Ticketmaster UK boss tells MPs prices are very fair
Getty Images
The boss of Ticketmaster UK has told MPs tickets are” very fairly priced”.
Andrew Parsons was appearing before the Business and Trade Select Committee, after fans slammed his company’s “dynamic pricing” of Oasis reunion-tour tickets last summer.
The company did not set ticket prices, which were decided ahead of sales, he said.
“Where differing price tiers [are] made available, that’s a choice of the event organiser. Selling a small amount of tickets at a higher-priced tier seems fairly reasonable.”
Many fans said they had paid significantly more than expected for tickets to see Oasis – up to £350 per ticket, about £200 more than advertised.
But Mr Parsons denied prices fluctuated during a general sale.
‘Gobbled up’
“We work closely with event organisers to be able sell tickets at the prices that they’ve determined,” he told the committee.
“There’s no technology-driven change to those prices.
“They are the prices which humans have agreed to.
“There’s not a computer or a bot behind it.”
The band themselves had also hit out at the system, saying: “It needs to be made clear that Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management.”
But Mr Parsons told the committee: “If we’re not able to [capture] that value, which the artist is doing in those instances, then that money is just going to go, and the tickets are going to be captured and gobbled up by touts.”
The MPs did not ask about the Oasis sale specifically, as the Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) is looking into whether Ticketmaster breached consumer-protection law.
Clamp down
Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation, is the world’s biggest live events promoter.
And Charlie Maynard MP urged the CMA, also represented at the hearing, to launch a separate investigation into Live Nation’s “dominant market share”.
But Mr Parsons told the committee Ticketmaster and Live Nation “have clear divides between how we operate on a daily basis” and the UK ticketing market was “as competitive as any market in the world”.
Ticketmaster UK also commented on the government’s public consultation which has proposed a range of actions including a cap of up to 30% on the resale of tickets.
Mr Parsons said the company was in favour of a cap but that “30% still gives the opportunity for touts to be able to be running a business in that manner”.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy announced plans last month to clamp down on touts who bulk-buy tickets and then resell them for huge profits.
Ticketmaster UK boss defends ticket prices, says they are “very fair”During a recent hearing with MPs, the boss of Ticketmaster UK defended the ticket prices for events, stating that they are “very fair” and reflect the value of the experience being offered to customers.
In response to concerns raised about the high cost of tickets for popular events, the Ticketmaster UK boss explained that pricing is based on a variety of factors, including demand, production costs, and the artist’s fees. He emphasized that Ticketmaster works to ensure that tickets are priced appropriately to ensure the sustainability of the live events industry.
The boss also highlighted that Ticketmaster offers a range of ticket options, including early bird discounts, group rates, and package deals, to make events more accessible to a wider audience.
Overall, the Ticketmaster UK boss maintained that the company is committed to providing a fair and transparent ticketing system that benefits both customers and event organizers.

Allison Holker Says Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss Changed After ‘Ayahuasca Journey’
Allison Holker Boss recalls the moment when she says Stephen “tWitch” Boss changed forever.
During an interview on The Jamie Kern Lima Show while promoting her memoir This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light, Holker Boss revealed that her late husband embarked on an “ayahuasca journey” and “wasn’t the same afterwards.”
“I think it was a very big turning point for him,” she said. “I feel like his heart was never really in the same place when he came back. There was something missing in his eyes.”
“It just kind of feels like he opened something up to himself that he never healed. And never fully escaped,” added Holker Boss, 36.
The professional dancer went on to say that she was “really sad” about what her husband went through, and despite it all, she would remember him as “a wonderful person.”
However, she also noted that while she “will always” celebrate Boss, she also couldn’t “celebrate so much of his [choices]” — especially the ones that would leave a lasting impact on their children. (The two share a son Maddox, 9 next month, and daughter Zaia, 5, while Holker Boss also has 16-year-old daughter Weslie from a previous relationship.)
“That’s a really fine line I have to walk as a mother right now … because [the kids] are very hurt by their father’s decision,” she said. “And they have a lot of triggers that they have to be in therapy now to really work through.”
“But what I am impressed with is that they are doing the work, and they are putting in the time, and they are finding joy in life, and they are finding laughter again,” Holker Boss continued. “But there’s a lot to unpack for them that they’ll have to deal with for the rest of their lives.”
Last month, the So You Think You Can Dance judge opened up about her decision to share her and Stephen’s story in her memoir — which also details his struggles ahead of his death by suicide in December 2022 at age 40 — after facing criticism from his loved ones and social media.
“To fans of Stephen and our family and friends, I want to be clear that my only intention in writing the book is to share my own story as well as part of my life with Stephen to help other people,” Holker Boss said at the time. “Just like you, I never really knew what happened, and even as I am trying to put the pieces together I will never really know.”

She continued, in part, “I hope that by sharing our full story maybe I can help someone else who might see themselves or a loved one in Stephen. In sharing I hope maybe they catch some [of] the red flags that I missed before it’s too late.”
Holker Boss shared that over the last two years since his death, she has “spoken in detail” with National Alliance of Mental Health, Solomon Family Solutions and The Defensive Line to “better educate myself on mental health issues so that I can share warning signs with others.”
“My hope is that we don’t need to lose another husband, brother, father or friend to suicide,” she continued. “I believe that if Stephen were able to choose, he would choose to have his story told if it meant saving even one life.”
“Much love to all those who supported our family these many years,” Holker Boss concluded.

Allison Holker, the talented dancer and choreographer, recently opened up about her husband Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’s transformation after his Ayahuasca journey. In a candid interview, she shared how the experience had a profound impact on him and changed him in unexpected ways.Ayahuasca is a powerful plant medicine known for its psychedelic properties and spiritual healing effects. Many people who have tried it report experiencing profound insights, emotional healing, and a deeper connection to themselves and the world around them.
For tWitch, the Ayahuasca journey was a life-changing experience that helped him confront his fears, insecurities, and past traumas. Allison revealed that he emerged from the journey with a newfound sense of clarity, purpose, and inner peace.
“He’s become more introspective, more compassionate, and more in tune with his emotions,” Allison shared. “It’s like he’s tapped into a deeper part of himself that he didn’t even know existed.”
While the couple’s relationship has always been strong, Allison admitted that tWitch’s transformation has brought them even closer together. She praised him for his willingness to explore new ways of healing and growth, and for the positive impact it has had on their family.
“I’m so proud of him for taking this journey and embracing the changes that have come with it,” Allison said. “He’s always been an amazing partner and father, but seeing him evolve in this way has been truly inspiring.”
As more people turn to alternative healing modalities like Ayahuasca, stories like tWitch’s serve as a reminder of the transformative power of plant medicine and the importance of self-exploration and growth. Allison’s message of support and encouragement for her husband’s journey is a powerful reminder of the importance of love, understanding, and acceptance in relationships.
Overall, Allison Holker’s revelation about tWitch’s transformation after his Ayahuasca journey serves as a reminder of the power of healing, growth, and self-discovery. It is a testament to the transformative potential of plant medicine and the profound impact it can have on individuals and relationships.

Former PlayStation Boss Names One Feature the PS6 Should Not Exclude
Summary
- Former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden believes that the PS6 must include an optical disc drive.
- While Sony has already started offering discless consoles during the PS5 generation, an all-digital PS6 would alienate too many existing users, Layden believes.
- The industry veteran suspects the rumored standalone PlayStation handheld will also have to support cartridges or some other form of physical media for much the same reasons, assuming that device ever makes it to the market.
Shawn Layden, the former Chairman, President, and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, believes that the PlayStation 6 should include a physical disc drive at all costs. The industry veteran said as much during a recent interview, which saw him explain why he doesn’t believe Sony can pull off an all-digital PlayStation console generation just yet.
The PS5 Digital Edition was Sony’s first-ever home console that launched without an optical disc drive. Since then, the company has also introduced the PS5 Pro and a discless variant of the PS5 Slim, both of which can be equipped with a separately purchased Blu-ray drive. In light of these product releases, some fans and industry watchers alike have been speculating that Sony might be gearing up for an all-digital console generation sooner rather than later.

Rumor: PS6 Leak May Hint at Console’s Release Window
A well-known hardware leaker provides some new information that may hint at the potential release window of Sony’s PlayStation 6.
Former SIE Worldwide Studios CEO Shawn Layden disagrees with this forecast, having said as much during a recent interview with YouTube channel Kiwi Talkz. “I don’t think Sony can get away with [an all-digital PS6] now,” the industry veteran said. Elaborating on this notion, Layden noted that Sony’s home consoles continue to see plenty of use in environments with slow internet speeds or no connectivity whatsoever, whether due to technical or security reasons. From rural players to users on military bases, there are still many consumers who would be unable to consistently enjoy modern PlayStation games if Sony stopped supporting physical media, the former PlayStation boss said.
A Discless PS6 Lineup Would Alienate Many PlayStation Users
Given this state of affairs, a fully discless PS6 lineup would alienate a significant portion of PlayStation users, which Layden cites as the main reason why Sony likely can’t pull off an all-digital home console generation just yet. Although the former SIE executive didn’t speculate beyond the tenth console generation, some other market watchers already did. E.g., Circana analyst Mat Piscatella previously predicted that the PS7 will be Sony’s first all-digital console.
Rumored PlayStation Handheld Will Likely Have to Support Physical Media As Well
Elsewhere during the interview, Layden discussed the challenges of an all-digital console generation through the prism of recent reports about Sony developing a new standalone PlayStation handheld. While the portable form factor would rule out support for Blu-ray discs, that doesn’t mean Sony could make it entirely digital either—for the same reasons that a discless PS6 would be problematic, Layden explained. As a result, he expects Sony’s rumored handheld to feature a physical media option, possibly using Switch-like cartridges, assuming the device ever materializes. Layden holds similar expectations for the Xbox handheld, which Microsoft recently confirmed is in the prototyping stage but has yet to be approved for commercialization.
I don’t think Sony can get away with [an all-digital PS6] now.
Several Sony executives have previously said that the PS5 had entered the latter half of its life cycle as of early 2024. In light of those remarks and the company’s track record with console release timings, the PS6 is expected to hit the market in either late 2027 or Q4 2028.
Former PlayStation Boss Jim Ryan recently spoke out about one feature that he believes the upcoming PS6 should not exclude: backwards compatibility. In an interview with IGN, Ryan emphasized the importance of backwards compatibility in gaming consoles, stating that it allows gamers to access and play their favorite titles from previous generations. He pointed out that the PS5’s backwards compatibility feature has been well-received by fans, and he believes that this should be a key feature in future PlayStation consoles as well.
Ryan’s comments come as rumors swirl about the upcoming PS6, with many speculating about what new features and improvements it will bring. While details about the PS6 are still scarce, Ryan’s endorsement of backwards compatibility suggests that this feature will likely be a priority for Sony in the development of their next console.
As fans eagerly await more news about the PS6, it seems that they can at least rest assured that one beloved feature will not be left behind.

Former PlayStation Boss Shawn Layden Says Sony Can’t Get Away With Making PS6 Disc-less
Former Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios CEO Shawn Layden has said Sony can’t get away with launching the PlayStation 6 console as an all digital, disc-less console.
Layden told Kiwi Talkz that, while Xbox has found success in that regard, PlayStation has such a large market share that it would be shutting out too many people by removing physical and offline games from its library.
“I don’t think Sony can get away with it now,” Layden said. “I think Xbox has had more success in pursuing that strategy, but Xbox is really most successful in their business in a clutch of countries: the U.S., Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. Coincidentally enough all English speaking countries.
Sony’s market is globally so huge, I think it would be hard for them to go fully disc-less.“Sony, which is the number one platform in probably 170 countries around the world, has an obligation or a responsibility to say, ‘If we go discless, how much of my market is not able to make that jump? Can users in rural Italy get a decent connection to enjoy games?’”
Layden gave further examples of parts of the market that rely on physical or offline games, such as travelling athletes or military bases, but said PlayStation is likely already investigating how many of those groups it’s willing to move away from.
“Which part of your market will be damaged by going to disc-less market?” Layden asked. “I’m sure they’re doing their research on it. And there will be a tipping point, where there’s some percentage where you can say, ‘Okay that’s fine, we can turn our back on that part of the market.’ But Sony’s market is globally so huge, I think it would be hard for them to go fully disc-less, even with the next generation.”
This conversation has been ongoing in the video game industry since the PlayStation 4 generation but was ramped up, as Layden noted, by the release of digital only consoles on the Xbox side. Both hardware titans released digital only versions of the current PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, but Sony has resisted going all in.
This is because even its digital consoles, including the $700 PlayStation 5 Pro, can both be upgraded with a separate disc drive to run physical games as normal. With Xbox already having gone all in with the likes of Game Pass, however, and Sony following suit with the PlayStation Plus Games Catalog, many have questioned how long it will be before disc-based games are phased out completely.
This comes as sales of physical media, including games, continue to dwindle, and many major publishers are even shipping games in unplayable states without an internet connection, even on disc. The Japan-set Assassin’s Creed Shadows from Ubisoft requires an internet connection to install, for example, while EA released Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in a similar state.
With actual discs becoming less of a priority, what would once be included as a second disc (with an install disc and a play disc) is now essentially added as downloadable content.
Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He’ll talk about The Witcher all day.
In a recent interview, former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden made a bold statement about Sony’s future plans for the PlayStation console. Layden expressed his belief that Sony cannot afford to release a disc-less version of the PlayStation 6, stating that the company would not be able to get away with it.Layden argued that while digital-only consoles may be convenient for some players, there is still a significant portion of the gaming community that prefers physical discs. He emphasized the importance of giving players options and maintaining the traditional disc-based model for future PlayStation consoles.
This statement from Layden is particularly interesting given the recent trend towards digital gaming and the success of disc-less consoles like the Xbox Series S. It will be intriguing to see how Sony responds to this criticism as they continue to develop and release new iterations of the PlayStation console.

Amorim’s men held 65% of the ball but were poor without the ball for much of the other 35%, as defender Harry Maguire had a rough day amidst a recent resurgence in the back line.

New Aston Villa boss Natalia Arroyo is ready to prove she is the right woman for the job after landing a “dream” role in the Women’s Super League.
The 38-year-old Spaniard, who left Real Sociedad at the end of the 2023-24 season, has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal and is the permanent replacement for Robert de Pauw, who was sacked in December.
Her first game in charge is against Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea on Sunday, a match you can watch live on BBC Two and iPlayer.
“I am excited to be here and to have the opportunity to coach and be a manager in the best league in Europe,” Arroyo said.
“The club has a big history, it is a great project and they are really trying to make the women’s team bigger here year after year and that is something that motivates me.
“I crossed my fingers it would happen and it finally happened and it’s like a dream come true, but I haven’t had time to dream.
“I am excited and I feel prepared but I respect I need to prove that I am prepared. The team is in a good position to be better and I think I can help them.”
Interim boss Shaun Goater steadied the ship after De Pauw’s departure, going unbeaten in his first four games before last Sunday’s 4-2 defeat by Manchester City.
Villa sit eighth in the WSL with just three wins from their opening 12 games, but Arroyo is not focusing on her side’s league position.
“We have this challenge to understand our position in the table is not where we want to be,” Arroyo said.
“Our mission and our goal in these months is to make this gap [with the top teams] shorter. Not in terms of points, but feeling we can really compete with them in every game.
“We won’t win the league, we need to accept that. We are too far away, but to really believe whatever we start building today will help us be strong tomorrow and in the future.”
Natalia Arroyo: Aston Villa boss on her ‘dream’ job in WSLNatalia Arroyo, the newly appointed manager of Aston Villa Women’s team, has described her new role as a dream come true. The former Real Madrid Women’s coach is excited to be taking the reins at one of the top clubs in the Women’s Super League (WSL) and is determined to make her mark in the English footballing scene.
Arroyo, who hails from Spain, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the Villa squad. She is known for her tactical acumen and ability to develop young talent, qualities that will be crucial in guiding Villa to success in the upcoming WSL season.
Speaking about her new role, Arroyo said, “I am thrilled to be joining Aston Villa Women and to have the opportunity to work in the WSL. It has always been a dream of mine to manage a top club in England, and I am grateful for the chance to do so with Villa. I am excited to get started and to help the team achieve their goals.”
With Arroyo at the helm, Villa fans can expect an exciting brand of football and a team that is hungry for success. The future looks bright for the club under her leadership, and supporters will be eagerly anticipating what the new season will bring.
Stay tuned for more updates on Natalia Arroyo and Aston Villa Women as they embark on their WSL journey.

CBC’s new chief executive officer has suggested that Pierre Poilievre poses an “existential threat” to the public broadcaster.
Marie-Philippe Bouchard, who took over for Catherine Tait in early January, also said that despite backlash over bonuses given to executives in the past, she was unsure whether she would receive one herself.
During an interview with the ‘s Matt Galloway, Bouchard was asked about the Conservative leader’s repeated promise to defund the network, thereby doing away with all English services and leaving only some French services.
She noted that while it remains to be seen whether Poilievre gets elected and actually follows through on those plans, it was nonetheless worrying.
“It is to some extent an existential threat because it wouldn’t be the same corporation that we have today,” Bouchard said of the plan. “There’s a limit to how we can absorb budgetary change in the government money that is attributed to us to manage every year, and so yes, there are risks in many areas. We have to consider there’s a possibility something happens in that line, so what would be left depends on how it’s executed.”
She suggested cutting government funding would “cripple” both the English and French services, and create a void in the nation’s media landscape.
Bouchard called public media “an incredible tool” in the fight against misinformation and disinformation, especially for younger Canadians, emphasizing that she wants to “make sure that it exists for future generations as well.”
On the issue of bonuses, she acknowledged the controversy under Tait’s rule and noted that the results of an independent review requested by the CBC’s board of directors should be available in the coming weeks.
“I’ve just started this job,” Bouchard said, “so the issue of whether or not a bonus is available, or should be awarded, is not even an issue.”
The newly appointed boss of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has made a bold statement, calling Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre an “existential threat” to the public broadcaster. In a recent interview, the CBC boss expressed concerns about Poilievre’s stance on funding for the CBC and his past criticisms of the organization.Poilievre, who has been a vocal critic of the CBC in the past, has called for cuts to the broadcaster’s funding and has questioned its role in Canadian media. The new CBC boss’s comments suggest that he sees Poilievre’s views as a serious threat to the future of the public broadcaster.
It remains to be seen how this tension between the CBC and Poilievre will play out in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Mohamed Salah contract update: Liverpool boss Arne Slot on winger
Liverpool manager Arne Slot says forward Mohamed Salah is “wise enough to make the right decision” over his future.
The 32-year-old is out of contract in the summer and said in January this was his final season at Anfield as he and the club were “far away from any progress” over a new deal.
The Egypt forward has scored 23 goals this season to help the Reds to the top of the Premier League and the last 16 of the Champions League.
Salah has been regularly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and the country’s sports minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal has said he was “a big prize” and they “would love to have him”.
“Everybody wants him, including us,” said Slot. “We want him to extend of course as well – that is clear.
“I’m not surprised that Saudi want him but I wouldn’t be surprised if other countries want him as well.
“He’s old enough and wise enough, and has done so many smart things in his career, that he will make the right decision for himself and, hopefully, for us as well.”
Salah has 19 goals in the top flight this season, taking his overall tally to 176 and moving him up to seventh in the Premier League’s list of all-time top scorers.
Captain Virgil van Dijk and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract in the summer and Slot said he has spoken to the trio about their situations during regular conversations.
“Of course, I speak to these players,” said Slot, in his news conference before the Premier League leaders face Bournemouth away on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
“I speak to them, not every day like [sporting director] Richard [Hughes], but quite a lot and it would be ridiculous if in all these times I speak to them we’ve never spoken about the future. Of course, we do.
“As you probably also know, that’s not something I’m going to discuss with you.
“It’s not only with the three that are out of contract, you also talk about future things with the other players as well.
“It’s a non-stop process talking to your players but it’s also a non-stop process that I will not talk about that in public with you.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has provided an update on Mohamed Salah’s contract situation, stating that discussions are ongoing with the winger’s representatives.Speaking to reporters, Slot said, “We are in talks with Salah’s camp about a contract extension. Mohamed is a key player for us and we want to keep him at the club for many more years.”
Salah’s current contract with Liverpool is set to expire in 2023, leading to speculation about his future at the club. However, Slot remains confident that an agreement will be reached to secure the Egyptian’s long-term future at Anfield.
“We are optimistic that we can reach a positive outcome in the coming weeks. Mohamed is happy at Liverpool and we are working hard to ensure he remains a crucial part of our squad,” Slot added.
Fans will be eagerly awaiting news of Salah’s contract extension, as the 29-year-old continues to be a standout performer for Liverpool, with his goal-scoring exploits helping the team to success both domestically and in Europe.
