Renee Zellweger and Ant Anstead Attend Bridget Jones Premiere in London
Renee Zellweger. Mike Marsland/WireImageRenée Zellweger’s beau, Ant Anstead, joined her at a party for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy in London.
But first, Zellweger, 55, hit the pink carpet on Wednesday, January 29, for her big movie premiere at the Odeon Luxe theater, wearing a show-stopping fuschia gown with a strapless neckline and long train. Curiously, she had two bandages wrapped around her ring finger — prompting speculation that she and Anstead, 45, might be engaged, and that perhaps she was covering up the evidence.
(Us Weekly has reached out to Zellweger’s rep for comment.)
The actress happily posed for photos with costar Leo Woodall, who wore an on-trend brown corduroy suit. Woodall, 28, plays a love interest for Zellweger’s iconic heroine in the fourth installment of the Bridget Jones film franchise.
Zellweger and Woodall also joined castmates Hugh Grant, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Isla Fisher and James Broadbent on the carpet for a group shot.
Following the premiere, the cast moved on to an afterparty held in London’s Brasserie Zedel. Anstead was there to support Zellweger, who was still wearing those bandages on her finger. The smiling pair were spotted leaving the event, per photos published Wednesday in The Daily Mail. Anstead dressed up for the occasion, sporting a dapper three-piece suit in a dark gray color.

Later that summer, they made their official debut as a couple at a gala in California.
In April 2023, the duo celebrated their second anniversary together. Anstead marked the milestone by sharing a series of photos of the two of them via Instagram. “Two years of magic x,” he captioned the post at the time.
That same month, a source exclusively told Us that Zellweger and Anstead were embracing a future together. “They both want to settle down and create a home together,” the insider shared. “Renée loves how romantic, open and honest he is. She does say that it took her a while to find love again, but it was well worth the wait. She’s still giddy in love. He literally swept her off her feet.”

(Anstead shares 5-year-old son Hudson with ex-wife Christina Haack, to whom he was married for nearly two years. He is also the father of two older children, Amelie, 21, and Archie, 18, with first wife Louise Storey.)
“Renée gets along really well with Ant’s children and they spend a lot of quality time together,” a source told Us in July 2023. “Despite being in the public eye, Renée and Ant love just hanging out at home with the kids, watching movies and making dinner together. They enjoy a very low-key lifestyle.”

Normally, we only spend about 90 minutes with the heroine of a rom-com. We watch as she meets the man (or, rarely, woman) of her dreams and falls in love, out of love and in again. Then we say goodbye, never to know what fate will befall her after that final kiss.
Not Bridget Jones.
Since first appearing in “Bridget Jones’s Diary” in 2001, as the deliriously chaotic Londoner, Renée Zellweger has persisted. We’ve cringed (but also secretly cheered) as she ended up in bed with the devilishly handsome cad Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant). We’ve watched her humiliate herself in front of Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), then find herself smitten with him, realizing he’s her one great love, even though he’s an insufferable snob. We’ve observed as Bridget and Mark have broken up and gotten back together many times over. She’s landed better jobs and given birth. And now, in the latest installment, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” (premiering Feb. 13 on Peacock), she’s a widow with two young children, trying to start again in her 50s.
The perseverance of Bridget Jones in popular culture undermines the idea that when the credits roll on a rom-com, the characters’ lives turn out perfectly, and while the sequels have varied in quality, that sense of real life is in itself refreshing. (Although, chances are it works out for Bridget at the end of every movie anyway.)
At the same time, having Bridget Jones in our lives all these years reveals a surprising amount about the way we talk about women. The character and specifically Zellweger’s performance have led directly to uncomfortable but sometimes revealing, conversations about body image and aging in the public eye. Bridget has been, unintentionally, a bellwether.
The beauty of Bridget Jones — a creation of the novelist Helen Fielding, who had a hand in all of the screenplays — has always been her messiness. Think of her in comparison with, say, Meg Ryan’s Sally, in “When Harry Met Sally…,” perhaps the Platonic ideal of a rom-com heroine. While Sally can be a tad overbearing and unlucky in love, she is exacting and neat, almost to a fault. She always looks perfect. She alphabetizes her videotapes. Bridget, on the other hand, is unruly. She drinks too much and smokes like a chimney. (The number of cigarettes she puffs in the early movies is downright shocking in 2025.) Her apartment is a disaster, clothes strewn about. And, yes, she weighs too much — or at least she thinks she does.
To talk about Bridget Jones in the zeitgeist is to talk about her weight. In both “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” (2004), she is not tiny, although calling her overweight would be an overstatement even though plenty do. At the outset of “Diary” she resolves to lose 20 pounds, despite weighing in at only 136. In “Edge of Reason,” she hides from her new boyfriend, Mark, after they have made things official, changing under a sheet, concerned about how he might react to her in the light. He tells her he loves her “wobbly bits.”
Zellweger famously gained weight to play Bridget, a fact that was more discussed than her mastery of a British accent. Though she never revealed exactly how much, the news media spiraled over the idea that this American movie star would deign to eat pizza to bulk up. When interviewers harped on how she put on the pounds, Zellweger would deflect. Speaking with The Guardian, she said, “I understand the intrigue. It sounds like it would be such a liberating experience, but I hope that that won’t be what becomes most important.”
A year after the film’s release, Kate Betts, the former editor of Harper’s Bazaar, issued a mea culpa. Writing in The New York Times, she explained that she had pulled a cover of Zellweger tied to “Bridget Jones’s Diary” because the actress looked “too fat.” Betts admitted that “fashion’s antifat bias and obsession with thinness, so ingrained among those who make careers in the business, is looking increasingly like a blind spot.” And yet the damage had been done.
Since 2001, society has gone through innumerable cycles of quasi-invasive conversations about how women, famous and otherwise, should look. Whereas “body positivity” might have been the buzzword 10 years ago, today slimmed-down celebrities face questions about whether they have used Ozempic or a similar drug.
It makes rewatching the early Bridget Jones movies a strange experience. Seeing her body onscreen is still almost revolutionary given how thinness remains the norm in Hollywood. But she’s brutally self-critical, even though handsome men find her sexy enough to get into fistfights over her. It hurts to watch her self-loathing, but there’s also an honesty to it: How often are we our own worst enemies? The frothiness of the plots means this question isn’t examined, but it nags at you.
When Bridget returned for “Bridget Jones’s Baby” in 2016, more than a decade after “The Edge of Reason,” the fracas was not over her size; that was also sidelined as an issue for the character. Instead, it was over her face. Upon the release of the trailer, Variety published a column speculating on whether Zellweger had “work” done, and charging that she “doesn’t look like Bridget Jones.”
Zellweger, in turn, responded with an essay in HuffPost. “Not that it’s anyone’s business, but I did not make a decision to alter my face and have surgery on my eyes,” she wrote. “This fact is of no true import to anyone at all, but that the possibility alone was discussed among respected journalists and became a public conversation is a disconcerting illustration of news/entertainment confusion and society’s fixation on physicality.”
Bridget Jones, however, is someone who has been shaped by that fixation. You can see that in the way she berates herself because she does not match an unrealistic, media-set standard. By the third film in the franchise, age is a factor. Bridget looks different because more than 10 years have passed since we last saw her. She has crow’s feet and her pregnancy is considered “geriatric.” She may not know who the father of her child is, at least at first, because she’s still the same old chaotic Bridget, but she is older, making her a pioneer, in a way, too. Only now, with films like “The Substance,” has culture caught up to the conversations “Bridget Jones’s Baby” provoked about aging.
In “Mad About the Boy,” Bridget’s new challenge is the death of Mark Darcy, a grim reminder of the passage of time and our fragile mortality. But Bridget soldiers on, once again with an on-trend love interest, a younger man played by Leo Woodall.
Bridget’s adventures have long been silly and fantastical, but at their heart is just a woman, trying to figure out her life. Her journey might have more hunky men and goofy scenarios than the ones we encounter as audience members, but we can easily recognize her anxieties and how they mirror ours as we age. Every time she gets a happy ending, it’s qualified by a sequel that throws another obstacle in her path. She’s been scrutinized and picked apart — onscreen and off — but always finds her way out of the muck. And that’s why it’s been a blessing to have her around for all these years.
After a long wait, fans of the beloved Bridget Jones series can rejoice as Renée Zellweger is set to reprise her role as the lovable and relatable Bridget Jones in the upcoming film, ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’.The film, based on the bestselling novel by Helen Fielding, follows Bridget as she navigates the ups and downs of life as a single mother in her 50s. With a new love interest on the horizon and plenty of hilarious mishaps along the way, fans can expect the same charm and wit that made the original films so beloved.
Zellweger’s return to the role is sure to delight fans who have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Bridget’s story. With her impeccable comedic timing and heartfelt portrayal of the character, Zellweger is sure to bring Bridget to life once again in this highly anticipated sequel.

“Let me live in denial for a little longer,” Zellweger — who has played the role of Bridget Jones in all four movies — said, telling the outlet “fingers crossed” that Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy wasn’t the franchise’s final film.
Based on the novels written by Helen Fielding, the new movie follows Bridget as a widow and a single mother as she takes on dating apps. She then gets “pursued by a dreamy and enthusiastic younger man,” a synopsis reads.
“Now juggling work, home and romance, Bridget grapples with the judgment of the perfect mums at school, worries about Billy as he struggles with the absence of his father, and engages in a series of awkward interactions with her son’s rational-to-a-fault science teacher,” the synopsis adds.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy streams exclusively on Peacock on Feb. 13, 2025.

Renee Zellweger stars in the fourth instalment in the franchise This article contains spoilers about Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has been billed as the fourth and final film in the series – but its star Renée Zellweger says she has her “fingers crossed” that is not the case.
Zellweger has played our favourite hapless heroine for more than 20 years and seems as attached to her as ever, calling the character an “old friend”.
Speaking at the film’s premiere in London’s Leicester Square on Wednesday evening, the actress says she is “in denial” and “it hasn’t sunk in yet” that the franchise may be coming to a close.
“Let me live in denial for a little longer”, she laughs.
Yet, while there are no plans to take the Bridget Jones story any further, author Helen Fielding is not completely ruling out the prospect.
The new film sees Bridget living as a widow, becoming a single mother and tackling modern dating.
The story is partially inspired by Fielding’s own loss. Her husband, Kevin Curran, died in 2016.
Zellweger says the film is a “beautiful story and really the most personal for Helen. She is sharing about her own experiences about loss, grief and finding new happiness, it’s a pretty special one”.
She adds she has always felt “really, really lucky to get the part” and “was just trying not to get fired”.
Watch: Touching pink carpet reunion for Bridget Jones’ stars It is obvious there is a real love between the cast too as Zellweger and her on screen father, Jim Broadbent, embrace on the pink carpet.
Hugh Grant was also at the premiere. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy sees the return of Grant’s roguish anti-hero, Daniel Cleaver.
He was declared dead at the start of the last film, Bridget Jones’s Baby – only to be found alive just before the final credits.
We also see a slightly softer side of this notorious womaniser and cad in the new film.
New love interests
Getty Images
Leo Woodall (left) and Chiwetel Ejiofor play Bridget’s love interests in the film But Bridget’s love interests in the film are brand new characters.
One Day’s Leo Woodall plays her Tinder match who at 29 is (cough) a little younger than 51 year old Bridget.
Bafta winner Chiwetel Ejiofor plays a buttoned-up teacher Bridget encounters on the school run and a rain-soaked class trip.
Woodall says although he felt “a lot of pressure” going into the film he knew it was going to be “relatively easy” as soon as he met Zellweger as she was “joyous and generous and kind and good and obviously a wonderful actor”.
On whether he has had any clumsy Bridget Jones moments himself, Woodhall says “he falls over quite a lot”.
Ejiofor, who is mainly known for grittier roles in films like 12 Years a Slave and American Gangster says the film is a “different speed” to his usual projects.
But adds it was lovely to film: “Even the set is so warm, everyone is so excited about telling the story”.
Gen Z appeal
Getty Images
Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant pose for the cameras at the premiere For Fielding the success of Bridget Jones lies in its “emotionally honesty”.
“When I first wrote Bridget it was an anonymous column in the Independent which I thought would be stopped after six weeks for being too silly,” she says.
“That freed me up to be honest in a way I could never have been otherwise and I think that’s what people related to.
“I thought I was the only person who felt like that and it turns out for a lot of people there is a huge gap between how you feel you are supposed to be and how you really are.”
Bridget was a character created in the 1990s and Fielding says she is “really touched” that Gen Z have also embraced her.
“When I do a signing half the audience are Gen Z’s. They’re the first generation who have lived through a world crisis for ages. They’re very similar to Bridget in their emotional fragility, their ability to share and cry on TikTok.
“And they have their same little rituals, Bridget has ice cream and vodka and they have sleep routines and things like that.
“I think they’re a really interesting and lovely generation. I can’t wait until they start writing more novels.”
Inspired by Keir Starmer?

Author Helen Fielding said she is “really touched” a new generation has taken to the Bridget Jones story It has long been rumoured that the book’s character of human rights barrister Mark Darcy – played by Colin Firth in the previous Bridget Jones films – was based on barrister turned prime minister Sir Keir Starmer.
So is there any truth in this?
“All I’ll say about that is that if you look at early pictures of Colin in the film and pictures of Keir Starmer in a wig, they’re awfully similar,” Fielding says with a smile.
So we may never know that for sure, but could there be another Bridget Jones book and film?
“Never say never,” Fielding adds.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is released in UK cinemas on Valentine’s Day.
Fingers crossed this is not the end of Bridget JonesFans of the beloved character Bridget Jones are holding their breath as rumors swirl about the possible end of the iconic series. With author Helen Fielding hinting at a possible conclusion to Bridget’s story, fans are anxiously waiting to see what happens next.
Will Bridget finally find true love? Will she overcome her never-ending struggles with self-doubt and insecurity? Will she continue to entertain us with her hilarious mishaps and adventures?
As we wait for answers, let’s keep our fingers crossed that this is not the end of Bridget Jones. After all, we can’t imagine a world without our favorite singleton and her chaotic yet endearing life. Here’s hoping that Bridget’s story is far from over.

Bridget Fonda looked much thinner than she has in recent years when she was spotted out in the Encino Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles on Monday.
The actress, who is best known for her films Single White Female and Jackie Brown, was celebrating her 61st birthday with a female friend as they went on a power walk through a suburban neighborhood.
Bridget showed off a smaller waistline and thinner arms in the rare public sighting on a sun-drenched winter day.
The niece of Jane Fonda wore a pale gray top and black slacks with black sneakers but later added a colorful top. Her light silver hair was worn up in a casual updo as she appeared to have little makeup on while sporting thin black sunglasses.
She also was not wearing her wedding rings from her husband, film composter Danny Elfman.
Fonda’s appearance comes after Hollywood has been swept up in an Ozempic craze where stars who were usually full figured were suddenly looked slender.
Amy Schumer, Rebel Wilson, Tracy Morgan and James Corden have all admitted to using Ozempic in the past; some of them have stopped.

In past few years Fonda has not been seen much in public.
During her heyday in the 1990s, she was a blonde bombshell with a knockout figure.
In movies, she often showed off her fit physique in lingerie or bathing suits, or skintight dresses with high heels.
In one film, Single White Female, she even played the perfect woman who had both a beautiful face and sizzling body. Her roommate envied her so much she terrorized her.
In Singles, Bridget showed off her sculpted form when playing the love interest of Matt Dillon’s character.
She has been retired from acting for over 20 years and has opted for a quieter lifestyle.

There has been some bad news for Danny.
In July Elfman was hit with a defamation lawsuit by a woman who previously accused him of serving her a martini glass filled with semen.
Nomi Abadi, a 36-year-old composer, had previously sued Elfman for breach of contract after alleging that he had failed to pay her a portion of a settlement they had previously agreed to.
In a 2023 Rolling Stone piece, Abadi made the accusation involving the martini glass, which elicited a vigorous denial from Elfman.
The two walked uphill in a nice looking neighborhood with large mailboxes
In this image, Bridget has on her top with a pocketed cardigan tied around her waist
But now Abadi is taking Elfman to court over his response to her claims with a new defamation lawsuit. She is suing the Oingo Boingo singer and songwriter — who was also been sued by a second woman for alleged sexual abuse — for denying her account, which she claims is tantamount to calling her a liar, according to the lawsuit obtained by TMZ.
DailyMail.com reached out to representatives for Elfman and Abadi but never heard back.
In Abadi’s defamation suit, which was filed by the attorney Eric M. George, she reiterated her claims that Elfman gave her a martini glass filled with semen.
The two seemed to be in deep conversation as they got their steps in
She still had her good looks as she looked up; her glasses had pale gray lenses and a see-through frame

So far, Bridget has not addressed her changing figure with the press, nor should she have to as she is retired
Bridget has been married to film composer Danny Elfman since 2003. Lately she has not been wearing her wedding rings
She says she was invited to Elfman’s studio in August of 2016, when she was allegedly presented with the martini glass bearing a whitish substance.
Abadi describes how she ‘sat in silence, terrified, gagging from the putrid smell coming from … semen ejaculate.’
She also claims that Elfman made a comment about former President Donald Trump, who was only a candidate at the time.
It’s unclear what sentiment the Batman composer expressed, but Abadi says she responded by sharing her support for Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Bernie Sanders.

Elfman allegedly responded, ‘We can’t have a Jew running our country,’ though it’s unclear if Abadi took his words to be a tasteless joke or a sincere statement.
The Rolling Stone report cited a police report filed by Abadi in November 2017, in which she claimed that Elfman had exposed his genitals and masturbated in her presence — without her consent — multiple times.
In the wake of the accusations, Elfman agreed to a 2018 settlement and nondisclosure agreement with Abadi.
But she sued the musician in 2023 for breach of contract for allegedly failing to pay all of the agreed-upon $830,000.
Abadi claimed he had failed to make two payments, one due in 2019 and one in 2021, which totaled $85,000.
‘How do I respond to accusations so serious that being innocent is not a valid defense? It is excruciating to consider that a 50-year career may be destroyed in one news cycle as a result of vicious and wholly false allegations about sexual misconduct,’ began Elfman’s florid denial.
‘Ms. Abadi’s allegations are simply not true,’ he continued.
He also claimed Abadi had described him as her ‘childhood crush’ and that she planned to ‘break up’ his marriage to Bridget, who he’s been married to since 2003.
Elfman claimed to have ‘done nothing indecent or wrong,’ and he said he had ‘voluminous evidence that these accusations are false.’
A representative for Elfman later said that his ‘limited interactions’ with Abadi ‘did not involve sexual contact’ and ‘were fully consensual.’
Film compose Elfman, 71, is being sued by the composer and pianist Nomi Abadi for defamation, TMZ reported. She had previously sued him for failing to pay all of an $830,000 settlement they had agreed upon
Elfman’s representatives also claimed that the martini glass was not filled with semen, but instead was filled with the moisturizing cream Cetaphil.
A photo of the glass with a white substance was emailed to Abadi before her meeting with Elfman in which he allegedly presented it to her in person.
The representative said the martini glass and its contents were ‘designed to be a stupid photo prop’ for a photoshoot, and they said ‘Ms. Abadi knew that.’
Now Abadi is suing Elfman for defamation and requesting unreported damages over his denials.
She says her statements to Rolling Stone were truthful, and she says Elfman’s statements, which she characterized as lies, had damaged her career as a composer and performer and had led her to suffer health problems.
