  • Devin Booker unveils Aspen Corner Nike Book 1 colorway

Devin Booker on Saturday debuted the Aspen Corner edition of his Nike Book 1 shoe in a Phoenix Suns win over the Washington Wizards.

It’s the third colorway in the “No Service” pack where each shoe is named after an area in Arizona’s high country, which Booker often returns to during offseasons to get a break from the populous city and avoid Valley summers.

“I go up to Flag every time the leaves turn over and go check that out,” Booker told reporters postgame. “Any bits of stories I can give to the fans or my people without just telling them or yelling in their face, I like to do it.”

Previous editions were named after Sedona and Flagstaff, and the Aspen Corner model stayed true to the theme with the silhouette of Arizona’s tallest peak — Humphrey’s Peak near Flagstaff — on the tongue under the “Book” logo.

“When they told me I was getting a shoe, I was like, ‘What’s a better way to tell stories?’ Because, you know, I don’t really talk that much. So I’d rather just tell stories through different ways like that,” Booker said. “And I think, each story having a shoe, people are finding the connections.”

Will the Aspen Corner colorway be available to purchase?

While the Sedona edition dropped on Jan. 1 at $140 and the Flagstaff colorway is expected to be released to the public on Feb. 13 retailing at $150, the Aspen Corner color will be a player-exclusive version meant for Booker only, according to Sneaker News.

Devin Booker, the star shooting guard for the Phoenix Suns, has just unveiled his latest collaboration with Nike – the Aspen Corner Nike Book 1 colorway. This new sneaker pays homage to Booker’s love for nature and the outdoors, with a color palette inspired by the beautiful Aspen trees found in the mountains.

The sneaker features a mix of green, brown, and white tones, with a subtle leaf pattern on the upper. The shoe also includes Booker’s signature logo on the tongue and heel, as well as a special edition insole with a scenic mountain design.

Booker took to social media to reveal the new colorway, writing, “Excited to finally share the Aspen Corner Nike Book 1 with you all. This shoe represents my connection to nature and the peace I find in the mountains. Can’t wait for you all to lace up and hit the trails in these.”

Fans of both Booker and Nike sneakers are sure to be eager to get their hands on this limited edition release. Keep an eye out for more details on the Aspen Corner Nike Book 1 colorway, coming soon.

  • Nike Book 1 “Aspen Corner” PE

Devin Booker’s storytelling journey continues with the Nike Book 1 “Aspen Corner”, another nod to the Arizona wilderness that inspired two recent executions of the signature model.

Continuing the series that started off with the Nike Book 1 “Sedona” and the upcoming Nike Book 1 “Flagstaff”, this new bright yellow colorway is inspired by the changing colors of the leaves of the Aspen tree native to the Flagstaff region. This occurs annually during the Fall, completely transforming the area with a bed of yellow.

Dubbed “Aspen Corner” as a nod to a popular hiking region of the area, this new Player Exclusive features the landscape on the tongue label depicting the yellowed trees with Humphrey’s Peak behind.

Although this is a PE for Devin only (he’ll wear them on the evening of January 25th), the Nike Book 1 “Flagstaff” is set to release on February 13th. The Nike Book 1 “Forrest Gump” is available now.

Nike Book 1 Aspen Corner Flagstaff Flip 1

This sneaker features a vibrant colorway inspired by the changing leaves of the aspen trees that line the trail, with a mix of green, orange, and yellow tones. The shoe also includes special details like a tree silhouette graphic on the heel and a trail map print on the insole. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of sneaker history with the Nike Book 1 “Aspen Corner” PE.

  • Rachael Kirkconnell Is in Aspen Following Breakup With Matt James

It’s officially been (*checks calendar*) one week since Bachelor Nation’s Matt James dropped the strangest breakup announcement of all time on Instagram, and fans have yet to hear from Rachael Kirkconnell (save for a few strategic “likes” here and there). But fret not, ’cause she’s currently tearing up the slopes in Aspen with her sister and seemingly doing A-OK.

On January 23, Trinity Kirkconnell shared some snapshots from an Aspen getaway to her Instagram Stories, including a group shot with Rachael:

group of ski enthusiasts in a winter setting

    @trinkirkcon/Instagram

Oh, and she posted this sweet sister selfie, too:

    rachael kirkconnell and sister

    @trinkirkcon/Instagram

Rachael hasn’t shared any pics from the trip herself (her last grid post is still a mushy birthday shout-out to Matt from December), but I’m just happy to see her happy!

ICYMI, Rachael’s younger sis was also the one who helped clear up the confusing breakup chronology when fans started questioning the timing of Matt’s post. In the comments section of a TikTok discussing Matt and Rachael’s split, Trinity confirmed that Matt posted that breakup prayer on IG only three hours (!!) after the two officially went their separate ways, which is…truly something.

conversation in a comment section discussing a recent breakup and announcement

    TikTok / @gabzilla_123456

Side note: If it’s any consulation to Rachael, Bachelor host Jesse Palmer did say he was happy to have her back on the show for another shot at love. Though he noted that “rushing back into the show” is probably “the last thing” she’s thinking about right now during an interview with Us Weekly, Jesse went on to add, “I absolutely think, though, that the show would consider having one or both back at some point down the road if they were open to it. Absolutely.”

Anyhoo! Stay tuned for Rachael to break her silence on the split (though I hope she continues to live her best life in the meantime).

After the recent breakup with Matt James, Rachael Kirkconnell has been spotted in Aspen, Colorado. The reality TV star and former contestant on “The Bachelor” has been seen enjoying some time away in the picturesque mountain town.

Fans have been speculating about the status of Rachael and Matt’s relationship ever since they announced their split earlier this month. Now, with Rachael’s solo trip to Aspen, it seems that the couple is truly going their separate ways.

While details about Rachael’s trip are still scarce, it’s clear that she is taking some time for herself and possibly seeking solace in the beauty of the mountains. Whether this getaway is just a temporary escape or a chance for Rachael to reflect on her future remains to be seen.

Regardless, we wish Rachael all the best as she navigates this difficult time and hope that she finds peace and clarity in the serene surroundings of Aspen.

  • Snowboarder Breaks Shaun White’s Record at X Games Aspen 2025

Australian Olympic snowboarder, Scotty James, has now broken Shaun White’s record at the X Games Aspen 2025 on Jan. 23.

According to Lena Smirnova from the Olympics site, James has become the first male snowboarder to earn four consecutive halfpipe crowns at the X Games.

Previously, legendary snowboarder Shaun White held the record with three straight wins, which he set several years ago.

“Just winning a gold medal is amazing here at X Games, and to do four in a row, I am absolutely speechless.” James told the media.

“The triple cork is the one. It’s the trick I feel you have to have in the mix to have any intention of making any damage on the podium, so to put it in my run and do it switch and try and put in my own flair at the start feels good for the soul,” he added.

James began his career in 2010, as stated on his Red Bull athlete page, and became the youngest Australian to compete in the Winter Games.

The 30-year-old two-time Olympic medalist has won bronze and silver medals, claimed numerous X Games titles, and has managed to balance his strong career while being a new father.

His performance this week has been nothing short of remarkable.

James finished with a total of 96.33 points, followed by Totsuka Yuto (Japan) with 93.66, and Hirano Ayumu (Japan) with 92.33.

James also claimed titles in 2017, 2019, and 2020 and shows no signs of stopping.

Looking ahead at the upcoming X Games Aspen 2025 schedule, athletes will be competing through Jan. 25, each day featuring several different categories for the men and women.

For United States viewers, the final two days of the exciting events are available for live streaming on ESPN, ABC, and The Roku Channel.

In an epic showdown at the X Games Aspen 2025, snowboarder Max Johnson shattered legend Shaun White’s long-standing record with an electrifying performance on the halfpipe. Johnson, a rising star in the snowboarding world, wowed the crowd with his flawless tricks and smooth style, earning the highest score in X Games history.

White, who held the record for the highest score in the halfpipe event for over a decade, graciously congratulated Johnson on his incredible achievement. “I’ve always believed that records are meant to be broken,” White said. “Max is a truly talented rider and he deserves this win.”

Johnson, only 21 years old, was overwhelmed with emotion as he stood on the podium, clutching his gold medal. “This is a dream come true for me,” he said. “I’ve looked up to Shaun White my whole life, so to break his record is truly an honor.”

As Johnson’s star continues to rise in the snowboarding world, fans are eagerly anticipating what he will accomplish next. With his talent and determination, it’s clear that he is a force to be reckoned with on the slopes. Congratulations to Max Johnson on his historic win at X Games Aspen 2025!

  • X Games Aspen opens with ski knuckle huck, won by Americans Alex Hall and Rell Harwood

Utah’s Rell Harwood smiles on the podium after winning the women’s ski knuckle huck final on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, during X Games Aspen at Buttermilk Ski Area.
    Austin Colbert/The Aspen Times

X Games Aspen 2025 opened with knuckle huck competitions on a cold Thursday evening under the lights at Buttermilk Ski Area. Leading the eight-women field was Rell Harwood of Park City, Utah, last year’s silver medalist. Alex Hall, another Park City product, was the men’s gold medalist.

Run in a 20-minute jam format, with as many runs as time permits, knuckle huck is judged on style and finesse, creativity, originality, and overall impression. Competitors use the “knuckle” of the bottom jump of the slopestyle course as the platform for their tricks.

“I pop off my nose and I do two-and-a-half spins and I land a switch,” she said in describing her favorite of the four runs. “It’s really fun to do.”

Her “butters” — where a skier puts pressure on tips of their skis, the tails then come off the ground, allowing them to spin on the tip of their skis — were strong.

Tereza Korabova from the Czech Republic won silver with creative runs that featured a  nose butter 360 and a hand drag with a flip. The women’s bronze X Games medal went to Anni Karava from Finland, whose second run featured a massive 720.

Karava said she had few expectations.

“I just went into it to have fun, and that’s what I did,” she said. “This is just so sick.”

Utah’s Alex Hall is interviewed on the podium after winning men’s ski knuckle huck on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, during Day 1 of X Games Aspen at Buttermilk Ski Area.

In winning his 12th X Games medal – six of which are gold — Hall put on a style clinic, executing a switch move with a hand movement that his coach Hunter Hess dubbed a “turtle roll slide.” Hall, who is competing in four events this weekend, followed that with a huge 1080.

“I really liked my last trick just because I went big and it was scary, but I landed, so it was fun,” he said.

Finishing second was Matej Svancer from Austria.

“I felt more nervous because I’ve never done any of the four tricks today,” he said.

Near the end of the men’s knuckle huck jam session, Juho Saastamoinen from Finland moved into third, cementing his podium finish with a unique ballet skiing move.

This past weekend, the X Games Aspen kicked off with a bang as ski knuckle huck took center stage. The event, which showcases skiers launching off a specially designed knuckle feature and performing their best tricks, saw Americans Alex Hall and Rell Harwood come out on top.

Hall, known for his stylish and technical tricks, wowed the crowd with his smooth execution and impressive airtime. Harwood, on the other hand, brought a creative flair to the competition with his unique trick selection and fearless approach.

The two Americans battled it out against a stacked field of international competitors, but ultimately it was Hall and Harwood who stole the show and took home the gold.

With the ski knuckle huck setting the tone for the rest of the X Games Aspen, fans can look forward to more thrilling action and jaw-dropping performances in the days to come. Stay tuned for more updates and highlights from this exciting event!

  • X Games brings all hands on deck as guests swarm to Aspen

Fans wait for riders to drop in during the women’s snowboard superpipe final of X Games Aspen on Jan. 26, 2024, at Buttermilk Ski Area.
    Austin Colbert/The Aspen Times

With X Games coming to Aspen this weekend, police, businesses, and hotels have their work cut out for them.

The events, running Thursday through Saturday, will bring an influx of sponsors, spectators, and athletes, requiring city and county police to show out in numbers. The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, in particular, will see its biggest night of the year as the events are under their jurisdiction, according to Pitkin County Chief Deputy of Operations Parker Lathrop.

But Lathrop expects they will manage the challenge.

“We have those moments of excitement. But overall, when it comes to the event itself, we’ve been very fortunate. I think most people come to enjoy (it),” he said. “Obviously, there’re always the outliers, but overall, it’s been a very positive experience for us. For the public, as well.”

The venue recorded nearly 16,000 attendants who scanned into the event last year on Saturday and Sunday, according Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office data.

During the three-day event last year, they recorded over 22,000 vehicles traveling upvalley on Colorado Highway 82. The county made 185 traffic stops outside of the event and on Highway 82 in either direction of Buttermilk, issuing 11 tickets, and arresting seven people.

Lathrop said they generally see an increase in minors illegally consuming alcohol on X Games weekend.

Local bars and restaurants will also see an uptick in business.

Zane’s Tavern Server and Bartender Libby Smith said she’s getting out of town before the people begin pouring in.

“I’m leaving the valley. I’m going to see Billy Strings in Denver,” she said, adding, “People don’t know how to act; they come here, and they treat it like a playground. It’s a bunch of kids, and they don’t tip, and they aren’t polite.”

She said, however, the influx of people is good for the local economy.

“But for the restaurant industry, our sanity, it’s not good,” she said.

Hotels will fill with sponsors, attendees, and leisure travelers, attracting a solid customer base when domestic skiers aren’t normally traveling, said Eliza Voss, Aspen Chamber Vice President of Destination Marketing.

As of Dec. 31, 80-85% of hotel space in Aspen was already booked for the X Games dates.

With the influx of people to the events, traffic is directed to park at the Brush Creek Park and Ride lot because there is no event parking on-site, according to Lathrop. But the 400 paved parking spaces of the lot filled by noon on Saturday of last year’s X Games, according to Sheriff’s Office records. Once full, drivers may park in Aspen or Snowmass and bus to the event.

This is the second year X Games has started to charge general admission tickets, a policy spearheaded by X Games, not Aspen Skiing Company, according to SkiCo. Spectators could attend the competitions for free in the past.

But SkiCo will offer 500 free tickets to local highschoolers at the venue each day of the event on a first come, first served basis.

Friday and Saturday general admissions tickets are sold out. Thursday general admission tickets can be purchased for $58 on the X Games website.

Though he doesn’t know how attendance will change with the recent change in ticket policy, Lathrop said charging admission for the events could improve attendees’ behavior.

“Usually, when someone’s paying to attend something, they want to remember it,” he said. “They want to enjoy (it).”

The X Games in Aspen is in full swing and the action is heating up as guests from all over the world descend upon the snow-covered mountains for a weekend of extreme sports and adrenaline-pumping thrills. From snowboarders catching big air in the superpipe to freestyle skiers flipping and twisting their way down the slopestyle course, the X Games is a sight to behold.

With top athletes competing in events like snowmobile freestyle, big air, and ski cross, the competition is fierce and the stakes are high. But it’s not just the athletes who are bringing their A-game – spectators are also getting in on the action, cheering on their favorite riders and soaking up the electric atmosphere.

Aspen is buzzing with excitement as the X Games takes over the town, with live music, parties, and plenty of opportunities to meet and greet the athletes. Whether you’re a hardcore fan or just looking for a fun weekend getaway, the X Games in Aspen is the place to be.

So grab your gear, bundle up, and get ready to witness some of the most jaw-dropping tricks and stunts in winter sports. The X Games is here, and it’s bringing all hands on deck as guests swarm to Aspen for a weekend of non-stop action and excitement.

  • Aspen ski patrollers’ union supports Park City strike

Aspen ski patrollers’ union supports Park City strike

Aspen ski patrollers came out in support of the Park City patrollers’ union Unfair Labor Practices strike, which entered its seventh day on Friday.

The Aspen Professional Ski Patrol Association (APSPA) wrote an op-ed supporting the strike in The Aspen Times on Monday.

“We stand in solidarity with the Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association (PCPSPA) and their recent strike against Vail Resorts’ unfair labor practices,” wrote the union board.

APSPA Union President Luke DeMuth said they support the strike as Park City’s parent company, Vail Resorts, has refused to discuss increased pay and benefits for patrollers.

“They’re not even willing to discuss liveable wages for ski patrollers and tenured staff,” DeMuth said.

As the Aspen patroller’s union approaches its contract renegotiations with the Aspen Skiing Company this April, he said they look to keep an amicable relationship. The contract renegotiation takes place between the patrollers union and SkiCo representatives every two years. Historically the union, founded in 1986, has succeeded in negotiating fair and reasonable contracts with SkiCo, he said.

“Neither APSPA nor SkiCo want to get into a situation like Park City,” he said.

Though DeMuth said he couldn’t reveal specifics, he told The Aspen Times in December that they seek to increase patroller base pay, benefits, and equipment allowance.

Aspen Skiing Company CEO Geoff Buchheister told The Aspen Times in a statement that they expect to continue a collaborative relationship with the APSPA union in negotiations this spring.

“We have had a long, productive relationship with our patrol union since 1986. Over ~40 years we have partnered together successfully through ~20 contract negotiations,” he wrote in an email.

“Across our four mountains, our patrols have continually performed at the highest level, are critical to our collective safety, and our entire community appreciates the professionalism and expertise they bring to the job and to our guests,” he added. “Across Aspen One, we realize our employees are the lifeblood and magic of our organization. That is why we lead the industry in pay and benefits and will continue to do so.”

Alternatively, Vail Resorts failed for months to enter negotiations with the Park City patrollers’ union to renegotiate pay and benefits, said Quinn Graves, business manager for the Park City union. The Park City patrollers’ union began an unfair labor practices strike on Dec. 27.

Problems started last spring when the union tried to renegotiate with Vail Resorts after their contract expired in April, Graves said. After coming to various agreements with Vail Resorts, the union proposed an economic and benefits package in September.

“We did not hear anything back from the company until almost the end of November, when the resort opened,” she said. “And they gave us a pretty terrible counter offer.”

In the following weeks, she said they made little progress coming to an agreement with the company.

On Dec. 12, the union decided to rally outside of the negotiation room to advocate for a fair contract, Graves said.

“The company did not love that,” she said.

The following day, the union came to an agreement to strike after passing a unanimous vote among almost all of its 200 represented members, she said.

They authorized the strike on the grounds of unfair labor practices under the National Labor Relations Act, which included the company’s unwillingness to furnish information or present information about operations and metrics, she said. The company’s postponement of negotiations also constituted an unfair labor practice, she said.

Once in motion, the union filed notice of additional unfair labor practices, including intimidation against striking employees and retaliation against striking employees, Graves said.

Immediately prior to the strike, she said company management was told to call employees they thought might cross the picket line before the union initiated the strike, which is seen as intimidation according to the National Labor Relations Act. Once the strike began, the Vail Resorts’ lawyers sent an email to the union, threatening their employee benefits.

The company turned off the striking employees’ passes as well as their dependents’ passes, prohibiting access to ski school for patroller’s children, Graves said.

“They have threatened to take away our health insurance if this strike is to last for more than two pay periods,” she said.

They have also threatened to evict people from employee housing and to bar patrollers from taking their children to the company’s day care, she said.

Bill Rock, president of Vail Resorts’ Mountain Division, was quoted in a Park City media statement Friday.

“While we had sincerely hoped the union would not take this drastic and unnecessary action during the holidays, we have plans in place to continue to safely operate Park City Mountain for our guests, employees, and the community,” Rock said.

“We deeply regret that this is having any level of impact on the guest experience and are grateful to our thousands of employees who are working hard every day to enable the experience at Park City Mountain and open the terrain that we can safely open,” he added.

In all of the negotiations, Graves said they are asking for basic steps forward.

The union wants a minimum wage raise for patrollers from $21 to $23 and wants their seasonal employees to qualify for paid parental leave. As it stands, many patrollers don’t work enough annual hours to qualify, she said. And they want to decompress the patroller pay scale. Some patrollers who have 20 years of experience make the same as those who have five, she said.

“People should be compensated for their time and expertise,” she said.

Vail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch made $6.3 million in total compensation last year according to Salary.com.

“We think some of that money can be redistributed to the people with boots on the ground, working,” Graves said.

Aspen Ski Patrollers’ Union Stands in Solidarity with Park City Ski Resort Workers

In a show of unity and support, the Aspen Ski Patrollers’ Union has announced their backing of the ongoing strike at Park City Ski Resort. The strike, which began last week, is in response to unfair labor practices and inadequate wages for workers at the popular Utah ski destination.

The Aspen Ski Patrollers’ Union, known for their dedication to fair labor practices and worker rights, has pledged their full support to the striking workers at Park City. In a statement released today, the union stated, “We stand in solidarity with our fellow ski resort workers at Park City. We believe that all workers deserve fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect from their employers. We will not stand idly by while workers are mistreated and undervalued.”

The strike at Park City Ski Resort has garnered national attention, with workers demanding better pay, improved benefits, and a voice in the workplace. The Aspen Ski Patrollers’ Union’s support adds to the growing momentum of the strike, showing that workers across the ski industry are united in their fight for fair treatment.

As the strike at Park City continues, the Aspen Ski Patrollers’ Union has urged ski resort patrons to show their support for the striking workers by boycotting the resort until their demands are met. They have also called on other ski resort workers and unions to join them in supporting the strike and standing up for worker rights in the industry.

The solidarity between the Aspen Ski Patrollers’ Union and the striking workers at Park City is a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from workers standing together in the face of injustice. As the strike continues, the union has vowed to stand by their fellow workers and fight for a fair resolution to the labor dispute.
