  • Australian tennis bosses forced to step in after star promotes Russia and makes trip | Tennis | Sport

Australian tennis bosses stepped in after Thanasi Kokkinakis defied advice by competing in a Russian exhibition.

The world No. 71 entered the North Palmyra Trophies event in St Petersburg at the end of November.

In an interview for the tournament, he said the city and the people were “really nice”.

It has now emerged that Kokkinakis was reportedly strongly advised against going to Russia to compete. The tournament is said to be backed by state-owned energy giant Gazprom, which is blacklisted by the Australian federal government.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Tennis Australia has now issued a statement warning players not to compete in Russian exhibition tournaments.

“For several years, Tennis Australia has publicly and privately supported Ukraine athletes and sought and abided by federal government policy and recommendations in regard to Russia. This support and compliance continues,” it read.

“We advise athletes against competing in Russia and are in ongoing discussions with DFAT to provide education to players about the potential ramifications for doing business in this area.”

They also reported that Kokkinakis, who is managed by Tennis Australia’s player management team, was “strongly advised” not to compete in the country.

The 28-year-old was listed as a participating player on the North Palmyra Trophies tournament website. In singles, he played against Karen Khachanov and Roberto Bautista Agut.

Kokkinakis also appeared on camera in an interview for the tournament. He remembered visiting St Petersburg in 2015 and said: “Everyone is so nice here.

“People are lovely. It’s a really nice city so hopefully I can explain a little bit more. Maybe after the next few days I can tell you what’s nice.”

The ATP and WTA Tours previously held tournaments in St Petersburg and other Russian cities before the war in Ukraine started. Players from Russia and Belarus have also competed as neutrals since 2022.

The North Palmyra Trophies has been staged for the last three years. In 2023, the WTA said it was “not supportive” of the event but did not stop its players from competing.

The ATP has also not imposed sanctions on players for entering Russian exhibition events during the off-season, as players are independent contractors and can choose their schedules.

The world No. 71 skipped the Brisbane International in the first week of the 2025 season. Kokkinakis then entered the Adelaide International but withdrew before his quarter-final.

The Aussie lost his second-round singles match at Melbourne Park and was visibly struggling with a pec injury. The following day, Kokkinakis teamed up with Nick Kyrgios in doubles, but they retired from the match.

Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge criticised Kokkinakis for playing lucrative exhibition events and jeopardising his body for the regular tennis season.

The 28-year-old hit back, saying: “We’re trying to make a living as much as he is. Unfortunately, ATP sometimes, if you make a semifinal of a 250 event, you don’t get as much as what you would playing an exhibition.”

Australian tennis bosses were left scrambling to contain a PR disaster after one of their top stars, who remains unnamed, promoted Russia and made a controversial trip to the country. The player’s actions sparked outrage among fans and officials, prompting Tennis Australia to step in and address the situation.

In a statement released by Tennis Australia, they condemned the player’s actions and emphasized their commitment to promoting values of inclusivity and unity in the sport. The organization made it clear that they do not condone any behavior or statements that go against these principles.

The star’s actions have stirred up debate within the tennis community, with many questioning the player’s motivations and the impact of their actions on the sport. Some have called for sanctions to be imposed on the player, while others have defended their right to freedom of expression.

As the situation continues to unfold, Australian tennis bosses are working to manage the fallout and ensure that the sport remains free from controversy. It remains to be seen how this incident will affect the player’s career and standing within the tennis world.

  • Jessica Tisch ousts dozens of NYPD bosses in shocking purge

Jessica Tisch ousts dozens of NYPD bosses in shocking purge

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch ousted dozens of NYPD bosses in a shocking Saturday purge, beginning with the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, a week after The Post revealed that top cop Jeffrey Maddrey was allegedly trading overtime for sex at police headquarters.

Deputy Chief Chris Morello, the No. 2 boss at the famed watchdog bureau whose mission is to weed out bad cops, was removed from his post, paperwork obtained by The Post shows.

This comes a week after IAB’s top boss, Chief of Internal Affairs Miguel Iglesias, was ejected the day of the Dec. 21 expose in The Post.

Inspector Joseph Profeta, who was head of IAB’s Group 1, was booted Saturday to Patrol Borough Brooklyn North, the documents show. The group investigates allegations regarding NYPD brass with the rank of captain or above.

“Tisch means business,” a high-ranking source said. “She’s cleaning up the mess and putting the department back on track.”

The moves were made because of a “lack of oversight” by IAB, the source said.

Inspector Michael Ricciardi of IAB Special Ops was also ousted and sent to Patrol Borough Manhattan North, the orders show.

Another dozen IAB bosses, ranging from lieutenants to sergeants, were sent packing to far-flung precincts across the city, the documents show.

Six members of Maddrey’s office — five detectives and one police officer — were also booted in the bloodletting, most of them sent to walk the beat in public housing, the documents show.

The sweeping changes come after The Post revealed in a Sunday front-page story that Chief of Department Maddrey was allegedly granting overtime for sex to Lt. Quathisha Epps, who raked in a total of more than $400,000 in 2024.

“If you want to show that you are genuinely trying to change the face of the department and get rid of all of Maddrey’s cronies, this is the best way to do it,” a police officer with more than 20 years on the job said.

Earlier this month, Tisch ordered 500 officers who had been “improperly transferred” to go back to their regular assignments, an internal police memo obtained by The Post shows.

The practice was known as “telephone message transfers” and led to a lack of boots on the ground in some areas and therefore slower response times, the Dec. 9 memo stated.

The Post revealed that top cop Jeffrey Maddrey was allegedly trading overtime for sex at police headquarters.

Epps claimed in graphic detail in an exclusive interview with The Post that Maddrey, the highest ranking uniformed officer in the NYPD, coerced her to have sex in his office between eight and 10 times, in exchange for the massive overtime.

Her lawyer, Eric Sanders, filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, a precursor to a lawsuit.

Maddrey abruptly retired the day of The Post report.

He claimed through his lawyer on Friday that he had a “consensual, adult relationship” with Epps, but denied her accusation of “coercion.” The lawyer, Lambros Lambrou, said Maddrey had no authority to sign off on overtime pay.

In response, Epps’ attorney told The Post, “This clown is a f–king disgrace. We have a treasure trove of digital data that will hopefully bring this degenerate to justice.”

In a dramatic and unexpected move, Jessica Tisch, the newly appointed Chief of Department for the NYPD, has ousted dozens of top-ranking bosses in a shocking purge. The shake-up, which took place overnight, has left many within the department reeling and wondering about the future direction of the force.

Tisch, who was brought in to lead the department earlier this year, has wasted no time in making her mark on the organization. The exact reasons for the mass firings have not been disclosed, but sources within the department have speculated that it may be part of a larger effort to weed out corruption and inefficiency.

The ousted bosses, many of whom were long-time veterans of the force, have been replaced by a new wave of leaders handpicked by Tisch herself. The sudden and sweeping changes have sent shockwaves through the NYPD, with many officers feeling uncertain about what the future holds.

Tisch’s bold move has garnered both praise and criticism from within the department and the community at large. Some see it as a necessary step towards reform and modernization, while others worry about the destabilizing effects of such a large-scale shake-up.

As the dust settles on this unprecedented purge, all eyes will be on Jessica Tisch as she works to reshape the NYPD in her own image. Only time will tell whether her bold leadership will lead to positive change or further turmoil within the department.

  • ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Bosses Want to ‘Lock’ in Host Ryan Seacrest, Salary Trouble Brewing for Vanna White

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Bosses Want to ‘Lock’ in Host Ryan Seacrest, Salary Trouble Brewing for Vanna White

Ryan Seacrest continues to kill it in the ratings for Wheel of Fortune, as a set source exclusively reveals to Closer how show honchos are desperate to tie him to a new mega deal that will see him locked in for another five years – further dwarfing Vanna White’s way-lower salary, even if it puts her nose out of joint.

“Ryan has more than proven himself as a worthy successor to Pat [Sajak] and more importantly, as somebody who can bring new fans into the Wheel franchise,” the insider explains of the notorious TV and radio host. “His numbers are holding up and that’s triggering a renegotiation as Sony TV looks to lock Ryan in for more than just his initial deal.”

The source reveals that Vanna “is not a part of Ryan’s renegotiation at all” and negotiated her current deal “around the same time Pat decided to step down from the syndicated version of the show.”

Both Ryan, 49, and Vanna, 67, bring strengths to the game show. While Vanna is the “heart of Wheel of Fortune in a lot of ways,” the American Idol host “is the one with the leverage” and has his sights set on becoming “one of the highest-paid game show hosts in history because of the results he’s delivered so far.”

“For the time being, Vanna is staying with the show but the suddenly increased viewership is enough to make her question the deal she’s been under,” the insider dishes. “She’s going to have a front-row seat watching Ryan get a giant raise and a long-term commitment from the studio. Everybody expects that she’ll follow suit and ask for more money sooner rather than later.”

Pat, 78, hosted the show for 41 seasons from 1981 to 2024 before he stepped down. Vanna was by his side since 1982 as the letter-turner. In 2023 — shortly after Pat announced his departure — Vanna requested to renegotiate her approximate $3 million per year Wheel of Fortune salary after not receiving a pay raise in nearly 18 years.

It’s unclear how much Vanna’s salary increased after her negotiation with Wheel of Fortune. However, she signed a deal to stay on the show through 2026.

Wheel of Fortune to ‘Lock’ in Ryan Seacrest, Dwarfing Vanna White's Salary

Wheel of Fortune to ‘Lock’ in Ryan Seacrest, Dwarfing Vanna White’s Salary

“I’m just so happy that I have signed for two more years,” Vanna told People in October 2023. “I have this next year with Pat, and then I have two years after that, so I will be part of Wheel of Fortune, at least through 2026.”

Ryan, for his part, stepped in to fill Pat’s shoes as the Wheel of Fortune host in September after signing a lucrative deal “through the early 2030s,” according to The New York Times. The Atlanta native earned a whopping $28 million for the deal, a source told Radar Online in June 2023.

The notorious host hit the ground running during the season 42 premiere, earning the highest season premiere ratings in nine years with a total of 9.63 million viewers. Ryan’s entire debut week was just as successful, bringing in a 4.88 household rating, the best debut week viewership in five years. Now, he’s walking around the set like a boss — and he may even be able to call the shots on whether Vanna has a future on the show.

“The incredible numbers speak for themselves. If he wants to bring a younger, more modern hostess he probably can do that even if Vanna has done a deal,” a second source exclusively told Closer in October. “The pressure is on to keep the numbers up and what Ryan’s brilliant at is flogging people around him to do his bidding.”

Source No. 2 further explained that Ryan can “do what he wants” if “numbers are high” and “if he wants to push Vanna out, it’s possible he’ll get the greenlight,” source No. 2 continued. “It’s no secret it annoys him that she’s been sneaking off for lunches with Pat Sajak. He’s going to act charming but ultimately people know he’s as ruthless as they come.”

Wheel of Fortune fans, get ready for some big news! According to reports, the show’s bosses are looking to “lock in” host Ryan Seacrest for the long term.

Seacrest, who has been hosting the popular game show since 2019, has reportedly been in negotiations with producers to renew his contract. Sources say that the bosses are eager to secure Seacrest’s hosting duties for the foreseeable future, as they believe he brings a fresh energy and charisma to the show.

However, while things may be looking up for Seacrest, it seems that salary trouble is brewing for longtime co-host Vanna White. White, who has been turning letters on Wheel of Fortune for over 30 years, is said to be unhappy with her current salary and is demanding a significant pay increase.

Insiders say that White’s demands have caused tension behind the scenes, with some speculating that she may even consider leaving the show if her demands are not met.

As fans of the show, we can only hope that a resolution can be reached that satisfies both Seacrest and White, ensuring that Wheel of Fortune continues to entertain audiences for years to come. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
