Brooklyn Nets vs Milwaukee Bucks Prediction, Odds and Picks

With the moves they are making right now, it’s quite clear that the Brooklyn Nets have decided to throw this season away. They just got blown out by the Toronto Raptors 130-113, a team that had lost 11 games in a row and suffered a 54 point loss in their last game. D’Angelo Russell made his 2nd debut for the team after being acquired in a trade with the Lakers. He scored 22 and had 8 assists off the bench, but the Nets were just a disaster defensively. Now they head to Milwaukee for a date with the Bucks, a team they’ve beaten twice in 3 meetings this season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo returned to the line-up and Milwaukee snapped a mini 2-game slide with a 120-112 win at Indiana. Giannis had 30 points and 5 assists in that game, with 4 other Bucks players scoring in double-figures. Damian Lillard was not among those 4 players, as he struggled most of the game ending with just 9 points. Milwaukee is a massive favorite in this game, but they’ve not been as reliable at Fiserv Forum as people would have liked them to be. At just 6-9-1 ATS they are among the worst home teams in the league from a bettors standpoint.

Whenever these two teams play it feels like we have a close game. Brooklyn did suffer that big loss last night, but there is still some pride left in this team. They’ve covered the spread in 6 of 7 meetings and are an impressive 12-6-1 ATS in road games this season. Although I’m not feeling very confident, let’s back them plus the massive spread here.

The highly anticipated matchup between the Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks is set to take place this week, and fans are buzzing with excitement. The Nets, led by superstars Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving, have been dominant this season and are currently sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. On the other hand, the Bucks, led by reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, have also been playing at a high level and are nipping at the heels of the Nets in the standings.

In terms of odds, the Nets are currently favored to win this matchup, with most sportsbooks giving them a slight edge over the Bucks. However, with two powerhouse teams like these facing off, anything can happen on any given night.

As for our prediction, we believe that this game will be a close and hard-fought battle between two elite teams. Both the Nets and the Bucks have the firepower to put up big numbers on the scoreboard, so we expect a high-scoring affair. In the end, we think the Nets will come out on top thanks to their potent offense and ability to make clutch plays in crunch time.

Our pick: Brooklyn Nets to win.

Make sure to tune in to this exciting matchup and see if our prediction holds true!

Brooklyn Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks preview: Nets wrap up New Year’s road trip

Back at it. The Brooklyn Nets rang in the New Year with a trip to Canada to face the Toronto Raptors. The Nets fought hard, but the Raps got hot and ended their 11 game losing streak. This is night two of a back-to-back for Jordi Fernandez and the Nets so we’ll see how they manage things this evening.

The Nets will be meeting a familiar foe. The Milwaukee Bucks are healthier than when we last saw them, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. They came back from a 19 point deficit to beat the Indiana Pacers to close out 2024. Milwaukee is back in the top six of the Eastern Conference and hope to keep climbing the ranks from here.

    Where to follow the game

YES Network on TV. WFAN on radio. Tip after 7:30 PM.

    Injuries

No Bojan Bogdanovic, Trendon Watford, or Ziaire Williams. Cam Thomas missed yesterday’s game as part of injury management, but is expected back tonight. Ben Simmons played yesterday, so chances are he’ll miss this one. Noah Clowney took a hard fall last night and had to exit the game. We’ll see how he is today. The worst news, however, may be Maxwell Lewis. He left last night’s game with a knee injury. He will be undergoing an MRI sometime today and the team will be releasing an update. Hoping for the best.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (right patella tendinopathy) and Khris Middleton (recovery from ankle surgery) are both probable.

    The game

Brooklyn won the first and third meetings while Milwaukee won the second contest. This is the last matchup between the two teams this season.

So, when do we start the Giannis is MVP talks? The Greek Freak has been sensational this season and turned it up a notch after Pascal Siakam pissed him off

When he’s got the midrange jumper going, look out. Like all superstars of his ilk, when they’re consistently making jump shots, it makes life hell on opponents. Riley Feldmann of Brew Hoop has more:

There is a reason why we salivate over the possibility of Giannis ever happening upon a jumpshot that has any level of replicability: it’d instantly transform the depth of his offensive game from dominance to possible transcendence. About 22% of his two point looks have been pull-ups this season which is his highest mark since 2021-2022 and he’s making them at a 43.6% rate. Definitely something to keep an eye on heading forward.

My my my. Not that you need more discussion about how amazing Antetokounmpo, but our guys Nekias Duncan and Steve Jones Jr talked about Giannis and the MVP race on the latest edition of The Dunker Spot

It’s time to hoop it up!

Assuming Simmons is out, D’Angelo Russell figures to get back into the Brooklyn Nets starting lineup, 2081 days after his last time in the black and white.

DLo looked terrific in his Brooklyn return as he scored 22 points and handed out eight assists off the bench last night. Not bad for a guy who didn’t have a practice between Sunday’s trade and last night.

He gives the Nets another player who can get their own shot on offense, and that can help keep them close on nights they can’t make anything shake in transition. It will also be fun to see how he and Cam Thomas work as a backcourt tandem. CT is building himself back up from an extended injury absence, so managing his minutes and workload will be a fun subplot to the next week of Nets basketball.

Slowing Damian Lillard down will be a fun challenge for this Nets team. Dame had a rough outing on Tuesday as the Pacers picked up from three quarters court and did everything to make things tough on him. The Nets defense stunk last night, so we know the focus tonight will be on cleaning things up on that side of the ball.

    Player to watch: Brook Lopez

Always great to see an old friend. Amazingly, this is his seventh season as a member of the Bucks. In that time, he’s continued to evolve his game and is incredibly reliable for the Bucks on both sides of the ball. The 36-year-old appeared in every game for the Bucks thus far and will be someone Doc Rivers counts on to keep the team’s defense on the rise. Milwaukee’s defensive rating has improved each month this season and if you’re able to defend, you’re able to contend.

Nic Claxton picked up a double-double last night, but he will need to get the team’s defense back on track. Of Toronto’s 130 points, 60 of them were in the painted area. Even though the Bucks are 26th in paint points this year, anyone can happily take layups if you let them. On the other side, it will be interesting to watch Clax do some more in the half court. He certainly has the potential to be pretty solid

The skill is there. Just gotta put it together night after night.

The voting process for the Naismith Hall of Fame is underway, and former Buck Terry Cummings is a candidate for induction. TC was an excellent player across the 1980s and 1990s, and on some nights, he was even a good singer. Now that’s versatility!

The Brooklyn Nets are set to take on the Milwaukee Bucks in their final game of the New Year’s road trip. Both teams are coming off strong performances and will be looking to secure a win to close out the year on a high note.

The Nets have been on a hot streak lately, winning four of their last five games. Their offense has been firing on all cylinders, with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving leading the charge. Durant has been especially impressive, averaging over 30 points per game in his last five outings.

On the other hand, the Bucks have also been playing well, winning three of their last four games. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been his usual dominant self, putting up monster numbers on both ends of the court.

This matchup promises to be an exciting one, with two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference going head-to-head. The Nets will need to contain Antetokounmpo and the Bucks’ potent offense, while also finding a way to break through Milwaukee’s tough defense.

With both teams at full strength and playing at a high level, this game is sure to be a thriller. Tune in to see who comes out on top in this battle between two Eastern Conference powerhouses.

  • Woman set on fire on subway: NYPD identifies woman killed on Brooklyn train in Coney Island

NEW YORK (WABC) — The woman killed when she was set on fire in a Brooklyn subway car has been tentatively identified by police, after using fingerprint and dental information and DNA evidence.

On Tuesday, NYPD officers identified her as 61-year-old Debrina Kawam.

She is believed to have been homeless, sleeping on the subway when she was set on fire.

Last week, a grand jury indicted the alleged subway arsonist on four counts of murder — one count of murder in the first degree, three counts of murder in the second degree and arson in the first degree during a hearing Friday.

Sebastian Zapeta, 33, did not appear in court for prosecutors’ brief announcement of the indictment but he must appear when he is arraigned on the indictment on Jan. 7.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said that “murder in the first degree carries the possibility of life without parole,” calling it a charge that is “more significant in state court than currently in federal court.”

“We believe very strongly that this case belongs in the state court,” he said, quickly adding, “we have a very strong working relationship with our federal partners and of course we will always do what is in the best interests” of the case.

His comments came after Mayor Eric Adams directed the NYPD to work with Homeland Security and ICE to explore criminal prosecution of undocumented immigrants.

RELATED | Adams suggests federal prosecutors also take case of accused subway arsonist after woman killed

Gonzalez thanked grand jurors who watched the graphic surveillance video of her death recovered from a subway car.

“Right around the holiday, to have to see the video and the images of a woman set on fire is very hard to deal with,” he said. “This was a malicious deed, a sleeping vulnerable woman on our subway system. This was intentional and we intend to prove this in a court of law.”

Police took Zapeta into custody while he was riding a train on the same line later that day. Authorities say he claimed not to know what had happened but identified himself in photos and surveillance video showing the fire being lit.

A Brooklyn address for Zapeta released by police after his arrest matches a shelter that provides housing and substance abuse support.

Federal immigration officials said he was deported in 2018 but returned to the U.S. illegally sometime after that.

The harrowing episode has renewed concerns about safety in the nation’s largest mass transit system.

In a tragic and horrifying incident, a woman was set on fire on a subway train in Brooklyn, ultimately leading to her death. The NYPD has now identified the victim as a 35-year-old woman who was killed on a train in Coney Island.

The details surrounding this brutal attack are still unclear, but what is known is that the woman was targeted and set on fire while riding the subway. This heinous act has shocked the community and raised concerns about safety on public transportation.

The NYPD is actively investigating the incident and is urging anyone with information to come forward. They are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure that something like this never happens again.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. We must all come together to condemn acts of violence and work towards creating a safer and more secure environment for everyone.

  • Brooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic preview: Nets begin New Year’s road trip

Brooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic preview: Nets begin New Year’s road trip

Back on the road. The Brooklyn Nets wrapped up the home portion of their 2024 schedule with a loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The Nets begin a three game road trip tonight that will carry them into the New Year.

The opponent today is swamped by injuries, but they’re still fighting. When we look at the Orlando Magic’s injury report, we’ll see a lot of star power there. They took on the New York Knicks on Friday night and ran out of steam after halftime as the Knicks won comfortably.

    Where to follow the game

YES Network on TV. WFAN on radio. Daytime affair so we’re getting started after 3:00 p.m. ET

    Injuries

Bojan Bogdanovic, Trendon Watford, and Ziaire Williams are out. Ben Simmons missed Friday’s game as the second half of a back-to-back. He should be back today. Same for Cam Johnson who missed the game with a hip injury. AND ….Cam Thomas is listed as probable after missing 13 straight.

Franz Wagner, Mo Wagner, and Paolo Banchero are out.

    The game

Orlando won games one, two, and three. This is the last meeting between the two teams this season.

The NBA season is long, and every club gets tested. You learn about yourself in this process and hope that the lessons guide you into a successful future. At Orlando Magic Daily, Philip Rossman-Reich wrote about the team’s resilience and said:

The Magic are down a lot of players and they feel the pressure that comes with that. They feel the margin for error when they make mistakes.

But they also see the resolve they have to overcome them. They see how their effort and intensity makes up for a lot of what they are missing. They see how their defense can still win and give them a chance if they stick with it.

These games now will serve as valuable lessons for the group come postseason time.

The frontcourt for Orlando has been wrecked by injuries, but Goga Bitadze has held things down as best as he can. He’s grabbed at least nine rebounds in nine straight games and has tried to anchor the Magic’s interior. Nic Claxton will look to make things hard on Bitadze inside and try to cash in on close shot attempts on offense. They need him to hit on those three footers if they want to make Orlando respect them on the inside.

Having Cam Johnson back should open up the offense. CJ is taking on new challenges in the offense, and the results are starting to show. Lucas went in depth about it on Friday, and you should check it out! Even in a season where the focus is on the future, there’s a lot to watch and observe in the present.

    Player to watch: Jalen Suggs

When you’re down options one and two on offense, those shots have to go somewhere. For the Magic, they’ve gone to Suggs. Since December 8th, he’s averaged 21 points on 42/30/88 shooting splits. It’s a lot of heavy lifting for Suggs, and after halftime on Friday he only went 3-6 from the field (with no three pointers made) after going 7-of-14 with four threes. It’s a lot to ask of Suggs, but it’s what he’ll have to do until reinforcements arrive.

Cam Thomas is back, and we’ll see how many minutes he plays tonight. Hamstring injuries are always tricky and you never know you’re back to normal until you’re out there. The Nets have historically been conservative with players coming back from injury, so it would be surprising if he played a heavy amount of minutes. At the very least, the Nets get a guard that can create his own shot and give Cam Johnson another good scorer alongside him. The big number for him and the Nets. When CT went down, Brooklyn had the eighth best offense in the NBA. Since then? They’re 29th.

On Friday afternoon, it was announced that broadcaster Greg Gumbel passed away at the age of 78. Let’s take it back to 1997 and relive two of his best NBA calls alongside fellow icons Bill Walton and Steve “Snapper” Jones!

The Brooklyn Nets are set to kick off the new year with a road trip starting with a matchup against the Orlando Magic. The Nets have been on a hot streak as of late, winning eight of their last ten games and currently sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

Led by superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Nets have been a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the court. Their high-powered offense, combined with their improved defense, has made them a formidable team in the league.

On the other hand, the Orlando Magic have been struggling this season, currently sitting near the bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference. However, they have shown flashes of potential with their young core of players like Cole Anthony and Mo Bamba.

The matchup between the Nets and the Magic will be an interesting one to watch, as both teams have something to prove. The Nets will look to continue their winning streak and solidify their position at the top of the standings, while the Magic will be looking to pull off an upset and gain some momentum moving forward.

Overall, this game promises to be an exciting one with high-flying dunks, sharpshooting, and intense defense. Be sure to tune in and catch all the action as the Nets begin their new year’s road trip against the Orlando Magic.

  • Brooklyn Nets, Memphis Grizzlies reportedly talking trade

Brooklyn Nets, Memphis Grizzlies reportedly talking trade

Multiple league sources tell NetsDaily that the Brooklyn Nets and Memphis Grizzlies are talking about a possible trade that would send Dorian Finney-Smith to Memphis for wing John Konchar, shooting guard Luke Kennard and a protected first rounder, possibly in 2026.

It’s uncertain how far along the talks are and the level of protections remain a big issue, said sources. Konchar has three years — including this one — and $18.5 million left on his deal while Kennard’s contract is an expiring at $9.3 million. DFS is currently playing on a $14.9 million contract and has a $15.4 million player option next season which he is expected to decline, making him a likely free agent. Both Konchar and Kennard are 28, Finney-Smith is 31.

Said one source: “They are arguing over protections, but it gets done.”

A second confirmed he had heard the same but without some of specifics. He too suggested that protections on the first rounder are indeed an issue, saying the protections proposed by Memphis would make the pick “unlikely to convey.”

In addition, because Kennard is on a one-year deal, he must approve any trade.

Moving DFS would come less than a month after the Nets traded Dennis Schroder and a protected Heat second rounder in this year’s draft to the Warriors for two point guards, DeAndre Melton who’s out for the season and two-way point Reece Beekman, as well as three unprotected seconds — two from the Hawks in 2026 and a Warriors pick in 2029,

The Nets currently have multiple first rounders in every draft through 2029 except 2026, which like this year’s crop is viewed as top-flight. Overall, Brooklyn has 15 first rounders and 13 second rounders through 2031.

Marc Stein who two days ago suggested that the Nets and Grizzlies could be trade partners confirmed the ND report, adding that Brooklyn would also provide Memphis “second round draft compensation”…

Earlier Saturday, Jake Weinbach tweeted out Memphis’ rationale for the rumored trade…

Konchar, who’s played his entire seven-year career with Memphis, has been troubled by a quadriceps injury and has played only 17 games, averaging 2.8 points, an equal number of rebounds and 1.1 assists. A solid defender, Konchar has career averages of 4.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and shooting splits of 47/36/72.

Kennard, like Konchar 6’5” and like Konchar injured for most the season, has played only six games because of a strained muscle in his foot. When healthy, he is one of the game’s top 3-point shooters, ranking third all-time at 43.9%, behind only Steve Kerr and Hubie Green. For his career, he’s averaged just under 10 points a game, coming off the bench in 305 of his 410 games. Ironically, Memphis traded Ziaire Williams and the Mavs second rounder in 2030 to the Nets in July to free up money to sign Kennard. Both Konchar and Kennard could be traded again this season but only the simplest of transactions, either for another player or a draft pick. Anything more complicated would be prohibited since teams must wait 60 days to include traded players in larger deals and the trade deadline is only 39 days away. Kennard would also retain his veto rights on any subsequent trade.

The big prize would be another first rounder, assuming the reported protection issue can be settled. As Yossi Gozlan of CapSheets.com noted after the NetsDaily report, the Grizz 2026 pick could become valuable under certain circumstances.

DFS would provide immediate relief for the injury-riddled Grizzlies…

Although troubled by injuries himself this season, missing 11 games, DFS is shooting a career best from beyond the arc at 43.5% while averaging a near career high 10.3 points.

If the trade was carried out as reported, Brooklyn would have to cut a player. Melton, as noted, is out for the season.

    ———————————-

In other Nets news, both Cams — Thomas and Johnson — are listed as probable for Sunday’s game vs. the Magic.

Cam Thomas has missed Brooklyn’s last 13 contests due to a left hamstring strain. When Thomas went down, the Nets had the league’s eighth best offense. Since then, they’re ranked 29th. Johnson missed Friday’s game vs. the Spurs with a right hip contusion.

According to recent reports, the Brooklyn Nets and Memphis Grizzlies are in discussions about a potential trade deal. The specifics of the trade are still unclear, but it is believed that both teams are exploring options to improve their rosters.

The Nets, who are currently one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, are looking to bolster their lineup for a deep playoff run. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, are in the midst of a rebuild and could be looking to acquire assets for the future.

It will be interesting to see what players or draft picks are involved in the potential trade and how it will impact both teams moving forward. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.

Game Preview: San Antonio Spurs vs. Brooklyn Nets

There’s something particularly cruel about NBA schedules sometimes. Fresh off a Christmas Day heart-breaker at Madison Square Garden, the Spurs are now being asked to drag their bodies to Brooklyn to face the Nets and yet another New York crowd.

The basketball gods do have a sense of humor though. Victor Wembanyama, still buzzing from a 42-point Garden debut that left New York fans checking their phones to see when the Spurs visit next, gets to match up against Nic Claxton, another impossibly long big man who makes guards reconsider their life choices at the rim.

The contrast should be fascinating: Claxton, the more traditional rim-runner, against Wembanyama, who spent his Christmas launching threes like a 7’4” Steph Curry impersonator.

The Spurs are still searching for consistency in everything except their ability to make games interesting. They’ve shown flashes of brilliance, usually coinciding with Wembanyama doing something that breaks basketball physics, but they’re still learning how to translate those moments into victories.

If the Spurs want to avoid their 2nd three-game losing streak of the season, they’ll need to find answers to some tough questions: Can they keep the flame-throwing Cam Thomas from getting to his spots? Will their defense hold up when Wembanyama sits? Can they avoid the turnover bug that’s bitten them lately?

Of course, as we saw in the Garden, sometimes all those questions become moot when Wembanyama decides to put on a show. And after that display, you can bet a lot of people will be tuning into this one.
