The Cleveland Browns will get an in-depth look at their quarterback depth chart as the club wraps up the 2024 campaign on Saturday. In the regular-season finale, Cleveland is slated to start veteran Bailey Zappe at quarterback, according to the Associated Press. While Zappe will get the nod out of the gate, head coach Kevin Stefanski noted previously that both Zappe and fellow signal-caller Dorian Thompson-Robinson could play in Week 18, and NFL Media notes that this plan still appears to be intact. So, it could simply be Zappe getting the first crack while Thompson-Robinson follows up.
Meanwhile, Jameis Winston, who has started seven games this season, is expected to be the third-string quarterback.
Zappe, 25, signed with the Browns active roster in late October in the aftermath of Deshaun Watson suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. Before that, he was working on the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs, latching on with the defending champions at the end of the summer following his release from the New England Patriots.
Zappe entered the league as a fourth-round draft choice of the Patriots in 2022 out of Western Kentucky and was able to get some starting experience over his tenure. In all, he’s started eight games in his career, owning a 4-4 record. In 14 total appearances, Zappe has tallied 2,053 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions while completing 63.2% of his throws.
Once he officially gets the starting nod in Saturday’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, Zappe will be the 40th Browns starting quarterback since 1999.
For the Browns, starting Zappe and possibly going with the tandem quarterback attack with Thompson-Robinson on Saturday could be two-fold. First, the team could merely be evaluating the position group as it enters an offseason where they are likely to add to the room in some form or fashion. Knowing the capabilities of both Zappe and Thompson-Robinon (who has started five games for the club over the last two seasons) could give them a leg-up in the evaluation process.
Second, the Browns are still in play to earn the No. 1 overall pick at the 2025 NFL Draft but are currently slotted with the No. 3 pick. For them to keep that standing and possibly move up, they’d need to lose, so muddling the quarterback waters by playing both Zappe and Thompson-Robinson could help in that regard as well.
Meanwhile, this could further help Cleveland’s Week 18 opponent in the Baltimore Ravens, who are already over a two-touchdown favorite in this matchup. A win on Saturday would secure Baltimore the No. 3 seed in the AFC and the AFC North title.
In a surprising turn of events, rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe is set to start for the Cleveland Browns in their Week 18 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Zappe, who was drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has impressed coaches and teammates with his performance in practice and is now being given the opportunity to showcase his skills on the field.
Additionally, it has been reported that Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the Browns’ backup quarterback, may also see some playing time in the game. Thompson-Robinson has been waiting for his chance to prove himself in the NFL and could provide a different dynamic to the Browns’ offense if called upon.
It will be interesting to see how Zappe and Thompson-Robinson perform in this crucial game, as the Browns look to secure a playoff spot with a win over their division rival. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
Daniel Oyefusi covers the Cleveland Browns for ESPN. Prior to ESPN, he covered the Miami Dolphins for the Miami Herald, as well as the Baltimore Ravens for The Baltimore Sun.
BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns will start Bailey Zappe at quarterback for Saturday’s regular-season finale against the Baltimore Ravens, a source confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said after Thursday’s practice that he would first inform the quarterbacks of his plans but that he expected to play both Zappe and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who has started the past two games.
Zappe, who was originally signed off the Kansas City Chiefs‘ practice squad in the wake of Deshaun Watson‘s season-ending Achilles tear in October, will be the 40th quarterback to start for the Browns since the franchise returned to Cleveland in 1999, the most in the NFL. Zappe has made eight starts in his career, in the 2022 and 2023 seasons as a member of the New England Patriots. The 2022 fourth-round pick has completed 63.2% of his passes for 2,053 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Thompson-Robinson, a 2023 fifth-round pick, struggled in his two starts, completing just 54.3% of his passes for 327 yards and threw three interceptions in the games, both Cleveland losses.
Jameis Winston, who was benched and has been inactive the past two games because of a shoulder injury, will serve as the emergency quarterback.
With a loss in Baltimore, plus wins by the Patriots and Tennessee Titans on Sunday, the Browns would clinch the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
The Browns on Thursday also ruled out five players for Saturday’s game, including Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward, tight end David Njoku and running back Jerome Ford.
The Associated Press first reported the Browns’ plan to start Zappe.
The Cleveland Browns have reportedly made the decision to start quarterback Bailey Zappe in their upcoming game against the Baltimore Ravens. According to sources within the organization, Zappe has impressed coaches and teammates with his performance in practice and is poised to make his first career start in the NFL.
Zappe, a standout quarterback at Western Kentucky University, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Browns earlier this year. Despite being relatively unknown coming out of college, Zappe has quickly made a name for himself with his strong arm, accuracy, and football IQ.
While some may view the decision to start Zappe as a bold move, the Browns are confident in his abilities and believe he gives them the best chance to win. With veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield dealing with injury issues, Zappe will have the opportunity to prove himself on the big stage against a tough Ravens defense.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as we await official confirmation from the Browns coaching staff. #Browns #NFL #BaileyZappe #Ravens
It’s time to add another name to the long list of Browns starting quarterbacks since the franchise returned to existence in 1999.
Tom Withers of the Associated Press had the initial report that Bailey Zappe will get his first start for the team against the Ravens on Saturday. Several others have since confirmed the report that Zappe will be the 40th quarterback to start a game for the team since its return.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Jameis Winston have started games since Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury, but both have been limited in practice this week and they have been limited in their productivity when they have been on the field.
Zappe was signed off the Chiefs’ practice squad in October and has not appeared in any games. He started eight games for the Patriots the last two seasons and is 192-of-304 for 2,053 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 14 overall appearances.
Bailey Zappe to start at QB for Browns on Saturday
Big news out of Cleveland as rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe is set to make his first career start for the Browns this Saturday. With Baker Mayfield sidelined due to injury, Zappe has been given the opportunity to showcase his skills and lead the team to victory.
Zappe, a standout player at Western Kentucky, has impressed coaches and teammates with his poise, accuracy, and leadership on the field. Despite being a late-round draft pick, he has quickly earned the trust of the coaching staff and is ready to prove himself in the NFL.
Fans are buzzing with excitement as they anticipate Zappe’s debut as the starting quarterback for the Browns. Will he rise to the occasion and lead the team to a much-needed win? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – all eyes will be on Bailey Zappe this Saturday.

KPD said it was reported to the department around 5:25 p.m. on Sunday that a gold 2002 Ford Explorer had been stolen from a home on Old State Road. KPD said Bailey was still inside the vehicle.
“It was further reported that Elton was with his grandfather, who briefly stopped at the home on Old State Road, quickly went inside the home, and left the Ford Explorer running with Elton still inside the vehicle,” KPD said.

KPD said search efforts persisted for well over three hours with no verified sightings of the Explorer until assisting KCSO personnel found the vehicle in a muddy construction site near 212 Pelham Park Road. The department said this was just a short distance from where the SUV was reportedly last seen.
“The car was still running and Elton was found safe and unharmed inside of the vehicle,” the release said. “The Special Crimes Unit is continuing their investigation to determine if somebody did briefly attempt to steal the vehicle or if it was potentially left in gear and rolled down several ravines into the construction area where it was found.”

He made his TV debut the following year in the Victorian period drama Bramwell.
Throughout his childhood and adolescence, Bailey continued to perform in various productions, including Les Enfants du Paradis (1996), Les Misérables (1997–1998) and King John (2003). He declined his university acceptance offer and chose to pursue his acting career instead of attending drama school.

Bailey’s standout performance as Jamie in the West End revival of Company earned him widespread critical acclaim and recognition. His nuanced portrayal of a commitment-phobic bachelor navigating modern relationships showcased his impressive vocal range and exceptional acting abilities. This iconic role won Bailey the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical in 2019, cementing his status as a leading artist in musical theatre.

Despite the distinguished body of work that Jonathan Bailey has built so far, he isn’t as rich as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. At the moment he’s got one of the lower net worths of the Wicked cast, as Bailey’s estimated fortune is reportedly around USD 1.9 million.

Queers who haven’t watched Bridgerton or Fellow Travelers are getting what may be their first look at gay actor Jonathan Bailey in Wicked, as the man who’s winning the hearts of both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Of course, Christmas 2025 will see him back in Wicked: Part Two but new fans won’t have long to wait for more of him: he’s wrapped shooting Jurassic World Rebirth, the next chapter in the now-decades-long Jurassic film franchise.
Co-starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Rupert Friend, the movie is set five years down the road from Jurassic World Dominion, and the earth’s climate is no longer compatible with the dinosaurs. It also turns out that the remaining creatures might hold the genetic key to a human-life-saving miracle drug. This is only fair after all the people they ate in the previous films. Look for the big summer movie — when else — in July.
Ian McKellen joins Steven Soderbergh’s The Christophers
We’re loving the recent viral internet pic of 85-year-old Sir Ian McKellen out at the club with go-go boys because life is, after all, for living. Of course, he also never stops working. Case in point: he’s always on stage somewhere in London, and he’s starring in the latest project from another man who chooses never to retire, Steven Soderberg. The film is called The Christophers, and it’s a dark comedy involving the estranged children of a famous artist who hired a forger to finish their fathers’ paintings so that they can be sold after his death.
It co-stars James Corden and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and I May Destroy You actor Michaela Coel and is written by Ed Solomon, who’s already collaborated with Soderbergh on the film No Sudden Move and the TV series Mosaic and Full Circle. In production now, figure to get first looks sometime in late 2025, probably while both Soderbergh and McKellen will have already wrapped something else.
Olivia Colman and John Lithgow bring Jimpa to Sundance
Australian filmmaker Sophie Hyde, whose most recent film Good Luck to You, Leo Grande with Emma Thompson, was a bright spot in the Covid streaming-at-home moment, is back with one you’ll probably get to see in a movie theater. It’s called Jimpa, and it stars Olivia Colman, John Lithgow and Hyde’s child, non-binary actor Aud Mason-Hyde.
It’s a family comedy-drama about a mother and her non-binary child visiting their gay grandfather (Lithgow) and discovering the value and important bonds of a queer family lineage. The film premieres in early 2025 at the Sundance Film Festival and should drop into multiplex world at an unspecified time after that. NB representation keeps rolling into 2025, and that’s a good thing.
Tom Daley knits up a reality series
Gay British Olympic diver Tom Daley might not be competing anymore, but he’s got plenty to do. And if you’ve paid any attention to his personal life, you’ve seen that one of those things is knitting. He’s always got his needles with him out in public, working on something cozy. Enter TV stardom on a new reality competition series: Game of Wool. Daley will host the eight-episode knitting competition series, set in rural Scotland, where 10 contestants will take part in challenges such as making jewelry, furniture, sculptures, and more.
How this will be accomplished with knitting is why you’re probably going to tune in and watch; because otherwise it’s just a show about people sitting down and making sweaters (or “jumpers” as they call them over there). In production now, expect this one to catch fire among devotees the way Great British Bake-Off has turned home cooks into bread warriors.
Romeo San Vicente is exceptionally crafty.

Born and raised in Oxfordshire, England, Bailey discovered his love for acting at a young age and pursued his passion by studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His hard work and dedication paid off, leading him to land roles in acclaimed productions such as “Broadchurch,” “Doctor Who,” and “Leonardo.”
Bailey’s breakout role came in the hit Netflix series “Bridgerton,” where he plays the charming and charismatic Anthony Bridgerton. His portrayal of the complicated and deeply flawed character has earned him critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base.
But beyond his on-screen success, Bailey is also a talented stage actor, with credits including “Company” and “The Last Five Years.” His ability to seamlessly transition between mediums showcases his versatility and range as a performer.

The redshirt senior was named the Cardinals‘ starter for the Sun Bowl against Washington, U of L head coach Jeff Brohm announced Monday. Bailey became QB1 after Tyler Shough opted out of the bowl game. Shough ended his collegiate career with 3,195 passing yards and 23 touchdowns for the Cardinals (8-4).
“Harrison is looking forward to getting his opportunity,” Brohm said. “And I think when you’re the backup quarterback, you never know when your turn is going to come. I think he’s worked hard. He’s really practiced well throughout this entire month.”
Shough, Bailey and Pierce Clarkson were the only quarterbacks to record a pass for Louisville this season. But the Cardinals were down to only Bailey by the end of the year after Clarkson, who had 11 yards on 3-for-4 passing this season, opted to transfer.
Backup QBs include true freshman Deuce Adams; Brady Allen, who withdrew from the transfer portal; and Sam Young, who converted to wide receiver but still is listed as a QB on the roster.
Bailey, who spent his first two years at Tennessee, transferred to Louisville prior to the 2023 season, but his time on the field has been limited. He only played in one game last year and only played in the first two games of the 2024 campaign. The Georgia native went 8-for-8 passing for 63 yards during that time.
Bailey won’t be the only new starter. The Cardinals also will be without starting wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks, who totaled 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns on 61 receptions.
“He knows he’s got some good players around him. We got to make sure that we utilize all those and not put too much pressure on him,” Brohm said of Bailey. “But anytime you’re a quarterback who doesn’t get to see the field, when you get that opportunity, you want to try to grasp and run with it. So I’m hopeful that we play well rounded, he relaxes and goes out there (and) plays. But I know he’s looking forward to it.”
Louisville and Washington are set to kick off at 2 p.m. ET Tuesday.

In a surprising move, Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm has announced that freshman Harrison Bailey will be the starting quarterback for the Boilermakers in the upcoming Sun Bowl game.
Bailey, a highly touted recruit out of Marietta, Georgia, will be making his first career start for Purdue after serving as a backup for most of the season. The 6’5″ signal-caller has shown flashes of potential in limited action this season, and Brohm believes he is ready to lead the offense in the team’s bowl game.
This decision comes as a bit of a shock to some, as Bailey will be taking the reins from veteran quarterback Jack Plummer, who has been the starter for most of the season. However, Brohm has expressed confidence in Bailey’s abilities and believes he gives the team the best chance to win against the opposition.
Purdue fans will undoubtedly be eager to see what Bailey can do in his first start, and all eyes will be on him as he looks to lead the Boilermakers to victory in the Sun Bowl. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting matchup with Bailey at the helm.
