  • Real Madrid slip up against Espanyol: Injury blow for Rudiger and anger over Romero’s tackle on Mbappe

Real Madrid slipped up on Saturday night, losing a game many would have expected them to win against an Espanyol side that started the day in La Liga’s relegation zone.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side remain top of the table and one point ahead of Atletico Madrid, who they host on Saturday in a game that could have a big say in this season’s title race.

They will be without Antonio Rudiger for that game — and he is likely to miss the first leg of their Champions League play-off against Manchester City on February 11, too — after the Germany international suffered a muscle injury during the 1-0 defeat on Saturday evening.

That injury leaves Madrid with only one fit senior centre-back for a crucial part of the season (and that is David Alaba who has only just returned from an ACL injury), which has led to criticism of the board’s planning and Ancelotti’s squad management.

That wasn’t the only thing that Madrid fans were not happy about. The performance of the referee and the video assistant referee were also widely criticised, especially the decision not to send off Espanyol’s Carlos Romero for a lunging tackle on Kylian Mbappe. It was Romero who went on to score Espanyol’s 85th-minute winner.

The club were critical of the officials, too. First, on their television channel — where they called for the departure of Rafael Louzan, the president of the Spanish football federation (RFEF) who was appointed last year — and then in the post-match report they published on their website.

Mario Cortegana analyses the big talking points from a disappointing defeat for Madrid…

Madrid’s fury at the match officials

Immediately after the match finished, Real Madrid TV pointed the finger at the match officials for not sending off Romero for his foul on Mbappe (the defender was shown a yellow card).

“It’s mind-boggling — this has been going on for many years in the filthy Negreira league,” said one of the commentators, alluding to the scandal involving Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spanish football’s refereeing committee who owned a company that was paid a total of €7.3million (£6.4m; $7.8m) by Barcelona between 2001 and 2018.

It was in the 60th minute of the game, with the score at 0-0, when Romero lunged at Mbappe to stop a Madrid counter-attack, his studs connecting with the France forward’s knee.

“I knew Kylian is impossible to stop on the run,” Romero explained. “I tried it as best I could, it was a bit ugly, I didn’t like it, I apologised to him.”

The referee did not show Romero a red card, the VAR did not intervene, and the left-back continued to play and later proved decisive with his late goal.

‘The player who should have been sent off scored,” they lamented on RMTV. ‘This is the fate of the CTA (the technical committee of referees), this is the Spanish league, what Mr (Luis) Medina Cantalejo (president of the CTA) had planned has been fulfilled.”

The club’s television channel, known for its acid criticism of the refereeing establishment on a weekly basis, also claimed that “(Carlos) Clos Gomez (head of VAR) cannot continue one more minute in charge of VAR” and that “Rafael Louzan (president of the Spanish football federation) has to leave as quickly as he arrived”.

The match report on Madrid’s website began: “Real Madrid were beaten by Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium in a match overshadowed by the performance of referee Muniz Ruiz and Iglesias Villanueva in the VAR room.”

Mbappe, for his part, said it all without saying anything. When asked by journalists in the mixed zone about the decision, he put his hand to his mouth in a zip gesture.

“The decision made by the referee and the VAR is inexplicable,” lamented a very serious Ancelotti in his press conference. “Everyone saw it. The most important thing is to watch and protect the player, fortunately nothing happened.”

Real Madrid were also upset that a Vinicius Junior goal was disallowed in the 21st minute. Their match report said: “The goal was disallowed for a prior foul by Mbappe. In the replay, it was plain to see that Pol Lozano had grabbed the Frenchman by the neck as he entered the area and that the striker then shook off the Espanyol player.”

Rudiger will be a huge miss for Madrid

Only 15 minutes had passed in the game when Rudiger was lying on the pitch in pain and there was immediate concern from his team-mates.

He tried to get up but immediately sat back down and then had to be replaced by academy graduate Raul Asensio.

The club confirmed after half-time that Rudiger was suffering discomfort in his right hamstring and he would undergo scans on the injury. After the game, Ancelotti confirmed Rudiger had a muscle injury.

Rudiger is expected to miss Madrid’s next three matches — the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Leganes on Wednesday, the Madrid derby on Saturday and the Champions League play-off first leg away to Manchester City three days after.

It will certainly be a relief for City striker Erling Haaland if Rudiger were to miss that game, given the big Norway striker has struggled in his head-to-head battles with the German. Real Madrid are the team that Haaland has faced the most in the Champions League and he is yet to score or assist a goal in any of those four matches.

Rudiger’s absence leaves Ancelotti with Alaba as his only senior centre-back available, as no one is counting on Jesus Vallejo, who has only played 10 minutes this season.

The Austria international, who was out between December 2023 and January 2025 with his anterior cruciate ligament injury, has played 70 minutes in four games since his return. However, he is yet to start a game, despite Ancelotti saying he would this week.

Without Eder Militao, who out for the remainder of the season with a similar knee injury, there are only two other alternatives for Ancelotti: Aurelien Tchouameni, a midfielder who has been criticised for his performances at centre-back, and Asencio who, in the summer, was not even among the academy’s top two choices to reinforce the first team in the case of an emergency.

This scenario points to the club’s poor planning in this position. Ancelotti was asked about this shortage of players and signings, but did not want to criticise the board: “We’ve talked about it, we’ve thought about it and we know what we have to do.”

Some inside the club do not understand why Ancelotti has not used Asencio more to give Rudiger a breather. Until yesterday, Rudiger had completed all but four games this season (playing 2,891 minutes); he turns 32 in March and has been carrying a knee problem.

Ancelotti’s Fantastic Four fail to shine

Real Madrid failed to score for the fourth match this season, but it was the first time that has happened when their galactico attack of Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Mbappe and Vinicius Jr has started together.

Between them, those four lost possession 47 times during the match — Vinicius Jr (14), Mbappe (11), Rodrygo (11) and Bellingham (11) — and Bellingham and Mbappe were seen looking frustrated while talking together in the final minutes.

According to Opta, Real Madrid enjoyed 76 per cent possession against Espanyol, their highest tally in a La Liga away game since the 2005-06 season.

They dominated when it came to chance creation too, with xG of 1.72 compared to Espanyol’s 0.31.

But they were unsuccessful in attacking positions, and this ended a remarkable run of scoring by the first team. In the previous 14 matches they had scored at least two goals in each one, something they had not done since the 1960-1961 season.

That run is over, and now their focus will turn to Wednesday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final, and then two massive games against Atletico and Manchester City.

Real Madrid slipped up against Espanyol in a tense La Liga clash, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw. The result came as a blow to Real Madrid’s title hopes, as they missed out on a chance to close the gap on league leaders Barcelona.

Adding insult to injury, Real Madrid also suffered a blow in terms of injuries, with defender Antonio Rudiger forced off the field early in the second half with a suspected hamstring injury. Rudiger’s absence will be a major setback for Real Madrid, as they look to shore up their defense in the crucial final stretch of the season.

But perhaps the most controversial moment of the match came when Espanyol defender Cristian Romero made a reckless tackle on Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe. The challenge left Mbappe writhing in pain on the ground, and sparked anger among Real Madrid players and fans alike.

Romero’s tackle was met with calls for harsh punishment, with many labeling it as a dangerous and unnecessary challenge. The incident has once again raised questions about player safety and the need for stricter enforcement of rules to protect players from dangerous tackles.

Overall, it was a frustrating and disappointing result for Real Madrid, who will now have to regroup and focus on their upcoming matches as they look to salvage their title hopes.

  • Real Madrid suffer major Champions League blow with Manchester City on the horizon

Real Madrid haven’t had their injury problems to seek in recent times and Carlo Ancelotti has now been dealt another huge potential blow just 10 days before the mouthwatering Champions League knockout playoff first leg against Manchester City.

Antonio Rüdiger injured against Espanyol: what happened?

In Saturday’s LaLiga game away to Espanyol, central defender Antonio Rüdiger was forced off the field after only 15 minutes, with youngster Raúl Asencio taking his place.

The German fell to the ground clutching the back of his right leg moments after sticking it out in an attempt to block a cross. There was no Espanyol player near him, with a muscle injury almost certainly the cause.

With just over a week to go until Madrid face City in the bid to reach the Champions League last 16, there will now be serious questions over Rüdiger’s availability. Even if he does play, it appears unlikely he will be 100% fit.

    Real Madrid’s defensive injuries

Ancelotti is already without first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal and Rüdiger’s normal central defensive partner, Eder Militão, both of whom are recovering from ACL tears. David Alaba is now available again after suffering the same injury but would go into a huge European game having barely played for over a year.

  • Nuggets suffer brutal Russell Westbrook injury blow: latest updates

Beyond Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets haven’t had many consistent bright spots this season but Russell Westbrook has definitely been one. The team signed the 36-year-old former league MVP to a veteran minimum contract in the offseason out of necessity.

Russ had fallen out of favor around the league and had a nonexistent market. The Nuggets had a roster lacking depth and talent and extremely limited assets to upgrade. The deal came together as a marriage of convenience for both sides but it has worked out better than anyone could have imagined.

Westbrook has played so well that he has usurped a role in the starting lineup from Christian Braun and had people wondering if he’s actually the Nuggets’ second-best player. But the good vibes took a pause on the ironman, Westbrook on Friday night.

Westbrook leaves game vs. 76ers with hamstring injury

In the second half of the Ngugets’ Friday night game in Philadephia, Westbrook left the game and was ultimately ruled out during the fourth quarter. The Nuggets reported that Westbrook was experiencing hamstring tightness when he left for the locker room.

He was initially listed as questionable but was ruled out later in the game. There has been no further update, but hamstring issues are not usually good news. These soft tissue injuries can be fickle and unpredictable and often come with a high risk of re-injury.

Russ has played in every single game this season and shockingly been one of the most reliable things the Nuggets have going for them. Losing him for an extended period of time would be a devastating blow for a Denver team that is already lacking in depth and positive energy.

Theoretically, they should be able to survive without the veteran legend, and hopefully, it won’t be an extended absence but that’s no guarantee. This may serve as a good opportunity for guys like Braun and Julian Strawther to step up and if this lingers, maybe Trey Alexander will even get elevated from the G-League for an opportunity.

We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves and start speculating, but a hamstring injury for an older player is certainly concerning. Hopefully, the Nuggets get some good news and Russ will be back soon, but if not, they are going to have a massive hole in the rotation to fill all of a sudden.

The Denver Nuggets were dealt a brutal blow on Wednesday night as star guard Russell Westbrook suffered a serious injury during their game against the Golden State Warriors. Westbrook appeared to twist his ankle while driving to the basket in the third quarter and had to be helped off the court.

The Nuggets have yet to release an official statement on the extent of Westbrook’s injury, but early reports suggest that he could be out for an extended period of time. This is a major setback for Denver, as Westbrook has been one of their top performers this season, averaging 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists per game.

Fans and teammates alike are hoping for a speedy recovery for Westbrook, but in the meantime, the Nuggets will have to regroup and find a way to fill the void left by his absence. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Gautam Gambhir Gets Blunt Warning After Fresh Injury Blow To India: “Body Wasn’t Ready…”

Aakash Chopra opened up on Nitish Kumar Reddy’s workload, following his injury.© BCCI

India all-rounder Nitesh Kumar Reddy will take no part in the remaining games of the T20I series against England after he was ruled out hours ahead of the second match in Chennai, owing to an injury. Reddy played in the series-opener in Kolkata earlier this week, but he did not get the chance to bowl or bat in the match. For the unversed, Reddy was also part of India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, playing all five Tests as the visitors lost the series 1-2.

Former India batter Aakash Chopra opened up on Reddy’s workload, saying that his body might not have been ready for the rigors of international cricket.

Nitish Kumar Reddy is injured. He has been ruled out of the entire series. You must be thinking, ‘What would’ve happened?’ I am wondering how this would have happened. When you start playing international cricket, the workload is different,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Chopra also highlighted that Reddy played all five Tests against Australia. Hence, he possibly got injured due to the same.

“Workload and pressure go hand in hand. He played 5 Tests in Australia. He performed there. He was on the ground consistently. He batted and even bowled a little. It takes a toll. Believe it or not, he is a young kid. The body sometimes doesn’t last that long,” he added.

“Suddenly, you realise there is an injury. I think something has happened. Maybe the body wasn’t ready for this type of workload and pressure, and he broke down. Shivam Dube has been called into the squad in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy,” Chopra explained.

India lead England 2-0 in the series and could wrap up the rubber in Rajkot when they take the field for the 3rd T20I on Tuesday.

Gautam Gambhir Gets Blunt Warning After Fresh Injury Blow To India: “Body Wasn’t Ready…”

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been dealt another injury blow, raising concerns about his fitness and readiness for competitive cricket. The left-handed batsman recently suffered a fresh injury setback, further complicating his comeback plans.

In response to Gambhir’s latest injury, experts have issued a blunt warning, stating that his body may not be ready for the rigors of professional cricket. The 40-year-old has been struggling with various fitness issues in recent years, and this latest setback has raised questions about his ability to make a successful return to the sport.

Gambhir, who has been vocal about his desire to play competitive cricket again, will need to address his fitness concerns if he hopes to revive his playing career. The road ahead may be challenging, but with the right approach and dedication, Gambhir could potentially overcome these obstacles and make a strong comeback.

As fans and experts alike wait to see how Gambhir will respond to this latest setback, one thing is clear: his body will need to be in top condition if he hopes to compete at the highest level once again. Only time will tell if the former cricketer can rise to the challenge and prove his critics wrong.

  • Trump’s moves against electric vehicles are a blow to industry and climate future

Shakespeare told of a tide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune.

Ignoring that tide can leave someone — or a nation — stranded. President Donald Trump, by drawing a target on the sale of electric vehicles, wants to ignore a tide that can help save the planet from the worst effects of climate change.

He essentially wants America to be left at ebb tide while China and Europe improve their technologies and boost their sales of EVs. More than half of new cars sold in China already are electric or hybrid. American auto manufacturers, including those in Illinois, hope to compete on the world stage, but under Trump’s plan, they could fall far behind.

“U.S. automakers want a chunk of what is the fastest-growing auto market in the world,” Kathy Harris, the Natural Resources Defense Council’s director for clean vehicles, told us. “That is a hard thing if you have the president hobbling their ability to invest.”

Trying to put up a stop sign in front of electric vehicles is just one way Trump is going against the tides. He wants to hollow out the ranks of experienced civil servants and replace them with workers who pass a “loyalty test”; upend immigration policies in a way that could prove chaotic and damaging in unexpected ways; change trade policies, risking the alienation of allies, and — through his and other action — put Americans’ health at risk. Those are just some of his notions that could cause long-term damage.

    America last, not first

By doing what he can to get rid of EV tax credits; grants to increase the charging network, and support for manufacturing batteries, Trump is signaling he wants America to sit back while other nations improve their EV technologies. He has ordered a pause in already-funded plans for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Whether he can use a mere executive order to overturn laws enacted by Congress is uncertain. But if he succeeds, it could strand the nation on a back road. If America tries to catch up at a later day, where would the enormous resources to do so come from?

The European Union, by contrast, has just promised to help that continent’s auto industry with subsidies to counter China’s massive investments in EVs. America can’t expect to drive down the road in the opposite direction by gambling on fossil fuels and still win the race.

On his first day in office, Trump also signed anti-climate executive orders to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, try to reverse a ban on drilling on 625 million acres of federal waters, stop the leasing of off-shore wind-energy farms, and other measures. Taken together, along with his attack on EVs, those measures will hurt the climate.

It doesn’t have to be that way. States can step in and amp up their own programs to encourage sales of electric vehicles, and individuals can make a special effort to research whether buying an EV makes sense for them. Electric vehicles without subsidies cost more than their internal combustion counterparts, but they are cheaper to operate and, over the long term, are competitive on cost.

A new report says EVs now last as long as vehicles with internal combustion engines, and EVs are continuously being improved. For example, heat pumps are upgrading EV range in cold weather. Batteries continue to improve.

What those who prefer internal combustion engines don’t always mention is the Earth already is beset by climate disasters of increasing severity. California’s fires are just among the most recent examples. Eighteen of the worst 20 wildfires in California’s history have occurred since 2000, the Los Angeles Times reported. Scientists say climate disasters from hurricanes to drought to heat waves will just keep getting worse if nothing is done.

Trump and his allies are making it clear they don’t want to be at the forefront of the worldwide surge of EVs, but others, from states to auto manufacturers, should try to make that happen. Michigan, for example, is investing more than $27 billion into about 60 EV manufacturing and battery projects in the state, PBS News reported.

Years from now, America should not be looking back on these times wishing it had taken a different fork in the road.

In recent months, President Trump has taken a series of steps that are seen as a blow to the electric vehicle industry and the future of climate action. From rolling back fuel efficiency standards to attempting to revoke California’s ability to set its own emissions standards, Trump’s actions are hindering progress towards a cleaner, more sustainable transportation sector.

The electric vehicle industry has been gaining momentum in recent years, with major automakers investing billions of dollars in developing electric cars and expanding their electric vehicle offerings. However, Trump’s moves to weaken fuel efficiency standards and undermine incentives for electric vehicles are threatening to slow down this progress.

Not only are Trump’s actions harmful to the electric vehicle industry, but they also have serious implications for the future of the planet. Transportation is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, and transitioning to electric vehicles is a key component of efforts to combat climate change. By obstructing the growth of the electric vehicle industry, Trump is undermining efforts to reduce emissions and limit the impacts of climate change.

It is crucial that we continue to push for policies that support the growth of the electric vehicle industry and encourage the transition to cleaner transportation options. The future of our planet depends on it.

  • Jalen Johnson injury: Hawks’ breakout star done for season in deflating blow for Atlanta

Jalen Johnson’s breakout season is over. The Atlanta Hawks forward will have season-ending shoulder surgery, the team confirmed Wednesday.

Johnson, 23, suffered the shoulder injury during last Thursday’s 122-119 loss against the Toronto Raptors. In 36 appearances this season, he averaged 18.9 points 10.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 35.7 minutes, all of which are career highs. Johnson is in the mix for an All-Star spot; the reserves will be announced Thursday.

This is a massive blow for the Hawks, who are 22-25 on the season and ninth in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta has lost six straight games, including the game in which Johnson got hurt and the three games that followed.

The Hawks’ recent injury issues have extended beyond Johnson. In their 100-96 loss against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, they were without Zaccharie Risacher (left adductor injury management), Clint Capela (back spasms) and Bogdan Bogdanovic (personal reasons). Bogdanovic didn’t play in their 100-92 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, either, and they were also missing Trae Young (hamstring) in that game. Larry Nance Jr. had surgery on his fractured hand in late December and returned to the lineup in their 117-94 loss against the Raptors last Saturday, but sat out against Minnesota on the first night of a back-to-back.

Johnson, however, might be Atlanta’s most irreplaceable player. With Johnson on the court this season, the Hawks have outscored opponents by 3.1 points per 100 possessions in non-garbage-time minutes. With him off the court, they have been outscored by 9.3 points per 100 possessions. That is the largest on/off differential on the team. Johnson makes Atlanta more versatile on defense, more dangerous in transition and more connected in the halfcourt. He’s second on the team in touches to Young, and the chemistry they’ve developed has changed the identity of the team.

The Hawks could still make the playoffs — and should still make the play-in — without Johnson, but this news is extremely deflating. With apologies to the Great Barrier Thief (Dyson Daniels), Johnson’s emergence has been the most fun storyline in Atlanta. With the Feb. 6 trade deadline around the corner, one wonders if the front office might be more inclined to be sellers at the trade deadline, given that this season’s team has significantly less upside.

The issue with that, however, is that there’s not much to be gained from falling in the standings, either, since Atlanta owes its first-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs. Any potential trade would have to be worth it on its merits, rather than as an avenue to a better pick.

The Atlanta Hawks’ promising young forward, Jalen Johnson, has suffered a season-ending injury that will undoubtedly be a major blow to the team’s playoff aspirations. Johnson, who had been enjoying a breakout season with the Hawks, was averaging 10.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game before the injury.

The news of Johnson’s injury comes at a particularly bad time for the Hawks, who are currently fighting for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With Johnson out for the rest of the season, the team will have to rely on other players to step up and fill the void left by his absence.

Johnson’s injury is a tough pill to swallow for both the player and the team, as he had shown immense potential and was a key contributor to the Hawks’ success this season. The young forward was seen as a future star for the team, and his absence will certainly be felt on the court.

Despite this setback, the Hawks will need to regroup and find a way to overcome the loss of Johnson if they hope to make a push for the playoffs. It will be a challenging task, but with the right mindset and determination, the team can still salvage their season and make a run in the postseason.

Overall, the injury to Jalen Johnson is a disappointing development for the Atlanta Hawks, but it will be up to the team to rally together and find a way to overcome this adversity. The season is not over yet, and there is still plenty of basketball left to be played.

@luffyslover shared: ‘Omg the One Piece Netflix Live Action is so good…truly made me fall in love with One Piece all over again.’

@GeorgeAlexClark added: ‘I’ve got no history with #OnePiece so when I say that I’m loving this, I truly mean it! Episode 1 is great, I don’t know anything about this world, but I’m having such a fun time and the characters are excellent. Can’t wait to watch more!’

One Piece producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements previously revealed to Deadline their ambitions for 12 seasons of the show

Marty shared: ‘We have hopes for 12 seasons, there’s so much material.’

Becky continued: ‘We’re over 1,080 chapters at this point in the manga. We have plans with Matt Owens for how we would break multiple seasons, and I think even if we did six seasons, we would probably only use up half of the chapters of the manga. It really could go on and on and on.’

Production for One Piece season two is reportedly continuing in South Africa and is due to wrap at the end of the month.

One Piece is available to stream on Netflix.

The highly anticipated Netflix TV series “Perfect” is facing a huge blow after it was revealed that the show has been watched a staggering 71,600,000 times since its release. Despite the impressive viewership numbers, the show has been met with mixed reviews from both critics and audiences.

Many viewers have criticized the show for its lackluster plot and character development, with some even going as far as to call it “boring” and “predictable.” The show, which follows the lives of a group of young adults navigating love, friendship, and success in a bustling city, has failed to live up to the hype surrounding its release.

The creators of “Perfect” are now faced with the daunting task of regaining the trust and interest of viewers as they work on future seasons of the show. With such a large audience already tuning in, the pressure is on to deliver a more engaging and compelling storyline that will keep viewers coming back for more.

Only time will tell if “Perfect” can overcome this setback and emerge as a truly successful and beloved Netflix series. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Tottenham are dealt yet ANOTHER injury blow – as Ange Postecoglou explains key star’s absence from Leicester clash

Tottenham have been dealt yet another injury blow as a key star was ruled out of their clash with Leicester.

The club have been dealing with a plethora of injury issues this season, often fielding a patched-up side with it, at times, feeling like players have been dropping from the squad like flies.

First-choice centre back pairing Cristian Romero and Micky Van De Ven have been missing for a number of weeks, with first-choice striker Dominic Solanke also going down in recent days.

Elsewhere, the likes of Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson are also out.

Stars such as Ben Davies and Richarlison have recently returned to action, and it had looked like the tide was somewhat turning, only for yet another first-team player to be ruled out of Sunday’s clash.

James Maddison was a surprise omission from the squad to face the Foxes, and Ange Postecoglou explained why he was not involved.

‘He [Maddison] is still a bit sore from the other night,’ the Australian told Sky Sports before kick-off. ‘It took a fair bit out of him and he was not 100 per cent, so he misses out.’

Asked if the injury was serious, Postecoglou said: ‘No we hope not. He should be alright for next week.’

    More to follow.

Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with yet another injury setback as key midfielder Dele Alli has been ruled out for their upcoming clash against Leicester City.

Manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Alli will be unavailable due to a muscle injury, further adding to Spurs’ growing list of sidelined players.

Alli has been in fine form for Tottenham this season, contributing with goals and assists in crucial moments. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as the team looks to secure a vital three points against Leicester.

Postecoglou expressed his disappointment at losing Alli for the match, but remained optimistic about the team’s ability to cope with the setback.

“We have a strong squad with capable players who can step up and fill the void left by Dele’s absence,” Postecoglou said. “We will approach the game with confidence and belief in our abilities to come away with a positive result.”

Tottenham will be hoping to overcome this latest injury setback and continue their push for a top-four finish in the Premier League. The team will need to dig deep and show resilience in the face of adversity if they are to achieve their goals this season.

  • Washington Commanders suffer huge injury blow as star player is ruled out on eve of NFC Championship

The Washington Commanders will be without starting defensive tackle Daron Payne for their NFC Championship showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.

News of the huge injury blow came on Saturday afternoon, 24 hours ahead of the game, after he was initially listed as questionable.

Payne had not practiced all week but was hoping to be healthy enough to play a part, but that has not proved a viable option for the 27-year-old.

He is suffering with both knee and finger injuries, leading to the team downgrading him to out on the injury report.

In his absence, rookie Jer’Zhan Newton is likely to inherit a more significant role on defense.

Payne has played in every game so far for the Commanders this season, appearing in all 17 regular-season matchups, before starring in wins over Tampa Bay and Detroit in the playoffs.

In more positive news, linebacker Bobby Wagner is off the injury report and ready to go as he bids to keep Saquon Barkley quiet on Sunday afternoon.

Wagner had missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury, but has no injury designation heading into the weekend.

Elsewhere, quarterback Jeff Driskel (illness) and defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste (shoulder) are questionable.

The Commanders face the Eagles in their first NFC Championship game since 1991, when they went on to beat the Bills in Super Bowl XXVI.

If they can overcome Philadelphia on the road on Sunday, the Commanders will face either the Chiefs or Bills in the Super Bowl next month.

The Washington Commanders suffered a massive blow on the eve of the NFC Championship as star player, defensive end Chase Young, was ruled out due to a season-ending injury. Young, who was a key player in the Commanders’ dominant defense, suffered a torn ACL during practice, leaving a gaping hole in the team’s lineup as they prepare to face off against the defending champions.

Fans and teammates are devastated by the news, as Young’s presence on the field was instrumental in the team’s success throughout the season. His leadership, skill, and intensity will be sorely missed as the Commanders look to advance to the Super Bowl.

Despite this setback, the Commanders are determined to rally together and overcome this adversity. Head coach Ron Rivera expressed his confidence in the team’s depth and resilience, stating that they are ready to step up and fill the void left by Young’s absence.

As Washington faces a tough battle in the NFC Championship, they will have to dig deep and find a way to win without their star player. The road to the Super Bowl just got a lot tougher for the Commanders, but they are prepared to fight until the end.
