  • All the Broadway Cameos in CBS’ Elsbeth Season 2, Part 1

CBS’s hit investigative murder mystery series Elsbeth is back for season 2! The spin-off series from The Good Wife franchise has returned with Emmy-winner and Broadway alum Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni, “an astute but unconventional attorney who uses her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD,” according to the official synopsis.

Returning to the second season are Broadway performers Wendell Pierce (Death of a Salesman) and Carra Patterson (Jitney) as precinct captain C.W. Wagner and partner in justice Office Kaya Bianke, respectively.

Like many of our favorite crime dramas, Elsbeth takes place and films in New York City. What does that mean for us theatre fans? Lots of familiar Broadway faces making guest star appearances, that’s what! Last spring, we gave you some of our favorite cameos that appeared in the premiere season, and we’re back to give you more. So far, the hit show has had Tony winners and nominees, a Dear Evan Hansen alum, and even a familiar face from The Good Wife. While we joked about it in our last recap, could this mean the possibility of more cameos from The Good Wife franchise (hint: Audra McDonald or Christine Baranski)?

Whatever the future holds for Elsbeth and her team, we’ll be watching. The second half of season 2 begins January 30. In the meantime, you can catch up on season 1 and the first eight episodes of season 2, now streaming on Paramount+.

Stop reading now if you want to avoid spoilers.

Season 2, Episode 1: Subscription to Murder

Well, there are a few ways to make a big splash for your season two premiere, and what better way than an appearance from three-time Tony winner Nathan Lane! Lane plays an opera-obsessed perfectionist whose nights at the opera are suddenly sullied when a Wall Street himbo (played by Corey Mach) sits directly in front of Lane. Wouldn’t a ruined evening caused by ringing (and answered) phones, loud potato chip chewing, and more antics drive anyone to the brink? Elsbeth is on the case, working with Prayer for the French Republic‘s Daniel Oreskes as Detective Buzz Fleming.

    John Behlmann and Carrie Preston
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

    Episode 2: The Wrong Stuff

Billionaires. They’re just like us, right? When training to travel to a space station, a group of billionaires become murder suspects when one of them is killed in a not-so-freak “accident” during a session. To help Elsbeth solve the case, the NY Fire Department is called in to help assess the explosion. Enter Fire Marshall Jake Turling played by the ever-so-dreamy John Behlmann (Smash), who might be trying to start some romantic flames of his own with Elsbeth.

Making a small cameo this episode is Broadway favorite Christian Borle, who is actually known to Good Wife. Borle reprises his role as Chicago lawyer Carter Schmidt who worked with Elsbeth at her previous firm. Schmidt warns that a past divorce case they worked on might be coming back to haunt them. Hopefully, we will see more of him in season two!

    Episode 3: Devil’s Night

When an ex-child star, Mac, wakes up with a bad hangover, no memory of the last 24 hours, and is covered in blood, Elsbeth must help her recover her steps to determine if she committed murder on Halloween. Through the course of the investigation, the team attends a party thrown by Mac’s friend and former producer Roya (How to Dance in Ohio‘s Haven Burton). Could Roya’s pet monkey and invisible ink hand stamps be the key to figuring out whodunnit?

    Vanessa Williams and Carrie Preston
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

Episode 4: Diamonds Are for Elsbeth

If there is one thing people love to watch, it’s an elaborate jewel heist. And what do people enjoy watching more than that? A heist gone bad! Broadway and screen royalty Vanessa Williams (West End’s The Devil Wears Prada) plays Roslyn Bridwell, a fading socialite whose funds have dried up and will soon be kicked out of one of the most exclusive jewelry stores in NYC. But she isn’t going down without a fight. Williams’ character hatches a scheme with a ragtag team, including disgruntled store employee Judith (Becky Ann Baker), to pull it off. However, everything does not go to plan and some drastic measures must be taken.

    Carrie Preston and Laura Benanti
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

Episode 5: Elsbeth Flips the Bird

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Elsbeth investigates the attack on a world-renowned chef and the death of a staff member at her five-star restaurant. The episode sees a return of not one, but two season 1 Broadway guest stars. First, leading the case (though let’s be honest, no detective is really in charge if Elsbeth is involved) is NYPD Detective Edwards, played by Tony nominee Micaela Diamond. Also back is Tony winner Laura Benanti playing supermodel (now turned friend) Nadine Clay, who uses her VIP status to help Elsbeth gain access to a seat at the chef’s table. If there is one thing you can count on with a Benanti cameo is some great one-liners and laughs…even when murder is afoot.

The episode also features a short cameo from Ciara Renée (Waitress) as pop star TruRose. The singer is filing for divorce from one of Elsbeth’s former clients in Chicago and pleads for help, while ominously telling Elsbeth that helping her can make right the things she did for her former husband. Could this be the mystery case that Borle’s character warned about in episode two?

    Carrie Preston
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

Episode 6: Gold, Frankincense, and Murder

Murder? At Christmas? Crime never takes a holiday at Elsbeth when Broadway funnyman Christopher Fitzgerald‘s (Spamalot) character Dirk Dasher, a celebrity Christmas curator, hatches a sinister plan to get rid of his wife. Unfortunately, the plan backfires. And who is witness to it all? & Juliet‘s Michael Ivan Carrier as Laird, the overworked, abused, and drama queen executive assistant to celebrity fashion editor Gisela Mott. Nothing says Happy Holidays like homicide!

Also, in a fun surprise for fans of the show and Broadway, Ben Levi Ross (Dear Evan Hansen) guest stars as Elsbeth’s son Teddy. We’ve heard her talk about him since season 1 and fans finally get to meet the son of the proud lawyer turned consultant. If I was a betting man, I’d wager we might get to see more Ross in the future.

    Nikki Crawford
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

    Episode 7: One Angry Woman

What happens when our heroine is called in for jury duty? A whole shmorgishborg of Broadway guest stars! Elsbeth is selected to serve on the jury for a woman accused of killing her neighbor (who’s also her secret lover). Serving as the prosecutor is Fat Ham‘s Tony nominee Nikki Crawford, with Max Crumm (The Connector) and Sasha Hutchings (Gypsy) as fellow juror members. Crumm’s character has other motives for being on the jury and Hutchings is a businesswoman desperate to finish the case and get back to her job. With Broadway stars surrounding Elsbeth, jury duty has never been more fun.

    Laurie Metcalf and Carrie Preston
    Michael Parmelee/CBS

    Episode 8: Toil and Trouble

in the mid-series finale, it’s “lights, camera, action” for the NYPD team as they investigate the murder of the showrunner of a long-running crime series. It’s one of the more graphic deaths from this series so far (I mean, how often do you see someone take the heel of a stiletto through the eye?). The fictional series’ leading lady Regina Coburn (played by two-time Tony winner Laurie Metcalf) is desperate to be rid of the long-running series so that she can pursue real acting: performing as Lady M in the Scottish play in the West End. But to what extreme is she willing to go to finally escape her career prison? Enter KPOP‘s Amy Keum as the victim’s assistant. She’s all-seeing and all-knowing when it comes to the comings and goings of her former boss. Could she be the key to solving the mystery? If this isn’t a lesson in being kind to the assistants of the world, I don’t know what is. They might just help with your murder investigation!

Meanwhile, could love be in the air for one of our series regulars? Patterson’s character is on the hunt for a new roommate and might have found the perfect candidate in doctor-turned-coroner Cameron Clayden. Played by Slave Play‘s Sullivan Jones, could this perfect roommate also be a love connection?

Season One and the first eight episodes of Season Two of Elsbeth are now available to stream on Paramount+.

  • CBS’ New Detective Show Tells The Major Story BBC’s Sherlock Skipped Over

BBC’s Sherlock was utterly iconic and revolutionized the way stories about Sherlock Holmes are told, but it skipped over one fascinating story that the new CBS show is about to tackle. Sherlock Holmes was created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for his 1887 novel A Study in Scarlet and went on to be a British institution and the ultimate fictional detective. Sherlock modernized the story for the screen in 2010 and CBS’ Elementary did the same in 2012. Now, CBS is bringing Watson to screens, which is Elementary’s perfect spiritual sequel, and it may fill in some of Sherlock’s blanks.

Sherlock featured the inimitable Benedict Cumberbatch in its titular role, while British favorite Martin Freeman put in a legendary turn as Sherlock’s companion, Dr. John Watson. Not long after, Elementary served the world a female Watson in the form of Lucy Liu’s Dr. Joan Watson. But in 2025, CBS is bringing another Conan Doyle show to viewers, and this Watson will be played by Morris Chestnut. Watson may reveal how Sherlock Holmes dies, and in doing so, it may be able to finally tell a story that BBC’s Sherlock should have told long ago.

CBS’ Watson Series Is All About What John Watson Does After Sherlock Fakes His Death

Morris Chestnut’s Watson Will Be Grieving Sherlock Holmes

Watson will start airing on January 26, 2025, and it will tell the story of what happens to John Watson after Sherlock Holmes dies, which is something that Sherlock didn’t cover in detail. Watson will launch into its regular schedule after the first episode and will delight in bringing a whole new version of a modernized John to the table. Watson will be tackling his own detective story in this series, which centers on Sherlock’s assistant. This unprecedented glimpse into the traditionally sidelined character promises to expose how Sherlock’s death impacted Watson, which the BBC drama should have touched on more.

CBS’ Watson Show Begins Exactly Where BBC’s Sherlock Started Losing Its Magic

Watson Will Cover A Key Part Of Sherlock Holmes Myth

John Watson talking to a patient in Watson

Watson will pick up where the high point of Sherlock left off. Sherlock got great reviews and a hugely positive audience reception in its first three seasons, but experienced some pitfalls from then on. The show tried to get funnier, which didn’t always work, with meta jokes that sometimes failed to make the most of the show’s legendary premise. Andrew Scott was unforgettable as Moriarty in Sherlock. Perhaps too unforgettable, as the show was not the same without him from season 4 onwards. Watson will pick up the slack, beginning at this point in Conan Doyle’s lore.

Sherlock Season 4’s Best Scene Is A Sad Reminder Of Where The BBC Show Went Wrong

Sherlock season 4 was the show’s weakest, and one of its best moments proves where the BBC series went wrong following two great first seasons.

Telling the story of Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick from what would be the start of Sherlock season 4, Watson has already teased Moriarty’s presence, which is exciting. The new CBS show will take place during an absolutely classic Sherlock Holmes story, and one that the BBC Sherlock show adapted in season 3. Holmes faked his own death in the last episode of Sherlock season 3, “The Reichenbach Fall,” but failed to really explain it or show the aftermath in season 4. Watson could do this while bringing Moriarty back in a more substantial way than Sherlock ever managed to.

Introducing CBS’ Newest Detective Show: “The Detective Chronicles”

Fans of the hit BBC series “Sherlock” will be thrilled to hear that CBS has just announced their latest detective show, “The Detective Chronicles”. This new show promises to dive deeper into the major storylines that “Sherlock” may have skipped over.

While “Sherlock” focused on the brilliant detective work of Sherlock Holmes and his partner, Dr. John Watson, “The Detective Chronicles” will explore the cases and mysteries that Sherlock may not have had time to solve. From unsolved murders to mysterious disappearances, this show will keep viewers on the edge of their seats as they follow the team of detectives as they crack some of the toughest cases in London.

With a talented cast, gripping storylines, and plenty of twists and turns, “The Detective Chronicles” is sure to be a must-watch for fans of crime dramas and detective shows. Don’t miss the premiere of this thrilling new series, coming soon to CBS.

  • Bills fans can only love CBS Sports prediction for Tyler Bass in divisional round

When Tyler Bass was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2020, little did we know that he would become the franchise kicker for the team. In the last couple of seasons, Bass has faced a little bit of criticism for his lack of production. It even got to the point where Bass was challenged when the Bills brought in kicking competition this past season. Since the, he has delivered for the Bills week in and week out.

He has converted 82% of his extra point attempts and has converted on 92% of his field goal tries. Prior to the 2023 season, Bass was gifted with a four-year, $20.4 million deal. It was for sure a questionable contract and last season was definitely rough for him. However, nothing was worse for Bass then when he missed a game-tying field goal against the Kansas City Chiefs in last year’s divisional round game. The Bills ended up losing 27-24 and suffered yet another heartbreak.

Tyler Bass may have the chance to change the narrative vs. Ravens

A year ago, Bass saw his kick cost the Bills a chance at a trip to the AFC championship game. His missed kick cost the Bills their third consecutive divisional round game. Now that the Bills are back at home, in the same position they were in a year ago, Tyler Bass could ultimately change the story if given the opportunity.

CBS Sports writer Pete Prisco has made the ultimate prediction of the Bills defeating the Ravens, 31-30. However, the way Prisco has the Bills winning it would make Tyler Bass the fan-favorite for the week. Prisco is projecting that the Bills will beat the Ravens due to Tyler Bass hitting a late field goal.

One, if the game came down to the point, we all know how we would be throughout the game if it was back-and-forth. Two, could you imagine the reaction from the fans in the stands when the ball goes through the goalpost to help the Bills advance to the conference championship? It would be an amazing sight.

The biggest walk-off win that Bass has given the Bills this year was when he booted a 61-yard game-winning field goal against the Miami Dolphins. If the Bills are in a position where they need to depend on Bass’ leg to get them past the Ravens, it will be even a bigger kick than a 61-yard attempt.

    More Bills Coverage and Analysis:

CBS Sports predicts that Bills fans will have even more reason to love rookie kicker Tyler Bass in the divisional round of the playoffs. Bass has been an integral part of the team’s success this season, showcasing his strong leg and accuracy on field goals and extra points.

In their prediction, CBS Sports foresees Bass making a game-winning kick in a close matchup against their opponent, solidifying his place as a reliable and clutch kicker for the Bills. Bills fans can only hope that this prediction comes true, as Bass continues to prove himself as a valuable asset to the team.

With his impressive performance throughout the season, it’s no surprise that Bills fans have grown to love Tyler Bass and have high hopes for him in the divisional round. Stay tuned to see if CBS Sports’ prediction comes to fruition and if Bass can continue to shine under pressure in the playoffs. #GoBills #TylerBass #PlayoffsBound

  • Tony Romo’s net worth, salary, love life and strong response to CBS critics

For nearly a decade now, Tony Romo has been CBS’ lead color broadcaster following his retirement from the NFL .

Romo was one of the most improbable success stories in the NFL, going from an undrafted free agent to the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys . While playoff success evaded the Cowboys during Romo’s time as their starter, he did enjoy a successful career, one that he then parlayed into becoming a broadcaster for CBS alongside Jim Nantz.

It is a partnership that has had it’s up and downs. While the pair do have good on-air chemistry, Romo has drawn criticism for how he went from Nostrodamus, predicting playcalls at the line of scrimmage to almost seemingly reining in his efforts whilst broadcasting alongside Nantz.

The former Dallas Cowboys star will be on the call of Baltimore and Buffalo’s huge AFC Divisional Round clash, with Romo and Nantz also slated to call the AFC Championship game next week.

During his career as a player, Romo earned over $127million across 14-years, a figure that is dwarfed by the 10-year, $180 million deal he signed with CBS in 2020. Romo is estimated to have a net worth of around $80m according to Celebrity Net Worth .

The 44-year-old has been married to wife Candice Crawford since 2011 with the pair sharing three children. Speaking back in 2023 about the criticism he has received during his broadcasting career, Romo told The Athletic : “People come to me now and say they love our crew, they love how we do it.

“Like anything, we’ve (the CBS crew) been at such a high level doing this for so long that it doesn’t matter who you are, people are not going to continually write the same article about how great you are. I mean, you wouldn’t do that.

“You’re not going to continually write, ‘They are the best,’ over and over again. They might still think it, but people have to find things to write. I think that’s just part of human nature. And guess what? There’s agendas. People like clicks. I mean, that’s a real thing. And I think they should.

“I think it’s all a positive. Talking about it, it helps all of the NFL. Our job is to go out there and perform like we’ve done and try to always do our best. I think we’ve done a great job with that. You’re looking at a very talented group here. Like all things, we’re going to go and try to put our best foot forward.”

Tony Romo, former NFL quarterback turned sports commentator, has established himself as one of the most beloved and respected voices in football broadcasting. With his insightful analysis, infectious enthusiasm, and uncanny ability to predict plays before they happen, Romo has become a fan favorite in the booth.

But just how much is Romo worth? According to Celebrity Net Worth, Romo’s net worth is estimated to be around $70 million. This hefty sum is a testament to Romo’s successful football career, lucrative broadcasting contracts, and various endorsement deals.

In terms of salary, Romo reportedly earns a whopping $17 million per year from CBS Sports, making him one of the highest-paid sports commentators in the industry. His lucrative contract is a reflection of his immense popularity and undeniable talent behind the microphone.

When it comes to Romo’s love life, he has been happily married to former Miss Missouri USA, Candice Crawford, since 2011. The couple has three children together and their relationship is often admired for its strength and longevity in the often tumultuous world of professional sports.

Despite his success and popularity, Romo has not been immune to criticism. Some CBS critics have accused him of being too verbose, too eager to predict plays, and too enthusiastic in his commentary. However, Romo has not shied away from responding to his critics, often defending his style and approach to broadcasting.

In a strong and impassioned response to his detractors, Romo has emphasized the importance of his enthusiasm and football knowledge in providing viewers with an engaging and informative viewing experience. He has also expressed his gratitude for the support of his fans and the opportunity to share his love for the game with a wider audience.

Overall, Tony Romo’s net worth, salary, love life, and response to critics paint a picture of a successful, dedicated, and resilient individual who continues to make a lasting impact on the world of football broadcasting.

  • Trump’s return to office greeted with optimism, high expectations — CBS News poll

A majority of Americans are optimistic about the next four years with Donald Trump, even more so than they were in 2017 before his first term. And most are hopeful about the coming year.

That’s bolstered by Americans’ expectations for a good economy in 2025 — higher than they currently rate it — along with wide belief among his voters that Trump will bring down grocery prices, make them financially better off and bring more peace and stability to the world.

It all echoes many of the reasons Trump won in the first place.

In this hyper-partisan era, though, optimism for incoming presidents isn’t quite as high as it once was. For Carter and Reagan, both Bushes, Clinton and Obama, CBS News polling at the time showed higher optimism than either President Biden in 2021 or Trump today enjoys. That’s largely because these days, opposing partisans are less likely to express positivity.

    1-trumpoptimism.png

    optimism-trend.png

    1-econnowv2025.png

Just as economic views and inflation propelled Trump to a win, today many Americans — especially Trump’s voters — expect to be financially better off.

And just as inflation and the economy were top issues in the election, they are far and away the top things they want Trump to prioritize now.

    4-trumps-policies-groceries.png

    3-trumps-policies-finances.png

Americans are more hopeful about the coming year generally than they were at the start of 2021, when the pandemic was still going on.

Looking overseas, more think Trump will increase peace and stability in the world than decrease it, and specifically, decrease conflict between Israel and its neighbors in the Middle East.

(In contrast, just over half look back now and say Mr. Biden’s policies created more conflict there.)

    5-trump-peace.png

    Other potential policy ideas

Most Americans are in favor of deportations of immigrants who are in the country illegally, as voters were during the campaign, though not of using the military to carry out deportations.

    6-trump-deport.png

On a number of other potential policy ideas, things are more split. Ending birthright citizenship is not widely popular, and it only divides Trump voters.

    7-birthright.png

People are not sold on the idea of buying Greenland. Most Trump voters would approve of it, but not universally, and it’s not a popular idea beyond that.

It does shed an important light on how Americans think Trump thinks, though: many of them feel he’s just leveraging for a larger negotiation.

    8-buy-greenland.png

    9-why-buy-greenland.png

On imposing tariffs on imported goods, Trump’s voters overwhelmingly favor the idea (even though they don’t necessarily think this will bring down prices), while a slight majority of Americans overall are opposed.

    10-new-tariffs.png

The idea of ending or reducing DEI programs is strongly supported by his voters; the rest of the country is more split.

    11-dei-programs.png

    Looking ahead: Democrats and opposition

Still, most Americans say they are concerned about the state of U.S. politics right now, and that concern is highest among Democrats, whose ranks don’t look especially activated right now.

Many Democrats describe themselves as “demoralized,” along with being “exhausted” and “concerned” about U.S. politics when asked to choose descriptors. Few say they’re even “interested.” Even fewer say they’re “motivated.”

    12-dems-feel-politics.png

They’re roughly split over whether they want congressional Democrats to find common ground or oppose Trump at every turn now; the most liberal are the most opposed. And then they have some — though not a lot — of confidence that their congressional leadership can effectively oppose Trump when they disagree.

There’s also some sense among them of missed opportunity as Mr. Biden departs: just over half think Harris could have won if Mr. Biden had stepped aside sooner.

    13-dems-biden-step-aside.png

Biden, meanwhile, exits with Americans evaluating his presidency as low as they ever have during his term.

Looking ahead along other demographic lines, some of Americans’ outlook for the Trump administration follows some of the contours of what happened in November.

Trump made gains over 2020 with younger voters, and today, young Americans are more likely to voice optimism about him than are older Americans. (They’re also just generally more likely to voice optimism whenever asked to look ahead.) Trump did better with men and made gains with women, and today both are optimistic, men especially so.

Today, almost a quarter of the voters who backed Kamala Harris are optimistic now about the next four years with Trump, reflecting perhaps some willingness for them to reevaluate him once he takes office, something we often see with a losing candidate’s supporters, at least early on.

    14-optimism-by-age.png

In all, more Americans are pulling for the new administration to succeed, compared to very few for it to fail. The ratio is far higher for desired success. This is similar to how it was for Joe Biden four years ago, too. And then for many, they say it simply depends on what Trump tries to do.

    15-trumpsuccess.png

This CBS News/YouGov survey was conducted with a nationally representative sample of 2,174 U.S. adults interviewed between January 15-17, 2025. The sample was weighted to be representative of adults nationwide according to gender, age, race, and education, based on the U.S. Census American Community Survey and Current Population Survey, as well as 2024 presidential vote. The margin of error is ±2.5 points.

In a recent CBS News poll, it was found that a majority of Americans are optimistic about former President Donald Trump’s potential return to office. The poll revealed that many people have high expectations for Trump’s leadership and believe that he can make a positive impact on the country.

Despite the controversies surrounding his presidency, Trump still has a strong base of supporters who believe in his ability to bring about change and improve the state of the nation. Many are hopeful that he will continue to champion conservative values and policies that resonate with them.

However, there are also concerns among some Americans about what a Trump presidency would mean for the country. Critics worry about his divisive rhetoric and the potential for further polarization in the political landscape.

Overall, the poll reflects a mix of optimism and apprehension about Trump’s potential return to office. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these sentiments shape the future of American politics.

  • Is CBS About To Cancel NCIS?

Is CBS About To Cancel NCIS?

Based on CBS’ history of cancelations, there might be a chance that the network will pull the plug on NCIS. The long-running procedural is already an institution not just for its broadcaster but on network TV as its in its 22nd season. Currently, it is the third-longest-running scripted, live-action US TV series that is currently airing, only being surpassed only by NBC and Dick Wolf‘s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order, which are airing their 26th and 24th seasons, respectively. Admittedly, it’s difficult to imagine TV without NCIS, but it may be nearing its end.

It would be an understatement to say that NCIS has gone through so many changes throughout its run. As with the majority of long-running ensemble shows, it has said goodbye to several cast members and welcomed new ones. Still, its biggest loss was when Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs retired in NCIS season 19, since he had been its face since its inception. Still, the procedural rolled with the changes, with the arrival of Gary Coleman’s Alden Parker taking over MCRT. While the transition was smoother than initially theorized, new information may be a cause for concern regarding NCIS‘ future.

NCIS Season 22 Has Some Of The Show’s All-Time Low Ratings

The Viewership Numbers Are Not Good This Year For NCIS

Per a report from TV Line, NCIS season 22, episode 6, “Knight & Day” dipped to 4.92 million viewers, tying the episode “The Trouble with Hal” from three weeks ago. Based on public records, however, the current year also has its lowest ratings in its more than two decades on the air. NCIS season 22, episode 4, “Sticks & Stones” posted just 4.76 million viewers, which, interestingly, tackled one of the strongest and most impactful stories on MCRT in its current run.

NCIS Season 22 Is Teasing A Major McGee Death & That’s Worrying For Sean Murray’s Future As Tim

After a rather slow start to its year, NCIS season 22 may be setting up an intense second half that could dreadfully include a major McGee death.

In the outing, Parker and the rest of the team fought hard to stop a burgeoning World War III, while Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer finally talked about the status of their relationship. Storywise, it was a solid episode. Its weekly case was compelling, as Parker, Tim McGee, and Nick Torres defied orders and antagonized the FBI — a recurring theme throughout the show’s history. Meanwhile, it also delivered on the much-awaited decision on Knight and Palmer’s fate as a couple.

NCIS Season 22 Ratings Is At Par With NCIS: Hawai’i Before It Got Canceled

CBS’ Cancelation Of NCIS: Hawai’i Set A Scary Precedent

Luckily, NCIS season 22 was able to bounce back after its show-low rating, but the succeeding episodes’ viewership was still very far from its numbers in season 21. NCIS is a network TV institution, so normally, this shouldn’t be a cause for concern, especially since it’s still performing above its fellow long-running procedurals. That being said, CBS canceling NCIS: Hawai’i set a precedent insinuating that the flagship may not be as safe as perceived.

NCIS Season 22 Has Its All-Time Lowest-Rated Episode (Blame CBS For It)

After more than two decades on the air, NCIS season 22 posted its lowest-rated episode ever. That said, it may be because of CBS’ decision.

CBS has given various explanations about why they actually canceled NCIS: Hawai’i, and that included its ratings in connection with its cost management efforts and interest in revamping its lineup. Looking at Vanessa Lachey’s spinoff’s viewership in season 3’s first 9 episodes and comparing it to NCIS season 22’s data, they virtually pulled the same numbers.

It may likely be more expensive to film on location in Hawaii for the offshoot than with the long-established sets for the flagship, but one must also factor in the salaries of the people involved. Both Sean Murray and Brian Dietzen have been in NCIS for more than two decades, and with that comes big payouts. Meanwhile, established names like Gary Cole and Wilmer Valderrama would have higher rates than relatively up-and-comers from NCIS: Hawai’i.

Can CBS Afford Not To Have The Flagship NCIS Show?

The NCIS Franchise Will Continue Beyond The Mothership

Sasha Alexander as Todd, Michael Weatherly as Dinozzo, and Mark Harmon as Gibbs in NCIS

It’s an understatement to say that NCIS underwent many changes in the last few years. Losing Gibbs in itself was a big one, and something that many thought would spell the end of the series. That said, the show continues and still performs decently despite the significant dip in ratings. If it wasn’t for the NCIS: Hawai’i‘s controversial cancelation, one would assume that this shouldn’t even be discussed. That said, network TV is fast-evolving. Aside from its offshoot, CBS also ended Blue Bloods — another established show that was performing well for them, emphasizing that anything is possible at this point.

After 22 years, NCIS has effectively written out its final original cast member who debuted in “Yankee White” by introducing their replacement.

For what it’s worth, the franchise will continue if CBS decides to pull the plug on NCIS‘ flagship show. In 2024, the network launched NCIS: Origins, which tackles Gibbs’ earliest years in the agency. There’s also NCIS: Sydney — its very first international offshoot. Finally, there’s also the much-anticipated return of Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo in NCIS: Tony & Ziva.

NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. Special Agent Alden Parker, a quirky former FBI agent who solves his cases with calm professionalism and sharp, sarcastic charm, leads the NCIS team, which includes NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee, an MIT graduate with a knack for computers who has now graduated to senior field agent; the charismatic, unpredictable and resilient NCIS Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres, who has spent most of his career on solo undercover assignments; and sharp, athletic and tough NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight, a formidable REACT agent who specializes in hostage negotiations and high-risk operations. The naïve Jimmy Palmer is assisting the team, who graduated from assistant to fully licensed medical examiner and now runs the morgue; and forensic scientist Kasie Hines, Ducky’s former graduate assistant. Overseeing operations is NCIS Director Leon Vance, an intelligent, highly trained agent who can always be counted on to shake up the status quo. From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents investigate all crimes with Navy or Marine Corps ties.

There have been rumors swirling that CBS may be considering canceling its long-running hit show, NCIS. With declining ratings and the departure of key cast members like Mark Harmon, fans are concerned about the future of the beloved procedural drama. Will the network pull the plug on NCIS after 19 seasons, or will it soldier on for another year? Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • 2025 NBA Draft: CBS Sports shakes up first-round mock draft ahead of heavy conference play

2025 NBA Draft: CBS Sports shakes up first-round mock draft ahead of heavy conference play

The bulk of non-conference college basketball action is behind us and while many teams haven’t started to play their conference opponents for the year, some players have separated themselves from their competition.

With that in mind, CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone has overhauled his latest mock draft, revealing which 30 players he believes will hear their names called on night one based on their early-season performances.

    1. Washington Wizards – PF Cooper Flagg

Despite the top of the field’s best efforts this early season, Duke forward Cooper Flagg has remained atop the 2025 NBA Draft rankings as the consensus top pick since before the season began. It doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon as his Duke team is currently ranked No. 4 in the latest AP Poll with the potential to make a deep run this season.

Flagg has been the engine for the Blue Devils this season, leading the team in points (16.3), rebounds (8.6), assists (3.5) and blocks (1.2) per game. He also averages a team-high 30.8 minutes per game and is second on the team in steals (1.5 per game).

Dylan Harper teaming up with Ace Bailey at Rutgers this season intrigued many around the college basketball world. While the Scarlet Knights sit at 7-5 overall, it hasn’t been for a lack of scoring on their parts — particularly Harper.

Harper averages 23.3 points per game (fourth best in the country) — but does so on a 51.9 percent clip. He also does his part elsewhere on the court, logging 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game as well.

    3. New Orleans Pelicans – SG Egor Demin

Egor Demin came to play for BYU‘s first-year head coach Kevin Young from Russia, and figures to be a top NBA Draft prospect this season.

During his first six games of the season, he played as well as anyone in the country averaging 15.3 points per game while leading the Cougars to a 5-1 record over that time. Their lone loss came to Ole Miss in overtime. However, he hasn’t played since Dec. 3 after suffering a knee contusion against Providence.

    4. Toronto Raptors – SF Ace Bailey

Ace Bailey hasn’t let Dylan Harper have all the fun this season. His 17.6 points per game and team-high 7.6 rebounds make him a threat from anywhere on the court.

At 6 foot 10, he’s not afraid to take a 3-point shot attempt or shoot in volumes. He’s taken at least three 3-point attempts in eight of his 10 appearances so far this season and has never taken under 10 shots per game in 2024.

    Jakucionis
    © Ron Johnson-Imagn Images

A 6 foot 6 native of Lithuania, Illinois‘ Kasparas Jakucionis was a four-star recruit coming out of high school but has more than impressed so far this season. So far this season he’s averaging 16.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.5 points as a true freshman.

He’s turned on the jets since Thanksgiving, scoring 20 or more points in every matchup for the Fighting Illini over that stretch. Jakucionis put up 22 points against No. 1 Tennessee on Dec. 14 after scoring his career-high (24) the last time out against No. 20 Wisconsin. Turnovers have also been an issue for the budding star.

    6. Detroit Pistons – SG VJ Edgecombe

VJ Edgecombe was a Five-Star Plus+ recruit in the 2024 recruiting class and the No. 1 shooting guard overall, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. Committing to play for Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears for his freshman season, he’s showcased his skills on the big stage more than once already this year.

While he averaged 11.9 points per game, he’s scored as many as 20 points per game this season (vs. Tennessee on Nov. 22). Edgecombe also averages 5.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this year.

    7. Charlotte Hornets – PG Nolan Traore

Nolan Traore opted to stay in France over playing for major college basketball programs such as Duke, Arkansas, Gonzaga and Alabama, stating that it was the “best situation” for his career.

To this point, he’s played all 13 games for Saint-Quentin Basketball this season, averaging 10.5 points and 4.9 assists for his team across 21.2 minutes per game. What he will be able to do with extended minutes at the NBA level remains to be seen.

    8. San Antonio Spurs – SG Dink Pate

    Dink Pate
    © Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images

Dink Pate became the youngest player to ever turn pro after forgoing his senior season in high school and signing with the G League Ignite in 2023. Now on the NBA-affiliated Mexico City Capitanes, he’s averaging 10.7 points and 3.9 points this season.

Pate attempted to enter the 2024 NBA Draft but was denied due to age restrictions. Now, he’s expected to be a lottery pick one year later.

Boogie Fland is John Calipari’s next NBA-ready point guard. The energetic true freshman guard averages 15.3 points, 6.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game for Arkansas so far this season. He’s been held to under single digits just twice in 12 appearances this season.

Fland was the No. 1 overall point guard in the 2024 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was a part of the 2022 USA Basketball U17 National Team, and he helped lead Team USA to a gold medal with them that year.

    10. Indiana Pacers – SF Kon Knueppel

Duke’s freshman class is unrivaled based on the fact that two of those players, in this mock draft, are expected to be top-10 picks. Cooper Flagg’s partner in crime, Kon Knueppel has become a fan favorite in Durham for his hustle and swagger on the court.

The Milwaukee native is averaging 12.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game for the Blue Devils this season.

    NBA Mock Draft Pick 11-30

    11. San Antonio Spurs – SF Tre Johnson
    12. Atlanta Hawks – SF Liam McNeeley
    13. Houston Rockets – PF JT Toppin
    14. Atlanta Hawks – SF Alex Karaban
    15. San Antonio Spurs – SG Ben Saraf
    16. Oklahoma City Thunder – PG Labaron Philon
    17. Brooklyn Nets – PG Kam Jones
    18. Oklahoma City Thunder – C Derik Queen
    19. Oklahoma City Thunder – PF Asa Nowell
    20. Orlando Magic – SF Nique Clifford
    21. Orlando Magic – PF Collin Murray-Boyles
    22. Utah Jazz – PF Mackenzie Mgbako
    23. Houston Rockets – SF Hugo Gonzalez
    24. Dallas Mavericks – C Khaman Maluach
    25. Brooklyn Nets – SF Adou Thiero
    26. Memphis Grizzlies – SG Jase Richardson
    27. Golden State Warriors – PG Jaland Lowe
    28. Utah Jazz – C Ryan Kalkbrenner
    29. Boston Celtics – SG Drake Powell
    30. Los Angeles Clippers – PG Tyrese Proctor

As we head into the heart of conference play in the 2025 college basketball season, CBS Sports has released a new first-round mock draft for the upcoming NBA Draft. The mock draft features some big changes and surprises, shaking up the projected order of top prospects.

One of the most notable changes in the mock draft is the rise of a previously underrated prospect who has been making a big impact in conference play. This player has impressed scouts with their versatility, scoring ability, and defensive prowess, leading to a significant jump in their draft stock.

On the other hand, some highly-touted prospects have seen their stock fall due to inconsistent play or underwhelming performances against top competition. This has opened the door for other players to move up in the draft rankings and potentially secure a higher selection come draft night.

With plenty of basketball still to be played before the NBA Draft, it will be interesting to see how these prospects continue to perform and whether any more surprises are in store. Stay tuned to CBS Sports for all the latest updates and analysis on the 2025 NBA Draft as the college basketball season unfolds.
