  • Pence Is Said to Be Planning to Attend Trump’s Inauguration

Former Vice President Mike Pence is planning to attend President-elect Donald J. Trump’s inauguration on Monday, according to two people with knowledge of the planning.

Mr. Pence was invited by the congressional committee overseeing the event, as is the custom for all former presidents and vice presidents, according to one of the people with knowledge of the planning.

Mr. Trump selected Senator JD Vance of Ohio, rather than Mr. Pence, as his running mate in July 2024.

It is unclear what impact, if any, the request by Mr. Trump to move his second swearing-in ceremony into the Capitol Rotunda will have on the seating arrangements for former presidents and vice presidents. Unlike the outdoor dais and the seating setup, the Capitol Rotunda only seats about 600 people.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Pence declined to discuss his plans. A spokeswoman working with the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, which oversees the planning for the events, would not discuss Mr. Pence.

The former vice president was forced to escape a mob of pro-Trump supporters who descended on the Capitol during a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021, as he was presiding over the certification of President Biden’s Electoral College win. Some of them chanted, “Hang Mike Pence.”

Mr. Trump had pressed Mr. Pence to influence the outcome; Mr. Pence repeatedly said he’d researched it and didn’t have the power to do so. Their relationship was irreparably broken, and Mr. Pence ran against Mr. Trump for a brief time in the 2024 Republican primaries.

The two men saw each other recently at the funeral services for former President Jimmy Carter at the Washington National Cathedral, and exchanged a handshake.

It has been reported that Vice President Mike Pence is planning to attend President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20th, despite previous speculation that he may choose to skip the event.

This decision comes as a surprise to many, as tensions between Pence and Trump have been running high following the Capitol riot on January 6th, which led to the deaths of five people.

Pence’s attendance at the inauguration could be seen as a sign of unity within the Republican party, or as a strategic move to maintain his political standing within the party.

Regardless of his motives, Pence’s presence at the inauguration is sure to draw attention and speculation from both supporters and critics alike. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

  • Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi won’t attend Trump’s inauguration

Washington — Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, according to her spokesperson.

Pelosi led House Democrats during the first Trump administration and attended his inauguration in 2017. She became one of Trump’s chief antagonists, overseeing both impeachments against him as speaker.

A spokesperson did not provide a reason for her planned absence from the president-elect’s second inauguration. ABC News first reported on her plans.

Pelosi fell and injured her hip during an overseas trip to Luxembourg in December, and required hip replacement surgery before returning to the U.S. She was seen using a walker in the Capitol when the new Congress convened earlier this month.

Pelosi, who stepped down from leadership after the 2022 midterm elections, has been vocal about her opposition to Trump as he prepares to return to office. A frequent recipient of Republican ire, Pelosi was among the targets of some of the rioters on Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol to delay the counting of electoral votes.

The California Democrat accused Trump earlier this month of stoking continued violence in the aftermath of the attack on the Capitol, including against her husband.

“He called out to these people to continue their violence, my husband being a victim of all of that,” Pelosi said on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” noting that her husband still suffers from a head injury after a man broke into their San Francisco home and bludgeoned him with a hammer in October 2022.

Former first lady Michelle Obama also plans to skip Trump’s inauguration, though her husband, former President Barack Obama, is expected to be at the swearing in ceremony.

Trump skipped President Biden’s inauguration in 2021, two weeks after the attack on the Capitol.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced that she will not be attending President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20th. Pelosi, who served as Speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011, cited concerns about the divisive and controversial nature of Trump’s presidency as the reason for her decision.

In a statement released by her office, Pelosi expressed her belief that Trump’s policies and rhetoric are harmful to the American people and go against the values of inclusivity and equality that she holds dear. She stated that attending the inauguration would send the wrong message and that she cannot in good conscience participate in an event that celebrates the inauguration of a president whose actions she views as detrimental to the country.

Pelosi’s decision to skip Trump’s inauguration is a bold move that highlights the deep divisions within American politics. It also underscores the challenges that lie ahead for the new administration in bridging the gap between opposing viewpoints and finding common ground. As one of the most prominent Democratic leaders in the country, Pelosi’s absence at the inauguration is sure to make a statement and further highlight the polarized nature of American politics.

  • Priti Patel dismisses Nigel Farage as a ‘pop-up act’ as they both prepare to attend Trump’s inauguration alongside Boris Johnson and Liz Truss

Priti Patel dismissed Nigel Farage as a ‘pop-up act’ today as they both prepare to attend Donald Trump‘s inauguration.

The shadow foreign secretary said the apparent closeness of the Reform leader to the incoming president was ‘irrelevant’.

She insisted the Tories shared ‘DNA on values and beliefs’ with the Republicans and the parties ‘ended the Cold War’ together.

The brutal-put down came on the eve of the ceremony marking the White House changeover in Washington – which will also be joined by ex-PMs Boris Johnson and Liz Truss

Keir Starmer will not be present, with the government pointing out that is in keeping with long-standing convention.

However, there are mounting questions about how Labour will manage the crucial relationship with the new US administration.

The brutal-put down came on the eve of the ceremony marking Mr Trump (pictured) returning to the White House

Asked about Mr Farage’s influence with Mr Trump, Ms Patel told Sky News it was ‘not a relevant question’.

‘They are our sister party. We have enduring long-standing ties with the Republican Party,’ she said, stressing the Reagan-Thatcher era.

On Reform, she said: ‘We’re not a pop-up act in the way in which they are and their presence is here right now.

‘Our two parties are knitted together in the very principles of conservatism and our DNA on values and beliefs is incredibly strong.’

Ms Patel said she worked closely with the last Trump government as Home Secretary and ‘those ties will continue’.

The comments came after Mr Farage described some members of Mr Trump’s incoming cabinet as ‘genuine friends on speed dial’ and reiterated his offer to help foster relations.

He told the Sun on Sunday that if he were able to help ‘behind the scenes’ he would ‘because it is in the national interest’.

The timing of any official US visit by Sir Keir will be compared to that of Theresa May, who arrived at the White House as Prime Minister just seven days after Mr Trump’s first inauguration.

Government sources insisted last night that ‘constructive’ discussions with the incoming administration were under way over when Sir Keir could visit Washington.

But there are worries that tensions could flare and derail the Special Relationship.

Mr Trump’s campaign filed a Federal Election Commission complaint against Labour in October, accusing it of ‘blatant foreign interference’ after the party’s head of operations, Sofia Patel, asked for people to travel to the US to campaign for Kamala Harris.

A Trump ally told The Mail on Sunday: ‘It was election interference, plain and simple. Who the f*** do these people think they are?

‘Trump’s view is it’s none of their business what is going on here and they should have kept out.

Ms Truss has been posting messages from Washington DC on social media

Ms Truss has been posting messages from Washington DC on social media

‘How could their meddling possibly achieve anything? It didn’t. But it’s left a nasty taste in the mouth as far as President Trump and his team goes.

‘What a f***ing cheek these people have. And it didn’t do any good because Kamala was useless and clearly so were they.’

Despite the tensions, Sir Keir told the Financial Times he was building a ‘constructive’ relationship with Mr Trump, which he hoped would exempt the UK from threatened punitive trade tariffs and drown out the vitriolic attacks on him by Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and a member of Mr Trump’s team.

In a recent statement, UK Home Secretary Priti Patel dismissed Nigel Farage as a ‘pop-up act’ as they both prepare to attend President Trump’s inauguration alongside British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Trade Secretary Liz Truss.

Patel’s comments come amidst speculation that Farage, the former leader of the UK Independence Party and a prominent Brexit campaigner, may try to capitalize on his connections with the Trump administration to further his own political ambitions.

“Mr. Farage may see himself as a significant player on the global stage, but in reality, he is nothing more than a pop-up act,” Patel said. “His opportunistic behavior and grandstanding do not reflect the serious and responsible approach that the UK government takes to international relations.”

The presence of Farage, Johnson, and Truss at Trump’s inauguration has raised eyebrows among political observers, with many questioning the UK’s relationship with the outgoing US president. However, Patel emphasized that the British government remains committed to working with the US on issues of mutual interest, regardless of the personalities involved.

“We will continue to engage with the US government in a constructive and professional manner, irrespective of who occupies the White House,” Patel said. “Our priority is to promote the interests of the British people and strengthen our ties with our closest ally.”

The attendance of Patel, Farage, Johnson, and Truss at Trump’s inauguration is likely to attract further scrutiny in the coming days, as the UK prepares to navigate a new era in its relationship with the US.

  • New Yorkers Attend Mock Funeral for TikTok Prior to Brief US Shutdown

“Mourners” attended a mock funeral for TikTok in New York City on January 17, as the social media platform announced it would possibly be “forced” to shut down on January 19.

Video recorded by Ava Kramer shows an inflatable doll dressed in TikTok merchandise inside a casket in Washington Square Park on Friday.

“Flowers and candles were given to bystanders to place around the coffin,” Kramer told Storyful.

The “funeral” was hosted by comedian Zach Sage Fox.

TikTok shut itself down late Saturday evening, according to news reports, but was working to restore its services come Sunday afternoon after President-elect Donald Trump posted to Truth Social, saying he would “issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect.”

On Sunday, users reported being able to access the platform once again along with a message saying, “As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the US.” Credit: Ava Kramer via Storyful

On September 17th, a group of New Yorkers gathered in Washington Square Park to attend a mock funeral for TikTok, the popular social media app. The event was organized as a lighthearted protest against the potential ban of TikTok in the United States.

With rumors swirling about the app’s uncertain future in the US due to concerns about national security and data privacy, attendees dressed in black and carried signs mourning the loss of their beloved platform. Some even brought flowers and candles to pay their respects to the app that has become a staple in the lives of many young people.

Despite the somber tone of the event, participants also used the opportunity to voice their support for TikTok and their opposition to the ban. Many argued that TikTok provides a creative outlet and sense of community for its users, and that shutting it down would be a loss for millions of people.

While the future of TikTok in the US remains uncertain, the mock funeral served as a reminder of the app’s impact on its users and the cultural significance it has gained in a short amount of time. As the debate over TikTok’s fate continues, its loyal fans are determined to keep the platform alive in any way they can.

  • Former Presidents Obama, Clinton and Bush won’t attend Trump’s inaugural lunch

Former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush will not attend President-elect Donald Trump’s traditional inaugural lunch.

Obama received an invitation but declined to attend, according to a source familiar with the matter. Clinton also was invited but does not plan to attend, according to a second source familiar with the matter, while Bush’s office said it was not tracking an invitation to the luncheon.

Former Secretary of State and first lady Hillary Clinton also received an invitation to the inaugural luncheon but will not attend, according to a third source familiar with the matter.

A spokesperson for Trump’s transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the absences.

All three former presidents, however, will attend Trump’s swearing-in ceremony earlier in the day, according to their teams. The former first ladies will also attend the swearing-in ceremony except for Michelle Obama, according to the Obamas’ office. No reason was provided. Michelle Obama also did not attend the funeral service last week for former President Jimmy Carter, making hers the only absence among all living current and former presidents and first ladies.

Inauguration Day is one of the only occasions when all former living presidents usually congregate to usher in the next administration. Trump, however, declined to attend President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021.

None of the living former presidents supported Trump’s candidacy. Bush did not make an endorsement, and Obama and Clinton actively campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Clintons attended the luncheon in 2017 after Trump defeated Hillary Clinton. During the luncheon, he encouraged a standing ovation for her.

“I was very honored, very, very honored when I heard that President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton was coming today,” Trump said at the time.

The inaugural luncheon tradition stems from a lunch the Senate Committee on Arrangements hosted in 1897 for President William McKinley and guests at the Capitol, according to the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC), which hosts the luncheon.

In 1953, the JCCIC began hosting the luncheon for the incoming president and vice president and their guests. Politicians typically deliver speeches and toast the new administration.

Former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush have announced that they will not be attending President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural lunch on January 20th. This decision breaks with tradition, as past presidents have typically attended the lunch to show support for the peaceful transfer of power.

The decision not to attend the lunch comes amid heightened tensions between Trump and the former presidents. Trump has been critical of Obama and Clinton during the campaign, and Bush has reportedly expressed concerns about Trump’s leadership style.

While it is not uncommon for former presidents to skip the inaugural lunch, the absence of three former presidents is certainly notable. It remains to be seen how Trump will respond to their decision, and how it will impact the tone of the inauguration day festivities.

  • Charles Oliveira will attend UFC 311 to watch Islam Makhachev vs. Arman Tsarukyan 2: ‘I’m the next’

Charles Oliveira Ready for Winner of UFC 311 Main Event

During an interview with TNT Sports, Charles Oliveira discussed the rematch between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan. For “do Bronx,” the winner is irrelevant.

“They have similar styles, I think Islam is a little bit ahead,” Oliveira said. “I also think it’s gonna be a very good fight, but for me, it doesn’t matter who wins. I’m the next.”

Oliveira insists that he’s ready to fight as soon as possible, but he realizes that the winner of the UFC 311 headliner may not walk out unscathed.

“It depends on how they will leave the fight,” Oliveira said. “For me, it doesn’t matter. I will fight in February, March if I could, but it will depend on how the fight goes.”

Oliveira went on to confirm whether or not he’ll be in attendance at the Intuit Dome this weekend to watch the fight.

“I will be there even if I have to sit close to the cage,” Oliveira said.

Oliveira was defeated by Makhachev back in October 2022. He was submitted in the second round, and this was the start of Makhachev’s current UFC lightweight title run. Oliveira also suffered a loss against Tsarukyan back in April 2024 via split decision.

Can “do Bronx” eventually get revenge on both fighters?

Charles Oliveira, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, has announced that he will be attending UFC 311 to watch the highly anticipated rematch between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan. Oliveira, who recently defended his title against Dustin Poirier, is eager to see who will emerge victorious in this pivotal matchup.

“I’m excited to watch Makhachev and Tsarukyan go to war once again,” Oliveira said. “Both fighters are incredibly talented and have been making waves in the lightweight division. I know that the winner of this fight will be a top contender for my title, and I’m ready to face whoever comes out on top.”

Oliveira, who is currently on a nine-fight win streak, believes that he is the next in line to face the winner of Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan 2. With a record-breaking submission game and knockout power to match, Oliveira is confident that he can take on any challenger in the division.

“I’ve proven time and time again that I am the best lightweight in the world,” Oliveira said. “I’m excited to see who will step up to challenge me next. Whether it’s Makhachev, Tsarukyan, or anyone else, I will be ready to defend my title and show why I am the undisputed champion.”

UFC 311 is set to take place on November 12th, and fans can expect an action-packed night of fights. With Charles Oliveira in attendance, the stakes are higher than ever for the lightweight division. Stay tuned for updates on the event and the future of the UFC lightweight title picture.

  • Longtime Detroit Lions fan hopeful for Super Bowl appearance, purchases plane tickets to attend

Longtime Detroit Lions fan hopeful for Super Bowl appearance, purchases plane tickets to attend

(CBS DETROIT) – Detroit Lions fans are flying high after a big win Monday night in San Francisco. But one fan is already finalizing her plans to attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

Jennifer Luoto is all in on the Lions winning Super Bowl LIX. She says she purchased her plane ticket and a place to stay in Louisiana in the event that the team plays.

“We’ve been with the team a long time. We are not bandwagon fans. I remember as a young kid going to the Silverdome, seeing games there,” Luoto told CBS News Detroit.

She says her support for the team has run through the family for years. Her father and his close friend, Doug Ringer, initially purchased season tickets in the 70s. But Ringer was diagnosed with cancer and passed his tickets along to the Luoto family because they love the Lions.

“We like to call it the Lions’ love story,” Luoto said. “He (Doug Ringer) said he wanted to pass the tickets along to somebody that loved the Lions as much as he did, and so at that point, he passed the tickets to me. Now the tickets are in my name, and then we get to go down here and root on the Lions every game.”

Even though the team faced tough times, Luoto says her family never stopped watching them.

“This team, for a long time, was not a team that people rooted for, you know. We were here during the 0-16 season still coming to games when people are wearing bags over their heads,” she said. “We never did that. We always wanted to see the Lions win.”

Now, more than ever, Luoto and her family believe in the team and their hopes for the Super Bowl.

“It will be worth it for us. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and hopefully, this team has the fight to go all the way, and I believe they do,” she said.

As a longtime Detroit Lions fan, I have endured years of disappointment and heartbreak. But this season feels different. With a promising young quarterback in Jared Goff and a solid roster of talented players, I can’t help but feel hopeful for a Super Bowl appearance.

In a bold move, I have decided to purchase plane tickets to attend the big game, wherever it may be. Whether it’s in Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, or even Green Bay, I want to be there to witness history and cheer on my beloved Lions.

I know the odds may be stacked against us, but I believe in this team and their potential to defy expectations. So here’s to hoping for a magical season and a trip to the Super Bowl. Go Lions! #OnePride #SuperBowlBound
