  • Polar vortex brings dangerous cold temperatures to majority of US

A blast of Arctic air from Canada has brought the season’s coldest weather to most of the United States. The system, known as a polar vortex, is forecast to bring subzero temperatures to the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and deep into the South.

And it looks as we may get more arctic blasts in the coming years.

Outbreaks from the Arctic will persist throughout the Northern Hemisphere in the upcoming decades, even as the region is warming more quickly than the rest of the world, according to a study published in Environmental Research: Climate.

Strong wind gusts are expected from Montana to Nebraska this week, according to Accuweather. The freezing temperatures will move eastward, reaching major cities like Philadelphia, where daytime highs will reach only the upper teens.

The recent polar vortex has brought dangerously cold temperatures to the majority of the US, with many regions experiencing record-breaking lows. From the Midwest to the East Coast, millions of people are facing frigid conditions that pose a serious threat to their health and safety.

As the polar vortex grips the nation, experts are urging residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the extreme cold. This includes staying indoors as much as possible, dressing in layers, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the elements. Homeless shelters are working overtime to provide warmth and shelter to those in need, while emergency responders are on high alert for cases of hypothermia and frostbite.

The polar vortex serves as a stark reminder of the power of nature and the importance of being prepared for extreme weather events. As we hunker down and weather the storm, let’s remember to check on our neighbors, especially the elderly and vulnerable, and lend a helping hand whenever possible.

Stay safe and stay warm, everyone. And remember, this too shall pass. #PolarVortex #ExtremeCold #StaySafe

  • Polar vortex brings dangerously cold temps to MN

A KARE 11 Weather Impact Alert will continue Tuesday with wind chills potentially dropping to -45.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — Our entire region is under an Extreme Cold Weather Warning until 12 p.m. Tuesday; wind chills could fall as low as -45 degrees.

This Arctic blast is thanks to a polar vortex.

“We live on this big blue marble called Earth and at the top and the bottom you have spinning air — a vortex — and that air at the top and bottom, North and South Pole, is very cold. So that’s your polar vortex. That’s what the polar vortex is,” explained KARE 11 meteorologist Jamie Kagol.

So what does that have to do with Minnesota?

“That polar vortex when it’s spinning, and it’s spinning fast like a top, it’s very stable, very steady. It’s not moving anywhere. But if it weakens and it will weaken… everything weakens and strengthens. As it weakens, it can wobble. When it wobbles, just like that top, it can slide off the pole… slide off the North Pole and it moves into the mid-latitudes, the Great Lakes region, the Upper Midwest. It can move all the way down… Mid-Atlantic, people in Florida can feel it, people in Texas can feel it,” Kagol said.

RELATED: WEATHER: Arctic air grips region

This polar vortex prompted then President-elect Donald Trump to announce his inauguration ceremony would be moving indoors to the Capitol Rotunda.

“We are seeing temperatures near freezing along the Gulf Coast, along the Atlantic Coast. So they are really feeling it. Whereas, for us, we say it’s just cold or it’s colder. But down there, they’re not equipped as well as we are to handle weather like this,” Kagol said.

As for Minnesota, Kagol went on to say, “I was looking at the coldest temperatures of the winter, the past five years or so, and we’re kind of in the norm right now.”

According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, an arctic blast in January 2014 led to a -63 degree wind chill reading at Grand Marais Airport on Jan. 6. That same day, the lowest wind chill temperature in the Twin Cities was -48 degrees.

Five years later, at the end of January 2019, the state experienced some of the lowest air temperatures since 1996 and lowest wind chills since the ’80s, according to the DNR.

2021‘s polar vortex was known more for its length and lateness in the season, lasting for at least a dozen days in February.

Kagol said Tuesday will start out bitter cold but then we will start to recover from this arctic plunge in temperatures. You can read the weather team’s full forecast, here

“This winter should include more polar vortices. So this is just kind of the worst we’ve had so far and I think we’re going to see more repeat itself as we go through February. Even in the short range models are showing a number of these clippers that come in from the Northwest. They’re going to pull that Arctic air south. They’re going to pull that polar air south,” Kagol said. “So this has been the worst so far, in terms of your low temperatures. We’ve seen teens below 0. We have not seen that yet. In fact, it’s been a few years since we’ve seen teens below 0 but I think this is just the first one and I think we’ll find a number of them coming up.”

The Polar Vortex has descended upon Minnesota, bringing with it dangerously cold temperatures that are causing havoc across the state. With wind chills dipping well below zero, residents are being urged to take precautions to stay safe and warm during this frigid weather.

The extreme cold has led to school closures, flight cancellations, and icy road conditions that are making travel treacherous. Authorities are warning people to limit their time outdoors, dress in layers, and avoid prolonged exposure to the bitter cold.

It’s important to remember to check on elderly neighbors, bring pets indoors, and make sure your vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies in case of a breakdown. The Polar Vortex may be relentless, but by taking precautions and staying vigilant, we can weather this cold snap together. Stay safe, Minnesota!

    January 18th, 2025

PITTSBURGH — Andrew McCutchen can sense some frustration in the fan base. Fans won’t dare get in the franchise icon’s face to voice that irritation, but he’s been around long enough to have his finger on Pittsburgh’s pulse and know what’s up.

There was optimism and excitement in the air at PiratesFest on Saturday at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, but also some lingering frustration from 2024. It was evident at the “Ask Pirates Management” session, where fans asked team president Travis Williams, general manager Ben Cherington and manager Derek Shelton a variety of questions for about 40 minutes, ranging from how the team is run, how players are acquired and deployed and the direction of the franchise. The questions remained civil and Williams thanked those in attendance for their passion, but it encapsulated what a large portion of the fan base wants to see: This team taking that next step.

After improving by 14 wins from 2022 (62) to ’23 (76) and giving some hope for a playoff run in ’24, the team cratered in August and finished with 76 wins again. The question becomes whether this team can get over the hump and compete.

The guys who will be in the clubhouse felt that frustration from last season too, but on Saturday, many expressed their belief that the group can compete.

“We’re ready for it,” David Bednar said. “I think everybody in there had a sour taste from last year. Obviously, I think there’s some really good young talent. [We’re] ready to take that next step forward.”

“I believe that 100%,” Nick Gonzales said. “I think we have the talent. I think we have the coaching staff [and] the ability. I totally believe in it going into this season that there’s going to be a different energy around the clubhouse.”

“All the guys here have big talent,” Endy Rodríguez said. “We have a veteran guy like McCutchen. Our attitude [is] to go and play, I think we’re gonna be better this year. I think we just have to listen and pay attention to everything the game tells us.”

Cherington assured fans during the Ask Management panel that the Pirates weren’t done this offseason, but having Jared Jones and Paul Skenes at the jump of the season — both of whom now have a year under their belts — also puts the team in a seemingly better spot than it was 12 months ago.

“It’s a fun group to watch, be a part of and just go by our days,” Jones said. “I get to watch five guys, four guys — however many are in our rotation — just go out there and compete every day. It’s fun to watch.”

It’s not just that much-publicized rotation. Rodríguez’s right elbow feels “like a baby” now that he’s a year and one month removed from surgery and ready to return in 2025. Gonzales improved last year. Bednar — who is noticeably trimmer — is aiming for a big bounceback. There’s talent on the roster.

But like he did at the end of the regular season, McCutchen echoed the words of his former manager, Clint Hurdle. A team beats talent when talent isn’t a team.

Now a designated hitter, McCutchen says there were 15 to 30 winnable games last season that the Pirates let slip through their fingers. Winning even half of those could have put them in the postseason.

“When they start to see those things and you go, ‘If you did that, you could’ve won this amount of games and this could be your record. This is where you would’ve been at,’” McCutchen said. “Yeah, we would’ve been in the playoffs, we would’ve been in the Wild Card [Series]. When you see it like that, that’s when younger guys are able to be like, ‘OK, we can do this.’ Because it’s one thing to just say it, but when you’re able to see it, that changes your perspective. That changes your outlook on not just yourself but on the team as a whole.

“I think it will help if we’re able to see those things. I’m gonna do my due diligence in making that happen, especially going into the season, because we’re gonna need it.”

Gonzales alluded to a change in team mentality in 2025. McCutchen wants it to be about executing; not just putting together several good months but a full campaign.

“I think that should be the mentality going into 2025,” McCutchen said. “We gotta do the best that we can at executing and whatever that’s gonna take, we need to jump on board.”

    PiratesFest Brings Optimism for 2025

As the Pittsburgh Pirates kicked off their annual PiratesFest event, fans were filled with optimism and excitement for the upcoming 2025 season. The event, held at PNC Park, featured player meet-and-greets, autograph sessions, games, and more, giving fans a chance to connect with their favorite players and gear up for the season ahead.

After a challenging few seasons, Pirates fans are hopeful that 2025 will bring new opportunities and successes for the team. With a roster filled with young talent and promising prospects, there is a sense of renewed energy and anticipation among supporters.

The Pirates front office has been hard at work making strategic moves and building a strong foundation for the future. Fans are eager to see how these changes will translate onto the field and are looking forward to seeing the team compete in the upcoming season.

Overall, PiratesFest was a reminder of the passion and dedication that fans have for their team, and a sign that there are brighter days ahead for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2025. Here’s to a successful season filled with excitement, victories, and memories that will last a lifetime. Let’s go Bucs!

  • IDF secret op. brings back body of Oron Shaul – Israel News

IDF special forces and the Shin Bet have retrieved from Gaza the body of long-lost soldier Oron Shaul, the military announced on Sunday.

The secret operation, which involved Shayetet 13 and other special forces, was carried out in recent days before the Israel-Hamas ceasefire had taken effect.

There was no discussion of where in Gaza his body was retrieved from to preserve certain undefined national security interests.

The body of Hadar Goldin was not retrieved, and no mention has been made of exactly how or when that body would be gotten back in negotiations with Hamas, though there is a formula for Palestinian prisoners to be released for dead soldiers bodies after Phase I and the first 42 days of the deal expire, either during Phase II or, more likely, Phase III.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the operation after it was cleared for publication, saying, “In a special operation conducted by the Shin Bet and the IDF, just before the ceasefire took effect, we successfully brought back to Israel the body of Golani Brigade soldier Oron Shaul, of blessed memory.”

“I extend my heartfelt embrace to the Shaul family and express my deepest gratitude to the Shin Bet and IDF forces for their unwavering courage and determination.”

“For many years, the images of Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin, of blessed memory—who fell during Operation Protective Edge in 2014—have stood in my office as a daily reminder of my commitment to bringing them home.

Tonight, we fulfilled the mission of returning Oron. We will not rest, and we will not stop until Hadar Goldin is also brought back to Israel.”

“Our dedication remains steadfast: We will continue working to bring all our captives home—both the living and the fallen,” Netanyahu concluded.

    Body taken by Hamas

On July 20, 2014, Shaul entered the Shejaiya neighborhood near Gaza City in an armored personnel carrier with six other soldiers. The APC was struck by a Kornet anti-tank missile fired by Hamas, killing all those inside.

    Shaul’s body was never found.

Goldin was killed, and his body was taken by Hamas during an August 2014 ambush.

The other two living Israeli hostages who Hamas has held since before the current war are due to be returned to Israel on day 42 of the end of the first phase.

In a top-secret operation conducted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the body of fallen soldier Oron Shaul has been brought back to Israel. Shaul, who was killed during Operation Protective Edge in 2014, had been held by Hamas in Gaza ever since.

The daring mission, carried out by a specialized IDF unit, involved infiltrating enemy territory and retrieving Shaul’s remains under the cover of darkness. The successful operation has brought closure to Shaul’s family and the entire nation, who had been waiting for years for his body to be returned.

The IDF has not disclosed any details about the operation, citing the need to protect the safety of its soldiers and maintain operational security. However, the news of Shaul’s return has been met with both relief and gratitude by the Israeli public.

Shaul’s funeral is expected to take place in the coming days, with dignitaries and officials from across the country paying their respects to the fallen soldier. The IDF has vowed to continue its efforts to bring back all missing soldiers and civilians, no matter how long it takes.

This operation serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Israeli soldiers in defense of their country, and the unwavering commitment of the IDF to fulfill its duty to bring back every soldier, dead or alive. May Oron Shaul’s memory be a blessing, and may his family find peace and closure in this difficult time.

  • ‘Saturday Night Live’ Brings In Tom Hanks, Tina Fey And More To Induct Martin Short Into “Five-Timers Club”

Saturday Night Live lined up Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy and others to welcome Martin Short into the “Five-Timers Club,” or those who have hosted the show at least five times.

“I just want to say I am so happy to be here for this moment, so I would like to present to you the official Five Timer’s Club jacket in exactly your size — a women’s small,” said Jimmy Fallon.

Short then struggled a bit to get the jacket on.

“From the bottom of my heart, I just want to say, I love most of you so much,” Short told the star-studded grouping.

The cameos were in keeping with the show’s 50th season, which has featured appearances from hosts and former cast members.

Also appearing in the opener were Scarlett Johansson (shutting the door on Colin Jost), Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, John Mulaney and Alec Baldwin.

Hanks noted at the outset that in December 1990, he created the SNL Five Timers Club, “an ingeniously lazy way to avoid writing a monologue. It has grown into one of the most exclusive clubs in our industry.”

The opener, in a bar lounge setting, was a bit of a roast of Short.

He said to Fey, “You are one of the rarest things in Hollywood — a writer who’s attractive enough to be on camera.”

“And you are one of the least rare things in Hollywood — a loud man,” she replied.

Short got in some roasting of Steve Martin, his Only Murders in the Building co-star, when Hanks told him that they were serving a signature cocktail, the Marty-tini.

“You know, it’s often paired with our Steve Martini, but tonight, we are serving it solo,” Hanks told him.

“And I bet it’s even better on its own,” Short replied.

There was one political reference during the skit.

At one point, Wiig revealed that she and Short “took a hot yoga class together, where we made love and got kicked out…And then we both voted for Trump.”

“Don’t tell them that,” Short shot back.

“It’s Ok. In this club you can be completely honest. Anyone else want to try?” Wiig said.

“I’ll go,” Rudd said. He then revealed: “Ant-Man’s powers aren’t good.”

“I’ll go,” Fey said. “It’s me that’s flying those drones. All of them.”

“I’ll go,” Hanks said. “I never had Covid.”

“I’ll go,” Johansson said. “I have Covid right now.”

“I’ll go,” Baldwin said. “I have way too many children.”…

This past weekend, “Saturday Night Live” pulled out all the stops to honor comedy legend Martin Short as he joined the prestigious “Five-Timers Club.” The star-studded episode featured appearances from Hollywood heavyweights Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, and more as they paid tribute to Short’s illustrious career in comedy.

Short, who first hosted SNL back in 1986, has been a beloved figure in the entertainment industry for decades, known for his impeccable comedic timing and larger-than-life characters. The Canadian-born actor and comedian has graced the SNL stage multiple times over the years, earning his spot in the exclusive “Five-Timers Club” alongside the likes of Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, and Justin Timberlake.

During the star-studded ceremony, Hanks and Fey took the stage to share heartfelt anecdotes about Short’s impact on the comedy world and his enduring legacy. The two comedy titans praised Short’s versatility as a performer and his unparalleled ability to make audiences laugh no matter the circumstances.

Other special guests, including Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, and Fred Armisen, also made appearances to celebrate Short’s milestone achievement. The evening was filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of surprises as Short was showered with praise and admiration from his peers.

As the festivities came to a close, Short took the stage to deliver a heartfelt speech, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of the SNL family once again. The iconic comedian thanked his fellow cast members, writers, and crew for their support over the years and promised to continue bringing joy and laughter to audiences for years to come.

Overall, the induction of Martin Short into the “Five-Timers Club” was a night to remember, filled with laughter, love, and plenty of unforgettable moments. Here’s to many more years of comedy gold from one of the greatest talents in the business. Cheers to Martin Short!

  • Yee-haw! Fort Worth hospitality industry kicks up its heels as stock show brings home the bacon

The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo is a Fort Worth institution. So too is Pulido’s Kitchen and Cantina, a fixture of the city’s dining scene since 1966.

And this year, the two will join together, as Pulido’s, now part of the locally owned Westland Restaurant Group, will have a location on the stock show grounds.

“I’m excited as I can be about it,” said Bourke Harvey, managing partner at Westland Restaurant Group. “We’ve catered events on-site and off-site at the stock show, but this year we’ll actually be a part of it.”

Harvey, along with operating partner Gigi Howell, acquired Pulido’s in late 2023 just as the restaurant was preparing to close for good. He said one of the company’s goals in reviving the restaurant is to be more involved in events like the stock show and further integrate the Pulido’s brand into the city’s culture.

“That’s why we’re doing more work at the botanic gardens, things like that,” he said. “We want to be part of Fort Worth and build our brand in the process.”

The official name of the location at the stock show will be Pulido’s Rodeo Kitchen. It will be located in the Centennial Room at the Moncrief Building.

While Pulido’s and the stock show are echoes of Fort Worth’s past, the new restaurant is lassoing some new technology to better serve its customers.

Pulido’s Rodeo Kitchen will have seating for about 40, but Harvey knows that many of the exhibitors and kids showing animals need to eat, too. They have worked with some of their point-of-sale vendors to develop efficient online ordering systems to cater to the people at the show who have limited time for a meal.

“A lot of those kids showing their animals and exhibitors, they don’t want to leave their animals or the area for long,” said Harvey. “So we’ve worked to make it very efficient for them, with a QR code, to order food and not be gone from their stall or whatever for long.”

Pulido’s isn’t the only restaurant benefiting from the influx of foot traffic between Jan. 17 and Feb. 8. According to Visit Fort Worth, about a third of visitors to the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo hail from outside Fort Worth. While the visitors spend much of their time at the stock show, they also frequent the city’s hotels, restaurants and shopping centers before and after the show.

Visit Fort Worth says more fans, up 12%, are staying on the grounds and attending events such as the Roadhouse concert series or eating at area restaurants instead of saddling up and going home.

The 125th edition of the show in 2022 brought in $115 million in direct spending and attracted 1.2 million people, according to a stock show report to Fort Worth City Council that May.

This is the second year that two of the city’s new high-end hotels — The Crescent Hotel Fort Worth and Bowie House — have sought to corral and market to the stock show’s more well-heeled crowd.

The Bowie House will be offering several special events, including a showcase of Fort Worth musical talent, complimentary boot shines, and line dancing and two-stepping lessons.

Harvey, who is also a partner or owns restaurants in seven other states, said the stock show and its timing is an economic bonanza for Fort Worth restaurants and the hospitality industry. The first couple of months after the holidays are the worst time in the restaurant business, he said.

“At my restaurants in other states, after the holidays, it’s not a question of ‘are we going to lose money?’ It’s a question of ‘how much?’” he said. “Not here. The stock show sets Fort Worth apart and for restaurants, hotels, all hospitality, it means a lot. And for some restaurants, it means everything.”

Harvey also caters to the stock show crowd at his Curly’s Frozen Custard restaurant at 4017 Camp Bowie Blvd., just a few blocks from the event. He has served a Cow Patty special featuring a brownie and chocolate custard for several years during the stock show. This year, requests for the special concoction began in November.

“I started serving it two months early this year because I had so many requests,” he said. “That’s the power of the stock show.”

Yee-haw! Fort Worth hospitality industry kicks up its heels as stock show brings home the bacon

The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is in full swing, and the city’s hospitality industry is reaping the benefits. From hotels and restaurants to bars and shops, businesses are seeing a surge in visitors as cowboys and cowgirls flock to town for the annual event.

With rodeo performances, livestock shows, and a bustling midway, there’s no shortage of entertainment for attendees. And when they’re not at the show, visitors are exploring all that Fort Worth has to offer, from the historic Stockyards to the vibrant downtown area.

Hotels are booking up, restaurants are bustling, and shops are seeing an increase in foot traffic. The city’s hospitality industry is kicking up its heels and welcoming guests with open arms.

So if you’re in Fort Worth during the stock show, be sure to join in on the fun and experience the true spirit of Texas hospitality. Yee-haw!

  • Trump Brings a Cannon to a Knife Fight

Regarding Jack Smith’s reports, I don’t care who does it, or if it’s against Cannon nose-up-fpotus’s (I’m being polite) -butt’s rulings. It’s not against the law, her rulings are. The cases will obviously be dismissed by fpotus, so nothing is being obstructed. Talk about “lawfare”. I am sick of how fpotus gets away with this crap. Release all of the reports and do it now. Note to progressives. In the future, get as many liberal justices on the benches as possible. So we get some freedom and justice.

Regarding Greenland. Denmark and Greenland ought to bully the fpotus right back, show they’re not afraid of the big, bad wolf. And meanwhile, send millions of memes making fun of the idea to “truth” social, X, and “faux” news to crash their ugly sites.

Regarding Fetterman. He is a publicity hound, sadly. And for some reason, found it necessary to bend the knee. Unless you’re a true blue progressive, you are not for the people. Most Democrats and all Republicans are not progressive, which means, getting government out of legislating anything to do with women’s reproductive organs, and forbidding government to EVER legislate on that. It means supporting LBGTQ persons’ right to exist, and right to change gender identity – seriously, who does that hurt? Nicknames, pronouns, birth names. C’mon. Half the entertainment industry would have to stop using stage names, or authors’, pen names. Stop harassing and demonizing people. Solve bathroom issues locally, with all sides agreeing on something, no blanket national or state decree. Use Olympic Sports criteria if needed in sports. There are solutions without screaming “groomer” incessantly.

In a recent turn of events, former President Donald Trump has once again made headlines by bringing a cannon to a knife fight. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Despite facing multiple legal challenges and criticism from both sides of the political spectrum, Trump has remained defiant and unapologetic in his actions. From his controversial statements on social media to his continued efforts to undermine the 2020 election results, Trump has shown no signs of backing down.

Many have likened Trump’s approach to a cannon, as he continues to make bold and aggressive moves in the face of opposition. While his adversaries may be armed with knives, Trump has shown that he is not afraid to use brute force to get what he wants.

Whether you support him or not, there is no denying that Trump is a force to be reckoned with. Love him or hate him, one thing is for sure – he is not one to back down from a fight, even if it means bringing a cannon to a knife fight.

  • Kansas City Chiefs Divisional Playoff game brings cold temps

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Gameday gear will need to include multiple layers and handwarmers for Chiefs fans attending Saturday’s AFC Divisional game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The KCTV5 First Warn Weather Team expects a wild ride off the field over the next 24 hours.

    FRIDAY

Friday afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the high 40s across the Kansas City metro.

ALSO READ: Many Chiefs fans hope for another Super Bowl celebration as KC leaders focus on doing so safely

This is the time to get out, shop for tailgate supplies, and prepare for the game.

Temperatures will slide nearly 30 degrees by kickoff Saturday afternoon.

    Chiefs Forecast
    Chiefs Forecast(KCTV)

    SATURDAY

Two cold fronts are moving toward Kansas City bringing cloud cover, higher wind, significant colder conditions, and the possibility of frozen precipitation.

    OVERNIGHT

A new cold front will develop out of the northwest and transition south.

It will continue to carry through heavy cloud cover yet still build moisture from the south, providing an opportunity for a few isolated flurries to the north that drop into the metro.

ALSO READ: Chiefs’ Mecole Hardman carries ‘doubtful’ injury status ahead of AFC Divisional

This flurry opportunity is very weak and not expected to result in any kind of significant accumulation that should alter your outdoor plans whether that’s an early morning prep with the smoker or getting the RV ready for the drive over to Arrowhead.

    TAILGATING

Temperatures will have already dropped as low as 23° as Chiefs fans line up to wait for parking lot gates to open.

This will be the high for the day as temperatures are expected to drop throughout the afternoon and evening.

The front itself is expected to linger just slightly south of Interstate-70, dragging across the region from west to east.

This gives just enough time for snowfall to redevelop and transition out of Central Kansas into our area. Light flurries or a dusting is expected to accumulate south of the interstate loop, but a few flakes flying into the downtown area and towards arrowhead are possible between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

ALSO READ: Kansas City begins to plan for another possible Super Bowl Parade in the wake of tragedy

Again, we do not anticipate any kind of significant accumulation that should alter your outdoor plans, however, the cold air and high wind are going to create problems.

    KICKOFF

Temperatures are expected to hover between 17° and 21° for the duration of the game.

Wind gusts between 20 mph and 25 mph will be common. Not only could the wind impact the kicking game, it will also make it feel even colder. Fans should dress accordingly for temperatures to feel like 5° to 10° throughout the game.

ALSO READ: Supreme Court upholds law banning TikTok if it’s not sold by its Chinese parent company

Sustained wind mainly out of the northwest will range between 10 mph and 15 mph throughout the afternoon and into the early evening.

    POSTGAME

Next week brings dangerously cold weather to Kansas City.
Next week brings dangerously cold weather to Kansas City.(KCTV5)

Even colder temperatures move in after the game and into early next week.

Remember that the mornings for the start of the work week could have feel like temperatures ranging from -10° to -20°

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to face off against their opponents in the Divisional Playoff game this weekend, but fans and players alike will have to brave the cold temperatures to cheer on their team.

With a forecasted temperature hovering around freezing, the Chiefs and their loyal supporters will have to bundle up and brace themselves for a chilly game day experience. Despite the cold weather, the excitement and anticipation for this pivotal playoff matchup are sure to keep everyone warm.

As the Chiefs take the field and battle it out for a spot in the conference championship, the frosty temperatures will only add to the intensity of the game. So grab your favorite Chiefs gear, a warm coat, and a hot beverage, and get ready to cheer on your team in what promises to be a thrilling and frigid playoff showdown. Let’s go Chiefs! #ChiefsKingdom.

  • Weekend storm brings Triad rain, snow for some

WATCH: Weekend storm brings Triad rain, snow for some

Meteorologist Brian Slocum & Dylan Hudler have your frigid forecast

EITHER. YEAH, DEFINITELY. WELL, I’LL TELL YOU WHAT. DALE AND I ARE HERE TO EDUCATE YOU ALL ABOUT WHAT’S GOING TO UNFOLD HERE THE LAST COUPLE, NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. SO LET’S START WITH THAT. I’M GOING TO START WITH A LITTLE BIT OF A SUMMARY OF HOW WE EXPECT THINGS TO GO INTO NEXT WEEK, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. WE’RE GOING TO START WITH SOME. RAIN WILL LIKELY BE A BIT WINTRY NORTH AND WEST. THE TRIAD COULD SEE SOME WET WEATHER ALSO EARLY IN THE DAY ON SUNDAY. WE’RE EXPECTING VERY COLD TEMPERATURES THAT WILL LIKELY STAY. KEEP OUR NUMBERS BELOW FREEZING FOR SEVERAL DAYS NEXT WEEK, AND A POSSIBILITY THAT SOME MOISTURE COULD MAKE THINGS A LITTLE INTERESTING AROUND HERE. AROUND THE MIDDLE PART OF NEXT WEEK. AND DYLAN’S GOING TO TAKE YOU THROUGH THAT PART OF THE FORECAST. TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW, 20S AND 30S. IT’S COLD, BUT IT’S AN IMPROVEMENT OVER WHERE WE WERE YESTERDAY. TEMPERATURES ARE UP SOMEWHERE BETWEEN EIGHT AND 15 DEGREES FROM WHERE WE WERE 24 HOURS AGO. I LIKE IMPROVEMENTS IN THAT DEPARTMENT. WE’VE GOT A MILDER FLOW OF AIR COMING AROUND A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WEEK ONE, BUT IT’S BUILDING ACROSS THE SOUTH. WE’RE GOING TO SEE SOME LIGHTER BREEZES TODAY, AND PART OF THE STORM THAT’S GOING TO IMPACT US OVER THE WEEKEND IS BEGINNING TO TAKE SHAPE, WITH SOME MOISTURE COMING OFF THE PACIFIC THAT’S MOVING INTO TEXAS. WE’RE WAITING FOR AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE TO DEVELOP JUST EAST OF THE ROCKIES. TRAILING. THAT IS VERY COLD AIR. THE CIRCULATION AROUND EASTERN CANADA IS GOING TO PUSH THIS SOUTH VERY, VERY QUICKLY. AND THIS IS GOING TO SET UP THE DEEP FREEZE ACROSS THE SOUTH AND MAKE ANYTHING THAT DEVELOPS FROM A STORM PERSPECTIVE. VERY INTERESTING. ACROSS THE SOUTHERN STATES. THAT’S DOWN THE ROAD THOUGH. TODAY IS A SUNNY DAY AND PROBABLY THE BEST DAY WE’RE GOING TO SEE FOR A WHILE. LIGHT BREEZES OUT OF THE SOUTH HIGH, CLOSE TO 50 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON. WILL BE CLOSE TO THAT. ALSO IN THE FOOTHILLS, HIGH OF AROUND 49 DEGREES TODAY. SUNSHINE GIVES WAY TO SOME EVENING CLOUDS TONIGHT AS THAT STORM TAKES SHAPE AND BEGINS TO MOVE OUR WAY. EVEN MOUNTAIN TEMPERATURES GET BACK INTO THE 40S TODAY, AND THEN WE’LL SEE CONDITIONS GET A LITTLE COOLER LATER ON TONIGHT AND COULD GET A LITTLE SLIPPERY OUT THERE OVERNIGHT. HERE’S THE REASON WHY CLOUDS ARRIVE. FIRST, TEMPERATURES FALL INTO THE 30S. NOTICE, THOUGH, FOR THE TRIAD, THEY STAY ABOVE FREEZING. WE HAVEN’T HAD MANY DAYS LIKE THIS IN JANUARY, WHERE MORNING LOWS ARE ARE NEAR THE FREEZING MARK, MID TO UPPER 30S IN SOME CASES, BUT IT’S COLD ENOUGH WHERE WE COULD SEE A WINTRY MIX FAVORING SNOW ACROSS OUR NORTHERN WESTERN AREAS DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. I THINK BY THE TIME YOU WAKE UP TOMORROW MORNING, RAIN WILL BE OVER, THE AREA. IT SHOULD BE RELATIVELY BRIEF, MOVING OUT AROUND MIDDAY AND THEN WE SHOULD GET A PRETTY DECENT LULL COMING INTO THE AREA, AND THEN WE’LL START TO SEE MORE SHOWERS DEVELOPING LATE SATURDAY NIGHT OR EARLY SUNDAY. BUT NOTICE WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE AGAIN, WHERE WE’RE WARM, RELATIVELY SPEAKING, IN THE UPPER 30S AND LOWER 40S. NOW, AS THE COLD AIR RACES IN AND BEGINS TO INTERACT WITH THAT EXITING MOISTURE, THERE’S A CHANCE THAT WE COULD SEE A POP OF SNOW AT THE VERY END OF THIS. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT THE TYPE OF SETUP THAT NORMALLY BRINGS US A GOOD SNOW. IT’S USUALLY AS THE MOISTURE IS LEAVING, YOU SEE A BRIEF TRANSITION, BUT I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT AS WE HEAD INTO SUNDAY, THERE’S A CHANCE THAT WE MIGHT GET A LIGHT COATING OF SNOW IN SOME OF THE GRASSY SURFACES, ESPECIALLY. I DON’T THINK THIS INITIALLY AFFECTS ROADS, BUT WE’LL HAVE TO WATCH HOW HOW QUICKLY TEMPERATURES COOL DOWN AND JUST HOW WET THINGS ARE HEADING INTO SUNDAY EVENING. SO FOR THE MOUNTAINS, WE’VE GOT SNOWY WEATHER DEVELOPING OR A SNOWY MIX. AT LEAST THAT WINTRY MIX TRANSITIONS TO RAIN ON SATURDAY. THEN WE’LL LIKELY SEE MORE MIX, FAVORING A LITTLE MORE SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS. FOR THE TRIAD, IT’S MOSTLY A RAIN EVENT WITH A LULL DURING THE DAY ON SATURDAY THAT COULD BRIEFLY CHANGE OVER TO RAIN OR SNOW, AND THEN IT GETS COLD. IN FACT, WE COULD SET RECORDS NEXT WEEK FOR THE COLDEST HIGH TEMPERATURES WE’VE SEEN FOR AT LEAST TWO DAYS. NEXT WEEK, LET’S BRING IN METEOROLOGIST DYLAN HUDLER. DYLAN, THAT’S NOT THE ONLY THING WE’RE WATCHING FOR NEXT WEEK. IF WE GET A STORM DEVELOP THAT DEVELOPS IN THIS MUCH COLDER AIR, THIS COULD REALLY HAVE AN IMPACT ON THE TRIAD. YEAH. THIS IS THIS IS A VERY, VERY COLD ARCTIC AIR MASS, TO SAY THE LEAST. THIS WILL BE SOME OF THE COLDEST AIR WE’VE HAD IN YEARS. REALLY. WE’RE FORECASTING AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S FOR THREE DAYS STRAIGHT. TEMPERATURES COULD STAY BELOW FREEZING FOR LIKE 72 CONSECUTIVE HOURS. MONDAY, TUESDAY AND EVEN INTO WEDNESDAY AS WELL. SO THERE ARE SOME THINGS WE KNOW ABOUT NEXT WEEK, AND THERE’S STILL SOME UNANSWERED QUESTIONS. WE HAVE. WE KNOW IT’S GOING TO BE COLD. WHAT WE DON’T KNOW IS WHETHER OR NOT A STORM SYSTEM CAN LINE UP WITH THAT COLD AIR, AND WHETHER OR NOT WE’LL HAVE ENOUGH MOISTURE TO PRODUCE SOME WINTRY WEATHER WITH THIS KIND OF COLD AIR SET UP, THAT STORM TRACK LOOKS TO MAINLY BE THROUGH THE DEEP SOUTH, MAINLY ALONG THE GULF COAST AND THEN UP THE EAST COAST. SO CALL ME CRAZY, BUT IT ALMOST SEEMS LIKE WILMINGTON HAS A BETTER CHANCE OF WINTRY WEATHER NEXT WEEK THAN THE TRIAD, WHICH IS USUALLY NOT THE CASE. THIS IS A SETUP WE HAVEN’T SEEN IN QUITE SOME TIME. THERE ARE DIFFERENT LONG RANGE MODEL SOLUTIONS OF HOW THIS WILL ALL PLAY OUT. WE KNOW THIS SYSTEM IS COMING THROUGH. THIS WEEKEND WILL GIVE US A BRIEF CHANCE OF SOME WINTRY WEATHER, BUT IT’S REALLY NEXT WEEK WHEN THAT BIG TIME COLD AIR IS IN PLACE WHERE IF ENOUGH MOISTURE CAN LINE UP, THERE COULD BE SOME WINTRY WEATHER IN PARTS OF THE CAROLINAS. HERE, LOCALLY IN THE TRIAD, I THINK AS OF THE PAST 24 HOURS OR SO, OUR CHANCE OF WINTER WEATHER NEXT WEEK MAY BE DECREASING JUST A BIT. THAT STORM TRACK LOOKS TO STAY FURTHER SOUTH AND EAST, MAINLY ALONG THE COAST, WITH THE REST OF US DRY. BUT FOR RIGHT NOW, THERE’S AT LEAST THE POTENTIAL FOR MAYBE A WINTRY SYSTEM. REGARDLESS, OUR MESSAGING IS COLD. PREPARE YOUR HOME THIS WEEKEND FOR VERY, VERY COL

Friday’s weather will be the best we’ll see for awhile. A storm brings rain and some limited snow this weekend. Early next week, and extremely cold air mass will move into the South, keeping Triad temps below freezing for several days. We’ll also be tracking another winter storm next weelk. Here’s the latest.

Over the weekend, the Triad region experienced a mixed bag of weather as a storm system moved through the area. While some areas saw heavy rain, others were treated to a dusting of snow.

The rain started on Saturday and continued through Sunday, bringing much-needed precipitation to the region. Some areas reported over an inch of rain, which helped alleviate dry conditions and replenish water supplies.

In higher elevations, the rain turned to snow, creating a winter wonderland for residents. While the snowfall was not significant, it was a welcome sight for many who have been missing the winter weather this season.

Overall, the weekend storm brought a variety of weather to the Triad, from rain to snow and everything in between. It was a reminder of the unpredictable nature of Mother Nature and the importance of being prepared for whatever weather may come our way.
