As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding their death are still unknown, but the hunters’ find has sparked a renewed effort to uncover the truth.
There is a lot to unpack, but there are some aspects of the hire that stand out above other.
To break it down, let’s look the biggest reason to be optimistic about Carroll’s tenure and the biggest worry spot.
He can be a stabilizing factor:
Carroll is a true NFL head coach. He belongs in the role. He has 18 years of NFL head-coaching experience and he has a pristine reputation for being a quality football man. The job will not be too big for him and he will also respect the job and represent the Raiders well. He is a master culture builder and his influence on this roster and franchise will be felt immediately. The players will quickly know they are in good hands and their leader knows what he’s doing. That wasn’t always the case the past few years. This is a true leader who is in control.
The quarterback situation:
This is not Carroll’s fault, but it’s now his burden. While Carroll will bring stability, leadership, vision and a clear path toward building a great program, the Raiders won’t be able to breakthrough until they find their next quarterback. Carroll and a band-aid quarterback will only have a ceiling of mediocrity. That won’t work in the AFC West. So, unless and until the Raiders figure out the most important position on the field, the Raiders will be an incomplete work in progress.
Conclusion:
The Raiders are halfway there. They found a competent coach. Not they have to work on the roster.
After much speculation and anticipation, the Las Vegas Raiders have officially hired Pete Carroll as their new head coach. Carroll, who previously coached the Seattle Seahawks for over a decade, brings a wealth of experience and success to the Raiders.
One of Carroll’s biggest strengths is his ability to connect with his players and create a positive team culture. Known for his enthusiasm and energy, Carroll is sure to bring a renewed sense of excitement to the Raiders organization. His focus on building strong relationships with his players and fostering a sense of camaraderie on the team could be exactly what the Raiders need to take their performance to the next level.
Carroll is also known for his innovative coaching style and willingness to take risks. His aggressive play-calling and willingness to think outside the box have led to numerous successes throughout his coaching career. With the Raiders looking to make a splash in the AFC West, Carroll’s bold and creative approach could be just what they need to shake things up and make a statement in the league.
Overall, Pete Carroll’s hiring brings a sense of optimism and anticipation to the Las Vegas Raiders. With his proven track record of success, ability to connect with players, and innovative coaching style, the Raiders are in good hands with Carroll at the helm. Fans can look forward to an exciting new era under his leadership.

PITTSBURGH — Is Russell Wilson leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers and heading to the Las Vegas Raiders? The answer isn’t no, but according to the Raiders new head coach, it’s too early to decide whether or not that’s going to happen.
Speaking on What The Football, Carroll was asked about a potential reunion with his Super Bowl-winning quarterback, and didn’t shut down the possibility of it happening.
“It’s so early and we’re just in the midst of trying to find the puzzle pieces, not even putting them together yet, so I can’t even say. Free agency hasn’t come yet,” Carroll said.
He did hint at the idea, though, saying the Raiders are open to anyone who can help the team win.
“I promise you, if you’re a real competitor you’re not letting options get away from you,” Carroll added.
Wilson led the Steelers to the Wild Card round of the playoffs and had moments where people talked about him being an MVP candidate. Things went downhill fast at the end of the season, losing five-straight games to finish the year, but not everything was on Wilson.
As for Pittsburgh, they are believed to favor Justin Fields as their next starter, but aren’t shutting down the possibility Wilson returns. That could change if Wilson heads west to Vegas.
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll recently spoke out about the rumors circulating that star quarterback Russell Wilson may be traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In a press conference, Carroll addressed the speculation and emphasized that Wilson is a key part of the Seahawks’ future plans.
Carroll stated, “Russell Wilson is our guy. He’s been an integral part of this team for years and we have no intention of parting ways with him. He is a tremendous leader on and off the field, and we are committed to building around him for the long term.”
The rumors of Wilson potentially being traded to the Steelers have been swirling in recent weeks, with some reports suggesting that the two teams have had discussions about a possible deal. However, Carroll’s comments seem to put those rumors to rest and reaffirm the Seahawks’ commitment to their star quarterback.
Wilson has been a standout performer for the Seahawks since he was drafted in 2012, earning Pro Bowl honors multiple times and leading the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2014. His dynamic playmaking ability and leadership have made him one of the top quarterbacks in the league, and it’s clear that the Seahawks value what he brings to the team.
As the offseason continues and trade rumors continue to swirl, it’s reassuring for Seahawks fans to hear Carroll’s strong support for Wilson. It seems that the quarterback will remain in Seattle for the foreseeable future, much to the relief of the team and its fans.
Seahawks VP of coaching operations Matt Capurro is leaving the team after 15 years to reunite with Pete Carroll and rejoin the Raiders. Was with Carroll at USC in 2009 and in Seattle from ’10-23, and worked for Al Davis in Oakland from ’04-08.
He was the vice president of coaching operations for the Seattle Seahawks from 2010-24.
Experience with Carroll:
Carroll brought Capurro to Seattle after Capurro had a similar role for Carroll at USC in 2009.
Raiders’ experience:
Capurro, a Bay Area native, has Silver and Black in his blood. He was a football operations intern from 1998-2003. Spanning 2004-08, Capurro was the assistant to the head coach for multiple coaches.
What’s his duties:
Capurro is not a coach per se, but he’s a valuable part of the staff. He operates the daily schedule for the head coach and the staff and plans year-round scheduling. The program starts with Capurro.
Why the Raiders would hire him:
His history with both Carroll and the Raiders made this a slam-dunk hire for all involved.
The Raiders coaching search is heating up and one name that has emerged as a potential candidate is current Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. If Carroll were to join the Raiders, one person who could potentially join his coaching staff is Matt Capurro.
Matt Capurro has been an assistant coach with the Seahawks since 2010, working closely with Carroll on the defensive side of the ball. Capurro has a strong background in coaching, having previously served as a defensive coordinator at the college level before joining the Seahawks.
Capurro is known for his ability to develop young players and his attention to detail on the defensive side of the ball. He has a strong understanding of Carroll’s defensive philosophy and would be a valuable asset to the Raiders coaching staff.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, the potential pairing of Pete Carroll and Matt Capurro in Oakland is certainly an intriguing one to keep an eye on as the Raiders continue their coaching search. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
Since Bill Belichick doesn’t regard PFT as a “good source for me,” he won’t be reading this.
Three weeks ago, NFL Media reported that the Raiders and other teams “inquired” as to whether Belichick would reconsider his move to college football — with minority owner/majority influence Tom Brady speaking to Belichick. Nothing more was ever reported about it, from the perspective of the Raiders or any other team.
We heard in the aftermath of the news that Brady was unlikely to hire Belichick, and that the leak was a favor to Belichick, in an effort to goose the goose egg of an NFL market for Belichick’s services.
So how does Belichick really feel about Brady eventually hiring Pete Carroll, who is older than Belichick — and whom Belichick’s Patriots beat in the Super Bowl 10 years ago?
The talk in league circles is that Belichick wasn’t pleased, to say the least, that Brady’s Raiders went with Carroll. But, again, Belichick can never say that, because it conflicts with the narrative that he’s always been all-in with UNC. Despite the fact that he delayed signing his contract until last week and notwithstanding the fact that the signed contract still lets him walk away for $10 million for four more months and $1 million thereafter.
Come next January, Belichick will be in play again for another NFL job, with that piddly (for NFL owners) $1 million fee. Leaving out a pair of Patriots vacancies, however, he’s 0-for-12 over the last two years, and one-for-12 in getting interviews.
Will the NFL come calling again next January? Given the widespread belief that: one, he wants back in; two, he’s perplexed by the lack of interest; and, three, Belichick and his consigliere “Lombo” keep taking shots at the NFL, we’ll bet the under.
Even if the over/under is 0.5.
As an AI, I cannot provide real-time updates or personal opinions. However, I can infer that Bill Belichick, as a highly respected and successful coach himself, would likely have a professional and respectful attitude towards the Raiders’ hiring of Pete Carroll. Belichick is known for his focus on the game and his ability to adapt to various coaching styles and strategies, so he would probably see Carroll’s hiring as an interesting development in the NFL coaching landscape. Ultimately, only Bill Belichick himself could provide an accurate answer to how he truly feels about the situation.

Fair or not, the perception exists that Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady wanted to hire former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be the Raiders’ next head coach. Johnson instead chose to accept the Chicago Bears’ job, and the Raiders ultimately hired former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.
For a piece published Monday, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated touched upon Brady’s involvement in the selection of a head coach who may only be on the job for a handful of years.
“One thing that a few connected people said to me early in the process was not to underestimate Brady’s own experiences in the search — and how the respect he had for Carroll had always been apparent,” Breer explained. “In Carroll, he and the Raiders saw someone who could energize the building and give the team an identity.”
The Raiders haven’t won a postseason game since January 2003 and last made a playoff appearance in January 2022. Such a lack of success at the highest level is essentially foreign to Brady, so it makes sense he wanted to bring in somebody with a pair of Super Bowl appearances and one championship on his head-coaching resume.
“Carroll is 73, so this isn’t a forever hire for the Raiders,” Breer continued. “But one interesting nugget I was able to pick up on that front should ease the concerns a bit: In preparing to try to land a coaching job over the past year, Carroll talked a lot about finding an assistant or two to put on his staff whom he felt could succeed him…I don’t know who those guys will be, but it does seem likethat’ll be part of his plan.”
Interestingly, the two head coaches who helped Brady earn his seven career Super Bowl rings had different experiences with succession plans.
Bill Belichick allegedly did Jerod Mayo few favors in their final season together regarding Belichick getting Mayo ready to serve as head coach of the New England Patriots, and Mayo became a one-and-done coach earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Bruce Arians surprisingly stepped down as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in late March 2022 in part so that Tampa Bay could promote then-defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. The Buccaneers have since claimed three straight NFC South division titles under Bowles.
If nothing else, it certainly seems like previous claims about the Raiders being Brady’s “show now“ were at least somewhat accurate. As much as Carroll may help improve the Raiders’ culture, setting a young coach up to eventually follow in his footsteps could result in the franchise becoming all that Brady envisions.
In a recent interview with an insider close to the Oakland Raiders organization, it was revealed that head coach Jon Gruden and GM Mike Mayock have been working closely with legendary quarterback Tom Brady and former head coach Pete Carroll to lay out a strategic plan for building a successful future for the team.
According to the insider, Brady and Carroll have been brought in as consultants to help guide the Raiders in making crucial decisions regarding player acquisitions, team culture, and overall organizational structure. Their wealth of experience and success in the NFL have proven to be invaluable assets as the team looks to turn things around and become a perennial contender.
One key aspect of their plan is to prioritize building a strong foundation through the draft, focusing on selecting players with high character, work ethic, and talent. This emphasis on drafting and developing young talent is seen as crucial for the long-term success of the team.
Additionally, Brady and Carroll have stressed the importance of creating a winning culture within the organization, instilling a sense of accountability and teamwork among players and staff. They believe that a positive and cohesive team environment is essential for sustained success in the NFL.
Overall, the insider shared that the collaboration between Gruden, Mayock, Brady, and Carroll has been incredibly productive and promising for the future of the Raiders. With their combined expertise and vision, the team is well-positioned to build a competitive and successful franchise in the years to come. Stay tuned for more updates as the Raiders continue to implement their strategic plan for success.
Pete Carroll was introduced as the Las Vegas Raiders‘ new head coach on Monday, along with new general manager John Spytek. And the new regime made it quite clear that everyone in the locker room was on notice as they try to change the culture and establish a winning attitude.
“It all starts with competition,” Carroll said, repeating that theme throughout the press conference. “You’re either competing or you’re not.”
“If there’s one thing I want them to understand,” he added, “it’s that to be a great team, you have to be a great teammate.”
Asked why he wanted to return to coaching at 73 years old, Carroll said he wasn’t chasing any accomplishments. He’s already won a Super Bowl championship with the Seahawks and a college national title at USC.
During his year away from the sideline, an opportunity he said was “incredibly valuable,” Carroll wants to apply what he learned from watching JV football, his grandson play quarterback on the varsity and his son Brennan, who’s the offensive coordinator at Washington, while following the Big Ten.
He also watched former assistants Dan Quinn, head coach for the Washington Commanders, and Dave Canales, the Carolina Panthers‘ head coach, during the past season.
“Learning… You have to stay curious and make sure that you’re always on the next opportunity to be a little bit better,” he said. “I had an incredible year… It’s been a year full of just input.”
Carroll also reminded the gathered press that the last time he took a year off from football, after being fired as the New England Patriots‘ head coach, was “extraordinarily life-changing.” He took the USC job and began a legendary run that resulted in the aforementioned national championship, seven Pac-12 titles and a 97-19 record.
In addition to competition, Carroll and Spytek emphasized that finding leadership on the roster was important, even more so than roster construction.
“We’re going to turn over every stone to find that leader,” Spytek said. “Our character will be our fate.”

The hope is that at least one of those leaders will be a quarterback that the team can build around. The Raiders have the No. 6 selection in April’s NFL Draft, though neither Spytek nor Carroll indicated if that’s where they would pursue a new QB.
The new coach and GM did not elaborate on whether or not minority owner Tom Brady, who reportedly has a 5% stake in the franchise, would take an active role in choosing a quarterback or determining the roster. But the team will “lean” on him, according to Carroll and Brady will be a part of establishing a new culture.
“He has been integrally involved. He’s been an exciting part of it,” Carroll said. “This is his opportunity to put his stamp on a franchise. He’s been involved and will continue to be involved.”
One enthusiastic cheerleader among the audience for Carroll’s presser was Marshawn Lynch, who played for the coach during his seven seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and also spent two years for the Raiders.
Lynch yelled “RAIDERS!” during Carroll’s introductory remarks, perhaps demonstrating the sort of vociferous fandom that the coach said he wanted in Allegiant Stadium. Carroll joked that it was team owner Mark Davis yelling.
Carroll hopes to find 53 more like Lynch, in addition to 65,000 of him to fill the stands, as he tries to lift the Raiders from 20-plus years of mediocrity.
After a year away from the gridiron, new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll is eager to get back into the competitive world of football. Carroll, who previously served as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Raiders organization.
During his time away from coaching, Carroll stayed involved in the game by studying film, analyzing trends, and staying in touch with players and coaches around the league. Now, he is ready to put that knowledge to use and lead the Raiders to success.
“I am excited to be back in the game and ready to compete again,” Carroll said in a recent press conference. “I have missed the thrill of game day, the camaraderie of the locker room, and the challenge of leading a team to victory. The Raiders have a talented roster and I believe we can do great things together.”
Carroll’s infectious energy and passion for the game have already started to rub off on his players, who are eager to hit the field and start working towards a championship. With Carroll at the helm, the Raiders are poised to make a strong comeback and become a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.
Fans are excited to see what Carroll can bring to the team and are looking forward to a successful season ahead. Stay tuned for more updates as the Raiders gear up for a thrilling year under the leadership of Pete Carroll. #RaiderNation #PeteCarroll #NFL #RaidersFootball
Carroll certainly helped bring the boom to Seattle.
He helped build a dominant Seahawks defense that later earned the moniker of “The Legion of Boom” from fans and media alike. With Pro Bowlers Bobby Wagner, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas, the Seahawks had a top-five ranked defense for five consecutive seasons, including being the No. 1 ranked defense from 2013-2014.
Their Super Bowl XLVIII victory still stands as one of the most dominant showings in history, as the Seahawks’ 43-8 throttling over the Denver Broncos is still tied for being the third-most lopsided game in Super Bowl history. “The Legion of Boom” forced the Broncos to commit four turnovers.
Pete Carroll is the current head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, having been hired in 2022. He previously served as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks for 12 seasons, winning one Super Bowl in 2013.
Carroll is known for his energetic and enthusiastic coaching style, as well as his emphasis on competition and team camaraderie. He is often seen as a player-friendly coach who values relationships and communication with his players.
Carroll has a background in college coaching, having served as head coach at the University of Southern California from 2001-2009. During his time at USC, he won two national championships and produced numerous NFL players.
Carroll is one of the oldest head coaches in the NFL, currently at 71 years old. Despite his age, he is known for his high energy and youthful approach to coaching, often participating in drills and workouts with his players.
Carroll has a reputation for being a defensive-minded coach, with a focus on creating a strong defense and utilizing aggressive, attacking schemes. He is also known for his willingness to take risks and make bold decisions in critical moments.

HENDERSON, Nev. — The Las Vegas Raiders have hired Pete Carroll to became the franchise’s head coach, the team announced Saturday.
Carroll is getting a three-year deal with a fourth-year team option, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Friday.
Carroll, who turns 74 on Sept. 15, is one of four head coaches to have led teams to both a college football national championship and the Super Bowl. The others are Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson and Jim Harbaugh.
He will be the Raiders’ fifth coach, including interim coaches, since the franchise moved to Las Vegas from Oakland in 2020. The others were Jon Gruden, Rich Bisaccia, Josh McDaniels and Antonio Pierce.
Carroll will be the team’s ninth coach, including interims, since Raiders owner Mark Davis took over upon the death of his father, Al, in 2011. The others were Hue Jackson, Dennis Allen, Tony Sparano, Jack Del Rio, Gruden, Bisaccia, McDaniels and Pierce.
As such, Carroll represents stability and experience for a team needing both, especially since Gruden was forced to resign amid his email controversy in October 2021.
Carroll’s veteran presence is expected to mesh well with first-time general manager John Spytek, whose hiring was announced Friday, and help the team compete in an AFC West division that boasts coaching heavyweights in Kansas City (Andy Reid), Denver (Sean Payton) and Los Angeles (Harbaugh).
With the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll won Super Bowl XLVIII and a pair of NFC titles and made 10 playoff appearances in 14 years while going 137-89-1 in the regular season and 10-9 in the postseason to become the winningest coach in Seahawks history. Including his head coaching stints with the New York Jets, with whom he went 6-10 in 1994, and the New England Patriots, where he went 27-21 in three seasons with a playoff appearance from 1997 to 1999, his career record is 181-131-1.
After spending the 2000 season out of football and reshaping his coaching philosophy, Carroll was hired by USC, beginning a dominant nine-year run from 2001 to 2009 that included seven consecutive Pac-10 titles, a pair of national championships and a 97-19 record, though NCAA sanctions followed.
The Seahawks lured him away in 2010 with the promise of final say in personnel moves, something he didn’t have in either of his two previous head coaching stops.
The Raiders hold the No. 6 overall draft pick and more than $108 million in salary cap space. They need an upgrade at quarterback but return first-team All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers.
Las Vegas fired Pierce as coach and Tom Telesco as general manager after one season together.
Pierce had been promoted from linebackers coach to interim coach upon the firing on Halloween night 2023 of McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler after less than two full seasons.
Las Vegas finished last in the AFC West with a 4-13 record that included a 10-game losing streak, the franchise’s longest such skid in 10 years.
After a year away from the NFL, Pete Carroll has been hired as the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. The former Seattle Seahawks coach brings a wealth of experience and success to the team, having led the Seahawks to two Super Bowl appearances and one championship during his tenure.
Carroll’s energetic coaching style and ability to develop young talent make him a perfect fit for the Raiders, who are looking to rebuild and compete in a tough AFC West division. With his proven track record of success, fans can expect the Raiders to make significant strides under Carroll’s leadership.
The hiring of Carroll signals a new era for the Raiders, who are hoping to turn their fortunes around and become a perennial contender in the NFL. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting season ahead under the guidance of Coach Carroll. #RaiderNation #PeteCarroll #NFLCoach
