Knicks, Rangers games set to go dark in contract battle between MSG and cable operator

Knicks and Rangers games on Optimum were set to go dark Wednesday as contract talks between the cable operator and MSG remained at an impasse ahead of a deadline before the ball drops.

As of press time Tuesday, neither side seemed willing to budge much over the carriage fees paid by Optimum parent Altice to broadcast MSG Networks, which is run by Knicks and Rangers owner James Dolan.

In the current deal that expires at midnight, Optimum pays MSGN $10 per subscriber, a source close to the situation told The Post.

The cable operator, which has about one-third of the roughly 3 million subscribers in the New York City area, is looking to reduce that fee in the new contract.

On Tuesday, MSGN sweetened an offer it floated weeks ago that would involve allowing Optimum to move it from the basic tier, meaning subscribers would have to pay an additional fee for the channel, the source said.

Optimum did not respond for comment about the latest offer.

“MSG Networks is demanding exorbitant programming fees – which could raise our customers’ cable bills,” the company said in a statement on Monday.

If no deal is reached before midnight, it will force Knicks fans to scramble to find another provider in order to watch the New Year’s Day matchup against Utah.

“Unsurprisingly, Altice continues to confuse its customers so it can get away with charging them more for less,” an MSG spokesperson said in a statement released late Tuesday,

“They just implemented exorbitant price increases — nearly 50% for current subscribers and 70% for new subscribers (after expiration of promotional offer) for the package that now includes MSG Networks – and now their customers are at risk of losing coverage of their favorite local sports teams on MSG.”

MSG Networks also broadcasts games for the Islanders and the first-place New Jersey Devils, who take the ice Wednesday against the Los Angeles Kings.

More than half of Optimum customers are not able to switch to another cable company like Verizon’s Fios, sources said.

Their only option to watch MSG during the Optimum blackout would be through its Gotham Sports streaming service, which costs $29.99 per month.

The battle between Madison Square Garden (MSG) and cable operator has reached a boiling point, leading to the possibility of Knicks and Rangers games going dark for cable subscribers. This contract dispute has the potential to leave fans without access to their favorite teams’ games, causing frustration and disappointment among viewers.

The standoff between MSG and the cable operator has been ongoing, with both parties unable to reach a resolution on a new contract. As a result, the current agreement is set to expire soon, leaving the fate of Knicks and Rangers games uncertain.

Fans are left wondering if they will be able to watch their beloved teams in action, or if they will be left in the dark due to this contract dispute. The tension between MSG and the cable operator is palpable, with both sides digging in their heels and refusing to budge.

As the deadline looms, fans are anxiously waiting to see if a last-minute agreement can be reached to ensure that Knicks and Rangers games will continue to be broadcasted on cable. Until then, the fate of these games remains up in the air, leaving fans on edge and hoping for a resolution before it’s too late.

  • The Battle of Freesync vs G-Sync: Which is Better for Gaming?

The Battle of Freesync vs G-Sync: Which is Better for Gaming?

When it comes to gaming, having a smooth and immersive experience is key. This is where technologies like Freesync and G-Sync come into play. Both technologies are designed to synchronize the refresh rate of your monitor with the frame rate of your graphics card, resulting in a smoother and tear-free gaming experience. But which one is better for gaming? Let’s take a closer look at the Battle of Freesync vs G-Sync.

Freesync is a technology developed by AMD that allows your monitor to dynamically adjust its refresh rate to match the frame rate of your graphics card. This results in a tear-free gaming experience, as the monitor’s refresh rate is always in sync with the graphics card’s output. Freesync is an open standard, which means that it can be implemented on a wide range of monitors without the need for proprietary hardware.

On the other hand, G-Sync is a technology developed by Nvidia that also synchronizes the refresh rate of your monitor with the frame rate of your graphics card. However, G-Sync requires a proprietary hardware module to be installed in the monitor, which can increase the cost of the monitor. G-Sync monitors tend to be more expensive than Freesync monitors, but they often offer better performance and more features.

So, which technology is better for gaming? It ultimately comes down to personal preference and budget. Freesync monitors are generally more affordable and offer a good gaming experience, especially when paired with an AMD graphics card. G-Sync monitors, on the other hand, tend to offer better performance and features, but at a higher cost.

In conclusion, both Freesync and G-Sync are great technologies that can enhance your gaming experience. If you’re on a budget, Freesync is a solid choice. If you’re looking for top-of-the-line performance and features, G-Sync may be worth the investment. Ultimately, the best choice for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences.

  • Battle of the Mid-Range GPUs: Radeon RX 6600 XT vs. Radeon RX 580

Battle of the Mid-Range GPUs: Radeon RX 6600 XT vs. Radeon RX 580

When it comes to choosing a mid-range graphics card for your gaming rig, two popular options on the market are the Radeon RX 6600 XT and the Radeon RX 580. Both cards offer solid performance for 1080p gaming and are priced competitively, making them a great choice for budget-conscious gamers. But which one is the better option for your needs? Let’s take a closer look at the Battle of the Mid-Range GPUs: Radeon RX 6600 XT vs. Radeon RX 580.

The Radeon RX 6600 XT is the newer of the two cards, released in August 2021. It features the RDNA 2 architecture and is based on the 7nm process node, which helps improve efficiency and performance. The RX 6600 XT comes with 32 compute units, 2048 stream processors, and 8GB of GDDR6 memory. It also supports features like ray tracing, variable rate shading, and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution for improved graphics quality and performance.

On the other hand, the Radeon RX 580 was released in April 2017 and is based on the older Polaris architecture. It has 36 compute units, 2304 stream processors, and 8GB of GDDR5 memory. While the RX 580 may not have all the latest features like ray tracing, it still offers solid performance for 1080p gaming and can handle most modern titles at medium to high settings.

In terms of performance, the Radeon RX 6600 XT is the clear winner. It offers significantly better performance in most games compared to the RX 580, thanks to its newer architecture and higher core count. The RX 6600 XT can easily handle 1080p gaming at high settings and even offers decent performance at 1440p in some titles. If you’re looking for a card that can deliver smooth gameplay and high frame rates, the RX 6600 XT is the way to go.

That being said, the Radeon RX 580 still has its merits. It’s a more budget-friendly option compared to the RX 6600 XT and can still provide a solid gaming experience for those on a tight budget. If you’re primarily gaming at 1080p and don’t mind tweaking settings to get the best performance, the RX 580 is a good choice.

In conclusion, the Battle of the Mid-Range GPUs comes down to performance vs. price. If you’re willing to spend a bit more for better performance and features, the Radeon RX 6600 XT is the clear winner. However, if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option that can still deliver a decent gaming experience, the Radeon RX 580 is a solid choice. Ultimately, it comes down to your budget and gaming preferences when choosing between these two mid-range GPUs.

New Year’s Eve Showdown: Wolves vs. Thunder – A Litmus Test for Minnesota’s 2025 Aspirations

Here we are, Minnesota Timberwolves Nation, standing at the crossroads of what could be a defining moment for the Timberwolves’ season and their future in 2025. It’s New Year’s Eve, and while the rest of the world is prepping for champagne toasts and poorly sung renditions of Auld Lang Syne, the Wolves have a date with the Oklahoma City Thunder. This isn’t just a regular game—it’s a litmus test, a measuring stick, a chance to see how this team stacks up against the cream of the Western Conference.

Let’s be real: when the season began, we expected this matchup to be a battle for Western Conference supremacy. Instead, it’s been a tale of two teams. The Thunder have been the NBA’s darlings, boasting a 26-5 record and a roster that seems allergic to losing. Meanwhile, the Wolves have been… complicated. They’ve shown flashes of brilliance, punctuated by stretches of basketball so maddeningly inconsistent that they could make even the most loyal fans question their life choices.

But here’s the thing: as frustrating as the Wolves have been, they’re heading into this game riding a three-game winning streak. Sure, those wins against Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio felt like they were pulled from a Hallmark holiday script—heart-stopping drama with miraculous finishes—but wins are wins. And now, they face their toughest test yet: a Thunder team that’s won 15 of its last 16 games and looks like the Avengers on a basketball court.

    Keys to the Game

    1. Consistency, Consistency, Consistency

This is where the Wolves’ Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde routine needs to end. In each of their last three games, the Wolves have endured stretches of offensive droughts so painful that they could be used as evidence in a basketball court trial. Against the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs, they were able to rally and pull off wins, but OKC is not the type of team you can fall behind against. If the Wolves want to hang with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Co., they need 48 minutes of focused, mistake-free basketball. No six-minute scoring droughts. No lazy turnovers. No lapses on defense.

    2. Defense Wins Games

Oklahoma City has scored 100+ points in 18 of their last 19 games. The Wolves have the size and talent to disrupt that trend—Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, and Naz Reid can dominate the paint, while Jaden McDaniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Anthony Edwards have the defensive chops to pester OKC’s backcourt. The goal is simple: make life difficult for SGA and force someone else to beat you.

And while we’re at it, can we talk about rebounding? The Wolves need to crash the boards like it’s a Black Friday sale at Best Buy. Limit second-chance points, and don’t give the Thunder any easy buckets.

    3. Smart Offense

This is not the time for hero ball. The Wolves’ offense needs to hum like a well-oiled machine. That means ball movement, quick decisions, and taking advantage of mismatches. Anthony Edwards has the talent to take over a game, but he’ll need help. Julius Randle’s bully-ball approach can work against OKC’s smaller lineup, but it needs to be paired with smart kick-outs to open shooters like Donte DiVincenzo and NAW.

Most importantly, Chris Finch needs to be proactive with his lineups. If something’s not working, he can’t wait for the wheels to fall off before making adjustments.

    What’s at Stake?

The Western Conference standings are tighter than a pair of skinny jeans after Thanksgiving dinner. The Wolves are currently holding down the eight spot, but they’re just four games out of the No. 2 seed. That’s incredible when you consider how many games they’ve thrown away this season with uninspired play. A win in OKC would be a huge statement—not just to the league, but to themselves.

And let’s not forget the bigger picture. If the Wolves have any hope of making a deep playoff run, they’re going to have to go through teams like the Thunder. This game is more than just a New Year’s Eve showdown; it’s a preview of what lies ahead.

    Final Thoughts

This game feels like one of those moments that could define the Wolves’ season. Beat the Thunder, and you’re heading into 2025 with momentum, confidence, and the belief that you can hang with the league’s elite. Lose, and it’s another reminder that this team is still a work in progress.

Either way, Wolves fans, let’s savor the moment. This has been the best calendar year in franchise history, regardless of what happens on New Year’s Eve. That’s something to celebrate considering all the hard times this fanbase has had to endure.

Happy New Year, everyone. Here’s to a 2025 filled with fewer offensive droughts, more clutch plays, and maybe—just maybe—a deep playoff run.

On December 31st, the Minnesota Timberwolves will face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder in what promises to be an exciting matchup. Both teams are looking to end the year on a high note and secure a much-needed win.

One of the most anticipated aspects of this game is the battle between two young stars: Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder. Edwards, the 2020 #1 overall draft pick, has been making a name for himself with his explosive scoring and highlight-reel dunks. On the other hand, Gilgeous-Alexander has been leading the Thunder with his smooth ball-handling and scoring prowess.

Fans can expect a high-scoring affair as these two dynamic guards go head-to-head. Both teams will be looking to rely on their young talent to carry them to victory and set the tone for the new year.

So mark your calendars for this exciting New Year’s Eve showdown between the Timberwolves and Thunder, as Ant and Shai battle it out on the court in what is sure to be a thrilling game.
