We’re now hours from kicking off the NFC Championship game, and Eagles Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens will be inactive after testing out his injured back.
With Jurgens expected to be ruled out, Tyler Steen will shift to the left guard spot, and Landon Dickerson will start at the center position.
x.com
Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert declared he was “good to go.” He was a full participant and has no game status designation for Sunday.
Jurgens, meanwhile, was a limited participant and is questionable for Sunday. Landon Dickerson took reps at center this week in case Jurgens cannot play.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts (knee) was a full participant on Friday and has no game status designation.
The Eagles ruled out two players on Injured Reserve, who have returned to practice – wide receiver Britain Covey (neck) and defensive tackle Byron Young (hamstring).
Covey’s absence means that Cooper DeJean will continue to handle punt returns.
The Philadelphia Eagles will be without starting center Cam Jurgens for the NFC title game due to a lingering injury. Jurgens, who has been dealing with a lower body issue, will not be able to suit up for the crucial matchup against their conference rival.
This news comes as a big blow to the Eagles, as Jurgens has been a key contributor to their offensive line throughout the season. His absence will be felt as they face off against a tough opponent in the NFC title game.
The team is hopeful that Jurgens will be able to recover in time for the Super Bowl, should they advance. In the meantime, they will have to rely on their depth and adjust their game plan to make up for his absence.
Stay tuned for further updates on Cam Jurgens’ injury status and how the Eagles will adjust in his absence for the NFC title game.
At the finale of the show, Chavarria walked slowly down the runway wearing the crewneck himself. The powerful moment was magnified by the words of Bishop Mariann Edger Budde playing on the loudspeakers over music. Budde led the Inaugural Prayer Service following President Trump’s inauguration on Tuesday and directly addressed him as she asked Trump to “have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now.”
“There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives,” the sermon sounded as Chavarria made his way through the church.
The symbolic moment tied the entire evening together, proving that no law can silence someone’s true identity. Aside from the crewneck, Chavarria bought billboards and displays throughout Paris to boost the same notion. “[It’s just really the promotion of love and dignity in this really beautiful, elegant, artistic way.”
@lucatombolini
Willy Chavarria’s show was one of the hottest seats in town, as models included Paloma Elsesser, Bad Bunny’s brother Bernie Martínez Ocasio, rapper Tokischa, Becky G, and more. J Balvin surprised attendees with a performance amongst the models, and a string quartet played off and on.
This isn’t the first time Chavarria has used his runway shows to make a statement. Last season, the designer’s show, “América” was a celebration of his Mexican-American heritage and a nod to the farm workers of America, with reworked uniforms featuring cargo pockets and long keychains. He also partnered with the ACLU and again walked out during the finale wearing a shirt with the nonprofit logo.
Tinder’s own mission has focused on causes that relate to their company, including LGBTQ+ and reproductive rights. The dating app company has worked with designers in the past to raise awareness for a cause — including partnering with Area to create a “Bans Off Our Bodies” shirt that debuted at New York Fashion Week in September. The collaboration included a large donation to Planned Parenthood and invited several volunteers to watch the runway show. Much like reproductive rights, Tinder’s other focus is on LGBTQ+ rights.
When working with Chavarria, Tinder’s Global Chief Marketing Officer Melissa Hobley told Teen Vogue that the designer was curious about their intentions.
“We had the chance to talk to him about connection and about loneliness and about the LGBTQ community and how important it was to have an experience for them and to take a stand,” Hobley said. “Part of our job at Tinder is to understand the rights that are at stake for the LGBTQ community.”
She continued: “Human Rights Campaign is a leader in that space and we’ve had a long relationship with them and supported a lot of their initiatives… It was a really easy, fun, and creative process with [Willy].”
As for Chavarria, he has always planted one foot firmly in social justice through his work, and he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. In 2017, the designer made a statement about putting Mexican immigrants in cages at the border, while those close to him tried to warn him against doing so.
Willy Chavarria’s Paris Fashion Week Debut Made LGBTQ+ Rights Front and Center
Willy Chavarria made a powerful statement at his debut show at Paris Fashion Week, shining a spotlight on LGBTQ+ rights. The renowned designer, known for his bold and unapologetic approach to fashion, used his platform to advocate for equality and acceptance.
Chavarria’s collection featured a diverse cast of models, representing a range of gender identities and sexual orientations. The runway was a celebration of individuality and self-expression, with each look exuding confidence and pride.
The designer also incorporated powerful messages of inclusivity into his designs, with slogans like “Love is Love” and “Pride” emblazoned on t-shirts and jackets. Chavarria’s use of vibrant colors and bold prints further emphasized his message of acceptance and unity.
In a time when LGBTQ+ rights are still under threat in many parts of the world, Chavarria’s show served as a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up for equality. By using his platform to amplify marginalized voices, the designer made a bold statement that will resonate far beyond the runway.
Overall, Willy Chavarria’s Paris Fashion Week debut was a triumph of style and substance, showcasing the beauty and power of diversity in the fashion industry. His commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and representation is a shining example for other designers to follow, and a reminder that fashion can be a force for positive change.
Ghana President Taps Retired Army Officer as Envoy to Junta-led Sahel States Ghana President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday appointed [Larry Gbevlo-Lartey] a former national security chief as envoy to a new alliance formed by Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso…Juntas seized control in a series of coups in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger between 2020 and 2023 and severed military and diplomatic ties with regional allies and Western powers. Diplomatic relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso broke down in 2022 after former president, Nana Akufo-Addo, alleged it had hired Russian Wagner mercenaries, saying their presence on Ghana’s northern border was distressing. Mahama, 66, won the Dec. 7 presidential election by a wide margin to stage a political comeback in Ghana, the world’s number two cocoa producer, which is recovering from its worst economic crisis in a generation…”His appointment is the first in ECOWAS and it’s an attempt to rebuild trust… and start the process of reengagement and the return of the AES to the ECOWAS family,” [Emmanuel Kwesi Aning, an Accra-based security consultant] said. West Africa’s Junta-led Nations Announce Deployment of a Joint Force as Extremist Violence Spikes The junta-led West African countries of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali have created a joint force that will soon be deployed in the restive Sahel region, Niger’s defense minister said Wednesday, to face rising extremist violence…Following military coups in all three nations in recent years, the ruling juntas have expelled French forces and turned to Russia’s mercenary units for security assistance…However, the security situation in the Sahel has worsened since the juntas took power, analysts say, with a record number of attacks and civilians killed both by Islamic militants and government forces. The violence in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso has killed more than 3,470 people in the last six months while 2.6 million people are currently displaced, according to the United Nations refugee agency. After coming into power, the juntas in the three countries left the Economic Community of West African States, the nearly 50-year-old regional bloc known as ECOWAS, and created their own security partnership, the Alliance of Sahel States, in September last year. Some analysts described it as an attempt to legitimize their military governments amid coup-related sanctions and strained relations with neighbors. AP
Moroccan Truck Drivers Kidnapped in Burkina Faso Have Been Released Four Moroccan truck drivers who were kidnapped in West Africa over the weekend were released in Niger. The drivers were the latest victims of insecurity in the Sahel, an arid swath of land south of the Sahara where militant groups such as the Islamic State Sahel Province have exploited local grievances to expand their ranks and presence. The four were transporting electrical equipment from Casablanca to Niamey, the capital of Niger, and had been on the road for more than 20 days along the 3,000-mile (5,000-kilometer) route when they were reported missing on Saturday, the secretary-general of Morocco’s Transport Union said…The drivers elected not to travel with a military escort on the route between northeastern Burkina Faso and western Niger. They went missing while traveling across the Burkinabe-Nigerien border, from the town of Dori to the town of Tera…Morocco has tried to deepen its political and economic ties in the Sahel and export more goods to countries such as Niger. Tanzania’s President Hassan to Run in October Polls Tanzania’s ruling party on Sunday nominated President Samia Suluhu Hassan as its candidate in general elections due in October in the east African country. Hassan took office in 2021 after the sudden death of her authoritarian predecessor John Magufuli. Her party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), held a general assembly over the weekend at the end of which it said it had named her as its sole candidate for the October poll. After taking power, Hassan was initially feted for easing restrictions Magufuli had imposed on the opposition and the media in the country of around 67 million people. But rights groups and Western governments have since criticised what they see as renewed repression. Politicians belonging to the main opposition Chadema party have been arrested and several opposition figures have been abducted and murdered. RFI with AFP
Mozambique’s Maputo Port Volumes Dip after Post-election Unrest Mozambique’s largest port, Maputo, reported a 1% decline in volumes in 2024 mainly due to post-election protests that forced border closures and road blockages, [Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC)] said on Tuesday. The southeast African country was rocked by opposition protests after a disputed Oct. 9 vote won by Daniel Chapo and his Frelimo party, which has governed Mozambique since 1975. The unrest has left more than 300 people dead following a crackdown by security forces…The rail corridor from South Africa to Mozambique was also affected by the protests and blockages, paired with a derailment in October and November, which shut the line for a month, MPDC added. The Maputo port is handling growing volumes mainly driven by commodity exporters increasingly sending cargo through Mozambique to get around logistics bottlenecks in South Africa. Goods handled include coal, chrome, copper, and grains such as maize and wheat. Reuters
Sudan ‘Political’ Banknote Switch Causes Cash Crunch Sudan’s army-aligned government has issued new banknotes in areas it controls, reportedly aimed at undermining its paramilitary rivals but causing long queues at banks, disrupting trade and entrenching division. In a country already grappling with war and famine, the swap replaced 500 and 1,000 Sudanese pound banknotes (worth around $0.25 and $0.50 respectively) with new ones in seven states…In Port Sudan, now the de facto capital, frustration boiled over as banks failed to provide enough new notes…Grocers, rickshaw drivers, petrol stations and small shop owners are refusing to accept the old currency, preventing many transactions in a country reliant on cash…[A]nalysts say it is less about economics and more about gaining the upper hand in the war between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who leads the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). AFP
One Million People Have Fled Sudan War To South Sudan: UN Over one million people have now fled the Sudanese war into neighbouring South Sudan, according to the United Nations, which said the figures illustrated the scale of the unfolding humanitarian crisis. Tens of thousands have been killed and more than 12 million forced from their homes since conflict erupted between Sudan’s army and a rival paramilitary group in April 2023. More than 770,000 people have fled through the Joda border crossing in the last 21 months, while tens of thousands more have crossed into South Sudan elsewhere, bringing the total to more than a million, according to new UN data on Tuesday. Most of the million people crossing the border are South Sudanese nationals who had previously fled from civil war in the world’s newest country, UN refugee agency UNHCR said in a statement. AFP
‘Living Through Hell’: How North Africa Keeps Migrants From Europe Libya deported more than 600 men from Niger last month…The mass deportation is part of a common pattern: North African governments, funded by the European Union to tackle migration, using brutal tactics to block sub-Saharan Africa migrants from heading to Europe. The 613 men reached Niger’s closest town to the Libyan border on Jan. 3, disheveled and hungry, some barefoot and sick after months of detention and days of travel across the Sahara. Two of the men died shortly after arriving in Niger..[R]ights groups say the methods being used to keep sub-Saharan migrants from traveling to Europe include well-documented human rights violations, such as so-called desert dumps. Migrants have been abandoned in the Sahara without food or water, or kept in North African prisons where they face torture, sexual violence and starvation…Half a dozen men who were deported all said in interviews with The New York Times that they had been mistreated by the Libyan authorities. Libyan General Released after Arrest in Turin on ICC Warrant for Alleged War Crimes A Libyan general wanted for alleged war crimes and violence against inmates at a prison near Tripoli has been arrested in the northern Italian city of Turin – and then released after an apparent mistake by prosecutors. Osama Najim, also known as Almasri, was detained on Sunday on an international arrest warrant after a tipoff from Interpol, a source at the prosecutors office for the Piedmont region confirmed. But Rome’s court of appeal did not validate the warrant issued by the international criminal court (ICC) after the arrest was declared to be “irregular” by the city’s attorney general because it had not been preceded by discussions with Italy’s justice minister, Carlo Nordio…La Stampa reported that Najim, who was wanted by the ICC for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, as well as alleged rape and murder, is already on his way back to Tripoli. He was reportedly chief of Libya’s judicial police and director of Mitiga prison, a facility close to Tripoli condemned by human rights’ groups for the arbitrary detention, torture and abuse of political dissidents and migrants and refugees. It is not clear whether he is still in either role. The Guardian
Nigerian Green Groups Protest at Planned Return of Oil Drilling in Ogoniland Nigerian environmentalists on Tuesday condemned a government plan to resume oil production in the restive Ogoniland, demanding a halt until meaningful talks with local communities are completed. Ogoniland, in Nigeria’s coastal Rivers state, is a flashpoint for pollution in the oil-rich Niger River delta region where a $1 billion cleanup was launched in 2018 following a comprehensive 2011 United Nations Environmental Programme study. More than 20 groups…have criticised the plan, saying it disregards the environmental and social damage caused by decades of oil extraction. In a 14-point demand issued on Tuesday, the groups slammed the government for initiating talks with a select group from the region, arguing it undermines efforts towards environmental justice and a cleanup of the heavily polluted environment…Ogoniland locals have a storied history of resistance to oil extraction on their land. Their struggle gained international attention in the 1990s with the execution of environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni leaders by the then-Nigerian dictator Sani Abacha. Reuters
Zambia Hopes Mining Will Trigger Economic Revival Zambia is pinning its hopes on the mining sector for an economic revival after the worst drought in living memory caused a sharp slowdown in growth this year, its finance minister said on Tuesday. Situmbeko Musokotwane told an event on the economic outlook that new mines were opening imminently and old mines were re-investing to lift output…The government estimates last year’s copper production was over 770,000 tons, an increase on the 698,000 tons produced in 2023. Zambia wants to raise copper output to about 1 million tons by 2026 and further out to 3 million tons…The government has revised down its estimate for 2024 growth to 1.2% from the 2.3% forecast given in September due to the lingering effects of the drought, the presentation said…Zambian officials, including the secretary to the treasury and central bank governor, are in China to discuss some of the debt that still needs to be reworked, Musokotwane said. Kenya Eases Travel Requirements for Nearly All African Visitors Kenya will allow citizens of nearly all African countries to visit without needing prior authorisation, according to a new directive by the cabinet. Last year, Kenya introduced a “visa-free” policy that required most visitors to apply online for authorisation before leaving their country. But the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), which replaced the visa requirement for all visitors, was criticised as a “visa under another name”. On Tuesday, a cabinet statement said the ETA would be dropped for “all African countries except Somalia and Libya – due to security concerns”…The move to facilitate travel within the continent is also being pushed by the African Union (AU). Under the updated system, citizens of most African countries will be allowed to enter Kenya and stay ETA-free for up to two months. Members of the East African Community, which include Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi, can however stay for up to six months in line with the bloc’s policy. BBC

On Jan. 14, former UConn Huskies star center Donovan Clingan experienced an unfortunate setback for the second time this season.
In addition to suffering a grade 2 MCL sprain in November, Clingan injured his left ankle against the Brooklyn Nets in mid-January while attempting to protect the rim late in the contest.
While many feared Clingan would miss significant time with the Portland Trail Blazers, the dynamic 7-foot-2 big man was only forced to sit out five contests before returning to the lineup on Friday.
From dominating the defensive glass to flaunting his remarkable shot-blocking ability, Clingan played high-level basketball with the Trail Blazers during their 102-97 road victory over the Charlotte Hornets.
The two-time NCAA champion finished with 13 rebounds, four blocks, four assists, and four points in 18 productive minutes.
According to an NBA-centered social media account, Clingan’s impact on the hardwood is much more substantial than many know.
“Donovan Clingan has a block% of 8.6%,” Point Made Basketball said on X/Twitter Friday.
“How good is that? To put it into context, here are the block% of some well-known rim protectors this year (Victor Wembanyama- 10.8%, Anthony Davis- 5.9%, Myles Turner- 5.8%, Jaren Jackson Jr.-5.1%, and Rudy Gobert- 4.2%).”
If Clingan remains healthy and motivated to improve, the national media will have no choice but to acknowledge him in Portland.
Former UConn star center Donovan Clingan returned from his ankle injury in style last night, showcasing his dominance on the court once again. After missing several games due to the injury, Clingan made a triumphant return, leading his team to a resounding victory.
Clingan’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he displayed his impressive scoring ability, rebounding prowess, and shot-blocking skills. The crowd erupted in cheers as they witnessed the star player make his comeback with such finesse and confidence.
With his return, Clingan has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with in the basketball world. His determination and resilience in overcoming his injury serve as an inspiration to all aspiring athletes.
Fans and teammates alike are thrilled to have Clingan back on the court, and they can’t wait to see what he will accomplish next. As he continues to recover and regain his full strength, there is no doubt that Clingan will continue to make a significant impact in the game of basketball.

From one veteran opponent to another, the Ducks now host a suddenly red-hot Predators team determined to shake off a slow start and climb back into the playoff race. The Preds visit Orange County with wins in five straight games, most recently a pair of high-scoring victories, 6-5 and 7-5, over San Jose in a home-and-home set.
“We’re finding ways to win in games where early in the season, we didn’t,” longtime Nashville winger Filip Forsberg told the team’s Beat Reporter Brooks Bratten. “And certainly the effort is there. But there’s definitely things…we can tighten up, but we’ll take the positive. Excited for the win and get ready for the next game.”
Added head coach Andrew Brunette, “We’re believing. We seem to get tighter as a group every game. We’ve got some things to clean up. We’re still trying to stack some things…I think we’re starting to understand when we do certain things and play a certain way, it’s fun to play, it’s good to play. We’re getting rewarded for it, so we’ll keep chipping away where we are and fight to keep that feeling.”
Nashville was the NHL’s most aggressive team last season, adding free agents Jonathan Marchessault, Steven Stamkos and Brady Skjei on long-term contracts. Stamkos and Marchessault now skate on the club’s top line with Forsberg, and each are among the team’s top-four scoring leaders this season. Stamkos, a two-time champion with Tampa Bay, has scored five goals in his last five games.
The Predators (18-22-7, 43 points) sit seventh in the Central Division, 10 points behind a playoff position.
The Anaheim Ducks are gearing up to face off against the Nashville Predators tonight at the Honda Center. Both teams are coming off of strong performances in their last games and are looking to continue their winning streaks.
The Ducks have been on a roll lately, with key players like Trevor Zegras and Troy Terry leading the charge. They will need to bring their A-game against a tough Predators team that boasts a strong defensive lineup and a potent offense.
Meanwhile, the Predators will be looking to capitalize on their recent success and secure another win on the road. With players like Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg leading the charge, the Preds will be a formidable opponent for the Ducks.
This matchup promises to be an exciting and closely contested game, with both teams hungry for a win. Be sure to tune in tonight to see which team comes out on top in this thrilling showdown at the Honda Center.

“We play UConn Saturday; we play at Creighton (Jan. 29). I don’t know if the Lakers are next,” Miller said. “We may petition to see if we can play St. John’s a third time before the Big East Tournament. Maybe we go back to UConn. We’re kind of getting them all in a row here.”
It certainly feels that way as Xavier has played KenPom’s 32nd hardest schedule. Xavier will finish off its second three-game streak of ranked opponents this season on Saturday when No. 19 UConn visits Cintas Center.
Though with UConn’s NCAA NET Ranking (No. 34) this classifies as a Quadrant 2 contest, it’s likely the two-time defending national champions crack the top 30 down the road to bump it to a Quadrant 1. UConn is 16-2 during the regular season in February and March over the last two seasons.
“If our students weren’t here, we would not have won. They showed up in full force,” Miller said after beating the Wildcats. “They inspire our group and give us that home-court advantage that everyone associates with Xavier basketball, Cintas Center and the Big East.”
Xavier needs its home-court advantage to be the difference maker Saturday against a veteran UConn squad that has lost just once on the road (at Villanova).
The home-court edge must fuel Xavier’s defensive intensity against a UConn offense that is top 10 in KenPom in efficiency, effective field goal percentage and two-point shooting. UConn is just 1-3 this season when held to less than 70 points.
2. Xavier needs production from shorthanded bench
Xavier’s bench combined to go 0-for-2 from the field with just two points total in Wednesday’s overtime loss to St. John’s.
Jerome Hunter made a pair of overtime free throws and that was it for Xavier’s bench, which had a collective plus/minus (how XU did while bench players were on the court) of minus-25. John Hugley was a non-factor (one rebound in six-plus minutes), and Dante Maddox missed his lone shot attempt.
“To be able to win at this level, you have to be able to get a guy who can make one basket that doesn’t start the game,” Miller said.
One candidate to get going is Maddox, who can fill it up from distance off the bench but hasn’t done it consistently. In the previous meeting with UConn, Maddox poured in a season-high 22 points in an overtime loss.
Xavier must take advantage of a UConn defense that is one of the worst in the country at defending from the perimeter (No. 339) and Maddox is part of that equation.
3. Xavier must prevail during ‘Game Pressure’
Xavier has a problem with closing the door against top-tier opponents. Miller calls it “Game Pressure,” when good teams find a way to execute in the high-stakes final minutes of regulation.
The majority of Big East games are going to be tight at the end. The difference between finishing ninth in the conference and getting a first-round bye in the Big East Tournament is a handful of plays. Xavier hasn’t made many of those plays this season. It needs to change Saturday.
Xavier Musketeers vs. UConn Huskies
Tip: Saturday, 8 p.m., Cintas Center (10,212)
TV/Radio: FOX/55 KRC
Ratings: Xavier is No. 45 in KenPom and UConn is No. 35. Xavier is No. 54 in the NCAA NET Rankings and UConn is No. 34.
History: UConn leads the all-time series, 7-4 and have won four straight.
UConn Huskies scouting report
Record: 14-5 (6-2 Big East)
Head coach: Dan Hurley (155-63 at UConn, seventh season)
Offense: 80.8 ppg
Defense: 68.6 ppg
Overview: UConn had dropped two of three before pulling out an overtime win over Butler Tuesday. Seven of UConn’s eight Big East games have been decided by eight points or less.
Freshman phenom Liam McNeeley is nearing a return for the Huskies but will miss Saturday’s matchup against Xavier, Dan Hurley told reporters Friday afternoon. The former five-star prospect and projected NBA Lottery pick has missed four consecutive games with a high ankle sprain. He had 14 points against Xavier in December.
Veteran Alex Karaban did not practice Friday but will be available against Xavier, Hurley said.
Projected starting lineup
(Pos., Height, Stats)
Hassan Diarra (G, 6’2″, 8.9 ppg)
Solo Ball (G, 6’3″, 14.2 ppg)
Alex Karaban (F, 6’8″, 15.8 ppg)
Jaylin Stewart (F, 6’7″, 5.6 ppg)
Samson Johnson (C, 6’10”, 7.9 ppg)
Xavier Musketeers scouting report
Record: 12-8 (4-5 Big East)
Head coach: Sean Miller (175-83 at Xavier, eighth season)
Offense: 77 ppg
Defense: 69.3 ppg
Projected starters
(Pos., Height, Stats)
Dayvion McKnight (G, 6’0″, 10.4 ppg)
Ryan Conwell (G, 6’4″, 16.7 ppg)
Marcus Foster (G, 6’5″, 8.4 ppg)
Jerome Hunter (F, 6’8″, 6.1 ppg)
Zach Freemantle (F, 6’9″, 16.6 ppg)
Players to watch
Xavier lost Dailyn Swain to an ankle sprain while the sophomore was having one of his best games (career-high 16 points) vs. St. John’s. Swain’s status is up in the air Saturday, so it falls on Jerome Hunter to turn his season around.
In 38 minutes over the last two games, Hunter has gone without a field goal and grabbed just two rebounds in 38 minutes.
Zach Freemantle missed the previous matchup with UConn. He’ll lead the defensive charge Saturday against an elite Huskies offense from inside the arc. UConn punished Xavier for 50 points in the paint in December.
McNeeley might miss another game, but 6-foot-10 backup center Tarris Reed Jr. can wreck games. He averages 9.7 points and 7.3 rebounds off the bench while shooting 65.5% from the field. He had one of his five double-doubles against Xavier in the first meeting (20 points, 13 rebounds).
Strong Defense: The Musketeers will need to bring their A-game on defense to shut down UConn’s high-powered offense. This means playing tight man-to-man defense, contesting shots, and limiting second-chance opportunities.
Efficient Offense: Xavier will need to execute on offense and make the most of their scoring opportunities. This means moving the ball well, finding open looks, and converting on their shots. They’ll also need to take care of the ball and minimize turnovers against a tough UConn defense.
Home Court Advantage: Playing at Cintas Center gives the Musketeers a significant advantage, as they will have the support of their home crowd. They’ll need to feed off the energy of the fans and use it to fuel their performance on both ends of the court. Embracing the home court advantage could be key to securing a win against a ranked opponent like UConn.

About Connecticut
Located in Storrs, Connecticut.
Connecticut went 33-6 last season, reaching the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies defeated Jackson State, #22 Syracuse, #17 Duke and #3 USC, then fell to #2 Iowa.
The Huskies have claimed 11 National Championships, the last coming at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season.
Head coach Geno Auriemma began his 40th season as the helm for the Huskies. Auriemma entered the season with a 1,213-162 record.
Scouting #6 Connecticut (18-2, 9-0 BIG EAST)
Connecticut comes to Omaha on an eight-game win streak, with the last loss coming against #7 USC (72-70) on Dec. 21. The Huskies only other loss of the season came at #8 Notre Dame (79-68) on Dec. 12.
Over their last two games the Huskies have been tremendous with a 96-36 win over Seton Hall (Jan. 19) and a 100-57 victory over Villanova (Jan. 22).
Connecticut is led on offense by the trio of Paige Bueckers (19.4 ppg), Sarah Strong (17.2 ppg and 7.7 rpg) as well as Azzi Fudd (11.3 ppg). As a team the Huskies are shooting 51.8% from the field and average better than 80 points per game.
Defensively UConn is holding opponents to 50.9 ppg, forcing teams to shoot just 34.9% from the field.
Scouting Creighton (16-3, 8-0 BIG EAST)
Winning 15 of their last 16 games, the Bluejays’ have dominated, the only exception to a perfect 16-game record came in the Bluejays’ loss to #1 UCLA on the road.
Bringing the firepower to the Creighton offense are Morgan Maly and Lauren Jensen. The two veterans consistently deliver double digit point performances to bolster the Bluejay offense, with Maly averaging 17.9 points per game and Jensen following just behind with 17.7 points per game.
Preparing to face the Connecticut Huskies for the 10th time since 2014, the Bluejays enter the matchup with a seven-game win streak and perfect record in conference play. Though the Bluejays have yet to take down the Huskies at D.J Sokol arena in the last 10 years, this season Creighton holds a perfect 6-0 record on their home floor.
Creighton Continues to Raise Funds for the Hope Lodge
The annual Creighton vs. Cancer Pink Out, presented by Methodist and CHI Health, will take place on January 25th, and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever. For the first time, Creighton will host both Pink Outs on the same day as part of a doubleheader that will see the men’s basketball team face Seton Hall at 12:30 p.m., followed by the women’s basketball team hosting Connecticut at 4:30 p.m. Both games will take place at CHI Health Center Omaha.
Bluejay players will wear pink shooting shirts and pink-accented jerseys for each game. Those shirts were auctioned off earlier this month with all funds raised go to benefit Hope Lodge Omaha.
The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Nebraska provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers who must travel to Omaha to receive their lifesaving treatment. More than just a roof over their heads, it’s a nurturing community that helps patients access the care they need.
The annual Creighton University Pink Out athletic events have combined to nearly $1,000,000 to benefit the Hope Lodge facility here in Omaha and the guests it serves, with over $468,000 of that coming from the jersey auctions.
Maly Approaching Bluejays’ Three-Point Record
The anticipated matchup with the Connecticut Huskies could hold more implications for Morgan Maly and the Bluejays than just another crucial win in competitive BIG EAST Play. Veteran sharpshooter Maly sits just three triples away from tying the record for most three-point field goals made.
As it stands, Kathy Halligan holds the title, with 309 three-point field goals made in her time as a Bluejay from 1988-92. Ahead of the contest with the Huskies, Maly currently boasts 306 made triples, needing three more to tie and four to pass Halligan.
Also of note, veteran guard Lauren Jensen sits in as fifth, with 266 made three-pointers since coming to Creighton in 2021.
Treys Are Automatic For Maly Senior Morgan Maly has a streak of games with at least one three pointer is 39 straight games, dating back to Dec. 30, 2023 when she went 0-for-5 against St. John’s. In her 136 games Morgan has hit at least one three-ball in 127 games.
Record Crowd Expected Against Huskies
Playing in the CHI Health Center for just the fourth time in program history, the Creighton Ticket Office is projecting Creighton’s attendance record will be broken. All-time the Bluejays are 1-2 in the CHI, falling to Drake and Kansas while posting a win over Georgetown.

Bluejays Have Protected Their Nest
Creighton Women’s Basketball is 8-0 in the BIG EAST & hosts a UConn team that is 9-0 in the BIG EAST.
In the last 25 years, it’s just the 3rd time two teams that were 8-0 or better in BIG EAST play faced each other.
On Feb. 5, 2011, a 9-0 UConn team beat an 8-0 DePaul team, 89-66.
On Feb. 7, 2006, a 9-0 Rutgers team beat a 10-0 UConn team, 60-56.
There’s NEVER been 2 BIG EAST MBB teams that were 8-0 or better in league play to face off, and only one 7-0 vs 7-0 meeting (1/23/95; UConn-SYR).
