2025 NBA Rising Stars Game: League announces pool of players competing for chance to play against All-Stars

The NBA announced the rosters for the Rising Stars Challenge for All-Star Weekend in San Francisco, highlighting the best rookies and sophomores across the league. Similar to last season, the Rising Stars Challenge will consist of four teams, with rosters drafted by honorary head coaches who have yet to be announced. Three of the teams will consist of NBA rookies and sophomores, while the fourth team will consist of the seven G League players selected.

In keeping with the police department’s commitment to be innovative in its mission to enhance Nashville’s safety, Chief John Drake today announced the implementation of an additional overlapping officer work shift effective February 1 to enhance police visibility during peak hours and reduce response time for non-emergency calls.
“The new D-shift, to be staffed by a total of 41 officers, 5 sergeants and 1 lieutenant, will operate 7 days a week between the hours of noon and 10:30 p.m.,” Chief Drake said. “D-shift officers will have the flexibility to provide additional resources to any of our 8 precincts across the county, particularly those that have a higher volume of pending calls.”
Officers comprising the D-shift had been part of precinct-based community engagement teams, which continue to be fully operational, just with fewer personnel. Chief Drake noted that community engagement will always be one of the MNPD’s core pillars.
The new D-shift will provide for 4 overlapping shifts on a daily basis:
- Day Detail (A-shift): 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Evening Detail (B-shift): 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
- Overnight Detail (C-shift): 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Afternoon/Evening Detail (D-shift): noon-10:30 p.m.
The D-shift will be led by Lieutenant Brad Nave. Considering regular days off, vacations, sick leave, in-service training, etc., the D-shift will operate with a minimum staffing of 18 officers plus supervisors. Besides supporting precincts with a high call volume, D shift officers will also assist in securing large crime scenes, respond to demonstrations/protests, and support other precision policing efforts.
Attention all department members,I am pleased to announce that starting tomorrow, we will be implementing a new additional officer work shift to better serve our community. This decision comes in response to the increasing demands and calls for service that our department has been receiving.
The new shift will provide us with more coverage during peak hours and help us maintain a proactive approach to crime prevention. Our goal is to enhance our response times and overall effectiveness in keeping our community safe.

New Delhi:The Union Budget 2025 will have a focus on expansion of the Indian Institutes of Technology, promotion of education in Artificial Intelligence and Indian languages. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also noted that Budget 2025 focuses on the development of poor, youth, farmers and women.
The number of students have increased in 23 IITs by 100 per cent in the last 10 years. The Budget proposes to divert funds for creation of additional infrastructure in the five IITs established after 2014 for 6,500 students. The government also plans to expand IIT Patna in the country.
Ms Sitharaman has announced the set up around 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs in the country in the next five years. All government secondary schools will be provided with broadband connectivity.
With an aim to provide education for better understanding in rural and remote regions, the government will promote education in Indian languages with the Bhartiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme.
Around five centres of excellence will be set up in the country with global expertise.
Centre of excellence in AI for education will announce three sectors of education.
The Union Budget talked about investing in people with Saksham Aganwadi and Poshan 2.0 programme. The programme will benefit more than 8 crore children, 20 lakh girls adolescent girls and pregnant women.

UMD announces new TerpAI chatbot
The University of Maryland launched TerpAI, a university-owned generative chatbot designed to assist students, staff and faculty, according to a campuswide email sent Friday.
The university chatbot is powered by OpenAI as one of the artificial intelligence services provided by the Division of Information Technology, according to the email.
But TerpAI differs from other chatbots because its data is inputted from this university, university president Darryll Pines told The Diamondback Friday.
“AI technology and tools offer immense opportunities, and it is critical that we embrace them while also using them in a responsible and ethical way,” the email read.

Students, staff and faculty should follow this university’s generative AI guidelines when using GenAI tools, the email read. Students should also assume GenAI tools are prohibited to help with assignments unless otherwise specified, according to the email.
This university’s guidelines encourage users of GenAI to disclose when it is used in teaching, learning or other activities.
Allegations of using GenAI without permission in a course will be treated similarly to this university’s policy on plagiarism and cheating, according to the guidelines.
The launch comes after other AI initiatives at this university, such as this university’s plan to hire of 40 new faculty members across the colleges and schools at the Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland.

Google took the low-key route for the launch of its next-gen flagship AI model, Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental. Instead of a splashy announcement, the company revealed the model in a changelog for its Gemini chatbot app.
The launch of Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental — the successor to the Gemini 1.5 Pro model that Google launched last February — comes as the tech world remains fixated on Chinese AI startup DeepSeek. DeepSeek’s latest models, which are openly available for companies to download and use, match or best many leading models from American tech giants and AI companies in terms of performance. That’s led to a reckoning in Silicon Valley — and at the highest levels of the U.S. government.
Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental, which is available to Gemini Advanced users beginning Thursday, is now the leading model in Google’s Gemini AI family, the company said. It should provide “better factuality” and “stronger performance” for coding and mathematics-related tasks.

“We believe in rapid iteration and bringing the best of Gemini to the world, and we want to give Gemini Advanced subscribers priority access to our latest AI innovations,” Google continued in the changelog. “Your feedback helps us improve these models over time and learning from experimental launches informs how we release models more widely.”
Coinciding with the Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental release, Google has brought the Gemini 2.0 Flash model it announced in December to the Gemini app for all users. It’ll remain the default Gemini app model for the foreseeable future.

“When I began my recovery almost 12 years ago many things changed but one thing stayed the same: my desire to share new music and create new memories,” he wrote in the post. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to continue doing that thanks to family, friends, fans, and God’s grace,” he added.
“After my last release, I told you there would be more where that came from and I’m excited to jump back in the saddle and release a brand new recording, ‘Horses in Heaven,’” Travis shared. “I still remember the first time I stepped into those stirrups as a little boy, and my horses have been family to me ever since,” he added.

Clemson’s stadium would give the club the opportunity to break its single-game attendance record, which now stands at more than 45,000 after a Sept. 22, 2024 trip to Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia, Pa.
Memorial Stadium, in addition to playing as the home to Clemson’s National Championship Football program, has also hosted many previous world-class events, including The George Strait Country Music Festival, The Rolling Stones, Living Colour, Pink Floyd, Elton John, U2, the Eagles and Billy Joel.
