‘Jeopardy!’ contestant, Washington Post writer misses Celine Dion clue
A “Jeopardy!” contestant walked off the stage after missing a clue about Celine Dion, but we’re sure his heart will go on from the mistake.
Drew Goins, a writer for Washington Post Opinions from Honolulu, was recently on the Champions Wildcard tournament of “Jeopardy!” when he missed a clue about Celine Dion, who he thanked during his introduction.
“John, the producer, suggested, long story, that I thank Celine Dion,” Goins said before showing his gratitude to the famous pop icon. “So, thank you, Celine Dion.”
Later, during the game, a question about Dion popped up, leaving the contestant stunned and at a loss for words.

What was the clue?
The clue was under the “’90s No. 1 hits” category for $2,000.
“Sharing its title with an earlier, more upbeat Huey Lewis hit, it was number one for Celine Dion in 1994,” “Jeopardy!” host, Ken Jennings, read the clue out loud.
With his hand on his forehead and a shocked smile on his face, Goins stuttered.
“Uh oh,” Jennings said before the buzzer went off, signifying the time to answer the question was up.
Goins then put down his buzzer and walked off the stage. But, the frazzled contestant’s mistake earned him a hug from fellow “Jeopardy!” contestant Mehal Shah when he returned seconds later.
The answer to the clue: What is “The Power of Love?”
Regardless, Goins had a pretty good excuse for flubbing the answer:
“I was born in 1994,” he said.
This wasn’t Goins’ first ‘Jeopardy!’ error
In September 2024, Goins competed in “Jeopardy!” and received a clue about a Taylor Swift album.
“The First of Taylor Swift’s record 4 [Album of the Year] Grammys was for this album in 2010,” was the clue under the category Grammys for $800.
The answer: What is “Fearless”?
Goins, unfortunately, got it wrong, even though his brother prepped him on a practice board that was only Swift clues.
After making the mistake, Goins “went home worried that the Swifties would come rip me out of my bed,” he said during his next “Jeopardy!” appearance on Jan 6.
But don’t worry. He redeemed himself when he got the answer right for this Swift clue under “Albums”: “In 2014, Taylor Swift gave us this album named for a different year.”
“What is 1989?!” Goins excitedly shouted when he buzzed in the answer, adding $200 to his score.
‘hi! I’m the problem! it’s me!!!’
The contestant took it all with the best sportsmanship, even cracking jokes on social media.
On Instagram, “Jeopardy!” posted a video with a clip of Goins’ first Swift blunder from September, immediately followed by his vindication with his correct answer from January.
“It’s me, hi! I’m the problem! it’s me!!!” Goins commented on the post, quoting Swift’s song “Anti-Hero” from the album “Midnights.”
Here’s to hoping that Goins gets a similar redemption arc with another Dion clue.

‘Jeopardy’ contestant misses Céline Dion clue, walks offstage
Not even a Jeopardy contestant can nail down all the details of Céline Dion‘s illustrious career.
Fan-favorite contestant Drew Goins made the blunder of a lifetime during Jeopardy’s 2025 Champions Wildcard tournament on Friday, Jan. 24. Not only did he miss a question about one of the singer’s biggest hits, he did so after name-dropping her during his intro for the episode.
“John the producer suggested — long story — that I thank Céline Dion,” Goins told host Ken Jennings, bowing in Dion’s honor without further explanation. “So, thank you, Céline Dion.”
“Does she know what she did?” Jennings wondered.
“Oh, she does,” Goins replied. “Deep down.”
Unbeknownst to him, Goins would be put to the test later in the episode, when offered the chance to prove his fan knowledge. The $2000 clue from the category “90s No. 1 Hits,” read, “Sharing its title with an earlier, more upbeat Huey Lewis hit, it was No. 1 for Céline Dion in 1994.”

But when the camera looked to Goins, he wasn’t buzzing in. Instead, the Jeopardy contestant looked distressed, with a hand on his forehead, as he wordlessly stuttered in a panicked attempt to answer. Ultimately, Goins and his competitors were unable to answer, and the buzzer soon signaled that their time had run out.
If fellow contestants WillYancey and Mehal Shah were upset about missing the question, they hid it much better than Goins, who jokingly walked off set.
“Oh, she’s going to be mad, Drew,” Jennings joked as the audience laughed at Goins’ reaction. Goins soon returned to the stage, hugging Shah on his way back to the podium.

Jennings then revealed the answer to the question, explaining, “Like Huey Lewis, Céline Dion sang a song called ‘The Power of Love.’”
Goins then defended his blunder exclaiming, “I was born in 1994!”
Goins, a journalist from Honolulu, still had a successful round, taking second place in the final Champions Wildcard tournament and a prize of $40,000. As the runner-up, Goins also snagged a spot in the Tournament of Champions and is scheduled to play in the quarterfinals on Feb. 3.
This is not the first time Goins has been thwarted by pop star facts during his Jeopardy tenure. Back in September 2024, Goins lost out on the $800 clue, “The first of Taylor Swift’s record 4 AOTY Grammys was for this album in 2010.”
None of the contestants buzzed in with the answer, which was Fearless.
Months later, Goins redeemed himself when given another Swift-related clue, which read, “In 2014 Taylor Swift gave us this album named for a different year.”
Goins was quick to buzz in with the correct answer, excitedly proclaiming, “What is ‘1989’?”
Jennings was happy to celebrate with him: “Redemption for Drew! And the crowd goes wild!”
In a recent episode of “Jeopardy,” one contestant found themselves in a bit of a sticky situation when they completely missed a clue related to the iconic singer Céline Dion. The clue, which read “This Canadian singer is known for hits like ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and ‘The Power of Love,’” seemed like a no-brainer for any music enthusiast. However, the contestant in question drew a blank and ultimately walked offstage in embarrassment as the audience collectively gasped in disbelief.
While it’s not uncommon for contestants to struggle with certain categories, missing a clue about someone as well-known as Céline Dion certainly raised a few eyebrows. Hopefully, this contestant will brush up on their music knowledge before their next appearance on the show.

‘Jeopardy’ Contest And Céline Dion Fan Drew Goins Misses Question About Singer
One “Jeopardy!” contestant had a bit of a blunder when it came to a Céline Dion hit.
Drew Goins, a Hawaii-based journalist who was competing in the “Jeopardy!” 2025 Champions Wildcard tournament, missed a question about the “My Heart Will Go On” singer — after giving a special shoutout to Dion earlier in the episode.
During the Jan. 24 episode, Goins listed several people he wanted to thank, including one celebrity.
“John the producer suggested, long story, that I thank Céline Dion. So, thank you, Céline Dion,” he said, while bowing and looking into the camera.
“Does she know what she did?” host Ken Jennings asked.
“Oh, she does,” Goins responded. “Deep down.”
Later in the episode, Goins was given the opportunity to flex his knowledge of the singer when presented with a $2000 question from the category “’90s No. 1 Hits.”
“Sharing its title with an earlier, more upbeat Huey Lewis hit, it was No. 1 for Celine Dion in 1994,” Jennings read.
But instead of buzzing in, Goins appeared stressed out and panicked about the question. He, along with the rest of the contestants, were unable to answer, and the buzzer signaled that time ran out.
“Oh, she’s going to be mad, Drew,” Jennings joked before the contestant left the podium and pretended to walk off the set.
Jennings eventually revealed the answer to the question, sharing, “Like Huey Lewis, Céline Dion sang a song called ‘The Power of Love.’”
Returning to the podium, Goins excused the blunder, saying, “I was born in 1994!”
The journalist ultimately came in second place in the final of the Champions Wildcard tournament, taking home a prize of $40,000. As the runner-up, Goins still sneaked into the upcoming Tournament of Champions, and he is scheduled to play in the quarterfinals on Feb. 3.
While Goins was let down by a question about Dion, he had a memorable moment of redemption during the Second Chance tournament with another pop superstar — Taylor Swift.
During a September 2024 episode of “Jeopardy!” Goins failed to answer the $800 question, “The first of Taylor Swift’s record 4 AOTY Grammys was for this album in 2010.”
None of the contestants buzzed in with the answer, which was “Fearless.”
Then, on the Jan. 6 “Jeopardy” episode, he was met with the $200 question, “In 2014 Taylor Swift gave us this album named for a different year.”
This time, the question was not met with silence, with Goins buzzing in to respond, “What is ‘1989’?”
“Redemption for Drew!” Jennings said as the audience began cheering. “And the crowd goes wild.”
In a recent episode of Jeopardy, contestant and self-proclaimed Céline Dion superfan Drew Goins missed a question about the iconic singer. The question, which asked for the title of Céline Dion’s Grammy-winning hit song from the Titanic soundtrack, left Goins stumped.Despite his love for Céline Dion and her music, Goins couldn’t come up with the correct answer, “My Heart Will Go On.” The moment left viewers surprised and amused, as Goins had been confidently answering other questions about the singer throughout the episode.
While Goins may have missed this particular question, his passion for Céline Dion remains unwavering. And who knows, maybe he’ll have a chance to redeem himself in a future episode of Jeopardy. Until then, fans can continue to enjoy his enthusiasm and knowledge of all things Céline Dion.

Oscar nominee Ariana Grande is truly a gift who keeps giving to the fashion community as she recently stunned in a gorgeous Celine dress in London. For a recent lunch reception, she opted for a piece that took much inspiration from gift wrapping. While the minidress might look plain at first glance, it comes with a massive bow detailing at the front, which is then topped with some smaller bows.
The strapless dress had a simple A-line silhouette. However, the bodice is adorned with what appears to be one-half of a giant bow. The dress was nothing short of a bow party as the design made use of more bows to form a belt that helped cinch in the waist ever so slightly. Grande paired it with sheer black tights that contrasted the dress’ nude shade beautifully. She completed the look with a pair of black pointed-toe heels that further elevated the chic fit.
For her hairstyle, the singer sported one that she has been going for often as of late. She tied her light hair back into a sleek ponytail, sweeping her baby bangs to the side. She added some shimmer to the look with her white shimmery eyeshadow. However, she kept her lip makeup quite minimal, simply opting for a tinted lip gloss. She also added a healthy dose of blush to bring back some color to her cheeks. Lastly, according to her stylist Mimi Cuttrell’s recent Instagram post, Grande accessorized with a pair of pearl stud earrings from Irene Neuwirth that added to the elegance of the overall look.
