2025 Kansas State Women’s Basketball: Game 22 vs Iowa State

It’s been a rough week and a half for the Kansas State Wildcats.

Back on Jan 19th, in the midst of winning their 14th-straight game, the MittieCats lost the services of All-American center Ayoka Lee to a foot injury — one that will sideline her until at least near the end of the regular season. The Wildcats then got most of the next week off to prepare for the loss, but couldn’t overcome a litany of self-inflicted mistakes enroute to an embarrassing 63-53 loss in Boulder to the same Colorado team that knocked the Wildcats out of the NCAA Tournament last season. Not exactly the redemptive performance that was expected.

And now the Wildcats (19-2, 7-1 Big 12) must face a tough, if flawed, Iowa State team that features Audi Crooks — a now-sophomore center that gave Ayoka Lee loads of problems last season.

It’s not all bad news for the Cats. The Cyclones are not having the season they expected after ending last season with a late surge of 6-straight wins (including beating then-#15 K-State in Bramlage) that pushed them into the Big 12 Tournament title game, and then a second-day trip in the NCAA Tournament — where they fell in overtime to 2-seed Stanford.

This season, the Cyclones have played an extremely tough schedule, and three of their four non-conference losses are to Top 25 teams (South Carolina, Iowa, and UConn). Their Big 12 losses are all to very good teams — OSU, Utah (before they lost Kennady McQueen to injury), and West Virginia. But they have yet to play K-State, TCU, or Baylor, who are still the biggest dogs in the conference this season.

So K-State and Iowa State square off tonight. Even with Ayoka Lee to go one-on-one with Audi Crooks this was going to be a tough one. But now Kennedy Taylor, Eliza Maupin, and Imani Lester are going to have to work extra hard down low. And they are going to need Serena Sundell, Temira Poindexter, and others to step up outside. And there’s the added distraction of the Cyclones having two Kansans — Claflin’s Emily Ryan and Derby’s Addy Brown — who both start, and who have both managed to bring loud cheering groups with them to Bramlage.

K-State needs to win tonight if they want to keep pace ahead of the pack in the Big 12. But Iowa State wants to get back into that conversation themselves. This is going to be a tough game. Let’s hope the home crowd can give the Wildcats enough boost to push them over the top.

We’ve got a 7:30pm CT tipoff for the game this evening from Bramlage Coliseum, and you can catch the action on ESPN (yeah, the big one) with Eric Frede (play-by-play) and Christy Thomaskutty (analyst) on the call.

If you can’t get to ESPN, or can’t access the stream, the game can be heard across portions of the 28-station K-State Sports Network with Brian Smoller (play-by-play) and Kristin Waller (analyst) calling the action. The game will also be available online at K-Statesports.com and via the Varsity Network app. Live stats are also available at k-statesports.com, and social media updates (@KStateWBB) will also be a part of the coverage.

Go Cats!

In a highly anticipated matchup between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Iowa State Cyclones, the stage is set for an intense battle on the basketball court. Both teams are coming off strong performances in their previous games and are hungry for a win as they face off in Game 22 of the 2025 season.

The Wildcats, led by star players Samantha Smith and Emily Johnson, have been a force to be reckoned with this season. With a record of 18-3, they are currently ranked in the top 10 nationally and are looking to continue their winning streak against their conference rival.

On the other side, the Cyclones are no slouches themselves. With a record of 15-6, they have proven themselves to be a tough opponent with their strong defense and sharp shooting. Led by point guard Rachel Thompson and forward Jenna Miller, Iowa State is determined to come out on top in this crucial matchup.

As the two teams take the court, the atmosphere is electric with fans from both sides cheering on their respective teams. The intensity is palpable as each possession is crucial in determining the outcome of the game.

Will the Wildcats be able to maintain their dominance and secure another win, or will the Cyclones pull off an upset and solidify their position in the conference standings? Only time will tell as the game unfolds before our eyes.

Stay tuned for updates and highlights from the game as we witness the drama unfold in this exciting matchup between Kansas State and Iowa State. Let the battle begin!

Youngstown State Penguins vs. Wright State Raiders: How to watch NCAA Basketball online, TV channel, live stream info, start time

Halftime Report

A win for Wright State would push their record over .500, and after one quarter of play they’ve put themselves in a good position to make it happen. They have a bit of a cushion as they currently lead Youngstown State 50-36.

Wright State came into the game with some extra motivation after the defeat they were dealt the last time these two teams faced off. We’ll see if they’re able to flip the script or if it’ll just be more of the same.

Who’s Playing

Wright State Raiders @ Youngstown State Penguins

Current Records: Wright State 11-11, Youngstown State 13-9

How To Watch

What to Know

Wright State is 2-8 against Youngstown State since February of 2020 but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Both will face off in a Horizon League battle at 6:30 p.m. ET at Beeghly Center. The Raiders are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 77 points per game this season.

Wright State is headed into this one after the oddsmakers set last week’s over/under low at 147, but even that wound up being too high. They strolled past Detroit with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 67-50.

Wright State smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That’s a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.9 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they’ve averaged 13.8.

Meanwhile, Youngstown State posted their biggest win since November 30, 2024 on Friday. They simply couldn’t be stopped as they easily beat PSU Shenango 112-63. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 62-25.

The victory got Wright State back to even at 11-11. As for Youngstown State, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.

Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday’s contest: Wright State has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.7% of their threes per game. It’s a different story for Youngstown State, though, as they’ve only made 30.9% of their threes this season. Given Wright State’s sizable advantage in that area, Youngstown State will need to find a way to close that gap.

Wright State is hoping to beat the odds on Thursday, as the experts think they’re headed for a loss. For those looking to play the spread, watch out: Wright State is playing as the underdogs on the road, but their 2-5 record against the spread as such isn’t exactly encouraging.

Odds

Youngstown State is a slight 1.5-point favorite against Wright State, according to the latest college basketball odds.

The oddsmakers were right in line with the betting community on this one, as the game opened as a 1.5-point spread, and stayed right there.

The over/under is 147.5 points.

Oklahoma at LSU women’s basketball: Storylines, how to watch as Flau’jae Johnson faces Raegan Beers

Oklahoma at LSU women’s basketball: Storylines, how to watch as Flau’jae Johnson faces Raegan Beers

Two of the SEC’s best and most balanced offenses get a national stage Thursday night, with Jennie Baranczyk’s Oklahoma Sooners cast as road underdogs against Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers. The Tigers are at +3000 (seventh in the odds) to win the National Championship, while the Sooners are at +10000 (13th). Both teams avenged gnarly losses to South Carolina by winning on Sunday, albeit against inferior opponents. This game carries weight in a competitive and crowded conference.

Venue: Pete Maravich Assembly Center — Baton Rouge, La.

LSU’s big three can ball with the best of them. Junior Flau’jae Johnson is fifth in the SEC with 19.7 points per game. Senior Aneesah Morrow is a menace, averaging 14 rebounds (best in the nation) and three stocks (steals + blocks). Sophomore Mikaylah Williams averages 15.9 points per game and shoots 90.2 percent from the foul line.

But this electric offense has been temporarily grounded. The Tigers had topped 80 points in 12 of 13 contests before back-to-back struggles last week. They shot just 31.9 percent in Sunday’s win over Texas A&M, while Johnson went 0-for-5 from behind the arc. They were an especially disagreeable 29.9 percent in the South Carolina loss.

LSU could use a get-right game. The same goes for these Sooners. Oklahoma achieved its highest AP ranking (eighth) since 2008-09 but has since gone 4-3, with a loss to rival Texas and a heartbreaker at Mississippi State.

If the Sooners are to pull off the upset, they will need 2024 All-American Raegan Beers at her best. She’s an interior presence but has actually made 4 of 7 treys since the New Year. More confidence on the long ball would really open up this offense. Off the strength of Beers, Oklahoma is third in the country in total rebounding and first in the SEC in 2-point percentage.

The Sooners also have the conference’s highest assist rate, thanks to clever senior guard Payton Verhulst and fifth-year bench spark Nevaeh Tot. The main problem has been their negative turnover differential.

From senior writer Chantel Jennings: “The South Carolina game was the first genuine measuring stick for LSU this season after a non-conference slate that had just one top-25 opponent (then-No. 20 NC State in the SEC-ACC Challenge). Holding South Carolina to 66 points is certainly an impressive feat — the only lower-scoring game for the Gamecocks this season was their loss to UCLA. However, the Tigers couldn’t find enough of an offensive spark and cohesion to match.”

‘That’s a Basketball Gym.’ Penn State’s Mike Rhoades Excited for Return to Rec Hall

Fans storm the court at Rec Hall after Penn State’s 90-89 upset of Illinois on Feb. 21. 2024. Photo by Jake Musmanno | Onward State

The bleachers were filled and were situated all the way up to the hardwood. The fans brought forth an energy, a noise unfamiliar to the Bryce Jordan Center in events other than concerts. Penn State’s return to Rec Hall last season was an invigorating experience: a packed crowd, a miraculous comeback and a last-second win over No. 12 Illinois.

It felt like a basketball game.

The Nittany Lions will again play in their former home venue on Thursday night, when Ohio State comes to town. It’s an event Mike Rhoades has had circled on his calendar since the last time he coached there. He’s a basketball purist with an admiration for the sport’s history in Pennsylvania. And he hasn’t shied away from banging his fist for more Rec Hall hostings.

“That is a basketball arena. That’s a basketball gym,” Rhoades said Wednesday. “The one thing that’s been neat going around the Big Ten is seeing basketball arenas. Not big convocation centers, basketball arenas. Even when they bring the bleachers in around the court so it gives it a basketball fan experience. That, to me, is Rec Hall, and that just brings a lot of excitement.”

Penn State has played at Rec Hall just four times since moving to the Bryce Jordan Center in 1996. And last season’s win over Illinois marked the team’s first conference game in 28 years played there. It couldn’t have gone better. An elated Rhoades spoke postgame about the momentum the win, done in such a historic venue, could have on his program.

Rhoades made it clear that night he hoped to be back. Even in the offseason, Rhoades wouldn’t stop beating the drum on the importance of Rec Hall to him and his program. He sat beside Big Ten Network’s Dave Revsine, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and Oregon’s Dana Altman at Big Ten Media Day in October, and the topic was brought up.

“I try to make it an everyday discussion with our administration,” Rhoades said then. “It was a great environment, turning back the clocks for a lot of alums, a lot of fans and supporters. So we’re going to continue with our administration. We want to be outside the box, that’s what we keep talking about.”

The metrics appear to suggest that Rec Hall would make a more suitable, permanent arena for Penn State. The venue’s capacity is just over 6,500 and the Nittany Lions have averaged an attendance of 7,223 this season while playing in the Bryce Jordan Center, which can seat north of 15,200.

It’s hardly a question that the environment within Beaver Stadium has an effect on opposing football teams. SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings said crowd noise had a “big impact” and “disturbed” his offense after Penn State’s 38-10 win over the Mustangs in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 21.

In college basketball, players and coaches know what they’re getting into when they travel to Indiana or Purdue, where the arenas are built for basketball games. It’s loud and the fans are close to the floor, providing a true home-court advantage, the type of edge that Rhoades and his Penn State program get just once a year in their return to Rec Hall.

“Those are the arenas we all grew up in and the gyms we all grew up in, and you see that in the Big Ten right now when we go on the road,” Rhoades said. “Michigan had people right on the court, all the way around. Michigan State brings in bleachers and goes around the court. That encompasses it and makes it a basketball arena and gives that fan experience and player fun experience a cool atmosphere.”

Penn State’s Mike Rhoades Excited for Return to Rec Hall

After a long hiatus, Penn State’s basketball team is finally returning to Rec Hall for their upcoming game. Head coach Mike Rhoades couldn’t be more thrilled for the team to play in the historic venue once again.

Rec Hall holds a special place in the hearts of Penn State basketball fans, as it has been the home of the team for decades. The intimate atmosphere and passionate crowd make it a truly unique place to play a game.

Rhoades knows the importance of playing in such a historic gym and is excited for his players to experience it firsthand. He believes that the energy of the crowd and the history of the venue will motivate his team to play their best.

As the team prepares for their upcoming game at Rec Hall, Rhoades is focused on making sure they are ready to compete at the highest level. He knows that playing in such a legendary venue comes with a lot of pressure, but he is confident that his team is up to the challenge.

So mark your calendars and get ready to cheer on the Penn State basketball team as they return to Rec Hall. It’s sure to be an exciting game that you won’t want to miss!
