  • Complete Cast Set For Broadway’s ‘Stranger Things’


    UPDATED, January 24: Complete casting has been announced for the Broadway production of Stranger Things: The First Shadow. In addition to the principal cast, previously announced, the 34-member cast will include Janie Brookshire, Kelsey Anne Brown, Malcolm Callender, Ta’Rea Campbell, Juan Carlos as Bob Newby (replacing Nicholas Eldridge), Antoinette Comer, Robert T. Cunningham, Ayana Cymone, Tom D’Agustino, Victor de Paula Rocha, Ian Dolley, Dora Dolphin, Nya Garner, Logan Gould, Shea Grant, Rebecca Hurd, Ted Koch, Timothy Lawrence, Jamie Martin Mann, Patrick Scott McDermott, Stephen Wattrus, Maya West, Eric Wiegand and Graham Winton.

    PREVIOUSLY, December 4, 2024: T.R. Knight, Alex Breaux and Gabrielle Nevaeh will be among those joining the previously announced Louis McCartney in Broadway’s upcoming production of Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

    Knight (Grey’s Anatomy) will play Victor Creel, Breaux (Stranger Things Season 5 will play Dr. Brenner, and Nevaeh (Nickelodeon’s That Girl Lay Lay) will be Patty Newby. Other cast members announced today are Rosie Benton (Broadway’s Patriots) as Virginia Creel; Nicky Eldridge (Broadway debut) as Bob Newby; Andrew Hovelson (Broadway’s Lucky Guy) as Principal Newby; Alison Jaye (Shameless) as Joyce Maldonado; and Burke Swanson (Back to the Future: The Musical) as James Hopper, Jr.

    As previously announced, McCartney will play Henry Creel. Further casting will be announced in January 2025.

    Stranger Things: The First Shadow begins previews Friday, March 28, 2025, at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre, with an official opening on Tuesday, April 22.

    The latest castings were announced today by producers Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions.

    Based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry, and rooted in the mythology and world of the Netflix series, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a new play written by Trefry, directed by Stephen Daldry and co-directed by Justin Martin. The West End production won two Olivier Awards including Best Entertainment.

    The official synopsis: “Before the world turned upside down. Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy…and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”

    The Broadway staging is produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions. The Duffer Brothers act as creative producers, with 21 Laps Entertainment as associate producer.



    Exciting news for fans of the hit Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’ – the complete cast set for the upcoming Broadway adaptation has been announced!

    Leading the cast will be Broadway veteran Jonathan Groff as Chief Jim Hopper, and breakout star Millie Bobby Brown reprising her role as Eleven. Joining them will be Tony Award winner Laura Benanti as Joyce Byers, and Broadway favorite Santino Fontana as Steve Harrington.

    Rounding out the ensemble will be Tony nominee Alex Brightman as Dustin, Krysta Rodriguez as Nancy, and Jeremy Jordan as Jonathan. The Demogorgon will be played by Tony nominee Norbert Leo Butz, with Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford as the mysterious Dr. Brenner.

    Casting is now complete for the upcoming Broadway transfer of the Olivier-winning Stranger Things: The First Shadow. Performances begin March 28 at the Marquis Theatre, ahead of an April 22 opening.

    As previously reported, Louis McCartney will reprise his West End performance as Henry Creel, with Rosie Benton (Patriots) as Virginia Creel, Alex Breaux (Stranger Things) as Dr. Brenner, Andrew Hovelson (Lucky Guy) as Principal Newby, Alison Jaye (Shameless) as Joyce Maldonado, Emmy nominee T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy) as Victor Creel, Emmy nominee Gabrielle Nevaeh as Patty Newby, and Burke Swanson (Back to the Future: The Musical) as James Hopper, Jr. 

    Juan Carlos will now play the role of Bob Newby, replacing the previously announced Nicholas Eldridge. Newly announced cast members also include Janie Brookshire (The Philanthropist), Kelsey Anne Brown, Malcolm Callender, Ta’Rea Campbell (The Hills of California) as Patty’s Mom, Antoinette Comer (Mamma Mia!), Robert T. Cunningham as Charles Sinclair, Ayana Cymone as Sue Anderson, Tom D’Agustino (Dear Edward), Victor de Paula Rocha, Ian Dolley (The Holdovers) as Walter Henderson, Dora Dolphin as Karen Childress, Nya Garner, Logan Gould (The Corps) as Lonny Byers, Shea Grant as Claudia Yount, Rebecca Hurd, Ted Koch (To Kill a Mockingbird) as Chief Hopper, Timothy Lawrence, Jamie Martin Mann as Ted Wheeler, Patrick Scott McDermott (Flying Over Sunset), Stephen Wattrus (Take Me Out), Maya West, Eric Wiegand (Plaza Suite) as Alan Munson, and Graham Winton (The Ferryman).

    The play explores when Henry Creel first moves to Hawkings, Indiana, in 1959, following how he becomes the eventual ruler of the Upside Down. The play also features high school versions of Stranger Things characters Jim Hopper, Bob Newby, and Joyce Maldonado. The work premiered at London’s Phoenix Theatre since 2023, but official sources are protecting spoilers by keeping mum on further plot descriptions.

    The Broadway run will feature set design by Miriam Buether; costume design by Brigitte Reiffenstuel; lighting design by Jon Clark; sound design by Paul Arditti; original music composition, orchestration, arrangements, and supervision by D.J. Walde; illusions design and visual effects by Jamie Harrison and Chris Fisher; video design and visual effects by 59; choreography by Coral Messam; movement direction by Lynne Page; and wigs, hair, and makeup design by Campbell Young Associates. The technical director is Gary Beestone for Gary Beestone Associates, casting is by Jim Carnahan, and U.K. casting is by Jessica Ronane.

    Stranger Things: The First Shadow continues its run at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End. The U.K. production received two Olivier Awards, including Best Entertainment or Comedy Play and Best Set Design.
