  • Shark pup born without male present at Louisiana aquarium

Officials with the Shreveport Aquarium recently announced the unusual birth of a swell shark pup in a tank where only two female sharks were present.

Named “Yoko” from the Chumash word “onyoko,” meaning “shark,” the pup was born on Jan. 3. It hatched out of an egg that was discovered by the aquarium’s husbandry team about eight months ago.

Aquarium officials noted that the two females that were in the tank with Yoko had not had contact with a male swell shark in more than 3 years.

Given that the gestation period of swell sharks is 9-12 months, according to the Aquarium of the Pacific, the math doesn’t add up for the newborn swell shark pup.

Rather, it means that one of two phenomena occurred, officials said. One involves parthenogenesis, a rare form of reproduction without the need for a male, and the other is delayed fertilization, in which fertilization happens well after sharks have mated.

“This situation is incredible and shows the resilience of this species,” said Greg Barrick, the curator of Live Animals at Shreveport Aquarium. “We are very excited in the coming months to confirm whether this was indeed a case of parthenogenesis or if it was delayed fertilization. It really proves that life… uh… finds a way.”

The aquarium will determine what happened when Yoko is large enough for a blood draw, allowing the husbandry team to conduct a DNA analysis on the pup.

They noted that sharks born through either parthenogenesis or delayed fertilization tend to “face significant challenges” and live shorter lives. Because of this, Yoko is being closely monitored and kept away from public eyes until it is old enough to move to a larger tank.

    HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER

Unlike other sharks that give birth to live young, swell sharks usually release fertilized eggs into the water. Sometimes referred to as “mermaid’s purses”, the egg cases then attach to features such as rocks or algae, allowing the shark embryo inside to grow and later hatch from the egg.

Incredible News: Shark Pup Born Without Male Present at Louisiana Aquarium

In a stunning and rare occurrence, a female shark at a Louisiana aquarium has given birth to a healthy pup without the presence of a male shark. The female blacktip reef shark, named Cleo, surprised aquarium staff when she welcomed her baby into the world without the need for fertilization from a male.

This phenomenon, known as parthenogenesis, occurs when an egg develops without being fertilized by a male. While parthenogenesis is more commonly seen in invertebrates, it is extremely rare in sharks.

Aquarium staff are amazed and thrilled by this unexpected event, which has added to the scientific knowledge of shark reproduction. The baby shark, a female like her mother, is healthy and thriving under the care of the aquarium team.

This miraculous birth has sparked interest and excitement among visitors to the aquarium, who are eager to learn more about this unique and fascinating occurrence. Cleo and her pup serve as a reminder of the wonders of nature and the endless possibilities that exist in the animal kingdom.

Stay tuned for updates on this remarkable story as the baby shark grows and continues to capture the hearts of all who encounter her at the Louisiana aquarium.

  • Asked & Answered: Josh Allen was born at the wrong time

Every week in the NFL season brings a host of new questions … and answers some old ones, too. Let’s run down what we learned in the conference championships … and what we’ll be wondering about in the Super Bowl.

You knew how this was always going to end, didn’t you? It didn’t matter if the Bills took a three-point lead in the second quarter, or a one-point lead in the third, or tied the game up in the fourth, you always knew the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes were going to have the ball in their hands, late in the game. And you knew as surely as the sun rises that Mahomes would work the field and the clock, finding open men like the Chiefs had 14 players on the field, running down the clock like he could actually make time spin faster. This is the black magic and the inevitability of these Chiefs, that they’ll always be in the hunt, and they’ll always be the last team standing.

There’s a building backlash to the backlash against the Chiefs, that we shouldn’t be sick of this team because we’re witnessing one of the great NFL dynasties at the height of its power. But that’s the thing about dynasties — they’re enjoyable for fans of the team, and for historians, but for fans of the other 31 teams, they’re a frustrating roadblock. And for the dynasties’ chief rivals, they’re a years-long hell.

Which brings us around to Josh Allen, the most sympathetic figure in all of the ongoing Chiefs domination. Allen is a transcendent quarterback, capable of making plays that stagger the imagination and redefine the boundaries of what’s possible for the position. And yet, again and again, he keeps running up against this unstoppable juggernaut. Every loss takes another bite out of his career, and every loss brings a whole new wave of “Can he do it?” questions and critiques.

Allen was more than good enough to beat pretty much any other team in the NFL Sunday night — 237 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions — but “good enough” isn’t good enough to beat Kansas City. And now Allen has to be wondering if he’s the Charles Barkley of his era, a surpassing talent with the bad luck to be born into a time when the generation’s greatest talent is in charge.

The consoling line in times like this is always, “He’ll get another chance.” And it’s true, Allen will get another half-dozen chances, at least. But so will Mahomes. And that’s the entire problem for Buffalo … and Baltimore … and Pittsburgh … and everyone else with the misfortune to be playing in the Mahomes Era.

For a team game, NFL football sure does come down to a lot of individual moments of agony. A kicker missing a field goal is sort of the standard for this scenario, but we’ve now had two great what-ifs with tight ends missing what should have been routine catches. Baltimore’s Mark Andrews had the more egregious drop, a would-be two-point conversion that would have likely forced overtime. This week, it was Dalton Kincaid’s turn; a pass that would have kept the Bills’ final drive alive skipped off his forearms:

Granted, that was a difficult catch to make under any circumstances, and Buffalo still needed to score at least a field goal to even tie the game. (And Bills fans know all too well what would have happened had Mahomes gotten the ball back with any time left on the clock.)

But still … it was a catchable ball, and that means it will play in the minds of Bills fans (and Kincaid himself) from now until September. “Right now, it obviously hurts a lot, and it’s going to linger for a while, but eventually, you’ve got to move on,” Kincaid said after the game. “And hopefully, you grow from this, and I believe that will be the case, but for the time being, it’s going to hurt a lot.”

Buffalo fans might not be happy with that answer, but that’s all they’ve got to get them through until next season.

Were it not for the Chiefs doing what the Chiefs do, all the conversation after conference championship weekend would focus on the Eagles’ exceptional run this season. Winners of 15 of their past 16 games, the Eagles flew (sorry) under the league’s radar for much of the season as the Lions and Vikings drew the spotlight. But those two teams are gone now, and what remains is Philadelphia’s band of voracious malcontents, a defense capable of swallowing planets and an offense capable of gashing 50-plus-yard runs at any moment.

Plus, Philly knows how to play the mind game. One key statistic from Sunday’s decimation of the Commanders: Washington committed four turnovers, and Philadelphia turned every one of those into a touchdown, a psychologically backbreaking strategy. That’s a team that understands the value of every down, every gesture, every point in an overall game plan. They’ll have their challenges against Kansas City, the most psychologically tough team in the NFL, but Philadelphia will be a better match for the Chiefs than any other two NFC teams would have been.

A whole lot of dreams ended prematurely this NFL playoffs. The Lions, Vikings and Ravens, in particular — plus the Bills, of course — were already checking into the price of hotel rooms in New Orleans before cold, hard reality shut them down and ushered them into the offseason. One team that enters the offseason with more optimism than frustration, though, is Washington. That’s what happens when you overshoot your anticipated season by a good six wins, and when your season ends in the conference championship rather than in a pre-Thanksgiving mathematical elimination.

Washington did not look good on Sunday. Those four turnovers that became touchdowns … that’s the worst possible outcome from an interception or a fumble, devastating to the psyche of a young team. Jayden Daniels can do anything, but he can’t do everything, and against a defense as fearsome as Philly, he couldn’t do much of anything at all.

Still, Washington was the very embodiment of “house money” this season. The perfect encapsulation of that: a magnificently-timed ESPN investigative report Saturday that torched former owner Dan Snyder. Commanders fans got that brief look back at the misery they endured for a quarter-century … and then could refocus on their wonderful new team. Washington learned plenty of lessons this season, but the first and most important is that greatness is within their grasp after all.

The final conspiracy of the Bills’ 2024 season came on that Dalton Kincaid miss, when Jim Nantz declared that there was a flag, and CBS showed the yellow flag graphic … only for there to be no flag after all. Bills fans on X managed to convince themselves that there was a flag, only it was picked up once Kincaid missed the pass.

Look, you can’t really blame Bills fans — or anyone else, really — for being suspicious of the referees when the Chiefs are involved. We got another, much more tangible questionable decision when referees ruled Buffalo had not gained the necessary inch for a first down in the fourth quarter, a ruling that led directly to Kansas City retaking momentum and, finally, the game and the conference championship.

Combine all that with the strange moment in the NFC championship, when officials specifically said they could award the Eagles with a touchdown, and you’ve got an NFL fanbase pretty much seething at any and all officiating calls.

Not that it matters to the Chiefs:

Good luck to the refs at this year’s Super Bowl. You’re going to be watched more closely than the commercials.

In normal circumstances, we’d say the Eagles by double digits. But these aren’t normal circumstances, and somehow the Chiefs always seem to find a way. We’ll save our formal prediction for later, but for now … maybe don’t go betting the mortgage on the Birds, Eagles fans, no matter how good you feel right this moment.

Josh Allen, the standout quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, has been turning heads in the NFL with his incredible arm strength and impressive athleticism. However, some fans and analysts believe that Allen was born at the wrong time.

Many point to the fact that Allen entered the league during a time when quarterbacks are expected to be accurate passers and proficient decision-makers. Allen’s completion percentage and interception rate have been criticized, with some arguing that he would have been better suited to play in an era when quarterbacks were valued more for their physical tools than their efficiency.

Despite these criticisms, Allen has proven himself as a dynamic playmaker and leader on the field. He has shown tremendous growth and improvement each season, leading the Bills to the playoffs and earning Pro Bowl honors.

In the end, whether or not Josh Allen was born at the “wrong time” is up for debate. What cannot be denied, however, is his undeniable talent and potential to become one of the league’s top quarterbacks in any era. Let’s continue to watch and appreciate the incredible performances he brings to the field each week. #JoshAllen #BuffaloBills #NFL

  • Vincent D’Onofrio teases Mayor Fisk in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ trailer (exclusive)

They’re not exactly friends, but they do have a history. The new trailer for Daredevil: Born Again is framed around a scene of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) talking together at a New York City diner. Taking a break from their alter egos as vigilante Daredevil and crime lord Kingpin, these two seem to be chatting rather amiably — but there’s a bloody history lurking beneath their words.

This scene carries weight, not least because it’s rare. In fact, Cox exclusively tells Entertainment Weekly that he and D’Onofrio worked to minimize the amount of scenes they share together in the upcoming revival series, to save the impact for when it matters most.

“I believe you have to be really careful when and how you bring these two people into the same room because we have to feel like when they meet, it is an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object,” Cox says. “It has to feel like it could and will explode. The more you bring us together with no consequence, the less that illusion can maintain itself.”

Cox continues, “there’s actually an episode later on in the season where in an original draft we had a conversation, and I brought this up. I said, ‘I worry that if you tell the story that we can have a conversation and walk away from it at this stage, we lose a lot of stakes.’ So they found a really cool way to not have us do that.”

Sign up for Entertainment Weekly’s free daily newsletter to get breaking TV news, exclusive first looks, recaps, reviews, interviews with your favorite stars, and more.

Although the rivalry between Daredevil and Kingpin is likely what Daredevil fans are most excited to see in Born Again, the trailer makes clear that other old friends will be along for the ride as well. Jon Bernthal reprises his role as Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher — and if Matt is asking him for help, you know the stakes are high. On a lighter note, Matt’s old friends Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) are also back, which makes Cox very happy.

“I think of Karen and Foggy as being the heartbeat of Daredevil,” Cox says. “Without them, nothing that Matt does really has any emotional impact. The humanity and vulnerability that they brought to those characters allows me as Matt to really delve into the darkness.”

The new trailer also confirms something that was first hinted at in the Echo finale: Fisk will be running for mayor of New York City. Hey, if Donald Trump can be re-elected president while under legal indictment, why can’t the Kingpin of Crime become the legal leader of New York? Though the storyline is inspired by the recent “Mayor Fisk” saga in Marvel’s Daredevil comic (written by Charles Soule and Christos Gage, with art by Ron Garney and Stefano Landini), D’Onofrio says viewers should prepare for the unexpected.

“Anything on our show is, nine out of 10 times, leading to something that’s even bigger and crazier,” says D’Onofrio, talking carefully to avoid premature spoilers. “For Fisk, this journey is a path to more control.”

Daredevil: Born Again premieres March 4 on Disney+. Watch the full trailer above.

Vincent D’Onofrio teases Mayor Fisk in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ trailer (exclusive)

Fans of the hit Netflix series “Daredevil” have been eagerly anticipating the release of the upcoming season, and now they have even more reason to be excited. A new trailer for “Daredevil: Born Again” has been released, giving viewers a glimpse of what’s to come in the highly anticipated season.

In the trailer, we see Vincent D’Onofrio reprising his role as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, who now holds the title of Mayor of New York City. As the trailer unfolds, we see Fisk’s grip on the city tighten as he uses his power and influence to further his own agenda.

D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Fisk has been widely praised by fans and critics alike, and it looks like he will be delivering another powerful performance in the upcoming season. The trailer hints at the intense showdowns and moral dilemmas that await Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, as he faces off against his most formidable foe yet.

With the return of fan-favorite characters and the introduction of new faces, “Daredevil: Born Again” is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons yet. Stay tuned for more updates and be sure to mark your calendars for the premiere date. Daredevil fans won’t want to miss this thrilling new chapter in the story of the Man Without Fear.

  • Born Again’ Trailer, At Long Last

While there may be a certain amount of MCU fatigue in the present market, the one exception that I think all fans are going to make is for the return of Matt Murdoch in Daredevil: Born Again. After a pair of leaked, terribly-filmed trailers, we now have an official one from Disney that has been released less than two months ahead of its release on March 4, 2025.

Here’s the spot below which I think was one of the leaked ones, but regardless, it’s the only one you need to be watching. And it is incredible.

It’s a full gallery of characters on display, from a retired (temporarily) Matt Murdoch to a now-mayor, still-violent Kingpin. We also see the return of Foggy and Karen, who were originally cut, and maybe even killed offscreen, when the first draft of this show was written, and eventually thrown out. Thank god.

Another returning vet is Frank Castle, The Punisher, looking more insane than usual. There are rumors he may end up with his own show at some point here. Well, the resurrection of his old show, in any case. And speaking of, we very much see that Disney is allowing full MA-rated content on display here, staying true to the original Netflix series. Also, if Castle is being shown here in the first trailer, I have to wonder what other cameos may be hidden, be they from the MCU, or returning Netflix vets like Luke Cage or Jessica Jones. Oh, and even Bullseye is back, we see briefly.

We also see two new characters including White Tiger, Hector Ayala. But more pressingly we see the new villain of the season, besides Kingpin that is, Muse, a psychopath murderer who looks terrifying in the brief time we see him in the trailer.

Of course, we know Matt is not staying retired, and we do in fact see him back in the Daredevil costume, slinging around his cord-attached clubs in what will no doubt be another series of epic fight scenes, the ones the series has been known for.

Truly, I don’t think there is any current Marvel project with more hype than this. Matt Murdoch has been teased to return in three different projects now, Spider-Man No Way Home, She-Hulk and Echo, and finally, finally, he’s back. And with a show that actually looks good instead of whatever nightmare they originally wrote and threw away. See him back in action on March 4.

  • The Sidney Crosby-Alexander Ovechkin rivalry was born 20 years ago in Grand Forks – Grand Forks Herald

The Sidney Crosby-Alexander Ovechkin rivalry was born 20 years ago in Grand Forks – Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS — The NHL was in a bitter lockout 20 years ago, one that eventually led to the cancellation of the entire season.

It was perfect timing for Grand Forks and Thief River Falls.

The World Junior Championship was in town that year. The lockout meant all eligible players would play in the event.

Normally, a handful of the top under-20 players in the world are already in the NHL and don’t get released to play in the World Juniors.

But in 2004, there was no NHL and it led to perhaps the most talent-laden World Junior Championship of all time.

The previous summer’s No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks — Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin — wouldn’t have played in the World Juniors in a normal year. They’d have been in the NHL. But due to the lockout, they were in Grand Forks and Thief River Falls.

Twenty years ago Saturday, two of the NHL’s all-time greats played against each other for the first time in Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Ovechkin and Team Russia played Sidney Crosby and Team Canada in the gold-medal game.

Canada, which boasted arguably the greatest junior hockey team ever assembled, beat Russia 6-1.

Crosby had an assist and finished the tournament as one of the top-10 scorers. Ovechkin suffered a shoulder injury on a hit by Canada’s Dion Phaneuf in the first period and was held without a point. Ovechkin still tied for the tournament lead in goals.

Crosby and Ovechkin entered the NHL together the following year.

They have gone on to be two of the sport’s all-time greats.

Crosby has captained the Pittsburgh Penguins to three Stanley Cups. He ranks 10th all-time in points, about to pass Joe Sakic.

Ovechkin captained the Washington Capitals to their first Stanley Cup. He’s 24 goals away from breaking the all-time record, which belongs to Wayne Gretzky, who attended the gold-medal game in Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Crosby and Ovechkin have gone head-to-head in the Stanley Cup Playoffs four times. Each time, the winner of that series went on to win the Stanley Cup. It was Pittsburgh in 2009, 2016 and 2017. It was Washington in 2018.

Crosby and Ovechkin also played against each other in one of the earliest NHL Winter Classics in 2011 at Heinz Field.

Crosby had quite a bit of help on Team Canada that year.

Only two players on Canada’s roster — forward Stephen Dixon and backup goalie Rejean Beauchemin — did not play in the NHL.

Nearly half of Canada’s roster — nine of 22 players — reached the 1,000-game mark in the NHL.

On the list: Corey Perry (1,349 and counting), Jeff Carter (1,321 and counting), Crosby (1,312 and counting), Patrice Bergeron (1,294), Ryan Getzlaf (1,157), Brent Seabrook (1,114), Dion Phaneuf (1,048), Shea Weber (1,038) and Andrew Ladd (1,001).

Brayden Coburn (983) narrowly missed the 1,000-game mark.

Two-time Stanley Cup champion and NHL All-Star Mike Richards (749 NHL games) was Canada’s captain.

Seabrook (three), Crosby (three), Carter (two), Richards (two), Bergeron, Getzlaf and Perry all won Stanley Cups.

Ovechkin (1,448 NHL games and counting) and Malkin (1,185 and counting) led the Russians. Both went on to win NHL MVP awards. Alexander Radukov (524) was the next most-prominent NHL player.

There were plenty of other notable players across other teams.

Czechia, which beat the Americans in overtime for the bronze medal, had Stanley Cup champion David Krejci (1,032), Michael Frolik (858) and Roman Polak (806).

The Americans had Ryan Suter (1,484 and counting), Phil Kessel (1,286), Alex Goligoski (1,078) and Drew Stafford (841).

Finland had Vezina Trophy winner and Stanley Cup champion Tuukka Rask. Germany had William Jennings Trophy winner Thomas Greiss. Slovakia had Andrej Meszaros (645) and two-time Willing Jennings Trophy winner Jaroslav Halak. Sweden had Loui Eriksson (1,050) and Anton Stralman (983).

Bergeron, who won the Selke Trophy for the NHL’s best defensive forward a record six times, was named tournament MVP.

The directorate awards for the best at each position went to Ovechkin (forward), Phaneuf (defenseman) and Marek Schwarz (goaltender). Schwarz played six NHL games for the St. Louis Blues.

The all-star team featured Ovechkin, Bergeron, Carter, Phaneuf, Suter and Schwarz.

  • Inside the legend of Bruce Springsteen’s lost ‘Born to Run’ piano

Inside the legend of Bruce Springsteen’s lost ‘Born to Run’ piano

The piano Bruce Springsteen used to write the album “Born to Run” is missing somewhere in the swamps of Jersey — but could be worth a fortune if ever recovered.

Little is known about the old piano, but anyone in the vicinity of Long Branch with a beat-up old Aeolian upright in their basement would do well to check under the lid — according to legend, the entire E Street band signed it when they finished recording Born to Run, then left the piano behind in Bruce’s old house.

“Whoever discovers that piano, and opens it up and sees the signatures, will find that they’ve happened upon the holy grail in Springsteen world,” said Rob Kirkpatrick, an E Street superfan and the author of “Magic in the Night: The Words and Music of Bruce Springsteen.”

Bruce Springsteen feels out a tune on a different piano before a May, 1974, performance at the Harvard Square Theater Barry Schneier Photography http://www.barryschneierphotography.com

The instrument hasn’t been seen since the early 1990s, when Springsteen’s one-time landlord Marilyn Rocky had it hauled onto the sidewalk after years of it sitting in the modest Long Branch home she rented out to the rocker as he was working on the legendary album.

“When I rented the house to Bruce in 1974, he moved in and he had this little upright piano. When he moved out two years later, he left it there,” said Rocky, who would shout out the house’s number – “Seven-and-a-half!” – while watching Bruce play small clubs back in the early days.

When he heard her, he would tell the audience his “Landlordess” was in the crowd, she said.

Rocky, now 81, first met Springsteen when he was just 24-years old and down on his luck as he chased stardom. By then he had two albums under his belt, both of which had been met with critical acclaim — but they’d sold abysmally, and Columbia Records was promising to drop him if the third wasn’t a hit.

He’d been all but homeless while touring for the past two years, but the Boss was looking for a place to dig in and write another album when he walked into Rocky’s real estate office and asked for a rental on his rock and roll turf in Asbury Park.

She had nothing there, but offered him a shotgun-shack she owned up the coast in Long Branch for $200 a month, she said.

Marilyn Rocky, now 81, rented Springsteen her Long Branch shotgun-shack for $200 a month in 1974 and ’75 Aristide Economopoulos

“He was just so young, he was a boy,” Rocky said. “And this was the first time ever that he lived on his own outside of his house, or wasn’t sleeping on the floor of the Student Prince in Asbury, or on the road doing concerts.”

Springsteen was a stand-up tenant, Rocky said. He reportedly tended the row of bushes along the porch, and would sometimes pay his rent months in advance in anticipation of long stretches of insolvency while he was on road touring, or in the studio without pay.

And he spent his nights seated at the Aeolian piano he’d brought along and pushed against a wall in the front room, feeling his way across the keyboard of an instrument he barely knew how to play.

The previous two albums — “Greetings from Asbury Park” and “The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle” — had been written on guitar, but Bruce turned to the piano for the first time while writing “Born to Run,” and it transformed his sound, according to Kirkpatrick.

“Bruce has always primarily been a guitar player,” Kirkpatrick said. “Which is not to say he couldn’t play piano, but he’d described himself as ‘the fastest guitar in Asbury Park.’

A note Bruce Springsteen wrote to Marilyn Rocky about paying rent late when she as his landlord in the 1970s Marilyn Egolf Rocky/Facebook

“It must affect your writing process to not be on your primary instrument,” Kirkpatrick said. “And on songs like ‘Backstreets,’ I think we hear the fruits of Bruce composing a song not as a virtuoso on piano, but as someone who is writing very deliberately for emotion rather than technique.”

Those fruits became music history. “Born to Run” was a smash hit when it was released in August 1975, and launched Springsteen to stardom. That October he landed on the cover of Time and Newsweek on the same day; by November he was touring overseas for the first time; and to this day the album remains one of the defining achievements of rock and roll.

And it all started on the piano he left behind in Marilyn Rocky’s living room, where it sat steadily going out of tune for two decades.

“Subsequent renters just left it in the living room, used it for whatever they found it useful for,” said Rocky, who sold the house sometime between ’93 and ’94 and told her last tenant to toss all the furniture to the curb for trash pickup.

Springsteen landed on the cover of Time and Newsweek magazines on the same day after Born to Run was released

“It was not a good piece of furniture. It was old and beat up. Although, from what I recall, you could still pick out a tune on the keys, but it had really been sitting there for 20 years.”

Days later she was at the dentist, and of all people ran into Springsteen’s right-hand man and saxophone player Clarence Clemons — he was also getting his teeth cleaned — and he asked if she still had the old piano.

“He said, ‘Well, you know, when we finished writing all the music for ‘Born to Run,’ some of us were in the house one day and we saw it. We lifted up the top and we signed it and left it there for you.’”

Floored, Rocky rushed to a phone and called up her tenant to tell them not to leave until she had the piano — but it was too late.

Born to Run would rocket Bruce Springsteen to fame when he released it in August 1975 when he was just 25 years old Redferns

“He said, ‘Well, that’s problem.’ And I said, ‘Problem being what?’ And he said, Well, you told me to clean things out, that old piano’s been sitting there… I threw it out’ And he said it was picked up two days ago.’”

“That’s the last anybody has ever seen or heard of it.”

Rocky thinks the piano was likely picked up by the garbage collectors and that it’s “melted into the soil” in a dump somewhere. But that hasn’t stopped rock and roll treasure-hunters from hunting for it over the years on the possibility that it ended up saved from the sidewalk, or that it still lives in a dump somewhere.

“I once got a call from the president of the Piano Technicians Guild, who asked me if I could give them the exact date that the piano was thrown out and where the garbage would have been taken,” she said, explaining they told her if Bruce had the instrument professionally tuned then the association would likely have a record of it and they’d be able to confirm its identity – if it could just be found.

But in the three decades since it went missing nobody has been able to track it down — and auction appraiser Leila Dunbar thinks it would be worth at least $300,000 if it ever turned up in salvageable condition

“And given the market, it could sell for more,” she added, explaining that Freddie Mercury’s piano used to write “Bohemian Rhapsody” sold for $2.1 million in 2023, while the piano John Lennon wrote “Imagine” with sold for $2.1 million in 2000 and would be worth up to $10 million today.

Though not an appraiser, as a bona fide superfan Kirkpatrick thinks a “serious collector” would put down “seven figures” if the piano was ever found in salvageable condition.

“Any history of rock and roll in the 20th century is incomplete without talking about Born to Run,” he said. “So the instrument on which most of it was composed and which gave it it’s musical identity —the value of such a piece is… it’s invaluable.”

As for Rocky, she thinks her time with Bruce and the band was worth far more than whatever price the piano could ever have fetched her.

“If I didn’t know I had it or that they signed it, I certainly didn’t lose anything!” she said.

Bruce Springsteen’s iconic album “Born to Run” is widely regarded as one of the greatest rock albums of all time, but did you know that there is a legendary story surrounding the recording of the title track?

The piano used on the recording of “Born to Run” has become the stuff of rock ‘n’ roll folklore. According to legend, Springsteen’s longtime friend and collaborator, Roy Bittan, played a grand piano that had been left behind in the studio by another artist. The piano had a unique sound that perfectly complemented the epic, anthemic vibe of the song, and Springsteen insisted on using it for the recording.

However, after the album was completed, the piano mysteriously disappeared. Some say it was stolen, others claim it was lost in transit during a move. Regardless of how it went missing, the piano has never been found, adding to its mystique.

Fans and music historians have long wondered about the fate of the lost “Born to Run” piano. Was it sold, destroyed, or simply forgotten in some dusty warehouse? The truth remains elusive, but the legend lives on in the hearts of Springsteen fans everywhere.

The story of the lost “Born to Run” piano serves as a reminder of the magic and mystery of rock ‘n’ roll, and the enduring power of music to captivate and inspire. And who knows, maybe one day the piano will resurface, bringing with it a wave of nostalgia and a renewed appreciation for Springsteen’s timeless masterpiece.

Generation Beta is coming: Babies born in 2025 will experience a world like no other

As we approach the year 2025, a new generation of babies is set to be born, marking the beginning of what will be known as Generation Beta. Defined as those born between 2025 and 2039, this cohort of children will follow in the footsteps of Generation Alpha, the children born from around 2010 to 2024, and will grow up in an increasingly complex and interconnected world shaped by rapid technological advances and global challenges.

According to social researcher Mark McCrindle, who coined the term “Generation Alpha”, Generation Beta will face a future defined by rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, sustainability, and global population changes.

    Who are Generation Beta?

Generation Beta will consist of children born from 2025 to 2039, making them the children of younger Gen Ys (Millennials) and older Gen Zs. By 2035, it is expected that they will make up 16% of the global population, a significant demographic that will influence future economies, cultures, and societies, as per McCrindle’s blog post.

One of the most notable characteristics of Generation Beta will be their longevity. With advances in healthcare and technology, many children born during this period are expected to live well into the 22nd century, potentially experiencing a life span much longer than previous generations.

A world of transformation and challenges

As these children grow, they will inherit a world grappling with numerous societal challenges. Climate change, global population shifts, and rapid urbanization will be pressing issues that influence their lives. Mark McCrindle emphasizes that sustainability will no longer be a choice but a necessity. For Generation Beta, environmental consciousness and a sustainable lifestyle will be ingrained from an early age, as they will be tasked with finding solutions to the pressing ecological concerns of the 21st century.

Technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, will be a dominant force in their daily lives. According to McCrindle, by the time Generation Beta comes of age, these technologies will be fully embedded in education, workplaces, healthcare, and entertainment.

“Generation Beta will live in an era where AI and automation are fully embedded in everyday life—from education and workplaces to healthcare and entertainment,” he explained.

Who will make up Generation Beta?

Generation Beta will primarily consist of children born to younger Gen Ys (Millennials) and older Gen Zs. These parents, who are familiar with the digital age and the rise of social media, will raise their children in a vastly different world—one where artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and sustainability are key aspects of daily life.

While Millennials and Gen Z have witnessed and adapted to significant technological shifts, Generation Beta will be born into an even more interconnected, automated, and technologically advanced world. They are the first generation to experience the full impact of AI-driven technologies, shaping not only how they learn and work but also how they interact with the world around them.

    A generation set for longevity

Many children born in this period are expected to live well into the 22nd century, thanks to advances in healthcare and longevity technologies. This remarkable life expectancy will present unique challenges and opportunities for the generation, as they will need to navigate not only the complexities of a rapidly changing world but also potentially extended lifespans.

    Key characteristics of Generation Beta

Global Impact: By 2035, Generation Beta is expected to make up 16% of the world’s population, highlighting their significance on a global scale. Their decisions, values, and actions will shape economies, cultures, and industries worldwide.

Technological integration: Unlike previous generations, Generation Beta will be surrounded by artificial intelligence and automation from birth. These technologies will be fully integrated into their education systems, workplaces, healthcare, and entertainment. The influence of AI will be pervasive in their everyday lives, allowing them to adapt to a future where machine learning and automation are commonplace.
