Everything you need to know about the annual Pirate Fest
TAMPA, Fla. — The 2025 Gasparilla Pirate Fest is almost here, and thousands of pirates are ready to invade Hillsborough Bay.
Grab your beads, costumes and eye patches, and get ready for the annual Gasparilla parades.
Be sure to bundle up because we’ll be dealing with some extra chilly weather this year. Tampa City leaders and its law enforcement partners also pledged additional resources to keep the community safe during festivities.
The parades will affect parking and traffic, so here’s everything you need to know about the fest.
The 2025 Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa Gasparilla Pirate Fest kicks off on Saturday, January 25.
Gasparilla Invasion: 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
This year, the Jose Gasparilla II will set sail from the south of Hillsborough Bay and continue north to the Seddon Channel (the area between Davis Island & Harbour Island) before docking at the Tampa Convention Center.
The annual reenactment of Tampa’s historic invasion of the Gasparilla Flotilla
The Gasparilla Flotilla, led by Jose Gasparilla and the swashbuckling YMKG pirates, will dock at the Tampa Convention Center, where they’ve commanded Mayor Jane Castor to surrender the key to the city to the Captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla.
With the key to the city in hand, the Krewe celebrates their victory in a Parade of Pirates down Bayshore Boulevard.
Parking: Parking will be available at the Tampa Convention Center and throughout downtown. City-run garages will have a special event parking rate paid upon entry. Officials recommend attendees arrive early as parking will fill up quickly for the event.
Tickets: Free to the public
Weather: ABC Action News meteorologist Greg Dee said the coldest morning of the week still looks to be Saturday as Tampa falls into the mid-30s and upper 20s (another freeze) return north of the Bay. We’ll be a little milder Saturday with highs in the low 60s and plenty of sun. If you’re going to the Gasparilla Pirate Invasion, be sure to layer up. In the sun you may feel ok but in the shade and the late afternoon and evening, it will feel cold.
Gasparilla Parade: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
To celebrate their capture of Tampa, the Captain and his Krewe share their wealth—glittering beads, treasures and doubloons—with a lively, enthusiastic crowd all along the 4.5-mile parade route.
Tampa’s original buccaneers make their way down historic Bayshore Boulevard and into downtown Tampa amidst colorful costumes and festive music. The Gasparilla Parade of the Pirates will boast around 140 units of floats, Krewes, marching bands and the infamous YMKG pirates.
The parade begins at Bay to Bay and Bayshore Boulevard. It continues along Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein Street, then north on Ashley Drive. The parade ends at Cass Street and Ashley Drive.
Tickets: Free to the public. Reserved seating is available here.
The 2025 Pirate Fest will feature stages along the Riverwalk in downtown Tampa, with live entertainment pre and post-parade in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park (Ashley and Twiggs), and MacDill Park (Ashley and Whiting).

#annual #Pirate #FestTrump pardons anti-abortion protesters a day before annual March for Life rally
President Donald Trump signs a series of executive orders in the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday. WASHINGTON— President Donald Trump signed an executive order pardoning 23 anti-abortion-rights activists Thursday, one day before he is expected to address thousands of anti-abortion-rights demonstrators at their annual march in Washington.
“Twenty-three people were prosecuted, they should not have been prosecuted,” Trump said at the Oval Office signing ceremony Thursday, noting that “many of them” are elderly. “This is a great honor to sign. They will be very happy.”
Some are in jail, White House staff secretary Will Scharf told Trump as he stood next to him. None of their names were immediately released. Conservatives have charged the Biden administration with using a 1994 law protecting abortion clinics, providers and patients to target peaceful protesters.
Congress enacted the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act in response to an increase in violence against abortion providers and their patients, with the aim of allowing people to safely access such services. It also protects First Amendment religious rights. Property damage can be prosecuted under the statute.
Several of the people prosecuted under the law were involved in a 2021 blockade of a Washington, D.C., reproductive health care clinic.
Advocates for clemency argue that the Biden administration used the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act to prosecute anti-abortion-rights protesters unjustly. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, re-introduced legislation this week to repeal the measure.
The annual March for Life along the National Mall is Friday, the third time the demonstration has been held since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022. Trump is expected to address the crowd virtually, while Vice President JD Vance will speak in person.
Trump, on the campaign trail, wavered on his abortion message as he searched for a political middle ground that would allow him to grow his coalition and win the election. At times he seemed uneasy about how to proceed.
But he promised at the 2023 Pray Vote Stand Summit that if he won he would appoint a task force “to rapidly review the cases of every political prisoner who’s been unjustly persecuted by the Biden administration” and that “never again will the federal government be used to target religious believers.”
Trump has signed dozens of executive actions since his inauguration Monday, including one pardoning over 1,500 people involved in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
By Trump’s second day in office, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., had issued a public appeal for clemency for the defendants, who he claimed were “unjustly targeted & jailed by the Biden Administration” for their anti-abortion-rights beliefs, telling Trump on social media that “they deserve to be free.”
President Trump has granted pardons to a group of anti-abortion protesters just one day before the annual March for Life rally in Washington, D.C. The protesters were arrested last year for peacefully demonstrating outside of abortion clinics. In a statement released by the White House, President Trump expressed his support for the protesters and their cause, stating that they were exercising their First Amendment rights to peacefully protest against abortion. He also emphasized his commitment to protecting the rights of the unborn and upholding the sanctity of life.
The decision to pardon the protesters has been met with mixed reactions, with supporters praising President Trump for standing up for their beliefs, while critics argue that the pardons undermine the rule of law and send a dangerous message to those who engage in illegal activities in the name of their cause.
The annual March for Life rally is set to take place tomorrow, and the pardoned protesters are expected to attend in celebration of their newfound freedom. It remains to be seen how this controversial decision will impact the ongoing debate surrounding abortion rights in the United States.

As World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025 Opens, Leaders Call For Renewed Global Collaboration In The Intelligent Age – Eurasia Review
Addressing a gathering of global leaders, Klaus Schwab, World Economic Forum Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, officially opened the 55th Annual Meeting, setting the tone for the week by highlighting the meeting’s theme: Collaboration for the Intelligent Age.
“This transition from the Industrial to the Intelligent Age is occurring at an exponential pace, carrying unprecedented risks for humanity as we strive to prepare and adapt for its complexities, he said. “Yet, it also offers significant opportunities to transcend our current challenges and spark a new renaissance – one defined by advancements in knowledge, health, culture and societal welfare.”
Schwab called on the global community to rise to the moment with “constructive optimism”, urging stakeholders from all sectors – government, business, civil society and academia – to unite in crafting solutions to shared challenges. “By embracing constructive optimism and believing in our collective capacity and commitment to improving the state of the world, we can shape the Intelligent Age as an age where every human being can realize their full potential.”
Speaking at what he described as “one of the most uncertain geopolitical and geoeconomic moments in generations,” Børge Brende, President and CEO, World Economic Forum, stressed that the world is at a critical inflection point and that 2025 will be a year of enormous consequence. “The longstanding international order that existed for the last three decades has receded. We need to find more effective ways to work together. It is the only way forward.”
In these turbulent times, democratic and liberal values serve as a critical signpost for stability and progress, said Karin Keller-Sutter, President of the Swiss Confederation 2025; Federal Councillor; Head of the Federal Department of Finance of Switzerland, Federal Department of Finance of Switzerland, adding that open markets, fair and transparent rules and fiscal discipline are the cornerstones of sustained prosperity. “Only a state with stable institutions can create a sound environment where everyone can realize their potential, and a state must protect this freedom with rules.”
Also reflecting on the changing world order, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, outlined Europe’s plan to adapt to a new era of “harsh geostrategic competition” by increasing its competitiveness, strengthening global partnerships and maintaining its commitment to sustainable development.
“To sustain our growth in the next quarter of the century, Europe must shift gears,” she said. “We should not take anything for granted. We must look for new opportunities wherever they arise. This is the moment to engage beyond blocs and taboos. And Europe is ready for change.”
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for renewed commitments to security and prosperity in the face of global challenges, emphasizing that partnerships serve as the “engine for successful economic development.” He highlighted plans to reform German public debt regulations to strengthen domestic growth and emphasized Europe’s need to strengthen its defence capabilities and industrial base. His remarks acknowledged geopolitical challenges and uncertainties related to the new administration in Washington, but highlighted optimism about opportunities in emerging technologies.
As the war in Ukraine nears its third year, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, urged Europe to solidify its position as a leading global power. Highlighting the need for unity and strategic investment, he emphasized that the continent must prioritize alliances, technological advancements, and a cohesive security and defence policy. He pointed to existing models of cooperation in Ukraine’s defence as examples of how collective action can strengthen Europe as a whole.
“Europe needs to compete for the top spot in priorities, alliances and technological development,” Zelenskyy stated. “We need a united European security and defence policy, and all European countries must be willing to spend as much on security as is truly needed.”
Amid rising geopolitical tensions, Ding Xuexiang, Vice-Premier of the People’s Republic of China, warned against the growing fragmentation of the global economic system and rising protectionism, emphasizing that “trade war has no winners”. He advocated for a universally beneficial globalization process, reaffirming China’s commitment to a UN-centred multilateral order and calling for greater cooperation in scientific and technological innovation to ensure equitable advancements for all nations.
Ding also addressed global challenges such as climate change and economic inequality, urging nations to pursue green transitions and foster sustainable development through inclusive dialogue and partnership. Highlighting China’s economic resilience, progress in green energy and ongoing reforms, he asserted that China’s growth contributes to global stability and prosperity. “China’s door of opening up will not be closed and will only open even wider, and our business environment will only get better,” Ding said.
Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of Viet Nam, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence (AI). “We aim to prioritize the establishment of research and development centres, particularly in high-technology sectors. These efforts will not only advance technological innovation, but also position Viet Nam as a hub for high-tech manufacturing and development in the region,” he added.
With South Africa recently assuming the G20 Presidency, Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, outlined Africa’s objectives for the G20 Summit, set to take place in Johannesburg in November 2025, the first to be hosted in Africa. He said South Africa will focus its G20 Presidency on three themes: solidarity, equality and sustainable development.
“As we confront the challenges of the 21st century – from climate change to pandemics, from poverty to terrorism, from migration to AI – we are again called upon to harness that most powerful, and that most enduring, of human attributes: mutually beneficial cooperation and collaboration,” he said.
Navigating the ongoing challenges of regional instability, Isaac Herzog, President of Israel, welcomed the recent ceasefire and release of three hostages, but cautioned against unwarranted optimism. “I want to be lucid and cautious…there are opportunities, but still risks. We must ensure this never happens again,” he said.
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025 has officially kicked off, with leaders from around the world coming together to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the intelligent age. As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, it has become increasingly important for countries to work together in order to navigate the complexities of this new era.During the opening session of the meeting, leaders emphasized the need for renewed global collaboration in order to address the many issues facing the world today. From climate change to economic inequality, it is clear that no single country can solve these problems on their own. Only through working together can we hope to create a more sustainable and prosperous future for all.
As we enter this new era of intelligence, it is crucial that we do not lose sight of the values that have guided us in the past. Cooperation, empathy, and compassion are just as important now as they have ever been. By coming together at forums like the World Economic Forum, we can ensure that these values remain at the forefront of our decision-making processes.
In the coming days, leaders will continue to discuss how best to navigate the challenges of the intelligent age. By working together and sharing ideas, we can create a world that is more inclusive, more sustainable, and more prosperous for all. Let us hope that the discussions at this year’s meeting will lead to concrete action and positive change for the future.

Disneyland Annual Passes Go on Sale Next Week
Disneyland Resort’s highly coveted Magic Key annual passes are set to go on sale Jan. 22. The announcement gives Disney theme park fans six days to strategize which pass might offer the best value. Magic Keys allow passholders to visit Disneyland multiple times a year for one price, and they can easily pay for themselves in as few as four visits, depending on the pass type.
But securing one requires some finesse, as Magic Keys typically only go on sale twice a year and often sell out the same day. Here’s what to know about the Magic Key annual passes, whether it’s worth it and how to make the most of this opportunity while keeping your budget in check.
Disneyland Magic Key tiers
Magic Keys, Disneyland Resort’s annual pass program, offer various tiers with perks beyond Park Hopper theme park admission, including access to purchase exclusive merchandise and dining discounts.
There are four types of Magic Key Passes available for purchase, with the most expensive ones offering fewer blackout dates and more goodies in terms of bigger discounts. Here are the four tiers, their prices and some key details:
Imagine Key (only available to SoCal residents)
Number of visits per year to be “worth it” based on $169 daily ticket prices
Number of theme park reservations that can be held at a time
Parking discounts (at select locations)
Dining discounts (at select locations)
Merchandise discounts (at select locations)
Few, aside from weeks around Christmas.
Most Saturdays during peak seasons like summer and spring break, plus holidays (including the weeks around Christmas).
Most Saturdays, all of July, plus long periods during peak seasons including spring break and Christmas.
Weekends, all of June and July, plus long periods during peak seasons including spring break and Christmas.
To purchase the cheapest version, Imagine Key, you must be a Southern California resident living in ZIP codes 90000 to 93599 and you’ll need to show proof of eligible residency, such as a valid government-issued photo ID.
If you’re someone who visits Disneyland several times a year, the pass can pay for itself quickly in ticket savings alone. Add in the parking, dining and merchandise discounts, and the pass becomes even more valuable.
QuesaBirria at Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill and Beef Birria Ramen at Lucky Fortune Cookery. (Photo by Sally French)
Using an Inspire Key for the 20% discount would bring this roughly $30 meal for two — QuesaBirria and Beef Birria Ramen in Disney California Adventure — down to $24. Plus, you’d get just over $1 worth in travel rewards for paying with your Chase Sapphire Reserve® because you can redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards for 1.5 cents each in Chase’s travel portal.
You could also pair your Magic Key discounts with a discounted Disney gift card. The Target Circle Credit Card offers 5% off most Target purchases, including Disney gift cards, which are sold online and in most stores. Show your Magic Key and then pay for your food or merchandise with your gift cards purchased through Target for even more savings.
Magic Key holders can save up to 20% on merchandise. (Photo by Sally French)
Still, Magic Key is not for everyone. The blackout dates may make it difficult to visit enough times to make the cost worth it. You’ll also have to budget for the additional costs of going to Disneyland multiple times, like paying for parking. Even with the 25% parking discount, theme park parking at Disneyland will still cost $26 per visit. If you’re not one to buy souvenirs or you’re more likely to bring your own food into the parks, those discounts may not provide significant savings.
Plus, there are other ways to buy Disney tickets at a discount without locking yourself into a full annual pass. For example, there are currently discounts on three-visit passes for Southern California residents and kids’ tickets.
Maximize your odds of actually getting a Magic Key
Magic Keys are typically in far shorter supply than demand. Here’s how to maximize your odds of being able to buy one in the first place.
-
Mark your calendar: Magic Key passes go on sale Jan. 22, and the window of availability is usually narrow. Set a reminder and prepare to act fast.
-
Log in early: Though passes go on sale at 9 a.m. PT, the online queue opens at 8:45 a.m. And even before 8:45 a.m., have logged in prior to that to ensure you have sufficient time to track down a forgotten password.
-
Know which tier you want: Review the benefits and costs of each pass tier to ensure it aligns with your planned visits. Don’t wait until 9 a.m. to start doing research, as the pass you want might quickly sell out. And on that note, have a backup plan. If one pass tier sells out, know if you’d be willing to buy another pass tier instead — and be prepared to make a quick decision.
Why 2025 will be a fun year for the Disneyland Resort in 2025
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. (Photo by Meghan Coyle)
After a long period of construction projects that spanned the last couple years, 2025 is set to be a big year for the Disneyland Resort. The much-anticipated Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction opened in November 2024, bringing a significant “The Princess and the Frog”-themed update to the former Splash Mountain attraction.
Nearby, Disney has expanded the grounds around the iconic Haunted Mansion ride, including a new seating area called Magnolia Park plus a themed shop called Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond.

The resort has also given a ton of adventure to Downtown Disney, its free-to-visit outdoor shopping and dining area. New, themed shops include Avengers Reserve (for Marvel fans) and the D-Lander Shop. The resort is also bringing in beloved chain restaurants, including Porto’s Bakery and Café (set to open in 2025) and the recently-opened Din Tai Fung, famous for its soup dumplings.
There’s also a lot to like for repeat visitors. The 2025 Disney events calendar includes a bunch of seasonal festivals and one-off events, giving fans reason to return (and see something new when they do). Highlights for 2025 include:
-
Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure Park (Jan. 17-Feb. 16): This year’s festival celebrates the Year of the Snake with live performances and themed food.
-
Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival (Feb. 28-April 21): This festival focuses on higher-end food creations and wine pairings.
-
Disneyland Resort’s 70th Celebration (begins May 16): Set to honor the park’s 70th birthday, expect new entertainment, decor and limited-edition merchandise.
