#Brazos #County #College #Station #close #government #offices #bad #weatherThursday brings another chance for storms to the Brazos Valley
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – After a stormy Christmas Eve, we will get a short reprieve for Christmas Day, before the atmosphere fires off some more storms on Thursday.
SETUP:
A warm and muggy airmass will linger over the Brazos Valley for the remainder of 2024, providing a conducive environment for active weather. A deep area of low pressure will slide across North Texas Thursday afternoon, helping to get storms up and going, as a cold front trails behind. While the threat for severe weather is present all across the Brazos Valley, a more elevated concern exists east of Highway 6.
Rain and rumbles are expected to impact the Brazos Valley on Thursday(kbtx) TIMING:
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will likely begin Thursday morning. The amount of rain we receive earlier in the day will be a key factor in the intensity of afternoon/evening storms. With that being said, as of Wednesday evening, model data is on board with increasing storms through the afternoon, before they exit east around dinnertime.
Thursday Storm Timeline – December 26(kbtx) IMPACTS:
Thunderstorm development requires three main ingredients: moisture, instability, and lift. All of which will exist across the Brazos Valley on Thursday. A fourth ingredient that is often associated with severe weather will also be present – shear. Strong low-level shear will support the production of damaging winds and hail, along with rotating supercells capable of generating tornadoes. All severe hazards will be possible. While this is not a widespread concern, but it is something we will monitor very closely.
