    Bill Nelson has stepped down as NASA administrator, ending a half-century of public service.

  • Billy Corgan and Bill Burr Address If They’re Half-Brothers


    A couple months ago, Billy Corgan told Howie Mandel that comedian Bill Burr could very well be his half-brother. With Burr as the latest guest on his podcast, Mandel surprised the funnyman with a visit from the Smashing Pumpkins frontman — leading to a meeting of the two Bills.

    On the November episode, Mandel’s production team erroneously put up a photo of Burr during Corgan’s turn on the podcast, leading the alt-rock legend to disclose that he may be related to his celebrity look-alike.

    “Most of my friends don’t even know this story,” began Corgan. “About 10 years ago, one of my brothers was having a birthday party, and my stepmother was there, who was obviously married to my father. And my stepmother said to me, ‘Do you know who Bill Burr is?’ Now at that point, I had never heard of Bill Burr; I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t know he was a comedian or anything. He could have been the guy down the street.”

    The singer-guitarist continued, “I thought the first thing she was going to say was, ‘Oh, I thought you’d notice the resemblance. She goes, ‘I think it might be one of your father’s illegitimate children. Bill Burr might be one of the children that your father sired in his days being a traveling musician.’ This is a true story. I’m not making this up; there is no joke in this.”

    Fast-forward to the new episode of the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast, and 30 minutes into his conversation with Burr, he says, “I got something special that I planned for you,” at which point he brings out Corgan, who walks over and greets Burr, who says, “What’s up,” to Corgan, and, “You’re an asshole,” to Mandel.

    Mandel quips, “I thought you would be cool with me bringing the family together.” Burr then went on to chastise Corgan for letting the family secret out of the bag.

  • Billy Corgan and Bill Burr Address ‘Half-Brother’ Rumors


    Billy Corgan and Bill Burr found themselves at the center of an unexpected family mystery during their recent appearance on Howie Mandel Does Stuff.

    The Smashing Pumpkins frontman and the comedian were sprung with a surprise meeting organised by Mandel, during which the pair discussed their uncanny resemblance, along with the suggestion they might share a father.

    The saga began back in November when Corgan appeared on the podcast and a mix-up by Mandel’s production team displayed a photo of Burr during his segment. This prompted Corgan to share a bizarre anecdote involving his stepmother, who had once suggested Burr might be one of his father’s illegitimate children.

    “About 10 years ago, one of my brothers was having a birthday party, and my stepmother was there, who was obviously married to my father. And my stepmother said to me, ‘Do you know who Bill Burr is?,’” Corgan recalled at the time. “Now at that point, I had never heard of Bill Burr; I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t know he was a comedian or anything. He could have been the guy down the street.”

    He continued, “She said, ‘Well, he’s this comedian.’ And I think I even somehow called up a picture on the phone, and I kind of noticed right away, ‘Gee, he kind of looks like my father.’ Bill Burr looks more like my father than Bill Burr looks like me or I look like Bill Burr. So I said to my mother, ‘Why are you asking me this?’”

    “She goes, ‘I think it might be one of your father’s illegitimate children. Bill Burr might be one of the children that your father sired in his days being a traveling musician,’” he said.

    Fast-forward to January, when Mandel orchestrated a surprise reunion between Corgan and Burr, bringing them together for the first time. Burr greeted the rocker with a casual “What’s up?” before turning to Mandel with mock irritation, quipping, “You’re an a——.” The conversation quickly turned into comedic gold as the two riffed on their supposed familial connection.

    “Did you ever think the fact that I never told that story, that maybe you shouldn’t?” Burr joked to Corgan. “It’s not that I don’t like [Corgan], it reminds me of all of that s—.”

    Corgan joined in, dismissing the idea that their resemblance could mean they’re related. “The fact that he said he can’t sing, I think, disproves that we’re related, ’cause I’m not funny,” he remarked. “So… it goes both ways.” At one point, Mandel even suggested that Burr should join the Smashing Pumpkins as a drummer.

    Burr then asked Mandel, “What was supposed to happen? Are we gonna go play catch? We’re both in our fifties.”

    While the attempted family reunion may not have been successful, Corgan’s career with the Smashing Pumpkins continues to thrive, with the band’s legacy cemented by hits like “1979,” which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” which reached No. 22. Their double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning critical acclaim and commercial success as one of the defining records of the 1990s.The album has since achieved Diamond certification, selling over 10 million copies worldwide.

    In 2024, The Smashing Pumpkins released their 13th studio album, Aghori Mhori Mei, which saw a return to their early 90s sound with original members Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha.

  • Billionaire Bill Ackman Thinks Donald Trump Could Make These 2 Stocks Big Winners — and Both Are Already Up Over 6X in the Last 12 Months


    Billionaire Bill Ackman isn’t as much of an activist investor as he used to be. However, he still doesn’t mind trying to influence corporate executives to take steps that would boost their companies’ share prices when it would make money for his hedge fund.

    Ackman recently took activist investing to an even higher level. He wants — and expects — President-elect Donald Trump to make two stocks in his Pershing Square Capital Management portfolio big winners. Both stocks have already delivered gains of more than 6x in the last 12 months.

    Two powerhouse government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs)

    Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA 2.39%) (commonly known as Fannie Mae) and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FMCC 5.08%) (commonly known as Freddie Mac) are government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs). It takes an act of Congress to create a GSE. They’re privately held but provide financial services that benefit the public.

    Fannie Mae was given a federal charter in 1938 to provide funds for housing. It doesn’t lend directly to borrowers. Instead, the GSE guarantees residential mortgage securities made by other lenders and then issues and guarantees mortgage-backed securities for investors to buy.

    Freddie Mac is a much younger sibling to Fannie Mae. It was created in 1970 as part of the Emergency Home Finance Act passed by Congress and signed into law by then-President Richard Nixon. Like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac doesn’t lend directly to borrowers. However, it buys loans from approved lenders to enable them to provide more loans. The GSE then packages the mortgages into securities that it sells to investors.

    Fannie Mae listed its shares on the New York Stock Exchange in 1968, with Freddie Mac following suit in 1989. However, both were ultimately delisted from the NYSE and shifted to trading over the counter. The two GSEs came under federal conservatorship in 2008.

    Why Ackman thinks Trump could cause these stocks to soar more

    Between the beginning of 2020 and the end of 2023, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s stocks performed dismally, with both plunging more than 65%. However, it’s a much different story now. Over the last 12 months, Fannie Mae’s shares have jumped more than 540%. Freddie Mac stock is up even more, skyrocketing nearly 600%. Much of those gains came after the presidential election on Nov. 6, 2024.

    What was the big catalyst? Many investors think that the federal conservatorship of these two GSEs will end during a second Trump administration. Ackman is one of them.

    On Dec. 30, 2024, the billionaire hedge fund manager posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that “there is a credible path” for the federal conservatorship for both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to end within the next two years. Ackman noted, “During Trump’s first term, Secretary Mnuchin [the former Treasury secretary] took steps toward this outcome, but he ran out of time.” He expects that “Trump and his team will get the job done” in a second administration.

    Ackman laid out a scenario in his post on how Fannie Mae and Freddie Mae could come out from under federal conservatorship. He envisioned an IPO for both GSEs in 2026 at around $34 per share. That would reflect a nearly 5.5x gain for Fannie Mae and a 6x gain for Freddie Mac.

    Big deals but with a big catch

    During his real estate career, Trump was known for enjoying making major transactions. Ackman knows this, posting, “Trump likes big deals and this would be the biggest deal in history. I am confident he will get it done.”

    However, any big deals to end the federal conservatorships of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would arguably come with a big catch. The two GSEs owed $190 billion to the U.S. government at the end of 2024, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

    Ackman argued in his social media post that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac coming out from under federal conservatorship “should generate more than $300 billion of additional profits to the Federal government” in addition to removing around $8 trillion of liabilities from the U.S. government’s balance sheet.

    Quite a few details would need to be worked out for Ackman’s scenario to happen. If it does, though, these two high-flying stocks could soar much higher.

    Gov. Brian Kemp signed the homestead exemption bill last year. Now, it is up to schools and local municipalities to decide whether they want to opt in or out of the bill. The city of Pembroke and the city of Richmond Hill opted in but some residents in Bryan County fear the school district’s decision to opt out of House Bill 581 will cost them more money in the long run.

    The bill, which was passed in March 2024, states the, “Statewide exemption can be used in addition to other homestead exemptions that are not base year value exemptions. If another base year exemption exists locally, the exemption of greater benefit to the homeowner shall be provided.”

    The Bryan County School District is choosing to opt out of the new homestead exemption opportunity outlined in HB 581. According to the district’s December newsletter, here are the four reasons the district has opted out:
