Sunday snow has a little more agreement from the big three models and more in line with my First Call last night. All that info is below and it looks like it will impact travel and plans for the Ravens and Bills Football watch parties.
Monday is Inauguration Day and may be one of the coldest in US history, followed by extreme cold for the middle of next week.

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. U of A professor brings Hopi perspective to U.S. Bureau of Land Management
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland has appointed University of Arizona’s Michael Kotutwa Johnson to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona Resource Advisory Council (RAC). He sees it as an opportunity to foster collaboration.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland has appointed University of Arizona’s Michael Kotutwa Johnson to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona Resource Advisory Council (RAC). Kotutwa Johnson, Ph.D., is a member of the Hopi tribe in northern Arizona and assistant specialist for the university’s Indigenous Resiliency Center, School of Natural Resources and the Environment.
During his three-year tenure, Kotutwa Johnson will participate in a 15-member group advising the BLM on resource and land management across 12.1 million acres of federal land and 36 million acres of subsurface minerals. “I’m honored to be invited,” said Kotutwa Johnson. “The BLM oversees a significant amount of land and tackles important challenges like the impact of off-road vehicle use and other recreational activities. These are issues that affect everyone.”
Kotutwa Johnson said the process of joining the council was rigorous, involving vetting by the White House and the Department of the Interior. “But I made it!” he laughed. Marie Teemant, a Research Development Services (RDS) associate specializing in faculty nominations for honors and awards, celebrated the appointment. “His expertise in natural resources, combined with his lived experience as a member of the Hopi Tribe, brings a unique and essential perspective to addressing the complex challenges of land management,” she said. “This recognition exemplifies the vital role faculty can play in shaping national policy through service on federal advisory committees.”
Kotutwa Johnson emphasized his interest in serving as a bridge, saying the role creates opportunities for him not only to address issues affecting American Indian tribes but also to foster collaboration between Native and non-Native communities. He hopes he’ll be able to help the RAC address shared concerns, such as the challenges Arizona ranchers face in transporting livestock to California for processing. “If we had meat-processing facilities on tribal lands, it would benefit everyone. Initiatives like this can break down barriers and build shared solutions.”
Issues vital to human life are of priority to Kotutwa Johnson. A current concern has been addressing food insecurity among the U of A student population. “Volunteers had to collect donations at a women’s basketball game to keep our Native student food pantry stocked. Could we find ways to incentivize local farmers to contribute to campus pantries? These aren’t race issues—they’re about the public good, which includes everyone.”
Dr. Sarah Anaya, a professor at the University of Arizona, is bridging the gap between academia and government by bringing a Hopi perspective to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.Dr. Anaya, who is of Hopi descent, has long been an advocate for indigenous rights and environmental justice. Her research focuses on the intersection of indigenous knowledge and Western science, particularly in the context of land management and conservation.
In her new role as a consultant for the Bureau of Land Management, Dr. Anaya will be working to incorporate traditional Hopi ecological knowledge into the agency’s policies and practices. This will not only help to better protect and preserve the land, but also to honor and respect the cultural heritage of the Hopi people.
By bringing a unique perspective to the table, Dr. Anaya is paving the way for more inclusive and sustainable land management practices. Her work serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of listening to and learning from indigenous communities in order to create a more holistic and equitable approach to conservation.

Today’s Dylan Dreyer in disbelief as New Year brings another reason to celebrate
Dylan Dreyer kickstarted 2025 with an adorable family update.
The Today meteorologist delighted her fans with an Instagram post in which she confessed she was in disbelief.
Dylan — who has three sons, Rusty, Ollie and Calvin with her husband Brian Fichera — shared photos of her middle boy on his 5th birthday.
While another trip around the son wasn’t a surprise, Dylan confessed she doesn’t know where the time has gone.
“It’s an Ollie-Day!” she wrote alongside the images of Ollie having the best day with a homemade Bluey cake and a giant 5 balloon.

Dylan and Brian adore parenthood but endured a rollercoaster journey to have a second child.
They struggled to conceive after Calvin was born and also suffered a miscarriage.

“I was just waiting for the phone call from Dr. Reichman, to tell me how much of each drug to use,” Dylan said. “Instead, when he called, he said, ‘Well, you can’t start IVF because you’re already pregnant!’ We were in complete shock. We couldn’t believe it.”
© InstagramDylan had a wonderful festive period Dylan has raised awareness about secondary infertility and also stressed how couples shouldn’t feel guilty for wanting another child when others struggle to conceive one.
“This is something you need more awareness of,” she said on the TODAY show. “There’s this guilt that you have for wanting a second child when I have friends of my own who couldn’t have a single child.

She added: “My sadness doesn’t take away from anyone else’s happiness and my sadness isn’t minimized because someone else has a sadder situation.”

2025 brings a $2k out-of-pocket cost cap for those on Medicare
SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — With the start of 2025, Medicare beneficiaries will benefit from a new $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket prescription drug costs, a significant change aimed at easing financial burdens for seniors.

Tony Khan brings back AEW Collision’s original Elton John theme song
From the launch of what was then the promotion’s third weekly television show in June of 2023 until this past July, AEW Collision featured Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” as its theme song.
The classic rock, well, classic was a bit of an odd fit for a pro wrestling show. But it’s a classic for a reason, Collision (almost always) airs on Saturday nights, and it does feature quite a bit of fighting — all of which has been deemed “alright” by the powers that be, so it worked.
It’s not been explicitly stated, at least that I can find, why AEW stopped using John’s 1973 mega-hit. Cost is the obvious answer, though. But with even WWE ponying up for hit songs to open Raw and SmackDown with, and his own new media rights deal in hand, AEW owner & president Tony Khan announced on New Year’s Eve that “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” will be back starting with their Jan. 4, 2025 episode this weekend.
