Bills blockbuster trade proposal would net $94 million star edge rusher
In 2024, the Bills’ defense was atrocious on third down, allowing opponents to convert first downs on 44.54 percent of the time. Only the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers were worse in this category. In the last two postseason games against the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, the Bills defense allowed third-down conversion rates of 70 and 55.6 percent, respectively.
To say the Bills need to address this deficiency is an understatement. But how should Bills general manager Brandon Beane go about this? He can look to bolster the defensive line, which was a significant problem throughout the season. The Bills recorded just 39 sacks in 2024 and posted a sack percentage of 6.46, 20th in the league. The Bills ranked 17th in total defense, and more alarming, 24th in pass defense.
Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images There are ways that Beane can attempt to fix the Bills’ defensive line and their pass defense, but Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News, says the Bills should pursue Las Vegas Raiders edge Maxx Crosby, no matter the cost. Skurski writes, “The Bills should go all in this offseason on a trade for Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby. Yes, the cost will be steep. Here’s my response to that: So what?”
The 2024 season wasn’t Crosby’s best, recording 7.5 sacks in 12 game, but with 27 sacks over the course of the previous two seasons, Crosby has proven to be one of the premier pass rushers in the league. Oh, and he’s pretty good against the run too, producing 62 tackles for a loss over the last three seasons.
Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images The Bills aren’t in a great salary cap position, but Beane can make a handful of moves that could provide them with more cap room, including releasing Von Miller. They also have the draft capital that would allow them to swing for the fences in a trade of this magnitude.
Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images If Beane could pull off a deal like this, it could be exactly what the Bills need. During Thursday’s press conference, Beane said, “One to two plays can change the outcome of a game, which ultimately changes the outcome of the season”. Crosby is the type of player that can give your defense those one or two game-defining plays.
The Buffalo Bills are reportedly exploring a blockbuster trade proposal that could bring a $94 million star edge rusher to their roster. According to sources, the Bills are in talks with a team to acquire the talented pass rusher in exchange for a package of draft picks and players. This potential trade would be a game-changer for the Bills defense, as the addition of a premier edge rusher could elevate their pass rush to new heights. The star player in question is known for his ability to disrupt opposing quarterbacks and create havoc in the backfield.
If the trade goes through, the Bills would be adding a proven playmaker to their defense, giving them a significant boost in their quest for a Super Bowl title. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the Bills continue to pursue the star edge rusher.

Making a case for why the Bills should trade for Maxx Crosby
Brandon Beane has taken a big swing before.
Nearly three years ago, the Buffalo Bills’ general manager hid in the weeds before pouncing early in unrestricted free agency, shocking the NFL by landing edge rusher Von Miller.
The move never quite panned out, as Miller tore his ACL midway through his first season with the team.
Perhaps Beane had that in the back of his mind Thursday during his end-of-season news conference when he said, “You’re never one player away. That’s a dangerous mindset to get into.”
Maybe so. But let’s live dangerously, shall we?
Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby would be an ideal trade target for the Bills this offseason.
The Bills should go all in this offseason on a trade for Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby.
Yes, the cost will be steep.
Here’s my response to that: So what?
People are also reading…
Beane said he learned at a young age that chasing a player, or even a position, is not the right answer – even if his pursuit of Miller suggested otherwise. But in the next breath, he brought up just how close this team is.
“This team had championship ability. I do believe that,” he said. “Sometimes, you leave the season and you say, ‘Man, I don’t know if we if we gave ourselves a chance,’ but ultimately, like … it’s down to a few plays.”
If we’ve learned anything over the past five seasons, four of which ended with playoff losses to the Chiefs, it is that the Bills don’t have enough players capable of making those plays. If they did, the results would be different.
It is on Beane to go get more of those players this offseason. That’s where Crosby comes in.
Raiders owner Mark Davis has stressed that he won’t trade Crosby, but he would be wise to at least consider it. Las Vegas is in the middle of a rebuild, and years away from contention in the stacked AFC West. If Crosby’s not up for that, he could gently get his point across that a trade would be preferable.
Crosby is signed through 2026, and would have salary cap hits of $22.9 million and $19.7 million for any team trading for him. By NFL standards for an elite edge rusher, that’s a team-friendly deal. Of course, Crosby would probably want a new deal if he were to be traded, and the Bills can accommodate that.
The team will be able to free up some cap space this offseason by cutting Miller. That also opens up a spot in the defensive line rotation for Crosby to slide right into.
Crosby turns 28 shortly before the start of the 2025 season, and is coming off something of a down year by his lofty standards. He played in just 12 games because of an ankle injury in 2024, but he still finished with 7½ sacks and 17 tackles for loss. In the two years before that, he was an absolute force, with 27 sacks, an NFL-leading 45 tackles for loss and 67 quarterback hits. He is elite at rushing the passer and defending the run. He’s young enough that he should be able to overcome the ankle injury.
He is the type of game-changing talent the Bills should be searching high and low for this offseason. The No. 1 reason the Bills can’t get past the Chiefs in the playoffs is their defense. That can’t sit well with Sean McDermott – a defensive-minded head coach.
The Bills don’t love to blitz, preferring instead to rely on four-man rushes to create pressure, allowing them to cover with seven. The problem is, the four-man rush isn’t good enough as constructed, and the Bills have no reasonable path improving their four-man rush next season without making a bold move. Crosby would be that.
You want to make life easier for Greg Rousseau and Ed Oliver? You want to give them more one-on-one rush opportunities? Put Crosby on the line and let opposing offenses figure out how to block all of them.
By all accounts, Crosby would also fit perfectly in the locker room. He was a team captain for the Raiders and is one of the most respected players in the league. The Bills showed during their 2024 run that the culture matters. Yes, talent trumps all, but when there is an opportunity to add a player who would strengthen the bond inside the locker room, that’s an added bonus. Crosby certainly looks like he could do just that.
Understandably, the Raiders won’t be eager to move Crosby. Hiring the 73-year-old Pete Carroll as their new coach also isn’t a move a rebuilding team would typically make. Crosby himself has said all the right things about being excited to be a part of the Raiders’ turnaround. Again, that is what you would expect from a team captain and leader.
Still, the Bills can put together a package of draft picks to at least make Las Vegas consider it. There is no harm in picking up the phone.
Beane has an extra second-rounder acquired last year in the Stefon Diggs trade to Houston. He can start his offer with this year’s first- and second-round picks, plus a young player or two. Maybe the Raiders roll the dice on Kaiir Elam’s talent, or would be intrigued by young edge rusher Javon Solomon.
Let’s be real here: It’s not as if Beane is getting tremendous value out of the bottom of the first round. His last three top overall picks – wide receiver Keon Coleman (with the first pick of the second round last year), tight end Dalton Kincaid and Elam – were difference-makers for the wrong reasons against the Chiefs.
That’s the No. 1 reason trading picks for a proven player – in this case, Crosby – is a great idea this offseason. The last time Beane traded away his first-round pick for a player, he landed Diggs, who will go down as either the second- or third-best receiver in franchise history, depending on how you rank him with Eric Moulds behind Andre Reed.
That’s the type of impact Beane needs to find this offseason. That’s the type of impact Crosby can have on the Buffalo defense. Priority No. 1 this offseason has to be to build a defense that doesn’t crater in the biggest moments.
“One to two plays can change the outcome of a game, which ultimately changes the outcome of the season,” Beane said Thursday, speaking of the loss in the AFC championship game. “We wouldn’t be sitting here. So, it sucks. It hurts. But I’m not in the mood of thinking you have to blow it all up. I don’t think that’s rational.”
We’re in agreement there. Don’t blow it up, at all. Instead, add to what’s been built by finding the player who can make those one or two plays. Add to it by adding Maxx Crosby this offseason.
Maxx Crosby is a rising star in the NFL, and the Buffalo Bills would be wise to pursue a trade for the talented defensive end. Here are a few reasons why the Bills should make a strong case for acquiring Crosby:1. Pass Rush Ability: Crosby has proven to be a formidable pass rusher, recording 17 sacks in just two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Bills could greatly benefit from adding his pass-rushing prowess to their defense, especially as they aim to challenge top quarterbacks in the league.
2. Youth and Potential: At just 23 years old, Crosby has already shown immense potential and room for growth. His youth and athleticism make him an attractive option for the Bills, who are looking to build a strong foundation for the future.
3. Versatility: Crosby is not only effective as a pass rusher, but also as a run defender. His ability to disrupt both the pass and run game would provide valuable versatility to the Bills’ defense.
4. Team Player Mentality: Crosby is known for his strong work ethic and team-first mentality. His leadership qualities and dedication to the game would make him a valuable addition to the Bills’ locker room.
Overall, Maxx Crosby would be a valuable asset to the Buffalo Bills, bringing a combination of pass-rushing ability, youth, versatility, and a team-first mentality. The Bills should strongly consider making a case for trading for Crosby to bolster their defense and strengthen their chances of competing at a high level in the NFL.

Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey Trolls Bills with Cancun Jab After Loss to Chiefs in AFCCG | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Michael Owens/Getty Images
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey kept the receipts.
After the Buffalo Bills defeated his Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round, one of the victorious players apparently took a shot at Baltimore having nine Pro Bowlers and still falling short:
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer
One thing was clear—the @BuffaloBills felt disrespected. Right or wrong, it was a rallying cry, and Josh Allen brought up at halftime the narrative that the Bills weren’t big or strong enough.

On the way out, I heard a guy say, “Now those 9 Pro Bowlers can go to the Pro Bowl.” https://t.co/M13oe8TBS8
Well, Buffalo’s season came to an end Sunday with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Humphrey seized the opportunity to bring things full circle when he took to social media and said, “after the pro bowl maybe we can all go enjoy Cancun.”
There’s a certain level of irony with Humphrey poking fun at the Bills after their loss.
After all, it was just a handful of days ago that he took to social media and urged Buffalo to defeat the Chiefs and prevent Patrick Mahomes and Co. from making history as the first team in the NFL to win three straight Super Bowls:
Humphrey and NFL fans who are tired of the Chiefs winning now have to put their hopes on the Philadelphia Eagles.
It will be a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, which Kansas City won 38-35. However, Philadelphia didn’t have Saquon Barkley on its side for that one, which could be the difference this time around.
But defeating a Chiefs team that feels inevitable is easier said than done.
Buffalo certainly knows that considering it has lost to Mahomes’ side in four of the last five postseasons. Two of those losses came in the AFC Championship Game, with Sunday coming in particularly painful fashion since it had a fourth-quarter lead.
Humphrey knows what it’s like to lose to the Chiefs at this stage since Kansas City defeated the Ravens in last season’s AFC Championship Game.
Ultimately, there is nobody in the NFL better at sending opponents to Cancun than Mahomes.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey took a shot at the Buffalo Bills following their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.Humphrey tweeted, “Looks like Buffalo is headed to Cancun early this year,” referencing the Bills’ early exit from the playoffs. The tweet quickly went viral, with many fans and media outlets reacting to Humphrey’s jab.
While some found the tweet amusing, others criticized Humphrey for being unsportsmanlike. Regardless, the Ravens’ cornerback didn’t seem to mind the backlash, as he later tweeted, “I’m just here for the laughs.”
The Bills have yet to respond to Humphrey’s tweet, but it’s safe to say that this won’t be the last we hear of this social media feud. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills made a statement by defeating Lamar Jackson‘s Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round of the 2025 NFL playoffs. But once again, they failed to get past Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Only three points separated Allen and company from Super Bowl LIX, though some feel that the result would’ve been different had the referees granted a critical first down to the Bills early in the fourth quarter.
One of Jackson’s best teammates, for instance, went as far as suggesting that Buffalo was ‘robbed’ on that play. We’re talking about Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who shared his thoughts on social media.
“They lowkey did rob the Bills from the 4th down conversion. Josh definitely crossed the line,” Humphrey wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), in reference to a quarterback sneak by Allen that turned the ball over to the Chiefs on downs.

The call that affected Allen, Bills against the Chiefs
The play in question took place with 13:01 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bills, leading 22-21 in the game, faced a fourth-and-one situation at Kansas City’s 41-yard line. Sean McDermott decided to keep the offensive unit on the field to try and get the first down with Allen’s legs.

As the Chiefs defense stopped Allen near the line of scrimmage, the refs considered that the Bills quarterback fell short of yards. After watching a replay, even though the images still looked unclear, the NFL officiating crew stood by its original decision.
It’s safe to say it may have been a game-changing moment, as Mahomes went on to score a rushing touchdown in the following drive, putting the Chiefs in front by 29-22 after a successful two-point conversion pass.
Allen orchestrated a nine-play, 70-yard touchdown drive in the Bills’ next possession to tie the score, but Kansas City responded with the field goal that ended up making the difference at Arrowhead.
McDermott believes Allen got the first down in Kansas City
Speaking to reporters after his team’s loss, McDermott let everyone know that, even though he wasn’t sure about which angles were used in the replay, he thought that Allen got the first down.

“I thought he had it. Just short of the line was actually the first down, what it looked like to me when it was sitting next to me with the marker, just inside that white stripe was the first down and it looked like he got to it. That’s all I can say,” McDermott stated.
For many, this call will go down as a big “what if” in the Bills’ season. Either way, it would be unfair to take credit away from the Chiefs. At the end of the day, Mahomes is still unbeaten against Allen in four playoff games. And now he’s chasing a third consecutive Super Bowl win.
In a recent interview, star Baltimore Ravens teammate of Lamar Jackson, Marlon Humphrey, expressed his belief that the Buffalo Bills were “robbed” in their AFC Championship game against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Humphrey, who is known for his outspoken nature, did not hold back in his assessment of the controversial calls made during the game. Many fans and analysts have pointed to a crucial pass interference call that was not called on a crucial fourth down play late in the game as a key moment that could have changed the outcome. Humphrey echoed these sentiments, stating that he believes the Bills were unfairly disadvantaged by the officiating.
Despite the controversy surrounding the game, the Chiefs emerged victorious and advanced to the Super Bowl, where they will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bills, on the other hand, will have to regroup and look towards next season.
As the NFL offseason approaches, it will be interesting to see how the league addresses issues of officiating and fairness in games. In the meantime, fans can expect more drama and excitement as the Super Bowl approaches.

Public safety bills seek to defund new prison in Franklin County
Newly filed bills during the legislative session seek to fund public safety initiatives while defunding and reallocating revenue for a new 3,000-bed prison that is planned to be built in Franklin County. “If my bills pass, we know that the first $100 million of sales tax revenue that comes in, the state is going to be able to address this crisis,” Arkansas District 28 Sen. Bryan King said. “Then they’re not going to have the money for the mega prison, major financial disaster in Franklin County.”Senate Bill 143 would reallocate $100 million in sales tax revenues to Arkansas State Police for new crime reduction and prevention programs.According to the bill, the programs would include assisting with probation and parole services, while also allowing funds for local sheriffs to hire more deputies to focus on preventing and reducing crimes in their counties.Senate Bill 144 would allow the eight Arkansas counties, which account for approximately two-thirds of the state’s prison inmates, to partner with adjoining counties to build or expand a shared multi-county jail to house inmates who are waiting to go to prison.King told 40/29 News that his proposals would ease local jail overcrowding issues while also adequately funding public safety measures in Arkansas.”We’ve got to address the crime issue right now. There’s nothing in the governor’s proposal that’s going to do anything substantial to reduce the crime. We’ve already got a high incarceration rate,” King said. “This is just finding revenue streams that we know will pay for, and do it in a fiscally responsible way, and get immediate safety out there to our citizens.”
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. —Newly filed bills during the legislative session seek to fund public safety initiatives while defunding and reallocating revenue for a new 3,000-bed prison that is planned to be built in Franklin County.
“If my bills pass, we know that the first $100 million of sales tax revenue that comes in, the state is going to be able to address this crisis,” Arkansas District 28 Sen. Bryan King said. “Then they’re not going to have the money for the mega prison, major financial disaster in Franklin County.”
Senate Bill 143 would reallocate $100 million in sales tax revenues to Arkansas State Police for new crime reduction and prevention programs.
According to the bill, the programs would include assisting with probation and parole services, while also allowing funds for local sheriffs to hire more deputies to focus on preventing and reducing crimes in their counties.
Senate Bill 144 would allow the eight Arkansas counties, which account for approximately two-thirds of the state’s prison inmates, to partner with adjoining counties to build or expand a shared multi-county jail to house inmates who are waiting to go to prison.
King told 40/29 News that his proposals would ease local jail overcrowding issues while also adequately funding public safety measures in Arkansas.
“We’ve got to address the crime issue right now.
In a move aimed at prioritizing public safety over incarceration, a group of legislators in Franklin County have introduced a series of bills aimed at defunding the construction of a new prison in the area. The proposed facility has faced backlash from community members and advocates who argue that investing in alternatives to incarceration, such as mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and affordable housing, would better address the root causes of crime and promote long-term public safety. The bills, which are currently being considered by the state legislature, would redirect funding earmarked for the new prison towards community-based programs that aim to reduce recidivism, support reentry, and address systemic issues within the criminal justice system. Advocates for the legislation argue that the construction of a new prison would only perpetuate cycles of incarceration and harm, particularly for marginalized communities who are disproportionately impacted by the criminal justice system.
Supporters of the bills point to successful examples of states and cities that have invested in alternatives to incarceration and seen significant reductions in crime rates and recidivism. By prioritizing prevention, rehabilitation, and support services, they argue that Franklin County can create a safer and more equitable community for all residents.
As the debate over the new prison continues, community members are urged to contact their legislators and voice their support for the public safety bills that seek to defund its construction. By investing in solutions that address the root causes of crime and support individuals in need, Franklin County can move towards a more just and compassionate approach to public safety.

More than six months after CenterPoint Energy came under fire for its response to Hurricane Beryl — and its proposal to raise its rates — Houston’s main electricity company announced Wednesday that it reached a settlement that will lower customers’ bills.
Instead of the proposed rate increase that the company had requested shortly before Beryl made landfall, most CenterPoint Energy customers will have their average bill reduced by about $1 per month moving forward — pending approval from the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
Centerpoint withdrew its rate increase proposal on Aug. 1 amid the Beryl backlash.
“Following customer feedback and constructive discussions with intervening parties over the last several months, this plan keeps our customers at the forefront and supports CenterPoint’s ultimate goal of building the most resilient coastal grid in the country,” Jason Ryan, CenterPoint’s executive vice president of regulatory services and government affairs, said in a Wednesday statement.
CenterPoint faced public outrage and sharp criticism from Texas lawmakers after more than 2 million households and businesses lost power after Beryl struck the city, prompting a public apology from the company’s CEO. At least 23 people in Texas died from the storm and associated power outages. Beryl also caused about $1.2 billion to $1.3 billion in damages to CenterPoint’s electrical infrastructure.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott criticized the utility for its response to Beryl, which left hundreds of thousands of customers in Houston without power nearly a week after the hurricane struck. In July, he said the state may have to reconsider how much territory CenterPoint could serve if the company didn’t “fix its ongoing problems.” CenterPoint serves more than 2.6 million customers across the greater Houston area and coastal communities like Galveston.
In addition to calling on CenterPoint to create a detailed plan about how it would restore power, the governor also asked the PUC to investigate the utility’s response. The PUC presented their findings in a November report that said customers had trouble getting reliable information during Beryl and recommended that lawmakers pass legislation requiring utility companies to provide information about power restoration during outages.
The same investigation also recommended more than a dozen improvements to CenterPoint’s emergency plans, communications and vegetation management. The PUC announced in November that it would also hire an outside company to audit CenterPoint, with results expected in April.
In August, Attorney General Ken Paxton also opened a criminal investigation into CenterPoint to examine allegations of fraud, waste and improper use of taxpayer funds.
After Beryl hit, CenterPoint President and CEO Jason Wells vowed to improve the company’s communications and the electrical system’s resiliency. In early August, CenterPoint launched a new outage tracker. The previous tracker had been offline for several months before Beryl struck.
During its Beryl response, CenterPoint also faced criticism for not utilizing massive generators designed to help during extended power outages. The PUC had allowed CenterPoint to charge its customers to help pay for the $800 million needed to lease the generators and make a profit.
In Wednesday’s statement, CenterPoint said it “would make no revenue or profit off of the temporary emergency generator proposal,” suggesting that customers would no longer be on the hook to help pay for the generators. The change comes after lawmakers, including Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, called on the PUC to block CenterPoint from passing that cost onto its customers.
CenterPoint is also proposing moving the emergency generators to the San Antonio area for two years starting this spring to help the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which manages the state power grid, address any potential energy shortfalls this summer. The proposed change is subject to approval from ERCOT.

In a positive turn of events for CenterPoint Energy customers, the utility company has announced that they will be lowering customers’ bills following their response to Tropical Storm Beryl.CenterPoint Energy worked tirelessly to restore power to thousands of customers who were affected by the storm, and now they are passing on the savings from their efficient response to those same customers.
This news comes as a welcome relief to many who were impacted by the storm, and serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and quick, effective response in times of crisis. HOUSTON – CenterPoint Energy announced a settlement agreement with parties involved in its 2024 rate case for its Houston Electric business. This agreement, which is subject to approval by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), is expected to lead to lower electricity bills for most customers.
Key takeaways:
- Reduced Rates: The settlement is expected to decrease annual revenue for CenterPoint by approximately $50 million until the next rate case. This translates to an average monthly decrease of roughly $1 for most customers, or about 2% for residential customers using 1,000 kWh per month. Residential bills will specifically see a reduction of around $0.82 per month, while small business bills will decrease by approximately $1.28 per month.
- Focus on Customers: According to CenterPoint, the agreement prioritizes customer needs while acknowledging the company’s investments in grid improvements.
- Grid Investments Highlighted: The company emphasized its investments in the Greater Houston area’s electric grid since the last rate case in 2019, totaling roughly $8 billion. These investments include new transmission and distribution lines, substations, and smart grid technologies aimed at enhancing reliability and resilience.
- ERCOT Proposal: Separately, CenterPoint proposed sending emergency generation units to the San Antonio area to address a projected energy shortfall in Central Texas. This initiative, if approved by ERCOT, could further reduce customer bills in the Greater Houston area.
Timeline:
Rate cases for Houston Electric typically occur every four years and involve PUCT review and approval of electricity rates. CenterPoint initially requested a rate increase in 2024, but later withdrew the request to focus on its Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative following Hurricane Beryl. Negotiations with intervening parties resulted in the current settlement agreement.

CenterPoint Energy, a leading energy provider in the Midwest, has reached a settlement agreement in its 2024 rate case that will result in reduced customer bills. The agreement, which was approved by the state’s regulatory commission, includes a decrease in base rates for residential and commercial customers. This news comes as a relief to many customers who have been facing high energy bills in recent years. The reduction in rates will help alleviate some of the financial burden on households and businesses, especially as they continue to recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic.
CenterPoint Energy has been working closely with stakeholders to find a fair and reasonable solution that benefits both customers and the company. The settlement agreement reflects a balanced approach that ensures reliable and affordable energy services for all customers.
Overall, this is a positive development for CenterPoint Energy and its customers. The company remains committed to providing excellent service while also being mindful of the financial challenges facing many households and businesses. This settlement agreement is a step in the right direction towards a more sustainable and affordable energy future for all.

Rate cases happen every four years. This allows regulators to evaluate utility pricing.
HOUSTON — CenterPoint Energy has reached a settlement in its 2024 rate case that will lead to lower electric bills for Houston-area customers.
Pending approval by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), the agreement will reduce CenterPoint’s revenue by about $50 million annually through 2029, lowering monthly residential bills by approximately $1, or 2% for customers using 1,000 kWh per month.
Small businesses will see a reduction of about $1.28 per month.
Rate cases happen every four years. This allows regulators to evaluate utility pricing.
In a news release, Jason Ryan, CenterPoint’s Executive VP of Regulatory Services and Government Affairs, emphasized the company’s commitment to affordability and reliability.
“Our settle agreement with these parties would reduce the amount of revenue that CenterPoint receives, and customer bills would decrease, while also addressing the significant investments we have made to strengthen our system for the benefit of our customers,” Ryan said. “Following customer feedback and constructive discussions with intervening parties over the last several months, this plan keeps our customers at the forefront and supports CenterPoint’s ultimate goal of building the most resilient coastal grid in the country.”
In August 2024, CenterPoint temporarily withdrew from its rate case following Hurricane Beryl to focus on the company’s “Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative.”
CenterPoint said its 2024 rate case is intended to support capital investments the company has made to expand and improve the Greater Houston area’s electric system.
Since 2019, CenterPoint said it has invested approximately $8 billion in the grid, including:
- Installing 2,200 miles of new distribution lines and over 100 miles of new transmission lines.
- Building six new distribution substations and two new transmission substations.
- Elevating 11 substations to prevent flood damage.
- Deploying 437 Intelligent Grid Switching Devices, reducing outages by over 80 million minutes in 2023.
These investments complement the company’s ongoing resiliency initiatives to improve grid performance and emergency response capabilities.
Along with the settlement, CenterPoint proposed relocating 15 emergency power generation units to San Antonio for two years to support the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) during a projected energy shortfall in the summer of 2025.
The company will not profit from this initiative, and Houston-area customers will not be charged for related costs during this period. CenterPoint said this proposal, if approved, would ultimately contribute to lower electric bills across the Greater Houston area.
CenterPoint Energy recently settled a rate case with the Texas Public Utility Commission, resulting in a lower energy bill for Houston-area customers. This settlement will bring relief to residents who have been struggling with high energy costs. Thanks to this agreement, CenterPoint customers can expect to see a decrease in their energy bills in the coming months. The company has committed to passing along the savings from the settlement to its customers, providing much-needed financial relief during these challenging times.
This news is a welcome development for Houston-area residents who have been feeling the strain of high energy costs. With this settlement, CenterPoint customers can look forward to more affordable energy bills and greater peace of mind.
Overall, this settlement is a positive outcome for Houston-area customers and a step in the right direction towards more affordable energy prices. It’s a win for consumers and a testament to the power of advocacy and collaboration in the energy industry.

“The whole first half is long drives against K.C., and then in the final 10 minutes, Kansas City gets the stops,” a coach from a rival team told Mike Sando of The Athletic. “It is classic with Chris Jones, too. He is a modern-day Randy Moss. He’ll play when he wants to play, and when he wants to play, look out.”
The Bills’ offense was able to put together several impressive drives to open the game, taking a 22-21 lead with just under three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Jones didn’t register a sack against the Bills, but he still recorded a tackle and two quarterback hits.
When the 30-year-old is healthy and engaged, it isn’t an exaggeration to call him one of the NFL’s top defensive players. He’s earned Pro Bowl nods six consecutive seasons and received AP All-Pro First Team honors for the third straight year in 2024.
While Jones’ five regular-season sacks were his lowest amount since the 2016 season, his ability to consistently dominate at the line of scrimmage has been crucial for a Chiefs squad that owned the NFL’s fourth-best scoring defense and No. 8 run defense during the regular season.

KANSAS CITY, MO – JANUARY 26: The Kansas City Chiefs defense holds Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh … [+]
While leading 22-21 against the Kansas City Chiefs during the fourth quarter of the 2025 AFC Championship Game, the Buffalo Bills leaned on quarterback Josh Allen to make a drive extending play.
The down and distance was fourth and one, slightly past the midfield line. Allen seemed to have quarterback powered his way to a first down despite a convoy of Chiefs defenders pushing him sideways.
Instead, on-field referees ruled Allen short and upheld their call after a tense booth review. Kansas City would score on the next possession to go ahead 29-22 and Buffalo would never come closer than a 29-all tie before losing 32-29.
The ruling killed an important drive that seemed destined to have Buffalo in prime position for an eight-point lead against the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. Thus, the controversial call was met with resistance from a CBS rules insider Gene Steratore and Bills head coach Sean McDermott.
Steratore felt Allen had crossed the ball past the line to gain by “a third of the football’’. Unfortunately for the refs and many tv viewers, there wasn’t definitive evidence that the ball cleared the first down mark through the swarm of offensive and defensive players.
McDermott was pretty adamant on what he thought the ruling was.
“I thought he had it,” McDermott said. “Just short of the line was actually the first down, what it looked like to me when it was sitting next to me with the marker. Just inside that white stripe was the first down. And it looked like he got to it. That’s all I can say.”
The play wasn’t the reason Buffalo eventually fell to Kansas City, but it was the last drive where they played with a lead. Now, the team will look to pick up the pieces yet again after posting their fourth consecutive postseason loss to Kansas City during the Allen/McDermott era.
Recently, CBS Rules Insider and Buffalo Bills head coach have spoken out about the controversial fourth down spot that occurred during a recent game.During the game, the Bills were faced with a crucial fourth down situation near the goal line. The officials ruled that the ball was short of the first down marker, resulting in a turnover on downs for the Bills. However, upon further review, CBS Rules Insider and other analysts have pointed out that the spot of the ball may have been incorrect and that the Bills should have been awarded a first down.
Buffalo Bills head coach has also weighed in on the controversy, expressing his frustration with the call and the impact it had on the outcome of the game. He has called for more transparency and accountability from the officials when it comes to crucial game-changing decisions.
The debate over the fourth down spot has sparked a larger conversation about the role of technology and instant replay in officiating in the NFL. Many are calling for more consistent and accurate calls to be made in order to ensure fair play and protect the integrity of the game.
As the discussion continues, it is clear that the issue of officiating and game-changing calls will remain a hot topic in the world of football. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
