San Jose Sharks Return From the Holiday Break to Host the Vegas Golden Knights

After the holiday break, Team Teal returned to the ice against the Vegas Golden Knights. Christmas has given the league a needed break from the constant mayhem of the NHL, and the Sharks return to the SAP Center tonight against the gamblers from Sin City. Getting back in the win column would let the Sharks continue to build confidence in the first half of this back-to-back series. They’ll both be challenging games, but the Sharks can win them both.

Following the festive period, Team Teal will look for star center Macklin Celebrini to continue his rise and dominance in the Bay Area. There have been many conversations around the emerging Canadian star, and the Sharks know he’ll be a cornerstone of the organization for many years. If he can continue his development and strong play at the NHL level, the Sharks can continue to address other concerns and leave Celebrini alone for now.

William Eklund is still day-to-day, and we’re unsure of his status ahead of the clash with the Golden Knights. He’s another piece of the puzzle for the San Jose Sharks future. We know the skill level of the Swedish winger, but there is no denying that the Swede hasn’t been at his best to this point in the season. As the Sharks look for more from Eklund, he’ll be on the shelf looking to cope with his injury.

    Projected Lineups

    Vegas Golden Knights

Victor Olofsson – Jack Eichel – Mark Stone
Tomas Hertl – William Karlsson – Keegan Kolesar
Brett Howden – Tanner Laczynski – Pavel Dorofeyev
Tanner Pearson – Cole Schwindt – Alexander Holtz
    Brayden McNabb – Shea Theodore
    Noah Hanifin – Alex Pietrangelo
    Nicolas Hague – Zach Whitecloud
    Adin Hill
    Ilya Samsonov

    San Jose Sharks

Barclay Goodrow – Mikael Granlund – Tyler Toffoli
Fabian Zetterlund – Macklin Celebrini – Will Smith
Nikolai Kovalenko – Alex Wennberg – Luke Kunin
Carl Grundstrom – Nico Sturm – Ty Dellandrea
    Henry Thrun – Cody Ceci
    Mario Ferraro – Timothy Liljegren
    Shakir Mukhamadullin – Jan Rutta
    Alexandar Georgiev
    Yaroslav Askarov

    Puck Drop

The puck will drop from the Shark Tank at 7:30 p.m. as the Sharks welcome back Tomas Hertl. Hertl was dealt at the deadline last year for a lot of the package the Sharks used to acquire Yaroslav Askarov from the Nashville Predators. It’s always special when a former Shark comes back, especially when it’s someone who was as impactful for this organization as Hertl was.

The San Jose Sharks are back from the holiday break and ready to face off against the Vegas Golden Knights in an exciting matchup at the SAP Center. After a few days off to rest and recharge, the Sharks are looking to pick up where they left off and continue their strong performance in the Pacific Division.

The Sharks have been playing some solid hockey as of late, with key contributions from players like Logan Couture, Evander Kane, and Erik Karlsson. They currently sit near the top of the division standings and are looking to maintain their position with a win over the Golden Knights.

On the other side, the Vegas Golden Knights are also coming off a break and looking to make a statement against their division rivals. With players like Mark Stone, Max Pacioretty, and Robin Lehner leading the charge, the Golden Knights will be a tough opponent for the Sharks to contend with.

Both teams are hungry for a win and eager to kick off the second half of the season on a high note. It’s sure to be an intense and competitive game as the Sharks and Golden Knights battle it out on the ice. Be sure to tune in and cheer on your favorite team as they face off in this exciting matchup. Let’s go Sharks! #SJSharks #VGKvsSJS

    That’s Wild

The Minnesota Wild have returned from their holiday break. We get to come down from the highs of the holiday spirit and watch what should be an important hockey game between bitter rivals.

In Dallas, facing the Stars, the Wild will be playing their first game back since returning from the holiday break. And while they did manage to leave on a high note by beating the Blackhawks, it doesn’t erase the fact that before, this team was on a downward trajectory. And now, with perfect timing, they get to face their rival who are just sitting uber calm below them in the standings but ready to strike at any point. This could certainly be a first-round matchup come the spring and we might be feeling the heat.

  • Eric Dickerson doesn’t believe Saquon Barkley will break record

Eric Dickerson doesn’t believe Saquon Barkley will break record

The NFL single-season rushing record has stood for 40 years, far longer than Saquon Barkley has been on this planet.

But now, with two games to play, the Philadelphia Eagles running back is 268 yards from eclipsing the mark of Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, who set the league record of 2,105 with the Rams in 1984.

Barkley, 27, who signed with the Eagles last offseason after spending the first part of his career with the rival New York Giants, is also 162 yards from becoming the ninth player to run for 2,000 yards in a season.

The other seven are Adrian Peterson (2,097 with Minnesota in 2012), Jamal Lewis (2,066 with Baltimore in 2003), Barry Sanders (2,053 with Detroit in 1997), Derrick Henry (2027 with Tennessee in 2020), Terrell Davis (2,008 with Denver in 1998), Chris Johnson (2,006 with Tennessee in 2009) and O.J. Simpson (2,003 with Buffalo in 1973).

The Eagles finish the regular season with home games against the Dallas Cowboys and the Giants.

Dickerson spoke to The Times this week about Barkley, running backs in general, the Rams and the thought of his longstanding record going away:

How do you feel about the possibility of Barkley breaking your single-season rushing record?

I don’t think he’ll break it. But if he breaks it, he breaks it. Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not. I don’t pull no punches on that. But I’m not whining about it. He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football. That’s the way I look at it. If he’s fortunate to get over 2,000 yards and get the record, it’s a great record to have.

So the 17 games part doesn’t bother you, even though you set it with 16 games?

O.J. Simpson was my favorite player. He went over 2,000 yards in 14 games. It took me 15 games to get to 2,000. I had one extra game to play. Getting to 2,000 is an accomplishment in itself. I got close to that three other times.

Eric Dickerson, left, meets with his favorite player, O.J. Simpson, at a San Francisco hotel in 1984.

    (Paul Sakuma / Associated Press)

Do you look at it from the perspective that the record is eventually going to fall?

I’ve always said that the one that’s going to last the longest is me setting the rookie record with 1,808. Because you only get one shot at that. You’re only a rookie once.

What do you think of Barkley as a back?

I like him. But I tend to like big backs. He’s not a big back like I was. He’s elusive, he’s tough, he runs hard, he can catch the ball out of the backfield. I think he’s a great player.

I always felt like he’d never reach his potential when he was in New York. You could take Emmitt Smith and put him in Cleveland, and he’d have never been the Emmitt Smith we know now.

    So it’s location, location, location?

Yes. Even myself. If you’d have put me in Cincinnati on a bad team, I’d have never been that guy. Because these bad football teams with no blocking, I don’t care how great you are. If you don’t have the guys in front of you, you can’t do it.

And that’s why you go to those lengths to thank your blockers?

I saw what [San Francisco quarterback] Brock Purdy did with his offensive line, buying them those Tundras. I got a text from Jackie [Slater, Hall of Fame Rams tackle], “Hey, man, where’s my Tundra?” I told him I was making $175,000 at the time. I could afford about two Tundras and be broke.

Will you be tuned in to watch Barkley?

I don’t sit down and watch games, except the Rams, and I work for the team. But I’ll have no choice but to keep up with it because I get so many text messages. People blowing up my phone like, “Man, it’s not fair. He gets 17 games,” or, “We’re going to put a hex on him.”

Any thoughts on Rams running back Kyren Williams?

I like him as a back. He’s able to carry the ball 29, 28, 27 times. That takes a toll on you. I was able to do it, but there’s very few backs that are able to do that. He’s not a real big guy, so that says a lot about him as a player, and what Sean McVay thinks of him. I look at McVay and think he’s done a fantastic job of coaching this team.

Do you think McVay should be in the Coach of the Year conversation?

Of course he does. He probably won’t get it because they’re going to give it to a coach who’s 15-2 or 14-3. But McVay has a young team, a team that at one point was decimated by injuries. They lost [four of five] and weren’t looking good. And right now they’re in position to win the NFC West. What else does it take [to win Coach of the Year]?

The Eagles’ Saquon Barkley runs past Rams safety Quentin Lake in November. He ran for 255 yards against the Rams.

(Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times)

Back to Barkley, are you surprised the Giants let him go?

Let me tell you something. When you look at certain people who run these teams, some of these guys have as much sense as me being the president of the United States. That’s about how much they should be running a football team.

In my contract, when the Rams traded me to the Colts, did you know I couldn’t come back to the NFC for five years? They put that clause in there.

The Eagles finish the regular season against the Giants. If the record is up for grabs…

A real team would be like, “Oh no, you ain’t gonna get that record on us.” But how ironic would it be for him to break the record on them, the team that let him go. A true slap in the face.

Eric Dickerson, a Hall of Fame running back known for his record-breaking career, recently expressed doubts about New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley’s ability to break his single-season rushing record.

In an interview, Dickerson stated that while Barkley is a talented player with immense potential, he doesn’t believe the young running back has what it takes to surpass his record of 2,105 rushing yards in a single season.

Dickerson cited Barkley’s injury history and the Giants’ offensive struggles as potential obstacles in the way of breaking the record. Despite Barkley’s impressive rookie season and undeniable talent, Dickerson remains skeptical about his chances of achieving such a monumental feat.

Only time will tell if Barkley can prove Dickerson wrong and make a run at breaking the record, but for now, the legendary running back’s doubts serve as a reminder of the difficulty and rarity of achieving such a milestone in the NFL.

  • NFL legend Eric Dickerson doesn’t want Saquon Barkley to break his single-season rushing record

NFL legend Eric Dickerson doesn’t want Saquon Barkley to break his single-season rushing record

Saquon Barkley is on the cusp of NFL history. If the Philadelphia Eagles running back can get just 268 yards over the final two weeks of the season, he’ll break Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record, which has stood for 30 years.

Dickerson set the record in 1984 when he rushed for 2,105 yards while playing for the Los Angeles Rams and after three decades of holding it, it sounds like the Pro Football Hall of Famer prefers to hold it for a few more decades.

During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dickerson didn’t try to hide the fact that he doesn’t want Barkley to break the hallowed record.

“Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not,” Dickerson said. “I don’t pull no punches on that. But I’m not whining about it.”

With Barkely needing to average 134 yards per game over the final two weeks, Dickerson thinks his record will be safe for another year.

“I don’t think he’ll break it. But if he breaks it, he breaks it,” Dickerson said.

When Dickerson set the record in 1984, there were only 16 games on the regular-season schedule, but that was bumped up to 17 in 2021, something the Dickerson is definitely aware of.

“He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football,” Dickerson said. “That’s the way I look at it. If he’s fortunate to get over 2,000 yards and get the record, it’s a great record to have.”

Dickerson probably won’t complain too much about the fact that Barkley is getting 17 games to break the record and that’s because he got to take advantage of a similar situation when he broke O.J. Simpson’s then-record.

Simpson held the rushing record before Dickerson and he set the mark of 2,003 yards during a 14-game season in 1973. Simpson was the first player to cross the 2,000-yard mark, and since then, it’s happened just seven more times. In the 30 years since Dickerson set the record, Adrian Peterson, who rushed for 2,097 yards in 2012, is the only running back who has even come within 35 yards of topping Dickerson’s mark.

The 27-year-old Barkley needs just 162 yards to reach 2,000 and if he does that, he’ll become the second-oldest player to hit 2,000 yards, trailing only Barry Sanders, who rushed for 2,053 yards as a 29-year-old in 1997.

If Barkley doesn’t break the record this year, Dickerson might end up holding it for a few more seasons. With most NFL teams turning to a running back-by-committee approach, it’s going to be rare to see a player do what Barkley’s doing. As a matter of fact, this is the fourth season of the 17-game schedule and in that time, only two running backs have even rushed for more than 1,700 yards: Jonathan Taylor in 2021 (1,811) and Barkley this year (1,838 heading into Week 17).

In a recent interview, NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson expressed his desire for his single-season rushing record to remain intact. The record, set in 1984 with 2,105 yards, has stood for over three decades.

Dickerson admitted that he admires the talent and skill of current New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, but he hopes that Barkley falls short of breaking his record.

“I have a lot of respect for Saquon Barkley and what he can do on the field, but I worked hard for that record and I would like to see it stand for a little while longer,” Dickerson said.

Despite his desire to hold onto his record, Dickerson acknowledged that records are made to be broken and that Barkley has the potential to achieve great things in the NFL.

“I know Saquon is a special player and he has the ability to do great things in this league. If he does end up breaking my record, I will congratulate him and wish him the best,” Dickerson added.

It remains to be seen if Barkley will be able to surpass Dickerson’s impressive record, but one thing is for sure – the competition in the NFL is fierce and records are always at risk of being broken.

    ‘I don’t think he’ll break it’

Eight backs have passed the 2,000-yard barrier: Dickerson (2,105), Adrian Peterson (2,097), Jamal Lewis (2,066), Barry Sanders (2,053), Derrick Henry (2,027), Terrell Davis (2,008), Chris Johnson (2,006) and Simpson (2,003).

Dickerson noted that he’s not surprised that Barkley is gobbling up more yards after moving from New York to Philly, where the offensive line play is much better.

“I like him. But I tend to like big backs. He’s not a big back like I was,” Dickerson said of Barkley. “He’s elusive, he’s tough, he runs hard, he can catch the ball out of the backfield. I think he’s a great player. I always felt like he’d never reach his potential when he was in New York. You could take Emmitt Smith and put him in Cleveland, and he’d have never been the Emmitt Smith we know now.

The Eagles, who could be without Jalen Hurts (concussion) Sunday against Dallas, are in an interesting spot when it comes to Barkley chasing the record. Last week’s loss nearly locks them into the No. 2 seed in the NFC. Next Gen Stats gives them a 94% chance to be the No. 2 seed and just a 4% chance to be the No. 1 seed; still not NFC East champions, Philly also has a 1% chance to be either the sixth or seventh seed.

Given that they likely won’t move their seeding, the Eagles could rest many starters in Week 18, including Barkley, who leads the NFL in carries (314). That scenario could ensure Dickerson holds onto his record for another year.

    I don’t think he’ll break it

As much as everyone doubts his abilities, I have faith that he won’t break it. He may be clumsy and sometimes irresponsible, but deep down, I know he will handle it with care. So, despite the skepticism surrounding his capabilities, I choose to believe in him. Let’s see if my trust in him will pay off in the end. Stay tuned for the results!

  • Melissa McCarthy gets ‘SNL’ cast to break character in wild parking lot battle sketch

Melissa McCarthy gets ‘SNL’ cast to break character in wild parking lot battle sketch

“Saturday Night Live” brought back a fan favorite sketch, this time with a holiday twist.

Martin Short hosted the late night sketch comedy show on Dec. 21 alongside musical guest, Hozier. The episode featured the sketch “Parking Lot Altercation,” which served as a callback to when Quinta Brunson hosted in April 2023.

The “Abbott Elementary” star and creator appeared in a similar sketch called “Traffic Altercation,” wherein she and Mikey Day engaged in some animated and often inappropriate gesturing while they were stuck in a traffic jam on the highway.

This time, Short competed with Day for a parking lot spot at a mall on the afternoon of Christmas Eve.

At the beginning of their exchange, the men try to reasonably communicate their ownership over the spot, with Day insisting that the spot was his with some simple gesturing, while Short claimed that his blinker was on, as conveyed by his aggressive blinking.

Tensions escalated from there, with Day claiming that he reached the spot first, to which Short accused him of being blind. The sketch continued to take dark and inappropriate turns as their argument over the parking spot continued without resolution. At one point, Day’s daughter, portrayed by Chloe Fineman, got involved, albeit with some NSFW gestures.

Day accused Short of being a liar after sharing that he was handicapped due to his high blood pressure, using his hand to gesture his nose growing à la Pinocchio. Short responded by claiming he would never lie because he was a “super Christian” as represented by him doing his best Superman stance and then holding his arms out as if he were on the cross.

One of the many gestures used by Mikey Day to convey his message to Martin Short.

Eventually, Short said that if Day wouldn’t listen to him, then maybe he would listen to his wife, portrayed by Melissa McCarthy. Though Day initially didn’t see Short’s wife, McCarthy came in hot on the scene and started to bang on the passenger side window.

“Drive away right now or I will kill you, now,” she threatened the father-daughter duo. “And I’ll make your dumb daughter watch.”

After the threats intensified, McCarthy paused to take a sip of an iced coffee before promptly spitting it back out onto the window.

Day and Fineman could barely keep it together as McCarthy used her chest to wipe off the beverage from the window, pausing every few seconds to glare at them before pressing her chest against the window again. At one point, she even licked a line clean off the window so she could get a better look at the duo before creeping away.

That was the final straw in the argument as Day ultimately surrendered the spot to Short who seemed overjoyed by the win.

McCarthy wasn’t the only celebrity cameo during last night’s episode.

The show kicked-off with a star-studded cold open that saw Short being inducted into the Five-Timers Club.

The sketch featured several members of the club, including Tom Hanks, Paul Rudd, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Scarlett Johansson, Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, and John Mulaney.

Though not a member of the club, Jimmy Fallon presented Short with his honorary purple velvet jacket and Colin Jost tried to enter with his wife, Johansson, but she ditched him for the shindig and shut the door in his face.

Rudd appeared in several sketches throughout the night, including during the “Sábado Gigante Christmas Special” alongside Marcello Hernández and as himself during the “Christmas Airport Parade.” McCarthy played a gate agent in the sketch, while Hanks appeared not at himself but as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, a nod to the 2016 film “Sully.”

In a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, Melissa McCarthy managed to get the entire cast to break character in a wild parking lot battle sketch. The sketch started off innocently enough, with McCarthy playing a woman trying to find a parking spot in a crowded lot. But things quickly escalated as other cast members joined in, each vying for the coveted spot.

What started as a simple sketch turned into a chaotic and hilarious brawl, with McCarthy leading the charge. The cast couldn’t help but break character as they threw punches, pushed each other around, and even got into a full-on dance battle.

McCarthy’s infectious energy and comedic timing had the entire audience in stitches, and it was clear that everyone on set was having a blast. The sketch may have devolved into chaos, but it was a moment of pure comedy gold that will surely go down in SNL history.

Fans of Melissa McCarthy and Saturday Night Live can’t stop talking about this memorable sketch, and it’s no wonder why. McCarthy once again proved why she is one of the funniest and most talented comedians in the industry, and her ability to get the entire cast to break character in such a wild and hilarious way is a true testament to her comedic genius.

Eva Longoria Swapped Red For A Navy Blue Swimset On Her Christmas Break

Eva Longoria is beach-ready way to celebrate the holiday season

While the rest of the world spends their holiday season in sparkling gowns and cosy knits, Eva Longoria is doing things a bit differently and it’s the kind of difference we’re envious of. In the Hollywood actress’ latest post on Instagram, visible are snippets from her holiday break which she spent “out of office”. The pictures give a glimpse into her family get-together, her breakfast of avocado toast, sunset snaps from the poolside and more family time. However, it was her vacation look that stole the show. The photos showed Eva striding towards the pool wearing a navy blue string bikini and matching bottoms with tie-up straps on either side. Seemingly bare-faced, she left her wet hair loose, her feet bare as well and tucked a pair of sunglasses on the top of her head. Now that’s a beach-ready way to celebrate the holiday season.

Much like Eva, Hollywood actor Pedro Pascal too swapped December knits for board shorts when he spent his holiday break by the seaside. In pictures from Instagram, Pedro is seen bare-bodied with his toned torso and muscular arms on display. He wore a pair of red swim trunks and tinted gold-framed sunglasses while sipping from a tender coconut held in his hands.

For Eva Longoria and Pedro Pascal, holiday style has meant something else entirely during the Christmas 2024 season.

Q&A: Eric Dickerson on Saquon Barkley pursuing his record: ‘I don’t think he’ll break it’

Recently, former NFL running back Eric Dickerson sat down for a Q&A session and shared his thoughts on current New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley’s pursuit of his single-season rushing record. Dickerson set the record in 1984 with 2,105 rushing yards, a mark that has stood for over three decades.

When asked about Barkley’s chances of breaking his record, Dickerson was candid in his response. “I don’t think he’ll break it,” Dickerson said. “It’s a tough record to beat, and there are so many factors that come into play. Saquon is a talented player, no doubt about it, but it takes a lot of things to go right to have a season like that.”

Dickerson went on to explain that the current landscape of the NFL, with its focus on passing offenses and committee backfields, makes it even more challenging for a running back to reach the heights he did in his prime. “The game has changed since my playing days,” Dickerson said. “Teams are throwing the ball more, and running backs are sharing carries more often. It’s just a different era.”

Despite his doubts about Barkley’s chances of breaking his record, Dickerson expressed admiration for the young running back. “Saquon is a special talent, no question about it,” Dickerson said. “He’s got the speed, the power, the vision – all the tools you need to be successful. But breaking the record is no easy feat, and I’m not sure he’ll be able to do it.”

As Barkley continues his quest to etch his name in the record books, fans will be watching closely to see if he can defy the odds and surpass Dickerson’s impressive mark. Only time will tell if the young star can make history, but one thing is for sure – he’ll have to work hard to prove Dickerson wrong.
