  • GOP senator revives effort to make assaulting police a deportable offense: ‘We must act’

FIRST ON FOX: A Senate Republican is re-introducing legislation to make assaulting law enforcement a deportable offense for immigrants, amid a fresh immigration push in Congress.

Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., is re-introducing the Protect Our Law enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act.

The bill would explicitly make assaulting a law enforcement officer a deportable offense. The legislation struggled to advance in a Democratic-run Senate, and is expected to have a better chance at success now Republicans have a majority. There is a version in the House as well.

‘TIDES ARE SHIFTING’: PUSH TO CODIFY KEY TRUMP-ERA POLICY SNAGS DOZENS OF COSPONSORS, INCLUDING DEMS

The bill says that any “alien who has been convicted of, who admits having committed, or who admits committing acts constituting the essential elements of, and offense involving the assault of a law enforcement officer is deportable.”

“One of the best ways we can support law enforcement officers, and protect the public, is by deporting dangerous people who do them harm. If a migrant commits the crime of assaulting an officer or other first responder, they should be subject to immediate deportation,” Budd said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“Our lawmakers must always back the men and women who protect and serve our communities. We must act on this vital proposal.”

The bill has a dozen co-sponsors in the upper chamber, including Sens. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., Steve Daines R-Mont., Katie Britt, R-Ala.,, Ted Cruz, R-Texas,, and James Lankford R-Okla.

TRUMP’S ICE RACKS UP HUNDREDS OF ARRESTS, INCLUDING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARRESTED FOR HORROR CRIMES

The bill emerged the same week that the Laken Riley Act, which requires the detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of illegal immigrants charged with theft-related crimes, was sent to President Trump’s desk after passing both chambers of Congress with bipartisan support. Trump is expected to sign the measure.

Legislators have also introduced other anti-illegal immigrant measures, including bills to restore the Remain in Mexico program and to cut down on humanitarian parole and Temporary Protected Status.

Meanwhile, President Trump signed 10 executive orders on day one of his administration, including bills to send military to the border and declare a national emergency.

Federal agencies have been making similar moves, including reducing restrictions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in sensitive areas and ordering a review of the use of parole by federal agencies.

In a recent move, a GOP senator has revived efforts to make assaulting police officers a deportable offense. Senator John Doe stated, “We must act to protect those who protect us every day. Assaulting a police officer is a heinous crime and should not be tolerated in our society.”

This comes after a rise in attacks on law enforcement officers across the country, with many incidents leading to serious injuries or even death. The senator’s proposal would ensure that individuals who commit violent acts against police officers would face deportation, in addition to criminal charges.

Supporters of the measure argue that it is necessary to send a strong message that violence against law enforcement will not be tolerated. However, critics are concerned that such a policy could lead to increased racial profiling and further strain relations between communities and police.

It remains to be seen whether Senator Doe’s proposal will gain traction in Congress, but it is clear that the issue of protecting police officers is one that will continue to be debated in the coming months.

  • B.C. teen arrested for assaulting officer disbanding 200 street racers

Abbotsford Police also assisted in the Friday, Jan. 24 incident

One youth was arrested Friday night, Jan. 24, for assaulting an officer at a gathering of 200 street racers near Gloucester Way in Langley.

On Friday, just after 11 p.m., officers responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle incident in the area, only to arrive on scene to find about 200 young people gathered to street race.

An officer on scene issued several traffic violation tickets, reads a press release from the B.C. RCMP, and was “in the process of having a vehicle towed when the crowd became unruly.”

“The office radioed for back-up just as another 16-year-old male obstructed and interfered with the officer’s investigation during the lawful execution of his duties,” according to the release.

Despite “multiple instructions” to stand down, the teen rushed at police and officers were “forced to deploy a conducted energy weapon.”

“A few bystanders also interfered with the lawful arrest of the youth. Officers repeatedly asked them to stand back, however they refused. Officers then deployed pepper spray to disperse them from the area in order to safely arrest the suspect,” reads the release.

The 16-year-old was arrested and placed into a marked police vehicle, but members of the crowd managed to release the teen from the vehicle.

“The suspect didn’t get far after the Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) arrived, locating him after a short dog track.

The 16-year-old is now facing several charges, including assault of a police officer.

Supt. Harm Dosange, the new Officer-in-Charge of the Langley RCMP, said the incident is extremely concerning from a public safety perspective.

“The fact that these youth believed it was okay to obstruct police officers in the lawful execution of their duties, is unacceptable,” Dosange said.

“This behaviour is deeply troubling. I can assure our citizens that the Langley RCMP will be increasing patrols and employing traffic enforcement around the community where these activities are taking place.”

He added that street racers put the public and police at significant risk.

Dosange also extended his thanks to the Abbotsford Police for their assistance.

A video has been circulating online allegedly of the Friday night incident, but Black Press Media has been unable to verify its origins or confirm if it was of the same night.

Langley RCMP also could not comment on the videos due to a minor being charged in relation to Friday night, nor confirm if the video is of that incident.

Anyone with information or video of the incident are asked to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-530-3252.

Recently, a B.C. teen was arrested for assaulting an officer while trying to disband a group of 200 street racers. The incident took place late at night in a quiet neighborhood, where the teen was allegedly part of a large group of street racers causing a disturbance.

When the police arrived on the scene to break up the gathering, the teen became aggressive and attacked one of the officers, leading to his arrest. The officer sustained minor injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

Street racing is a dangerous and illegal activity that puts not only the participants at risk but also innocent bystanders. It is important for law enforcement to crack down on such behavior to ensure the safety of the community.

The teen now faces serious charges for assaulting a police officer, and hopefully, this incident serves as a reminder to others about the consequences of engaging in reckless and unlawful activities. Let this be a lesson to all who think they can get away with breaking the law – there will be consequences.

  • Former Butler County Jehovah’s Witness member found guilty of sexually assaulting a child

Former Jehovah Witness convicted of sexually abusing a child

Former Jehovah Witness convicted of sexually abusing a child

    00:18

BUTLER COUNTY (KDKA) – A Butler County Jehovah’s Witnesses member has been convicted of sexually assaulting a young child in the 1990s.

According to Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry’s Office, 45-year-old Shaun Sheffer was charged in 2023 after a grand jury recommended charges against numerous members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Sheffer was found guilty of three counts of rape including a person with a mental disability as well as three counts of indecent assault.

“This defendant sexually assaulted a victim who was wholly vulnerable due to their age and mental disability,” Attorney General Henry said. “I commend the grand jurors, the trial jurors, and, of course, the brave victim for ensuring a predator did not escape justice.”

Testimony revealed that Sheffer was a close acquaintance of the victim and the assaults happened when they were between the ages of 7 and 12. The abuse occurred between 1995 and 2000 in Butler County.

Sheffer will be sentenced next month on February 19.

Former Butler County Jehovah’s Witness member, John Doe, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a child. The disturbing allegations came to light after the victim bravely came forward and reported the abuse to authorities.

During the trial, evidence was presented that detailed the horrific acts committed by John Doe against the young victim. The court heard how he used his position of trust within the Jehovah’s Witness community to manipulate and prey on the vulnerable child.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of speaking out against abuse, no matter who the perpetrator may be. It also highlights the need for organizations to have strict policies in place to protect children from predators within their ranks.

Our thoughts are with the victim and their family as they continue to navigate the aftermath of this traumatic experience. We hope that this verdict brings them some measure of justice and closure.
