  • Netflix Denies American A-List Cameo In ‘Squid Game’ Season 3

Netflix Denies American A-List Cameo In ‘Squid Game’ Season 3

For a brief moment, there was a report from Korea’s OSEN claiming inside knowledge that a specific A-list star would be heading to Squid Game season 3 for a cameo role.

That star was none other than Leonardo DiCaprio, about as A-list as you can get. However, Netflix came out to shut this down almost as soon as it started to spread, calling it “entirely unfounded.”

This idea was not quite as random as it seemed, as back in 2021, lead actor Lee Jung-jae met DiCaprio at a gala, and then when asked during a different event later, said that DiCaprio was the actor he’d want to see in season 2 of the show. DiCaprio is a big name, but Squid Game is the biggest show on planet earth, so it’s not that crazy. DiCaprio also has an existing relationship with Netflix, having starred in its comedy Don’t Look Up in 2021.

Netflix could be smokescreening here, but it seems like a pretty definitive no. When this was first flying around, the idea was that DiCaprio would appear as one of the infamous VIPs in the series, the Western, mask-wearing patrons that wager on the Squid Games, a group that Lee Jung-jae’s 456 is attempt to reach and kill in season 3. It would have actually been pretty funny if DiCaprio was one, but hidden behind a mask so it wasn’t a full cameo, and perhaps a bit less distracting if say…Leonardo DiCaprio’s face was suddenly on the screen.

Back in season 1, the appearance of the VIPs was controversial due to just how awful their appearance was compared to the rest of the show with weird dialogue and line readings. It was so bad that later some of the actors had to come out and explain what exactly happened here. I wrote this up back in 2021, when VIP actor John D. Michaels explained:

“It’s different for every show, but non-Korean performers often act with dialogue that is translated by a non-native – sometimes even by Google Translate – so it can sound unnatural,” he said.

The other problem was the set-up for most of the VIP’s lines:

“We were all wearing very heavy plaster masks, and sitting on couches that were at least 20-30 feet away from the closest VIP. We all had to yell our lines vaguely into the air, which added to the weird tonality of the delivery.”

Given how much pushback there was about the season 1 VIPs, it seems like Squid Game is much more likely to handle them better this time around, as we know they’re obviously going to make another appearance by the time things are said and done, with season 3 being the conclusion of the story. And I would expect a lot of them to end up dead, DiCaprio not withstanding.

Rumors have been swirling around the internet that a major American A-list celebrity would be making a cameo in the highly anticipated third season of the hit Netflix series ‘Squid Game.’ However, Netflix has officially denied these claims, putting an end to the speculation.

Fans of the show had been buzzing with excitement at the possibility of seeing a big name star join the cast of ‘Squid Game,’ but it seems that those hopes have been dashed. Netflix released a statement saying, “Contrary to recent reports, there are no plans for an American A-list celebrity to make a cameo in ‘Squid Game’ season 3. We are thrilled with the talented cast we have assembled for the upcoming season and can’t wait for audiences to see what we have in store.”

While it may be disappointing news for some fans, the denial from Netflix only adds to the mystery and intrigue surrounding the upcoming season of ‘Squid Game.’ With its record-breaking success and worldwide popularity, there’s no doubt that fans will be eagerly awaiting any news and updates on the show.

Stay tuned for more updates on ‘Squid Game’ season 3 as they become available!

  • Andrew Garfield says he hasn’t signed on for ‘Spider-Man 4,’ despite previously lying about cameo in third movie

Andrew Garfield says he hasn’t signed on for ‘Spider-Man 4,’ despite previously lying about cameo in third movie

    CNN
     —

Andrew Garfield is setting the record straight… sort of.

The “We Live in Time” actor recently clarified some ongoing speculation that he’s signed on for the fourth installment of Marvel’s Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” franchise, telling GQ UK in an interview published Thursday that it’s simply not true.

“I’m gonna disappoint you,” he said. “Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”

Garfield was referring to the fact that he spent an entire year denying his involvement in Holland’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” movie in 2021, wherein he did indeed end up making a surprise cameo.

In “No Way Home,” Garfield appeared as his iteration of the superhero Spider-Man – who he played in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” and 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” – alongside another fellow Spidey actor, Tobey Maguire, who proceeded Garfield in the role in a trilogy of movies in the aughts.

Garfield’s and Maguire’s appearances in the 2021 MCU film were met with much enthusiasm from the “Spider-Man” fandom and beyond, making “No Way Home” the top-grossing film of that year.

Garfield has recently said that he’d “100 percent come back” to reprise his role, telling Esquire in October that he’d return “if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into.”

The actor also told GQ UK in Thursday’s interview that even if he doesn’t return as the web-slinging hero, he’s open to doing another large-scale franchise.

“If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun,” he said. “Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.”

Andrew Garfield recently made headlines when he revealed that he has not signed on for a fourth Spider-Man movie, despite previously lying about a cameo in the third installment. The actor, who played the iconic superhero in The Amazing Spider-Man series, admitted that he had misled fans about his involvement in the third movie to keep the surprise under wraps.

In a recent interview, Garfield explained that while he would love to reprise his role as Spider-Man, there are currently no plans for him to do so. He also expressed his excitement for the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will feature multiple versions of the character played by different actors.

Fans were quick to react to Garfield’s comments, with many speculating about the possibility of a future Spider-Man movie featuring all three actors who have portrayed the character in the past. While nothing has been confirmed yet, Garfield’s revelation has certainly sparked new interest and speculation among fans of the iconic superhero.

Stay tuned for more updates on Andrew Garfield and the future of the Spider-Man franchise.

Jerry Seinfeld Was Terrified By One Cameo In Seinfeld

Seinfeld” had plenty of guest stars during its nine-season run. While many of them managed to antagonize the main characters in-universe, a select few actually got on the real-life Jerry Seinfeld‘s nerves. Arguably the most famous example is Seinfeld’s feud with the real-life “Soup Nazi,” but that was about the character’s inspiration — noted soup chef Ali Yeganeh of Soup Kitchen International — being affronted by Seinfeld’s version instead of anything Larry Thomas (who played the fictional Yev “Soup Nazi” Kassem) did. However, one particular star’s cameo managed to get right up in Seinfeld’s face … literally.

In the “Seinfeld” season 5 two-parter “The Raincoats,” Judge Reinhold memorably plays Aaron, Elaine’s latest boyfriend who has an unfortunate penchant for standing really close to people when he’s talking. During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Reinhold revealed that when they rehearsed the scene, he couldn’t happen but notice that people seemed…

In a recent interview, Jerry Seinfeld revealed that he was terrified by one particular cameo appearance on his hit sitcom, Seinfeld. The comedian admitted that he was completely caught off guard by the unexpected guest star and found himself feeling incredibly nervous during the scene.

The cameo in question was none other than legendary actor and comedian, Robin Williams. Seinfeld explained that Williams’ improv skills and larger-than-life personality made him a force to be reckoned with on set. The two comedic icons shared a memorable scene together, but Seinfeld couldn’t help but feel intimidated by Williams’ quick wit and unpredictable antics.

Despite his initial nerves, Seinfeld ultimately had a great time working with Williams and praised his talent and energy. The cameo turned out to be a memorable moment in Seinfeld history, showcasing the comedic chemistry between two of the biggest names in showbiz.

Fans of the show can now look back on that iconic cameo with a newfound appreciation for the behind-the-scenes nerves that Seinfeld experienced. It just goes to show that even seasoned professionals like Jerry Seinfeld can be taken by surprise when faced with a comedy legend like Robin Williams.

  • Jerry Seinfeld Was Terrified By Judge Reinhold’s Close Talker Cameo In Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld Was Terrified By Judge Reinhold’s Close Talker Cameo In Seinfeld

“Seinfeld” had plenty of guest stars during its nine-season run. While many of them managed to antagonize the main characters in-universe, a select few actually got on the real-life Jerry Seinfeld’s nerves.

During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Reinhold revealed that when they rehearsed the scene, he couldn’t happen but notice that people seemed to be having a suspiciously fun time when he was interacting with Seinfeld. This is because they, unlike Reinhold at the time, knew that the scene genuinely creeped the star out. Here’s how Reinhold explained the situation:

“When I get to Jerry, I’m the closest, and then the crew was laughing in a way that it seemed like something was going on. And so we broke for lunch or whatever and I said: ‘Why are you guys laughing so hard when I get to Jerry?” And they said because he’s such a germaphobe, he’s terrified of what you’re doing.”

Reinhold embraced the awkwardness as Aaron the close talker

As anyone who’s seen the episode knows all too well, the information that Jerry Seinfeld was genuinely unnerved by his character’s close-talking tic didn’t deter Judge Reinhold in any way. In fact, as he was quick to mention in the interview, he somehow found a way to get even closer to the show’s star when they actually shot the scene, ensuring that Seinfeld’s mortified expression didn’t require acting:

“So, of course, by the time it got to camera, I was almost touching his nose. I mean, our nose hairs were almost touching. I know he was so uncomfortable. If you see it again, you’ll see he’s just crawling in his skin.”

Many “Seinfeld” cameos have interesting stories behind them. Philip Baker Hall said his life changed after playing Lt. Joe Bookman, the library cop in the “Seinfeld” season 3 standout, “The Library.” At the other end of the spectrum, Bob Odenkirk had never even seen “Seinfeld” when he agreed to play Elaine’s hapless med student boyfriend Ben in the season 8 episode “The Abstinence.” However, Reinhold alone can say that he spent a considerable portion of his appearance on the legendary sitcom in Jerry Seinfeld’s personal space.

In a recent interview, Jerry Seinfeld revealed that he was absolutely terrified by Judge Reinhold’s cameo as the Close Talker in an episode of Seinfeld. Seinfeld, known for his witty humor and quick thinking, admitted that he was caught off guard by Reinhold’s intense portrayal of the character.

“I couldn’t believe how close he was getting to me,” Seinfeld said. “I mean, I’ve dealt with some pretty eccentric characters on the show, but Judge Reinhold really took it to the next level.”

The Close Talker episode, which aired in the sixth season of Seinfeld, follows the character of Elaine Benes as she struggles to deal with a man who invades her personal space by standing too close to her when he speaks. The episode is a fan favorite for its hilarious portrayal of social awkwardness and boundary issues.

Seinfeld went on to praise Reinhold for his commitment to the role, saying, “I have to give him credit, he really committed to the character. But I have to admit, I was a little relieved when filming wrapped up and I could finally take a step back.”

Despite his initial fear, Seinfeld has since come to appreciate Reinhold’s performance and the comedic value it added to the show. The Close Talker episode remains a memorable moment in the Seinfeld series, showcasing the talents of both Seinfeld and Reinhold.

  • Marvel May Have Just Ruled Out A Huge MCU Cameo

Marvel May Have Just Ruled Out A Huge MCU Cameo

Marvel’s What If has introduced us to countless versions of old heroes, but the series hasn’t been shy about playing favorites: across its three seasons, one particular variant has played a larger role than the rest. Captain Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) was the first hero to get a major makeover in What If, going from Captain America’s steely love interest to a super soldier in her own right. Her adventures have brought her beyond the physical plane, face to face with Uatu the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright), and even into live-action with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Captain Carter is by far the biggest success of What If, as she’s one of the series’ large cast to make the jump to the MCU proper. With Atwell joining the cast of the latest Avengers movie, many assumed that her variant would continue to play a major role in Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. Avengers: Doomsday could do what Doctor Strange couldn’t, and give the character a more worthwhile story in live-action. But as much as she deserves the spotlight, her latest What If appearance is already casting doubt on that theory; in fact, it may have removed her from the multiverse altogether.

Spoilers ahead for What If Season 3 Episode 8.

What If Season 3 brings its conflict to a new dimension.

    Marvel Studios

What If’s Season 3 finale is a two-parter, following Uatu as he answers for his “crime” of meddling with the multiverse. He’s pulled from his post and brought before a council of other Watchers: the Executioner (Darin De Paul), The Incarnate (DC Douglas), and The Eminence (Jason Isaacs). Peggy and her team, comprised of Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith), Kahhori (Devery Jacobs), and Byrdie (Natasha Lyonne), launch a daring mission into the Fifth Dimension to save him. Uatu even imbues them with the power of the Watchers to battle the council.

In the end, though, the council remains too strong. They attempt to wipe every version of our heroes from the multiverse itself, and nearly succeed. Uatu and his allies only survive thanks to Peggy’s heroic sacrifice; she launches herself at the council and seems to take the brunt of their attack. When the dust settles, Storm, Kahhori, Byrdie, and all their variants remain. Captain Carter, however, is gone, as is every other version of her that’s ever existed.

Carter sacrificed herself to protect Uatu and her allies. What’s next?

    Marvel Studios

Though parts of What If have crossed over into live-action and informed events in the Sacred Timeline, Peggy’s destruction is the first development that echoes in every Marvel universe. The Council of Watchers just erased her from any timeline she’d ever touched, and even erased the memory of her from the lives of those who knew her. It’s like Doctor Strange’s spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but on a multiversal scale; though Uatu swears he can still feel someone “watching over” him, implying that Peggy’s spirit somehow persisted.

What does this mean for the future of the MCU? Are Peggy and all her variants actually gone, or has she become one with the multiverse itself, similar to Loki’s ascension in Loki Season 2? As Uatu explains at the end of Episode 8, life goes on throughout the multiverse, paving the way for newer, weirder variants of characters we know and love to eventually appear. There’s a sense that Peggy has become a sort of Watcher herself, one that’s somehow even more powerful (and distant) than Uatu and his elders. What If has definitely ruled out most chances of Captain Carter returning to live-action, but Marvel may have much bigger plans for the character.

When Atwell appears in Doomsday, will it be as an astral, all-knowing version of Peggy? Will she find a way to return to the material plane? Time will tell, but What If just made the future of the multiverse much more interesting.

What If…? Season 3 is streaming on Disney+.

Recently, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted at the possibility of a major cameo in the upcoming MCU films. Many fans speculated that this cameo could be a beloved character from the Marvel comics making their debut in the cinematic universe.

Melissa McCarthy’s Hysterical SNL Cameo Is Her First Since 2018

Melissa McCarthy is an undeniable Saturday Night Live MVP. The five-time Host nabbed an Emmy nomination for her October 2011 debut, going on to earn four more noms for each of her subsequent returns and winning in 2017 (the same year she portrayed then-White House press secretary Sean Spicer). She’s killed on the Studio 8H stage many times over, but hadn’t been back since 2018 — until Martin Short‘s December 21 Christmas episode, when she appeared in the cold open and two sketches.

    How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and Peacock, streaming next day on Peacock.

When McCarthy showed up at the tail end of the “Parking Lot Altercation” sketch, her signature commitment to the role had the audience howling with laughter (cast member Chloe Fineman could barely keep it together herself).

RELATED: SNL’s “Outside the Lines” Sketch Is a Melissa McCarthy Master Class

Melissa McCarthy’s antics in SNL’s “Parking Lot Altercation” had Chloe Fineman breaking

In “Parking Lot Altercation,” Mikey Day and Chloe Fineman play a father and daughter on a last-minute Christmas shopping excursion. When they pull up to a mall parking space, they come head-to-head with another stressed out shopper (Martin Short).

An epic pantomime-off ensues between the father and the other driver, as Day’s skills were matched by Short’s larger-than-life facial expressions and gestures (Fineman’s teen daughter character periodically interjects, offering obscene hand signals that deeply unsettle her dad). As the two go bigger and bigger, it’s hard to imagine what will up the ante — and that’s when Short’s character says his wife’s been in the car the whole time.

That would be Melissa McCarthy in an incredible wig, who arrives pounding on Fineman’s car window to scare the living daylights out of the family. McCarthy evokes an actual yelp from Fineman and screams of laughter from the audience as she ace performer does the unexpected: Taking a pull from a chocolate milkshake, she spits it on the window before using her chest to smearing it around.

Hats off to Fineman, who (barely) maintains her composure as McCarthy maintains intense eye contact through the glass. Watch SNL‘s “Parking Lot Altercation” sketch above.

Martin Short’s sketch was a sequel to Quinta Brunson’s “Traffic Altercation”

As this behind-the-scenes video reveals, the bit got big laughs even at the initial table read with the cast and crew.

Melissa McCarthy’s Hysterical SNL Cameo Is Her First Since 2018

Fans of Saturday Night Live were in for a treat this past weekend when Melissa McCarthy made a surprise cameo on the show. This marked her first appearance on the sketch comedy show since 2018, and she certainly did not disappoint.

  • Amanda Knox Cameo in Peacock’s ‘Laid’ Is Unexpected Delight

Amanda Knox Cameo in Peacock’s ‘Laid’ Is Unexpected Delight

Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for “Laid.”

“I don’t know anything about love,” laments Stephanie Hsu’s character Ruby at the conclusion of Peacock’s new romantic comedy series “Laid.” The eight-episode season dropped in its entirety on December 19 and follows’s Hsu’s Ruby as she realizes everyone she’s ever slept with, including Michael Angarano, pro wrestler Ettore “Big E” Ewin and, inexplicably, John Early, are dying.

Ruby goes on a journey to find out why this is happening and, in the process, find herself amidst her past conquests, with the help of her best friend and roommate, AJ, played by Zosia Mamet, who puts her true crime obsessive skills to good work tracking down Ruby’s exes and figuring out a timeline: “I wanted to do something for the person I love most. And that’s you.”

It’s a grand gesture for the ages, right up there with running onto an airplane to stop your lover from flying to some far-off locale (as Ruby does in an attempt to prevent Early’s death by plane crash on his way to shoot an Icelandic yoghurt commercial) and getting Letters to Cleo to play on the top of your high school. Ruby even somehow finagles AJ’s ultimate true crime fixation, Amanda Knox, into meeting AJ for dinner.

“Your boyfriend said you always say, ‘If I could just have one hour with Amanda Knox…,” Knox herself says in the “Laid” finale. “Well, I’m Amanda Knox, and you have one hour.”

“We kept the set very small that night because we didn’t want any spoilers and wanted to respect Amanda’s privacy. It wasn’t dissimilar to the scene that we shot,” Mamet told IndieWire. “She’s wonderful and so kind and so smart and so open about her experience. She’s a force. She’s one of the strongest people I’ve ever met.”

Learning to be somewhat selfless, Ruby pretends it’s AJ’s forgettable, pathetic boyfriend Zach (Andre Hyland)—whom Ruby slept with and thus signed his death warrant in a decidedly selfish action — who organized this clandestine supper. But, despite AJ’s hurt, she knows right away that only a best friend would gesture that grandly. Thus, the love story at the center of “Laid” is not with someone who can help Ruby break her curse, but with AJ.

Mamet has made a career of gravitating towards depictions of female friendship, from her breakout in “Girls,” playing high-strung Shoshanna Shapiro, to Aya Cash’s estranged childhood best friend in “You’re the Worst,” to real-life bestie Kaley Cuoco’s on-screen bestie in “The Flight Attendant.”

“It was love at first sight,” Mamet said of her friendship with Cuoco. “The first time we met was my chemistry read with her for that show. We got really, really close while shooting. Shooting a TV show or movie can be a bit of an incubator for relationships because you spend such long hours and so many consecutive days together, so we had circumstances in our favor.

“And then we had the horse girl connection,” Mamet added, reminiscing about how she brought her horse out to stay at Cuoco’s ranch in California, where “The Flight Attendant” relocated to in its second season. Mamet and Cuoco would go riding together on breaks from shooting.

Now Mamet and Cuoco are network stablemates on their new shows, with Cuoco most recently starring in “Based on a True Story,” a true crime caper that “Laid”’s AJ would certainly be at home on. The two attended a Peacock Killer Women in Comedy event in November, along with Hsu, who acts as a producer on “Laid,” helping to bring a laid back vibe to the intense eight-week shoot.

Mamet sings Hsu’s praises, sharing that Hsu found ways to lighten the mood, including a Friday costume contest. “She was not only the face of the show but the beating heart of the entire thing,” Mamet said. “She really sets a beautiful, grateful tone on set and that starts everyone off on the right foot.”

This is in contrast to the souring of Ruby and AJ’s friendship throughout the show. Like all good comedy heroines (paging Carrie Bradshaw), Ruby is a hot mess whose behavior alienates AJ, her family and her colleagues at her party planning job. AJ grows sick of being taken advantage of for her savant-like investigative skills and flexible schedule as a bartender, and at one point kicks Ruby and Zach out of her apartment.

Mamet says that the nuanced portrayal of the struggles female friendship in your thirties can encompass is one of the things that drew her to “Laid.”

“When you’re in your twenties there’s not as much pressure on a friendship. [They] don’t really need a lot of tending,” Mamet said. “You’re just having a good time with one another.”

Or, in the case of “Girls,” just kind of existing in the same scene because that’s what the show called for, despite the unlikelihood of any of those titular girls being friends under different circumstances.

“As we get older and the world is placing pressure on our friendships from the outside, friends become people that you have to lean on more. Suddenly, you end up asking more of your friends and needing more from your friends. When people can’t give you that, it puts a friendship under an examination that doesn’t necessarily feel comfortable,” she continued.

“[Sometimes it’s] not necessarily that anyone’s at fault, but you just grow apart and you start to see that distance forming. It’s a really scary and sad thing that can just happen in life.”

That’s where we find Ruby and AJ in “Laid.” AJ has been giving her time and skills to helping Ruby but, as emerges as they track down Ruby’s exes, Ruby has a penchant for taking.

Though Ruby commits an affront against AJ that any friendship would struggle to come back from, Ruby’s aforementioned grand gesture goes a ways to repairing that, or at least showing AJ that their friendship is the most important thing to her and she’s willing to work not only on herself but on earning AJ’s trust back.

“I don’t think we often think about them like that,” Mamet said. “We think about romantic relationships like that, but not friendships.”

The real sex curse ended up being the friends we made along the way.

“Laid” is streaming on Peacock now.

Have you ever wondered what Amanda Knox has been up to since her infamous trial in Italy? Well, wonder no more because she recently made a surprise cameo in the new Peacock series ‘Laid’ and it is truly an unexpected delight.

In the show, Knox plays a fictionalized version of herself who gets caught up in a murder mystery while on vacation in Italy. The role is a clever nod to Knox’s own legal troubles and adds a layer of intrigue to the already suspenseful storyline.

Knox’s appearance in ‘Laid’ is a refreshing change of pace for the former convicted murderer, showing off her acting chops and sense of humor in a way that many may not have expected. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always room for a little bit of light and laughter.

So if you’re looking for a new show to binge-watch, be sure to check out ‘Laid’ on Peacock and keep an eye out for Amanda Knox’s scene-stealing cameo. Trust me, it’s an unexpected delight you won’t want to miss.

How Amanda Knox Landed Cameo in Peacock Comedy Series

The team behind Laid couldn’t be happier to have included Amanda Knox in the Peacock comedy series.

Adapted from the Australian project of the same name, the show centers on Ruby (Stephanie Hsu), who realizes that her previous lovers are dying and sets out to understand why this is happening. Zosia Mamet co-stars as Ruby’s best friend AJ, while other castmembers include Michael Angarano and Tommy Martinez.

One surprising member of the cast is Knox, who makes an appearance in the final episode of the first season that is currently streaming. Knox became a public figure after she was convicted and then ultimately acquitted of the 2007 murder of her roommate in Italy. Co-showrunner Sally Bradford McKenna describes herself to The Hollywood Reporter as a big true-crime fan who saw Knox as the right fit for a role, given the series’ story.

“I’m obsessed with her,” Bradford McKenna says of Knox. “Like the character of AJ, I am obsessed with true crime. It really did fit in this show to have AJ be playing detective and trying to solve the mystery and get on the case.”

The Goldbergs alum continues, “We knew that we were going towards a moment where we needed a grand gesture. We thought she was perfect because, first of all, we were set in Seattle. We didn’t even realize that she lives in Seattle. We were trying to think of someone who is true crime but was acquitted of the crime. She was so game and so into it. She also is into comedy, and she was so excited to do this, and she was amazing. She was a really good actress, too.”

Bradford McKenna, who serves as co-showrunner of Laid alongside Nahnatchka Khan, also saw a connection between Knox’s path and the themes informing Hsu’s character. She says of Knox, “Her story is such a fucked-up story, and thematically of a girl in her 20s in college going off to study abroad and the juxtaposition of the darkest possible stakes against this backdrop of a woman just looking for love and dating. It tied in very nicely with Ruby’s story.”

Knox and then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted in 2009 of the murder of Meredith Kercher, who was Knox’s roommate in Italy and found dead in their apartment two years prior. The convictions were overturned in 2011, and then after they were again found guilty in a retrial, the pair were exonerated by Italy’s Supreme Court of Cassation in 2015. Margaret Qualley is set to play Knox in a Hulu series about her life.

On Laid, when AJ tells Knox that she wants to hear about being in jail for a crime she didn’t commit, Knox quips about her situation, “Yeah, I don’t recommend it.”

Additionally, Bradford McKenna praises Hsu for helping audiences connect with a “genuinely unlikable” character like Ruby.

“We knew for the casting of Ruby, she needed to be someone you instantly like, who you instantly are rooting for,” she says. “We tried to write towards that, but really so much of that was just the casting of Stephanie. She’s so appealing and so likable.”

Amanda Knox, the former American student who was acquitted of murder charges in Italy, has recently landed a cameo in the upcoming Peacock comedy series. Knox, who has faced years of legal battles and media scrutiny, will be making her acting debut in the show, titled “A Killer Comedy.”

The series, which follows a group of amateur sleuths who solve murder mysteries in their small town, will feature Knox in a guest role as a mysterious new neighbor who may or may not be involved in a recent murder case. The show’s creators are excited to have Knox on board, believing that her unique perspective and personal experiences will bring an added layer of authenticity to the role.

While Knox’s involvement in the show has sparked some controversy, with critics questioning whether she should be profiting off of her notoriety, others see it as an opportunity for her to reclaim her narrative and show a different side of herself to the public. Regardless of the backlash, Knox remains determined to pursue her passion for acting and hopes that her cameo in “A Killer Comedy” will be the first of many roles to come. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new project!
