Patriots QB Drake Maye suffers head injury vs. Chargers

FOXBOROUGH – That’s not the way the Patriots wanted to start this game.

Drake Maye suffered a head injury three snaps into Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers and left for the locker room. The team ruled him questionable to return.

The injury happened when the Patriots quarterback dropped back to pass on third-and-4. On the play, Demontrey Jacobs was beat off the edge. That forced Maye to roll right and attempt to run and gain the first down. After stepping out of bounds, for a 2-yard loss, Maye was hit in the helmet by Chargers cornerback Cam Hart at 10:25 of the first quarter.

The rookie quarterback hit the turf hard and was down for a moment. When he stood up, the Gillette Stadium crowd cheered. Maye made his way back to the Patriots bench where he sat next to offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. However, Maye was soon sent to the blue medical tent. After several minutes, Maye left for the locker room.

This marks the second time this season that Maye’s suffered a head injury. The same thing happened in Week 8 against the New York Jets. Jacoby Brissett took over for the rookie and led the Patriots to a comeback win against their division rival.

Maye’s scrambling ability has been a hot topic. Van Pelt previously said the Patriots didn’t want to call designed run plays for the rookie to protect him. That changed last week in Buffalo.

In a tough blow for the New England Patriots, rookie quarterback Drake Maye suffered a head injury during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Maye was hit hard by a Chargers defender in the second quarter and was immediately taken to the locker room for evaluation.

The Patriots have not provided any further updates on Maye’s condition, but head coach Bill Belichick expressed concern for the young quarterback after the game. “Our thoughts are with Drake right now,” Belichick said. “We hope it’s nothing serious and he can make a quick recovery.”

Maye, who was drafted in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft, had been showing promise as the Patriots’ starting quarterback. His absence will be felt as the team looks to rebound from their loss to the Chargers and continue their push for the playoffs.

Fans and teammates alike are sending their thoughts and prayers to Maye as he recovers from this injury. Stay tuned for updates on his condition as more information becomes available.

Antonio Gibson Fantasy Week 17: Projections vs. Chargers, Points and Stats, Start or Sit

In Week 17, Antonio Gibson and the Washington Football Team will be facing off against the Los Angeles Chargers. Gibson has been a consistent fantasy producer this season, but how will he fare in this matchup?

Projections:
According to fantasy experts, Antonio Gibson is projected to have a solid performance against the Chargers. He is expected to have around 15-20 carries and potentially catch a few passes out of the backfield. With his ability to break tackles and find the end zone, Gibson has a good chance to put up some solid fantasy points.

Points and Stats:
In his previous games, Gibson has shown his ability to rack up yards and touchdowns. He has rushed for over 800 yards and scored 9 touchdowns so far this season. Additionally, he has also been involved in the passing game, making him a versatile threat for fantasy owners.

Start or Sit:
Given Gibson’s consistent production and the favorable matchup against the Chargers, fantasy owners should feel confident starting him in Week 17. He has the potential to put up big numbers and help lead your team to victory. Make sure to keep an eye on any injury updates leading up to the game, but as long as he is healthy, Gibson should be in your starting lineup.

Chargers’ Will Dissly: Active versus New England

Dissly (shoulder) is listed as active for Saturday’s game against the Patriots, Eric Smith of the Chargers‘ official site reports.

Dissly, who has missed the Chargers’ last two contests, was listed as limited on Tuesday and Wednesday’s practice reports before upgrading to full participation Thursday and then being deemed questionable for Saturday’s contest. In his return to action, Dissly will have an opportunity to reclaim his lead role in a Los Angeles tight end corps that also includes Stone Smartt and Tucker Fisk. In 13 games thus far, Dissly has logged a 43/418/1 receiving line on 55 targets, a pace that makes him a fantasy lineup consideration in deeper formats.

    More News

The Chargers’ Will Dissly is set to be active for the matchup against the New England Patriots. This is great news for the Chargers as Dissly has been a key player for the team this season, making crucial plays and contributing to the team’s success.

With Dissly in the lineup, the Chargers will have a strong weapon on offense and a reliable target for quarterback Justin Herbert. Dissly’s ability to make big plays and find the end zone will be crucial in their game against the Patriots, who have a strong defense.

Fans can expect to see Dissly make an impact in the game and help lead the Chargers to victory. Stay tuned for an exciting matchup as Dissly takes the field against New England. #Chargers #WillDissly #NewEngland #NFL

Best Patriots vs. Chargers prop bets for NFL Week 17

The New England Patriots host the Los Angeles Chargers for the second consecutive season in Week 17, entering this Saturday’s contest as 5.5-point underdogs according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Here are some prop bets that may pique your interest for Sunday.

Best Patriots vs. Chargers prop bets for NFL Week 17

Justin Herbert, Under 233.5 Passing Yards (-113): Since a pair of tough outings against the Rams and Dolphins, New England’s pass defense has stiffened a bit. In the three games since, opponents have been held under this mark in each game.

Against a Los Angeles passing attack that ranks 24th in yards, I like New England’s defense here.

Antonio Gibson, Over 29.5 Rushing Yards (-113): With Rhamondre Stevenson fumbling for the seventh time this year last week, expect Antonio Gibson to get the rock on Saturday. He averages 9.8 yards per carry on the season.

Against a Los Angeles defense that ranks 27th in yards per attempt, Gibson should cross this total easily if he sees an uptick in usage.

Drake Maye, Over 28.5 Rushing Yards (-113): With 30 yards rushing last week, including a 13-yarder, Maye continues to be a rushing threat. Quarterbacks have been able to scramble against this Chargers defense.

Longshot of the Week: Bourne Ultimatum

Each week, I’ll pick a bet or two with long odds that I like in this section.

Kendrick Bourne, Anytime TD (+550): Kendrick Bourne had an opportunity for a score last week, but pressure disrupted the play. Look for the Patriots to get him the ball against a defense that gives up touchdowns to wide receivers.

With NFL Week 17 upon us, the highly-anticipated matchup between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers is sure to draw plenty of attention. As you prepare to watch the game, why not add some excitement by placing a few prop bets? Here are some of the best prop bets to consider for the Patriots vs. Chargers showdown:

    1. Total Passing Yards – Will Justin Herbert or Mac Jones throw for more passing yards in the game?
    2. Total Touchdowns – Will there be over or under 4.5 total touchdowns scored in the game?
    3. First Touchdown Scorer – Which player will score the first touchdown of the game?
    4. Total Interceptions – Will there be over or under 2.5 total interceptions thrown in the game?
    5. Total Sacks – Will the Patriots or Chargers defense record more sacks in the game?
    6. Total Field Goals – Will there be over or under 3.5 total field goals made in the game?
    7. Total Rushing Yards – Will Austin Ekeler or Damien Harris rush for more yards in the game?

These are just a few of the many prop bets you can place on the Patriots vs. Chargers game. So grab your friends, place your bets, and get ready for an exciting Week 17 matchup!

  • Jerod Mayo Teases Potential Demotion For Patriots Starter Vs. Chargers

Jerod Mayo Teases Potential Demotion For Patriots Starter Vs. Chargers

The Patriots had three giveaways on Sunday in New England’s loss to the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.

Rhamondre Stevenson had a costly fumble in the third quarter that the Bills were able to turn into seven points nine plays later. Despite the turnover, Stevenson still led the Patriots with 60 rushing yards on 12 carries and a touchdown against Buffalo.

The miscue was the seventh fumble of the season for Stevenson. That equals the number of fumbles he’s had in his previous three NFL seasons combined. After Stevenson fumbled in each of the first four games of the season, Antonio Gibson got the start at running back for New England in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins.

Jerod Mayo hinted toward a possible change in the backfield when the Patriots host the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

“Look, I think everyone understands how important the football is,” Mayo told reporters on Monday, per team-provided transcript. “We’re a team that we just can’t turn the ball over. I don’t think any team can really afford to turn the ball over.

    Story continues below advertisement

“I thought (Antonio Gibson), when he got in there, did a great job. Look, we had to go back and talk about it as a staff, but it’s definitely still a possibility. Look, I will say this: we all in this building stand behind Rhamondre and the things that he does. He does a lot of good things. Unfortunately, right now, the ball’s just on the ground too much.”

Gibson rushed for 28 yards on 10 carries against the Bills on Sunday. He also fumbled, but the Patriots recovered the ball and kept possession. Gibson has fumbled twice on 96 carries this season, but New England retained possession both times. He has 434 rushing yards with one touchdown and an additional 186 receiving yards on 19 catches.

Jerod Mayo, the New England Patriots’ inside linebackers coach, hinted at a possible demotion for a current starter ahead of their upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

In a recent press conference, Mayo suggested that changes could be on the horizon for the Patriots’ defense, specifically at the linebacker position. While he did not name any specific player, his comments have sparked speculation among fans and analysts.

The Patriots have struggled defensively this season, particularly against the run, and Mayo’s remarks indicate that he is considering shaking up the lineup in an effort to improve the unit’s performance.

It remains to be seen which player could be in danger of losing their starting role, but Mayo’s comments have certainly added an extra layer of intrigue to the Patriots’ upcoming matchup against the Chargers. Stay tuned for any further developments on this potential demotion.

Rhamondre Stevenson Over 42.5 Rushing Yards (-113)

    By Grant Neiffer

Even with Antonio Gibson back, Stevenson should get a large share of New England’s rushing offense.

The matchup here isn’t bad with the Chargers being a middle-of-the-pack defense vs. the rush this season and one of the better pass defenses in the league. I expect the Patriots to rely heavily on Stevenson as they look to keep the pressure off Drake Maye. Also, this should be a spot where the Patriots aren’t forced to move the ball through the air as the spread is just four points.

Kendrick Bourne Over 21.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

    By Matt Trebby

Kendrick Bourne has been Drake Maye’s most consistent target among Patriots wide receivers this season. In his last six games, Bourne has 21 receptions on 24 targets.

In Week 15, Bourne only ran 14 routes, but he bounced back with 32 last week against the Bills, which were his second most of the season. Here, we’re betting on another Patriots trailing game script and for Maye to keep looking Bourne’s way.

Bourne had gone over this total in five straight games before only getting 18 receiving yards last week. This week, Sean Koerner is projecting Bourne for 28.5 receiving yards, while Chris Raybon has him pegged for 24.6. I’d play this over up to 23.5.

    5. Jefferson steps up in secondary

There’s been a bit of a revolving door in the Bolts secondary this season.

And it’s safe to say that Tony Jefferson has been a savior of sorts on the back end.

Jefferson was signed as a tryout free agent in June and joined the team after impressing in mandatory minicamp.

While the 32-year-old began the season on the practice squad, he’s been called upon of late with Elijah Molden battling a knee injury. Jefferson played all 64 defensive snaps against the Broncos.

“I felt ready for the occasion and the game and just trying to build off that,” Jefferson said. “It’s been a while since I have played that many snaps, but it was fun though. It’s a good sore.”

Jefferson was out of football last season as he was a scouting intern with the Ravens, a team he previously played for.

That stint included an overlap with Minter, who raved about the veteran’s readiness and work ethic despite not playing much earlier in the season.

“You have injuries, you have guys go in and out, he’s the guy that on the drop of a hat, could go in there and play multiple positions,” Minter said. “He can go in there and execute the defense, get guys lined up, brings the confidence and a little bit of an edge when he’s out there.”

Jefferson has seen more playing time of late since Alohi Gilman went on Injured Reserve.

Even as the Bolts hope they can get to full strength for a potential playoff run, they know they can count on Jefferson in a pinch if needed.

“It’s really the first time in my career where I haven’t played, like being on the team and not playing,” said Jefferson, a 10-year veteran. “I just wanted to make sure I was ready for the opportunity when it came whether that was just doing the right stuff for practice and stuff like that, keeping my body right.

“It’s really just staying ready and being prepared, paying attention to meetings during those times where I wasn’t playing,” Jefferson added. “Just being ready to roll.”

The highly anticipated matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the New England Patriots in Week 17 is sure to be a thrilling game with playoff implications on the line. Both teams are fighting for a spot in the postseason, making this game a must-win for both squads.

The Chargers, led by star quarterback Justin Herbert, have been playing solid football all season and have a chance to make a playoff push with a win against the Patriots. Their offense is explosive, with playmakers like Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler, and their defense has shown flashes of dominance throughout the season.

On the other side, the Patriots are led by veteran quarterback Cam Newton, who has been playing well in recent weeks. Their defense, anchored by stars like Stephon Gilmore and Devin McCourty, is one of the best in the league and will be a tough test for Herbert and the Chargers offense.

This game is crucial for both teams, as a win could secure a playoff spot for either squad. It will be a hard-fought battle between two talented teams looking to finish the regular season strong and secure a spot in the postseason.

Be sure to tune in to this exciting matchup between the Chargers and Patriots in Week 17, as it is sure to be a game filled with drama, intensity, and playoff implications.
