Vinicius Jr continues to be triggered by Rodri’s historic Ballon d’Or triumph in new interview
Vinicius Jr continues to be triggered by Rodri’s historic Ballon d’Or triumph in new interview Manchester City’s history-defining moment courtesy of Rodri at the Ballon d’Or ceremony late last year continues to feature in media reports weeks later.
The Spanish midfielder became the first defensive-minded central player to win the award since Germany’s Lothar Matthaus in 1990, as a justified reward for the exceptional contributions to both club and country over 2024.
Winning a fourth consecutive Premier League title with Manchester City off the back of a Player of the Tournament role at the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, Rodri travelled with Spain to Germany for the 2024 European Championships.
While Luis de la Fuente’s squad were not tipped as tournament favourites, their controlled way of playing defeated opposition from the likes of Italy, Germany, and France en route to the final in Berlin were they secured the trophy over Gareth Southgate’s England.
But while Rodri also won Player of the Tournament at the European Championships too alongside the competition triumph with his teammates and goal contributions in Germany, some were left strangely confused by his victory at the Ballon d’Or ceremony last Autumn.
Speaking after Real Madrid’s latest victory in European competition and after a starring performance from Vinicius Jr, the Brazilian winger himself appeared to remain affected by Rodri’s triumph over him in the chase for the Ballon d’Or.
“Individual awards are of course important, but… We can’t talk so much, it’s not the vote that people expected, but we have to continue,” Vinicius Jr told TNT Sports Brazil, as translated and relayed by Football Espana.
He continued, “Rodrygo, Kylian (Mbappe), Jude (Bellingham), to do great things.”
Vinicius Jr and the entire Real Madrid delegation opted to boycott the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris last year after they became aware of Rodri’s victory in the lead-up to the award being handed out in the French capital.
Those within the Santiago Bernabeu camp felt it was a certain success for their winger, despite his failure to contribute to anything of note for the Brazilian national team, unlike Rodri for his country over the course of last summer.
In a recent interview, Vinicius Jr opened up about his feelings towards Rodri’s historic Ballon d’Or triumph, admitting that he continues to be triggered by it. The young Brazilian winger has been vocal about his disappointment in not winning the prestigious award himself, and it seems that the sting of defeat still lingers.Vinicius Jr expressed his frustration with the outcome of the Ballon d’Or voting, stating that he felt he deserved the award more than Rodri. He pointed to his impressive performances throughout the season and his impact on the team as reasons why he should have been the winner.
Despite his disappointment, Vinicius Jr acknowledged that Rodri is a talented player and deserving of the accolade. However, he made it clear that he will use this snub as motivation to work even harder and prove his worth in the future.
It is clear that Vinicius Jr’s competitive spirit is still burning strong, and fans can expect to see even more determination and drive from the young star in the upcoming season. Only time will tell if he will be able to turn his frustration into success on the pitch.

Kylian Mbappé considers he should have won the 2018 Ballon d’Or Kylian Mbappé (26) considers he should have won the 2018 Ballon d’Or, according to a report from L’Equipe. The Real Madrid centre-forward seemed to have found his groove back before the winter break under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti, winning the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. This season, the former PSG striker made a commendable start to life with Los Merengue, with 14 goals in all competitions, which made the Italian manager say that his adjustment period was over in the Spanish capital.
The second half of the 2024-2025 campaign will prove to be a long one for Mbappé, who will take part in the brand new FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid and probably the UEFA Nations League Final Four, should France defeat Croatia in the two-legged quarterfinals. L’Equipe mentions that Mbappé knows that, should he lead Real Madrid and France to glory, he will be a serious candidate to win the Ballon d’Or.
The outlet mentions that Mbappé privately confesses he feels he should have won the 2018 Ballon d’Or, which was scooped by Luka Modric with the Croatian midfielder leading Real Madrid to their 13th Champions League title and the nation he captained to the World Cup final. Mbappé eventually finished fourth in the standings.
Mbappé also considers he was a penalty shoot-out away from winning the 2022-2023 Ballon d’Or, making a reference to the 2022 World Cup final France lost to penalties against Lionel Messi’s Argentina. Mbappé finished third in the standings, behind Messi and Erling Haaland.

Kylian Mbappé, the French football sensation, has recently voiced his opinion on the 2018 Ballon d’Or award, stating that he believes he should have won the prestigious accolade. Despite finishing fourth in the voting that year, Mbappé believes his performances and achievements on the pitch were deserving of the top spot. The young forward had a stellar year in 2018, playing a crucial role in France’s World Cup victory and helping Paris Saint-Germain secure the Ligue 1 title. Mbappé’s impressive goal-scoring record and electrifying pace caught the attention of football fans worldwide, solidifying his status as one of the brightest talents in the sport.

As fans eagerly await the announcement of the 2021 Ballon d’Or winner, Mbappé’s comments serve as a reminder of his ambition and drive to be recognized as the best in the game. Only time will tell if he can achieve his goal and secure the coveted award in the years to come.

On Friday, the Globe Soccer Awards took place in Dubai where Cristiano Ronaldo collected the award for the best Middle East player thanks to his scoring feats at Al-Nassr. This season, the 39-year-old has 16 goals and three assists in 19 appearances in all competitions. During the award ceremony, the Portuguese forward had a lot say. He made a strong statement about French soccer while also asserting that Vinicius Junior should’ve won the Ballon d’Or instead of Rodri.
Ronaldo weighs in on the Ballon d’Or
The Ballon d’Or was a controversial award ceremony with Real Madrid not sending players to Paris where they took place. Initially it seemed like Vini Jr. was going to be the favorite to win, but closer to the awards, it emerged that it would be Rodri after winning the Premier League with Manchester City and the European Championship with Spain.
“In my opinion, he [Vini Jr.] deserved to win the golden ball [Ballon d’Or] it was unfair in my opinion. I say here in front of everybody,” Ronaldo said at the Globe Soccer Awards. “They give it to Rodri, he deserved it too, but they should’ve given it to Vinicius because he won the Champions League and scored in the final.”
After receiving the Globe Soccer awards for best player and best striker, Vini Jr. had a response to Ronaldo as well, although it was more subdued in nature.
“If Cristiano that’s what says, then I will choose to believe that I am the best,” Vini Jr. said. “He is my idol, along with Neymar. And it is an honor for me to receive the award in front of them.”
Shots fired at Ligue 1
A Real Madrid legend himself, it makes sense that Ronaldo would stick up for Vini Jr.’s case but when it came to French soccer, that’s where Ronaldo made some waves insisting that the Saudi League is better than the French league.
“The Saudi League is better than Ligue 1, of course,” Ronaldo said. “France only has Paris Saint-Germain. The rest are finished.”
While it can be tough to compare league strength and Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr won’t be taking part in the Club World Cup in 2025 where they’d get a chance to go against some of the worlds’ best teams to put that statement to the test, French sides are flying high in Champions League play this season.
Lille knocked off Real Madrid at home behind a Jonathan David penalty and every French side but PSG would advance out of the league phase of the tournament as things stand. Brest sits sixth in the table in their inaugural Champions League campaign while Lille is in the top eight followed by Monaco in 16th. Depending on how things shake out, PSG in 24th could be in trouble as they’ve struggled to adapt following the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid. That doesn’t seem close to a finished league.
In a recent interview, Cristiano Ronaldo made a bold statement by claiming that the Saudi Pro League is better than Ligue 1. The Portuguese superstar, who currently plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, expressed his belief that the level of competition in the Saudi Pro League is higher than that of Ligue 1.Ronaldo’s comments have sparked a debate among football fans and experts, with many questioning his judgment on the matter. While Ligue 1 is home to top clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais, the Saudi Pro League has been gaining recognition for its growing quality and competitiveness in recent years.
In the same interview, Ronaldo also voiced his support for his teammate at Al Nassr, Vini Jr, for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award. The 21-year-old Brazilian forward has been in sensational form this season, leading the scoring charts in the Saudi Pro League and attracting attention from top European clubs.
Ronaldo’s endorsement of Vini Jr over Manchester City’s Rodri for the Ballon d’Or has raised eyebrows, as many consider the Spanish midfielder to be a frontrunner for the award. However, Ronaldo’s faith in his young teammate’s abilities and potential to reach new heights in his career is evident in his praise and backing for Vini Jr.
As the football world awaits the announcement of the Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo’s bold statements and unwavering support for Vini Jr have added an intriguing twist to the race for the prestigious award. Only time will tell if Ronaldo’s predictions and preferences will come to fruition, but one thing is for sure – the football world will be watching closely.

Salah seems likely to win the Ballon d’Or this season. It is safe to say that there is virtually no opponent. The Ballon d’Or is an award ceremony to select the best soccer player in a season.
On the 26th (Korea Standard Time), the British goal-com announced the “2025 Ballon d’Or Power Ranking” and selected Liverpool’s Mohamed Salaga as the most likely candidate.
Salah is at his peak with 20 goals and 15 assists this season. Salah is 32 years old and the same age as Son Heung-min. As a soccer player, he is a veteran, but his recent form reminds him of his heyday.
`Sala’s contract with Liverpool expires next summer, so if this becomes his last year at Anfield, he will leave in style,’ the media said.”The King of Egypt” is emerging as a candidate to rediscover his best skills under new coach Arne Slot and win both the English Premier League (EPL) and the UEFA Champions League (UCL),” he said. If Salah wins the Ballon d’Or, the Ballon d’Or Winner will come out of Africa for the first time in about 30 years since George Weah in 1996.
Salah recently set the history of Liverpool. He has scored 15 goals and 11 assists so far this season, achieving the shortest 10-10 record in EPL history, which was launched in 1992. Salah is also the first player in the EPL to record 10-10 in four consecutive seasons. This is Salah’s sixth career record of 10-10, which is also the most in the EPL.
Salah, who scored his 15th goal in the league, is the lone EPL top scorer, beating Manchester City’s Erling Holan (13 goals).
Meanwhile, Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid), Hapinha (Barcelona), Jamal Musiela (Bayern Munich), Roberto Lewandowski (Barcelona), and Ramin Yamal (Barcelona) are considered as rivals for Sala’s Ballon d’Or.
