  • Strasbourg retain interest in Porto’s Gonçalo Borges

Gonçalo Borges (23) had looked set to join RC Strasbourg Alsace during the summer window, however, he opted to remain with his formative club, Porto. Determined to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Portuguese side, he has nonetheless struggled for game time this season, making just one start in the league and just one start in the UEFA Europa League. He does, however, have two goals and one assist for the club this season.

However, according to a report from Foot MercatoStrasbourg have retained the interest that they held in the summer and a move this month cannot be ruled out. For now, however, no offer has been made for Borges, whose contract with Porto runs until the summer of 2027.

RCSA are looking to strengthen their options on the wing after Dilane Bakwa suffered an injury that is expected to rule him out for several weeks.

Strasbourg have not given up on their pursuit of Porto’s talented midfielder Gonçalo Borges. Despite facing stiff competition from other clubs, the French side remains keen on securing the services of the 22-year-old Portuguese star.

Borges has been on Strasbourg’s radar for some time now, with the club’s scouts impressed by his combination of technical ability, vision, and work rate. His performances for Porto’s youth teams have caught the eye of several European clubs, but Strasbourg are determined to win the race for his signature.

The Ligue 1 side is prepared to make a substantial offer for Borges, showing their commitment to bringing him to the Stade de la Meinau. The player himself is said to be open to the idea of a move to France, seeing it as a chance to further his development and make a name for himself on the continental stage.

With negotiations ongoing between the two clubs, it remains to be seen whether Strasbourg will be successful in their pursuit of Borges. However, one thing is certain – the interest in the young midfielder is very much alive, and fans of the club will be eagerly awaiting any updates on the potential transfer.

  • Strasbourg in advanced talks for FC Porto winger Gonçalo Borges

Strasbourg in advanced talks for FC Porto winger Gonçalo Borges

According to a report from L’Équipe, Racing Club de Strasbourg are in advanced discussions to sign FC Porto winger Gonçalo Borges (23). Talks are currently over a potential €6m move for Borges, who is currently under contract until 2027 with the Dragões.

After being close to signing for Les Alsatiens last summer, the 23-year-old decided to stay at the Portuguese club and has since played in 23 matches (albeit from a bench spot), scoring two goals and recording three assists. Strasbourg initiated talks to sign the player again six days ago, as they look to strengthen their wing options after Dilane Bakwa suffered an injury which is expected to rule him out for several weeks.

The original agreement reached with Porto in the summer would have seen the winger move to the Alsace region for a fee valued around €8m. He enjoyed solid game time under Sergio Conceicao last season , playing in 28 games across all competitions and registering three assists.

Recent reports have surfaced suggesting that French club Strasbourg are in advanced talks to sign FC Porto winger Gonçalo Borges. The 21-year-old Portuguese talent has been attracting interest from several clubs across Europe, but it seems like Strasbourg are leading the race for his signature.

Borges, who is known for his pace, dribbling skills, and versatility on the wing, has impressed scouts with his performances for Porto’s youth teams and could be ready to make the step up to senior football. The move to Strasbourg could provide him with the opportunity to continue his development and showcase his talent in one of Europe’s top leagues.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it will be interesting to see how this potential transfer unfolds in the coming days. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Australian Open Day 6 Predictions Including Alcaraz vs Borges

Australian Open actions continues on Day 6 with the beginning of the third round. Eight men’s singles matches are on the docket, including No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz squaring off against the in-form Nuno Borges. Our other prediction article features Novak Djokovic vs Tomas Machac. Predicting this set of matches are Damian Kust, Ateet Shrivastava and Liam McBride. Who do you think will advance?

Australian Open Day 6 Men’s Predictions

Tommy Paul vs Roberto Carballes Baena

    Damian
Paul’s shoulder problem from the opening round wasn’t visible as he easily outlasted Nishikori. This is still a really nice draw for him and while Carballes Baena can play some very solid tennis on hard courts, the American is definitely a class ahead. He won’t beat anyone significant at this event, but he will go exactly as deep as he’s expected.
    Prediction: Paul in 4

    Ateet
Not many people would have expected to see Roberto Carballes Baena in the third round of his less preferred Slam but he has done an amazing job of playing consistent and aggressive tennis. However, Tommy Paul would be a significant step up for him and I can’t see him upsetting the American player.
    Prediction: Paul in 4

    Liam
Tommy Paul was on the cusp of an early exit, but he showed terrific character to knock out crowd favourite Christopher O’Connell. In a battle of two era’s, he was comfortably better than Kei Nishikori. Carballes Baena also saw off an Aussie, beating James Duckworth in straight sets. Yet, Paul’s athleticism will prove too much, as will his ability to move around the Spaniard. A first straight-sets win of the Slam is on the way.
    Prediction: Paul in 3

    Jiri Lehecka vs Benjamin Bonzi

    Damian
Lehecka has been enjoying a very comfortable draw so far and while he didn’t necessarily need it with how strong he tends to be in Australia, it might help him conserve energy for the likely fourth-round clash with Australia. It’s been the same story with Bonzi the last three weeks – he’s winning against the players he should beat, but loses to the first top-quality opponent. History should repeat itself here.
    Prediction: Lehecka in 4

    Ateet
This should be a great match between two brilliant and in-from players. Lehecka has a great serve and hits huge off both wings while Bonzi likes to come at the net and is solid from the baseline. It will be tougher for Bonzi to win many free points behind his serve and that’s where Lehecka can take the match.
    Prediction: Lehecka in 4

    Liam
After Hugo Gaston’s early retirement, Lehecka will be feeling fresh and ready to go. Moreover, his monstrous ground strokes will cause most men on tour an issue, and Bonzi will be no different. The Frenchman has excelled in the opening days but will find his tournament halting to an end in the midst of a Czech domination.
    Prediction: Lehecka in 3

    Embed from Getty Images

    Alexander Zverev vs Jacob Fearnley

    Damian
Fearnley has had a lot of success facing more offensive opponents so far, but this will be a different matchup and a completely new opportunity to prove himself. Unfortunately, Zverev just doesn’t seem to have any cracks in his game at the moment. When Fearnley faces someone who can defend like that and hits a ball this heavy, he’s susceptible to going on error sprees.
    Prediction: Zverev in 4

    Ateet
The World No. 2 lost just five games in his second-round win over Pedro Martinez and was hitting his forehand with great pace. However, this match against Fearnley will be a much better indicator of Zverev’s level as Fearnley can cause some problems with his serve and variety. Fearnley will use slices and come to the net more than Zverev’s previous two opponents, so Zverev has to be prepared.
    Prediction: Zverev in 4

    Liam
Zverev has cruised into the third round without dropping a set. He is one of the favorites to claim his first career Slam. Fearnley has had a more difficult path to Round 3, but held up well in wins over Kyrgios and Cazaux. If the Brit can stay consistent from the baseline, he could give Zverev trouble. However, I see the German cruising behind his newfound serve.
    Prediction: Zverev in 4

    Carlos Alcaraz vs Nuno Borges

    Damian
Borges loves these courts and has been peaking on them for two years straight now. But there’s a big leap from doing that to actually beating Alcaraz, who’s also looking very dangerous now after making adjustments to his service motion during the off-season. With another inspired effort from the Portuguese, he might be the first player to take a set off the Spaniard at this year’s Australian Open.
    Prediction: Alcaraz in 4

    Ateet
Carlos Alcaraz has had a fairly easy draw so far and his own performance has also been great. Nuno Borges will be a tougher challenge but the match will be on the Spaniard’s racquet and he should be up for the challenge of facing an in-form player.
    Prediction: Alcaraz in 3

    Liam
You had to feel for Nishioka, at times against Alcaraz it looked as though it was two men playing different sports. Meanwhile, Borges reminds a lot of Aslan Karatsev game-style-wise. His movement isn’t his strongest point, but he can take the ball early and re-direct it so well. Unfortunately for him though, he is nowhere near the level of the Spaniard, who will continue to breeze through the early rounds.
    Prediction: Alcaraz in 3

The Australian Open Day 6 is shaping up to be an exciting day of tennis, with some highly anticipated matches on the schedule. One match that has caught the attention of many tennis fans is the clash between rising star Carlos Alcaraz and veteran player Thiago Monteiro.

Alcaraz, the 18-year-old Spanish sensation, has been making waves in the tennis world with his impressive performances and fearless playing style. He has already defeated some of the top players in the world and is seen as one of the future stars of the sport. On the other hand, Monteiro, the 28-year-old Brazilian player, is a seasoned competitor with a lot of experience on the tour.

In their upcoming match, Alcaraz is expected to come out on top with his aggressive baseline game and powerful shots. His speed and agility on the court will likely be too much for Monteiro to handle, and Alcaraz should be able to secure a victory in straight sets.

Another match to watch out for on Day 6 is the showdown between Pedro Sousa and Joao Sousa. Both players are from Portugal and have had solid performances in the tournament so far. Pedro Sousa, ranked 107th in the world, has been in good form and will look to continue his winning streak. Joao Sousa, a former top 30 player, will be aiming to make a comeback and prove that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level.

In this match, Joao Sousa is the slight favorite, as he has more experience and a higher ranking than his opponent. However, Pedro Sousa has been playing well and could cause an upset if he brings his A-game to the court. It should be a closely contested match, but Joao Sousa is expected to come out on top in the end.

Overall, Day 6 of the Australian Open promises to be a thrilling day of tennis action, with plenty of exciting matches to look forward to. Stay tuned for all the updates and results from the tournament.

Nuno Borges can’t find the kangaroos, can’t avoid Alcaraz

Get to know the Portuguese star off the court

Nuno Borges is trying to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open for the second consecutive year.
    By Andrew Eichenholz

Nuno Borges is one of the best players in the world. The Portuguese No. 1 is an ATP Tour champion, defeated the legendary Rafael Nadal and is the No. 33 player in the PIF ATP Rankings. On Friday, the 27-year-old could reach the fourth round of the Australian Open for the second straight year when he takes on third seed Carlos Alcaraz.

But while Borges is extraordinary on the court, he is just like anyone else at Melbourne Park off of it.

“In 2023 I’m pretty sure I went to the Melbourne Zoo with my physio. I don’t know if my coach didn’t want to or something. He wasn’t into it, so I convinced my physio to go with me,” Borges told ATPTour.com. “Believe it or not, we went to the Melbourne Zoo and we could not see the kangaroos or the koalas!

“It was the hottest day of the week, like 36 degrees. The koalas were already asleep, and the kangaroo habitat was under construction, or something, and they were remodeling it. So literally, there was no chance. So I came to Australia and did not get to see kangaroos!”

One year later, Borges enjoyed his breakthrough tournament. With two major match wins to his name in seven previous tournaments, the Portuguese advanced to the Round of 16 and tested eventual finalist Daniil Medvedev in a tight four-setter. Afterwards, he was determined to meet some Australian animals.

“I went to a sanctuary and I got to pet a koala and everything, so I feel like I had my experience,” Borges said. “Also there were wallabies here walking around!”

    It All Adds Up

Outside of animal visits, Borges is a fan of doing puzzles — he will usually do a couple of bigger ones a year. But it is difficult for him to do that on the road.

“How would I travel with it back? I would have to frame it and ship it. The logistics aren’t very nice, but I thought about it. I thought about getting a few but then in the end, I’ll have to have the time, at least a week or two at home in Lisbon or in Porto, where I can settle down and build it,” Borges said. “I don’t want to build 20 per cent of the puzzle, and leave it out there just dusting for months while I go to Australia, and then coming back to it, then I’m not in the rhythm. I could do it once I have my own place, maybe I can do that, but nothing has really changed.

“I don’t have that much time at home to do much more. If you do a 1,500-piece puzzle, it takes time. It’s not like you do it alone in a weekend. Impossible.”

Borges posted an offseason video on his social media baking blueberry cupcakes. But he also is a fan of more adventurous things like theme parks. He would love to visit Hong Kong Disneyland or an attraction in Tokyo.

“As long as I’m in competition, I like to stay pretty focused, because if I do go to theme parks and stuff, it can be pretty tiring — a long time waiting in line, and just all the highs and lows of adrenaline,” Borges said. “You also maybe don’t want to go through that before a match, even though it can be very stress relieving, just especially playing a Slam, best of five sets. I think if you can save any energy you can save, maybe it’s wise to do so, so I’ll save all the activities for after.”

Full focus is on facing Alcaraz, who won the pair’s lone Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting in Barcelona two years ago. Borges first came across the Spaniard at an ITF World Tennis Tour event in Martos, Spain, in June 2019. It was the sixth professional tournament of Alcaraz’s career.

“I remember that he was 16, already hitting crazy hard, already a very, very promising player out there. Everybody already knew him,” Borges said. “I remember watching him in the Oeiras Challenger, where I practised… He’s been around for a little bit, but at the very top, very quickly. It’s going be a big challenge.”

Borges believes Alcaraz has developed both physically and mentally despite only being 21.

“When he was 16, I’m sure it was a lot different, but I think his tennis was already there,” Borges said. “I remember he was already hitting pretty hard, so I think that’s what we see nowadays.”

Nuno Borges, the Portuguese tennis player, seems to be having a tough time at the ATP Tour as he can’t find the kangaroos and can’t avoid facing the rising star Carlos Alcaraz.

In a recent tournament, Borges was seen wandering around the court in search of kangaroos, a common sight in Australia where many ATP Tour events take place. However, his search was unsuccessful, leaving him perplexed and distracted during his matches.

To add insult to injury, Borges also seems to have a difficult time avoiding facing Alcaraz on the court. The young Spanish player has been on a hot streak, defeating some of the top players in the world and making a name for himself in the tennis world.

Despite these challenges, Borges continues to push forward and compete at the highest level. Hopefully, he will eventually find the kangaroos he’s been searching for and find a way to overcome his tough opponents like Alcaraz. Only time will tell if Borges can turn his luck around on the ATP Tour.
