  • Texas Republican Calls for Ilhan Omar To Be Deported

A Texas Republican has called for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a U.S. citizen, to be deported to her home country of Somalia.

“America would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia,” Brandon Gill wrote Tuesday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Newsweek has contacted Omar’s office for comment via email outside of normal office hours.

Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) speaks during a news conference with members of the Congressional Border Security Caucus to introduce the Birthright Citizenship Act at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center on January 23, 2025 in Washington,…

    Why It Matters

President Donald Trump has begun enacting his aggressive deportation program.

Immigration and mass deportations were a key element of Trump’s 2024 campaign and Republicans sweeping to power on a national level.

Americans support the need for immigration reform but disagree about how deportation policies should be carried out.

A poll by The New York Times and Ipsos conducted from January 2 to 10 found that 55 percent of voters strongly or somewhat supported such plans. Eighty-eight percent supported “deporting immigrants who are here illegally and have criminal records.”

    What To Know

Gill, a first-term representative for Texas’s 26th Congressional District, was reacting to a video shared on X on Tuesday, featuring a recent interview between the Minnesota Democrat and a reporter.

About half an hour later, in a separate post, Gill said on X, “We should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country.”

Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, arrived in the U.S. as a refugee in 1995 and became a naturalized citizen in 2000 at the age of 17.

In the video, Omar, the first Somali American congresswoman, explained what undocumented Somalis, or those whose documentation may have expired, should do if questioned by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.

“You are not obligated to answer their questions. Just state that your are advised by a lawyer not to answer questions,” Omar told the reporter. “Disclosure of your name, immigration status, and the mode of entry is not mandatory. Learn the laws and prepare yourself and refrain from disclosing information that you prefer them not to know.”

Omar is embroiled in a war of words with tech billionaire Elon Musk over the legal advice she was offering to undocumented immigrants if they encounter ICE agents.

Last year, a misinterpreted clip of Omar’s speech in Somali sparked intense criticism from conservatives, leading to calls for her deportation. In response, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced a motion to censure Omar, later stating to reporters, “I would love to expel her; I think she should be deported, I honestly do,” over the incorrect translation.

    What People Are Saying

A spokesperson for Brandon Gill said in a statement, “Representative Omar’s conduct raises questions about to whom she is most loyal—the American people or illegal aliens from Somalia. Representative Gill simply stated that it is disgraceful for a sitting Congresswoman and U.S. citizen to facilitate the invasion of our country by illegal alien Somalis.”

Elon Musk said in a post, X: “She is breaking the law. Literally. Outright.”

In response, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar said on X: “Hey Elon Every single person in this country deserves to know their rights. That’s legal. Maybe you should brush up on our laws given the fact you’re breaking them to steal American’s sensitive data. PS. This video is manipulated, and I wasn’t even at the event shown.”

“It just shows you how much he lacks an understanding of what the laws of the country are,” Omar said on Tuesday on CNN News Central when asked about Musk’s post.

    What Happens Next

The dispute highlights the deep divisions in U.S. politics over immigration, as Republicans look to enact Trump’s hardline immigration agenda while progressives regroup and plot to oppose his agenda.

In a recent controversial statement, a Texas Republican has called for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to be deported from the United States. The representative, who has not been named, cited Omar’s past controversial statements and actions as reasons for her removal from the country.

Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration and has been the target of numerous attacks from conservative politicians and media outlets. The Texas Republican’s call for her deportation has sparked outrage from many who see it as a blatant attempt to silence a prominent Muslim woman of color.

Critics of the Texas Republican’s statement argue that it is a dangerous and xenophobic move that goes against the principles of free speech and democracy. They point out that Omar is a naturalized citizen of the United States and has the right to express her opinions, even if they are unpopular.

The controversy surrounding this call for deportation is likely to continue as the political divide in the country deepens. It serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle for tolerance and acceptance in American society.

  • Roger Goodell Calls Out ‘Ridiculous Theory’ About NFL Refs Favoring Chiefs | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - FEBRUARY 03: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell speaks during a press conference ahead of the Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome on February 03, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images)

    Chris Graythen/Getty Images

As the Kansas City Chiefs gear up for their third straight Super Bowl appearance on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, they’re still facing detractors who believe they reached this point because they get favorable calls from officials.

“It reminds me of the script, that I write a script for the entire season… It’s a ridiculous theory, for anyone who might take it seriously,” Goodell said.

Goodell added that the league is constantly exploring ways to improve its officiating and may add ways to review plays, such as facemask penalties, going forward.

“I’m proud of what they do, but that doesn’t mean we’re not trying to get better,” Goodell told reporters.

When asked if there would be a penalty for players like Kansas City star quarterback Patrick Mahomes flopping to draw penalties, Goodell said he doesn’t view that as a significant issue, but he wouldn’t be surprised if the competition committee discussed it in the future.

The Chiefs’ 15-2 finish to the 2024 season wasn’t without its hardships. Many wins came down to the last minute, as Kansas City was fortunate to have some calls go their way. Of course, that didn’t help the perception that the back-to-back reigning Super Bowl champions were being gifted the opportunity to achieve the first three-peat in modern NFL history.

For example, in the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills, star quarterback Josh Allen was ruled short on a crucial fourth-down play despite appearing to have picked up the first down. The play swung the momentum in the Chiefs’ favor, helping them secure a 32-29 win. Unsurprisingly, the controversial play was one of the biggest talking points after the game.

Fans will certainly be paying close attention to Sunday’s Big Game, as the Eagles will be the last to try their hands at knocking the Chiefs from their perch. Any questionable plays that work in Kansas City’s favor will certainly be under a microscope following the Super Bowl.

In a recent press conference, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the growing speculation that NFL referees are favoring the Kansas City Chiefs in their games. Goodell called the theory “ridiculous” and stated that the league takes the integrity of the game very seriously.

Goodell went on to explain that all NFL referees are held to the highest standards and are trained to make unbiased and fair calls during games. He emphasized that any accusations of favoritism towards a particular team are not only unfounded but also damaging to the reputation of the league.

The controversy surrounding the alleged favoritism towards the Chiefs has been fueled by several close calls and controversial decisions in their recent games. However, Goodell stressed that these incidents are simply part of the game and should not be taken as evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of the officials.

As the Chiefs continue their quest for another Super Bowl title, it is clear that the spotlight will remain on both the team and the referees. But according to Goodell, fans can rest assured that the NFL is committed to ensuring that every game is officiated fairly and without bias.

  • Mark Messier Wrongfully Calls For Connor Bedard To Be Benched

Connor Bedard is playing very well for a teenager on a lousy team. Very few have ever produced at his pace at his age yet it doesn’t seem to be enough for some commenters, even if the commenter is a pro Hockey Hall of Famer.

During the first intermission of Saturday afternoon’s match between the Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers, Mark Messier ripped on Anders Sorensen for putting Bedard out there on a power play after Sam Reinhart beat him on a goal.

Bedard lost a stick battle with Reinhart which led to him giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead. The thing about Reinhart is that he now has 30 goals on the season. Only Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers and Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets have more.

Messier talked about it destroying the morale of the team if you don’t earn your ice time as if Bedard doesn’t lead the team in scoring by 11 points. Not putting the leading scorer out on the power play is more likely to destroy the morale of a team.

Lots of people lose battles to Reinhart because he’s an elite goal scorer. Bedard wasn’t the first and he won’t be the last. It’s also not the last mistake he’ll ever make considering he’s a teenager (even veterans make mistakes).

Does Bedard have work to do defensively to round out his game? Absolutely. Most teenage forwards who are good enough to play in the NHL can say that. Do the Blackhawks need to bench their best offensive weapon (by far) on a power play because he lost a stick battle to a guy who had 60 goals last year? That would be a fireable offense.

Mark Messier was a great player who led by example on the ice, created a ton of offense, and won tons of Stanley Cup championships. With that said, he doesn’t have an understanding of how things go in today’s locker rooms.

The dynamics that existed in the 80s and 90s have changed. To say that Bedard hasn’t earned his ice time is an incorrect statement. He’s more than earned it.

You never bench Bedard. You celebrate his greatness while working on his weaknesses. He is going to be an elite player in the NHL for a long time.

In a shocking turn of events, hockey legend Mark Messier has called for young phenom Connor Bedard to be benched. Despite Bedard’s incredible skill and potential, Messier believes that the 17-year-old forward is not living up to expectations and needs to be held accountable for his performance.

Many fans and analysts have expressed outrage over Messier’s comments, arguing that Bedard is still developing as a player and should be given time to grow and improve. Bedard has already shown flashes of brilliance on the ice, leading his team in scoring and earning praise from coaches and teammates.

It remains to be seen how Bedard and his team will respond to Messier’s controversial remarks. Will this criticism motivate Bedard to step up his game, or will it shake his confidence and hinder his progress? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – this call for Bedard to be benched has sparked a heated debate among hockey fans everywhere.

  • As President Trump calls for mass deportations, Pittsburgh area schools scramble to clarify their policies

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – With President Trump calling for the largest mass deportation in the country’s history; it has some concerned about sending their children to school.

What are schools required to do and how are they planning to deal with this situation?

According to school districts, it’s their own policies they have to create on handling these situations if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is to come to a school. While there is some ambiguity with the districts, there are some standards they are required to follow.

According to information from the U.S. Department of Education, Justice, and Health and Human Services, districts can’t ask students about their immigration status.

“Our focus is protecting the students, protecting their records, and making sure they are safe in school,” Pittsburgh Public Schools solicitor Ira Weiss said.

He said school leaders have sent out memos to staff addressing if ICE comes to a school. It would include building administrators handling it. Any visit from ICE would need to be with a warrant. To this point, there’s been no raids at schools.

“We’ve had anecdotal reports of ICE vehicles being in certain neighborhoods,” Weiss said.

Other districts echo this. Belle Vernon sent out a memo telling staff that building administrators are to be contacted immediately. It adds that no one should interfere with any ICE activities, but they are not to share any student information.

Aliquippa is more of the same. Unless there is a valid warrant signed by a judge or an emergency, law enforcement including ICE can’t come into schools.

“This is a day-to-day situation, and we follow the announcements closely,” Weiss said.

According to Pittsburgh Public, their data doesn’t suggest there has been a chilling effect on attendance. They will have a better idea over the next few weeks.

In light of President Trump’s recent call for mass deportations, Pittsburgh area schools are scrambling to clarify their policies regarding the immigration status of their students.

Many school districts in the Pittsburgh area have released statements reassuring students and families that they do not inquire about immigration status and that all students are welcome regardless of their background. However, the fear and uncertainty surrounding the current political climate has left many families feeling anxious and unsure about what the future holds for their children.

School officials are working to provide support and resources for students and families who may be affected by the threat of deportation. This includes working with local organizations to provide legal assistance, counseling services, and other forms of support.

As tensions continue to rise, it is important for schools to remain a safe and welcoming environment for all students, regardless of their immigration status. Pittsburgh area schools are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive community for all of their students, and will continue to work to ensure that every child has access to a quality education, regardless of their background.

Tems has called off her Born in the Wild tour stop in Kigali, Rwanda, originally scheduled for 22 March 2025. The Grammy-winning singer and 2025 nominee made the announcement after learning about the ongoing conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Tems apologised for promoting the show without knowing the situation, making it clear that she never intended to be insensitive.

So I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realising that there is ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never ever intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologize if this came across that way. I simply had no idea this was going on. My heart goes out to those affected. Conflict is no joke and I truly hope and pray for peace in this time.

The Kigali concert was part of her global tour supporting Born In the Wild,” her 2024 debut album. Over the past year, Tems has taken the album to fans across the world, performing in London, Paris, Norway, Germany, the US, Canada, and Australia.

Last year, after the release of her album, Tems went on a world tour, perfoming in different continenet and countries, incuding London, Paris, Norway, Germany, the USA, and Canada and Austarialia.

Nigerian singer Tems has announced the cancellation of her upcoming concert in Kigali, Rwanda, following reports of tensions between Rwanda and neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo. The singer, known for hits like “Try Me” and “Damages,” was scheduled to perform in Kigali on October 15th, but decided to call off the show in light of the current political situation.

In a statement released on social media, Tems expressed her regret at having to cancel the concert, but emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of her fans and crew. She also reassured her Rwandan fans that she is committed to rescheduling the concert at a later date, once the tensions have eased and it is safe to do so.

Tensions between Rwanda and Congo have been escalating in recent weeks, with reports of border skirmishes and diplomatic tensions between the two countries. The situation is fluid and unpredictable, and many artists and performers are choosing to err on the side of caution by canceling or postponing events in the region.

Fans of Tems in Rwanda and around the world have expressed their support for the singer’s decision, with many praising her for putting safety first. While it may be disappointing for fans to miss out on the concert, it is important to prioritize safety and security in times of uncertainty. Tems’ decision to cancel the Kigali concert is a reminder that the safety and well-being of fans and performers should always come first.

  • Trump tariffs booed in Canada as Trudeau calls for national unity

    Nadine Yousif

    BBC News, Toronto

Reuters Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is joined by Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Joly, and Minister of Public Safety David McGuinty, as he speaks during a press conference while responding to U.S. President Donald Trump's orders to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian imports, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada February 1, 2025.Reuters

A few hours after US President Donald Trump announced that he would impose steep tariffs on Canada, hockey fans in the capital Ottawa booed the Star-Spangled Banner during a National Hockey League game against a visiting US team.

On Sunday, during a National Basketball League game between the Toronto Raptors and the Los Angeles Clippers, it happened again, continuing throughout the song and almost drowning out the 15-year-old’s singer’s arena performance.

The vocal displeasure from usually respectful fans is a clear sign of Canadians’ deep dismay at Trump’s move to hit its nearest ally with punitive taxes, a move that threatens to spark an unprecedented trade war on the North American continent.

The 25% tariffs imposed by Trump on all Canadian imports into the US – with a lower 10% levy on energy – are set to take effect on Tuesday.

And they come as President Trump doubles down on his push – no longer dismissed as a joke – for Canada to join America and become the 51st state.

While many economists project the tariffs will also drive up costs for Americans on everyday essentials, from gas to groceries, Canada is the more exposed trade partner. If they last for months, the country could tip into a painful economic recession.

Anger is building – and with it, a desire to mount a fightback that has been echoed by political leaders in the country of 40 million.

“Many among us will be affected by this, and we will have some hard times. I ask you to be there for each other,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a Saturday evening address. “Now is the time to choose Canada.”

Some Canadians have already heeded the calls for solidarity. On social media, guides are circulating on how to avoid American-made products at the grocery store.

Others are posting about cancelling travel plans to the US, or boycotting the country all together.

In some Canadian provinces – namely Ontario, the largest by population – American booze will be pulled off the shelves indefinitely starting on Tuesday.

This is in addition to a total of C$155bn ($105bn; £86bn) of American goods that Canada has said it will tariff in retaliation, including vegetables, clothing, sports equipment, perfume and other items. Goods originating from Republican-led states, like Florida orange juice, are specifically being targeted.

The US imports more of its oil from Canada than any other country, and Trudeau’s government has signalled “all options remain on the table” for further retaliation.

    A ‘destabilising’ moment for Canada

Trump’s follow-through on his threat of steep tariffs – which were long speculated to be a negotiation tactic to get concessions on border security – have bewildered Canadians, who have enjoyed close economic, social and security ties to the US for decades.

“It’s a shock,” Michael Ignatieff, the former leader of Canada’s Liberal Party, told the BBC.

“We’re into a new world, in which the question on whether you can trust America becomes the fundamental question in foreign policy for every country.”

Pierre Poilievre, leader of Canada’s opposition Conservative Party, called the tariffs on Sunday “massive, unjust and unjustified.”

“Canada is the United States’ closest neighbour, greatest ally and best friend,” he said, noting that Canada fought alongside the US in two world wars, as well as in Korea and Afghanistan. “There is no justification whatsoever for this treatment.”

Prime Minister Trudeau questioned in his Saturday address why the US would target Canada instead of looking to “more challenging parts” of the world.

A portion of his speech was directly addressed to Americans, and he too, pointed to a history of shared bloodshed. “We have fought, and died, alongside you,” Trudeau said.

Thomas Juneau, a professor at the University of Ottawa with a focus on national security, told the BBC that Trump’s tariffs “undoubtedly represent an earthquake in Canada-US relations.”

“This is extremely destabilising for Canada,” Prof Juneau said. “As a country, we have massively benefited from our extremely close trade and security partnership with the US for decades.”

While the trade battle would likely force Canada to look for partners elsewhere, it ultimately can’t escape geography, he said. It will remain reliant on the economic superpower next door.

“That is why Canada must absolutely now focus on salvaging the relationship as much as possible,” Prof Juneau said.

    An unclear, costly fight ahead

The big unknown remains how long the US will keep the tariffs in place, and what steps Canada could take to appease the Trump administration, which has said it expects action on cross-border fentanyl trafficking and illegal migration.

TD Economics projects that the longer the tariffs remain in place, the worse the impact will be. Canada could enter a recession in five to six months, and its unemployment rate could hit more than 7%.

Theo Argitis, managing director of the Ottawa-based public affairs firm Compass Rose Group, said the unknowns had left Canada no choice “but to hit (Trump) back hard.”

“At the end of the day, we don’t even really know why he’s doing this,” Mr Argitis told the BBC.

Trump says the flow of fentanyl, a highly potent and deadly drug, into the US from Canada and Mexico, is one key reason. US officials say the levies will remain in place “until the crisis is alleviated.”

In response, the Canadian government has noted that less than 1% of fentanyl and illegal border crossings into the US come from Canada. It has offered to spend an additional C$1.3bn to secure the US-Canada border

But Trump has also spoken publicly about his frustration with the trade deficit between Canada and the US, and more broadly his view that tariffs could be a source of revenue for Washington’s coffers.

On Sunday, he wrote on Truth Social that the US does not need Canadian products, and said the US pays “hundreds of billions of dollars to subsidize Canada.”

“Without this massive subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable country,” Trump wrote, before repeating his view that Canada should instead become a US state.

He has warned that the White House will enact harsher penalties on Canada should it choose to retaliate. For now, Canada has chosen to try and inflict some targeted pain on its more powerful neighbour, even if the economic scales are tipped against it.

“We prefer to solve our disputes with diplomacy,” Trudeau told his country on Saturday. “But we are ready to fight when necessary.”

As tensions rise between the United States and Canada over President Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called for national unity in response to the controversial measures. At a recent town hall event in Ottawa, Trudeau was met with cheers as he defended Canada’s trade policies and criticized the Trump administration’s decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

Trudeau’s remarks come as Canada prepares to retaliate with its own tariffs on American products, escalating a trade war that has strained relations between the two neighboring countries. The prime minister urged Canadians to stand together in the face of adversity and to support their government’s efforts to protect Canadian industries from unfair trade practices.

Meanwhile, Trump’s tariffs have been met with widespread criticism in Canada, with many Canadians expressing their disapproval of the measures. At a recent hockey game in Ottawa, fans booed as a video highlighting the impact of the tariffs on Canadian jobs and industries was played on the jumbotron.

As the trade dispute between the United States and Canada continues to escalate, Trudeau’s call for national unity has struck a chord with many Canadians who are concerned about the potential economic repercussions of the tariffs. With tensions running high, it remains to be seen how the two countries will navigate their increasingly strained relationship in the coming months.

  • The Evolution of Help Desk Support: From Phone Calls to Chatbots

The Evolution of Help Desk Support: From Phone Calls to Chatbots

As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, the way businesses provide customer support has also evolved. One of the most significant changes in recent years has been the shift from traditional phone-based help desk support to more modern solutions, such as chatbots.

In the past, when customers had a question or issue with a product or service, they would typically call a support hotline and speak with a live agent. While this method was effective in providing personalized assistance, it often led to long wait times and frustration for customers.

To address these issues, many companies began implementing online chat support systems, allowing customers to communicate with agents in real-time through a chat window on their website. This provided a more convenient and efficient way for customers to get the help they needed, without having to wait on hold or navigate through a complex phone menu.

However, even chat support systems have their limitations. They require human agents to be available to respond to customer inquiries, which can be costly and time-consuming for businesses. This is where chatbots come into play.

Chatbots are software programs that use artificial intelligence to interact with customers and provide automated responses to their questions. They can be integrated into websites, messaging apps, and social media platforms, allowing businesses to provide 24/7 support without the need for human intervention.

Chatbots have revolutionized the way companies provide customer support by offering instant responses, personalized recommendations, and quick solutions to common problems. They can handle a wide range of inquiries, from simple troubleshooting to complex technical issues, all while providing a seamless and efficient user experience.

In addition to improving customer satisfaction, chatbots also offer several benefits for businesses. They can help reduce support costs, increase productivity, and streamline the customer service process. By automating repetitive tasks and handling routine inquiries, chatbots free up human agents to focus on more complex issues and provide higher-level support.

As technology continues to advance, the role of chatbots in customer support is only expected to grow. With advancements in natural language processing and machine learning, chatbots are becoming increasingly sophisticated and capable of handling more complex interactions.

The evolution of help desk support from phone calls to chatbots represents a shift towards a more efficient and customer-centric approach to customer service. By embracing this technology, businesses can provide faster, more personalized support to their customers, ultimately improving satisfaction and loyalty. So, if you haven’t already, it may be time to consider integrating chatbots into your customer support strategy.

The Evolution of Technical Support: From Phone Calls to Remote Assistance

Technical support has come a long way since its inception, evolving from simple phone calls to sophisticated remote assistance tools that allow for faster and more efficient problem-solving. The evolution of technical support has been driven by advancements in technology, as well as the increasing demand for quick and reliable support services.

In the early days of technical support, customers would typically call a help desk and speak to a technician over the phone. The technician would then guide the customer through troubleshooting steps to resolve their issue. While this method was effective to some extent, it often led to long wait times and frustration for customers who were unable to resolve their issues over the phone.

As technology continued to advance, remote assistance tools such as TeamViewer and LogMeIn were introduced, allowing technicians to remotely access a customer’s computer to diagnose and fix problems. This revolutionized the technical support industry, as it allowed for quicker and more efficient problem-solving without the need for customers to explain their issues over the phone.

Remote assistance tools have also enabled technical support teams to provide support to customers around the world, regardless of their location. This has been particularly beneficial for companies with a global customer base, as it allows for seamless support services regardless of time zones and language barriers.

Another significant development in technical support is the use of chatbots and artificial intelligence to provide instant support to customers. Chatbots can answer common technical questions and provide troubleshooting tips, freeing up human technicians to focus on more complex issues. This has helped to streamline the technical support process and improve overall customer satisfaction.

Overall, the evolution of technical support from phone calls to remote assistance has greatly improved the customer experience and made it easier for companies to provide efficient support services. As technology continues to advance, we can expect even more innovations in technical support that will further enhance the customer experience and streamline the problem-solving process.

  • Bill Maher Calls China the ‘New Islam,’ Says Left ‘Can’t Be Honest About Them Because They’re Not White’

Bill Maher called China the “new Islam” and accused the left of not being “honest” about their threat “because they’re not white.”

During a panel discussion on Friday’s Real Time , Maher brought up China’s advancements in AI, noting the China startup DeepSeek has emerged as a major rival to US companies recently. The comedian compared the race between the United States and China on the technology front to the space race between the US and Russia.

    He said:

“Sputnik is at the beginning of the space race in the late 50s. There were Russians. We thought we were going to beat them to the moon. And Russians put up some satellite. I forget what it was. It was Sputnik. Sputnik one. And then suddenly we were like, fuck, they could beat us. And now we are doing this. We are at that moment. That’s why they’re calling it a Sputnik moment with AI. We thought we were way ahead of China.”

Maher also noted former FBI Director Christopher Wray has recently warned of cyberattacks by China on critical US infrastructure.

Maher called China “kind of an evil empire” and said liberals are unwilling to treat them as such being they “make everything about race.”

“I mean, we couldn’t look into the origins of COVID being from the lab, which now the CIA, this week, has joined the FBI and many other organizations saying it probably did come from a lab. I said it from the beginning. It’s being studied in this lab where it breaks out. Really? We’re gonna even wonder about this?” he said, going on to cite a New York Times reporter calling Covid lab leak theories potentially racist and not plausible.

Maher declared China is “the new Islam” in that people are too hesitant to criticize out of fear for how they’ll be perceived.

“China’s like the new Islam. We can’t be honest about them because they’re not white,” he said. “And China, okay, I’m sorry, kids, they do some bad things, China. And we should just recognize that.”

In a recent episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the outspoken comedian and political commentator Bill Maher made controversial remarks about China, comparing the country to Islam and criticizing the left for not being honest about the country due to its non-white status.

During the segment, Maher discussed the Chinese government’s crackdown on democracy activists in Hong Kong and their treatment of the Uighur Muslim minority in Xinjiang. He referred to China as the “new Islam,” suggesting that the country’s authoritarian regime and human rights abuses were being overlooked by the left because they are not white.

Maher’s comments sparked backlash from some viewers and social media users, with many accusing him of perpetuating racist stereotypes and oversimplifying complex geopolitical issues. Others defended Maher, arguing that he was simply pointing out the hypocrisy of the left in their criticism of certain countries over others.

Regardless of one’s stance on Maher’s remarks, it is clear that his comments have once again stirred up debate and controversy, highlighting the complexities of navigating political discourse in an increasingly polarized world.
