Hurzeler praises two key Brighton defenders who have made a “big impact” this season
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler believes defenders Joel Veltman and Lewis Dunk have brought much-needed strength to the club’s backline as they return to the pitch.
The Seagulls nullified the Brentford attack last week and kept a rare clean sheet in what was an intense 0-0 draw. Hurzeler praised both Dunk and Veltman for their efforts and hopes their performances continue this season.

“I think both have a big impact on our game. They know how to defend, they know how to control the game. They find a good balance.
“Joel was now back for the last two games and I think we didn’t give away so many chances. I don’t remember one big chance for Brentford.
“Also, against West Ham there were no big, big chances for them so in general we defend quite good.”
Brighton face an Aston Villa side tonight who are without Jhon Duran due to suspension which the German head coach shrugged off.
“They are all class players so they all have the quality to score. They are all very good in one-against-one duels, very good in protecting the ball.
“Very good in creating chances so it won’t be easy to defend them.
“But, when we defend like we did (on Friday), with this intensity, this sharpness, then I am sure we might have a chance there.”
Brighton manager Graham Hurzeler praises two key defenders who have made a “big impact” this seasonBrighton manager Graham Hurzeler has heaped praise on two key defenders who have made a significant impact for the team this season. The Seagulls have been solid at the back, thanks in large part to the performances of Lewis Dunk and Ben White.
Dunk, who has been a stalwart for the club for many years, has continued to impress with his leadership and defensive abilities. His partnership with White has been crucial to Brighton’s success this season, with the duo forming a formidable partnership at the heart of the defense.
Hurzeler spoke highly of the pair, stating, “Lewis and Ben have been outstanding for us this season. They have been rock-solid at the back and have played a huge role in our defensive stability. Their composure on the ball and ability to read the game have been key to our success.”
The Brighton boss went on to praise Dunk’s leadership qualities, saying, “Lewis is not only a fantastic defender, but he is also a great leader on and off the pitch. His experience and presence have been invaluable to the team.”
As for White, who is on loan from Arsenal, Hurzeler had nothing but praise for the young defender. “Ben has been a revelation for us this season. He has shown maturity beyond his years and has adapted seamlessly to the Premier League. His composure on the ball and ability to play out from the back have been crucial to our style of play.”
With Dunk and White in top form, Brighton will be hoping to continue their strong defensive performances as they push for a top-half finish in the Premier League.

Aston Villa vs Brighton predictions: Chris Sutton on Premier League game
Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against a variety of guests.
This week, he takes on musician Emma-Jean Thackray, who is a Leeds fan.
Sutton’s prediction: 2-1
Both of these teams have been quite patchy in recent weeks, which makes them really hard to predict.
Brighton have gone six games without a win and, although they have only lost two of those, they seem to have lost a bit of the spark they had at the start of the season.
That makes me favour Villa more here, especially because they are at home – five of their six league defeats this season have come on the road.
Jhon Duran’s suspension is a blow for Unai Emery’s side but, unlike a lot of people, I actually think his red card against Newcastle was the right decision.
It is a real sickener for Emery, though. I know he was able to rotate Duran and Ollie Watkins up front, but recently Duran had been starting and scored in four straight games. He seemed to have that jersey nailed down, but when he comes back from his three-game ban, he will have to start again.
In the meantime it is down to Watkins to get Villa some goals. I am backing him to score here and to help them get the three points.
Emma-Jean’s prediction: 2-2
Villa are a similar sort of club to Leeds – with a really great history and similar size of fanbase. We had several seasons recently of being right up against each other in the Championship and closely matched in the Premier League too, then all of a sudden Villa have taken off. I am going for a draw.
Aston Villa vs Brighton Predictions: Chris Sutton on Premier League GameFormer Premier League striker and current football pundit Chris Sutton has weighed in on the upcoming match between Aston Villa and Brighton. Sutton, known for his insightful analysis and bold predictions, has shared his thoughts on how the game may unfold.
Sutton believes that Aston Villa, who have been in fine form recently, will have the edge in this match. The Villains have been playing some impressive football under manager Dean Smith, and their attacking prowess could prove to be too much for Brighton to handle.
However, Sutton also acknowledges that Brighton are a well-organized team who are difficult to break down. The Seagulls have proven themselves to be tough opponents for many top teams in the league, and they will be looking to secure a positive result against Villa.
In terms of a final scoreline, Sutton predicts that Aston Villa will come out on top with a 2-1 victory. He expects a closely contested match with both teams giving their all, but ultimately sees Villa’s firepower making the difference.
It will be interesting to see if Sutton’s predictions come to fruition when Aston Villa and Brighton face off in this crucial Premier League clash. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting and unpredictable game.

Brighton & Hove Albion will face off against Brentford in an exciting Premier League matchup. Both teams have been in good form recently, making this a difficult game to predict. Here are some betting tips and predictions for this clash:1. Brighton & Hove Albion have been solid defensively this season, conceding just 10 goals in their last 10 games. This could make it tough for Brentford to break them down, so a bet on under 2.5 goals could be a good option.
2. Brentford have been in good form recently, winning three of their last five games. They have also been scoring goals consistently, so a bet on both teams to score could be a good choice.
3. Brighton & Hove Albion have been strong at home this season, winning four of their last five games at the Amex Stadium. They will be looking to continue this good form against Brentford, so a bet on a home win could be a smart bet.
Overall, this game could go either way, but Brighton & Hove Albion’s home advantage could give them the edge. A bet on a home win or both teams to score could be good options for this matchup. Good luck!

Brighton vs Brentford: Preview, predictions and lineups
The first of two Friday night Premier League fixtures arrives at the Amex as Brighton face Brentford down on the south coast.
After starting the season superbly, Fabian Hurzeler’s Seagulls have drifted into mid-table obscurity having endured a pretty wretched run of form. Brighton are winless in five and without a victory on home soil since they came from behind to down the champions 2-1 on 9 November.
Still, the tightly packed nature of a chaotic division means the Seagulls are just a couple of triumphs on the bounce away from the table making for much prettier reading.
Brentford have struggled on their travels this term, but Thomas Frank’s outfit have nonetheless exceeded expectations in the aftermath of Ivan Toney’s exit. They were subject to their first home defeat of the season at the weekend and have slipped to 12th in the table, but many were concerned in pre-season that the west Londoners would flirt with the relegation conversation.
The Bees must start picking up results on the road, however.
Here’s 90min’s preview of Friday’s Premier League duel.

Mats Wieffer scored his first Brighton goal at the weekend / Mike Hewitt/GettyImages Hurzeler hopes to have Mats Wieffer available for Brentford’s visit after the Dutchman limped off having just scored his first Brighton goal on Saturday. The Dutchman, if fit, will partner the excellent Carlos Baleba in the middle of the park.
Yankuba Minteh should come in for Brajan Gruda down the right, and there could be recalls to the squad for Adam Webster and Solly March. Danny Welbeck, however, misses out again due to an ankle injury.
The Seagulls are also without Jack Hinshelwood, James Milner and Ferdi Kadioglu for the foreseeable.
Brighton predicted lineup vs Brentford (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; Baleba, Wieffer; Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma; Ferguson.
Mads Roerslev was forced off against Nottingham Forest with a head injury / Ryan Pierse/GettyImages Brentford’s injury list is extensive and their issues only worsened at the weekend after Mads Roerslev was forced off with a head injury having been brought on in the second half. He likely won’t play a part on Friday.
The Bees will soon hope to have summer signing Igor Thiago available after a lengthy absence, but the striker is currently battling an illness and may not feature until the new year. Ethan Pinnock, Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Rico Henry and Sepp van den Berg are also likely to return next month.
Aaron Hickey is a longer-term absentee due to a hamstring injury.
Brentford predicted lineup vs Brighton (4-3-3): Flekken; Ajer, Collins, Mee, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Janelt, Damsgaard; Mbeumo, Wissa, Carvalho.
Saturday’s defeat felt like a sucker punch for Brentford after Frank rested key players for their Carabao Cup quarter-final loss at Newcastle. What was it all for?
Friday’s visitors are in a tough moment, and although Brighton rank among the poorest performing Premier League teams in December, you get the feeling that they’re edging closer towards victory. They were mightily unfortunate not to claim all three points at West Ham on Saturday.
While Brentford were once the sort of team capable of stymying Brighton’s slick possession play and wreaking havoc on the counter, their poor defensive performance this season suggests the hosts should have plenty of joy on Friday.
This has the makings of a get-right game for Hurzeler’s men, with the visitors’ losing run extending to four games in all competitions.
Prediction: Brighton 3-1 Brentford
