Lions hiring Broncos passing game assistant John Morton as new offensive coordinator
Johnson was hired as the Bears’ head coach on Jan. 21, leaving behind an offense that was top five in points and yards in each of Johnson’s three seasons as offensive coordinator. In 2024, Detroit boasted the No. 1 scoring offense and the No. 2 unit in total yards.
Though it’s a tough act to follow, Morton will find a cornucopia of talent such as offensive tackle Penei Sewell, running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams and quarterback Jared Goff.
Morton heads back to Motown with plenty of experience.
He began his days in the NFL with the then-Oakland Raiders in 2002 as an offensive assistant. He later took on the same role with the New Orleans Saints under Sean Payton, spent four seasons as USC’s offensive coordinator, was with the San Francisco 49ers and Saints as a wide receivers coach and then became the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator in 2017. He returned to the Raiders as a senior offensive assistant after that. Following his stint with Campbell in ’22, Morton has been with Payton and the Broncos the past two seasons.
After a stunning Divisional Round loss to the Washington Commanders, Campbell and the Lions lost both their coordinators — Johnson to the Bears and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to the New York Jets.
They’ve moved just as quickly, though, promoting Kelvin Sheppard to DC and hiring Morton to take on the offensive reins.
The Detroit Lions have made a key addition to their coaching staff, hiring John Morton from the Denver Broncos as their new offensive coordinator. Morton, who has spent the last two seasons as a passing game assistant with the Broncos, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Lions’ offense.Morton’s resume includes stints as an offensive coordinator with the New York Jets and an assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints. He is known for his innovative play-calling and ability to develop young quarterbacks, making him an ideal candidate to lead the Lions’ offense.
With a talented roster that includes quarterback Jared Goff and star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, Morton will have plenty of weapons at his disposal to help turn around the Lions’ offense. Fans can expect to see a more dynamic and explosive offense under Morton’s leadership, as he looks to bring a new energy and creativity to Detroit.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell expressed his excitement about the hiring, stating, “John is a proven offensive mind who has a track record of success in this league. We believe he is the perfect fit to lead our offense and help us take the next step as a team. We are thrilled to have him on board and can’t wait to see what he brings to the table.”
With Morton now in place as the Lions’ offensive coordinator, Detroit fans can look forward to an exciting and high-powered offense in the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates as Morton begins to implement his vision for the team.

Building Toward a Smarter, More Personalized Assistant
While Meta AI is on track to become the most used AI assistant, our vision is to make it one of the most personalized AI assistant experiences ever created. One of the areas we’re starting to focus on is new features that provide information and recommendations tailored to individuals.
Memory Boost
At the close of last year, we began to gradually roll out a new feature that lets Meta AI remember certain details that you share with it in 1:1 chats on WhatsApp and Messenger, which may help it personalize future responses so they’re more useful and relevant to you.
You can tell Meta AI to remember certain things about you (like that you love to travel and learn new language), and it can also pick up important details based on context. For example, let’s say you’re hungry for breakfast and ask Meta AI for some ideas. It suggests an omelette or a fancy frittata, and you respond in the chat to let Meta AI know that you’re a vegan. Meta AI can remember that information and use it to inform future recipe recommendations.
We’re rolling this out to Meta AI on Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp for iOS and Android in the US and Canada. Meta AI will only remember certain things you tell it in 1:1 conversations (not group chats), and you can delete its memories at any time.
A More Personal Touch
We’re also rolling out a greater level of personalization for Meta AI on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. Delivering great content recommendations is an important part of what makes Facebook and Instagram valuable for people around the globe – and it’s been driven by AI for a while. Now, we’re extending this level of personalization to Meta AI so that your assistant can respond with information that’s relevant for you.
Let’s say you’re looking for something fun to do with your family this weekend and you ask Meta AI to suggest something. Based on the home location you’ve listed as part of your Facebook profile, recent views of reels featuring live performances by various country artists and its memory that you have a partner and two young kids, Meta AI might suggest tickets for that weekend’s country music show at your local arena and reservations at a local brunch spot.
We’re rolling out this feature on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram in the US and Canada.
We regularly introduce new features for all of our products to find out what works and what doesn’t for our communities. With today’s news, we’re excited to bring more personalization to the Meta AI experience.
In today’s fast-paced world, technology plays a crucial role in simplifying our daily tasks and improving our overall efficiency. One area where significant advancements have been made is in the development of virtual assistants.Virtual assistants, such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant, have become an integral part of our lives, helping us with everything from setting reminders to answering questions and even controlling our smart home devices. However, as technology continues to evolve, there is a growing demand for a smarter, more personalized assistant that can truly understand and anticipate our needs.
Building toward a smarter, more personalized assistant involves harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to create a virtual assistant that can adapt and learn from our behavior over time. This means that the assistant can not only respond to our commands but also proactively suggest solutions and provide recommendations based on our preferences and habits.
Imagine having an assistant that knows your schedule, your favorite restaurants, and even your preferred mode of transportation. This assistant could help you plan your day, make reservations, and even order your favorite meal without you having to lift a finger. With advancements in natural language processing and voice recognition technology, interacting with this assistant would feel more like having a conversation with a knowledgeable friend rather than issuing commands to a machine.
As we continue to push the boundaries of technology, the possibilities for a smarter, more personalized assistant are endless. From helping us manage our health and fitness goals to providing personalized recommendations for entertainment and travel, this assistant could truly revolutionize the way we live our lives.
In conclusion, building toward a smarter, more personalized assistant is not just a goal but a necessity in today’s digital age. By leveraging the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning, we can create a virtual assistant that is truly tailored to our individual needs and preferences, making our lives easier, more efficient, and ultimately more enjoyable.

After a season filled with weekly blunders on special teams, the 49ers have a new person in charge.
The 49ers on Monday hired former New York Jets assistant coach Brant Boyer as special teams coordinator.
Boyer replaces Brian Schneider, who served as 49ers’ special teams coordinator for the past three seasons. Schneider was fired the day after the 49ers finished the regular season with a 6-11 record.
“I do think it’s an avenue we can get better in,” Shanahan said following the season.
“Special teams is a part of football, and everything a part of football is extremely important to us.”
Boyer, 53, played 10 seasons in the NFL as a linebacker and core special teams player from 1994 to 2003 with Miami, Jacksonville and Cleveland.
He served as the Jets’ special teams coordinator since 2016 under Todd Bowles, Adam Gase, Robert Saleh and interim coach Jeff Ulbrich. Boyer also worked four seasons as an assistant special teams coach with the Indianapolis Colts.
Coach Kyle Shanahan now has filled the two major coaching vacancies on his staff.
The 49ers on Friday hired Saleh as defensive coordinator to replace Nick Sorensen, who was fired after one season on the job.
Saleh, who previously worked for the 49ers from 2016 to 2020, becomes the fourth defensive coordinator in four seasons for the 49ers. DeMeco Ryans ran the defense in 2021 and ’22, followed by Steve Wilks (2023) and Sorensen (2024).
Initially, Shanahan expressed interest in retaining Sorensen on his coaching staff. However, Sorensen will not be back with the 49ers in 2025, a source told NBC Sports Bay Area.
Also, defensive assistant Brandon Staley is not expected to be back with the 49ers in 2025. Staley, the former head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, held the role of assistant head coach/defense last season.

The San Francisco 49ers have made a key addition to their coaching staff, hiring former New York Jets assistant Brant Boyer as their new special teams coordinator. Boyer brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, having spent the past six seasons with the Jets.During his time in New York, Boyer helped develop one of the top special teams units in the league. Under his guidance, the Jets consistently ranked among the best in the NFL in various special teams categories, including kick and punt return average, field goal percentage, and punt coverage.
Boyer’s expertise and leadership will be invaluable to the 49ers as they look to improve their special teams play and make a run at the playoffs next season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are confident that Boyer’s addition will have a positive impact on the team and help them take their special teams to the next level.
Fans can expect to see a more disciplined and effective special teams unit under Boyer’s direction, as he brings a strong work ethic and attention to detail to his coaching style. With Boyer on board, the 49ers are poised to have one of the top special teams units in the league in the upcoming season.
Stay tuned for more updates on the 49ers’ coaching staff and their preparations for the 2021 season. With Boyer leading the way on special teams, the team is sure to be in good hands.

The Patriots continue to bolster their offensive coaching staff, and their latest hiring is an impressive one.
New England is hiring Thomas Brown as its tight ends coach/pass game coordinator, as first reported by MassLive’s Mark Daniels. Both ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero confirmed Daniels’ report.
Brown interviewed for the Patriots offensive coordinator job, which went to veteran play-caller Josh McDaniels.
Brown served on the Chicago Bears staff in 2024 where he was hired as a pass-game coordinator before he was elevated to interim offensive coordinator and interim head coach. Brown’s elevations followed the firings of Bears offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Nov. 12 and Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus two weeks later.
Prior to his stint in Chicago, Brown worked for the Carolina Panthers in 2023. He was hired as the Panthers offensive coordinator under then-head coach Frank Reich, another respected offensive mind. When Reich was fired in late November, Brown took over play-calling duties.

Brown got his start under Rams head coach Sean McVay when he served as a running backs coach. He was promoted to assistant head coach and tight ends coach in his third season with the team.
Brown’s arrival means the Patriots have another experienced offensive assistant, and someone who’s coached in multiple offensive systems like McVay’s West Coast scheme.
The New England Patriots have reportedly added a respected offensive assistant to their coaching staff in the form of Mike Vrabel. Vrabel, who previously served as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, is known for his innovative offensive schemes and ability to develop young talent. This move comes as the Patriots look to bolster their coaching staff and revamp their offensive game plan for the upcoming season. Vrabel’s experience and knowledge of the game are sure to be valuable assets to the team as they aim to make a deep playoff run.
Fans are excited to see what Vrabel can bring to the Patriots’ offense and are hopeful that his hiring will lead to an improved performance on the field. With Vrabel on board, the Patriots are poised to be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season.

After losing Aaron Glenn and Terrell Williams, the Detroit Lions have holes to fill on their defensive staff and are reportedly going shopping in Central Florida.
The Lions are expected to interview Buccaneers inside linebackers coach and former Michigan standout Larry Foote for their vacant defensive coordinator role.
The news was first reported by Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz.
Several hours prior, the Lions agreed to terms with Tampa Bay Buccaneers run game coordinator and defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers to fill their vacant defensive line coach position, left by Williams departing for the DC role with the New England Patriots.
RELATED: Report: Lions hire Buccaneers assistant as new DL coach
The 44-year-old Foote has spent the last six seasons in Tampa Bay, serving under Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles respective staffs as outside linebackers coach (2019-2021) and pass game coordinator & inside linebackers coach (2022-present).
Before heading to Tampa Bay, Foote worked on Arians’ staff with the Arizona Cardinals as assistant linebackers coach in 2015 before being promoted to linebackers coach in 2016.
If the Lions hire Foote, it would not only be a homecoming for the Detroit native but also a return to the franchise.
Foote played one season for the Lions in 2009, recording 99 tackles — 11 for loss — four quarterback hits, four pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
“Being from Detroit and playing a year there, that stadium was a special place,” Foote said in a press conference last September ahead the Lions-Buccaneers Week 2 matchup. “I’m looking forward to going back there and being in that environment.”
RELATED: Larry Foote returns to Detroit with respect for his hometown team
According to Rick Stroud, Buccaneers beat writer for the Tampa Bay Times, Foote’s contract has expired, and the franchise had intended to bring him back.
Foote was a standout linebacker during his time at the University of Michigan from 1999 to 2001. In the NFL, he was a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers. If he lands in Detroit, he would also reunite with former Steelers teammate Antwaan Randle El, who serves as the Lions’ wide receivers coach.
Foote is the first reported interview for the Lions’ defensive coordinator vacancy since Aaron Glenn left the role to become the New York Jets’ new head coach.

Lions have lost five assistant coaches this week
After the Lions blew a 17-point halftime lead in the NFC Championship last year, coach Dan Campbell told the players, “This may have been our only shot.”
A year later, after exiting the playoffs without even getting back to the conference title game, the Lions have real work to do in order to keep Campbell’s prophecy from being fulfilled.
As noted by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions have lost five assistant coaches in the six days since losing at home in the divisional round to the Commanders.
Gone are offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, defensive line coach Terrell Williams, receivers coach Antwaan Randle El, and assistant quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett.
More could eventually go. All will have to be replaced.
Fortunately for the Lions, they had a year to prepare for the potential promotions earned by Johnson and Glenn. The Lions surely won’t wander into the challenge of reloading the coaching staff unprepared.
But things will be very different in 2025. Will they be better? Will they be as good?
The roster still has plenty of talent. Bad luck on the injury front went a long way toward derailing what seemed to be destiny. Still, a franchise that waited decades to become a top dog now must deal with the growing pains associated with contending at a high level.
They have 22 players due to become unrestricted free agents. Other teams — starting with Johnson’s Bears and Glenn’s Jets — could be targeting more than a few of them.
Regardless, the Lions still have quarterback Jared Goff, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, receiver Jameson Williams, running back David Montgomery, tight end Sam LaPorta, and four of the five starting offensive linemen under contract. And defensive end Aidan Hutchinson will return to anchor a defense that, if healthy, should be better than it was in 2024.
Building the current team was harder than maintaining it will be. But maintaining the roster and reshaping the coaching staff become the biggest challenges for a 15-2 team that needed until Week 18 to win the division and then went one-and-out in the postseason.
Add a schedule that includes 11 games against 2024 playoff teams (Vikings twice, Packers twice, Steelers, Buccaneers, at Eagles, at Commanders, at Ravens, at Chiefs, at Rams), two games against Johnson’s Bears, and a trip to Cincinnati, and the 2025 will be a much different experience for the Lions. The overriding question will be whether the next postseason will have a different ending.
The first big hurdle will be getting there.
The Detroit Lions have been hit with a wave of departures this week as five assistant coaches have decided to part ways with the team. This sudden exodus has left many fans wondering what is going on behind the scenes and what impact it will have on the upcoming season.Among the departing coaches are the offensive coordinator, defensive line coach, and special teams coordinator, all of whom played key roles in the team’s strategies and game planning. Their absence will undoubtedly be felt as the Lions look to bounce back from a disappointing season.
The reasons for the departures have not been made clear, but rumors of disagreements with the coaching staff and front office have been circulating. It remains to be seen how the Lions will fill these vacancies and whether the team will be able to maintain continuity and success moving forward.
As fans anxiously await news of new hires and adjustments to the coaching staff, one thing is certain: the Lions will have their work cut out for them as they navigate this unexpected shakeup. Stay tuned for updates on how the team plans to move forward in the wake of these significant losses.

Bears adding Antwaan Randle El as assistant HC, WRs coach
New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is busy filling out his coaching staff, which will be just as important as the organization landing Johnson to lead the charge.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears are finalizing a deal to make former Detroit Lions wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El their new assistant head coach and receivers coach, which is a big get for Chicago.
After initial reports that the Bears were going to land Hank Fraley as their offensive coordinator, the Lions offensive line coach is staying in Detroit. But Johnson still managed to snag a Lions assistant coach and bring him to Chicago.
Randle El, who grew up in the Chicagoland area, played nine years as a wide receiver in the NFL, including most notably with the Pittsburgh Steelers (where he won a Super Bowl). He got his start in the coaching ranks as an offensive assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019-20). Randle El then joined Dan Campbell’s coaching staff as Lions receivers coach (2021-24).
During the last four seasons, Randle El has worked with the likes of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Tim Patrick and Kalif Raymond. Now, Randle El will get to work with a pair of studs in DJ Moore and Rome Odunze.
This will mark the second hire for Johnson after the Bears have agreed to terms with Al Harris for their pass game coordinator, according to DallasCowboys.com.
This article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Bears adding Antwaan Randle El as assistant HC, WRs coach
The Chicago Bears have made a big move in their coaching staff, adding former NFL wide receiver Antwaan Randle El as their new assistant head coach and wide receivers coach. Randle El brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played 9 seasons in the league and winning a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His knowledge of the game and his ability to develop young receivers will be a huge asset to the Bears as they look to improve their passing game and take their offense to the next level. Head coach Matt Nagy is excited to have Randle El on board, stating that he is a perfect fit for the team and will bring a new perspective to the coaching staff.
With Randle El’s addition, the Bears are hoping to see a significant improvement in their wide receiver play and overall offensive production. Fans are eager to see what impact he will have on the team and are looking forward to a successful season ahead.
