  • Breezy in Maryland with bitter wind chill

Breezy in Maryland with bitter wind chill

WELCOME BACK. HAPPY MONDAY. IT IS, OF COURSE, COLD OUT THERE THIS MORNING. TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE 20S AND MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TELL. THE CAMERA IS A LITTLE SHAKY, BUT WE’RE EXPECTING A BREEZY DAY, SO YOU COMBINE THE BREEZY WINDS PLUS THE COLD. YOU GET THE WORD BLUSTERY. AND THAT’S KIND OF HOW WE’RE GOING TO DESCRIBE TODAY. TOMORROW WIND WILL NOT BE AN ISSUE, BUT JUST ENOUGH WIND, MAYBE 5 TO 7MPH THAT IT WILL MAKE IT FEEL MUCH COLDER AGAIN. JUST A REMINDER, IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH FOR THAT WIND TO DROP. OUR WIND CHILL VALUES INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS. WITH THE TEMPERATURES THAT WE WILL BE DEALING WITH. SO DANGEROUS COLD ON THE TABLE TODAY, TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY. MOSTLY CLOUDY WEATHER, QUIET WEATHER THROUGHOUT THE WEEK SO NO MAJOR STORM SYSTEMS TO DIRECTLY IMPACT OUR AREA AND THEN BRIEF WARM UP EXPECTED AS WE HEAD INTO THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND. SO THERE IS SOME GOOD NEWS. WE DO KIND OF THAW OUT A LITTLE BIT OVER THE WEEKEND, BUT WE HAVE TO GET THROUGH THIS WEEK FIRST. COLD WEATHER ADVISORY WILL GO IN EFFECT FROM 7:00 THIS EVENING TILL 10 A.M. ON TUESDAY, AND THAT’S WHERE OUR TEMPERATURES WILL BE THE COLDEST OR THE TIME FRAME THAT YOU SHOULD BE THINKING THAT IT WILL BE THE MOST DANGEROUS TO BE OUTSIDE. OUR SATELLITE AND RADAR DOES NOT HAVE MUCH TO SHOW YOU. THERE MIGHT BE A FEW CLOUDS HERE AND THERE. OTHERWISE THE COLD AIR LINGERS AND IT GETS EVEN WORSE TONIGHT INTO TOMORROW MORNING WHERE YOU’RE SEEING WIND CHILL VALUES EASILY FIVE, ALMOST TEN BELOW ZERO FOR MANY LOCATIONS STARTING TOMORROW MORNING, POSSIBLY AGAIN ON TUESDAY. AND WE DON’T REALLY GET OUT OF THOSE NUMBERS UNTIL THURSDAY MORNING WHERE WE COULD HAVE SINGLE DIGIT WIND CHILLS. BUT AGAIN, AT LEAST WE’RE STAYING ABOVE THAT ZERO MARK. NOW I DO WANT TO GIVE IT GIVE US SOME PERSPECTIVE HERE. OF COURSE. WELL, THESE ARE CURRENT. FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES ACROSS PARTS OF THE UNITED STATES AND UP TOWARDS CANADA. ZERO IN BURLINGTON. BUT LOOK AT THIS. IN THE MIDWEST, IT FEELS 30 BELOW ZERO RIGHT NOW IN MINNEAPOLIS. AND WE ARE NOT EXPECTING IT TO GET THAT LOW. BUT JUST PERSPECTIVE, RIGHT. YOU KNOW, IT COULD ALWAYS BE MUCH WORSE. WE’RE NOT EXPECTING IT TO GET THAT COLD, BUT CERTAINLY EVERYONE ACROSS THE EASTERN HALF OF THE UNITED STATES GOING TO GET IN ON SOME OF THIS COLD AIR, AS YOU SEE HERE, COULD FEEL LIKE ZERO BY WEDNESDAY MORNING. AND THEN WE PUSH THE CLOCK AHEAD TO YOUR THURSDAY. AND IT COULD FEEL AGAIN, LIKE THE SINGLE DIGITS. SO MAKE SURE YOU’RE PREPARED TO BE OUTDOORS WITH SEVERAL LAYERS, GLOVES, HAT, DOUBLE THE SOCKS. HOPEFULLY YOU’VE GOT THOSE WATERPROOF BOOTS AS YOU TREAD IN THE SNOW. THIS MORNING. OUR TEMPERATURES STAY BELOW FREEZING UNTIL FRIDAY AFTERNOON. OF COURSE, THAT COULD BE FOR A BRIEF MOMENT, BUT AT LE

Breezy in Maryland with bitter wind chill

Meteorologist Alena Lee explains how Monday will be breezy in Maryland with a bitter wind chill making it feel colder than the temperatures in the 20s.

Meteorologist Alena Lee explains how Monday will be breezy in Maryland with a bitter wind chill making it feel colder than the temperatures in the 20s.

The weather in Maryland has taken a turn for the chilly, with a bitter wind chill making it feel even colder. As the winds pick up, the air feels brisk and biting, sending shivers down the spines of anyone caught outside. Despite the sunny skies and clear visibility, the gusts of wind make it difficult to fully enjoy the mild temperatures.

It’s a day for bundling up in layers, with scarves, gloves, and hats becoming essential accessories to combat the cold. The breeze carries with it a hint of winter, a reminder that fall is quickly fading and the frosty days of winter are fast approaching.

Despite the brisk conditions, there’s a certain beauty in the crisp air and clear skies. The rustling of leaves and the sound of wind chimes create a serene soundtrack to the day, adding to the peaceful atmosphere. So, while the wind chill may be bitter, there’s still a sense of tranquility in the air.

So, if you find yourself in Maryland today, be sure to dress warmly and embrace the breezy conditions. Enjoy the crisp air and the beauty of the changing seasons, even if it means braving the chilly winds. Stay cozy, stay bundled up, and savor the last of fall before winter truly takes hold.

  • NWS issues extreme cold warning for Atlanta, sets Monday wind chill at zero

Low temperatures below 20 degrees and winds gusting up to 20 mph will make temperatures feel like they are near or below zero, the National Weather Service said.

“Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 3 below expected,” NWS said.

A winter storm watch will also be in effect in metro Atlanta and a large swath of Georgia from Tuesday to Wednesday morning when snowfall could be moderate to heavy. NWS estimates snow accumulations could be between 1 and 3 inches, with some of the heavier snowfall expected in Middle Georgia.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” NWS said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.”

Delta Air Lines warned travel could be affected by the winter weather and issued a waiver for those with flights booked to, from or through Atlanta for Monday or Tuesday, to allow more flexibility to change travel plans to avoid the storm.

Gov. Brian Kemp said Saturday the state is monitoring and preparing for the incoming winter weather front.

“I urge all Georgians to take precautions now and ensure you and your family can remain safe in the coming days, especially if icy conditions prevent use of roads,” he said in a social media post.

NWS cautioned the freezing temperatures could cause water pipes to freeze or rupture, urging residents in affected areas to wrap or drain them. Letting water drip slowly from faucets can also prevent pipes from freezing.

The agency also recommended people stay indoors or dress in layers, including a hat, face mask and gloves if they must go outside.

Other parts of the Southeast including Alabama, South Carolina and Florida are also under a cold weather advisory.

A freeze warning will be in effect in southeast Georgia and North Florida from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday morning, where temperatures will be as low as 26 degrees.

NWS said the cold wind chills could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken.

“Appropriate action should be taken to ensure tender vegetation and outdoor pets have adequate protection from the cold temperatures,” NWS said. “Young children, the elderly and the homeless are especially vulnerable to the cold.”

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an extreme cold warning for Atlanta, with Monday’s wind chill set to drop to zero degrees. Residents are advised to take precautions and stay indoors if possible to avoid the dangerous cold temperatures. Make sure to bundle up and limit time outside to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.
