Harrison Ford says his version of Red Hulk in Captain America Brave New World is ‘not quite a villain’
Harrison Ford has spoken about his role as Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, rejecting the idea that the Red Hulk should be labelled a ‘villain’.
The 82-year-old has taken on the part once portrayed by the late William Hurt, who passed away in 2022, and Thaddeus is now the new US president.
In one of the many released sneak peeks, President Ross can be seen addressing the nation from behind the lectern outside the White House before transforming into the monstrous Red Hulk.

And he turns into the Hulk, so there’s a complication in his life.’
‘It’s good to have characters that have a substance and a point of view, and I think we have a bunch of very interesting characters in this film.’
Reflecting on the visual effects, Ford described seeing himself as Red Hulk: ‘I’ve never seen myself that way before, but it was interesting, it was fun.’
Captain America Brave New World Pic: Marvel Studios The storyline follows Sam Wilson, portrayed by Anthony Mackie, who has assumed the role of Captain America, as he becomes embroiled in an international incident involving Ford’s newly elected president.
Mackie, who previously appeared as The Falcon alongside Chris Evans’ Captain America, spoke fondly of his long-standing involvement with the Marvel franchise.
Mackie explained: ‘The fun part about it was not so much about becoming Captain America, but doing it with all of my friends and colleagues from the beginning.
Prime Minister Ozaki (Takehiro Hira), Captain America/Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), and President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) in Captain America Brave New World Pic: Marvel Studios ‘These movies are a lot like summer camp. People become your family.’
‘Being in, now, nine of these movies, the same props guy from the first movie was my props guy on this movie, my dresser on the first movie was my dresser on this movie.
‘So it is just the evolution of, I’m just really proud of the evolution of the character and everybody seeing Sam for who he is.’
You can check out Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford in Marvel Studios’ Captain America Brave New World when it lands in cinemas on February 14.
Harrison Ford recently opened up about his upcoming role as the Red Hulk in the highly anticipated film Captain America: Brave New World. In a recent interview, Ford revealed that his version of the Red Hulk is “not quite a villain” in the traditional sense.Ford explained that while the Red Hulk may be seen as an antagonist in the film, there are many layers to the character that make him more complex than just a simple villain. “I think audiences will be surprised by the depth and complexity of the Red Hulk in this film,” Ford said. “He may not be a hero, but he’s definitely not just a villain either.”
Fans of the Marvel universe are eagerly anticipating Ford’s portrayal of the Red Hulk, and it seems like they can expect a nuanced and multi-dimensional character in Captain America: Brave New World. Stay tuned for more updates on the film as it nears its release date.

Harrison Ford hopes that he doesn’t “disappoint” fellow Marvel star Mark Ruffalo with his performance as Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World
It’s not easy being green, but turning red might be even tougher, especially for Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Captain America: Brave New World. As the new Hulk on the block, Ford revealed that he had to face the excessive anger issues of his character alone, as Bruce Banner’s Mark Ruffalo couldn’t be reached for pointers. “He wasn’t available for a consultation. I just had to wing it,” Ford joked to On Demand Entertainment. “I hope he’s not disappointed.”
As far as we know, Ruffalo’s gamma-infused Avenger won’t be stomping by in the upcoming chapter of the MCU, which features Ford’s Ross facing off against Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as the all-new Captain America. It also marks the legendary actor’s first appearance in the franchise after replacing the late William Hurt, who passed away in 2022.
Ford accepted the role gracefully, acknowledging the challenge of continuing with a character Hurt had so wonderfully played since The Incredible Hulk in 2008, the same year the Red Hulk made his comic book debut. “It then becomes your responsibility to fill out the shoes that walked before you, and I had a lot of help from the script because the character’s life becomes more complicated and interesting perhaps, but it’s the level of dramatic involvement here is very high,” Ford revealed. “It’s kind of operatic.”
We’ll have to see what kind of high notes and altitudes the film will reach when Captain America: Brave New World soars into theatres on February 14. To ensure your calendar is up to date with future MCU appointments, check out our guide to every upcoming Marvel movie and TV show here.
Veteran actor Harrison Ford is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the iconic character Red Hulk in the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. However, Ford has expressed some nervousness about stepping into the superhero world, particularly in regards to his fellow Marvel star Mark Ruffalo. In a recent interview, Ford revealed, “I have so much respect for Mark and his portrayal of the Hulk. He has brought such depth and complexity to the character, and I just hope that I can live up to the standard he has set. I don’t want to disappoint him or the fans.”
Fans have been eagerly anticipating Ford’s portrayal of Red Hulk, and many are excited to see how he will bring the character to life on the big screen. With his impressive track record in Hollywood, there’s no doubt that Ford will deliver a performance that will leave audiences in awe.
Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters next year, and fans can’t wait to see Ford and Ruffalo share the screen as two iconic Marvel characters. Let’s hope that Ford’s fears are unfounded and that he will knock it out of the park as Red Hulk.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 5th T20I: India coach reveals who took the final call on concussion substitute
The selection of Harshit Rana as a “concussion sub” in place of Shivam Dube infuriated England captain Jos Buttler, but India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel defended the decision, claiming that match referee Javagal Srinath made the final call after they presented the young pacer’s name.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir skillfully employed the rules to substitute Mumbai all-rounder Rana, who bowls at early 120 clicks, for Dube, who reached a half-century, when Dube was hit by Jamie Overton off the penultimate delivery of the Indian innings.
“As far as I’m aware, Shivam (Dube) obviously took the knock on the head and when he came off the field during the innings break with mild headache symptoms, we took a name forward to the match referee in terms of a suitable substitution.
“From there it’s up to the match referee to make that decision,” Morkel replied when asked about the controversy surrounding Rana.
With a match remaining, the pacer helped India win by 15 runs in Pune on Friday night, capping the T20I series. He took 3/33 on his debut.
“Harshit (Rana) was having dinner, had to get himself ready as quick as possible to get onto the field and bowl and I thought he did an excellent job,” Morkel said.
When questioned about Buttler’s criticism of the replacement for not being like-for-like, Morkel avoided the subject.
“You know, it goes to the powers sort of above me (match referee).
“Match referee, he made the decision, you know, we can only take the name forward and from there it’s out of our hands. We got the green light to go with that and, you know, we gave it an opportunity,” he said.
The bowling unit’s consistency in execution has greatly impressed the former South African pacer, who joined the Indian team management prior to the home season.
“In our planning we do before games, everybody’s contributing in those conversations. But the main thing at the end of the day is to go out and execute,” Morkel said.
“And I think even if we’re under pressure with ball in hand, like tonight, you know, we were under pressure, defending a total there tonight, it was great character shown by this young group,” he said.
England got off to a fast start with 62 runs in Powerplay, but Varun Chakravarthy, Rana, and Ravi Bishnoi demonstrated their skills by defending a total of 181.
“The way we defended tonight, yeah, I’m just very proud of this team. You know, defending a 180 sort of total on a good wicket with a wet outfield is outstanding work.”
India vs England 5th T20I Live Score Update:In the highly anticipated 5th T20I match between India and England, England captain Jos Buttler has won the toss and elected to field first. This decision will put the Indian batting line-up to the test as they look to set a competitive total.
In a surprising move, Mohammed Shami has been included in the Indian playing XI for this crucial match. Shami’s pace and accuracy will be key in providing early breakthroughs for the Indian team.
Both teams are coming off impressive performances in the series so far, with the series currently tied at 2-2. The winner of this match will take the series and gain momentum going into the upcoming ODI series.

If your kids are among the millions who devour the “Dog Man” graphic novels, then book it to the movies. Dog Man and his lovable friends (and foes) are making their big screen debut this year, and this feature film is a delight for kids and grownups alike.
I had the chance to attend an early screening of the movie and brought along my fun-sized film critic: a gummy bear and popcorn-fueled 3-year-old.
Since the reading series is geared for ages 6+ (and my son’s still in ABC mode), we entered the theater with little knowledge of the “Dog Man” universe. But you don’t need to read the books in order to enjoy this film (although, you’ll probably want to after)!
The visual style of DreamWorks Animation’s “Dog Man” has a nostalgic, hand-drawn feel that fans of the graphic novels will recognize and appreciate. As an uninitiated viewer, I found the animation to be a refreshing detour from the overly CGI’d look of other kid movies (looking at you, human teeth on Sonic). I’ll admit the “Dog Man” trailer wasn’t blowing my mind, but the film itself is endearing, action-packed and it was neat how closely the animation matches its source material.
I won’t spill any spoilers to the 89-minute ride, but to set the scene, Dog Man is part dog, surgically fused to his human officer, and “all hero.” Pete Davidson voices the film’s first ‘villain,’ Petey the World’s Most Evilest Cat. Davidson brings the right amount of chaos to the role; you’ll just need to forgive/forget that Petey and other non-people can talk and Dog Man can’t. Still, Dog Man (barked by director Peter Hastings himself) conveys plenty of emotion. Enough that my toddler looked up and told me, “Dog Man is sad,” during a glum time for our hero. But chin up, kiddo, there’s lots of happy ahead. Namely, in the adorable introduction of Li’l Petey. I audibly “awww’d” when Li’l Petey first came on-screen.
The voice cast includes Lil Rel Howery (Chief), Isla Fisher (reporter Sarah Hatoff), Ricky Gervais (Flippy), Stephen Root (Grampa) and Cheri Oteri (Mayor). As any good kid movie should have, there are plenty of moments to garner genuine grown-up laughs – mine came from Sarah Hatoff, Seamus and disgruntled assistant Butler – but this film stays in its lane as a feel-good graphic comic book come-to-life(ish).
Age 3 isn’t the target audience for “Dog Man,” but it held my squirrely toddler’s attention (along with the aforementioned popcorn and gummy bears). School-age kids will be wagging their tails to see it, while their guardians enjoy a colorful 89-minute break from the outside world.
“Dog Man” also has a special connection to our region.
Dav Pilkey is the author and illustrator of “Dog Man” and “Captain Underpants,” another wildly popular series that has been adapted into a feature film and Netflix series.
Clearly, Pilkey has great taste since he resides here in Washington state!
Pilkey’s bio explains that he “lives in the Pacific Northwest with his wife, but his writing is inspired by children and adults around the world. His stories explore universally positive themes that celebrate the triumph of the good-hearted.”
Pilkey shares that he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia as a child. Relegated to frequent school timeouts, the hallway became the birthplace of “Captain Underpants” and “Dog Man.” His childhood creativity flourished into a global sensation, and Pilkey takes special care to acknowledge how our differences make us extraordinary.
While sketching his “Dog Man” character 80-HD (a deliberate nod to ADHD), Pilkey narrates, “I created this character to show that thinking and learning differently can not only be an advantage, it might just be a superpower.”
After the movie, I got an official quote from my young critic. When I asked his favorite part, he said, “The Man Dog part.” Did he just sniff out a sequel? Your move, Dav Pilkey.
“Dog Man” is in theaters now!
Dog Man and Captain Underpants creator Dav Pilkey calls the PNW homeDid you know that the talented author and illustrator behind the beloved children’s book series Dog Man and Captain Underpants, Dav Pilkey, calls the Pacific Northwest home?
Pilkey, who was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, now resides in a small town in Washington state, where he finds inspiration for his imaginative and hilarious stories. With his quirky sense of humor and colorful illustrations, Pilkey has captured the hearts of readers young and old around the world.
From the adventures of Dog Man, a half-dog, half-human superhero, to the silly antics of Captain Underpants, a superhero who fights crime in his underwear, Pilkey’s books are filled with laughter, friendship, and important life lessons.
So next time you pick up a Dog Man or Captain Underpants book, remember that you’re holding a piece of the PNW in your hands, thanks to the creative genius of Dav Pilkey.

Captain America: Brave New World
Ahead of the release of Captain America: Brave New World, star Anthony Mackie went viral with his take on what Captain America represents. And that’s not necessarily just America. The quote was widely shared and required follow-up clarification from the actor. But it feels like Mackie is being unfairly targeted given that the last actor to have that role, Chris Evans said something nearly identical when he took the part. And so has Captain American in the actual comics.
Here’s Mackie’s original quote:
“Captain America represents a lot of different things and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations. It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity and integrity.”
Then, later he followed up with another comment on Instagram:
“I’m a proud American and taking on the shield of a hero like Cap is the honor of a lifetime. I have the utmost respect for those who serve and have served our country. Cap has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to.”
Chris Evans as Captain America
If this is a “controversy,” then you have to wonder why Chris Evans didn’t get the same level of flak for his quote about playing the character. Here’s him speaking with CBM back in 2011 ahead of the first film in the series, The First Avenger:
“Ha, well, to me, I’m not trying to get too lost in the American side of it. This isn’t a flag waving movie. It is red, white and blue, but it just so happens that the character was created in America during war time, when there was a common enemy, even though it is Captain America. I’ve said before in interviews, it feels more like he should just be called Captain Good. [Laughs] You know, he was created at a time when there was this undeniable evil and this guy was kind of created to fight that evil. I think that everyone could agree that Nazis were bad and he, Cap, just so happens to wear the red, white and blue.”
Going further back, this has often been portrayed significantly more pointedly by Captain America in the comics themselves. One such example from an issue:
“Listen to me, all of you out there! You were told by this man, your hero, that America is the greatest country in the world! He told you that Americans were the greatest people, that America could be refined like silver, could have the impurities hammered out of it and shine more brightly. He went on about how precious American was, how you needed to make sure it remained great. And he told you anything was justified to preserve that pearl of the great price that is America!”
“Well I say American is nothing! Without its ideals, its commitment to the freedom of all men, America is a piece of trash! A nation is nothing! A flag is a piece of cloth! I fought Adolph Hitler not because America was great, because it was fragile! I k new that liberty could be easily snuffed out here as in Nazi Germany! As a people we were no different than them! When I returned, I saw that you nearly did turn America into nothing!”
Imagine if Anthony Mackie said that. All Mackie is doing is reiterating a common sentiment about the character, and if the takeaway from people’s perception of Captain America is that he’s a mindless soldier fighting for the US to spread freedom everywhere, you don’t know the characters very well (maybe go watch The Winter Soldier again, for starters?). Mackie has many challenges ahead taking up this mantle, but this fake controversy should not be one of them.

Anthony Mackie’s recent statement about his character becoming Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has sparked controversy among fans. In an interview with Variety, Mackie said, “The idea of being a Black man and becoming Captain America is an amazing opportunity. But it comes with a lot of weight.” This statement mirrors what Chris Evans, who portrayed Steve Rogers/Captain America in the MCU, has said in the past about the character. In the comics, Steve Rogers passed on the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson, played by Mackie in the movies. This storyline has been met with mixed reactions from fans, with some praising the decision to have a Black actor take on the iconic role, while others expressing concern over the implications of the character’s race change.
Mackie’s comments about the weight of becoming Captain America highlight the social and cultural significance of the character, especially when portrayed by a Black actor. It is a reminder that representation matters in media, and that the roles we see on screen can have a powerful impact on how we view ourselves and others.
As the MCU continues to expand and evolve, it will be interesting to see how the character of Captain America develops under Mackie’s portrayal and how it reflects the changing social landscape of our world.

Anthony Mackie clarifies ‘Captain America’ remarks: ‘proud American’
Anthony Mackie is clearing the air.
Following a significant amount of backlash to his recent remark that “the term ‘America’” should not be “one of the representations” associated with his Marvel character, Captain America, Mackie took to Instagram Stories to state, “Let me be clear about this, I’m a proud American.”

“Taking on the shield of a hero like CAP is the honor of a lifetime,” he continued on the story posted Jan. 28. “I have the utmost respect for those who serve and have served our country. CAP has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to.”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to Marvel and Mackie for comment.
The reverse course came following comments Mackie made on stage at an event in Rome promoting the actor’s newest showing as the star-spangled supe, Captain America: Brave New World.

“To me Captain America represents a lot of different things, and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations,” Mackie said in a clip circulated online early this morning by several attendees. “It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity and integrity. Someone who is trustworthy and dependable.”

Brave New World is Mackie’s first outing as Captain America in a proper Captain America film. The previous incarnation of the patriotic powerhouse was played by Chris Evans, whose Steve Rogers passed the mantle to Mackie’s Sam Wilson in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Mackie also appeared as Cap in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in 2021.

Mackie told EW at Comic-Con 2024 that “Brave New World is a great title for this film,” calling it “a new beginning, and it’s a foundation on which Marvel will build the universe on now. Not only this character but all the characters that surround him are new building blocks for us to utilize to move on through the universe and into to the future.”
Brave New World is the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fourth Captain America film overall. It will costar Harrison Ford, who takes over for the late William Hurt as President Thaddeus Ross, Danny Ramirez, Tim Blake Nelson, and Giancarlo Esposito. A trailer released last November shows Ford transforming into a beat-red Hulk.
“If you remember,” producer Nate Moore told Collider in 2022, Ross “actually threw [Captain America] in prison at the end of Civil War because he violated the Sokovia Accords. There’s going to be some natural sparks there, which I think are going to be really fun.”
Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently made headlines for his comments about taking on the mantle of Captain America in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”In a recent interview, Mackie clarified his remarks, emphasizing that he is a “proud American” and that his comments were taken out of context. He explained that his character, Sam Wilson, struggles with the idea of becoming Captain America because of the complex history and symbolism of the shield.
Mackie went on to express his gratitude for the opportunity to portray a black superhero in the MCU and the importance of representation in media. He stated that he is committed to telling stories that resonate with audiences of all backgrounds and that he takes his responsibility as a role model seriously.
Overall, Mackie’s clarification serves as a reminder of the complexities of portraying iconic characters like Captain America and the importance of thoughtful representation in Hollywood. Fans can look forward to seeing how Sam Wilson’s journey unfolds in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and beyond.
