A man arrested Monday after allegedly bringing two Molotov cocktails to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., said he initially intended to kill House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and newly confirmed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, federal prosecutors said.

Ryan English turned himself in to the U.S. Capitol Police, saying he had two Molotov cocktails made with 50 milliliter Absolut Vodka bottles and multiple knives, according to court documents. He is charged with carrying a firearm, dangerous weapon, explosive or incendiary device on Capitol grounds and unlawful receipt or possession of a firearm.

During a search, officers found English with a folding knife and Molotov cocktails in his jacket pockets, authorities said.

“USCP K9s swept and cleared the area, while other USCP officers and agents tracked down English’s car along the 900 block of Independence Avenue, SW,” the Capitol Police statement said. “Investigators uncovered materials to make additional Molotov cocktails inside the vehicle.”

He allegedly told investigators that he intended to kill Bessent, who was confirmed to lead the Treasury Department on Monday.

A receipt found in English’s pants pocket had a message that read:

“Judith dear god I am so sorry. You must understand I can feel myself dying slowly b/c of my heart,” the message states. “This is terrible but I cant do nothing while nazis kill my sisters. I love you. This is awful. Im so sorry. I love u. Please stay alive and heal. you can. you are strong enough. F— them for pushing us so far. you dont deserve this. Im so sorry for lying and plotting and lying. Please survive.”

Federal prosecutors said English left his home in Massachusetts on Sunday and traveled to Washington with the intent of killing Hegseth, whom he referred to as a “Nazi,” and Johnson, and burning down the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.

At some point, English stopped at a library in Chevy Chase, Maryland, where he saw posts on Reddit mentioning the confirmation hearings for Bessent. He allegedly altered his target to focus on Bessent and purchased alcohol bottles to make the Molotov cocktails to “throw them at Bessent’s feet,” court documents state.

He told authorities that he planned to stab Bessent if he was able to get close to him. While constructing his plan, English surmised that he would have to kill at least three Capitol Police officers to get to Bessent.

Realizing he was unlikely to get close to Bessent, English “expressed acceptance and content with the possibility of suicide by cop.”

Since January 2024, the USCP has confiscated more than 50 weapons, outside of the congressional buildings, that were illegally on Capitol grounds, the agency said.

In a shocking turn of events, a Massachusetts man has been charged with carrying Molotov cocktails to the Capitol. This alarming discovery comes in the wake of the violent insurrection that took place on January 6th, 2021.

The man, who has been identified as John Smith, was arrested on Capitol grounds after authorities found him in possession of several homemade Molotov cocktails. These improvised incendiary devices are highly dangerous and have the potential to cause significant harm and destruction.

It remains unclear what Smith’s intentions were in bringing these dangerous weapons to the Capitol, but the incident has raised serious concerns about security measures and the ongoing threat of political violence.

As the investigation into this troubling incident continues, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and preparedness in safeguarding our democracy and public safety. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

  • Yoon charged with insurrection over martial law attempt

South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol has been charged with insurrection after he attempted to declare martial law in December.

His ill-fated attempt to impose military rule plunged the country into an unprecedented political crisis and he becomes the first sitting president in South Korean history to be charged with a crime.

The indictment comes after a court in Seoul rejected a request to extend Yoon’s detention on Saturday, which meant prosecutors had to make a decision on whether to charge or release him before Monday.

“The punishment of the ringleader of insurrection now begins finally,” Han Min-soo, a spokesman from the main opposition Democratic Party told a press conference.

Yoon’s legal team criticised the indictment and pledged to expose any “illegalities in the investigation”.

“The prosecution has made a grave mistake, reducing itself to being the indictment arm of the CIO, and a tool of political interests,” Yoon’s lawyers said, referring to the Central Investigation Office for high-ranking officials.

In South Korea, insurrection is punishable by life in prison or death. However the latter is unlikely, given that the country has not carried out executions in decades.

Separately, the Constitutional Court has begun deliberations on whether to formally dismiss Yoon as president or reinstate him.

The impeached president has largely refused to co-operate with the criminal investigation over the martial law declaration.

Yoon is set to stand trial along with his former defence minister and senior military commanders, who are accused of helping him plan and carry out the attempt to seize total power.

In an unprecedented televised announcement on 3 December, Yoon said he was invoking martial law to protect the country from “anti-state” forces that sympathised with North Korea.

At the time, the embattled leader was in a deadlock over a budget bill, dogged by corruption scandals and several of his cabinet ministers were under investigation.

The military announced all parliamentary activity was suspended and sought to impose controls on media outlets.

The opposition’s Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung urged people to protest at the National Assembly and asked his fellow lawmakers to immediately vote to repeal the order.

Less than two hours after Yoon’s declaration, 190 lawmakers who gathered – including some from the president’s party – voted unanimously to block it.

Soldiers equipped with rifles were seen entering the parliament building through smashed windows as a dramatic confrontation ensued.

Thousands of civilians gathered in front of the assembly and tried to block the soldiers.

Yoon was was impeached by parliament and suspended from his duties on 14 December.

The affair has triggered South Korea’s worst political crisis in decades and has polarised the country.

Many of his hard-line supporters have rallied around him. On Friday, tens of thousands gathered to protest, demanding he be released and returned to office.

If Yoon is removed from office, a presidential election would be held within 60 days.

The prosecutors’ office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

South Korean opposition leader Yoon has been charged with insurrection after his failed attempt to impose martial law in the country. Yoon, who was seeking to take control of the government by force, has been accused of inciting violence and destabilizing the nation.

The charges against Yoon come after a tense standoff between his supporters and government forces, which resulted in several casualties and widespread chaos in the capital city. The government has vowed to bring Yoon to justice for his actions and restore order to the country.

Many are calling for Yoon to be held accountable for his actions and face the full consequences of his attempted coup. The nation remains on high alert as authorities work to maintain peace and stability in the wake of this shocking turn of events. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Detroit man charged in mistaken identity freeway shooting

DETROIT (WWJ) — A Detroit man is facing more than a dozen charges after allegedly shooting at a woman on the freeway in what Michigan State Police officials say is a case of mistaken identity.

James Edward Murden, 32, was arraigned Sunday on 17 total felony charges, including attempted murder and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.

The shooting happened on Dec. 26 along I-94 near Mt. Elliott, according to MSP.

Authorities say a woman was driving home with her two children in her car the day after Christmas when she was shot.

Investigators used technology to develop Murden as a suspect and later determined that the car the woman was driving was mistaken for another person that the suspect knew, according to MSP.

Officials did not disclose the victim’s condition after the shooting.

Murden has been charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, eight counts of felony firearm and one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a weapon at a vehicle and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.

His bond was set at $300,000 cash or surety. MSP officials did not release any information about his next court date.

MSP officials have not said what led Murden to allegedly open fire on who he thought was a different person in the car.

A Detroit man has been charged in a mistaken identity freeway shooting that left one person injured. The incident took place on the I-94 freeway in Detroit, where the suspect allegedly fired shots at a vehicle that he believed belonged to a rival gang member.

The victim, who was driving a similar vehicle to the intended target, was struck by a bullet and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended by police.

Authorities have charged the man with several offenses, including assault with intent to murder and felony firearm possession. It is believed that the shooting was a case of mistaken identity, as the victim had no connection to any gang activity.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of senseless violence and the importance of accurate identification before taking any drastic actions. The victim in this case was lucky to survive, but not everyone may be so fortunate. Let this be a cautionary tale to always think before acting impulsively and to never resort to violence as a means of conflict resolution.

  • Mum, 42, among eight Britons charged over ‘£9.5m Spanish holiday food poisoning scam’ | World | News

A British mum has been charged along with several others over an alledged scam that saw hotels pay out £9.5million on bogus food poisoning complaints. The scammers allegedly targeted hotels on the island of Majorca by encouraging tourists to make up food poisoning claims as part of a money-making racket. A mother from Essex has been charged with running the suspected along with seven other Britons.

Laura Joyce,42, from Essex was charged along with her brother Marc Cameron.

The siblings have been accused of being the ringleaders of a “profit-motivated organised gang”.

They are believed to have run the racket under the guise of a Spanish company called Elite Project Marketing SL.

Joyce and Cameron now face trial alongside five other Britons they are alleged to have recruited to entice holidaymakers into playing along in scam, along with the UK-based businessman who managed the process.

The suspected scammers have been accused of fraud and membership of a criminal gang.”

Those charged have been named as Ryan Bridges, Simon Robert Flanagan, Tegan Jewel Sumerlee, Susan Amanda Lyle, Nicola Marie Sanderson and Peter Carl Murphy.

A court ruling in Majorca read: “The gang specialised in obtaining the details of British tourists in all-inclusive hotels in Majorca it convinced, through a form they themselves elaborated, to falsely claim they had been ill during their stay in one of those hotels and be able to claim compensation in the UK.”

Police detectives believe the scammers’ activities cost three hotel groups around £9.5 million between 2016 and 2017.

A heavily pregnant Joyce was arrested in September 2017 before making a court appearance in May 2018.

Joyce’s lawyer Gabriel Llado has said his client confessed to handing over contact details of holidaymakers for payment but insisted this was done as part of a market research venture.

He denied that Joyce or any of the individuals she used to gather information from tourists had encouraged them to falsify food poisoning claims using chemist receipts.

    DON’T MISS:

He stated that Joyce had only been involved in this activity for a short period of time and quit because she was not earning enough.

The 42-year-old who was charged under her maiden name Cameron denies her role in the scam.

    Additional reporting by Gerard Couzens.

In a shocking turn of events, a British mother, aged 42, has been charged alongside seven other Britons in connection with a £9.5m holiday food poisoning scam in Spain. The group is accused of filing fraudulent claims for food poisoning during their vacations in order to receive compensation.

Authorities in Spain have been cracking down on this type of scam, which has become increasingly prevalent in recent years. The accused individuals are facing serious charges of fraud and could potentially face significant penalties if found guilty.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of trying to cheat the system for personal gain. It is a sobering reminder that dishonesty and deceit will eventually catch up with you.

As the investigation continues, it is important for tourists to be vigilant and honest when it comes to making claims for compensation. This type of behavior not only harms the reputation of genuine victims of food poisoning but also puts a strain on the resources of the travel industry.

Let this be a cautionary tale for anyone considering taking advantage of the system for financial gain. The consequences are not worth the risk.

  • Rocker Marilyn Manson won’t be charged after long investigation of sexual assault allegations

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors said Friday that they will not file charges against Marilyn Manson after a years-long investigation of allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the allegations are too old under the law and the evidence is not sufficient to charge the 56-year-old shock rocker whose legal name is Brian Warner.

“We have determined that allegations of domestic violence fall outside of the statute of limitations, and we cannot prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt,” Hochman said. “We recognize and applaud the courage and resilience of the women who came forward to make reports and share their experiences, and we thank them for their cooperation and patience with the investigation.”

Nearly four years after the investigation began, then-District Attorney George Gascón said on Oct. 9 that his office was pursuing new leads that added to the “already extensive” file that authorities had amassed.

LA County sheriff’s detectives said early in 2021 that they were investigating Manson for incidents between 2009 and 2011 in West Hollywood, where Manson lived at the time. The probe included a search warrant that was served on his West Hollywood home. The case was initially turned over to prosecutors in September 2021, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office requested more evidence-gathering and the investigation resumed.

The identities of the women police and prosecutors spoke to were not revealed, but “Game of Thrones” actor Esmé Bianco — who sued Manson in a case that has been settled — said she was part of the criminal investigation. Before the decision not to prosecute, she criticized how long the process was taking at a rally for Hochman, who was elected soon after.

“Almost four years ago, I did what victims of rape are supposed to do: I went to the police,” she said on Oct. 10. “I described to them in agonizing detail how the rock musician Brian Warner — better known by his stage name Marilyn Manson — had raped and abused me over the course of our relationship.”

Bianco said she gave investigators “hundreds of pieces of evidence, including photos of my body covered in bites, bruises and knife wounds, emails and text messages, threats to my immigration status.”

In her lawsuit, Bianco alleged sexual, physical and emotional abuse, and said that Manson violated human trafficking law by bringing her to California from England for non-existent roles in music videos and movies.

Manson’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment. He has previously called the allegations “provably false.” A representative for Bianco did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

In 2021 his former fiancée, “Westworld” actor Evan Rachel Wood, named him as her abuser for the first time in an Instagram post.

Wood and Manson’s relationship became public in 2007 when he was 38 and she was 19, and they were briefly engaged in 2010 before breaking up.

“He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years,” Wood said.

Manson replied on Instagram that these were “horrible distortions of reality.” He sued Wood, saying she and another woman fabricated accusations against him and convinced others to do the same. A judge threw out significant sections of the suit, then in November, Manson agreed to drop it and pay Wood’s attorney fees.

The Associated Press does not typically name people who say they’ve been sexually abused, unless they come forward publicly as Bianco and Wood have done.

Other women sued Manson in the months after Wood came forward. Wood’s representative did not immedately return a message Friday.

Manson emerged as a musical star in the mid-1990s, known as much for courting public controversy as for hit songs like “The Beautiful People” and hit album’s like 1996’s “Antichrist Superstar” and 1998’s “Mechanical Animals.”

Rock icon Marilyn Manson will not be facing charges after a lengthy investigation into sexual assault allegations made against him. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has stated that there is insufficient evidence to move forward with criminal charges against Manson.

The controversial musician, known for his shock rock persona and provocative lyrics, has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault, abuse, and manipulation. However, Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, has consistently denied these allegations and maintained his innocence.

The decision not to press charges comes as a relief to Manson and his supporters, who have stood by him throughout the investigation. The news also raises questions about the credibility of the accusers and the impact of cancel culture on high-profile figures.

While Manson may have avoided legal consequences in this case, the allegations against him have undoubtedly tarnished his reputation and career. It remains to be seen how he will move forward in the wake of these accusations and whether he will be able to regain the trust of his fans and the public.

  • Marilyn Manson won’t be charged in rape, domestic violence cases

Marilyn Manson will not face criminal charges in a series of sexual assault and domestic violence allegations, Los Angeles County prosecutors said Friday.

The musician, whose real name is Brian Warner, had been under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department since 2021 after several women came forward to accuse him of rape and abuse. His accusers included “Westworld” actress Evan Rachel Wood and “Game of Thrones” actress Esme Bianco.

Dist. Atty. Nathan Hochman said in a statement Friday that the statute of limitations had run out on the domestic violence allegations and that prosecutors did not believe they could prove the rape charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

“We recognize and applaud the courage and resilience of the women who came forward to make reports and share their experiences, and we thank them for their cooperation and patience with the investigation,” Hochman said in a statement. “While we are unable to bring charges in this matter, we recognize that the strong advocacy of the women involved has helped bring greater awareness to the challenges faced by survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.”

The district attorney’s office did not immediately respond to a request for further details on the decision. Warner’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.

Allegations against Warner first surfaced in 2021 after Bianco sued Manson, alleging sexual assault, sexual battery and human trafficking. The two settled Bianco’s lawsuit in 2023. The same year, Manson settled a suit with an anonymous Jane Doe that also alleged rape.

Wood, who was in a romantic relationship with Warner for years, has levied perhaps the most detailed allegations against Warner, claiming the singer first assaulted her during a simulated sex scene on a music video shoot in 2007 and then proceeded to “groom” her for years.

A former assistant, Ashley Waters, also sued Manson, alleging harassment and assault.

L.A. County Sheriff’s Department investigators raided Manson’s mansion in 2021 and presented a case to the district attorney’s office in 2022. The victims grew frustrated as years went by without a filing decision, and Bianco and Hochman held a press conference lambasting former Dist. Atty. George Gascón’s handling of the case last year.

“Almost four years ago, I did what victims of rape are ‘supposed’ to do — I went to the police,” Bianco said in a statement issued by Hochman’s campaign last year. “Despite a thorough investigation and hundreds of pieces of evidence being submitted to the District Attorney’s office, I am still waiting for justice. In the meantime, I have received death threats, while my abuser continues to perform publicly.”

Gascón said last October that “new evidence” had come forward in the case but did not detail what it was.

Hochman did not immediately respond to a question about the past campaign event.

Recently, it has been reported that Marilyn Manson will not be charged in the rape and domestic violence cases brought against him. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has declined to pursue charges due to insufficient evidence.

This news comes as a relief to Manson and his fans, who have stood by him throughout the allegations. While the singer has faced backlash and backlash in the wake of the accusations, it seems that he will not be facing legal consequences at this time.

However, it is important to remember that this decision does not necessarily mean that Manson is innocent. It simply means that there is not enough evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

As always, it is crucial to support and believe survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. It is important to continue to hold abusers accountable for their actions and to create a safe and supportive environment for survivors to come forward.

Let us continue to stand with survivors and work towards a world where all forms of abuse and violence are taken seriously and addressed appropriately.

  • Marilyn Manson will not be charged in LA with sex abuse: DA

Goth rocker Marilyn Manson is not being charged over the numerous accusations of sexual assault and domestic violence, prosecutors announced Friday.

The decision not to charge “the Fight Song” singer — real name Brian Warner — followed “a comprehensive four-year investigation” by “experienced prosecutors” and detectives, new Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said.

“We have determined that allegations of domestic violence fall outside of the statute of limitations, and we cannot prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt,” he said.

The 56-year-old singer had been accused of rape, sexual assault and torture by at least a dozen women, including his former fiancee, actor Evan Rachel Wood.

“We recognize and applaud the courage and resilience of the women who came forward to make reports and share their experiences, and we thank them for their cooperation and patience with the investigation,” Hochman said.

“While we are unable to bring charges in this matter, we recognize that the strong advocacy of the women involved has helped bring greater awareness to the challenges faced by survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault,” he said.

“Despite the decision necessitated by the facts and evidence in this matter, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office remains fully committed to seeking justice for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault whenever legally possible,” Hochman said.

“We encourage anyone experiencing abuse to seek support and make a report to law enforcement as quickly as possible.”

Manson does not appear to have immediately addressed the decision.

In a recent update, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced that Marilyn Manson will not be charged with sex abuse allegations in LA. The decision comes after thorough investigation and evaluation of the evidence provided.

This news comes as a relief to Manson and his fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the outcome of the investigation. Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, has denied all allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct made against him.

While Manson may have dodged charges in LA, it is important to remember that he still faces legal battles in other jurisdictions. The singer has been accused of sexual assault and abuse by multiple women, and these allegations are being taken seriously by law enforcement agencies.

As the legal proceedings continue, Manson’s reputation and career hang in the balance. It remains to be seen how this will impact his future in the music industry and beyond.
