  • Ninja Gaiden 4 announced at Xbox Developer Direct showcase

As promised, Microsoft unveiled a new, unannounced game during its Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday: Team Ninja’s Ninja Gaiden is back with a new mainline entry, a revival of a franchise that’s been dormant since 2012’s Ninja Gaiden 3. In a surprise reveal, Ninja Gaiden 4 is being co-developed by Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, developer of the Bayonetta franchise and Nier: Automata.

Ninja Gaiden 4 will be released in fall 2025 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, and it’ll be available through Game Pass.

The game will be set after the events of Ninja Gaiden 3 in a largely abandoned Tokyo that has been overwhelmed by demons and other servants of the Dark Dragon. Players will once again assume the role of master ninja Ryu Hayabusa, in addition to a second, new protagonist: Yakumo, a new master ninja and a member of the rival Raven clan.

Yakumo will employ two play styles: the Raven style and the Nué style, the latter of which will let the ninja take on multiple enemies at once using far-reaching attacks. Developers from Team Ninja and PlatinumGames say that classic Ninja Gaiden moves and combat will be part of the game as well, so get ready to Inazuma Drop fools over and over again.

Despite the new protagonist and speedy new play style, developers said that Ninja Gaiden 4 will preserve the dark, hardcore atmosphere of the series.

That’s not the only Ninja Gaiden-related announcement Team Ninja had to share during Thursday’s Xbox Developer Direct, however. The studio also stealth-dropped Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a new version of Ninja Gaiden 2 that offers a massive visual upgrade of the original 2008 Xbox 360 game, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. In addition to protagonist Ryu Hayabusa, the Black re-release lets players battle as Ayane, Momiji, and Rachel.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is available now on PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

In an exciting announcement at the Xbox Developer Direct showcase, it was revealed that the highly anticipated Ninja Gaiden 4 is in development! Fans of the beloved action-adventure series can look forward to another thrilling installment filled with intense combat, challenging enemies, and a gripping storyline.

The Ninja Gaiden franchise has a long history of delivering fast-paced gameplay and stunning visuals, and Ninja Gaiden 4 promises to continue that tradition. With advanced graphics and gameplay mechanics, players can expect an immersive experience that will push their ninja skills to the limit.

Stay tuned for more updates and details on Ninja Gaiden 4 as development progresses. In the meantime, get ready to unleash your inner ninja and prepare for the ultimate battle in this exciting new chapter of the series. Ninja Gaiden 4 is sure to be a must-have title for fans of action games and ninja enthusiasts alike!

  • Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Announced — and It’s Out Now

As well as announcing Ninja Gaiden 4, Koei Tecmo has announced a remake of 2008 action game Ninja Gaiden 2 — and it’s out now.

Announced during Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Directo 2025, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black shadow-dropped across console, PC, and Xbox Game Pass today, January 23.

In a post on Xbox Wire, Team Ninja boss Fumihiko Yasuda explained the decision to remaster Ninja Gaiden 2.

“This simultaneous announcement and same-day release alongside Ninja Gaiden 4 might have caught some people by surprise,” he said. “The biggest reason for developing Ninja Gaiden 2 Black was to address the concerns of core fans who might be wondering, ‘What’s going to happen to Ryu Hayabusa?’ We also wanted to give players something to enjoy as they wait for the release of Ninja Gaiden 4. We chose Ninja Gaiden 2 because it stands as one of the most solid action games in the series. We added ‘Black’ to the title to signal to fans that this is the definitive version, much like Ninja Gaiden Black was for the first game.”

Team Ninja’s infamously challenging Ninja Gaiden series has a long association with Xbox. The developer’s reboot of the action series launched first on Xbox in 2004, propelling master ninja Ryu Hayabusa into the mainstream. Ninja Gaiden Black, considered one of the greatest action games of all time, launched the following year.

Ninja Gaiden 2 came out in 2008 published by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox 360. Ninja Gaiden 3 followed in 2012 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since then, fans have had the critically panned spin-off Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, and, more recently, Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection, a compilation of Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge.

Publisher Koei Tecmo revived interest in Ninja Gaiden with the announcement of Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, a brand-new side-scrolling spin-off due out later this year. But the main event is Ninja Gaiden 4, which finally continues Ryu Hayabusa’s story 13 years after Ninja Gaiden 3 came out.

  • Elon Musk bashes the $500 billion AI project Trump announced, claiming its backers don’t ‘have the money’

    CNN
     —

Shortly after President Donald Trump announced a new massive AI infrastructure investment from the White House, “First Buddy” Elon Musk tried to tear it down.

“They don’t actually have the money,” Musk wrote on his social media platform X. “SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority.”

Trump said the investment will create a new company, called Stargate, to grow artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States. The leaders of SoftBank, OpenAI and Oracle stood alongside Trump during the announcement. Their respective companies will invest $100 billion in total for the project to start, with plans to pour up to $500 billion into Stargate in the coming years.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, accompanied by President Donald Trump, Oracle CTO Larry Ellison (R), and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son (2nd-R), at the announcement of an investment in AI infrastructure.

The comments are a notable takedown of a major White House project from someone that is in Trump’s innermost circle. As a sign of how involved Musk is in the first days of the administration, Musk said he was in the Oval Office on Tuesday as Trump signed a pardon for Ross William Ulbricht, founder of the dark web marketplace SilkRoad. Musk had also dispatched a top staffer from his SpaceX and X companies to help ensure the release of convicted January 6 rioters after Trump signed a blanket pardon.

But perhaps it should not be a surprise that Musk is going after an OpenAI initiative. Musk is in an ongoing lawsuit with OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, who was at the White House for the announcement. Musk, who has said he “doesn’t trust” Altman, claims in the lawsuit the ChatGPT has abandoned its original nonprofit mission by reserving some of its most advanced AI technology for private customers.

The companies involved in Stargate have not publicly disclosed how they will contribute the funds, but they don’t necessarily need the money in the bank to support it — they could raise debt or sign on other equity investors.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday rebuffed Musk’s comments, saying in a Fox News interview, “the American people should take President Trump and those CEOs’ words for it.”

“President Trump is very excited about this infrastructure announcement in the field of AI, which is obviously growing, and something the United States of America needs to capitalize on, because our adversaries, such as China, are very advanced in this field,” Leavitt said. “So, the American people should take President Trump and those CEOs’ words for it -– these investments are coming to our great country, and American jobs are coming along with them.”

Altman replied directly to Musk’s claim on X, writing “wrong, as you surely know. want to come visit the first site already under way? this is great for the country. i realize what is great for the country isn’t always what’s optimal for your companies, but in your new role i hope you’ll mostly put (America) first.”

A source familiar with Stargate said Musk’s assertion is not true.

Softbank, the source pointed out, has $24.3 billion of cash on its balance sheet per its latest earnings and that it is comfortable taking on more debt to help fund the project, the wherewithal to access more capital.

The source pointed out that MGX has $100 billion in capital commitments, Oracle has $11 billion in cash on its balance sheet and OpenAI recently announced it has more than $10 billion from its recent round of venture capital.

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, which is working with OpenAI on Stargate, said on CNBC Wednesday “all I know is I’m good for my $80 billion.”

DJ Judd contributed to this report.

Elon Musk recently criticized the $500 billion AI project announced by President Trump, stating that the backers of the project don’t “have the money” to successfully execute such a massive endeavor. Musk, who is known for his skepticism about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence, expressed concerns about the feasibility and funding of the ambitious project.

In a series of tweets, Musk questioned the financial capabilities of the project’s backers, suggesting that they may not have the resources necessary to support such a large-scale initiative. He also raised doubts about the practicality of the project, warning that it could potentially lead to unforeseen consequences if not carefully managed.

Musk’s comments have sparked a debate within the tech community about the viability of President Trump’s AI project and the potential risks associated with investing in such advanced technologies. While some experts have expressed support for the project, others have echoed Musk’s concerns about the financial and logistical challenges that could arise.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether President Trump’s $500 billion AI project will move forward as planned or face additional scrutiny from critics like Elon Musk.

  • Winners announced for school district’s ‘Phones Away and Learn Today’ PSA contest

The Washoe County School Board of Trustees on Tuesday discussed the “Phones Away and Learn Today” district-wide pilot program which is officially underway, including the winners of the campaign’s PSA contest.

During the update, Trustee Coleen Westlake asked the presenters to address emergency phone usage for parents who feel anxious about the new program. She said she had seen several emails from parents concerned they wouldn’t be able to contact their students in an emergency.

    WCSD Police Chief Tracy Moore

School Police Chief Tracy Moore said students will not be denied communication with parents when it is safe to do so, and he understands the desire to be in contact with students during an emergency. He said even he uses an app to communicate with his children in such situations.

He said school police, administrators and the communications department work closely to send information to parents “as quickly as we can and as informative as we can during an emergency.”

He said this way, parents receive information from law enforcement and on-site administrators who have accurate updates for families. “When it’s safe to do so, we want to send that message to the parents in our community,” Moore said.

As part of the pilot program, students were asked to submit public service announcements (PSAs) in the form of posters, videos or similar artwork.

The district received several contributions, and five projects were selected.

    • Isabella Buscunan Fernandez of Incline Middle School was selected for her video submission.
    • Gavin Cates, Jack Egan, Arek Engelke, Sonia Gustavson and Gio Whittey of AACT were selected for their video submission.
    • Madeline Fisher of Wooster High School was selected for her bilingual informational poster submission.
    • Sophia Anderson of Spanish Springs High School was selected for her graphic poster submission.
    • Liepa Etchegoyhen, Colin Pilcher, Bebe Slater and Sophia Valdez of Reno High School were selected for their video submission.

    Each can be viewed here.

All winners received a $25 gift card to Scheels, and their PSAs have already been circulating on-site at schools, as well as on district websites and social media. Smith commended district leadership and Superintendent Joe Ernst for seeking student input on the PSAs.

“When we’re doing it together, we’re going to make progress,” Superintendent Joe Ernst said.

We are thrilled to announce the winners of our school district’s ‘Phones Away and Learn Today’ PSA contest!

After receiving numerous creative and impactful submissions from students across the district, our panel of judges had the difficult task of selecting the top entries. Each PSA focused on the importance of minimizing distractions and staying focused on learning by putting away phones and other electronic devices during school hours.

Without further ado, the winners are:

1st Place: Amelia Smith, 10th grade
2nd Place: David Nguyen, 11th grade
3rd Place: Maya Patel, 9th grade

Congratulations to all the winners! Your hard work and dedication to spreading this important message is truly commendable.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to all the students who participated in the contest. Your creativity and passion for promoting a positive learning environment did not go unnoticed.

Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative and helped make it a success. Together, we can continue to encourage a culture of focus and productivity in our schools.

Stay tuned for updates on how these winning PSAs will be shared throughout the district to inspire others to put their phones away and learn today!

  • All the performers announced for Donald Trump’s inauguration, plus a ‘special guest’

Donald Trump is set to be sworn in for his second term as president of the United States on Monday, Jan. 20.

The Trump Vance Inaugural Committee called the lineup of inaugural events a “historic return to the White House and the American people’s decisive vote to Make America Great Again” in a statement released Jan. 13.

“These special events will honor the rich history and tradition of our great nation, the American people, and the promise our country holds for future generations,” Steve Witkoff and Kelly Loeffler, co-chairs of the committee, said in the statement.

Multiple performers will take the stage during the 60th presidential inauguration and the events surrounding Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.

Country singer Carrie Underwood confirmed to TODAY.com that she will perform at the president-elect’s inauguration ceremony.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

The Trump Vance Inaugural Committee revealed in a release Jan. 15 that Underwood will be performing “America the Beautiful.”

Lee Greenwood, known for his song “God Bless the U.S.A.,” is set to take the stage at the swearing-in.

“I am humbled and honored to be asked to perform for our 47th President Donald J. Trump during his inaugural events,” Greenwood said in a statement shared with TODAY.com.

“The President has been a friend of Kim and I’s for many years and this is one of the most historical moments in our lifetime. I look forward to celebrating this special day with proud Americans everywhere,” he continued, referring to his wife, Kimberly Payne.

Classical singer Christopher Macchio is scheduled to sing the national anthem at the inauguration, the singer announced Jan. 13.

“It is with deep humility and gratitude that I have accepted @realDonaldTrump President Donald J. Trump’s gracious invitation to perform our National Anthem at the Inauguration of our 47th President,” he shared on X on Jan. 13.

He continued, “In opening and closing this magnificent ceremony with music that celebrates our nation, I hope to contribute to restoring the spirit of unity, strength, and love of country, that will help Make America Great Again.”

Country singer Jason Aldean is slated to perform at the Liberty Ball, one of three balls held for the incoming president the night of the inauguration. Trump is expected to speak at all three.

Aldean and Trump have had a public friendship since at least 2022, when the “Dirt Road Anthem” singer attended a New Year’s Eve party at Trump’s Florida home, per a photo he shared on Instagram.

He also introduced Trump at a rally in Georgia, Aldean’s home state, in October 2024.

The Village People will perform at the inauguration, lead singer Victor Willis announced on Facebook Jan. 13.

“We are announcing today that VILLAGE PEOPLE have accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump’s campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President Elect Trump,” Willis wrote, sharing a photo of the group. “We know this wont (sic) make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics.”

He continued, “Our song ‘Y.M.C.A.’ is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost. Therefore, we believe it’s now time to bring the country together with music which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump.”

Trump often used “Y.M.C.A.” at events for his presidential campaigns. In December 2024, Willis shared on social media that he had received over 1,000 complaints about Trump’s usage of the song.

Willis said he previously asked Trump to stop using the song because it had become such a “nuisance” to him. He noted, however, that the campaign obtained a political use license to play the song.

Rascal Flatts will hit the stage at Commander in Chief Ball, the first inaugural ball of the evening, the inauguration committee announced.

The musical group, who sings hits like “Life is a Highway” and “Bless the Broken Road,” is comprised of lead vocalist Gary LeVox, guitarist Joe Don Rooney and pianist Jay DeMarcus.

“I am so humbled and honored and grateful for the opportunity again to play the inauguration of the 46th President of the United States,” LeVox wrote on Instagram.

The “Like a Cowboy” singer hasn’t been shy about sharing his political views online. In January 2022, McCollum shared a post on X containing pictures of a Trump rally in Texas.

“Donald Trump in Conroe, TX bra… never thought I’d see the day,” he wrote at the time.

The Trump Vance Inaugural Committee confirmed Jan. 18 that rapper Nelly is the “special guest performer” at the Liberty Ball Monday.

While appearing on the “Willie D Live” podcast Jan. 18, Nelly told host Willie D that he’s performing for “the office” of the President of the United States, adding that he views “candidate Trump” and “President Trump” as two separate people.

“I’m not a politician man, you didn’t see me out there on the campaign. You didn’t see me out there saying you should vote for this candidate. You didn’t see me out there saying you should vote for this candidate,” Nelly told Willie D, in part. “But I’m honored to be out there performing for the office, for the President of the United States.”

    The Village People

The inauguration committee confirmed Wednesday that, in addition to the inauguration ceremony, The Village People will also be performing at the Make America Great Again rally Jan. 19.

Billy Ray Cyrus has joined the lineup and is scheduled to perform during the Jan. 19 MAGA rally.

Cyrus has previously been open about his support of Trump, sharing a photo on Facebook in August 2024 flashing a thumps up beside the former president.

“I stand here with former U.S. President Donald J. Trump as a proud AMERICAN,” he wrote in part.

Greenwood is also slated to take the stage at the MAGA rally Jan. 19, in addition to his performance during the swearing-in ceremony Jan. 20.

    Liberty University’s Praise Choir

The Praise Choir at Liberty University, a Christian college located in central Virginia, is scheduled to perform at the MAGA rally.

As the countdown to Donald Trump’s inauguration continues, the list of performers set to take the stage is growing. From country stars to pop sensations, the lineup is sure to be diverse and entertaining.

So far, confirmed performers include country singers Toby Keith and Lee Greenwood, rock band 3 Doors Down, and the Radio City Rockettes. Additionally, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Missouri State University Chorale will lend their voices to the event.

But perhaps the most intriguing addition to the lineup is a ‘special guest’ who has yet to be announced. Speculation is running rampant as to who this mystery performer could be, with names like Kanye West and Taylor Swift being thrown around.

Regardless of who takes the stage, one thing is for certain – Donald Trump’s inauguration is shaping up to be a star-studded affair. Stay tuned for more updates on the performers and ‘special guest’ as January 20th draws closer.

  • DirecTV MySports Pricing, Availability Announced

DirecTV has stitched together a skinny bundle of sports channels, targeted at people who want to watch live sports without paying for a broad TV package.

Launching Tuesday, DirecTV MySports initially includes 40 sports and broadcast channels and is available in 24 metro areas, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and the San Francisco Bay Area.

The MySports package will normally be priced at $69.99 per month. Customers who sign up online for the package before Feb. 28, 2025, are eligible to receive MySports for $49.99 per month for the first three months. The company also is offering a free five-day trial of DirecTV MySports.

MySports is priced well under DirecTV’s Entertainment and Sports Pack entry-level streaming package, which is regularly $101.98/month. The service launches just days after Disney, Fox Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery announced they were scrapping Venu Sports, the companies’ joint venture that had been planning to offer a sports-centric streaming bundle for $42.99 per month.

DirecTV secured distribution rights for the MySports channels through agreements with media companies including Disney, Fox Corp., Warner Bros. Discovery and NBCUniversal.

VIP+ Analysis: Why Sports Is Traditional TV’s Hail Mary, Despite Pressure From Streaming

The package also includes networks from each of the major U.S. sports leagues — NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB — and major collegiate conferences. Currently, the package does not include Paramount Global’s CBS; DirecTV is in talks to add the broadcaster to the mix.

WBD said the agreement with DirecTV to include its nets in the MySports bundle is part of a larger overall carriage deal. “Warner Bros. Discovery is pleased to partner with DirecTV on its newly announced genre package as part of a new, multiyear agreement for WBD’s full portfolio of networks,” a company rep said. The DirecTV deal comes after Warner Bros. Discovery inked similar multiyear pacts with Comcast and Charter Communications, the two biggest U.S. pay-TV distributors.

DirecTV said the launch of MySports will be followed by additional genre options in 2025 with packages geared around kids and family programming and entertainment networks. DirecTV had referenced plans to roll out genre-based tiers when it inked a new deal with Disney last September.

“The introduction of MySports from DirecTV delivers consumers greater choice, flexibility and control to select the type of content they want to watch at the right value,” DirecTV CEO Bill Morrow said. “This is the first of several genre-based options we plan to launch over the coming months on our path towards a brighter TV future for consumers.”

National sports channels available at launch through DirecTV MySports include: ACC Network, Big Ten Network, DirecTV 4K Live, DirecTV 4K Live 2, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPNU, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, Golf Channel, MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, NHL Network, SEC Network, TBS, TNT, TruTV and USA Network. Broadcast channels will initially include any local stations owned and operated by ABC, Fox and NBC. Additional networks, local stations and ESPN+ will be included in MySports at “no extra cost in the near future,” according to DirecTV.

DirecTV has more details about MySports at this link, including initial launch markets.

Those in 24 major metro regions, like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and the San Francisco Bay Area (Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose), will have access to local ABC, Fox and NBC stations starting this week. Customers in metro areas including Houston, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Gainesville, Fla., Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Orlando, Phoenix, Seattle, Tampa, Miami, Boston, New Haven, Conn., and San Diego will receive at least some of their local ABC, NBC or Fox stations (in cities where the network owns the local station outlet). Those in other markets will get their local stations as affiliates opt in.

VIP+ Analysis: A Decade of Data Supports Sports’ Domination of Broadcast TV

Users can stream MySports through the DirecTV mobile app and via platforms including Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV. The service will also include game-time notifications and an unlimited cloud-based DVR.

In addition, as with all DirecTV packages, MySports customers will also have access to the MyFree DirecTV ad-supported sports channels, which includes ACC Digital Network, Big 12, Fight Network, Fuel TV, Origin Sports, Pickleball TV, Players TV, Sports Grid, Stadium Stream, Surfer TV, Swerve Combat, T2, The Jim Rome Show, TNA, Torque by History, Waypoint TV and Women’s Sports Network.

Exciting news for sports fans! DirecTV has just announced the pricing and availability for their new MySports package.

With MySports, subscribers will have access to a wide range of sports channels, including ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, and more. Whether you’re a football fanatic, basketball buff, or soccer supporter, MySports has you covered.
