The giveaway begins at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at Kwik Star, 5145 NE 14th St., according to a release from the Rev. Rob Johnson and Fueling Hope. People can start lining up at at the station at noon as volunteers organize them.
Why is Fueling Hope giving away gas?
Hosted by Johnson and 100 volunteers, the Fueling Hope Gas Giveaway helps families by providing free gas “to alleviate financial burdens and bring hope to their lives.”
“The Fueling Hope Annual Gas Giveaway is more than just an event — it’s a reminder of the power of community and compassion,” Johnson said in the release.
Who is helping sponsor the gas giveaway?
Johnson said the event would not be possible without sponsors such as the Iowa Public Health Association, Iowa Immunizes and other community partners.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Molina Healthcare of Iowa, REFORM, Iowa Public Health Association, Iowa Immunizes, Creative Visions, and many other sponsors and donors to make this year’s giveaway bigger and better than ever,” he said in the release.

Fueling Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families in need, held its annual gas giveaway in Des Moines this past weekend. Fueling Hope founder, Sarah Johnson, spoke about the importance of the event in helping those who are facing financial hardship. “We believe that no one should have to choose between putting food on the table and filling up their gas tanks. Our annual gas giveaway is just one way we can support our community and provide a little bit of relief during these challenging times,” she said.
The event was made possible through the generous donations of local businesses and community members who support Fueling Hope’s mission. The organization plans to continue hosting the gas giveaway each year to help those in need and spread hope throughout the community.

San Francisco rings in 2025 with annual fireworks extravaganza – NBC Bay Area
San Francisco kicked off 2025 with a bang.
A large crowd of people packed the Embarcadero for the annual fireworks show at the stroke of midnight.
The fireworks was launched from a barge stationed between the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge.
It’s a 15-minute display that the producer said is a special show just for the City by the Bay.
At lunchtime, the California Hornblower steam boat was already making it’s New Year’s Eve lunch run. It will be cruising just before midnight as well.
Outside Chase Center at midday, some people had their own 2025 countdown for what organizers called a celebration for those who don’t plan on staying up until midnight.
Later Tuesday night, a large crowd gathered as they were waiting to watch the show. It also meant business along the Embarcadero were selling all kinds of sparkly New Year’s Eve.
“I’m selling balloons, lights, teddy bears for the girls for the people in love so they can enter the new year with a good partner and love,” said street vendor Omar Gonzalez.
“We’re really excited for the new year-it seems there’s more movement downtown and we’re hoping it’s looking up,” said Jacob Paronyan, General manager of Boulevard Restaurant.
For those who got a window seat at Boulevard, they had a great view of those fireworks at midnight.
“What we love about this place in San Francisco. It is San Francisco and San Francisco is on its way back and we’re looking forward to a great 2025,” said Jeff Stack of San Francisco.

Nashville rings in 2025 with annual New Year’s Eve Big Bash
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Celebrations are underway at New Year’s Eve Live Nashville’s Big Bash.
Hundreds of thousands are expected to join at Bicentennial Park to watch performances by Keith Urban, Kane Brown, Jelly Roll and more.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The celebrations will start with a few words from Mayor Freddie O’Connell around 6 p.m. and will end with the Music Note drop with a 90-second fireworks display from the tower 350 feet in the sky and over 500 feet in the sky from Capitol Hill.
This year marks the 16th New Year’s Eve bash in Nashville and the eighth year at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park.
