Both Wyoming basketball teams will face tough challenges today. The Cowgirls will be home this afternoon against Boise State, while the men’s team will play at San Diego State.
Heading into today’s game, the Cowgirls are tied for third place in the Mountain West with a 6-3 mark (12-9 overall), just one game ahead of the Broncos (5-4, 15-7). UNLV leads the women’s standings (8-1, 16-5). UW enters the game having won two of their last three games, while Boise State has won three of their last four. Both team’s only recent losses were to Colorado State.
Today’s game will be broadcast on WyoRadio’s 1360 KRKK and 1360KRKK.com beginning at 1:30, with the game starting at 2 p.m.
The Wyoming men (4-6 in the MW and 11-10 overall) are looking to build momentum off their dramatic 83-72 overtime win over Fresno State last Tuesday in Laramie. In that contest, Cowboy guard Obi Agbim hit a three-point shot as time expired in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Perennial conference power San Diego State (7-3, 14-5) has won its last three games, two of which came on the road.
The game can be heard on WyoRadio’s 99.7 JACK-FM and 99KSIT.com beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the tipoff at 6 p.m.
The Cowgirls are set to host Boise State, while the Cowboy heads to San Diego State in exciting upcoming matchups for the Wyoming basketball teams. Don’t miss out on the action as both teams look to secure important victories on the road to success! #GoWyo
Nevada’s season is slipping away after an NCAA Tournament appearance last season, and it may not get any easier on the road against Boise State.
The Broncos are a considerable home favorite against the Wolf Pack on Wednesday night in hopes of snapping a two game skid on the road, but will play back at home where the team has only lost one game this season.
Can Boise State reaffirm its standing in the Mountain West against a sliding team?
Nick Davidson: The junior big man continues to be the hub of the Nevada offense, operating at a career high usage rate while also being a monster around the rim at 6’10”. Many defenders in the Mountain West can’t keep up with Davidson, he has been living at the free throw line this season while also impeding plenty of opposing ball handlers from going to the rim.
Boise State
Tyson Degenhart: The Broncos win continues to come on strong, fresh off 27 points against Colorado State in which Boise State nearly rallied from down double digits on the road to win. Degenhart is playing at an incredibly high level in Mountain West play, shooting 40% from beyond the arc after he shot 17% from the floor in non-conference play.
Boise State is owed quite a bit of shooting regression from the opposition, and Nevada isn’t equipped to continue to give the team fits.
The Broncos are a sturdy defense, but are allowing opponents to shoot 42% from beyond the arc in league play. Nevada has been struggling to shoot from the perimeter in league play, way down from its top 30 percent in the country at 32% in league play. However, the team is far more interested in attacking the mid-range and the rim, ranking ninth in 3-point rate.
With both teams willing to play in the half court, each team is outside the top 300 in adjusted tempo, per KenPom, I envision the game is filled with contested jump shots.
Boise State has struggled to shoot from the perimeter all season — 242nd in the nation — but the compact Nevada defense forces teams to shoot 45% of its shots from beyond the arc, good for 329th in the country.
These two teams are built to play in a limited possession matchup where each defense has the edge.
I’ll side with the under.
PICK: UNDER 136.5

In a highly anticipated matchup, the Nevada Wolf Pack will take on the Boise State Broncos on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Both teams come into this game with impressive records and will be looking to secure a crucial win in conference play. Here is a prediction, odds, and key players to watch for this exciting showdown.
Prediction:
This game is shaping up to be a close battle between two talented teams. Nevada has been playing well as of late, with a strong offense led by Jalen Harris, who is averaging over 19 points per game. Boise State, on the other hand, has been solid on both ends of the court, with Derrick Alston Jr. leading the way with nearly 19 points per game.
In a tight contest, I predict that Nevada will come out on top in a close game. Their offensive firepower and ability to score in bunches will give them the edge in this matchup.
Odds:
According to the latest odds, Nevada is favored to win this game by a slim margin. The spread is currently set at -3 in favor of the Wolf Pack. The over/under for total points scored is set at 146.5.
Key Players:
– Jalen Harris (Nevada): The senior guard has been a scoring machine for Nevada this season, averaging over 19 points per game. His ability to create his own shot and score from anywhere on the court will be crucial for the Wolf Pack in this game.
– Derrick Alston Jr. (Boise State): The junior guard has been a standout player for the Broncos this season, averaging nearly 19 points per game. His scoring ability and leadership on the court will be instrumental in helping Boise State secure a win.
Overall, this game is sure to be an exciting matchup between two talented teams. Be sure to tune in on Wednesday, Jan. 29 to see who comes out on top in this showdown between Nevada and Boise State.

After a tough loss on the road their last time out, Boise State looks much better today on their home court. They have jumped out to a quick 28-24 lead against Nevada.
Boise State came into the match with some extra motivation after the defeat they were dealt the last time these two teams faced off. We’ll see if they’re able to flip the script or if it’ll just be more of the same.
Nevada and Boise State are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. Both will face off in a Mountain West battle at 10:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday at ExtraMile Arena. Coming off a loss in a game the Wolf Pack were expected to win, they now face the more daunting task of proving themselves against unfavorable odds.
Nevada is headed into this one after the oddsmakers set last week’s over/under low at 130, but even that wound up being too high. Things couldn’t have gone much worse for them as they lost 69-50 to San Diego State on Saturday. The contest marked the Wolf Pack’s lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Kobe Sanders, who had 12 points in addition to eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in offensive rebounds (three).
Boise State has been a dominant force so far, but they’re in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost 75-72 to Colo. State on a last-minute jump shot From Jalen Lake. The close matchup was extra heartbreaking for the Broncos, who almost overcame a 17 point deficit.
Boise State’s loss shouldn’t obscure the performances of Alvaro Cardenas, who went 7 for 13 en route to 18 points plus seven assists and five rebounds, and Tyson Degenhart, who went 10 for 17 en route to 27 points plus five rebounds. Cardenas’ performance made up for a slower game against New Mexico two weeks ago. Javan Buchanan was another key player, earning 11 points plus two blocks.
Boise State struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only five offensive rebounds. That’s the fewest offensive rebounds they’ve posted since back in December of 2023.
Nevada’s defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Boise State, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
Wednesday’s match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Nevada has been crazy accurate this season, having made 47.6% of their field goals per game. However, it’s not like Boise State struggles in that department as they’ve made 47.9% of their field goals this season. Given these competing strengths, it’ll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Not only did Nevada and Boise State lose their last games, but neither team managed to cover the spread. Looking forward, Boise State is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by eight points. This contest might not be the best time to bet Nevada against the spread since they’ve let bettors down the last five times they’ve played.
Odds
Boise State is a big 8-point favorite against Nevada, according to the latest college basketball odds.
The line has drifted a bit towards the Broncos, as the game opened with the Broncos as a 6.5-point favorite.
Boise State and Nevada both have 5 wins in their last 10 games.

“I’m honored to present the award to Ashton Jeanty,” Earl Campbell said. “All of these players had incredible seasons. They all deserved their place as a finalist. We were glad to celebrate all of them tonight and award Ashton as the winner.”
The other finalists for the award featured four quarterbacks in Bryson Daily (Army), Kevin Jennings (SMU), Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) and Cam Ward (Miami). For more information on the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, click here.

We’ve got another exciting Mountain West matchup on schedule as the Boise State Broncos and the New Mexico Lobos are set to tip at 11:00 p.m. ET on Friday at The Pit. The Broncos are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 78.7 points per game this season.
Boise State took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 96-55 victory over Wyoming. The Broncos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 22 points or more this season.
Alvaro Cardenas was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 14 points in addition to eight assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Andrew Meadow, who went 5 for 7 en route to 18 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, New Mexico’s good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost 71-70 to San Jose State on a last-minute jump shot From Latrell Davis. The Lobos were up 22-9 in the first but couldn’t hold on to the lead.
Despite the loss, New Mexico had strong showings from Nelly Junior Joseph, who went 7 for 10 en route to 20 points plus six rebounds, and Donovan Dent, who posted 17 points along with five assists. Junior Joseph’s performance made up for a slower matchup against San Diego State on Saturday.
Boise State is on a roll lately: they’ve won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for New Mexico, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Boise State hasn’t had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 78.7 points per game. However, it’s not like New Mexico struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 83.2. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Boise State is hoping to beat the odds on Friday, as the experts think they’re headed for a loss. They might be worth a quick bet since they’ve covered the spread the last three times they’ve played.
Odds
New Mexico is a 3.5-point favorite against Boise State, according to the latest college basketball odds.
The oddsmakers were right in line with the betting community on this one, as the game opened as a 3.5-point spread, and stayed right there.
Boise State has won 7 out of their last 10 games against New Mexico.

My Boise State vs New Mexico College Basketball Betting Preview
On Tuesday, Boise drilled Wyoming, while New Mexico lost outright to San Jose State, which snapped the Lobos’ 6-0 start in Mountain West play.
Thus, books are shading this line toward the Lobos, making them 3.5-point favorites when I would make the number closer to one.
The Broncos’ game plan is always the same: They play almost exclusively through the paint in posting and rolling actions, with Tyson Degenhart dropping over 18 points per game.
Boise is shooting over 60% from 2-point range in conference play while leading all Mountain West teams in offensive rebounding rate (36%, per KenPom).
It could be challenging for Boise to establish its offense here, as the Lobos are an elite post-up (.74 PPP allowed, 87th percentile, per Synergy) and rolling (.88 PPP allowed, 80th percentile, per Synergy) defense.
Nelly Junior Joseph is still an elite defensive anchor, and the Lobos have plenty of size on the front line when you throw in Mustapha Amzil, Filip Borovicanin and Atiki Ally Atiki.
Overall, the Lobos lead the Mountain West in 2-point shooting allowed (43%, per KenPom) and rank second in defensive rebounding rate (67%, per KenPom). Boise State will try to live at the rim, but New Mexico likely denies that.
New Mexico is also a rim-reliant squad, pressuring the rim in transition and leaning on its front-line size in post-up sets.
The Broncos are an elite transition-denial, rim-denial and post-denial defense, and I suspect Degenhart, O’Mar Stanley and Dylan Anderson will be able to hang down low.
However, I don’t trust Boise’s guards and wings to stay in front of Donovan Dent off the dribble. Dent is among the nation’s best ball-screen maestros in the way he can weave to the basket, and the Broncos are a below-average ball-screen and dribble defense (.79 PPP allowed, 39th percentile, per Synergy).
Ultimately, I believe Dent will be the difference-maker, as Boise doesn’t have the same level of guard creation, preferring to play bully ball against an elite interior defense.
That, plus the situational spot, leads me to believe the Lobos get the job done at The Pit.
But I can’t lay over a possession, given where I project the spread.
If I had to bet on this game, I’d likely take New Mexico at the cheapest moneyline price. Boise State ranks 356th nationally in Haslametrics Away-From-Home metric, so it’s hard to see the Broncos overcoming the fired-up Lobos and picking up a massive road win.

Boise State vs New Mexico Odds, Picks and Predictions
The Boise State Broncos are set to take on the New Mexico Lobos in a Mountain West Conference showdown. Both teams are coming off of losses and will be looking to bounce back with a win.
The odds for this game have Boise State as heavy favorites, with a spread of -14.5 points. The over/under for the game is set at 57.5 points.
When it comes to picks and predictions, Boise State seems to have the edge in this matchup. Their high-powered offense, led by quarterback Hank Bachmeier, should be able to put up points against a struggling New Mexico defense. The Lobos have had trouble stopping the run, which could spell trouble against Boise State’s strong rushing attack.
On the other side of the ball, New Mexico will need to find a way to move the ball against a tough Boise State defense. Quarterback Isaiah Chavez will need to have a big game if the Lobos want to have a chance at pulling off the upset.
In the end, I predict that Boise State will come out on top in this game, covering the spread and hitting the over. Look for the Broncos to establish their dominance early and control the game from start to finish.
GLENDALE, Ariz. – The No. 6 seed Penn State Football team (13-2, 8-1) earned the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl win by taking down No. 3 seed Boise State (12-2, 7-0) Tuesday night at State Farm Stadium in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal by a final score of 31-14. Penn State advances to the College Football Playoff Semifinal game in the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
A record-setting offensive day coupled with four takeaways on defense and stellar special teams play propelled the Nittany Lions to the semifinal round of the College Football Playoff. The Nittany Lions earned a 13-win season for the first time in program history with their 31-14 defeat of the third-seeded Broncos on New Year’s Eve.
The running back duo of Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton combined for 221 yards on the ground to lead the Nittany Lion offense. Allen tallied 134 yards on 17 carries while Singleton collected 87 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, on 12 totes. Both backs crossed the 1,000 rushing-yard plateau in their respective seasons Tuesday against the Broncos, becoming the first teammates in school history to each eclipse the 1,000-yard mark in the same season.
Tight end Tyler Warren posted six catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns in a historic outing. His third-quarter touchdown reception was his 98th catch of the season which broke the Penn State single-season reception record held by Allen Robinson (97; 2013). Warren, who won Offensive Player of the Game for his performance, was quarterback Drew Allar’s favorite target in a game in which he completed 13 of 25 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Omari Evans hauled in Allar’s other touchdown pass as one of his two catches on the night, a 38-yard touchdown strike in the first quarter.
Penn State’s defense recorded four takeaways against Boise State, including three fourth-quarter interceptions. Zakee Wheatley, Zion Tracy, and Tyrece Mills each came away with picks, turning away Bronco scoring opportunities with splash plays. Wheatley was named Defensive Player of the Game for his efforts. Additionally, Kobe King forced a fumble by Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty early in the first half, stifling yet another scoring opportunity for Boise State.
King and teammate Jaylen Reed led the defense with eight tackles apiece while Tony Rojas posted seven. Penn State collected nine tackles for loss, including sacks by Reed, Amin Vanover, and Dani Dennis-Sutton.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn State won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Boise State missed a 45-yard field goal on its first offensive possession, giving the Nittany Lion offense the ball at its own 28-yard line.
A nine-play, 72-yard scoring drive capped off by an 11-yard toe-tap touchdown from Allar to Warren put Penn State up 7-0 in the early going. 42 rushing yards from Allen on the drive helped push the Nittany Lion offense inside the red zone where Warren hauled in his 18th career receiving score.
Two tackles for loss by Dennis-Sutton, including a sack, forced a Boise State three-and-out and Penn State took over on its own 44-yard line after a punt. Allar connected on his second passing touchdown of the day, this time on a 38-yard dime to Evans. The Nittany Lions went 56 yards on four plays to extend a 14-0 lead over the Broncos at the 3:35 mark of the opening quarter.
Penn State recovered an Ashton Jeanty fumble on Boise State’s next drive and took over at its own 49-yard line. The Nittany Lions turned the ball over shortly after and the Broncos’ offense took the field at their own 35-yard line.
Boise State scored its first touchdown on an eight-yard run in the second quarter. The Broncos went 52 yards in eight plays for the score, cutting the Penn State lead to 14-7 with 8:41 on the clock in the second quarter.
The Nittany Lions tacked on a field goal as time expired in the first half to go up 17-7 entering the midway break. The 40-yard field goal by Ryan Barker gave the Nittany Lions a two-score lead heading into halftime.
A 53-yard touchdown pass by the Broncos was the first scoring play of the second half. Boise State traveled 83 yards on five plays to make the score 17-14 Penn State just over three minutes into the second half.
Warren’s second receiving touchdown of the game put Penn State up 24-14 with 7:22 on the clock in the third quarter. The 13-yard reception gave him 98 catches on the season, the Penn State single-season receptions record.
A pick by Wheatley stifled the Broncos’ ensuing drive, Penn State’s second takeaway of the day. Penn State’s defense then stopped Boise State short once again, forcing a field goal attempt that was missed by the Bronco kicker, his second missed field goal of the day. Penn State held a 24-14 lead through the 9:20 mark of the fourth quarter.
Penn State took the momentum and capitalized, scoring their fourth touchdown of the night on a 58-yard run by Singleton to go up 31-14 with less than five minutes to play.
Interceptions by Tracy and Mills on what ended up being the Broncos’ final two drives of the game sealed the 31-14 Fiesta Bowl victory for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State Football Punches Ticket to College Football Playoff Semifinal with Fiesta Bowl Win
In a thrilling showdown between the No. 6 seed Penn State Nittany Lions and the No. 3 seed Boise State Broncos, it was Penn State who emerged victorious with a commanding 31-14 win in the Fiesta Bowl.
The Nittany Lions came out strong from the start, with their defense stifling Boise State’s high-powered offense and their offense clicking on all cylinders. Quarterback Sean Clifford led the way for Penn State, throwing for 250 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Noah Cain added 120 rushing yards and a touchdown of his own.
On the defensive side of the ball, Penn State was relentless, forcing three turnovers and holding Boise State to just 14 points, well below their season average. The Nittany Lions’ defense also came up with several key stops in the red zone, preventing the Broncos from mounting any serious comeback.
With this impressive win, Penn State now advances to the College Football Playoff semifinal, where they will face off against the No. 2 seed in a highly anticipated matchup. The Nittany Lions have proven that they belong among the nation’s elite teams, and they will be looking to continue their strong play and make a run at the national championship.
Congratulations to Penn State on their Fiesta Bowl victory and best of luck in the College Football Playoff semifinal! Let’s go Nittany Lions! #WeArePennState #CFBPlayoffBound
Penn State is a win away from the national title game.
The No. 6 Nittany Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead and held on for a 31-14 win over No. 3 Boise State. Penn State dominated Boise State in the first quarter, but a fumble on a bad handoff gave Boise State life and the Nittany Lions had a hard time shaking the Broncos the rest of the way.
Heck, you can even make an argument that Boise State lost opportunities to win the game more than Penn State put the Broncos away for much of the second half. Boise State appeared to cut the Penn State lead to three in the third quarter on a TD pass, but the play was called back for a hands to the face penalty. In the fourth quarter, Boise State had the chance to cut the lead to seven with less than 10 minutes to go, but the normally reliable Jonah Dalmas missed his second field goal of the game.
Penn State only made their fans breathe easy when Nick Singleton broke a 58-yard TD run with 4:54 to go. Singleton’s TD pushed the lead to three scores and extinguished any hope of a Boise State comeback.
The Nittany Lions advance to play the winner of Notre Dame-Georgia in the CFP semifinals.
Interception Penn State!
The Broncos were facing a fourth-and-long deep in their own territory and Maddux Madsen tried to force the ball into a tight spot and it was picked off by PSU’s Zion Tracy.
That’s the ballgame folks.
Touchdown Penn State!
Well so much for that. Nicholas Singleton just broke through the line for a 58-yard rushing touchdown that’ll serve as a dagger in this game.
PSU 31, BSU 14
PSU draining clock
The Nittany Lions are milking the clock now with a two-possession lead.
We’re inside the 5-minute mark now.
Boise State misses another FG
The Broncos couldn’t do much with it once they got inside the red zone and settled for another field goal attempt by Jonah Dalmas, who missed this one from 38 yards.
What a brutal mistake in a tight game.
BSU nearing red zone
The Broncos are closing in on the red zone as the game inches toward the 10-minute mark.
Jeanty breaks off 26-yard run
The Broncos were facing a third-and-21 deep in their own territory and Ashton Jeanty came through with a 26-yard run to keep the drive alive.
PSU punts it back
The Nittany Lions opted for a play-action pass on third-and-1 and the pass fell incomplete. The Broncos will have the ball back with just over 13 minutes left in the game.
Interception Penn State!
BSU QB Maddux Madsen didn’t see Zakee Wheatley playing centerfield and the safety comes down with the interception for the Nits as the fourth quarter gets underway.
End of 3Q: PSU 24, BSU 14
The Broncos had a touchdown called back moments ago and the third quarter will end with BSU on the edge of field goal range.
BSU on the march
The Broncos are now over midfield as time ticks away in the third quarter. Ashton Jeanty has still been kept under wraps by PSU’s defense, but QB Maddux Madsen is making the necessary throws to move the sticks.
Tyler Warren is simply unstoppable
Penn State’s offense has been at its best throwing to Warren or simply running the football. Boise State has gotten some good pressure against Drew Allar when bringing extra defenders, but Penn State is mauling Boise up front when its moving linemen down the field. The Broncos are not out of this game, but they are going to need to stop the run …. and also Warren.
Touchdown Penn State!
It’s Tyler Warren AGAIN! Drew Allar seemed to just throw it up in the end zone and the big-bodied tight end comes down with it for the score. What a clutch throw and grab by the duo on third-and-long.
PSU 24, BSU 14
Drew Allar scrambles for key first down
The Nittany Lions were facing a third-and-14 when Allar scrambled out of the pocket and found space enough to run for a first down. Clutch run by the QB.
PSU is inside the red zone now.
PSU on the march
The Nittany Lions are past midfield already after a 23-yard run by Kaytron Allen on third-and-short.
TOUCHDOWN BOISE STATE!
The Broncos are alive! Penn State just seemed to lose Matt Lauter in coverage and the tight end breaks away for a 53-yard catch-and-run touchdown.
Game on in Tempe!
PSU 17, BSU 14
Penn State punts it
The Broncos will have the ball after a quick three-and-out by PSU to come out of the break.
We are back for the second half of the Fiesta Bowl.
Penn State will have the ball at its own 25-yard line.
Halftime: PSU 17, BSU 7
The Nittany Lions will go into halftime with a 10-point lead after Ryan Barker hit a 40-yard field goal to end the second quarter.
PSU will get the ball first when we come back from the break.
A 10-point deficit at halftime is pretty dang good for Boise State after the way this game started. Though the Broncos can feel like they’ve wasted plenty of opportunities to tie the game — and Penn State can feel like it should have put this one away.
In a thrilling Fiesta Bowl matchup, Penn State came out on top with a decisive victory over Boise State. The Nittany Lions took care of business on both sides of the ball, showcasing their talent and determination to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
The final score of the game was Penn State 35, Boise State 17. The Nittany Lions’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with quarterback Sean Clifford leading the way with three touchdown passes. The defense also played a key role in the victory, forcing turnovers and shutting down Boise State’s potent offense.
With this impressive win, Penn State has punched their ticket to the CFP semifinals where they will face off against a tough opponent. Fans are buzzing with excitement as they anticipate what lies ahead for their beloved team. Drew Allar threw three touchdown passes and No. 5 Penn State bottled up Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty for a 31-14 win over No. 8 Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday night, earning a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
The Nittany Lions (13-2, CFP No. 6 seed) opened their first CFP berth with a blowout win over SMUand appeared headed toward the latest lopsided victory in the new 12-team format by jumping out to a 14-0 lead against Boise State.
But the Broncos (12-2, CFP No. 3 seed) have relished the role of underdog, going back to when their brand went national in the electrifying 2007 Fiesta Bowl.

Penn State tripped up Boise State’s latest comeback bid.
Allar threw his second touchdown pass to John Mackey Award winner Tyler Warren, and Nick Singleton burst up the middle for a 58-yard TD run, sending the Nittany Lions to the Jan. 9 Orange Bowl against No. 2 Georgia or No. 3 Notre Dame.
Penn State did it by controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball most of the night and shutting down Jeanty’s running lanes. The AP first-team All-America selection finished with a season-low 104 yards on 30 carries, leaving him 27 short of Barry Sanders’ single-season NCAA record.
Allar had been criticized all season, called dull and a game manager. He was sharp early, finding Warren in the back of the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown, then Omari Evans in stride for a 38-yard score.
The Broncos pushed back by getting pressure on Allar and seemed to turn the momentum when they stripped Penn State’s quarterback two plays after Jeanty lost his third fumble of the season.
Boise State then turned to Tyler Crowe, not Jeanty, and the fullback took several Nittany Lions with him for an 8-yard touchdown that cut Penn State’s lead in half. The comeback seemed to still be in reach with Lauter’s TD, but the Broncos fell apart after that.
Maddux Madsen threw three interceptions and Jonah Dalmas missed his second field goal, leaving the Broncos short of the CFP semifinals.
