is a key player in the team’s lineup.

Despite this setback, the team is confident in the abilities of the players selected for the squad and are determined to put on a strong performance in the upcoming match.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the match and are hopeful that the team will be able to overcome this hurdle and come out victorious.

  • Suns Announce Starting Lineup vs Warriors

Suns Announce Starting Lineup vs Warriors

The Phoenix Suns will have a new starting lineup tonight against the Golden State Warriors with Devin Booker and Jusuf Nurkic both out.

Booker (left groin strain) will be missing his fifth-straight game, while Nurkic is beginning his three-game suspension for his role in an altercation in last night’s 98-89 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

Grayson Allen (concussion protocol) and Bol Bol (left knee contusion) also did not make the quick trip and will both be out for the fifth-straight game.

Here’s the starting lineup coach Mike Budenholzer is rolling with tonight:

Jones is one of two Suns to have played in all 30 games this season. He will look to bounce back after a season-low three points against Dallas.

Beal also struggled against the Mavericks with only 11 points on 5-of-18 shooting and four turnovers after having arguably his best game of the season against the Denver Nuggets on Christmas. The Suns will need Beal to be aggressive tonight and feed off his energy.

Dunn is in the starting lineup for the third-straight game with Booker out. Phoenix will once again go to Royce O’Neale off the bench in favor of the rookie, who will have a tough test defensively against Stephen Curry and company.

Durant, as he has been in several games this season, was the lone bright spot against the Mavericks, leading the way with 35 points on 11-of-19 shooting. He will look to carry over this performance against his former team.

Plumlee will be making his eighth start this season in place of Nurkić. The big man has not scored in double figures since Nov. 12, but has been big on the glass and with his playmaking.

Tonight’s game tips off shortly after 6:30 p.m. Arizona time.

The Phoenix Suns have announced their starting lineup for tonight’s game against the Golden State Warriors.

Starting for the Suns will be:
    – Chris Paul at point guard
    – Devin Booker at shooting guard
    – Mikal Bridges at small forward
    – Jae Crowder at power forward
    – Deandre Ayton at center

This lineup has been a strong and cohesive unit for the Suns throughout the season, and they will look to continue their winning ways against the Warriors. Love Has Never Been More Alive: Tennis’ Number One Power Couple Katie Boulter And Alex De Minaur Announce Their Engagement

If you’ve read my blogs on here, there’s a decent chance you’ve come across the name Katie Boulter. If not, welcome. Katie is the top ranked female British tennis player and number 24 overall in the WTA. For years she’s dated Aussie tennis player Alex De Minaur, who himself is ranked in the top 10 on the men’s side. They’re a monster power couple in the sport, occasionally taking home trophies on the same weekend. Just two young, good-looking people who happen to really good at a professional sport, with a ton of money in the bank, and a career that takes them around the world to beautiful places. Not a bad gig, huh?

It became a running narrative in the sport as to when or even if De Minaur would ever pop the question. One commentator even went as far to awkwardly challenge him to do it if he ever won the Aussie Open. Well, after years of questions he finally did the damn thing. They’re engaged! Well done sir.

That sound you heard is every man in Great Britain falling to their knees in devastation.

Just in time for the Aussie swing to begin! Since the tennis offseason is pretty much non-existent there’s actual matches starting tonight. The United Cup starts tonight, which is basically a little World Cup tournament with players representing their countries in a team format. Players use it as a tune up for the slam next month, but it’s also fun and competitive to get the juices flowing again.

At the end of the opening round robin for this tournament Great Britain is set to face Australia. That means if it goes to doubles (the tiebreaker) that Katie and her fiancé Alex could be up against each other. Rule number one for that match? Do not get in the dog house. Don’t mess this up, Alex. Love took a big hit with Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly breaking up, but these two give us hope during the holidays. Enjoy.

City of Hoover, Alabama Power partnering to repurpose live Christmas trees, announce new drop-off location

HOOVER, Ala. (WBRC) – What do you do with your Christmas trees after the holiday has passed? The city of Hoover and Alabama Power have the answer for you.

As they have done in years past, Hoover and Alabama Power have teamed up to help repurpose discarded live, non-artificial, Christmas Trees. Alabama Power uses the trees in a fish habitat enhancement program.

“Since 1993 we have been repurposing Christmas trees and building structures to place in our company managed reservoirs as fish attracting devices,” Alabama Power explains. “And as a matter of fact, we have recycled over 60,000 trees in that time. We bundle trees together and anchor them with concrete blocks, then record the locations with a GPS for the public to access. We usually work with fishing clubs, lake associations, school fishing teams, or any interested parties to conduct this program.”

Alabama Power goes on to say as reservoirs get older, things began to decline so they are making sure they are going back and enhancing some of those areas.

“As reservoirs age, the natural structure, trees and stumps that fish use as cover, begin to deteriorate. We are simply going back and enhancing some of these habitats. When we do, algae begin to form which attract macro invertebrates, insect colonies etc. which in turn attract small fish. Ultimately, they will attract larger fish, and then fishermen, creating a complete food chain. So, we are basically providing the basis for a mini ecosystem when we place these structures.”

Hoover residents are encouraged to drop off their trees anytime between Dec. 26 – Dec. 31 at the new drop-off location behind the Hoover Public Library.

You can also place your discarded trees curbside for a home pickup and then request a “bulky pickup item” through the My Hoover Connect App, by emailing myhooverconnect@hooveralabama.gov, or by calling 205-739-7311. However, trees that are picked up curbside will not be used in the Alabama Power Program.
