  • Done Deals – Young Duo Arrive in Rome To Complete Lazio Transfers

Lazio have sealed deals for Reda Belahyane and Oliver Provstgaard who have both landed in Rome ahead of their imminent transfers.

The Biancocelesti spent the entire January transfer session hunting a young midfielder. But after recently missing out on Torino’s new signing Cesare Casadei following a back-and-forth transfer saga, they reverted to their original target, Belahyane. The Italian capital side pounced on their good relationships with Hellas Verona to strike a swift agreement.

As reported by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the 20-year-old French Morrocan was spotted in Rome as he arrives to finalise a deadline-day transfer on Monday. The young deep-lying playmaker is an OGC Nice youth product who joined the Gialloblu a year ago for less than €1 million and made his Serie A debut under Marco Baroni.

Belahyane rose to prominence this season with Paolo Zanetti in charge, cementing himself as a regular feature for Verona. Hence, he should cost Lazio €12-13 million.

Moreover, Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani have also been seeking a new central defender, and have finally found their man in Provstgaard. According to Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 21-year-old Dane has also arrived in the Italian capital following an agreement between Lazio and Vejle on a tranfer fee of €4 million.

The young centre-back is blessed with an impressive physical frame and as well as technical attributes, rendering him a modern-day defender. Since both players are under the age of 22, neither will warrant a spot on the club’s congested Serie A squad list.

Lazio fans, get ready to welcome two exciting young talents to the club as they arrive in Rome to complete their transfers!

The first player is a highly-rated midfielder who has been making waves in his home country. Known for his technical ability and vision on the pitch, he is expected to bring a new dimension to Lazio’s midfield.

The second player is a promising forward who has been turning heads with his speed and skill. With a keen eye for goal, he is set to bolster Lazio’s attacking options and provide some much-needed firepower.

Both players are eager to prove themselves in Serie A and help Lazio achieve their goals this season. Stay tuned for the official announcements as these deals are finalized and the players are officially unveiled as Lazio’s newest signings. Exciting times ahead for the Biancocelesti! #ForzaLazio #DoneDeals

  • Extra SSI payment to arrive next week for this group of Americans

The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit in the United States arrives once a month for its beneficiaries. However, we can sometimes encounter certain irregularities that help us to collect an extra payment in some months. It is true that in January we encounter this kind of irregularities, so we must pay attention to the payment schedule.

The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment is very important for thousands of Americans who have low incomes, so it is even more important to be aware of the calendar. And in January we will have an extra payment that will allow us to collect up to $967 of this benefit before the end of the month, so it is good to check if we are eligible.

It is true that being eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is enough to collect the payment, but we will not have it in January if we have not chosen the fastest collection method. Therefore, there are several things to consider in order to get the benefit.

Who gets the extra January Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?

As we have commented, all citizens who get this Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit are eligible for this extra payment at the end of January. The Administration will send out the check on January 31st, 2025 and it will be for all beneficiaries.

The only thing to keep in mind is that we must have Direct Deposit active as a collection method. If we do not have this collection method active, the payment will arrive anyway, but not on that day, but a few days later.

Remember that in order to get monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) we have to meet certain requirements:

    • Be 65 years of age or older or have a disability.
    • Have low monthly income and low resources.

In addition, it is also good to keep in mind that the amount of SSI you get depends directly on your income. The more income, the less Supplemental Security Income (SSI) check we will get. The limit is $967 per month in 2025.

Attention all Social Security recipients! An extra SSI payment is set to arrive next week for a specific group of Americans. Stay tuned for more details on how this additional payment will benefit you. #SSI #SocialSecurity #ExtraPayment

  • Timeline: When snow could arrive Sunday in the DMV

One to four inches of snow could accumulate across the DMV Sunday.

Miri Marshall, Christopher P Laudicina, Topper Shutt

    9:32 AM EST January 17, 2025

    12:32 AM EST January 18, 2025

WASHINGTON — Snow and colder temperatures are in the forecast Sunday across metro D.C. A widespread one to four inches of snow is forecast.

    What: Accumulating snow Sunday

Impact: Untreated roads will become snow covered quickly. Slick travel.

Need:  Plan on extra travel time. Use caution and care when traveling. Shoveling and plowing.

A blast of cold air and another round of snow are in the forecast for the DMV Sunday.  As Arctic air spills into the region a disturbance will pass by giving us fresh snow.  Snow will start early Sunday morning and last through most of the day. Snow should end after 5 p.m. for most areas. Right now, we’re forecasting one to four inches of snow.  However, we are monitoring some models that could either reduce or increase those numbers.  Check with us for updates as we will adjust snow amounts as needed.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for areas west of I-95 where up to 6″ of snow is possible. Most of the DMV will end up with 2 – 4″ of snow.

    January 19 snowfall records:

    National Airport – 7.0 inches (1961)
    Dulles Airport – 4.3 inches (1978)
    BWI Airport – 7.7 inches (1961)

Southern Maryland will have a mix of rain and snow and will see less than 2 inches of accumulation.

Temperatures will drop during the day. We’ll see temperatures fall to the 20s by the end of the day.

    TIMELINE

    3 a.m. – 6 a.m. – Light rain and a wintry mix move in overnight.

6 a.m. – 9 a.m. – Precipitation switches to snow for most of the region except southern Maryland where rain will continue. Snow and rain showers will be fairly scattered at the onset with light to occasionally moderate snow.

9 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Widespread light to moderate snow with some heavier bursts.

12 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Widespread light to moderate snow with some heavier bursts continuing.

3 p.m. – 6 p.m. – Snow begins to taper off to lighter snow showers before ultimately clearing out.

    6 p.m. – 9 p.m. – A few lingering flakes with otherwise clearing skies.

With winter weather on the horizon, many residents in the DMV are wondering when they can expect the first snowfall of the season. Here is a timeline of when snow could arrive in the DMV on Sunday:

    – Early morning: There is a chance of light snow showers in the early morning hours, primarily in the western suburbs of the DMV.

    – Mid-morning: Snow showers are expected to become more widespread across the region, with the potential for light accumulation on grassy surfaces.

    – Afternoon: Snowfall may intensify in the afternoon, with the possibility of heavier bands of snow moving through the area.

    – Evening: Snow showers are likely to continue into the evening hours, potentially impacting travel conditions for those commuting home.

As always, it is important to stay informed of the latest weather updates and advisories from local officials. Stay safe and warm, DMV!

  • Below-freezing low temps arrive will arrive this weekend in the Seattle area

Overnight temperatures are expected to remain in the high 20s beginning Saturday and lasting through the middle of next week.

SEATTLE — The first stretch of prolonged cold weather will arrive in western Washington by the weekend and stick around into next week.

The overnight low temperatures will be the biggest concern in this new weather system.

Lows are expected to drop into the low 30s on Saturday, and then into the high 20s from Sunday through Wednesday.

KING 5 has activated First Alert until Saturday morning for this weather event, which could affect lives, property or travel in the Pacific Northwest region. During this event, the First Alert Weather Team will bring you the latest information to keep you and your family safe.

Fog is expected to linger in the mornings, meaning some places could be dealing with freezing fog or black ice during the early morning commute. People should also prepare their homes, making sure to address any exposed pipes and ready their gardens for freezing temperatures. Particularly fragile plants should be covered to protect them from frost.

Amid freezing temperatures, the American Red Cross recommends allowing water to drip from pipes, as even a small amount of water running through them can help prevent them from freezing and bursting.

Shelters across the region are gearing up to provide crucial assistance to those in need. Emergency spaces are being opened to keep vulnerable individuals safe from potentially life-threatening conditions.

In Snoqualmie, the cold weather shelter, Reclaim, is preparing to serve people during this severe weather event. Jennifer Kirk, the executive director of Reclaim, emphasized their commitment to helping those in need.

“We will never turn somebody away that needs those emergency services,” Kirk said.

The Salvation Army in Seattle is also anticipating increased demand for their services. With a capacity for 35 people at their location, they view their role as critical during these harsh weather conditions.

“It can be very challenging and life-threatening for people. So, this is a safety net for so many people that we serve,” explained Captain Melissa Jones, a Chaplain with the Salvation Army.

“In the Seattle Center area, we’re coordinating an activation of an additional severe weather shelter that can support 120-plus guests,” said Marc Garcia, executive director of operations for the Seattle Social Services Unit of the Salvation Army.

With temperatures set to plummet, these shelters stand ready to fulfill their mission.

“We never forget that we are a lifesaving agency before anything else that we do,” Kirk said.

People looking for a cold weather shelter can find the nearest one to them online on the 211 Washington map or by calling 2-1-1.

The weather system is expected to remain largely dry, aside from a few showers from an occasional weak weather system. Temperatures are likely to remain chilly until late next week when overnight lows will rise into the lower to mid-30s, with highs in the mid to upper-40s.

As winter weather begins to settle in, below-freezing low temperatures are set to arrive this weekend in the Seattle area. With the potential for icy conditions and frosty mornings, it’s important to take precautions to stay safe and warm.

Make sure to bundle up in layers, including a heavy coat, hat, gloves, and scarf. Keep your home heated and insulated to prevent pipes from freezing and bursting. If you must travel, drive cautiously and be prepared for slick roads.

It’s also a good idea to check on elderly neighbors or those who may need assistance during these cold spells. Stay informed about weather updates and advisories to stay ahead of any potential hazards.

While the chilly temperatures may be a shock to the system, taking the necessary steps to prepare can help ensure a safe and comfortable weekend in the Seattle area. Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the winter wonderland that awaits!

  • Notre Dame DE Bryce Young’s bright future is already starting to arrive

Notre Dame DE Bryce Young’s bright future is already starting to arrive

Notre Dame DE Bryce Young’s bright future is already starting to arrive

NEW ORLEANS — Kirby Smart first noticed Bryce Young when the Georgia head coach was doing advanced scouting on Notre Dame and Indiana prior to the two teams playing in the College Football Playoff’s first round.

Then Smart noticed Young, a freshman defensive end, again when he recorded the first solo sack of his Notre Dame career when he took down Kurtis Rourke in the third quarter of ND’s 27-17 victory over IU on Dec. 20.

As Smart reviewed more film knowing that the second-seeded Bulldogs (11-2) will play seventh-seeded Notre Dame (12-1) in Wednesday’s Sugar Bowl in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans (8:45 p.m. EST on ESPN), he came away even more impressed by Young. (UPDATE: The game has been postponed to Thursday.)

“I was like, ‘Who is this guy, 30?’” Smart recalled of his first impression of Young. “He is long. He is athletic. He’s twitchy.

“And then while watching the game, he showed up more. It was like, he made some flash plays. He’s rusher, he’s edge. And then when I dug deeper into special teams, I’m like, this guy is phenomenal on special teams, his reach, his athleticism.

“I mean, I don’t know about what he lists, but he looks bigger than he lists on paper. And he’s just going to be a phenomenal talent. To do what he’s done this early in his career just shows you how talented he’s going to be.”

The consensus among Notre Dame’s coaching staff has long been that the 6-foot-7, 258-pound Young will have a bright future. But it sure wouldn’t hurt if Young, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Notre Dame legend Bryant Young, starts shining a little brighter Wednesday night. The Irish need to replace the pass-rushing ability of defensive tackle Rylie Mills, whose season was cut short with a knee injury suffered in the Indiana game. Mills led the Irish with 7.5 sacks this season. Bryce Young has 1.5 sacks in the first 13 games of his college career.

“He played really, really well,” Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman said of Young’s performance against Indiana. “He’s played well all season. He’s a difference-maker.

“To be a true freshman and playing at the level he’s playing at, he’s got some great genetics. Make sure you give Mom a shoutout too. But he prepares the right way and is performing at a high level, and he’s a huge part of what we’re doing defensively. And we’re going to need another big game out of him as we get ready for Georgia.”

Young didn’t have much of a defensive role in the first two games of the season. He played just two defensive snaps in the 23-13 win at Texas A&M and didn’t play defense in the 16-14 loss to Northern Illinois. But special teams coordinator Marty Biagi found multiple roles for Young immediately. Since the season opener, Young has been a contributor on three special teams units: kickoff coverage, punt return/block and field goal/extra point block.

Young didn’t come to Notre Dame expecting to be a special teams ace. He didn’t play much special teams as a four-star recruit at Charlotte (N.C.) Christian. But Biagi helped Young realized how he could make an impact and gave him something on which he could focus.

“That definitely established a routine for me,” Young said. “It’s like being able to have a role and knowing that I can affect the game in that way. That definitely helped me. It carried over into defense. The way I prepared for that was the way I prepared for defense.”

Young provided pressure on multiple punters this season before eventually recording his first punt block against Army on Nov. 23. He also blocked a couple of field goal attempts against Miami (Ohio) and Georgia Tech.

Young’s opportunities on defense came for various reasons. It didn’t hurt that he enrolled early and went through spring football with the Irish. That was when he realized how much he didn’t know and had left to learn. But that didn’t scare him.

“I was like, man, there’s so much that I can grow,” Young said. “That motivated me even more knowing what I can be.”

Some of ND’s early season wins were lopsided and provided Young a chance to play more in the second halves. Then Notre Dame’s injuries at either defensive end positions started to add up. Meanwhile, Young was developing and learning how to play in Notre Dame’s defense. As a result, Young has played at least 20 defensive snaps in all but two of the last 11 games this season. Those two exceptions were against the option offenses of Navy and Army.

By late October, Young felt comfortable in his role on defense rotating with RJ Oben and Joshua Burnham.

“I had a confidence, but it was still growing,” Young said. “I was still getting used to it. By the Georgia Tech game, I was like, OK, things are starting to slow down. It just got better from there.”

Notre Dame’s striving to find better on a depleted defensive line. The Irish are now without four key contributors on the defensive line since the start of the season: vypers Jordan Botelho and Boubacar Traore (knee injuries), Mills and defensive tackle Jason Onye (personal reasons).

Meanwhile, Georgia has an offensive line that’s getting healthier at the right time of the season and will be looking to set a tone in Wednesday night’s game. The same confidence Young gained in himself throughout the season, he’s gained in his teammates who’ve been asked to elevate their games.

Time to find out if the Irish have enough left in the tank to take down the SEC champs.

“I have a lot of trust in all the guys on the D-line,” Young said. “There’s no dropoff. We have a lot of talent in the room. Whoever’s out there is gonna do their job, that’s what I know. I’m excited.”
