As if there wasn’t enough anticipation around NBC’s Suits LA, the legal drama is bringing in some familiar faces — including a cameo or two from the original cast.

Set in a fictional New York City corporate law firm, the original Suits followed associate lawyer Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who started working with Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). The legal drama, which ran from 2011 to 2019, focused on Harvey and Mike winning lawsuits and closing cases while simultaneously hiding Mike’s secret that he didn’t go to law school.

The show had a resurgence in popularity in 2023 when it was added to Netflix and Peacock. As a result, NBC developed a spinoff starring Stephen Amell, Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis and Bryan Greenberg.

“We want to play the hits. We want to have a lot of fun,” Amell told Entertainment Weekly in December 2024. “We are only sitting in Black Lane Law group conference room at the moment right now because of Gabriel and Patrick [J. Adams] and Sarah [Rafferty] and Meghan [Markle] and Rick [Hoffman] and all of the people that comprised the original Suits cast. So all of them are welcome.”

The Suits franchise lives on with another spinoff, Suits LA. Suits LA will feature new characters played by Stephen Amell, Bryan Greenberg, Josh McDermitt and Lex Scott Davis. It will be located in a new place, but it’s set in the same universe as the original series. Suits ran for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019 […]

Amell made it clear that the door is open for more cameos, adding, “I’m not the one that invites them, but as far as I’m concerned, all of them are welcome. … We’re going to do our own thing, and that’s OK. We do things on this show that they couldn’t do on the original.”

The actor, who plays the lead in the spinoff series, also revealed how his character Ted Black has a special connection to Macht’s Harvey.

“You’ll notice behind my desk that there’s a picture of a young Ted Black with what can only be a young Harvey Specter so there’s clearly a history between the characters,” he explained. “We came up together in the D.A.’s office. So if I was going to have anyone [from the original cast] come back, I would want it to be Gabriel. I would really hope that that happens, because I am very much a fan of his character and I think that that dynamic would be something that the viewers would really enjoy.”

  • All the Broadway Cameos in CBS’ Elsbeth Season 2, Part 1

CBS’s hit investigative murder mystery series Elsbeth is back for season 2! The spin-off series from The Good Wife franchise has returned with Emmy-winner and Broadway alum Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni, “an astute but unconventional attorney who uses her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD,” according to the official synopsis.

Returning to the second season are Broadway performers Wendell Pierce (Death of a Salesman) and Carra Patterson (Jitney) as precinct captain C.W. Wagner and partner in justice Office Kaya Bianke, respectively.

Like many of our favorite crime dramas, Elsbeth takes place and films in New York City. What does that mean for us theatre fans? Lots of familiar Broadway faces making guest star appearances, that’s what! Last spring, we gave you some of our favorite cameos that appeared in the premiere season, and we’re back to give you more. So far, the hit show has had Tony winners and nominees, a Dear Evan Hansen alum, and even a familiar face from The Good Wife. While we joked about it in our last recap, could this mean the possibility of more cameos from The Good Wife franchise (hint: Audra McDonald or Christine Baranski)?

Whatever the future holds for Elsbeth and her team, we’ll be watching. The second half of season 2 begins January 30. In the meantime, you can catch up on season 1 and the first eight episodes of season 2, now streaming on Paramount+.

Stop reading now if you want to avoid spoilers.

    Carrie Preston and Nathan Lane
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

Season 2, Episode 1: Subscription to Murder

Well, there are a few ways to make a big splash for your season two premiere, and what better way than an appearance from three-time Tony winner Nathan Lane! Lane plays an opera-obsessed perfectionist whose nights at the opera are suddenly sullied when a Wall Street himbo (played by Corey Mach) sits directly in front of Lane. Wouldn’t a ruined evening caused by ringing (and answered) phones, loud potato chip chewing, and more antics drive anyone to the brink? Elsbeth is on the case, working with Prayer for the French Republic‘s Daniel Oreskes as Detective Buzz Fleming.

    John Behlmann and Carrie Preston
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

    Episode 2: The Wrong Stuff

Billionaires. They’re just like us, right? When training to travel to a space station, a group of billionaires become murder suspects when one of them is killed in a not-so-freak “accident” during a session. To help Elsbeth solve the case, the NY Fire Department is called in to help assess the explosion. Enter Fire Marshall Jake Turling played by the ever-so-dreamy John Behlmann (Smash), who might be trying to start some romantic flames of his own with Elsbeth.

Making a small cameo this episode is Broadway favorite Christian Borle, who is actually known to Good Wife. Borle reprises his role as Chicago lawyer Carter Schmidt who worked with Elsbeth at her previous firm. Schmidt warns that a past divorce case they worked on might be coming back to haunt them. Hopefully, we will see more of him in season two!

    Carrie Preston and Christian Borle
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

    Episode 3: Devil’s Night

When an ex-child star, Mac, wakes up with a bad hangover, no memory of the last 24 hours, and is covered in blood, Elsbeth must help her recover her steps to determine if she committed murder on Halloween. Through the course of the investigation, the team attends a party thrown by Mac’s friend and former producer Roya (How to Dance in Ohio‘s Haven Burton). Could Roya’s pet monkey and invisible ink hand stamps be the key to figuring out whodunnit?

    Vanessa Williams and Carrie Preston
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

Episode 4: Diamonds Are for Elsbeth

If there is one thing people love to watch, it’s an elaborate jewel heist. And what do people enjoy watching more than that? A heist gone bad! Broadway and screen royalty Vanessa Williams (West End’s The Devil Wears Prada) plays Roslyn Bridwell, a fading socialite whose funds have dried up and will soon be kicked out of one of the most exclusive jewelry stores in NYC. But she isn’t going down without a fight. Williams’ character hatches a scheme with a ragtag team, including disgruntled store employee Judith (Becky Ann Baker), to pull it off. However, everything does not go to plan and some drastic measures must be taken.

    Carrie Preston and Laura Benanti
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

Episode 5: Elsbeth Flips the Bird

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Elsbeth investigates the attack on a world-renowned chef and the death of a staff member at her five-star restaurant. The episode sees a return of not one, but two season 1 Broadway guest stars. First, leading the case (though let’s be honest, no detective is really in charge if Elsbeth is involved) is NYPD Detective Edwards, played by Tony nominee Micaela Diamond. Also back is Tony winner Laura Benanti playing supermodel (now turned friend) Nadine Clay, who uses her VIP status to help Elsbeth gain access to a seat at the chef’s table. If there is one thing you can count on with a Benanti cameo is some great one-liners and laughs…even when murder is afoot.

The episode also features a short cameo from Ciara Renée (Waitress) as pop star TruRose. The singer is filing for divorce from one of Elsbeth’s former clients in Chicago and pleads for help, while ominously telling Elsbeth that helping her can make right the things she did for her former husband. Could this be the mystery case that Borle’s character warned about in episode two?

    Carrie Preston
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

Episode 6: Gold, Frankincense, and Murder

Murder? At Christmas? Crime never takes a holiday at Elsbeth when Broadway funnyman Christopher Fitzgerald‘s (Spamalot) character Dirk Dasher, a celebrity Christmas curator, hatches a sinister plan to get rid of his wife. Unfortunately, the plan backfires. And who is witness to it all? & Juliet‘s Michael Ivan Carrier as Laird, the overworked, abused, and drama queen executive assistant to celebrity fashion editor Gisela Mott. Nothing says Happy Holidays like homicide!

Also, in a fun surprise for fans of the show and Broadway, Ben Levi Ross (Dear Evan Hansen) guest stars as Elsbeth’s son Teddy. We’ve heard her talk about him since season 1 and fans finally get to meet the son of the proud lawyer turned consultant. If I was a betting man, I’d wager we might get to see more Ross in the future.

    Nikki Crawford
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

    Episode 7: One Angry Woman

What happens when our heroine is called in for jury duty? A whole shmorgishborg of Broadway guest stars! Elsbeth is selected to serve on the jury for a woman accused of killing her neighbor (who’s also her secret lover). Serving as the prosecutor is Fat Ham‘s Tony nominee Nikki Crawford, with Max Crumm (The Connector) and Sasha Hutchings (Gypsy) as fellow juror members. Crumm’s character has other motives for being on the jury and Hutchings is a businesswoman desperate to finish the case and get back to her job. With Broadway stars surrounding Elsbeth, jury duty has never been more fun.

    Laurie Metcalf and Carrie Preston
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

    Episode 8: Toil and Trouble

in the mid-series finale, it’s “lights, camera, action” for the NYPD team as they investigate the murder of the showrunner of a long-running crime series. It’s one of the more graphic deaths from this series so far (I mean, how often do you see someone take the heel of a stiletto through the eye?). The fictional series’ leading lady Regina Coburn (played by two-time Tony winner Laurie Metcalf) is desperate to be rid of the long-running series so that she can pursue real acting: performing as Lady M in the Scottish play in the West End. But to what extreme is she willing to go to finally escape her career prison? Enter KPOP‘s Amy Keum as the victim’s assistant. She’s all-seeing and all-knowing when it comes to the comings and goings of her former boss. Could she be the key to solving the mystery? If this isn’t a lesson in being kind to the assistants of the world, I don’t know what is. They might just help with your murder investigation!

Meanwhile, could love be in the air for one of our series regulars? Patterson’s character is on the hunt for a new roommate and might have found the perfect candidate in doctor-turned-coroner Cameron Clayden. Played by Slave Play‘s Sullivan Jones, could this perfect roommate also be a love connection?

Season One and the first eight episodes of Season Two of Elsbeth are now available to stream on Paramount+.

‘Wicked’s’ Director Tells Us The Original Idea They Had For Idina Menzel And Kristen Chenoweth’s Cameos, And How Plans Changed Over One ‘Magical’ Night

It would be difficult for Jon M. Chu to mount a film adaptation of Wicked without paying some tribute to the Broadway sensation’s original stars, Idina Menzel (as Elphaba) and Kristin Chenoweth (as Glinda). Those of you who have seen the new movie – and based on box office numbers, it’s a large number of people – know that Menzel and Chenoweth appear in Wicked in the third act, when Glinda and Elphaba leave Shiz University and arrive in the Emerald City. They are a huge part of the musical number “One Short Day.” But when we spoke with Chu, we learned that they had different plans for Menzel and Chenoweth, and they changed rapidly as the shoot went on. Jon M. Chu appeared as a guest on CinemaBlend’s official ReelBlend podcast, where he spoke about the film’s reception, and several elements of the filming of the Broadway musical. And when we brought up the cameo appearances of Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, we talked about walking the complicated line of showcasing these talents, but not taking audience members out of the movie that they have shown up to see. As “wickedly” talented as Menzel and Chenoweth are, they have the ability of possibly stealing focus away from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, whose movie this very much is.

“Wicked’s Director Reveals Original Idea for Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth’s Cameos, and How Plans Changed Over One ‘Magical’ Night”

In a recent interview, the director of the hit Broadway musical “Wicked” shared some insights into the original idea they had for Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth’s cameos in the production. According to the director, the initial plan was to have both actresses make a surprise appearance during a special anniversary performance of the show.

However, as plans began to take shape, the director realized that having Menzel and Chenoweth perform together on stage would be a truly unforgettable moment for fans of the musical. And so, on one magical night, the two leading ladies of “Wicked” took to the stage together for the first time in years, much to the delight of the audience.

The director went on to explain that the energy and chemistry between Menzel and Chenoweth that night was palpable, and that it was a truly special moment that will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to witness it.

Overall, the director expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to work with such talented performers, and their excitement at the prospect of future collaborations with Menzel and Chenoweth. It just goes to show that sometimes, the best moments in theater are the ones that happen spontaneously and unexpectedly.

‘Wicked’ Director Explains Idina Menzel & Kristin Chenoweth’s Cameos

With two of the most anticipated movie cameos of the year, Jon M. Chu had his work cut out for him.

The Wicked director recently recounted how he conceived an appearance for the original Broadway musical’s stars Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth during the song ‘One Short Day’, performed with their successors Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

“It was a tightrope that we all had to talk about a lot, with Stephen [Schwartz] and Winnie [Holzman] as well, where’s the best place,” Chu told CinemaBlend. “And we had them as cameo roles at some point, like, ‘maybe they’re Galinda’s parents’ or ‘maybe they’re this or that.’ And those were all fine and good, but every time we thought of it more, it didn’t feel — they’re at the top of their game right now. They’re at the top of their game right now. They’re not like some people who don’t do it there. [If] they are there, you want them to do their thing, and I always felt like as a fan myself, if I see them in this movie, I’m going to want them to do their thing.

The director explained that he envisioned a “Wizomania” type of ride when the two women arrive in Oz, inspired by the Disney ride ‘It’s a Small World’, “where you get into a boat and it takes you through the history of Oz.”

“And it was going to be a performance that happens around them and all this stuff and then sends you back to the Wizard’s palace,” he said. “So, we had that, because we needed to set up what the show didn’t have too much about, that we had to do, which was set up the Grimmerie, why the Wizard was here, what the prophecy is — we had a lot of information to give.”

Wicked becomes biggest stage musical adaptation ever worldwide

Chu continued, “And it was during those conversations that Stephen and I were talking, and I suggested, ‘We have this section anyway, that’s sort of outside of the narrative that we need to give. Maybe that’s where you do it, so you can add a little sugar to the information.’ And he was like, ‘Give me one night.’ And he rewrote the whole thing as a performance for these girls. It was so fun, that’s where it felt like this is a great moment of sort of a send-off.”

Menzel and Chenoweth originated the roles of Elphaba and Galinda when Wicked premiered on Broadway in 2003, earning the former a Tony for Best Actress in a Musical, for which her co-star was also nominated.

“Wicked” Director Explains Idina Menzel & Kristin Chenoweth’s Cameos

Fans of the hit Broadway musical “Wicked” were thrilled to see original stars Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth make cameo appearances in the recently released film adaptation. Director Jon M. Chu sat down with us to explain how he was able to bring these iconic actresses back to the world of Oz.

Chu revealed that he knew from the beginning that he wanted to include Menzel and Chenoweth in the film in some capacity. “Their performances as Elphaba and Glinda are so ingrained in the hearts of fans, I knew we had to find a way to honor that legacy,” he said.

The director explained that Menzel and Chenoweth were more than willing to make a cameo appearance, despite their busy schedules. “They both love ‘Wicked’ as much as the fans do, so they were excited to be a part of the film in any way they could,” Chu shared.

As for their cameos, Chu kept details under wraps to surprise fans. “I wanted their appearances to be a special moment for the audience, so I won’t give too much away,” he teased. “But I can promise that their performances will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye.”

With the inclusion of Menzel and Chenoweth, “Wicked” fans can rest assured that the film adaptation stays true to the magic and heart of the beloved musical.
