Arkansas guard Boogie Fland will miss rest of season with hand injury
Boogie Fland was committed to Kentucky and was slated to be the program’s starting point guard and potential leading scorer in 2024-25. The true freshman guard is set to be John Calipari‘s next first-round pick. The New York City native quickly flipped to Arkansas when Calipari bolted for Fayetteville.
But Fland’s season is over before February. Jon Rothstein reported on Tuesday night that the star guard will miss the rest of the year with a hand injury.
Boogie Fland is averaging 15.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in 34.1 minutes per game on .391/.365/.839 shooting splits. Fland has been an inefficient high volume shooter for the Hogs, but the team has needed that shot volume to score. The Hogs currently rank No. 91 nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency. Playing without him will be difficult.
Arkansas (11-7, 0-5) will play their first game without Boogie Fland in the lineup on Wednesday when the Razorbacks host Georgia (14-4, 2-3) at Bud Walton Arena. The injury news likely means that DJ Wagner will spend a lot of time at point guard and Florida Atlantic transfer Johnell Davis should receive a much higher usage rate after playing off-ball for most of the season.
The season is not going well for John Calipari at Arkansas and the hits keep coming. The Hall of Fame head coach will make his return trip to Rupp Arena a week from Saturday.

Arkansas guard Boogie Fland will miss the rest of the season due to a hand injury. This news comes as a blow to the Razorbacks, as Fland has been a key player for the team this season.Fland, a junior from Little Rock, has been averaging 12 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds per game this season. His absence will certainly be felt on the court, as he has been a reliable scorer and playmaker for Arkansas.
Head coach Eric Musselman expressed his disappointment in the news, stating, “Boogie has been a valuable contributor to our team this season and his presence will be missed. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back on the court next season.”
The Razorbacks will need to rely on other players to step up in Fland’s absence as they continue their season. Fans are hopeful that Fland will make a full recovery and be back in action for the team next year.

Arkansas star Boogie Fland out for season with thumb injury as rough year continues for John Calipari
Arkansas star freshman Boogie Fland, a projected top-10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has no timetable for a return to action after undergoing surgery to repair an injury to his Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) on his right thumb, the school announced on Wednesday.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported on Tuesday that Fland would miss the remainder remainder of the 2024-25 season due to the hand injury. Fland has been dealing with the injury since the Razorbacks’ matchup against Florida on Jan. 11.
“Boogie’s hand, he fell in the game at our place against Florida,” Razorbacks coach John Calipari told reporters on Saturday. “Billy (Richmond) jumped on him, so his hand is pretty bad. Don’t know what we’ll do going forward, but we’ve got to make sure that we get that thing right.”
Fland entered the week ranked second on his team in points (15.1) behind Adou Thiero and first in assists (5.7). Fland scored four points and dished out six assists in Arkansas’ 83-65 loss to Missouri on Saturday, which dropped the Razorbacks to 0-5 in SEC play in Calipari’s first season as coach. Fland is the No. 9 ranked player in the CBS Sports NBA Draft Prospect Rankings.
The former Kentucky signee followed Calipari from Lexington to Arkansas alongside fellow freshmen Karter Knox and Richmond. Fland ranked as the No. 22 recruit in the 2024 recruiting cycle by 247Sports and was the program’s second-highest ranked signee of the modern era behind Nick Smith, the No. 1 recruit in 2022.
What does this mean for Arkansas?
Year 1 of the Calipari era hasn’t gone according to plan following his highly publicized exit from Kentucky. At 0-5, Arkansas and South Carolina are the only SEC teams without a win in conference play heading into the fourth week of the new year and three of Arkansas’ five losses have been by double-digits. Arkansas opened conference play with a 76-52 loss to Tennessee on the road and has sustained losses to Ole Miss, Florida, LSU and Missouri since.
Fland’s injury is a big deal because the Razorbacks are losing a proven scorer and also the player that’s been facilitating the offense. Former FAU star Johnell Davis, the No. 1 ranked player in the transfer portal by CBS Sports, has struggled in a more limited role under Calipari. Davis is averaging 8.3 points and 1.4 assists in just over 28 minutes per game after averaging a career-high 18.2 points last season.

Arkansas wasn’t included in CBS Sports’ latest Bracketology projections by Jerry Palm. Arkansas is 1-7 in Quad 1 games, with the lone victory coming on a neutral court against Michigan last month. The Razorbacks have the advantage of potentially adding to their résumé because of the difficult remaining schedule that includes matchups on the road against Kentucky, Alabama, Texas A&M and Texas.
Wins without Fland, arguably their most impactful player, will be hard to come by moving forward unless someone like Davis takes a huge jump down the stretch.
The University of Arkansas basketball team suffered a major blow today as star player Boogie Fland will miss the remainder of the season due to a thumb injury. This news comes as a devastating blow to the team and head coach John Calipari, who has already faced a tough season filled with injuries and setbacks.Fland, a key player for the Razorbacks, was averaging 15 points and 7 rebounds per game before his injury. His absence will undoubtedly be felt on the court as the team looks to navigate through the rest of the season without one of their top performers.
For Coach Calipari, this news adds to what has already been a challenging year. The team has faced numerous injuries and struggles on the court, making it difficult to find consistency and success in their games.
Despite this setback, the Razorbacks will look to rally together and finish the season strong in Fland’s absence. The team will need to come together and step up in order to overcome this latest obstacle and push forward towards their goals.
Our thoughts are with Boogie Fland as he begins his recovery process, and we wish him a speedy and full recovery. In the meantime, the Razorbacks will need to dig deep and find a way to persevere in the face of adversity.

Boogie Fland injury update: John Calipari says hand is ‘pretty bad’
Arkansas head coach John Calipari updated the injury status of his star freshman point guard, Boogie Fland, after the Razorbacks’ loss to Missouri on the road Saturday.
Fland, who has been dealing with a hand injury since the Jan. 11 matchup against Florida, finished the game with four points while shooting 2 of 13 from the floor.
“Boogie’s hand, you know, he fell in the game at our place against Florida,” Calipari said after the game. “Billy (Richmond) jumped on him, so his hand is pretty bad. Don’t know what we’ll do going forward. But, we got to make sure we get that thing right.”
Fland finished the Florida game with 15 points and came out the next game on the road vs. LSU and scored a game-high 19 points. The four-point finish vs. Mizzou was just the third time during Fland’s true freshman season for the Razorbacks that he scored anything less than 10 points, and first time in SEC play.
Still, Fland has averaged 35 minutes per game for Arkansas since his injury and hasn’t missed any time on the court. If Fland has to take some time off to heal, Calipari is confident his squad can hold strong without their freshman point guard.
“We’ve got nine guys and if Boogie is out for a while we may have eight guys,” Calipari continued. “Well, guess what those eight guys got to do? Play well. All of them. You can’t have four of the eight and get it done and that means again, mindsets.”
If Fland missed time due to recovery, Arkansas will likely turn to DJ Wagner and Johnell Davis to be the team’s spark in the backcourt. Adou Thiero continues his breakout junior season and is averaging a team-high 16.4 points per game.
Looking ahead in the Razorbacks’ schedule, they’re set to host No. 23 Georgia on Wednesday night inside Bud Walton Arena. Still searching for their first SEC win of the season, the Razorbacks have lost five-straight games after starting the season 11-2.
There’s more than enough time for Arkansas to turn its season around. However, the Hogs will need to do so in short order and meeting a ranked Georgia team with the benefit of playing on their home floor is a perfect place to start.
Tip-off between the Razorbacks and Bulldogs is set for Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET live on the SEC Network.
Kentucky Wildcats guard Boogie Fland suffered a hand injury during a recent game, and head coach John Calipari provided an update on his condition. In a press conference, Calipari stated that Fland’s hand injury is “pretty bad” and that he will likely be out for an extended period of time. The talented guard has been a key player for the Wildcats this season, averaging double-digit points and providing solid defense on the court.
Fland’s absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team, but Calipari expressed confidence in the rest of the players stepping up in his absence. The coach also emphasized the importance of Fland taking the time to properly heal and recover from his injury before returning to the court.
Wildcats fans will be eagerly awaiting further updates on Fland’s condition and hoping for a speedy recovery for the star guard. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Latest injury update on Arkansas guard Boogie Fland
The Arkansas Razorbacks (11-7, 0-5 SEC) are back home in Bud Walton Arena on Wednesday and still searching for that first SEC victory when they face the Georgia Bulldogs (14-4, 2-3 SEC). If the Razorbacks are going pick up a win, they’ll have to do it without star freshman guard Boogie Fland, who’s listed as out on the first availability report on Tuesday night.
Following Arkansas’ loss to Missouri on Saturday, head coach John Calipari revealed Fland was battling a hand injury he suffered during the loss to Florida a week prior. The freshman had his right hand tapped up and was seen playing through obvious pain at certain points of Arkansas’ 83-65 loss. In the postgame press conference, Calipari didn’t seem confident they’d have the guard in the immediate future.
“Boogie’s hand, he fell in the game at our place against Florida … His hand is pretty bad,” Calipari said after the game. “Don’t know what we’ll do going forward, but we’ve got to make sure that we get that thing right.”
On his radio show Monday night, Calipari mentioned Fland was “doubtful at best” for Wednesday night’s game. That sentiment was echoed by assistant coach Chin Coleman on Tuesday afternoon during his media availability session. Without Fland, Coleman revealed the Hogs would use a guard committee to replace the lost production before he singled out guards DJ Wagner, Johnell Davis and Billy Richmond as players who would have to step up.
“Obviously, it’s natural for DJ to move into that role,” Coleman said. “He’s done it his whole life. He’s done it in his career. So it’s an easy fix for him just moving to that role. But committee wise, Johnell will have to take some of that responsibility, and Billy Richmond, who has played that position some in high school. It’s different obviously on this level. But he has played the position so we’re going to ask for him to take some of that.”
The Razorbacks will be the first unranked SEC team Georgia has faced all season. The Bulldogs enter Fayetteville on the heels of a close, 70-68 loss to No. 1 Auburn this past Saturday. Tip-off from Bud Walton Arena is set for 8 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday night, and SEC Network will have television coverage of the game.
This year for all SEC football, basketball and baseball games, the conference requires teams to release player availability reports prior to league games. The initial report for men’s basketball is due at 7 p.m. (CST) the night before every conference game, and each player will be listed as Available, Probable, Questionable, Doubtful or Out. The Game Day Update is due two hours before tip-off and each player will be listed as Available, Game Time Decision or Out.
