    Ben Simmons Ruled Out in Matchup Against Philadelphia 76ers


    Following their West Coast swing, the Philadelphia 76ers return East to finish out their road trip. Next up on the schedule is a meeting against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays center.

    Whenever the Sixers face off against the Nets, the biggest storyline is Ben Simmons. The former No. 1 pick started his career in Philly before eventually being dealt to Brooklyn at the 2022 trade deadline for James Harden.

    Since being traded, Simmons has faced off agianst his former team on numerous occasions. However, that will not be the case on Saturday. Despite not originally being on the inury report, the Nets ruled him out just before tip-off due to calf soreness.

    Simmons has yet to return to form following the move to the Nets. He has gotten a bigger role as of late due to their recent trades, but will be on the sidelines against the Sixers. On the season, Simmons is averaging 5.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 6.9 APG.

    The former All-Star is among multiple Nets players who won’t be suiting up on Saturday, most notably Cam Johnson and Cam Thomas. Due to them being shorthanded, the main player the Sixers will have to zero in on is newly acquired D’Angelo Russell.

    Following a shaky back-to-back against the Warriors and Kings, the Sixers find themselves in a good position to get back in the win column. Along with being out a handful of their top performers, Brooklyn sits at 13-21 on the year and is 3-7 over their last ten games.

    Joel Embiid and company cannot let an opportunity to secure a win slip by against this struggling Nets team. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 pm Eastern Time.

    Ben Affleck is an Accomplished Director

    Movie fans can sometimes forget that Affleck is a very talented director and writer. He and long-time friend Matt Damon each won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for their Good Will Hunting script. Unfortunately, Affleck regularly ends up with gossip-style news coverage.

    But there was a five-year stretch where Affleck directed three instant classic films, some of which he co-wrote or starred in: Gone Baby Gone (2007), The Town (2010), and Argo (2012), the latter of which won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture at the 2013 Oscars.

    Gone Baby Gone was Affleck’s major feature debut as a director and is based on the 1998 novel by Dennis Lehane. The film, set in and around Boston, stars his brother, Casey, and Michelle Monaghan as private detectives searching for an abducted young girl. The all-star cast also includes Morgan Freeman, Amy Ryan, and Ed Harris. It’s certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% positive rating from critics and 86% from critics. Ryan was nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar for her role.

    Oscar-winner Argo is based on the real-life events of how a CIA agent, Tony Mendez (Affleck) helped six American hostages escape Tehran during the Iran hostage crisis, who were being held safe by the Canadian Ambassador. Mendez pretended to be a Hollywood producer looking to film a sci-fi movie and the hostages were part of the ‘crew.’ Despite not winning a Best Director Academy Award, Affleck walked away with multiple other awards, including at the British Academy Awards.

    Ben Affleck is having a happy holiday season. 

    Months after his ex Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce, Affleck, 52, is “healthy, single and enjoying life,” a source exclusively tells PEOPLE. 

    As 2025 approaches, the actor-filmmaker is enjoying quality time with Violet Anne, 19 — on break from her first year at Yale University — as well as Seraphina Rose, 15, and Samuel, 12, his kids shared with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.

    “Ben is spending the holiday with his children and is excited to have Violet home for break,” the insider tells PEOPLE.

    Affleck and Garner, 52, have been spotted together this month after spending Thanksgiving as a family, when they and their kids served free meals to the Los Angeles homeless community at The Midnight Mission‘s annual Thanksgiving Street Fair.

    Garner, who is dating businessman John Miller, “truly just wants her kids to be happy,” a source shared with PEOPLE. “She will continue to make sure that they spend time together as a family and include Ben… The kids enjoy when they all spend time together.”

    Speaking to PEOPLE earlier this month, Garner said that cooking, seeing a production of The Nutcracker and “just being together with family” were among her priorities this holiday season. “I have one kid who specializes in mashed potatoes, that’s their specialty. I have one kid who is all about making an apple pie, that’s their specialty, and then I have one who goodness only knows what she will make,” the Deadpool & Wolverine star said.

    Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck in August. The former couple, following an initial romance and engagement that ended in 2004, were married in July 2022. A source close to the actress-musician told PEOPLE that she “has had a rough year but is doing well. She’s ready for Christmas and to start the new year fresh.”

    Affleck recently joined both Lopez and Garner at a school play featuring Seraphina and Lopez’s child Emme, per TMZ. The Oscar winner has been filming The Accountant 2, due in theaters April 25, 2025.

    His other movie projects as a producer alongside Matt Damon are Unstoppable (in theaters now and streaming on Prime Video Jan. 16, 2025) and Kiss of the Spider Woman, which both star Lopez.
