2025 Men’s Beanpot Begins Monday: Here’s What You Need to Know | BU Today
Boston University plays Harvard in the opening round at TD Garden
February has arrived and with it comes one of Boston’s most iconic college sports events: the annual Men’s Beanpot, now marking its 72nd year. The ice hockey tournament pits four major greater Boston college teams against one another.
The 2025 Dunkin’ Beanpot begins Monday, February 3. The No. 10 Boston University men’s hockey team will take on the tournament’s only nonconference opponent when they play Harvard at 5 pm at TD Garden. The two teams met earlier this season in an October 19 exhibition game: a 2-2 nailbiter shoot-out.
Following Monday’s semifinal matchup, reigning champion Northeastern will battle No. 1 Boston College at 8 pm in a top-billed matchup. The winners of each game will return on Monday, February 10, at 7:30 pm to crown a champion, with the losers playing a consolation game, at 4:30 pm. “I don’t think it matters how any of the four teams are doing throughout the course of the year. This tournament takes on a life of its own,” BU head coach Jay Pandolfo (CAS’96) said during the January 27 Beanpot Media Day. “You can’t replicate this tournament anywhere else.”
Here’s what you need to know about each team heading into the semifinals:
Boston University
The Terriers have had an up-and-down season to date. Looking to fill the glaring vacancy left by last season’s departing point leaders Macklin Celebrini, winner of the 2024 Hobey Baker Award (given to the top NCAA men’s ice hockey player), and Lane Hutson, the team reloaded with a crop of new talent, including eight freshmen and two transfers. The team stands at 14-9-1 on the season, ranking third in Hockey East standings.
The program’s youth was on display throughout the roller-coaster first half of the season before they began to find their groove as the new year started. The Terriers won four straight games before the late January high-tension Boston College series, where the Terriers dropped two to their crosstown foe.
Two freshmen who have stood out for the Terriers are forward Cole Eiserman (CAS’28) and defenseman Cole Hutson (CAS’28). The two, along with forward Brandon Svoboda (SHA’28), won a gold medal as part of Team USA in the World Juniors Championship over winter break. Eiserman leads the team in goals, with 15, and Hutson leads the team in assists, with 17.
Three members of the team’s leadership group round out the top five in scoring for the Terriers. Assistant captain Quinn Hutson (SHA’26) leads the team with 30 points, followed by cocaptains Ryan Greene (COM’26) at 26 and Shane Lachance (SHA’27) at 23.
In net, goaltender Mathieu Caron (CAS’25) has started for the majority of the season, posting a .898 save percentage and a 3.17 goals-against average. Freshman goaltender Mikhail Yegorov (CAS’28), who arrived at BU just last month, earned the start in BU’s January 25 game against Boston College. He dominated in that one appearance, with 23 saves and one goal allowed.
It’s unclear whether Pandolfo will lean on experience or the hot hand for the first Beanpot game. He wasn’t shy about praising the new netminder’s performance during Beanpot media day, however.
“We gave [Yegorov] the opportunity, and I thought he was excellent. The composure, the confidence,” Pandolfo said. “Never playing a college team and playing against the No. 1 team in a hostile environment on the road, he was pretty damn good.”
When the Terriers, who own the most Beanpot Championships, with 31, take on Harvard in the opening round of play, they’ll have history on their side: they own a 30-18 Beanpot record against the Crimson. And, they are in search of their first Beanpot title since 2022, when they defeated Northeastern 1-0.

Boston College
The top-ranked Eagles enter the Beanpot with a 19-4-1 record and a 5-1 record against Beanpot teams this season. The only outlier is the team they face on Monday—Northeastern, who bested them 3-0 on November 22.
While the Eagles find themselves a national championship contender year after year, they haven’t found much success in recent Beanpots. They haven’t played in a championship game since 2019, when they lost to the Huskies 4-2, and their last Beanpot title came in 2016.
This year’s team is one of the program’s most formidable in recent memory. Its top line, which includes sophomore Gabe Perreault and freshmen James Hagens and Teddy Stiga, is one of the best in the nation. Sophomore assistant captain Ryan Leonard leads the NCAA in goals per game and is a front-runner for this year’s Hobey Baker award.
Sophomore goaltender Jacob Fowler is a brick wall in net and leads Hockey East in save percentage. He earned his sixth shutout of the year against BU on January 25.
Northeastern University
While the Huskies have the fewest Beanpot titles of the four participating teams, they’ve been on a hot streak in recent years. They’re in search of their third-straight Beanpot title, their sixth in the last seven years.
But Northeastern has skated to an underwhelming 9-12-3 record on the season, ranking ninth in Hockey East.
Forward Jack Williams leads Northeastern in scoring, with 12 goals and 17 assists, ranking fifth in the conference. The team’s top-six scorers enter the tournament with championship experience.
The Huskies are 14-34 against BC in the Beanpot, but their recent tournament magic and experience defeating the Eagles earlier this season could be all they need to pull off a win.
Harvard University
The Crimson are the only non–Hockey East team in the tournament and their 7-11-2 record places them sixth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Harvard has won 11 Beanpot titles, their most recent in 2017, marking the longest drought among the four teams.
The last time BU and Harvard met in the semifinals, the Terriers won 4-3, en route to the 2022 championship.
Junior forward Joe Miller leads the Crimson in scoring, with 15 points, while junior Casey Severo leads the team in goals, with 8. The team runs a two-goalie system, with freshman Ben Charette, who owns a .920 save percentage, and junior Aku Koskenvuo, who is at .903.
A key for Harvard will be discipline since their 41st-ranked penalty kill may struggle against BU’s 7th-ranked power play. Luckily for the Crimson, the team owns the second-least penalty minutes per game in the NCAA.
The BU Student Alumni Association is hosting a free watch party for students at Sunset Cantina during the Beanpot semifinal game, starting at 4:30 pm. Light appetizers will be provided. Advance registration is required; register here. The first 100 students to arrive will receive a specialty Beanpot swag item.
The 72nd Dunkin’ Men’s Beanpot semifinal games are Monday, February 3, at TD Garden, 100 Legends Way, Boston. BU will take on Harvard at 5 pm; Northeastern will face BC at 8 pm. The consolation and championship games will be Monday, February 10, at 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm. All games will be played at TD Garden. #Mens #Beanpot #Begins #Monday #Heres #TodayTrade war begins: After Trump’s tariffs, Canada province bans US firms & dumps Musk’s Starlink
Canada’s Ontario on Monday banned US firms from government contracts in a move that will scrap $100-million deal with Elon Musk‘s Starlink.
Doug Ford, premier of Ontario, said the ban would persist unless the Trump administration lifts recently imposed tariffs on Canada.
Last year, the Doug dispensation had inked an agreement with Musk, who is a key part of the Trump government, to deliver high-speed internet to remote residents in rural and northern Ontario.
“Every year, the Ontario government and its agencies spend $30 billion on procurement, alongside our $200 billion plan to build Ontario. US-based businesses will now lose out on tens of billions of dollars in new revenues. They only have President Trump to blame. We’re going one step further. We’ll be ripping up the province’s contract with Starlink. Ontario won’t do business with people hellbent on destroying our economy. Canada didn’t start this fight with the U.S., but you better believe we’re ready to win it,” the Ontario premier wrote on X.Earlier, Ford announced that his officials would soon be removing American products from provincial liquor store shelves.
His statement came a day after British Columbia Premier David Eby announced that the local authority will stop buying liquor from US Republican states.
Canada’s move is in retaliation to Trump’s sweeping new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and China, a move that has triggered sharp reactions from global leaders and financial markets.
The tariffs, which Trump says are aimed at protecting American workers and industries, have sparked fears of economic retaliation from affected countries.
Meanwhile, Trump said that he would talk to Trudeau at 3.00 PM about drug pouring through the borders of Canada.
“Canada doesn’t even allow U.S. Banks to open or do business there. What’s that all about? Many such things, but it’s also a DRUG WAR, and hundreds of thousands of people have died in the U.S. from drugs pouring through the Borders of Mexico and Canada. Just spoke to Justin Trudeau. Will be speaking to him again at 3:00 PM,” Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social.
In response to President Trump’s recent tariffs on Canadian goods, the province of Ontario has announced a ban on all US-based companies and has decided to cut ties with Elon Musk’s Starlink project. This move comes as a retaliation to the escalating trade war between the two countries, with Ontario officials citing the need to protect their own economy and interests. The decision to ban US firms and sever ties with Starlink has sparked controversy and debate within the province, with some critics claiming that the move will only serve to further damage the already strained relationship between Canada and the US. However, Ontario officials have stood by their decision, stating that they will not stand idly by while their economy suffers as a result of Trump’s tariffs.
The trade war between the US and Canada shows no signs of slowing down, and Ontario’s bold stance against US companies is just the latest development in what could be a long and tumultuous battle. As tensions continue to rise, it remains to be seen how this trade war will ultimately impact both countries and the global economy as a whole.

Investigation begins after deadly medical jet crash in Philly – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
A day after the tragedy, transportation officials warned the crash site of a Jet Rescue Air Ambulance in Northeast Philadelphia could remain an active scene for days or even weeks.
“I want to stress this was a high-impact crash, and the plane is highly fragmented,” said National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.
Homendy said their focus is finding the cockpit voice recorder.
The agency hopes it provides answers about why the Learjet 55 took a nosedive less than a minute after departing northeast Philadelphia airport.
“The condition could be fragmented, could be damaged. I will say that we have an incredible team at our headquarters, our office of research and engineering who have significant expertise in repairing damaged cockpit voice recorders and flight data recorders. In fact, we’re known throughout the world. Other countries send their black boxes to us to fix. And so hopefully, once we can find it, that’s the biggest question right now, we can take that back to our lab and evaluate it,” she said.
A spokesperson for the air ambulance company said they were transporting a pediatric patient, who had come to the U.S. for life-saving treatment, home to Mexico.
The patient, an escort, and four crew members died in the fiery collision, along with one person on the ground.
Philadelphia’s mayor said 19 others were injured.
The NTSB has ruled the crash an accident, though it’s still working to determine a cause.
“My initial thoughts are that there’s some kind of an elevator issue with the airplane causing it to pitch down and the pilots not being able to arrest the descent,” said aviation attorney and pilot Ladd Sanger.
Sanger said the agency could consider several scenarios.
“First, the weather was pretty poor from a visibility standpoint, and there have been business jet crashes where, on takeoff, the pilots got spatial disorientation and lost control of the airplane. I’ve also worked on cases where there has been an autopilot malfunction,” he said.
Sanger said there’s also the possibility of a bird or drone strike or ice accumulation. It’s just too soon to know.
Saturday, Secretary Of Transportation Sean Duffy shared a video to “X” saying he’s committed to transparency.
“In the coming days, we’re going to have more announcements. I want Americans to feel confident in American air travel,” said Secretary Duffy.
The FAA is working with the NTSB to investigate the crash.
Investigation begins after deadly medical jet crash in Philly – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort WorthAuthorities in Philadelphia have launched an investigation following a tragic medical jet crash that resulted in multiple fatalities. The incident, which occurred on Monday afternoon, has left the local community in shock and mourning.
According to reports from NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, the medical jet was on its way to pick up a patient when it crashed shortly after takeoff. The cause of the crash is still unknown, and investigators are working diligently to determine what went wrong.
The crash has raised concerns about the safety of medical flights and the training of pilots who operate these critical missions. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging the public to remain patient and allow the experts to do their work.
Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragic accident. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.

Pregame Primer: Creighton Begins Second Half of Big East Play at Villanova
After 10 league games, Creighton has played everyone else in the league once and has an 8-2 record. Their first rematch comes on Saturday in Philadelphia against Villanova, who has also played everyone once and owns a 5-5 mark. The Wildcats are 4-1 at home, including a 68-66 win over UConn; conversely, they’re 1-4 on the road.
It’s the start of a brutal five-game stretch for the Bluejays, where they’ll play at Villanova, Providence and St. John’s, with home games against Marquette and UConn sandwiched in the middle — all in the span of 15 days. If they come out of that with three or more wins, they’ll not only cement themselves as threats to win the Big East regular season title, but likely move up a seed line or two in NCAA Tournament projections. And the final five games of the regular season include home games against Butler and DePaul, plus a Georgetown team they’ll be ready to exact revenge on. Oh, and a road game at last-place Seton Hall is sitting out there, too.
That makes the next two weeks the pivot point for the season.
“This stretch is difficult,” Greg McDermott said on his postgame radio show after Wednesday’s game. “The good news is, you know, Villanova is relatively simple in what they do. Doesn’t mean it’s easy to stop — it’s very difficult to stop with Eric Dixon running around. So we’re gonna have to be locked into our plan. We shot the ball really well and were able to create some threes against them the first time, and we’re gonna have to duplicate that if we expect to be successful.”
Ah yes, Eric Dixon. He’s the one puzzle Ryan Kalkbrenner has never been able to solve, the best version of the exact type of player who gives them the most trouble: a mobile big man who’s comfortable shooting midrange jumpers and threes. On December 21 when these teams met in Omaha — Kalkbrenner’s ninth game against Dixon — Creighton decided to try something new. They stuck the 6’8” Jasen Green on him instead, hoping Green’s quickness and athleticism would be better suited for chasing Dixon off the line. And if it worked, it would free up Kalkbrenner to stay home near the rim and keep other Wildcats from getting easy shots.
He scored 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three. No one could call that a success and be taken seriously. But keeping Kalkbrenner inside did help them make everyone else’s jobs harder. Here’s the shot chart from that game; Villanova had some success at the rim, and almost no success from anywhere else in the paint. The rest of their two-pointers were mid-range jumpers. McDermott’s comments after the game made the same observations.
“I thought Jasen made Eric Dixon’s life really hard and we shortened the bench a little bit tonight for that reason. We wanted Jasen on him as much as possible,” McDermott said on his postgame radio show that night. “But you have to stay connected to Dixon. He’s gotten so good at reading. If you switch and you’re on top, he’ll roll to the basket. If you’re under, he’s going to post you, and now you’ve got a smaller guy on him, and he backs him in. We were staying attached to him, but as a result, the other guys hit some mid-range stuff.”
Dixon is averaging 24.6 points per game and is the nation’s leading scorer. He’s scored 183 points in nine all-time meetings against the Jays (that’s 20.3 points per game), scoring 30 or more twice. He’s scored 20 points or more in each of his last six meetings against Creighton, the longest streak by any Bluejay opponent since Evansville’s Colt Ryan did it in five straight meetings from 2010-12. Ryan is also the only opponent since 1996-97 to score more points against the Jays than Dixon has; Ryan scored 201 in a maddening career where he torched CU time after time. Dixon has made 25-of-50 three-pointers (.500) in his career against CU, 11 more makes than what he’s done against any other school.
In league games, four of the Wildcats five starters have averaged in double figures: Dixon (23.4 ppg), Jordan Longino (14.9 ppg), Wooga Poplar (13.7 ppg) and Jhamir Brickus (10.3 ppg). That quartet has scored 623 of Nova’s 742 Big East points (84%). They’ve also shouldered the heaviest load in minutes with Dixon and Longino averaging 35.7 and 35.0 minutes per game, while Poplar checks in at 30.7 mpg and Brickus is at 30.3 mpg.
But after getting out to a 4-1 start (with the only loss coming to Creighton) they’ve gone 1-4 since. They shot 50 percent or better from the field in three of its first four league games, but they’ve been held below 43.3% in all six games since. And 43 of their 90 turnovers in league games have come in the last four contests.
Poplar is shooting 38% from three-point range and averaging 13.6 points with a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game. He scored 19 in Omaha on 7-of-12 shooting, but did most of his damage inside with four made shots inside the restricted area. Poplar also had 10 of Villanova’s 28 rebounds.
Brickus added 16 points in that game, making 7-of-13 from the floor and 2-of-3 from three. He scored 10 points in the game’s first eight minutes, including a pair of threes, while Steven Ashworth was his primary defender. At the under-12 timeout the Jays shifted Jamiya Neal onto him, and shut his water off as Brickus scored just six more points the rest of the day. That bears watching in the rematch — will they start Neal on him this time? Or go back to Ashworth as his primary defender so that Neal can try to shut down Poplar? For the season, Brickus is averaging 11.0 points and 5.6 assists per game while shooting 49.4% (42-of-85) from three-point range and 50% overall (87-of-174).
Longino was the one player CU managed to hold in check in the first meeting. He scored nine points on 4-of-12 shooting, including 1-of-5 from three. He’s averaging 11.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, and shooting 35.9% from three (33-of-92). But he’s coming off a 27 point, seven assist game against Marquette, and over the last seven games he’s averaging 15.9 ppg. Longino is 40-of-78 from the field in that span (.513), including 16-of-33 (.485) from beyond the 3-point arc.
Defensively, Villanova doesn’t force a lot of turnovers (15.5% of opponent’s possessions, 296th in D1). That bared out in the first meeting, as CU had just seven turnovers, a season low at the time (they later equaled it at Butler). They also don’t do much to disrupt passing lanes; their opponents have had an assist on 60.4% of made baskets, 336th in D1. Creighton tied a season-high with 22 assists, and with an assist on 70.9% of their made baskets it’s their best mark of the year so far. That ball movement paid off — their 14 made three-pointers were a season high at the time (since equaled against Providence), and their 56.0% shooting percentage from three is their best of the year.
Their adjusted defensive efficiency ranks 181st at 107.2. Opponents have generally had success in the paint, shooting 48.6% on two-pointers thanks to a lack of real rim protection or the threat of a shot blocker to alter shots. But their pace is still vintage Villanova — their average possession length is over 19 seconds long, and their adjusted tempo is just 63.2 (346th slowest in D1).

In the first meeting, Villanova got just eight points from players outside of their big four (Dixon, Poplar, Brickus and Longino).
Only four Villanova players have averaged 20 points or more in a regular season since Tom Ingelsby averaged 25.5 points per game in 1972-73. Kerry Kittles did it in 1994-95 (21.4 ppg) and 1995-96 (20.4 ppg), Michael Bradley hit that mark in 2000-01 (20.8 ppg) and Randy Foye averaged 20.5 ppg in 2005-06. Dixon is currently averaging 24.6 points.
VU is 10-2 this season (.833) and 27-7 (.794) since the start of 2023-24 when holding teams to fewer than 70 points in a game. The Wildcats are 2-7 (.286) in 2024-25 when teams score 70 or more in a contest and 3-18 (.143) in that spot in the last two seasons.
Isaac Traudt has scored in double-figures in four of his last five games. His four gams in double-figures as a reserve during league play are tied for the Big East lead this season. Traudt and Jackson McAndrew, who typically share the minutes at the “4” for Creighton, have averaged a combined 14.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 39.0 minutes per contest during CU’s six-game win streak.
In league play this season, Creighton leads the league with 10.00 three-pointers per game and is second with 37.9 percent marksmanship from deep. Villanova is second with 9.50 three-pointers per game, while the Wildcats are tops with 39.4 percent accuracy from downtown. The first time these teams met this season, Creighton made 14-of-25 trifectas (56 percent), while Villanova was 8-for-20 (40 percent). Defensively, Creighton has allowed a league-low 64 three-pointers in BIG EAST play, but Villanova’s 96 allowed are second-most.
Creighton has established a season-high by winning six games in a row, and can grow that total with a seventh straight win on Saturday. Creighton has now had at least one streak of five or more wins (including non-conference games) in 26 of the last 28 seasons (including 2024-25).
Villanova leads the all-time series with Creighton, 19-10, including an 11-3 mark in Pennsylvania. But CU is 3-2 inside Wells Fargo Center against the Wildcats, and that’s where Saturday’s game will take place.
On February 1, 2012 the 12th ranked Bluejays thumped Illinois State 102-74 to move to 21-2 and 11-1 in the Valley. From Ott’s Thoughts after the game:
“Things started well for Creighton Wednesday, and only got better as the night wore on. Grant Gibbs reached deep into his bag of playground hoops tricks, threw the ball of a defender’s turned back on an inbounds play, and laid the loose ball up for Creighton’s second hoop of the night. The evening ended with Ross Ferrarini hitting back-to-back triples to hit the century mark and fellow Bench Mob member Matt Dorwart knocking down two free throws to push CU’s total to 102 points. In between, the Bluejays treated fans to arguably the best offensive performance in recent program history.
Hyperbole? Hardly. It wasn’t just shooting 56% from the field, 52% from three-point range, and 84% from the free throw line. It was passing up good shots for great ones. It was the effectiveness of almost every lineup combination Greg McDermott put on the court. It was his son, Doug, having a monster game (again), while guards Gibbs and Antoine Young (7 assists apiece) facilitated an efficient offensive machine.
The Bluejays assisted on 22 of 31 made baskets, while committing just 9 turnovers. Led by McDermott’s 25 points (on 9-11 shooting, including a perfect 3-3 from three-point range), six CU players hit double-figures in points. Gibbs added 12 points to his 7 assists and 4 rebounds. Gregory Echenique played only 17 minutes put scored 10 points and grabbed 6 boards. Jahenns Manigat shook off some tenderness in his knee and knocked down 3 of his 4 three-pointers en route to 11 points. Josh Jones scored 10 points off the bench, and Will Artino scored 11 points without missing a shot from the field (3-3) or the charity stripe (5-5).”
The Bottom Line:
Saturday’s game is basically a toss-up; KenPom predicts a one-point Villanova win with 48% odds of victory, while ESPN’s BPI gives Creighton a slight edge with 50.6% odds of winning. There was no Vegas line at the time we hit publish.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Alijah Martin is the oldest player on the Florida basketball team. He was 14 years old on Feb. 11, 2014, the last time the Gators beat Tennessee on the road. He was in middle school.
The rest of Martin’s current teammates were in elementary school.
Of course, none of this has anything to do with Saturday’s hotly anticipated Southeastern Conference brawl between the fifth-ranked Gators (18-2, 5-2) and eighth-ranked Volunteers (17-4, 4-4) at sold-out Thompson-Boling Arena. Some really good UF players – and a couple pretty good UF teams – are part of the Gators’ seven-game road losing skid in the series that dates to 2016.
[Read senior writer Chris Harry‘s “Pregame Stuff” setup story here]
But this Florida team – the one that went unbeaten in non-league play, annihilated then-No. 1-ranked UT by 30 in their Jan. 7 meeting at Gainesville and has planted itself in the Associated Press Top 5 with magnificent metrics on both ends of the floor – looks like UF’s best edition since the remarkable, senior-laden 2013-14 squad that went to Rocky Top and came away with a 67-58 victory on the way to winning 30 straight games and reaching the Final Four.
Most current postseason projections and prognostications list UF as a contender for a seed on the No. 2 line in the NCAA Tournament. Winning games like this one – on the road, against a feisty foe that’s lost two straight and has revenge on its mind – would be a major boost to the resume and a nice leadoff at-bat to a run of four consecutive games against ranked opponents, something the Gators have never undertaken in a regular season in their history.

- at No. 1 Auburn (19-1, 7-0), Feb. 8
- at No. 14 Mississippi State (16-5, 4-3), Feb. 11
It’s only right that this historically challenging stretch begins at a place that’s been a personal house of horrors for the Gators the last decade, with the 11-year road drought at UT their longest against any league opponent.
“It’s one of the hardest places to play in America, so if we can go in there and win it would be similar to last year at Rupp [Arena], that’s how I would look at it,” UF coach Todd Golden said, drawing comparisons to one of his team’s signature ’24 victories when the Gators stared down Kentucky in overtime. “Just going into one of the best venues in college basketball and holding onto your guts for 40 or 45 minutes, whatever it takes, to find a way to win. Yeah, it would be a great feather to put in our cap, and I think if we can somehow find a way to win Saturday, we – at this time – should be a No. 1 seed, being honest.”
It would take a gun to the head of most coaches to make such a strong statement in January, but Golden’s confidence is the lifeblood of his program. His belief (in his players and system) is the foundation of the Florida culture.
The Gators’ haven’t been a No. 1 NCAA Tournament seed since 2014.
Yes, the last year they won at Rocky Top.CHARTING THE GATORS: Checkered past on checkerboard floor

The expressions worn by Kerry Blackshear (foreground) and Tre Mann (background) coming off the court in 2020 pretty much sum up the frustration for the Gators over the last decade in games played at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.

Fortnite OG Season 2 Trailer And Battle Pass Skins

OG Skins
If any new information about Fortnite OG Season 2 releases before tomorrow, I’ll update this post. I keep hoping that Epic Games will bring back the old-school challenges that made early seasons of this game so much fun. Finding secret loading screens, hidden treasures and all the other creative challenges the game used to do was a lot of fun but it’s been years now since anything like this was a major component of the popular Battle Royale. Still, it’ll be fun to dive back into Tilted, get into gunfights in Haunted Hills and Shifty Shafts and discover whatever else the game has up its sleeve.
Attention all Fortnite OGs! The highly anticipated Season 1 of Chapter 2 is coming to an end, and Season 2 is just around the corner. But when exactly will the transition occur? The exact time that Season 1 will end and Season 2 will begin is on Thursday, February 20 at 2 a.m. ET. So mark your calendars and get ready to dive into a whole new chapter of Fortnite.
Season 2 promises to bring exciting new content, challenges, and surprises for players to enjoy. So make sure to hop on Fortnite and experience the transition firsthand.
Don’t miss out on the epic conclusion of Season 1 and the thrilling start of Season 2. See you on the battlefield, Fortnite OGs!

Nvidia stock begins recovery after DeepSeek AI frenzy prompted near $600 billion loss
Nvidia (NVDA) stock rose nearly 9% Tuesday as the AI chipmaker began to recover from a massive decline the prior day that shaved nearly $600 billion off its market cap.
Nvidia’s 17% freefall Monday was prompted by investor anxieties related to a new, cost-effective artificial intelligence model from the Chinese startup DeepSeek. Some Wall Street analysts worried that the cheaper costs DeepSeek claimed to have spent training its latest AI models, due in part to using fewer AI chips, meant US firms were overspending on artificial intelligence infrastructure.
That created a concern among the investment community that Nvidia’s high GPU (graphics processing unit, or AI chip) prices could come under pressure and that demand for semiconductors could wane.
Nvidia’s $589 billion market cap decline was the largest single-day loss in stock market history.
The DeepSeek announcements drove down not only Nvidia but the market at large, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq (^IXIC) dropping 3%. Chip stocks dropped across the board Monday, but some names began to recover. After dropping more than 17% to start the week, Broadcom (AVGO) rose 2.6% Tuesday.
Nvidia itself didn’t express much anxiety over the DeepSeek buzz, calling R1 “an excellent AI advancement” in a statement Monday.

Credit: DeeCee Carter/MediaPunch /IPX · DeeCee Carter/MediaPunch/MediaPunch/IPx Wall Street analysts continued to reflect on the DeepSeek-fueled market rout Tuesday, expressing skepticism over DeepSeek’s reportedly low costs to train its AI models and the implications for AI stocks.
JPMorgan analyst Harlan Sur and Citi analyst Christopher Danley said in separate notes to investors that because DeepSeek used a process called “distillation” — in other words, it relied on Meta’s (META) open-source Llama AI model to develop its model — the low spending cited by the Chinese startup (under $6 billion to train its recent V3 model) did not fully encompass its costs.
“We believe it is crucial to validate these costs before drawing conclusions,” Sur wrote.
Danley added: “Given Deepseek is based on leveraging cloud service providers [Meta] and AI is still in its infancy, we lean towards the argument of continued strong growth in AI spending.”
Even so, DeepSeek “clearly doesn’t have access to as much compute as US hyperscalers and somehow managed to develop a model that appears highly competitive,” Raymond James analyst Srini Pajjuri wrote in a note to investors Monday.

Nvidia stock has started a steady recovery after the recent DeepSeek AI frenzy caused the tech giant to suffer a near $600 billion loss in market value.Investors were initially spooked by the sudden surge in interest surrounding DeepSeek AI, a new artificial intelligence technology that has been hailed as a game-changer in the industry. This led to a massive sell-off of Nvidia shares, causing the stock price to plummet.
However, in the days following the initial panic, Nvidia stock has shown signs of resilience and has begun to claw back some of its lost value. The company’s strong fundamentals and solid track record have helped to reassure investors that the recent downturn was more of a temporary blip than a long-term trend.
Analysts are now cautiously optimistic about Nvidia’s prospects moving forward, with many predicting that the stock will continue to rebound in the coming weeks. While the DeepSeek AI frenzy may have caused some turbulence in the market, it seems that Nvidia is well-positioned to weather the storm and emerge stronger than ever.

#Nvidia #stock #begins #recovery #DeepSeek #frenzy #prompted #billion #lossAfter a minor break and some dog sledding, Nelly Korda begins follow-up to historic season
The LPGA is kicking off its 2025 campaign this week, but it didn’t feel like much of an offseason for Nelly Korda.
The world No. 1 said Tuesday she only put the clubs away for seven days, following her appearance with her father in the PNC Championship, which concluded Dec. 22.
During that week, Korda said she spent time with family, cooked and even did some dog sledding in Utah.
“That was more of like a one-and-done situation,” Korda said of the snowy excursion. “It was really cool experience, but I will probably never be doing that ever again.”
What she’d love to do again, however, is repeat her performance of last season. Korda won seven times on tour, including her second career major. Five of those triumphs came in successive starts, tying a tour record.
“Very, very, very crazy” – three verys – was how she described 2024. For all the highs, the season also had its share of lows with a few injuries and some major mishaps. Ultimately, she said it was a “learning experience,” encompassing everything from not focusing on others’ expectations to properly managing her schedule.
Korda will play this week’s limited-field tournament at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Florida, and then next week at her home in Bradenton, for the Founders Cup. She’ll again skip the tour’s early-year, three-event Asia swing, and return to action for her title defenses at the Ford Championship, T-Mobile Match Play and Chevron Championship.
Korda will only get a chance this season to defend five of her seven victories. The Drive On Championship – her first win of ’24 – was contested at Bradenton Country Club. That site remains but is now hosting the rescheduled Founders Cup, which is officially Rose Zhang’s tournament to defend.
Also removed from the schedule is the Fir Hills Se Ri Pak Championship, which was part of Korda’s early-2024 title run.
She doesn’t focus too much on past success, though, noting how much can change from one year to the next. “I mean, the field is different. There [are] different girls in the field. Weather is different. Golf course could be different. There are so many variabilities that just completely changes it,” she said.
This is one tournament Korda has never won (though, her sister, Jessica, did in 2021). Nelly tied for 16th last year in the event which is open to LPGA winners over the last two years and includes a concurrent, 72-hole celebrity portion.
In part to Korda’s dominance, this year’s LPGA field stands at 32 players.
Armed with “a little bit of equipment changes,” including a new driver, her follow-up to a historic season begins on Thursday — a perfect soft launch.
“It’s a different, relaxed vibe,” she said, “and no better way to start off the year than playing in this event.”
After a well-deserved break following her historic 2021 season, Nelly Korda is back and ready to continue her dominance on the LPGA Tour. The 23-year-old American golfer took some time off to recharge and even tried her hand at dog sledding in the snowy mountains.Korda made headlines last year when she won three LPGA Tour events, including her first major championship at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. She also represented Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics, where she finished tied for 15th.
Now, with a refreshed mindset and renewed focus, Korda is setting her sights on even greater achievements in the upcoming season. She has been putting in the work on the practice range and is eager to showcase her skills on the course once again.
Fans and fellow competitors alike are excited to see what Korda will accomplish next, as she continues to solidify her place among the top players in women’s golf. Stay tuned for updates on her progress as she embarks on the next chapter of her already impressive career.
