  • Sling just gave its DVR feature a massive upgrade — but there’s a catch

Sling is our pick for the best cable alternative. You get a ton of features, can pick from multiple channel packages and premium add-ons, and despite a recent price hike, it’s still cheaper than its competition. Yes, that includes the recently announced DirecTV MySports sports-only streaming package. But one thing where it falls short is its cloud DVR, which had been capped at 200 hours of storage.

“With Unlimited DVR and our exclusive Auto Record, Sling TV continues to redefine what value and convenience look like for streaming customers. This enhancement ensures that our subscribers can capture and enjoy their favorite shows, movies, and events on their terms, anytime and anywhere.”

Seth Van Sickel, SVP Product and Operations, DISH Video Services

Thankfully, that’s now changed. Sling announced in a press release yesterday (Jan. 15) that it’s upgrading its premium DVR Plus add-on from 200 hours of maximum storage to unlimited cloud storage, and keeps your recordings stored for up to nine months. In a fitting move, Sling is also rebranding the name of this feature to Unlimited DVR.

Sling just gave its DVR feature a massive upgrade — but there’s a catch

Sling TV users have been eagerly awaiting the rollout of the highly anticipated DVR feature upgrade, and it’s finally here. The streaming service announced that users can now enjoy 50 hours of DVR storage, up from the previous 10 hours. This is a significant improvement that will undoubtedly enhance the viewing experience for Sling subscribers.

However, there is a catch. While the increase in storage capacity is undoubtedly a welcome change, it comes with a price. Sling TV has implemented a new pricing structure for the DVR feature, with the additional storage now costing an extra $5 per month. This means that users who want to take advantage of the increased DVR capacity will have to shell out more money each month.

While some users may balk at the added cost, others may see it as a worthwhile investment in order to have more flexibility and convenience when it comes to recording and storing their favorite shows. Ultimately, the decision to upgrade to the new DVR feature will depend on individual preferences and viewing habits.

Overall, Sling’s DVR feature upgrade is a step in the right direction, providing users with more options and control over their viewing experience. However, the added cost may be a deterrent for some. It will be interesting to see how users respond to this change and whether it will have a significant impact on Sling TV’s subscriber base.

Moore, the No. 1 ranked WR in the 2025 class, was double-teamed on the play, but that didn’t stop him from elevating over the top of both and making a one-handed grab, Odell Beckham Jr. style. To make it an even more incredible highlight, Moore took the ball, threw one defender off of him, and then ran 30 yards for the touchdown.

Here’s where you can watch the TD catch.

For Oregon fans, this is quite the sight to see, with expectations that Moore can come in as a true freshman and provide an instant impact. That’s a big ask, but we’ve seen it happen this past year with Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith and Alabama’s Ryan Williams starring as true freshmen in 2024.

Moore was named Co-Offensive MVP of the Polynesian Bowl, alongside USC Trojans 5-star quarterback signee Husan Longstreet.

  • Watch: Oregon signee Dakorien Moore makes ridiculous, one-handed catch between two defenders

The Oregon Ducks appear to be getting something special in soon-to-be freshman wide receiver Dakorien Moore.

After a decorated high school career in Duncanville, Texas filled with jaw-dropping highlights, Moore added another to his reel on Friday night playing for Team Makai in the 2025 Polynesian Bowl.

Moore went up for a one-handed catch between two defenders, able to elude both after the catch en route to a 75-yard, game-winning touchdown. Team Makai beat Team Mauka, 28-21, in front of a rowdy crowd of fans in Honolulu that included Heisman winner Travis Hunter, who tried to celebrate with Moore after the touchdown.

Hunter slipped on the field, though, taking out Moore’s legs and perhaps causing some Oregon fans’ hearts to drop. Thankfully, both athletes were okay after falling, and the celebration continued.

Moore is one of Oregon’s highest-rated recruits ever, a consensus five-star prospect rated the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 4 overall player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

  • Vikings fans, let’s catch you up on the Timberwolves – Twin Cities

The local professional football team again failed when it mattered most after an enthralling regular season, leaving its ardent supporters to pick up the pieces of their broken hearts and find a new target for their sports fandom for the time being.

One of the places they’ll look to is Target Center. After all, the Timberwolves captured the hearts and minds of Minnesota sports fanatics last spring as they trekked to the Western Conference Finals behind a dominant defense and the heroics of young star guard Anthony Edwards.

Jace Frederick column sigHey, April and May were fun! Who wouldn’t want to jump back onto that train?

Fair warning: While the destination is still to be determined, the route is a little funkier this time around.

Let’s catch the Vikings fans up to speed by answering a few questions:

Are they back near the top of the West again?

Eh, well, not exactly. They are actually in eighth place as of Tuesday afternoon.

    EIGHTH?!

Yeah, but that can be a little deceiving. It’s currently Oklahoma City (32-6) atop the West, with a massive canyon between the Thunder and everyone else. Teams No. 5-12 are separated by just three games. Minnesota (21-18) is currently 1½ games out of the fourth seed, but just two games north of 12th.

Much is still to be determined.

Does the Wolves’ defense still strike fear into opponents?

Sometimes! A historically good unit a year ago, Minnesota’s defense is currently fifth in the NBA, surrendering 109.6 points per 100 possessions.

There have been rough patches. Jaden McDaniels has started slow, and Rudy Gobert hasn’t had the same impact on the interior many nights. Julius Randle had to improve his attention to detail and take on more defensive responsibilities, and Anthony Edwards continues to search for consistency game to game — er, possession to possession — on that end.

When the Wolves are at their best, a dominant defense is still what leads the charge. The dominance simply isn’t as consistent as it was a year ago.

Is Ant the best player ever, or what?

Sometimes! Edwards’ popularity surged during the playoffs, setting sky-high external expectations for the 23-year-old this season. He walked into this season with a 3-point shot that’s as good and consistent as you’ll find in the NBA.

But Edwards has struggled with the additional defensive attention he’s seeing and at times  has been frustrated by the lack of answers he has for the questions being raised by opposing schemes. There have been more signs of progress over the last two weeks — Edwards scored 41 points thanks to a fourth-quarter outburst Monday in Washington — but consistency has yet to be achieved.

How’s that KAT trade working out?

That’s tough to gauge at this point. Randle’s fit with Minnesota is far from seamless, though the Wolves have found a few combinations of late that appear a little less clunky. Randle now trails only Nickeil Alexander-Walker in net rating among rotation players, but Randle will have maddening isolation possessions that end with turnovers or bad shots, much like Edwards but without the booms.

But Randle also has injected pace and a baseline level of production while not complaining when asked to do different things.

Donte DiVincenzo was slow out of the gates but has largely recaptured the rhythm he played with down the stretch a year ago with the Knicks, and there are many nights where he looks like a suitable running mate for Edwards.

So it’s not all doom and gloom?

Far from it. DiVincenzo, McDaniels and Naz Reid are all settling into more consistent grooves, and the team is better for it. This team’s ceiling may not be championship contender, and they are at times a tough watch, but Minnesota is still an evolving product and has the talent level to compete with anyone on any given evening.

    Are the rookies any good?

We’ll let you know when they play.

Did I hear I’m a Pistons fan now?

Yes! As part of the Towns trade, Minnesota received a protected first-round pick via Detroit. The pick is top-14 protected this season, so the assumption was it wouldn’t transfer for this summer’s draft. Because, well, the Pistons have stunk for years. But they’re pretty good now! After beating the Knicks on Monday, Detroit is currently 21-19, and if the season ended today, Minnesota would own the No. 15 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Does A-Rod own the team yet?

Not yet! The arbitration process to determine whether Glen Taylor was within his rights to terminate the sale to Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez is in its final stages. Both sides have concluded all arguments and submitted all documentation, and the three-person panel is slated to levy its decision within the next month.

As a reminder, if the arbiters rule on behalf of Rodriguez and Lore, the NBA Board of Governors will still need to approve the duo as majority owners. For the time being, Taylor — who has been absent from Target Center as he recovers from a hip replacement — is still the controlling owner.

Hey Vikings fans, it’s time to get caught up on what’s been happening with the Timberwolves in the Twin Cities! From exciting player acquisitions to thrilling games, here’s a recap of what you may have missed:

    1. The Timberwolves made a big splash in the offseason by acquiring star point guard D’Angelo Russell in a trade with the Golden State Warriors. Russell brings scoring and playmaking abilities to the team, forming a dynamic duo with Karl-Anthony Towns.

    2. Speaking of Towns, the All-Star center has been putting up impressive numbers this season, showcasing his versatility and leadership on the court. He continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the league.

    3. The Timberwolves have had some exciting wins this season, including a thrilling victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in overtime. The team has shown resilience and determination in close games, proving they have what it takes to compete with the best in the NBA.

    4. With a talented roster and a new head coach in Chris Finch, the Timberwolves are looking to make a push for the playoffs this season. The team is hungry for success and eager to show fans what they are capable of achieving.

So Vikings fans, if you haven’t been keeping up with the Timberwolves, now is the perfect time to jump on board and support our Twin Cities basketball team. Let’s cheer on the Timberwolves as they continue to make strides towards success in the NBA! #Timberwolves #TwinCities #NBA #VikingsFansUnite

  • American WTA Legend Finds It Hard to Catch Australian Open Action While Being Stuck With Rescue Cats in LA

The Australian Open is in full swing, buzzing with electric energy. Victories are being celebrated with ecstatic cheers, while defeats bring moments of quiet reflection. But amidst all the action on the courts, Donna Vekic’s legendary coach, Pam Shriver is facing an unexpected struggle—off the courts. Shriver is finding herself in an emotional tug-of-war as she watches Vekic rack up sensational wins. Why, you ask? Let’s find out.

Donna Vekic is making some giant strides in Melbourne and has qualified for the third round of the tournament. Her second match turned out to be a little dramatic, as she lost the first set against Harriet Dart. However, she managed to put her claws back into the match and went on to win the remaining two sets to advance further. While her fans watched her play with bated breath, her coach Shriver faced significant challenges to stream the match.

Taking to X, the 62-year-old commented on a video that highlighted Vekic’s dominant comeback in the match. Shriver wrote, “Watched” match point by point on AO app but could not figure out how to find it streamed in US. You don’t sweat the small stuff in LA atm!! ”

Remember, Shriver could not make it to Melbourne and decided to stay back at her home in Los Angeles to help her friends and family fight the devastating wildfires. Just hours before Vekic’s first match, Shriver shared her situation on X and wrote “With @AustralianOpen start @espn & @DonnaVekic playing later today, I am back in LA helping manage my family’s needs.”  But this is not the only challenge that the American veteran is facing.

Donna Vekic’s match has kept her coach awake and sleep-deprived, quite literally. Sharing the same in yet another post, Shriver wrote, “I have never slept in same room as three rescue cats, but these are unusual times in LA. I am starting at 4:45am because long played  with Donna’s match. Starting at 4:50 am how much sleep can I get?” While it is not known yet why Shriver is sleeping in the same room with three rescue cats, it can be attributed to the devastation caused by the wildfires.

At least 25 precious lives have been lost so far and over 10,000 structures have turned into rubble due to the wildfires. Besides, more than 153,000 people evacuated their homes, with the insured losses amounting to over $8 Billion. While the condition of Shriver’s home is not known yet, her latest posts are definitely not encouraging for her fans. Coming back to her partnership with Vekic, this is not the first time that the American coach has been unable to watch her mentee play in a crucial tournament.

During the Paris Olympics last year, when Vekic clinched the silver medal, her coach was not there to witness her achieve remarkable glory due to a family engagement. And yet again, her commitment to family has taken center stage over Vekic’s campaign.

Vekic, however, did not fail to pay her tributes to Shriver at the Australian Open

Really miss her”- When Donna Vekic shared compassionate remarks for Pam Shriver

Donna Vekic has been receiving continuous support from Pam Shriver for over a year now. Hence, not having her in her box during a grand slam is definitely saddening for the star player. It is for this reason, that soon after defeating Diane Parry in the first round, Vekic shared an emotional take, when quizzed about her coach’s absence.

Speaking in the interview, Vekic said, “It’s a very difficult situation for her. She’s home in LA, her house is okay for now, but so many have lost everything, and it’s a very horrible situation.” Continuing further, she added, “We were doing our preseason in LA this year, so we were just there two weeks ago. I really cannot believe what’s happening. We’re very sad that she’s not here with us. We really miss her, and I hope everything will be okay.”

As the tournament unfolds, fans can’t help but wonder: will Shriver overcome her challenges and visit Melbourne anytime soon? While that remains uncertain, it will be interesting to see how far can Vekic rise in her coach’s absence.

As an American WTA legend, I never imagined that I would be missing out on one of the biggest tennis tournaments of the year – the Australian Open. But here I am, stuck in Los Angeles with a pack of rescue cats that seem to demand my attention at all hours of the day.

I’ve always been a fan of the Australian Open, with its intense matches and thrilling upsets. But now, as I try to catch a glimpse of the action on my TV between feeding, grooming, and playing with my feline companions, I can’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy towards those lucky enough to be sitting courtside in Melbourne.

Despite the challenges of being a cat owner, I wouldn’t trade these furry friends for anything in the world. They bring me joy and comfort, even if it means missing out on some of the excitement of the tennis world.

So as I navigate the chaos of cat ownership and try to sneak in a few minutes of tennis viewing here and there, I’ll just have to live vicariously through the updates and highlights of the Australian Open. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to make it back to the courts myself – but for now, I’ll just have to settle for cuddling up with my rescue cats in LA.

  • Pro Bowl Selections Send Message For Zac Taylor; Catch If You Can Tireless Ja’Marr Chase And Steelers Nemesis Tee Higgins; Mims, Chase Brown Game-Time Calls

Pro Bowl Selections Send Message For Zac Taylor; Catch If You Can Tireless Ja’Marr Chase And Steelers Nemesis Tee Higgins; Mims, Chase Brown Game-Time Calls

    UNDERDOG STORY

Backup tackle Devin Cochran has seen all but one of his first 151 NFL snaps come in the last three weeks as he’s come off the bench to help keep the Bengals unscathed in the playoff chase.

With Taylor basically calling rookie right tackle Amarius Mims (ankle/hand) a game-time decision after he didn’t practice Thursday, we could see Cochran again.

Either way it works out, what a three weeks it’s been for him.

He found out he was making his first start in Tennessee about 90 minutes before the Dec. 15 game when Cody Ford got ill and couldn’t back up left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. The next week against Cleveland, Cochran played 22 snaps as Mims dealt with those ankle and hand issues and last Saturday night he played the final 60 snaps after Mims took the first 30.

And, oh yeah, he missed Tuesday’s walkthrough when his first child, Ezekiel “Zeke,” Cochran, was born in the middle of the night.

Following it all has been offensive line guru Jim McNally, the Bengals’ long-time assistant coach on their first two Super Bowl teams and later a consultant to offensive line coach Frank Pollack.

It was when he was a consultant a few years ago during the undrafted Cochran’s rookie year that McNally bumped into him in the lobby of the AC Hotel at The Banks.

“He gave me a compliment of how I looked in training camp. I was like, ‘Really?” Cochran said this week. “From that point on. The next offseason I was looking for some trips I could make to find out different things like I do every year. I reached out and he was excited to help.”

Cochran went to the 81-year-old McNally’s hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., for a couple of days and got the full Mac treatment, which is intense teaching all the time.

“Dude, he’s a maniac. You ever see him do pullups?” Cochran asked. “He’s big on fast feet, fast hands, proactive hands. Taking the fight to the defender. Like Frank,” Cochran said. “Eliminating time and space.”

Cochran, a Vanderbilt undergrad and Georgia Tech grad student, is used to homework. He consumes it all from Pollack and assistant O-line coach Derek Frazier. And if he can do or get extra, he does. McNally has also been sending along critiques. There may be a 60-year gap there, but football closes it fast.

“He’s been happy and that’s been awesome,” said Cochran, who knows his own game. “I think (he likes) the mindset. He’s an old-school guy. He likes that brawling, brutal type of thing.”

The Pro Bowl selections have been announced, and there is a clear message for Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor: unleash the dynamic duo of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins on the field.

Chase, the tireless playmaker out of LSU, has been a force to be reckoned with all season long. His speed, agility, and hands have made him one of the most dangerous receivers in the league. Higgins, on the other hand, has been a thorn in the side of the Pittsburgh Steelers, consistently making big plays when it matters most.

With these two weapons at his disposal, Taylor has the opportunity to create some game-changing plays in the Pro Bowl. Whether it’s a deep bomb to Chase or a clutch catch by Higgins, the possibilities are endless.

But Taylor should also keep an eye on other potential game-time playmakers, such as Denzel Mims and Chase Brown. These two have shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season and could provide some much-needed spark in crucial moments.

So, Taylor, the message is clear: catch if you can with Chase and Higgins, and be ready to make some game-time calls with Mims and Brown. The Pro Bowl is your chance to showcase the talent of these young stars, so make the most of it.

  • Can returning Alex Ovechkin still catch Wayne Gretzky this season? Teammates: ‘Everything’s in play’

As Alex Ovechkin began ramping up toward resuming his pursuit of the NHL’s all-time goals record, some of his Washington Capitals teammates found themselves running the numbers.

Ovechkin needs 27 goals to pass Wayne Gretzky’s career total, and he’s got 48 games left on the Capitals’ schedule to try to get it done this season, starting with Saturday’s visit to Toronto, which the team announced will mark his return.

That equates to a clip of 0.56 goals per game — unquestionably a high bar, particularly for a 39-year-old coming off the longest injury absence of his career.

But it’s not an impossible one to clear.

Ovechkin has scored at a pace beyond that in 14 of his 19 previous NHL seasons, and he was off to the best goal-scoring start of his entire career when he suffered a broken left fibula during an accidental collision with Utah’s Jack McBain in November.

So even with 16 games lost to injury, the Capitals aren’t ruling out a run at the record before the end of 2024-25.

“The pace he was going at, I feel like everything’s in play,” Dylan Strome told The Athletic recently. “This guy does things that you can only imagine.”

“With him, I feel like nothing’s impossible,” added defenseman Rasmus Sandin.

Strome has drawn an assist on 12 of the 15 goals Ovechkin has scored this season. What he noticed was how confident the Capitals captain seemed just before suffering the injury — scoring the 32nd hat trick of his career in Vegas on Nov. 17 and adding two more goals the following night in Utah before getting knocked out of the game by a third-period collision with McBain.

“He had 15 (goals) in 18 (games) and he probably would have had 16 in 18 in that game that he got hurt in,” said Strome.

Ovechkin’s scoring surge saw him become the first NHL player aged 39 or older to score 11 goals in a 10-game span.

It also ramped up the anticipation for his pursuit of Gretzky’s all-time record.

Strome is in his third season with the Capitals and was there the night Ovechkin joined Gretzky and Gordie Howe as the only players in NHL history to hit the 800-goal mark in December 2022, but he said the excitement around Ovechkin’s scoring exploits reached a new level inside the Capitals dressing room this season.

“I’ve noticed a huge difference even compared to last year,” Strome said. “Just really every goal, everyone’s talking about it. At the beginning (of the season) everyone didn’t know if there was going to be a chance to break it this year, and then he started to score and score and score, so then it was like ‘OK, he’s definitely going to break it this year.’ Then he gets hurt.

“So now it’s back to the waiting game. Everyone’s excited, you can tell. When he scores in the road arenas, the place is loud. Everyone wants to see him score, so it’s a cool thing to be a part of and it’s exciting.”

The Capitals have been one of the most pleasant surprises of this season. They managed to go 10-5-1 while Ovechkin was out of the lineup and sit atop the Eastern Conference standings in points percentage (.706).

Welcoming him back to enter the second half will be a shot in the arm, according to head coach Spencer Carbery.

“There is a void with your captain and a personality like Alex Ovechkin not being on the bus, not being in the locker room, not being at morning skates, not being in the meetings,” Carbery said earlier this month. “I can tell you for sure there will be a jolt in energy to our group when (he returns).”

The possibility of him chasing down one of the sport’s most glamorous records is an added bonus.

Ovechkin’s start was so strong that it necessitated a discussion at the NHL’s Board of Governors meetings earlier this month. The league has started to plan for how it will cover and celebrate the milestone in the event that Ovechkin can match Gretzky’s 894 career goals before the end of the season.

“He’s been tremendous this year and, listen, I know how hard it is at that age,” Gretzky said. “It gets tougher and tougher, but he’s hung in there and he’s a trooper. (The goal chase is) good for the sport, it’s great for the game, and hopefully I’m there to shake his hand the night he breaks the record.”

Gretzky has already agreed to join NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on the road to be there in person once Ovechkin gets within striking distance of the record. And teammates will be doing everything in their power to help Ovechkin get there before the playoffs.

“I wouldn’t put it past him to at least be really close to the record,” Strome said. “I feel like if he’s that close, it’s going to happen at the end of this year.

    “I hope.”

With the NHL season in full swing, the question on many hockey fans’ minds is whether or not Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin can catch Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal scoring record this year. Ovechkin, who recently returned to the Capitals after missing time due to injury, has been on a tear since his comeback, scoring goals at a blistering pace.

Teammates and coaches of Ovechkin have expressed confidence in his ability to make a push for Gretzky’s record this season. “Everything’s in play,” said one teammate, highlighting Ovechkin’s scoring prowess and determination to be the best.

Gretzky’s record of 894 goals has stood for decades, but Ovechkin has been steadily climbing the ranks and is currently sitting at 750 goals. With each goal he scores, the possibility of catching Gretzky becomes more and more realistic.

As Ovechkin continues to light the lamp and lead the Capitals on their quest for a Stanley Cup, fans will be eagerly watching to see if he can make history this season. Will he surpass Gretzky’s record? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain – Ovechkin’s return has injected new life into the race for the all-time goal scoring title.
