  • ‘I feel pity for Spurs fan’ – Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit says ‘broken’ Ange Postecoglou should be SACKED after derby defeat

Ange Postecoglou should be sacked as Tottenham boss after their north London derby defeat.

That’s the view of Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit, who told talkSPORT that ‘broken’ Spurs need to put their players out of their misery.

Ange Postecoglou should face the sack, according to Emmanuel Petit

    4

Ange Postecoglou should face the sack, according to Emmanuel Petit

Fresh from a tricky FA Cup victory over non-league Tamworth on Sunday, Postecoglou’s side went into the clash at the Emirates Stadium in need of a reaction and got one when Heung-min Son put them ahead early on.

However, it didn’t take long for Arsenal to seize control of the game and secure a 2-1 victory in a game that could have gone even further in the Gunners’ favour.

As well as keeping them stuck in 13th spot in the table, Spurs have lost four of their last five games in the Premier League and picked up just 11 points in their last 12 games, conceding 22 goals in the process.

With Tottenham 14 points from the top four and just eight points from the drop zone, Petit believes that the time is now for Spurs to make a change.

Speaking to talkSPORT from the Emirates Stadium, Petit said: “I was watching Ange Postecoglou and he must be feeling really alone on the pitch tonight.

“I think things are probably coming to the end for him. I think that something has to change.

“We can see the league, we can see the faces of the players tonight on the pitch and they look so miserable, nobody looks like themselves.

“As I said, I think something has to change at Spurs so I think he will get the sack.”

He added: “I feel pity for the Spurs fan. Honestly, I feel pity.

“Game after game, I’ve watched this team and I’m thinking, is it Postecoglou’s fault?

Arsenal were deserving of their victory at the Emirates Stadium

“When I look at this team, I have no idea what they want to do on the pitch, what kind of system, what kind of movements, even the commitment and the behaviour of the players.

“I know that they give everything on the pitch, but that’s not enough. When you look at the quality individually and collectively in this team, something has been broken.

“They’ve been losing so many games, they’re dropping down the table, they’re not far the relegation zone. We’re talking about a team that should be playing for the top position in the Premier League.

Arsenal labelled ‘Cringe FC’ for Gabriel Jesus gesture by Jason Cundy after victory over Tottenham

“So this is something for me that worries me the most.

“If I was a Spurs fans – and I’m not in the board, I’m not Mr Levy – but to be honest with you, something has to change.”

Tottenham haven’t been helped by key injuries to Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Destiny Udogie and Rodrigo Bentancur, while Richarlison has just returned to fitness.

But reflecting on their fitness woes, Petit responded: “Injuries are something very important to deal with but they have enough quality in the squad.

Meanwhile it's that sinking feeling once again for Spurs

“Look at the players on the pitch, look at Son – he was amazing on the pitch for five years. Maddison this season – Maddison last year was such a great player, what has happened to him?

“Something is broken in this team and you can’t sack all of the players and so you have to make the easiest decision and that’s to sack the manager.

“I don’t like saying that and I feel for Postecoglou, but he deserves to be sacked because they’re going down game after game so change something.”

Tottenham are next in action on Sunday when they travel to face Everton, before taking on German side Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday.

Speaking to talkSPORT after the game, Postecoglou said: “I just thought the first half in particular was just way too passive. We allowed Arsenal to control the game and we’re just nowhere near aggressive enough with and without the ball.

Postecoglou needs to turn results around and quickly

“And, you know, allowed them to sort of feel comfortable in the game and that’s not what we’re about.

“It’s unacceptable. It’s a big game, we should be ready for that. And I said we were nowhere near the team that we can be in that first half.

“I think all you do is you get up tomorrow morning and start preparing for a tough game on the weekend.

“Our league form’s unacceptable, the results are unacceptable and it needs to change… as I said, our form and our results are nowhere near good enough so we need to change that.”

The recent North London derby defeat was a tough blow for Spurs fans, and Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit believes that their manager, Ange Postecoglou, should be sacked. As a former player for Arsenal, Petit has strong opinions about their rivals, but he also expresses pity for the fans who have to endure such disappointing performances.

In a recent interview, Petit stated, “I feel pity for Spurs fans. They deserve better than this. Postecoglou has proven to be incapable of turning things around, and it’s time for a change. The team looks broken, and the fans deserve better.”

It’s clear that Petit’s words strike a chord with many football fans, as the pressure mounts on Postecoglou to deliver results. Whether or not the Spurs board will heed Petit’s advice remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – the fans will continue to support their team through thick and thin.

New Orleans terror attack victim with broken legs says he feels ‘lucky’: ‘I’m alive’

The horrific New Years’ Day terror attack in New Orleans left more than a dozen dead, and even more injured after the now-deceased suspect — identified by authorities as Shamsud-Din Jabbar — plowed a vehicle into people and opened fire.

While speaking to NBC News from a hospital bed, Jeremi Sensky, one of the survivors, recalled laying on the ground, seeing his wheelchair’s parts beside him.

He said he assumes he was struck by the truck.

    Jeremy Senski (HEAVEN SENSKY)

Sensky — who told the outlet that he has been paralyzed since 1999 — said his “wheelchair was completely bashed” with pieces scattered.

“So something hit me,” he said.

While he told ABC News that bones in both of his legs were broken, he also said he feels “lucky.”

    “I’m alive,” he noted.

Dr. Jeffrey Elder of the University Medical Center New Orleans told CNN that most of the patients at the facility had suffered “blunt trauma” while a few patients had suffered gunshot wounds.

During an appearance on NewsNation’s “Banfield,” survivor Paige Bryan recalled seeing people hit by the vehicle, describing the experience as “very, very, very traumatic.”

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are slated to travel to New Orleans on Monday, where they “will grieve with the families and community members impacted by the tragic attack on January 1 and meet with officials on the ground,” according to the White House.

Fox News’ Caroline McKee contributed to this report.

In the wake of the tragic terror attack in New Orleans, one victim who suffered from broken legs has spoken out about his experience, expressing gratitude for his survival despite the injuries he sustained.

Despite the harrowing ordeal, the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, shared his perspective on the situation, stating that he feels “lucky” to be alive. In an interview from his hospital bed, he recounted the chaos and fear that unfolded during the attack, but emphasized that he is grateful for the quick response of first responders and the support of the community.

“I never thought something like this could happen to me, but I’m thankful to be alive,” the victim shared. “I may have broken legs, but I know it could have been much worse. I just hope that others affected by this senseless act of violence can find strength and healing in the days ahead.”

As the investigation into the attack continues and the community grapples with the aftermath, the victim’s resilience and gratitude serve as a reminder of the power of hope in the face of tragedy. Despite the challenges ahead, he remains focused on his recovery and the opportunity to move forward with a renewed sense of perspective and appreciation for life.

  • Pistons G Jaden Ivey undergoes surgery to repair broken fibula after collision with Cole Anthony

Pistons G Jaden Ivey undergoes surgery to repair broken fibula after collision with Cole Anthony

Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey was enjoying a career year, which will now have to be put on hold.

The 2022 fifth overall pick underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a broken fibula in his left leg, the team announced.

Ivey suffered the injury after he collided with Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony in the first quarter of Wednesday’s game. The scene immediately interrupted the action, with several players from both teams surrounding Ivey as trainers attended to him. Ivey was eventually stretchered off the court.

Further replay showed Ivey’s ankle was bent several degrees the wrong way.

It was a somber scene as Ivey received treatment, with Anthony in tears as he looked on. The crowd applauded Ivey multiple times and chanted his last name as he was wheeled off with a Gatorade towel covering his left leg.

Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff commented afterward how Ivey’s injury impacted the team, via Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press:

“It’s tough on the whole group, to see him hurting like that is tough on us. He’s built for it, he’s going to shake back knowing him. He’s going to work his tail off and be better than ever when he gets back. It’s tough for sure.”

Such an injury would be brutal for any player, but it’s particularly bad for Ivey given that he seemed to be taking a step forward in his third NBA season.

Before Wednesday, Ivey had been averaging career highs nearly across the board, including in points (17.4 per game), rebounds (4.2), steals (0.9), field-goal percentage (45.3%) and 3-point percentage (39.2%). That performance is a major reason why the Pistons have already equaled last year’s win total with a record of 14-18 entering Wednesday’s game.

The Detroit Pistons announced today that rookie guard Jaden Ivey underwent surgery to repair a broken fibula after a collision with Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony during last night’s game.

Ivey, who has been a standout performer for the Pistons this season, is expected to be out for an extended period of time as he recovers from the injury. The team has not provided a specific timeline for his return, but they are hopeful that he will be able to make a full recovery and return to the court as soon as possible.

The collision between Ivey and Anthony occurred in the second quarter of last night’s game, and Ivey had to be helped off the court by team trainers. The injury is a tough blow for the young guard, who was showing a lot of promise in his rookie season.

We wish Jaden Ivey a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the court soon. In the meantime, the Pistons will have to adjust to playing without one of their key contributors as they continue their season.

  • Pistons’ Jaden Ivey has surgery for broken fibula in left leg

Pistons’ Jaden Ivey has surgery for broken fibula in left leg

Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey underwent surgery for a broken fibula in his left leg, the team announced Thursday.

Ivey, 22, will miss at least most of the remainder of the season, sources told ESPN. The Pistons and Ivey are currently not ruling out a return depending on Detroit’s play and potential postseason run, but the franchise will be cautious on the rehabilitation and recovery of the rising young guard.

The Pistons said Thursday that Ivey will be reevaluated in four weeks.

Ivey, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 draft, has had a career season for the resurgent Pistons in his third year, averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

He exited Wednesday’s game against the Orlando Magic on a stretcher after Cole Anthony slipped and fell into Ivey’s planted leg while going for the ball. Ivey was in obvious distress as he grabbed for his shin, and Detroit’s medical staff quickly attended to him.

Members of the athletic training staff held up towels to block the crowd’s view of the injury, and players from both teams formed a circle around Ivey. After a lengthy delay, he was loaded onto a stretcher and wheeled out of the arena with a towel covering the injury.

Players from both teams consoled Ivey and Anthony, who was noticeably shaken by the play.

“It is tough for all of us,” Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said after Detroit’s 105-96 victory. “There’s no better person or teammate than J.I. and no one cares more about this than he does.”

Detroit is firmly in the Play-In Tournament race this season at 15-18, good for the ninth seed and three games out of sixth place.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The Detroit Pistons’ rookie guard Jaden Ivey underwent successful surgery for a broken fibula in his left leg. The injury occurred during a recent game, and Ivey is expected to miss significant time as he recovers.

Despite the setback, the Pistons are hopeful that Ivey will make a full recovery and return to the court stronger than ever. The young guard has shown promise in his rookie season, and the team is eager to see him back in action.

In the meantime, the Pistons will have to make adjustments to their lineup and game plan without Ivey. Fans are sending their well wishes to the talented rookie as he begins his road to recovery. Stay tuned for updates on Ivey’s progress and expected return date. #GetWellSoonJadenIvey

  • BGT Boxing Day Test – All-time attendance record for a Test in Australia broken at the MCG

BGT Boxing Day Test – All-time attendance record for a Test in Australia broken at the MCG

A new attendance record for a Test match in Australia has been set with more than 350,700 passing through the gates at the MCG across the five days of the fourth Test between Australia and India, surpassing the previous mark of 350,534 set in 1937.

Cricket Australia confirmed on Monday that 51,371 had already come in for the first session of the fifth day, with more to follow later in the afternoon.

The crowd tally meant that more people have attended the 2024 MCG Boxing Day Test than had seen a Sir Donald Bradman-led Australia play England in January 1937 at the same venue, which was played over six days.

The crowds have been absolutely extraordinary for this Test match with daily tallies of 87,242, 85,147, 83,073, 43,867 and 51,371 and counting. A day five crowd exceeding day four is unheard of with the Melbourne Cricket Club, who run the MCG, underestimating the number on day five.

They opened Yarra Park outside the ground for general public parking on day five, which is a rarity. But they only had one gate open and it caused a significant traffic choke point prior to play with a number of fans late to get into the ground.

The record numbers follow the huge crowds India attracted at the MCG at the 2022 T20 World Cup when 90,293 saw India play Pakistan and 82,507 watched India play Zimbabwe.

The Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has always been a highly-anticipated event in the cricketing calendar, and this year was no different. In a historic moment, the all-time attendance record for a Test match in Australia was broken at the MCG during the BGT Boxing Day Test.

Thousands of fans packed into the iconic stadium to witness the thrilling contest between Australia and their opponents, creating an incredible atmosphere that added to the excitement of the match. The record-breaking attendance is a testament to the enduring popularity of Test cricket in Australia and the passion of cricket fans across the country.

The BGT Boxing Day Test at the MCG will go down in history as a memorable occasion, not only for the thrilling on-field action but also for the incredible support from the fans. It was a truly special moment for Australian cricket and a reminder of the unique magic that Test cricket can bring.
