Arsenal and Manchester United are investigating a move for Bayern Munich‘s Mathys Tel, with his desire to leave the Bundesliga side causing a flurry of activity that has also seen Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur declare their interest.
A significant issue that the Gunners must overcome is whether a loan with an option to buy is possible. Fewer clubs would be interested if it is just a loan without an option to buy.
Meanwhile, United would need to spin plates financially in order to make the move happen but they are one of Tel’s preferred options. He is understood to only want to go to a club where he will be guaranteed a certain number of minutes and who can offer him the most football may well decide his ultimate destination.
A lack of regular football is the primary reason he has pushed to leave Bayern during this January window before the deadline, with the Bavarian giants now discussing what to do next.
The 19-year-old was already on the radar of Arsenal, with plans to bring in a new forward and the player fits all their criteria, especially regarding his potential to flourish with a consistent role. Tel is two-footed and can play across the forward line, while being able to move the ball with pace and is also considered to be a good finisher.
Mikel Arteta‘s general preference has been for young signings who he can help to develop.
The news that the French under-21 international has become available surprised Arsenal due to his obvious talent.
It has naturally caused the club to look at a potential deal, and what could be done to convince Bayern to sell.
The German club would nevertheless want to keep a player of such talent, and seek to do some kind of deal where he can get the football he wants but retain the option to bring him back in the future.
Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich is being monitored by Arsenal and Chelsea (Getty Images) Tel himself is also known to be very open to Arsenal, both due to the status of the club right now, but also the possibility for football due to the thinness of Arteta’s attacking options. The latter is not the case currently with Chelsea, who are also interested in Tel, due to the abundance of players they have in the forward positions.
Arsenal are still pursuing a deal for Rosenborg’s Sverre Halseth Nypan, although they face increased competition from the likes of Aston Villa.
The Birmingham club believe they can offer a persuasive package, and potentially offer more regular and immediate first-team football.
According to recent reports, Arsenal and Manchester United are both vying for the signature of Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel. The talented midfielder has caught the eye of several top clubs with his impressive performances in the Bundesliga. However, both Arsenal and Manchester United are facing a major stumbling block in their pursuit of Tel – Bayern Munich’s reluctance to sell. The German giants are determined to hold on to their prized asset and are reportedly not interested in entertaining any offers for the player.
Despite this setback, both Arsenal and Manchester United are said to be keen on securing Tel’s services and are willing to do whatever it takes to bring him to the Premier League. It remains to be seen whether either club will be able to convince Bayern Munich to part ways with the talented midfielder.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing transfer saga as both Arsenal and Manchester United continue to battle it out for Mathys Tel’s signature.

Ohio State football is battling other schools to retain Jim Knowles
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football is doing its part to retain defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
The Buckeyes have made Knowles an offer that would make him the highest-paid defensive coordinator in college football, according to multiple reports.
Michigan’s Wink Martindale, who is in line to make $2.75 million next year, currently holds that title. Knowles currently makes $2.2 million after getting a contract extension last year.
Ohio State’s offer comes as Knowles is fielding interest from various programs.
Notre Dame and Penn State currently have defensive coordinator openings, and reports have surfaced linking Knowles to the jobs. Oklahoma is also in the mix, a source with knowledge of the situation told cleveland.com .
Knowles helped lead Ohio State to a national title this season by fielding the best defense in the country, according to multiple statistical categories.
The Buckeyes led the nation in total defense and scoring defense.
Tom Allen left Penn State to go to Clemson, which created an opening at defensive coordinator for coach James Franklin.
Notre Dame lost Al Golden to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Oklahoma’s Zac Alley left for West Virginia’s defensive coordinator opening.
The Ohio State football team is facing tough competition in their efforts to retain defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. With several schools reportedly expressing interest in hiring Knowles away from the Buckeyes, Ohio State is working hard to keep their defensive mastermind on staff.Knowles, who joined Ohio State just this past year, has already made a significant impact on the team’s defense. Under his leadership, the Buckeyes have seen improvements in their pass rush, run defense, and overall defensive performance.
However, other schools have taken notice of Knowles’ success and are vying for his services. With his reputation as a top defensive coordinator in college football, Knowles has become a sought-after candidate for head coaching positions and other high-profile coaching roles.
Ohio State is pulling out all the stops to convince Knowles to stay, offering him a competitive salary and the support he needs to continue building the Buckeyes’ defense into a dominant force. While the competition is fierce, Ohio State is determined to keep Knowles in Columbus and continue their success on the gridiron.

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) — Hundreds of the firefighters working tirelessly on the fire lines to protect lives and property in Southern California are actually serving time in prison.
As two historic wildfires raged in Southern California, Joseph McKinney and Sal Almanza were among the firefighters who rushed to help.
“Physically, it’s pretty demanding. There’s a lot of hiking, and it’s in a rough terrain,” incarcerated firefighter Joseph McKinney said.
“We often go where bulldozers and other vehicles cannot go,” Sal Almanza, who is serving a 4-year sentence at the minimum-security Fenner Canyon Conservation Camp, said.
The Visalia natives are two of California’s more than 1,000 incarcerated firefighters responding to this emergency. They are part of a state program for incarcerated men and women.
“I knew that the firefighting program was going to be the fastest avenue for me to get home to my son, so I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Firefighting has actually always been a passion of mine,” Almanza said.
Most who are eligible and choose to join can qualify for sentence reductions. They can get up to two days off their sentences for every day on a fire crew. They earn up to roughly $10 a day, plus an extra dollar during emergencies.
What to know about incarcerated firefighters working the L.A. area blazes
McKinney says he’s worked as long as 24 hours.
“It was a lot, but, you know, they keep the water coming. They keep food coming, and you know, you feed off the energy of the other guys,” McKinney said.
“We’re all proud of you, and also, we’re going to try to fight to get y’all paid,” California State Assemblymember Isaac Bryan said.
Bryan and other government officials met with some of the incarcerated firefighters at their base camp in Pasadena. The firefighters came from more than 30 camps across the state.
Bryan just introduced legislation to increase their pay.
“What AB 247 says is that if you are incarcerated, and you are actively fighting a wildfire, you are on the front line. You are on the fire line doing that lifesaving work. You should be compensated at the same rate as the lowest-paid person who is not incarcerated,” Bryan said.
McKinney and Almanza have been moved by the outpouring of support from the public.
“It just feels like sometimes you’re tucked away, you know, and no one gets to share. You don’t get to share those experiences with nobody. So when the community comes out and shows the love and the outpouring, it just really feels good; you know, it feels like someone cares and someone knows what you’re doing,” Almanza said.
One of the organizations that has advocated with and for these firefighters is the Anti-Recidivism Coalition. They helped write a bill to expunge their records.
The organization also helps run a firefighter training and reentry program that creates a pathway for a career upon release.
“I have about two years left on my sentence. By the time that it’s over, I should be pretty dialed in and know what I’m doing, so I’m excited to pursue that,” McKinney said.

The brave men and women who are currently serving on the frontlines of the wildfires raging through Southern California are not your average firefighters. These individuals are incarcerated, fighting the blazes as part of the state’s inmate firefighter program.Despite their circumstances, these incarcerated firefighters have shown incredible courage and dedication in battling the flames and protecting communities. And now, they are being moved by the outpouring of support they have received from the public.
From messages of gratitude and encouragement to donations of supplies, the public’s support has not gone unnoticed by these firefighters. Many of them have expressed their gratitude for the support, saying that it gives them the motivation to keep pushing through the grueling conditions they face on a daily basis.
It’s a powerful reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is still kindness and compassion in the world. These firefighters may be behind bars, but their efforts and sacrifices are not going unnoticed.
As the wildfires continue to rage on, let’s continue to show our support for these incarcerated firefighters and all of the brave individuals fighting to protect our communities. Together, we can make a difference and help these heroes in their time of need.

Rybakina will need ‘magic’ after battling injury in win
Elena Rybakina reached the 2023 Australian Open final but lost to Aryna Sabalenka [Reuters] Australian Open 2025
Dates: 12-26 January Venue: Melbourne Park
Coverage: Live radio commentary on Tennis Breakfast from 07:00 GMT on BBC 5 Sports Extra, plus live text commentaries on the BBC Sport website and app
Elena Rybakina says she will need some “magic” if she is to go deep at the Australian Open after struggling with a back problem in her third-round win.
Sixth seed Rybakina, runner-up at Melbourne Park two years ago, beat Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska 6-3 6-4 but needed a medical timeout after just three games.
The 25-year-old Kazakh was visibly struggling to move and needed seven match points to close out victory.
Asked afterwards if her back was OK, Rybakina replied: “Not really. I will see my physio and hopefully he does some magic.
“It’s not so good since it’s [my] lower back. Hopefully we can do everything possible.
“But for now it doesn’t seem too good, to be honest.”
Former Wimbledon champion Rybakina had a number of injury problems in 2024, struggling at various points with fatigue, illness and a back issue.
Against Yastremska, Rybakina tried to shorten the rallies and hit winners in an attempt to speed up the match – helped in part by 37 unforced errors from her opponent.
“I needed to stay there and try to hold my serve,” Rybakina said.
“I knew that it would be very difficult for me to stay long in the rally so I was trying sometimes risk a little bit more.”
Rybakina will face either Danielle Collins or Madison Keys, who play later on Saturday, in the fourth round on Monday.
‘I love tennis so much I gotta play three sets’
American eighth seed Emma Navarro joked she “can’t resist” going the distance in her matches after winning her third consecutive three-set encounter at Melbourne Park.
The 23-year-old beat former Wimbledon and US Open finalist Ons Jabeur 6-4 3-6 6-4 to reach the fourth round.
Since the start of 2024, Navarro has played 32 matches that have gone the full three sets, winning 23 of them.
“I love three sets. I love tennis so much I can’t resist, I gotta play three sets,” Navarro said.
Navarro is the daughter of billionaire businessman Ben Navarro, founder of the Sherman Financial Group, and credited her dad for her stamina, saying he would take her and her siblings on six-hour bike rides as youngsters.
“We made up a term: biking and crying,” Navarro said.
“I learned a lot of toughness growing up. A lot of thanks goes to him.”
Navarro will play Russian ninth seed Daria Kasatkina, who beat Kazakh Yulia Putintseva 7-5 6-1, next.
Rybakina will need ‘magic’ after battling injury in winElena Rybakina may have secured a hard-fought victory in her latest match, but the battle took a toll on her physically. The tennis star was seen grimacing in pain and clutching her side throughout the match, prompting concerns about her injury.
After the match, Rybakina admitted that she was struggling with a nagging injury that had been bothering her for weeks. Despite the pain, she managed to pull off a win, showcasing her resilience and determination on the court.
However, Rybakina knows that she will need some ‘magic’ to recover from her injury and continue competing at the highest level. With a busy schedule ahead, she will have to balance rest and treatment to ensure she is in top form for her next match.
Fans are hopeful that Rybakina will be able to work her magic and overcome her injury, continuing to showcase her talent and fighting spirit on the court. Only time will tell if she can summon the necessary strength and determination to push through the pain and come out victorious once again.

Instagram Stories | Kelly Osbourne
The Emmy Award winner revealed that after taking her son to the doctor, they both received a diagnosis of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), explaining the lingering symptoms they’ve been experiencing.
RSV is a common virus that infects the lungs and respiratory tract. In fact, most children encounter the virus by the time they turn 2 years old. However, RSV isn’t limited to children—it can also infect adults, according to The Mayo Clinic. For healthy adults and older children, RSV typically presents with mild symptoms similar to those of a common cold, and simple self-care measures are usually enough to manage any discomfort.
However, RSV can lead to severe infections in certain vulnerable groups, including infants under 12 months (especially those born prematurely), older adults, individuals with heart or lung conditions, and those with weakened immune systems (immunocompromised).

In today’s digital age, threats like phishing and keylogging have become increasingly prevalent, putting your personal and sensitive information at risk. But fear not, as we’ve got you covered with our latest installment of The Cybersecurity Blueprint: A Complete Defense Series – Hook and Hack: Battling Phishing and Keylogging.Phishing attacks involve tricking individuals into divulging their personal information, such as passwords or credit card details, through deceptive emails or websites. Keylogging, on the other hand, involves recording keystrokes on a compromised device to capture sensitive information.
To combat these threats, it’s essential to implement a multi-layered defense strategy. This includes:
1. Education and awareness: Train your team to recognize and avoid phishing emails and websites. Encourage them to verify the legitimacy of emails and links before clicking on them.
2. Use secure passwords: Implement strong, unique passwords for each account and consider using a password manager to securely store and manage your credentials.
3. Keep software up to date: Regularly update your operating system, antivirus software, and applications to patch vulnerabilities that cybercriminals could exploit.
4. Enable two-factor authentication: Add an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification, such as a code sent to your phone, when accessing sensitive accounts.
5. Monitor for suspicious activity: Keep an eye out for unusual account behavior, such as unrecognized logins or changes to account settings, which could indicate a phishing or keylogging attack.
By following these cybersecurity best practices, you can help protect yourself and your organization from falling victim to phishing and keylogging attacks. Stay tuned for more tips and tricks in our ongoing series, The Cybersecurity Blueprint: A Complete Defense. Stay safe and stay secure!
