Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr. returns in second half after suffering apparent ankle injury vs. Tennessee

The No. 5-ranked Florida Gators have been fortunate from an injury standpoint throughout the first 20 games of the 2024-25 regular season, yet UF’s luck took a turn for the worst in the first half of Saturday’s contest at Tennessee.
Facing an under-manned Volunteers team playing without standout guard Zakai Zeigler and forward Igor Milicic Jr., the Gators found themselves in a tight contest as the first half neared its conclusion, with leading scorer Walter Clayton Jr. accounting for 10 points to lead all scorers.
However, the senior guard had to be helped to the locker room after suffering an apparent ankle injury with 1:07 remaining in the first half. Clayton appeared to be in considerable pain as he was helped to Florida’s bench before departing for the locker room.
Having led by four midway through the first half, the Gators entered the locker room trailing to the Vols, 24-21.
Clayton, a Lake Wales native who spent his first two seasons of collegiate basketball at Iona, needs just two points to join UF’s 1,000-point club. A week ago, Will Richard’s game-winning shot with 4.8 seconds left in regulation at South Carolina gave him his 1,000th point as a Gator.
Ahead of UF’s contest at Tennessee, third-year Florida head coach Todd Golden discussed the potency of the Gators’ backcourt, saying their success was aided by the play of Florida’s frontcourt.
“Our bigs, they probably don’t get enough credit for how good we are offensively, because obviously Walter is such an efficient scorer, Alijah’s been so good for us and Will has really taken it up a notch, right? Those three, and Denzel (Aberdeen) obviously. I mean, he’s been great the majority of the year as well. And those guys have the ball in their hands a lot, they make a lot of plays and they deserve a lot of the credit. But I think we probably have the easiest frontcourt in America to play with, with the way we play, three out, two in, obviously having two big guys on the floor, it’s not easy to do and to be able to be smooth offensively the way we are, Condo (Alex Condon), Tommy (Haugh), Sam (Alexis), even Rueben (Chinyelu), they deserve a lot of credit for the way we move the ball, and kind of get to the second and third side offensively and what you obviously do a great job of recognizing and realizing is how effective our bigs are carving out space for our guards in the paint, in and around the rim and a lot of those two-point field goals,” Golden said. “Our guards shoot an incredible number from two, their two-point field goal percentage is just elite, I mean it’s just absurd and a big part of it is when they get in there and they’re finishing around the rim, our bigs are taking the rim pressure away, with their bodies and their physicality.”

Michigan priest defrocked after making apparent Nazi salute at anti-abortion summit | Michigan
A Michigan priest with the Anglican Catholic church has been removed from his position for making what appears to be a Nazi salute.
Calvin Robinson, who held the title of priest-in-charge at St Paul’s Anglican Catholic church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, performed the gesture at the end of a 25 January speech at the National Pro-Life Summit in Washington DC. The priest appeared to quote Elon Musk, saying, “My heart goes out to you,” before mimicking his straight-arm motion.
According to a statement on the Anglican Catholic church’s website, Robinson’s license in the church was subsequently revoked and he will no longer serve as a priest.
“We believe that those who mimic the Nazi salute, even as a joke or an attempt to troll their opponents, trivialize the horror of the Holocaust and diminish the sacrifice of those who fought against its perpetrators,” the statement reads. “Such actions are harmful, divisive, and contrary to the tenets of Christian charity.”
Robinson posted a statement on his Facebook page on Wednesday defending the gesture as “a joke” in “mockery of the hysterical ‘liberals’ who called Elon Musk a Nazi for quite clearly showing the audience his heart was with them”.
“For the record, in case it needs saying: I am not a Nazi,” he wrote.
He went on to describe his attempt at humor as being “dry wit, in that typical British way” and that the gesture was “not a joke at the expense of WWII, nor an admission of my membership in the Nationalist Socialist Party. That would be an incredibly ignorant and bad faith assumption to make.”
Immediately after video of the incident went viral, comparisons to Elon Musk’s apparent fascist gestures at Trump’s inauguration were made.
Musk went on to make jokes about the gesture and Nazism on his social media platform X that many found in poor taste. Last week, Musk made a surprise appearance at a German far-right rally where he encouraged people to “move beyond” the guilt of past actions, apparently referring to the Holocaust.
“It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything,” Musk said.

For reference, Jen and Alex got engaged in March 2019 after two years of dating, but they didn’t actually tie the knot before their split in March 2021.
Still, celebrity wedding planner Marcy Blum has said that Jennifer was in the process of planning her and Alex’s wedding before they called the whole thing off — and she had a very specific performer in mind for her big day.

According to Marcy, Jennifer was interested in having Bruno perform — but changed her mind once she heard his extortionate price tag.
Speaking on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast, Marcy explained that she is able to speak openly about her time working on this particular A-list wedding because she didn’t sign an NDA.
Recalling her experience on the pod, Marcy revealed that Jen enquired about hiring Bruno to sing at some point during her day, and Marcy told the star: “We just worked with him, and he’s five.”
“Million?” podcast host Michael Bosstick asked. “Just to perform for the night?”
“The night?!” Marcy responded. “You get 45 minutes, you get an hour.”

And, according to Marcy, Jen was just as shocked as Michael by this extortionate expense, with the wedding planner recalling the bride-to-be telling her: “Don’t be ridiculous” when she was told how much Bruno would cost.

While Jennifer and Alex didn’t end up making it down the aisle, Jen did marry Ben Affleck in July 2022 after they rekindled their ‘00s romance the previous year.
Notably, Bruno did not perform at this ceremony, and Jen and Ben confirmed they had split in August of this year.
Meanwhile, Marcy did book Bruno — who has a reported net worth of $175 million — to perform at another lavish wedding in September 2021.
The “24k Magic” singer was the entertainment at socialite Troy Brown’s wedding to Kristin Ryan in Cape Cod, with Troy the son of Motorola CEO Greg Brown.

Speaking on the podcast, Marcy also gave some tips for other couples thinking of booking a famous performer for their wedding day as she advised against hiring a star for the first dance because it’ll steal attention away from the bride and groom.
“You would never have a headliner, if you were sane, as the regular entertainment,” she explained. “No one wants to do their first dance — or maybe they do, but they shouldn’t — to Coldplay or something. That’s just dumb.”
“You want a band band and maybe a DJ,” Marcy went on. “And then maybe you want 45 minutes of Chris Martin or Elton John or whomever you want. Because otherwise, it’s all about them.”

Trump says Bill Gates asked to meet in apparent message to Musk
In a message that appeared to be intended as a private communication to Elon Musk, President-elect Donald Trump said in a social media post Friday that Microsoft founder Bill Gates had asked to meet with him.
“Where are you? When are you coming to the ‘Center of the Universe,’ Mar-a-Lago. Bill Gates asked to come, tonight. We miss you and x! New Year’s Eve is going to be AMAZING!!! DJT,” Trump wrote in the Truth Social post.
Gates has reached out to the Trump transition about a possible meeting with Trump, a person familiar with the talks told CNN, but as of now it’s unclear whether the two will meet. Trump has met with several tech CEOs and business leaders at his home since winning November’s election. CNN has reached out to Gates for comment.
The message appears to include a reference to Musk’s son, X Æ A-Xii, whom Musk colloquially refers to as X. The post comes as Musk, whom Trump named as co-leader of his government efficiency initiative, has drawn fresh criticism from loyal Trump supporters over his support of the visa program that allows highly skilled foreign workers to immigrate to the US.
Trump and Gates first met in December 2016 as Trump was preparing to take office for the first time.
Since Trump’s election victory last month, a number of tech CEOs have either spoken with Trump or visited him in Mar-a-Lago in an attempt to curry favor with the president-elect. Several Fortune 500 companies and other corporate interests have committed millions to his inauguration as well.
The CEOs who have met with Trump have come in with a clear strategy, people familiar with the meetings have previously told CNN. That includes discussing issues they know Trump will like — such as bringing manufacturing and jobs back to the US — while also sneaking in potential policy concerns they have with his new administration. Many of these CEOs are seeking the meetings as an opportunity to “start on the right page,” a source familiar with the matter previously told CNN.

Brandon police investigate apparent murder-suicide
BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – Brandon police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide.
The incident occurred in the 300 block of Toulon Street just after 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, December 28.
UPDATE: Search for suspects continues in Mississippi after Ford pickup found
Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said family members were at the home conducting a welfare check on their daughter when they found obvious signs of foul play inside the residence.
When officers responded to the scene, French said they found the bodies of 40-year-old Brandon Sheffield and 30-year-old Jennifer Sheffield.
“This is an ongoing investigation. I would like to thank the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation for their assistance with the Crime Scene Unit to assist with processing the scene,” said French.

The Brandon Police Department is currently investigating an apparent murder-suicide that took place in the city last night. Authorities were called to a residence on Maple Street after receiving reports of gunshots being fired.Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals deceased inside the home. The preliminary investigation suggests that the incident was a murder-suicide, with one individual believed to have fatally shot the other before turning the gun on themselves.
The identities of the individuals involved have not been released at this time, pending notification of next of kin. The motive for the tragic incident is still unknown, and investigators are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
