  • Bitter cold, coastal storm lead to ‘unique’ snow chance in North Carolina

The coldest air since Christmas Eve of 2022 is set to arrive in the upcoming week. Temperatures may not climb above freezing from Monday afternoon to Thursday morning.

    Cold Weather Advisory Tuesday morning

At the same time, a storm system glides along the Gulf Coast and the East Coast, providing the chance of winter weather for areas that don’t often see it.

Let’s spend this story diving into what we’re tracking, why it’s unique and when we expect to learn more.

    What are WRAL meteorologists watching?

We’re watching a system riding the East Coast. However, there’s a lot of dry air to the west that will limit how far inland the snow will reach.

Snow moves in Tuesday evening, but it’s light

We know it’s going to be really cold.

That said, the upper-level air pattern is out of sync and not pulling much moisture in our direction. Snow totals, if any, will be light for most of you reading this.

I went into extensive detail on the storm dynamics in this Facebook post Sunday.

How much snow are we getting?

A lot of snow-lovers are going to be bummed by this storm, seeing as it favors the coast.

Snow forecast through very early Wednesday

One thing you should know is that anything that falls will stick. It’s cold – very cold. Even if you get a half an inch of snow, roads will be slick Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

So for now, the greatest chance of wintry impacts (ie. slick roads and closures) is near and east of I-95.

Also, keep in mind that most any snow that does make it this far west will fall while most of us are asleep. You blink, and you miss it.

Timing and threats from light snow in parts of the area

Check back for updates in the days ahead. As new data comes out and we look for any trends, we’ll pass that info along to you on the WRAL News app.

    Snow at the Beach!

We’re used to talking about snow in the mountains and sunshine at the beach, but this storm system will be a complete opposite of that. In fact, some lesser-expected areas like Houston and New Orleans will cash in on more snow than our area.

Snow favors coastal areas through mid-week

Bitter cold, coastal storm lead to ‘unique’ snow chance in North Carolina

North Carolina residents are bracing for a potentially rare snow event as a coastal storm combined with bitter cold temperatures is set to bring wintry weather to the region. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for several counties, warning of the possibility of snow accumulation and treacherous road conditions.

This “unique” snow chance comes as a result of a coastal low pressure system interacting with the cold air mass currently in place over the Carolinas. While snow is not uncommon in the region during the winter months, the combination of factors leading to this event has forecasters predicting a more significant snowfall than usual.

Residents are urged to take precautions and stay informed about the changing weather conditions. Road crews are preparing to treat roads and bridges in anticipation of the wintry weather, but travel may still be hazardous. It’s important for residents to stay off the roads if possible and to exercise caution if they must venture out.

This unexpected snow chance serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of winter weather in North Carolina. It’s always best to be prepared for the unexpected and to stay informed about the latest forecasts and advisories. Stay safe and stay warm, North Carolina!

  • ‘God is giving America another chance’

Speaking to Fox News Digital just days before President Donald Trump’s inauguration as 47th president, Pastor Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, expressed “gratitude to God” about Trump’s re-election and his hope for the future of the country.

“I believe most evangelicals, conservative Catholics and conservative Jews all view President Trump’s re-election with a feeling of relief and gratitude to God,” said the faith leader in an on-camera interview. (See the video at the top of this article.)

“There’s a very real sense that our country has been in a downward spiral the last four years, and mainly because of our departure from the Judeo-Christian foundation of our nation,” said Jeffress. “To many people, I believe President Trump’s re-election represents God giving America another chance — perhaps her last chance — to reverse this downward trajectory.”

Faith Adviser To Trump Says He Can Transcend Political Differences, Urges All Americans To Give Him A Chance

And “I’m talking about things that have caused confusion in our country over the last four years,” he said.

“Embracing the transgender agenda, which is confusing our children. Wavering in our support of Israel, our only reliable ally in the Middle East. And following extreme environmental positions that may have actually caused rather than prevented some of the disasters we’re seeing.”

All of these things, said Jeffress, “have caused people of faith to lament — but they feel very hopeful now that President Trump is about to enter the White House [again] and they’re going to be filled with prayers for him.”

The pastor will be participating in certain inauguration events, he said, but was not at liberty to name the specifics ahead of those events.

Baptism Of The Lord Reveals 4 ‘Key Truths’ Of Jesus’ Identity And Mission

Jeffress said he hopes all Americans will heed the Bible and pray for all “those who are in authority” and in a governing capacity in this country.

“Now, I know some of our viewers and readers may be saying, ‘Pastor, are you a hypocrite? Would you have said the same thing about Joe Biden?’” said Jeffress. “And in fact, I wrote an op-ed piece for Fox News when Biden was elected, saying we may be lamenting his election, but we need to obey the Bible and pray for him.”

Added Jeffress to Fox News Digital, “The Bible says we don’t select whom we pray for. We pray for all leaders. And I would remind people that if President Trump wins in his agenda, which I think he will, then all of America wins, not just Republicans but our entire country.”

He went on, “President Trump has been a good friend of mine for the last 10 years. I’ve talked to him recently. I’ll talk to him again next week. And I really believe he wants to unite this country.”

And “I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised at the unity that he creates in our country,” said Jeffress. “Not everybody’s going to agree with every policy he initiates, but I think they’re going to see that he wants what is best for the country we all love.”

Jeffress said there is “no official” faith advisory role on his part, but rather “an informal friendship that I’ve cherished for these last 10 years. I just basically like President Trump,” he said. “He’s a very likable person. And I can tell you, he loves our country.”

He said that “there’s no sane reason he would give up a life of luxury to do this, to risk his life like he did twice in the last few months. He does this because he loves America and wants what’s best for our country.

“And I think Americans ought to be able to follow any man or woman who has that kind of feeling about our country.”

Jeffress added that America’s “greatness is in our goodness. And the Bible says the only goodness we can have is by our right relationship with God. And I hope we’ll begin not only this New Year, but this new term of the Trump administration with a new commitment to follow God. If God blesses a nation, nothing can thwart His purpose or our success.”

At the same time, Jeffress noted how important it is to recognize very real struggles and challenges — “and I know at the forefront of people’s thinking right now are the fires in Los Angeles and the devastation that has caused.”

California Wildfires: Navy Veteran And Mother Shares Heart-wrenching Evacuation From Her Home And Community

For tragedies like this, he said, “it’s natural for people to ask the ‘why’ question. Why do these things happen? Why do they happen to me? And I would suggest that sometimes this is an unanswerable question. Instead, the real question we ought to be asking is a ‘who’ question. Who is in control of a world that seems out of control?”

Jeffress shared an example from his own life.

“A few years ago, my wife, Amy, and I were driving in the night, out in the middle of West Texas, out in the darkness during a driving rainstorm — and our headlights malfunctioned and went out. And so we were driving in the darkness.

“I couldn’t see six inches in front of me, but I noticed an 18-wheeler behind me and I slowed down, and I allowed it to pass me. And once it was in front of me, I focused on its taillights. And I followed it into the nearest town.”

“And when we find ourselves in a maelstrom of confusion and suffering,” added Jeffress, “we wonder why these things are happening. There are three lights about God that we can focus in on. First, God is loving. The Bible says God is close to the brokenhearted. Never forget God is love.”

“Secondly, God is sovereign. That means He’s in control. Nothing takes Him by surprise.

“And finally, God is powerful enough to take the worst things that happen to us and use them for our own good. The apostle Paul said, ‘For God causes all things to work together for good.’”

Mother and little girl hands folded praying.

“God will deliver us to the other side safely.”

“To those who love Him, that doesn’t mean everything that happens to us is good, but it means God is so gracious and powerful that He can take the worst things in our life, like a fire, a flood, the breakup of a relationship, an illness — He can take those horrible things and use them for our good.”

Added Jeffress, “If we focus on those truths about God when we pass through a storm, then God will deliver us to the other side safely.”

In the midst of chaos and uncertainty, it seems that God is giving America another chance. Despite all the division, hate, and turmoil that has been plaguing our nation, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

With the recent changes in leadership and the ongoing efforts to heal and unite, it is clear that God is working in mysterious ways to bring about a positive transformation in our country. We have been given a second chance to come together, to love one another, and to create a better future for all.

  • Former WWE star believes that Tessa Blanchard should be given a second chance in wrestling

During an interview with TVInsider.com, former WWE star Matt Hardy gave his thoughts on Tessa Blanchard coming back to TNA Wrestling despite her past backstage heat…

“One thing I can say is I wasn’t there when the Tessa Blanchard drama went down. I know when she returned, I know there were some people saying, ‘I can’t believe she was back.’ I said, ‘You should probably talk to her or listen to her at least.’ She was willing to talk to anyone and hear any grievances. I know the stuff with the girls she was going to be working with. I know that was being worked out.

I just think we live in a society where some people forget people are going to make mistakes. If myself or my brother hadn’t been given second chances or multiple chances, we wouldn’t be here right now. We have to be willing to give someone another chance, especially if they work hard and work on themselves and earn it and trying to legitimately be a better person. I think forgiveness is something we still need to honor, especially if someone is legitimately working hard to get that. I feel that what Tessa has been going through. It’s going to be interesting to see how impactful her coming back to TNA into the women’s division truly is.”

Former WWE star Mickie James recently spoke out in support of Tessa Blanchard, stating that she believes the talented wrestler deserves a second chance in the wrestling industry. Blanchard has faced controversy in the past due to allegations of bullying and racism, but James believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn and grow from their mistakes.

In a recent interview, James expressed her belief that Blanchard has the potential to be a great asset to any wrestling promotion and should not be defined by her past actions. She emphasized the importance of forgiveness and second chances in the wrestling community, stating that Blanchard has the talent and drive to succeed in the industry.

While some may still have reservations about Blanchard’s past behavior, James is hopeful that fans and wrestling promotions will be willing to give her a chance to prove herself and show that she has learned from her mistakes. Ultimately, James believes that Blanchard’s talent and passion for wrestling should not be overshadowed by her past, and that she should be given the opportunity to prove herself and thrive in the industry once again.

  • Raiders DE Maxx Crosby wants ‘stability and winning’ from next HC, chance to be ‘playing at this time of year’

“At the end of the day, the most important thing to me, like you said, is stability and winning,” Crosby said. “I want the chance to actually win and be in those games, be playing at this time of the year. I know what I bring to the table as a leader and as a player and I want everyone else on board. My main focus is being in that environment. So whoever is going to give the Raiders the best chance to do that, I’m all on board for that.”

So far, the Raiders have scheduled or completed interviews with four candidates for GM and eight for HC, with the latter generating significant interest from outside the building. Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is viewed by some to be a front-runner, while names like Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and North Carolina HC Bill Belichick have also gotten internet buzz, despite neither having been brought in for an interview.

Asked about some of the names swirling around social media, both speculated and official candidates, Crosby declined to give his opinion on which direction the team should go, though he did heap praise on all the figures mentioned, including calling Johnson “probably the best play-caller in football right now.”

Whoever does come out on top at the end of this coaching sweepstakes will inherit a roster that has notable questions at quarterback and plenty of draft capital and cap space to address areas of need on the roster. But, one expected beacon of consistency amidst the turnover is Crosby, who has been a leader of the defense in his six years and currently is under contract until 2027.

While Crosby is recovering from ankle surgery that ended his 2024 season early — the first time the defensive end had missed any time in his career — the four-time Pro Bowler said Friday that he should be walking in a week and has already gotten back in the weight room during the rehab process. Once that has progressed, attention can turn to discussions about solidifying the star defensive end’s future in the Silver and Black.

“Right now I’m just focused on my process and my day to day and getting healthy, we’re going to see what happens with the coaching situation,” Crosby said. “You know I’ve been with the Raiders for six years, I’m currently under contract, but I think I’ve talked about it before, I have no guaranteed money left, there’s a lot of things that need to be discussed, we’re going to do that and focus on taking it one step at a time, and we’ll move accordingly.

“For me, I’m happy in general, get to spend some more time with my daughter around this time of year, and we’ll let it all play out how it’s supposed to. So regardless, I’m in a great place, and we’re going to have those discussions real soon.”

The Las Vegas Raiders have had their fair share of coaching changes in recent years, and defensive end Maxx Crosby is looking for some stability and success from the team’s next head coach.

In a recent interview, Crosby expressed his desire for a coach who can bring stability to the organization and lead the team to winning seasons. He emphasized the importance of having a strong leader who can keep the team focused and motivated throughout the ups and downs of a long NFL season.

Crosby also mentioned his eagerness to be playing meaningful games at this time of year, referring to the postseason. The Raiders have struggled to make it to the playoffs in recent years, and Crosby is hoping that a new head coach can help turn things around and give the team a shot at competing for a championship.

As the Raiders search for their next head coach, it’s clear that players like Maxx Crosby are looking for someone who can provide stability, success, and the opportunity to be playing in the postseason. Let’s see if the organization can find the right fit to lead the team to greater heights.

  • Updated models show better chance of wintry weather for Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Live 5 First Alert Weather team is monitoring an increased chance for wintry weather starting on Tuesday for the Lowcountry.

Click here to download the free Live 5 First Alert Weather app..

Live 5 First Alert Meteorologist Bill Walsh said confidence is growing that winter weather will affect the area on Tuesday and Wednesday with a possible second shot coming on Thursday as a second wave passes to the east.

Before that wintry precipitation, an arctic blast will move in on Monday and last through all of next week. Sunday’s high of 65 degrees will give way to a high of just 41 degrees on Monday, with lows Monday night falling to 25.

RELATED: THE LIST: Warming shelters open ahead of winter storm

The storm system that will deliver the wintry precipitation is set to arrive on Tuesday afternoon and continue affecting the area through Wednesday morning. Walsh says it will be a fast-moving system.

The team declared Tuesday and Wednesday as First Alert Weather Days because of the chances that parts of the Lowcountry could see wintry weather.

Any effects on travel could be felt starting Tuesday afternoon, he says. Any precipitation that melts during the day will freeze overnight when the temperature drops below freezing.

Lowcountry school districts have not yet released plans about whether they will hold classes or switch to eLearning days because of the wintry weather.

Those decisions are expected to begin coming in over the next couple of days as the track of the storm continues to come into sharper focus.

On top of that, the first estimates of how much freezing rain, sleet or even snow parts of the Lowcountry might receive are expected to be more clear by late Saturday night.

That, Walsh says, will based on the storm’s track.

“A deviation of 30 to 50 miles could mean the difference between a messy mix and an all-snow accumulating event,” he says.

Until those estimates become more clear, he says the chance of accumulating snow is definitely on the table, along with rain, freezing rain, sleet and a mix. But if the storm track stays farther south and any accompanying moisture stays offshore, that could reduce how much wintry weather is reported.

Exciting news for Lowcountry residents! Updated weather models are now showing a better chance of wintry weather heading our way. This means we may be in for some snow, sleet, or freezing rain in the coming days.

While it’s still too early to determine exact timing and amounts, it’s a good idea to start preparing for the possibility of wintry weather. Make sure you have necessary supplies on hand, such as food, water, blankets, and batteries. Stay tuned to local weather updates for the latest information.

Keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared to adjust your plans as needed. Stay safe and stay warm, Lowcountry! #wintryweather #Lowcountry #snowday

  • Is UFC 311 still taking place in LA this weekend? ‘No chance’ of location change as Dana White gives new update amid wildfires

UFC 311 will take place in Los Angeles this evening despite the ongoing wildfire crisis spreading across the city.

The first major event of the 2025 UFC calendar was thought to potentially have to move location due to the devastating scenes.

LA has been devastated by wildfire over the last few days

A gigantic wildfire has spread through LA and in just a few days, more than 10,000 structures had been impacted, with at least 25 people losing their lives.

Sport then took a backseat, with the risk being too high to play any fixtures in the affected areas as the fire continued to spread.

In the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers called off their games while in the NFL, the LA Rams moved stadium to play.

That left many question marks over the venue for UFC 311 which has been planned to go ahead at the Intuit Dome…

Is UFC 311 still taking place in LA?

UFC 311 is still going ahead in Los Angeles.

That is according to president Dana White who gave a new update on the situation on Wednesday afternoon.

“No, there’s no chance we move,” White told The Jim Rome Show on after being asked about a location switch.

“We’ll be there on Saturday. 100%

“I think this event is definitely going to be a boost for the people who live there [in Los Angeles].”

Those comments came after he remained wary of the event moving if the fires in LA got worse.

White has given a new update on the situation

    2

White has given a new update on the situationCredit: AFP

Speaking on a stream with social media star Adin Ross on Sunday, White said: “Well, if the fire gets bad, we are coming to Vegas.

“Yeah, we’ll move it to Vegas. If it gets too bad. But as of now? It’s all go. The NBA is gonna go this week. We are gonna go.”

The LA Clippers beat the Miami Heat 109-98 in an NBA match at the Intuit Dome on Tuesday.

The LA Lakers also played at the Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday, losing 126-102 to the San Antonio Spurs.

As well as the comments from the UFC boss, the California State Athletic Commission has also spoken about the situation.

They said: “We are watching the ongoing wildfires and the subsequent emergency and disaster response in the Los Angeles area.

‘It’s gone forever’ – LA soccer star Ali Riley crushed by devastating impact of wildfires

“Our hearts are with the residents of the region, and we appreciate the efforts of first responders in keeping the community safe.

“At this time, no decisions have been made about moving UFC 311, but we will continue to work with state and local officials and the UFC to determine the best course of action.”

Since then, nothing has changed, so UFC 311 is taking place in Los Angeles.

The BBC have reported that the winds that have fanned the wildfires are ‘expected to kick up’ this week.

Forecasters have again cautioned ‘extreme fire danger’ in the north-west of the city centre with the Intuit Dome located around 20 miles south of the Palisades fire which is still burning.

Should it go ahead as planned, UFC 311 will get started at 11pm UK time before the preliminary fights start at 1am on Sunday morning.

The main card, which included two title fights, ae expected to get going at around 3am on Sunday UK time.

Islam Makhachev will defend his UFC lightweight title against Renato Moicano while Merab Dvalishvili aims to keep his bantamweight belt against Umar Nurmagomedov.

As wildfires continue to ravage parts of California, many fans are wondering if UFC 311 will still be taking place in Los Angeles this weekend. The good news is that there is “no chance” of a location change, according to UFC President Dana White.

Despite the wildfires causing devastation in the region, White has assured fans that the event will go ahead as planned. The safety of fighters, staff, and fans is always a top priority for the UFC, and White has stated that they are monitoring the situation closely.

So for all you fight fans out there, rest assured that UFC 311 will still be taking place in LA this weekend. Get ready for some epic battles in the octagon!

  • Lakers may give second chance to $28.4 million Jazz guard via trade

A Los Angeles Lakers player reunion could come to fruition in the next few weeks.

An electric Utah Jazz bench scorer who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Lakers may return to Los Angeles in a surprise deal.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have less than a month to make significant changes to their roster,” Sports Illustrated’s Ricardo Sandoval wrote Tuesday.

“The Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline is slowly approaching, and the Lakers are expected to be at the forefront of things. Los Angeles has been linked to many players on the market, some of whom have been their former players.”

“The Lakers have lost many of the great players they once had on their roster, and this trade proposal sees them reunite with one of their former players, current Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson.”

“This trade idea (Gabe Vincent, Jalen Hood-Schifino, and a 2025 second-round pick to the Jazz for Clarkson) sees Clarkson return to Los Angeles in exchange for two guards and a draft pick.”

“The 32-year-old guard has evolved into a reliable scorer and veteran presence. This season, he’s averaging 16.0 points per game, shooting 41 percent from the field and 34 percent from the three-point range.”

“While Clarkson is currently sidelined with a torn plantar fascia in his left foot, he has two years, including this one, left on his deal, and his proven scoring ability makes him an appealing option for the Lakers.”

The Jazz will continue to lose games with their current roster, but Clarkson has been an underrated offensive weapon for the struggling 10-28 ball club.

As a fearless isolation scorer who won’t hesitate to launch difficult jumpers on the move, Clarkson has arguably been Utah’s second-unit MVP.

However, dating back to his Los Angeles days, the Missouri product hasn’t prioritized scoring efficiently, one of the most concerning flaws an NBA player can possess.

Still, with the Lakers feeling pressured to make another meaningful trade, Clarkson could soon receive a call from Rob Pelinka.

More NBA: Lakers predicted to complete blockbuster trade for $146 million Heat superstar

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering giving a second chance to Utah Jazz guard, Mike Conley, who is earning $28.4 million this season. According to sources, the Lakers are exploring the possibility of acquiring Conley via trade in order to bolster their backcourt and add another veteran presence to their roster.

Conley, who has been a consistent performer throughout his career, could provide valuable leadership and playmaking skills to the Lakers, who are looking to make a deep playoff run this season. Despite his hefty salary, Conley’s experience and skillset could make him a valuable addition to the team.

While nothing is set in stone yet, the Lakers are said to be in talks with the Jazz about a potential trade for Conley. If the deal goes through, it could be a game-changer for the Lakers and significantly improve their chances of competing for a championship this season.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Eva Lys lost for words after making most of Australian Open second chance

Eva Lys’s (23) bags were packed and her flight booked. But now the German is into the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time after making the most of her second chance at the Australian Open.

The “lucky loser” defeated France’s Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 on Thursday in the second round, falling onto her back on court after sealing victory.

I don’t think I have any words to describe it yet,” Lys, who is ranked 128th in the world, said.

It has been a whirlwind few days for Ukraine-born Lys.

She lost in the final round of qualifying in Melbourne last week, her hopes of making the first major of the year seemingly over.

But she hung about on the off-chance that another player would drop out and 13th seed Anna Kalinskaya did just that on Tuesday, suddenly giving Lys another Australian Open life.

She duly defeated home player Kimberly Birrell in straight sets in the first round of the main draw.

I found out about it 10 minutes before the match so I didn’t have time to get nervous,” Lys, who lost in the first round at the Australian Open two years ago, said.

A “lucky loser” is a player who loses in qualifying but later gets a ticket into the main draw following another player’s withdrawal, usually because of illness or injury.

I was panicking a little bit because I didn’t really prepare my drinks,” said Lys, who was born in Kyiv and moved to Germany with her family when she was two years old.

I didn’t have match clothes on so I went to the locker room, got changed straight away, and then they called my name.

So no warm-up, no anything. Maybe that’s the key for the next match.”

Lys faces Romania’s 82nd-ranked Jaqueline Cristian in the third round.

Eva Lys, the up-and-coming tennis player from France, found herself lost for words after making the most of her second chance at the Australian Open. Lys, who had initially lost in the qualifying rounds, was given a lucky loser spot in the main draw and made the most of it by advancing to the fourth round.

In a post-match interview, Lys struggled to articulate her feelings, saying, “I am just so grateful for this opportunity and I am trying to make the most of it. I am speechless, I can’t believe I am here.”

Lys’s remarkable run at the Australian Open has captured the attention of tennis fans around the world, and she is now considered a dark horse in the tournament. With each match, Lys is proving that she belongs among the elite players in the game.

As she continues her journey at the Australian Open, one thing is clear: Eva Lys is a force to be reckoned with, and her inspiring story is one that will be remembered for years to come.

  • Cowboys cut RB Ezekiel Elliott to give him chance at playoffs

Cowboys cut RB Ezekiel Elliott to give him chance at playoffs

FRISCO, Texas — Ezekiel Elliott‘s return to the Dallas Cowboys is over with one game left to play.

The team waived its No. 3 all-time rushing leader Tuesday, marking the second time the Cowboys have released Elliott in three years. He was released after the 2022 season for salary cap reasons and spent 2023 with the New England Patriots.

The Cowboys made the move now to give Elliott, 29, a chance to join a playoff contender if he clears waivers.

“Out of respect and appreciation for Zeke and wanting to provide him with an opportunity to pursue any potential playoff participation possible, we are releasing him from the Cowboys roster today,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said in a statement. “As I have said many times previously, Zeke’s impact as one of the greatest to ever play with the Star on their helmet will never change and is etched in our record books and history forever. We thank him, love him and wish him the absolute best.”

Elliott’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, thanked Jones “for affording Zeke this unique opportunity in granting us our release.”

“Even though nothing is imminent Zeke is excited about the possibilities and is grateful. He’s got a lot of good football left in him, and will remain a Dallas Cowboy for life,” he said in a statement released to multiple media outlets.

After the 2024 draft, Elliott signed a one-year deal worth up to $3 million if he had met incentives based on reaching 1,100 scrimmage yards, 10 touchdowns and 51% of playing time, plus the Cowboys making the playoffs.

Elliott has 74 carries for 226 yards and three touchdowns on the season. He has caught 12 passes for 69 yards.

Elliott did not top the 40 yards he had in the season opener against the Cleveland Browns. He has not had a run longer than 11 yards this season. He was deactivated for the Nov. 3 game at the Atlanta Falcons for missing meetings, according to multiple sources. His future with the team came into question after that game, but he remained on the 53-man roster.

Coach Mike McCarthy recently said Elliott has been a consummate teammate and supported Rico Dowdle, who has become the lead back and topped 1,000 yards on the season last week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Elliott has been active for every game since the penalty, but he has topped 14 snaps just once in the past eight games. In the Week 16 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Elliott scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, giving him 71 in his career as a Cowboy. Only Hall of Famers Tony Dorsett (72) and Emmitt Smith (153) have more in franchise history.

From 2016 to 2022 with the Cowboys, Elliott ran for 8,262 yards. The three-time Pro Bowl selection set team rookie records with 1,631 yards and posted 30 100-yard games in his time with the Cowboys. He led the NFL in rushing in 2016 and 2018 but has not topped 1,000 yards since 2020 (1,002).

In fact, Elliott’s production has dropped every season he has played.

Behind Dowdle, the Cowboys now have Deuce Vaughn on the active roster with Dalvin Cook and Malik Davis on the practice squad.

The Dallas Cowboys have made a shocking move by cutting star running back Ezekiel Elliott in order to give him a chance at making the playoffs with another team.

Despite Elliott’s impressive performances in recent seasons, the Cowboys have struggled to secure a playoff spot, prompting the team to make this bold decision.

By releasing Elliott, the Cowboys are hoping that he will be picked up by a playoff contender who can utilize his talents and give him a chance to compete for a championship.

While this move may come as a surprise to many fans, the Cowboys believe it is the best decision for both the team and Elliott in order to give him a shot at reaching the postseason.

It will be interesting to see where Elliott lands and how he performs in his new team’s quest for the playoffs. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
